United States Postal Service in other cities:
This place never answers the phone, they’re so understaffed that the lone person at the phone desk is answering phones AND working with customers at the same time, customers who come in looking for packages just get turned away without a drop off notice … the worst. Even as far as government facilities are concerned.
I have to say, Teri, is the most curt employee there. She is unapologetic and lacks sympathy and has a negative spirit. Over time, I have seen her interact with customers and feel she needs to either retire or find another profession where she doesn’t need to interact with other humans. Here is what happened to me today, I made custom Diwali cards to send to family for which I went last week to get it weighed and to confirm postage (due to the fact it was a square envelope, which I know isn’t standard). Once I did that, I went to drop them of at 1pm today and spoke to a nice man who told me I was incorrectly instructed last week. Which mind you he consulted with Teri and then confirms what i NEED to do. And in fact, what he is saying will work, so go buy new envelopes, which would mean I would need to relabel 20 envelopes. Fine! So As per his instructions, I purchased enough stamps to cover the number of cards I had. I rushed outta there to buy new envelopes and reprint the addresses on them, and rush back to make it before they close. And low and behold as luck would have it, I got TERI, not the other man. She didn’t agree with his judgement and felt what I had REDONE won’t work. I explained the whole situation rom the beginning and she could care less. She goes on to say, we’ll take it, and if its not appropriate each card gets delivered to my family as “postage due”. HOW?!? I listened to you guys and now you are telling me my family has to pay to receive this card. How does each employee get it wrong. There should be one way to do things. Not on a whim and certainly not arbitrarily. No thank you. This is not a job people volunteer for. This is a PAID job. Do your job and get it together to provide the service you were hired to do.In the future, Needless to say, I will find other means to send our mail
Went to drop off two packages at this location. There were three workers at the front but only one was helping customers and there was a long line forming. I notice people dropping off packages on a ledge at the end of the front counter (where the workers were working). I was two people away from being helped but just wanted to ask if I could place my packages there instead of waiting. I said, “excuse, sorry to bother you but can I place my package over there if it has a label” to one of the workers not assisting people. She did not respond. I walked up a little close (still 6ft away) and spoke a little louder. The women behind the counter (brown hair in the form of a mullet) put up her next window please sign up. She did not verbally respond to me...the one worker assisting people spoke. I do not understand why the other two ladies behind the counter cannot respond to a simple questions or respond at all? So rude!!
Horrible postal carriers/operation/customer service. Was expecting a priority mail package so had been looking out windows all day. Finally the truck came at 5:30pm and I was ready to open the door but it didnt even stop and just left! 30 seconds later I received a tracking update Customer requested Exception and I have to pick up at the post office. huh? I guess the carrier was in a hurry to go home for dinner? I went to the Post Office right away just when they were about to close (6pm), the lady at the counter was at least very nice and told me to call the supervisor next morning. The next morning (5/16/2019) I decided to go in person. The morning Supervisor (didnt catch her name, an African American lady) came out, rude, and acted like I was inconveniencing her. I then understood why this post office has had so many problems and bad reputation - if the management is of this quality, why would I expect the workers to perform? Also, the mails in my neighborhood are constantly being delivered to the wrong addresses. But I have no confidence it will get better, based on my personal experience with this location.
Ive used dozens of USPS locations because I have a small business and mail packages almost every day, but the 1515 S Grove Ave in Barrington is the worst performing post office Ive ever visited. The one woman at the counter is the rudest, they dont answer their phones, they lie, yes, they bold face lie, the manager does nothing to increase performance, delivery is late. When youre dependent on your local logistics to make a living, it makes you want to move especially since they do little to want to improve. They almost taunt you with bad performance and their indifference (maybe defiance) to want to do better. Welcome to third world service right here in Barrington-such an anachronistic misfit.
The one rep/cashier on duty was unfriendly and curt, expecting customers to know everything and anything on their own, giving them attitude when that was not the case. She also rushed through all the options I am supposed to check on my side (address, shipping speed, etc.) without letting me get a word in edgewise.I witnessed another customer ask to speak to a manager. This manager was supposedly paged, but after no one showed up for 20 minutes, the customer just left. The cashier made no reference to the customer or attempt to stop him. This was my first and last visit here.
Called many times to find out tracking information regarding my package. Talked to Vincent the supervisor of shipping and he basically couldnt care less and ended up hanging up on my before finishing our conversation. Its sad to think Amazon can deliver my packages correctly but the USPS cant.
Part 1 (5 stars)As post offices go, this one is great. I’ve had a couple of situations in the past like finding lost packages and the staff here has been very helpful. Overall the staff is friendly. Today Andre was a great help to me with tracking down a package handed off from UPS to USPS but not showing up in online tracking.Part 2 (1 star) Updated review. Everything above is true and they were helpful with the package situation. But now for the last 6 months I’ve had multiple people tell me they sent get well cards after a surgery, that I never received. I called the post office and explained. They said they’d talk to my carrier but of course cards don’t have tracking numbers so not much they could do. These cards btw never got returned to sender. Would have been nice to have received these cards when I was sick. Now my birthday has rolled around and 3 family members sent cards which didn’t arrive after about 2 weeks. One had a check inside. Where is my personal mail? I’m getting other mail as best as I can tell. Is the carrier stealing mail that looks like letters and correspondence? Is there anything that the Post Office can do?!Part 3. More cards reported sent to my various family members different parts of the country, NONE have had them returned to sender yet have not arrived. I’m getting other mail. Not personal correspondence. I wonder if anyone from USPS reads these reviews?
