Says non-smoking but the place smells like cigarettes. The night keeper kept pacing up and back in the hallway at 10:30 talking inconsiderately loud. We had to tell her to be quiet. There was no TV remote in the room had to ask at the front desk. Overall it was not a good stay.
This Travel Lodge in Waukegan/ Gurnee was one of my worst experiences at a hotel. Stains on sheets, stains on mattress over, stains on ALL towels. Unsafe because the side door was unlocked all the time. The hotel was full of smoke smells. The front desk person and guest werent wearing mask. This place dont deserve a half star. Horrible customer service.
Stayed here last minute so we got a decent deal for two rooms. The problem was that we were promised two rooms TOGETHER and one was on the first floor and the other was on the third. it was very inconvenient. i suggest calling here first to see room availability. The rooms were overall very spacious and the beds were nice. they did offer breakfast but i didnt get to eat any. regardless, its a nice perk. whether it is a con for some people or not, the majority of the hotel smelled like cigarette. our rooms were non-smoking and they did NOT smell like smoke so that was very good that they did come through with that. I would recommend staying here, since it is a decent price and you get a good room. staff is a hit or miss, i didnt really care for their service. overall, good experience
It’s a shame I even have to give 1 star to write a review because honestly it deserves negative stars. We booked this hotel to attend ours sons Navy graduation. It was a package with hotel car and flight through Orbitz. Let’s just say this hotel should not be advertised on any travel booking sites. It is the most disgusting and scary place I have ever been to. We booked 2 rooms the place looks abandoned from the outside when you walk in it smells so bad and clearly has not been cleaned for a long time. The first room we went in looked like it had blood on the walls and the sheets had stains on them as if they had not been changed. There stains all over the chair in the room I would not even open our suitcase. I went to our daughter in laws room and it was just as bad. Stains and splatter all over the walls carpets looked like they haven’t seen a vacuum in decades and their kitchenette Or whatever it was looked liked a atomic explosion. I went to front desk asked for a new room and not to my surprise it had the same stained blood splatter like substance on the walls and dead bugs. We all knew we could not stay there. Thankfully we found another hotel and unfortunately lost our money on this train wreck of one. I personally would never stay there not recommend anyone I know too. Very very disgusting!!!
The most disgusting, unpleasant and disappointing stay. The office/lobby area is a hot mess and so disorganized. When we headed towards our room the smell of cigarettes and weed was so strong. In our rooms we could see that the sheets were stained and dirty and deffinitely not changed. The carpet floor was dirty. The walls had some food splatter that was never cleaned and therefore sticky. Let me not even tell you about the bathroom. It was horrible. The toilet seat had men pee stains that were dried out, hence I put the seat down and squatted to pee, the shower had hair on the wall and the towels were old and dirty looking. The stay was the worst. DO NOT RECOMMEND. Simple, housekeeping does not clean, laundry room area is disgusting, and smell is disgusting. Period.
This was the worst hotel my family and I have been to. It was so dirty and disgusting. We came to Chicago for my husbands graduation and this ruined most of the trip. There were ashes and tobacco everywhere in the room, burn marks and the beds had gross stains on it, the bathrooms were not clean either. I would never recommend this hotel to anyone and the lady who worked in the front was so annoyed because we were not comfortable with staying there. She only complained that she was missing out on money if we left and didnt want to really clean the rooms. If I could Id give it zero stars
DO NOT STAY HERE! I REPEAT: DO NOT STAY HERE!The bedding is stained and has hair on it from the last person. There was mold on the walls and wet stains down them. The toilet was stopped up before we even used it. The doors going into the room are broken and dont work correctly, leaving you locked out of your room unless you jiggle it just right. The front desk staff are completely incompetent and cant seem to agree on anything, leaving them arguing in front of you when all you want to do is pay and get to your room. None of them speak English, which makes the entire transaction even more difficult.Their Continental Breakfast was stale and almost non-existent. I was there when they cleaned up, which included taking the food out and not actually cleaning anything. They had a few old, stale chocolate doughnuts, a couple stale mini muffins, stale cereal, and stale bagels. They were out of milk, which I dont think I wouldve eaten anyway based on how old everything was. They were out of juice and coffee. The next morning the owner accused me of not paying in a very aggressive manner, despite me having paid with my credit card and having the receipt in my hand. She then tried to make me pay an additional $10 for having a pet, which was not charged to me and they never mentioned previously. I had disclosed to their 1-800 number that I had a dog when I reserved the room. They put in their notes that I had a dog. When I checked in, I again told them that I had a dog and even had the dog standing there with me. No fee was charged, which is their fault, not mine. The biggest issue was her aggressive, accusing manner in telling me to pay it after accusing me of not paying at all. Then she demanded that I pay it in cash only, which I didnt have on me. I think she was going to pocket the cash and never report it, which Im not okay with. She ended up charging my credit card for $10 despite me not giving the okay or signing for it. I have reported them to Wyndham Corporate. Rather than Corporate deal with it, they forwarded my message to the same lady that I had the problem with.Youd be better off finding anywhere else to stay, rather than stay in this disgusting place.
