Stopped by to take a look at the restaurant as well as the theater next to it. Both of them look great, new and spacious. Best of all its right in front of the lake and the views are awesome. The theatre is big and spacious and it had its own Windows and doors facing the lake. I like the high ceilings mostly. The bathroom had sensors for both the soap, water and dryer. Fancy.
We really wanted to like this place, but everything was three stars. The staff must have been having an off night because host, server and support staff were not friendly. The bread was good, but the prosciutto was THICK, which made the fat, if cut thinly enjoyable, chewy. The Cobb salad had a guacamole that seemed store bought. My UnderTow wasn’t very good either. We will give it another shot because there were too many things that seemed off for this to be a normal experience.
Very cool place for a wedding reception. The view of the lake is beautiful. Cocktail hour, right outside and a few steps from the lake is fun. There are a few trees near the entrance and it is the perfect place to hold a wedding ceremony. Food is good, everything is well managed as super clean. A+ recommendation!!Ray – The Connexion Band
Best Cobb Salad I have ever had. Service at the bar was lacking because they were understaffed at the bar. 25 patrons at the bar and only one bartender for that many people. The weather is 53 degrees today so a lot of people decided to come here. The one bartender was great and was working within his limits... just needs more support and staff. Also keep your to-go boxes behind the bar. It’s all about speed and efficiency in the restaurant business .
One of my favorite Chicago spots. The food is delicious and affordable, the views are to DIE for, the ambiance and staff are warm and welcoming. Whether coming for a professional dinner or brunch with booze for a friends birthday, this is THE go to spot. Susan and Connor have been here since the beginning supporting this fabulous venue and providing best-in-class hospitality. Best thing- you can make a reservation!!! We love the Lakefront restaurant and are so happy to have them in the neighborhood.
As a Wedding & Event Planner based in Chicago (Christine Janda Design & Events) I cannot recommend Theater on the Lake enough as a truly fabulous Wedding and special events venue. Not only is it located in one of the most gorgeous locations in Chicago, the venue itself provides endless value to their Clients. From in-house lounge vignettes and furniture to sound & lighting that can enhance any fabulous band to an excellent bar offering. My Clients (who just held their wedding there on August 6th of 2021) were beyond thrilled, as was I!Anna Phillips, who manages the space, is excellent to work with and doesnt miss a bit. She is incredibly personal and takes such time and care with each of her Clients - a breath of fresh air in the event world! As we continue to work through unchartered waters for event planning in 2021, having a venue with ample space to safely spread out, both inside and outside, is a true gift. I already cant wait to have my team and Clients back at Theater on the Lake.
Valet employee was very ugly and rube. I just left restaurant inquiring about correct parking and her was unprofessional. I know we should give young people a chance but they wast just bad customer service. I decided to take my business somewhere else. Would give them a zero stars if I could.
What an exceptional facility! I attended a Gala here lastnight. It was easy to get to and valet was affordable. The venue itself is gorgeous. The view of the lakefront is spectacular. The staff was attentive and courteous. Food was just okay, but Im a picky eater. I am definitely looking to host an event at this facility.
Amazingly inexpensive for a lakeside restaurant. Kind of an upscale grill vibe. Chicken was good with nice slaw and mashed potatoes. The side of grilled vegetables was cooked well. White fish was good tho cooked a little to firmly for my taste. Included broccoli and rice pilaf. Good selection for kids menu (thanks).Varied selection of beer. And , surprise to me, the two bottles of hot sauce definitely has some kick. What? Midwesterners eat spicy food? I thought ketchup was it?Parking is valet which was worth the $17 since it was raining heavily.I recommend checking this place out!
Wonderful brunch experience with chill vibes, very open space, and lovely views in this restored venue hall. We had excellent service and tasty entrees. The portions are generous. We started with homemade donut holes and shared the “eggel,” chicken fried chicken, and omelet. I would not recommend the omelet dish; rather I wish we went for the cereal French toast. Will be back.
This place is AWESOME! THE VIEW! THE DRINKS!! THE FOOD!!! Did I mention that drinks? The wine selection exceeds my very selective girlfriends expectations, and the cocktails are always wonderful. I havent had a bad meal there, either. I cant wait to visit in the summer!