Perhaps Ive just been lucky with the times Ive visited, but Ive never experienced major queues or anything but polite service. Sometimes a little lacking in energy, but vastly better than many urban post offices. Also, today I had cause to call this location directly to see if they could determine the location of a package stuck in their system (as it eventually turned out, thanks to an error by me). The employee who took my call patiently worked through the problem, searched for and found the package and sent it back on his way, unfailingly politely and with no hint of suggestion that it was my fault, which it was. There are many USPS locations that I have cause to complain about, but this isnt one of them.
I have called multiple times regarding a redelivery notice for a tracking number with a name on it that doesnt even live at my address. The notice says to call this post office specifically. I have now called 6 times and it picks up and immediately hangs up. Great customer service
I had a doctors appointment nearby, otherwise I never would have gone to this location. I had a postage paid box to drop off and I was dismayed that they had no self-service station. Nearly the entire post office is taken up by PO boxes, other than a tiny little area with the counter. The place was crowded and I had to wait to get the attention of the clerk to hand her my box. I wasnt about to wait in line for 20 minutes with a package that was already labeled and ready to go!I realize this isnt the main post office, but this place is so bare bones, it looks like it is right out of Podunk, USA, circa late 1970s! A little shocking for an affluent village like Barrington!
This is by far the worst postal service I have ever had my entire life. Mail comes at 5pm never get all my mail either. They have lost packages numerous times and seem not to care either. I hope something can be done about this horrible service that is being provided here in Barrington. It is truly ridiculous that I can’t even receive a package they scan and show that they have it but have no idea what happened to it. This is now the 10th time and I’m sick and tired of it.
Would give a rating of zero stars, if I could, if it werent for the patient clerks at the counter. My mailbox was annihilated by the snow plows, this winter season, requiring me to pick up my mail at the post office. I was told by a manager, my mail would be held indefinitely, until the mailbox was repaired. Apparently, some employees deemed my mail unimportant enough to simply be THROWN AWAY as I was informed, by a different shift manager. Now Im being notified by collection agencies for bills not being paid. Nice job, guys. Thanks.
I have had it with this location. I havent received mail for the past three days after a holiday. If it snows dont expect the mail to be delivered. Mail delivery is after 6:00 PM. Certified letter, better leave your garage door open or they will not come to the door for your signature. You will have to go to the Post Office for pick-up. I constantly get other peoples mail delivered to my address. I expect some of mine is delivered to others.I have even wrote to my Rep Peter Roskam to complain. We will see if anything happens.
Ive lived in Barrington for 16 years and try to pay my bills electronically because we have the worst postal service I have ever seen. They are constantly delivering mail to me that should go to other addresses. I have a weekly errand run to re-deliver mail to my neighbors that incorrectly comes to me. I know that my mail has been delivered to other addresses as well because sometimes people are kind enough to re-deliver to me.Ive had packages lost that Ive had to file claims for and our delivery person sometimes doesnt even show up. Ive filed numerous complaints with the postmaster over the years, but the problems continue.
Mail is frequently delivered to the wrong address or not delivered for days at a time. Whenever we go into the post office we are told that our regular carrier is on vacation and the sub does not know our route. We live in a subdivision with clearly marked street names and numbers, so the excuse makes no sense.
I am very disappointed with this usps store and their services. Usually they dont know the answers to the questions asked about services. Mailing an international package I was given wrong tracking number, that was not trackable for a very important package of documents. Mail often delivered to the wrong mail boxes and we have to sort things out with neighbours trying to find mail addresses to us. Really very unprofessional sore.
I originally had a few issues with the manager but things happen. However, I cannot judge on one poor experience with one individual but rather as a whole. With saying that, for the most part all the office employees are really solid and kind, and my mail men rock! Rick and Matt are some of most thoughtful, caring and hard working individuals I have ever met and they have helped me and my business tremendously.I honestly dont believe that we truly realize the sheer volume of items the Post Office is dealing with on a daily basis. Furthermore, I dont think we thank them enough. So...to all of the hard workers at MY local Post office..Rick, Matt, Lucas, Parish, Andre, Julie..Karen? etc etc.. lol! at 1515 S Grove Ave...THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ALL OF YOUR HARD WORK...I know it can be extremely stressful dealing with all of us ;) So....Have a VERY VERY Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and a VERY Happy and VERY Healthy New year!! Cheers! -Brandon Harris (GrillGiant)
Service really sucks. The passport application process should be simple. They make it difficult and theyre really condescending when you try and ask questions. We had ask the head guy to stop talking so we could get a word in. Not sure why post offices still exist. Avoid at all costs !!!
My first visit was good and man with long hair helped me with passport spplication, he had a very good knowledge and experience.Todays visit was tertible - the guy whose name is Samuel if it is his nametag is correct. Started arguing with me if I can apply for minor passport who was born abroad. He said that I can not even if I am U.S. citizen and my child too, He acted disrespectfull and like the one who grants passports for all citizens, what the heck - I hate people who doesnt know the rules and act like they know everything. Pissed me off.