This is probably the worst experience I have had at a hotel in a long time. They are worse than any walk in motel. The hallway, rooms, microwave and even the lobby reeked loke it hadnt been cleaned in months or uears even. 3 layers of the blankets on BOTH beds were not clean so we were forced to use the sheet that hopefully was more clean. The towels in the bathroom were also dirty with a light yellow tint and orange stains on them. Very bad odor on them as well. I looked into the laundry room they use and it seemed as if the guy bringing the laundry just didnt care. He walked past me with clean towels and they were obviously not cleaned well enough. Also, just on a personal note: I love hooking my laptop up through hdmi so I can watch movies but the tvs here have no hdmi hookup or channel for doing so. I would definitely not come back here and glad we changed hotels after the first day. I would also not recommend this place to anyone else.
Honest to God that was the nastiest place Ive ever been in. The entire place had the funkiest smell. I checked in, went to check our rooms and immediately checked out. This was a family vacation and no way in hell would I stay there on my worst day. Good luck to anyone that does stay.
If I could rate 0 stars or negative I would so without hesitation. From the moment I walked in I the building had a very intense and foul smell. I wouldnt be surprised if it was drugs that other visitors were consuming during their stays there- considering the area its the hotel is in, its very common. Heres how my encounter went (BTW this happened on 2/16/2020):Front desk was very rude. Naresh Patel is manager and owner and he is always very pleasant and understanding, but his wife on the other hand is very rude.I was trying to pay for a night and she kept saying my debit card was declining. I know for a fact that was false because the card that I used to pay always has money for room and board, food, and other expenses. She started raising her voice at me and my boyfriend and I remained calm throughout it all. My boyfriend informed her she did not have to yell at us and especially not at me because I was not rude to her whatsoever, but if she wanted to be rude he could be too. I took over and handled the situation as best as I could because I was not about to have my boyfriend sit here and argue with a lady. I told her that she needed to lower her tone of voice towards me because I was not even raising my voice and I was super calm with her. She tried to play it off and insisted that its the way she talks, which was not true because her voice was calm before she tried to take my payment. I told her I was having a good day so I was not going to sit here and argue with her. I told her i would book online and would come back to her in a minute. She said OK.I booked the room through Expedia, used the same card and payment was taken immediately. The lady got my booking confirmation and called me up to the front desk. And she needed my debit card and ID once more, which I provided without questioning her since I know thats protocol at every hotel. She stated that it wasnt going through again and that she was not getting the money from Expedia. I asked her why would she try to swipe my card again if its already paid for and she completely ignored me. I checked my bank account through my app and it shows Expedia took my money. She then noticed I booked a non-smoking room and we wanted a smoking room and she was mad and said that would be extra. I told her I have no problem paying the difference. She once again raised her voice at me and I told her Expedia did not give me an option for smoking rooms. I told her I better not get charged again because I will be upset and I did not want to be rude towards her. She told me to give it another 10 minutes and she could retry and see if the money goes through. I said that was fine.My boyfriend was upset and we decided to cancel our reservation. While I was waiting, I called Expedia and spoke to an agent and she was able to call the front desk and cancel my reservation and get 100% of my refund back. I went up to the front desk afterwards, calmly, and asked her if everything was cancelled and she said yes you called Expedia to cancel right? along with that she gave me a very dirty look and I ignored it because I just wanted to get out of there. I told her I did because I didnt want the room anymore and I didnt like how she was treating us. I informed her to expect a review on Google and to work on her customer service skills. After walking away from the front desk I hear her talk to the other girl who was there and I knew they were talking about me in their language, so calmly I turned around walked back to the front desk, looked at her and she got quiet. I didnt have to say anything, so I left. My boyfriend and I left and took our business to La Quinta in Gurnee, which I have to say they treated us 1000 times better.