This is a beautiful theatre in the woods with views of the water. Its magical at night with special lighting among the trees. The word charming is not sufficient. The theatre is well designed with some extra wide seats if needed. It is handicapped accessible. We were amazed, thrilled and absolutely delighted by the play Silent Sky. If we could have extended our Door county stay, we would have seen the play a second time.
Wonderful location to enjoy the picturesque Chicago skyline. We went to celebrate a dinner and really enjoyed the ambiance. Our waiter was very helpful. The only downside (I would give it 4.5 stars was the rather limited menu options, especially for anyone with dietary restrictions.
A great place to eat and drink on the lakefront. Beyond the novelty of converting the old theater into a modern event space and restaurant/bar, its just lovely to be able to go someplace nice down by the lake. Its a great brunch spot on the weekend. Always get the smashed and fried potatoes regardless of any other food orders. They are ungodly good.
Excellent place for events! I was there for a wedding, and it could not have been better, absolutely perfect. The in-house catering is awesome, the facilities are clean and well-kept, the facilities staff are very professional, and the view is about as good as you can get without being in the clouds. Highly recommended.
We just went for the time and absolutely loved it! We sat at the bar. We loved the atmosphere. The food was great. We had the burrata to start, and then a burger and the market vegetable salad. We loved everything. Highly recommend! However, do not drive; rather walk or Uber as the parking is horrendous.
A well-run place at an great location. Close to the Lincoln Park zoo and Conservatory as well as the Nature Museum. Plenty of bike parking. I restaurant was doing valet parking. Nearby street parking exists, but is limited. You may be best off using the zoos paid lot or taking a taxi/Lyft/Uber. Good views of the lake with outdoor seating at the restaurant, not many places in Chicago can claim that. I didnt eat at the restaurant, but the bartenders were very friendly. There was a decent, limited beer selection. I came for a performance. The newly renovated space is larger than it used to be. It feel like the acoustics are not great towards the back because of slight echo. This didnt affect my experience because my event had a pretty small audience. They may set-up additional speakers for larger events. All in all, the venue hosted everything perfectly. Helpful and pleasant staff were not hard to find. This is definitely one of the coolest venues in town and a lovely location to grab I bite to eat.
Went here as part of a bike tour on a very cold and dreary day. The building is beautifully restored, which apparently was once a sanitarium for patients suffering from tuberculosis. The theater/concert hall is amazing and can easily accommodate weddings and parties. The staff there were attentive, fun and very willing to answer any and all questions. We particularly enjoyed our bearded bartender, Dallas! The beer we had was a craft beer created especially for the restaurant and the bar area was beautiful. I would come here again to try the food.
Large foot print on Lake Michigan shore line. Several room for events and a small theatre room.Large dining area with stunning view of the lake and shore. Floor to ceiling glass adds the sky to the mix.Probably will have outdoor seating in the summer. Valet parking.Above average menu and a large wine list. Serving flights of wine and beer.Large rectangular bar with television .Dinner and drinks for two was $100.00.Nice space. Have to wait to see how the summer beach crowd effects the place
Overall I really like this place. All of the food we tried was delicious. Started with doughnut holes. All I can say is YES! I decided on the Brunch Hash which was full of flavor. I especially liked the addition of sausage patties and smashed potatoes in it. My girlfriend had the Brunch Omelet which I assumed she liked based on all of the moaning I heard from her. Haha We couldnt resist ordering a side of the bacon which was well worth every penny. The service was fine but the views are unbeatable. Stop in here. Its not as expensive as you may think.
Great place to see good locally produced top notch Chicago plays at a very reasonable price by lake front. Its housed in recently renovated building at Fullerton by the lake which it shares with a restaurant by the same name. The theater is run by the Chicago Park District, hence the reasonable price of shows. The restaurant is privately run. Both venues operate year round (at least thats the plan). It will be interesting to see the frozen lake right outside the windows while be warm and cozy enjoying meals and/or catching some plays indoor.
We went to a wedding here, and were blown away by the venue. From the convenient valet parking, to the multi-room setup, to the food, to the staff, to the setting, it all was so well done. Plus, with the renovations to the facility, it was just the perfect spot for an event.