2022-05-06The woman at the desk named Teri was extremely rude. I had arrived 15 minutes before my appointment and had to wait about 20 minutes as the people ahead of me finished up (not her fault that they only have 1 employee). When I got to the front, she didnt say a single word to me. I explained that I was applying for a passport. The first thing out of her mouth was you need an appointment, which I explained that I had. At the end of the transaction, she says that she still needs my old passport. I explain that I was under 16 when I had gotten my old passport and that was 15 years ago. I have no clue where my passport would be as it had been expired for 10 years at this point. She then rudely told me that I was just creating extra paperwork for her now as I had to fill out a lost passport form. According to everything I have read on the US gov website, it didnt appear that I would be needing that passport as it was issued over 15 years ago and I was under 16 when I got it.The woman at the desk then had another interaction with the gentleman behind me as I was filling out the new form for a lost passport. He said he wanted to buy stamps. She said I dont have flags. He said he didnt know what that meant. She then repeated herself. The man said Im sorry, I dont know what a flag is. (Which is a perfectly understandable statement as I also had no clue what she would be referring to.) She then practically screamed A FLAG. Like the US FLAG!? All I have is coffee!I mean, the poor guy just wanted some stamps and is getting yelled at. Ridiculous.

2022-05-24I will never ever use the post office for shipping. They lost an important package I sent to my son which was showing “return to sender” on tracking. But it never came back. I called my local post office and the destination post office. They were trying to help over a period of time. Unfortunately by the time we figured out that it was never going to be returned to sender (me) because it was in a big black hole in Atlanta, it was past the deadline for me to file a claim. Now I am out $60+ in shipping fees and over $100 for the items enclosed in the package. Unbelievable!!!