Very bad stay!! Upon walking in to check in, the smell was overwhelming, it was a mixture of old and staleness. In our room, (we had 2 rooms, not even near each other) first room king bed had dirty bedding on the bed. There was hair and pee spots on the sheets that were supposed to be clean. It looked like the sheets were not changed from the last person, bedding was very wrinkled as it was slept in. Went to front desk and they told me I was wrong that the bedding was changed and cleaned. I told them to go and look and the bedding. After 5 minutes, they gave me fresh clean sheets and was told that I had to change them myself. The mattress pad was so nasty. Full of yellow pee stains and not smells so bad! When changing the bedding discovered that it was actually still damp from urine from the last people. The toilet didnt flush, had to take the lid off each and every time to make it flush. And the shower curtain was moldy. I told front desk about the toilet they told me it not a problem and they were not going to fix it. second rom, 2 double beds. Again, the bedding wasnt clean, well in one of the beds. The shower curtain again was moldy and room was just smelly. The little fridge that is in all rooms was so full of ice in the double room it couldnt be used. In the king room there was old pop in it still and a sandwich. The microwave in the king room was so nasty and sticky wouldnt of used it if we had to. The beds were so hard we woke up with sore back. Pillows were nasty as well. Flat and turning yellow and smelled.. I couldnt use them! I usually travel with my own pillow and forgot it this time. The breakfast was only mini muffins and some fruit. I have never stayed in any hotel that was so bad. Do yourself a favor and do NOT stay at this hotel, if you do you will be sorry!
Its really not as bad as the other reviews are making it seem. The rooms were fine, bed was comfortable, staff was friendly. The hotel has an overall musty/cigarette smell (probably due to the smoking rooms/age of the hotel), but if youre looking for a cheap, serviceable hotel, this will do just fine.
First night there, I didnt get any sleep. Owner knew first thing in morning why then woke me when she came in my room grabbing my credit card on table by bed, literally. I slept a little past noon.Thats why. Nasty place, not to mention my curtains wouldnt close. Gangsta wannabes on some kind of uppers higher than a kite just outside by my window deciding to be sneaky peeping Toms but foos kept setting off their own car alarm. Theyd have been in for a real surprise had I have been standing there with my AR! Oh wait. That was Chicago. Good people cannot pack heat but Im sure they were!No bed bugs though so they get a 1 star. 🤓
Been staying here for work for over 8 months. Can put up with cleaning my own room and ignoring the drugs and hookers but this is the last straw. Avoid this place. I will be reporting to the health department so others wont get bitten and have their belongings contaminated.
If I could, I wouldnt give this place even ONE star.Have you ever seen Bates Motel? Because thats what this place reminded me of. It was dirty. It had a really nasty odor. ONE light in our room worked. There were bugs. It was unbelievably out dated. Please, I am begging who ever is reading this, DO NOT STAY HERE.And just to make my stay that much worse..... as my fiancé and I were quietly discussing how we could absolutely not stay there after 10 minutes of being there, we got a knock on our door and one of the staff members offered us an upgrade and asked what was wrong with the room. We said yes. And told her about the lights. She then took back the upgrade and just walked away. We then felt so uncomfortable from not only the bed that I felt dirty just sitting on, but also from them listening in on our conversations minutes after we checked in!!! We left and no one ever called us. We never got our money back. Please dont stay her.
A very pleasant value experience. The staff, day and night, was helpful and responsive. The room was clean and cool (we were there on some very warm days), beds were comfortable, housekeeping faithful yet not intrusive. Breakfast is quite simple, but very adequate to start the day. Appears to be run by a very hard-working, earnest family. I came here after fleeing a very uncomfortable place elsewhere in town. My son and I were able to have a really good visit. I travel on a tight budget, and Travel Lodge in Waukegan was an excellent fit. Ill be looking them up when I come again.