2022-06-09I drop packages off at the USPS store frequently, and there always seems to be an issue when I have a question. Never get a straight response, and the people working there are always unfriendly. The only reason I ever go is because of the good prices. People at UPS and FedEx are much more friendly and know how to help me. Unbelievable that government employees are always so lazy and unhelpful.

2022-03-01The most unprofessional and unpleasant staff to deal with.. This is not based on one event, or a single person. I have used this post office for over 20 years. For the past 5-7 it’s has been horrific to say the least. They make zero attempt to help you at the sign of any inconvenience to them. They are absolutely lazy.Today, I had yet another issue. I went directly to Lake Zurich PO and had no problem whatsoever. The lady at Lake Zurich also didn’t know what my email was referencing, but she made an attempt to help me and found a solution. Ironically, I told Barrington PO postmaster this would occur. It had nothing to do with “know how”, but everything to do with “trying”.To make it even more ironic, the woman that helped me at Lake Zurich, had worked at Barrington years ago, when they were a good PO. Wayne was awesome as well. He was a great employee and very kind to his customers.Needless to say, I won’t ever use them again.

2022-07-11Wow This Place Sucks Assssss. First of all The person over the counter is absolutely miserable to the point where it makes me miserable every single time I walk in here. Second, my package was delivered two weeks ago and for some reason they still have it and they are not sending it out. I’ve came here twice now with my tracking number and ID and they still downtown send it to my house. All I ordered were just Microfiber towels to clean my car. Don’t come here please. Save yourself and your packages

2022-05-05Had a passport appointment to which the person who was in charge of doing the process never showed up. Asked to speak to supervisor or manager past my scheduled appointment, supervisor never came to the customer window.Talked to 2 different window ladies, both were very rude. Left the post office 30 minutes past my scheduled appointment and never got helped nor talked to the supervisor. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE FOR ANY SERVICE!! I would give negative stars if I could!

2022-03-14Thank God I need passport change every 10years. They are not helpful at all. I really really dislike going into any of postal offices. Their employees are the reason why we dont wanna deal with postal services and they lose business. I choose ups over them at any time.

2021-01-29Our mail carrier from this location is terrible! Constantly delivering mail that doesn’t belong here and despite packages reading “live animals” or “fragile” or “do not freeze” he just drops the box on the porch and drives away never ringing the doorbell. It is 5 degrees outside... packages that say “fragile” shouldn’t be left out there at all without ringing the doorbell.

2022-05-13Would give zero stars if I could. Had an appointment at 10 am for passport service. Got there around 9:45 am and waited until 10:15 am but no one came to help. Asked a lady in front and she said, I dont think shes here yet. Absolutely ridiculous.

2021-12-20I made an appointment at this location to renew my passport. As instructed (per their website) I arrived 15 minutes early for my appointment. I was told to wait in the back for the employee that did the passport applications. I waited 30 minutes before said employee was even notified that I had arrived. During my wait I watched employees THROW packages across the room into bins clearly having no regard for what might be in them. Once I was finally called up for my appointment I was told I needed my birth certificate even though I had an expired passport (which the directions provided by the government say is an acceptable form of identification) needless to say I was rudely turned away. I proceeded to visit a different passport acceptance agency in Schaumburg and they excepted my application without my birth certificate without any issues.DO NOT GO TO THIS POST OFFICE FOR ANY SERVICES