Very poor was charged more then what thw website told me. And when i got to my room it smelled like nasty old cigarettes even though it was non smoking. Bedding reeked of smoke, furniture was falling apart. Half the outlets in the room dont work. The only positive thing was that the bathroom and shower were clean and neat. Not worth nesr what they charge.
The worst hotel ever we stayed there for 6 days and in those 6 days they only clean our room only once and the they never changed our sheets at all. The hotel reeked of cigarettes as soon as you open the doors all over the hotel even when we asked for a nonsmokers room the smell was bad. The service was even worse, the poeple at the reception didnt really speak english that well and had our reservation all mest up when we got there. Over all I will never stay there again and would not recommend this place.
You get what you pay for maybe a little bit less. Cheapest in town and it shows needs a remodel badly. Staff are firm but friendly enough not to offend. Ice machine has been broken for years they have bagged ice in the office fridge. Ended up with a space heater last time I rented not a huge deal but still a sign of the times. More like a private owned hotel with a chain name.
This Travelodge is located in a nice enough area, rooms are standard if a little run down, cable is basic and internet is sufficient. Be sure to ask for a non smoking room, as a certain part of the property houses smoking rooms. The first roomed reeked of smoke as it neighbored a few smoking rooms, after switching to a different area of the hotel there were no issues.
Ants in bathroom, torn sheets, blood stains on bed blanket, half roll of toilet paper in room, no remote for television, hallways not air conditioned, smoke filled hallways, side door not latching and open to public and staff does not speak English and/or poor English ability & finally carpeting in hallways filthy! Also outside handicap ramp not accessible due to two 55-gallon drums on pallet, blocking handicap ramp!
The minute we walked it Smelt like it hadnt been clean in years the people checking us in hardly spoke English you could not understand them the room was dirty and there was blood stains on my pillow and there was stains all over the sheets I tried to use the bathroom and the toilet flooded. over all junkie place you definitely pay for what you get do not expect alot from this place.
Horrible experience here... stains all over the floor and the towels... like dirty gross stains that didnt come out but the decided to put them in the rooms anyway... weird stains on the comforter.. just terrible. I wouldnt recommend this place for anyone.. definitely stay somewhere else (preferably 10 times cleaner!)
We walked out without getting a room. The front desk clerk was less than friendly and not willing to answer questions on if there was a vacancy on the first floor to accommodate disabled people. And two current customers told us that when they checked in their room it was nasty dirty and to not stay there. So, we left.
If I could leave 0 stars I would. NO locks on the windows, which makes you feel real safe considering all the shady characters you see there. Every Ice machine is broken. The soda vending machine has no soda in it. Ever. The older woman at the desk tried to kick me out a day early when I paid for two weeks. No breakfast. Someone came to my door looking for drugs one day with money in hand and realized they were at the wrong door. The outlets dont all work. When the housekeeper DID clean, there was still crumbs all over the floor. The WiFi is also extremely slow.Real pleasant place
This is a very basic hotel, great for a good nights rest. Nothing special but honestly it was the most comfortable bed Ive ever slept in at a hotel. It was quiet and the front desk seems to be a family and they were all very welcoming. I asked for late check out and it was no problem.
This hotel should be torn down. OMG Please send the health inspector in quick!! room 120 is filthy and had previous boogers on the walls not clean at all doors are unlock so security is a NOT!!!! their tenats roaming the halls no shirts on Please send a health inspector in quick...Do not waist your money and make sure you view your room before staying. pictures on the website is not true well not the room they put in. They are very rude too
DO NOT BOOK AT THIS HOTEL!!!!!!Disgusting, filthy, dirty, cheap, irrational, and over priced. This hotel looked more like a murder scene than like a hotel. Smoke stains everywhere through the hotel. They dont keep the side door locked so anyone can walk in and out whenever they please, including those who arent guests. On 2 separate occasions we walked down the hall to people smoking in the hallway entrance when we requested NON SMOKING due to asthma issues. After we were ensured it was SMOKE FREE we were quick to discover that nothing about that entire hotel is SMOKE FREE. So if your children or family members cant be within 30 feet of cigarette smoke, than DO NOT go here. There were old hardened dried out flower petals under our bed, the towels were stained and hard, the bed spread was filthy, the heater spewed out dirt and dust when we turned it on, the railing in the bathtub was broken in half, the carpet was dirty, there were food stains inside the fridge, the nightstand and lamps were covered in dust, and even after disinfecting the whole room it still smelled like smoke. The CONTINENTAL BREAKFAST was old stale donuts, juice thrown into dirty pitchers, and bagels that you had to eat dry because their butter and cream cheese looked expired. The worst experience Ive ever had with a hotel. As far as customer service....WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IVE EVER ENCOUNTERED!!! When you could understand their broken English, you still had to repeatedly ask them to repeat what was said. When they did speak clearly, it was because they were arguing with you.I would rather pay to stay in a truck stop bathroom than to stay here again.
WHO EVER OWNS THIS FRANCHISE SHOULD HAVE IT TAKEN AWAY!!!!! On a recent stay, we had cob webs on the walls, sticky gunk (dont want to know) on all the walls in the bathroom, cigarette burns on the sheets and carpet, the side doors were never locked, unsafe parking lot, no phone, no ironing board, and crusty dirt on desk. Plus, an unfriendly staff, we asked to clean webs and gunk, and was told he would try and talk with housekeeping), the result of our request, one spot of gunk was cleaned.I cant believe Days Inn Corporate is letting this happen, its their name on the building and places like this reflect poorly on all Days Inns, because if this is what you find at one, what do the rest of them look like.
I wouldnt leave a star but thats the only way i could comments on how horrible it was , the place wad a messy, dirty hotel, full of not so fortunate people, drugs and police and media was there to make arrests and a rally against the manager was being held. I left because i nicely asked police if this place was safe he said no.
This Motel is very clean and the management extremely nice and very helpful. I would recommend this facility even if I didnt help build it years ago with Onan.I have been blessed with unparalleled vision for deer and evil!ALL GLORY GOES TO GOD ... Without the Lord Jesus Christ I am nothing!Check Out my GREATNESS on YOUTUBE!
WOW!!!!I always, ALWAYS read the reviews before I stay somewere.... Except this time....BOY WAS IT A MISTAKE!!!NEVER STAY HERE!!! EVER!!!!all these horrible reviews are 100% accurate.Worst hotel I have ever stayed at, EVER!!!!This place should be shut down, I didnt want to toutch anything and felt disgusting after my stay and I even slept ontop of the sheets in my clothes!NASTY NASTY NASTY!!!
I would give it 0 stars if i could first thing I noticed when I walked in was how dirty the carpet looked when up to the room had bad smell hair in bath tub and not to mention all the mold around tub and toilet thought the worst was over woke up around 2 am to use restroom and I noticed the floor was moving looked closer and realized there were ants all over the bathroom floor went downstairs immediately to complain I did get another room but I dont think I have to mention I could not sleep after that if you are looking for a hotel room near this area I suggest you look somewhere else there are plenty of hotels nearby
BED BUGS ROOM 230 NASTY smell of stale old cigarettes in the air woke up at 4:00 am finding bedbugs on both beds got 3 kids with me never again will I go the cheap route would of did better off in a tent in the parking lot my wife got ate up I wanna file a complaint on them please GO SOMEWHERE ELSE PLEASE I SHOULD OF LISTEN TO THE REVIEWS WARNING BAD HOTEL WHERES CHEF RAMSEY

2022-05-15Its a decent place to stay. Some reviews made me lery. But It isnt bad. Not all the amenities some people are looking for, a place to lay your head down and be comfortable. Is all I was looking for, and that it is. Nice rooms and nice beds. I was here last year and came back again this year.

2022-02-22My rating is 0 stars as I am forced to put 1 star.. Bed bugs , yellow staining all over the bedding, tub was stained up as if someone showered and it was never clean. Towels had yellow stains on them. Tried to check in she told me “(you people) are not allowed here your kind makes too much noise, when you people come the rooms stink all the time) told her to cancel my reservation they won’t be getting anymore of my money stayed there once & was skeptical then that situation happened last night (2/21/22). If you are black your not wanted there they will creep around your bedroom doors make sure you aren’t doing anything if you have toddlers go some where else they complain about kids being there

2021-12-21The room was nice. I didnt know that it came with a mini stove, it had a mini fridge and then under the stove I thought it was an oven, but nope it was another huge fridge.Okay, the room wasnt the best in retrospect. There was a huge hole in the wall next to the desk, there was old dried blood on the other wall near the desk and dresser, the mini fridge wasnt clean at all. There were crumbs all over the mini fridge, and it was yellow and cracked. There was no dishes (not even asingle pot or pan either) at all in any of the cabinets (you would think there was since there was a two burner stove top). Even though right now I am homeless it doesnt mean that I dont have standards for what I want to lay my head down on. The pillows were flimsy, the bed was hard as all get out and to be honest I couldve slept in my car better and more comfortably, but was the first cold night and my boyfriend and I needed to be out the cold. The room itself had a odd smell to it right when we walked in. The bathroom wasnt all that great either. I mean the shower was really retro looking, so I liked that much of the room. Also we had the best room in town....well we wouldve if it was actually able to be used. We had room 104; well room 104 was right next door to the laundry room, but unfortunately you cant use the laundry room until a certain time and last time to use it is like 9:00pm. Come on what if I needed to get my laundry done right at that time like at 2:00am? Plus I have anxiety issues (like really severe problems that prohibit me from being around people without someone I know being there with me). This is the reason I do all my laundry and shopping after everyone is sleeping and I can go alone and not have a horrible anxiety attack that cant be controlled or stopped.Staff wasnt all that nice either. Plus for a late check-out they charged me an additional $25 that I couldnt pay when I left....I had to pay it RIGHT AT THAT MOMENT!!!! Rude, greedy, dirty and I will leave it at that.

2022-04-04Attempted to get a room. The desk clerk was sooo rude. We travel nonstop for work ( we are pet transporters) just dropped off after driving from Pennsylvania. She questioned why anyone would need a room at this hour (6 a.m.) I told her we drove from Pennsylvania. She just said NOPE. Glad I didnt pay anything. I am a Wyndham Rewards member .

2021-08-12I appreciated having this local place to escape to when the power was out for two days during this heat wave. Gave us a little discount when we added a second night at just about checkout time, worked with us to ensure we were taken care of while we couldnt be in the comfort of our home 5 minutes away. Its now on the top of the list when my guests come into town.In both price and accommodations, youre in a sweet spot between hotel and motel. Quiet even when mostly full, and plentiful parking near exits. Nice staff that seem to always be available on site. Not a new facility, but rooms decorated with cool vintage furniture/ fridge.Very few hotels allow smoking anymore. If you cant stand even the slightest smoke odor, thats easy to find. I am not a cigarette smoker, and though I could tell they allow smoking in some rooms, even in our smoking designated room it was not overwhelming whatsoever. Also was nice to have a hotel room with windows that open. Which I assume is a bonus of the smoking rooms, but could be in the non smoking, I did not inquire.

2021-07-31I’m not sure what the other reviews are talking about. Staff was very friendly, the hotel was clean. There was a SLIGHT cigarette smell in the hallway but it really wasn’t bad (this is coming from a non-smoker). The room was nice and clean too. Again, not sure why these other reviews are talking so badly about this hotel. Overall had a great stay!

2021-08-01Would not recommend staying here. The entire place smelled really bad of cigarette to and marijuana smoke. The towels were stained, the sheets were stained, and the pillows stank. The air conditioning unit worked really well but it was extremely LOUD and did not make for a peaceful sleep.

2021-05-12I stayed here last year for about a month. The only issue I had was the bed bugs, but they werent too much of a problem. The staff was always very nice to me and made conversation and tried to make me laugh too. It was a comforting place to go home to after a long day at work. Ill cherish my memories there forever.

2021-07-11I had a very bad experience staying at this particular Motel. The place was filthy with cigarette smoke, the Carpets were very dirty, the Linens had holes in them, the bathroom was not clean, the furniture was pathetic , etc etc. Most of the Motels/Hotels I stayed during my Business visit were in bad shape. Seems that the Indian Owners cares more about Profits than the care and satisfaction of their American customers! I have already contacted the Dept of Health to look into this matter! Shame on these Indian Owners!