This venue was amazing. I went for a wedding and it was truly remarkable. Amazing sized dancefloor. Great views of the Michigan and downtown Chicago. Only criticism k have is the food (disappointed with that, tasted like bad baquet food). Overall, though, the venue was great and would recommend for weddings or any other celebration really
What a great idea-a lakefront dining experience with higher end food and drinks in an upscale setting! Unfortunately, these guys are taking longer than usual to iron out the wrinkles. The service at the bar is fine, table service is abysmal. One pet peeve, whats with the sugary mustard?
Amazing location! We went for a family brunch. The bartenders did their best to make me a not-so-spicy bloody mary. I wouldnt exactly call their bagel a bagel, but the rest of the food we had was spot on. Our server was a little pushy and we ended up with more food than we needed, but she was very attentive. They do have coffee, but no espresso drinks, something they could definitely use. But this is a place you can definitely have a relaxing Sunday afternoon at. Another thing to watch out for is the $17 valet parking...
Interesting revamp of the old 20s theatre. Done more to be a catering than a performance location. Summertime reboot of successful storefront productions. Depends on what is performed on how well the space works for the company. Valet parking is offered as there is nothing avaliable otherwise and its a good hike from any street parking.
Lovely venue. Staff are incredible here. I was just passing through Chicago and it was lovely. The food was excellent and the waiter was very attentive. I wish this place the best of luck in its future career and if Im passing through Chicago again I will be visiting again.
I really want this place to succeed but was disappointed this past Saturday. 4 of us visited for lunch at 1:30 pm and the menu was essentially only breakfast items and an option for a burger. The waitress stated the reason was that there was an event starting at 3 pm so they would be closed. I found it bizarre that typical lunch options were not available and furthermore I feel that if their normal business hours are not consistent then I cannot really count on going there often. 3 of us had Margaritas and they seemed watered down. Lastly, I ordered an amoretto sour and the bar didnt stock amoretto which I consider a standard drink. I guess be be sure and call before going to make sure an event isnt going to interfere with the menu or hours. The atmosphere is great. I will give it one more try.
This place is the epitome much of what is wrong with Chicago and America today.Let me start by going over the good points. Location and view.Beyond that the place is a -10.Food mediocre.Drinks: badThey have spent a lot of time/energy and money by creating artificial scarcity by (massivey) cutting down the number of seats and tables. The aceess to the place is horrendous. The waste of space is in your face and deliberate. Large open spaces with few tables and manufactured lines. Is sad to see that impresses so many people today.Chicago is what it is due partly to making the strip of land by Lake Michigan public. This place gives the flying middle finger to that history and revels in ugly American wasting precious land and resources thinking. If you want to make a statement about how little you care about global warming and wasteful destruction of resources then go here. And the food and drinks are bad.
The managers of this establishment are terrible. They called the cops on people that were trying to stay warm. I do not recommend coming here or coming to any event here, A manager was yelling in the face of someone who was trying to keep his date warm and kicked them out without mercy.
We had a wonderful time last night at Theater on the Lake. This newly renovated venue was host to the James Beard Awards, Chefs Night Out. Theater on the Lake is yet another example of the efforts Mayor Rahm Emmanuel is making to bring more business and attention to our beautiful city.
Sat at the bar for 15 min and did not even get acknowledged by any of the staff. So, we left. The host did not greet us and did not say anything when we left. There was a bartender that was making drinks right in front of us and even looked at us a couple of times but did not say anything. Will not go back to this place!

2021-11-05Came here for my birthday with my grandparents in September. I had always meant to visit this place, and it didn’t disappoint! Great ambiance and tasty food - pictures are grilled cheese and tomato soup and the fish and chips! Highly recommend the cocktails as well.

2021-11-30Attended for the candlelit Amy Winehouse tribute band event. It was a good time. The band did a good job. Drinks were available throughout the show. If you’re planning on having dinner beforehand at the restaurant make sure to show up early. The restaurant is at the forefront of the building, the theater is in the back part of the building (connected but separate). Valet was $10, not bad. Really nice view from restaurant.

2022-02-23We finally went to Theatre on the Lake for the Amy Winehouse candlelight jazz tribute. We went on a snowy, windy February evening. The lake was churning and crashing dramatically against the sea wall.We did the $10 valet. They were quick and efficient and awesome. When we left, they even help us clean the snow off our car. Outstanding! Bring cash to give the valets a hefty tip. They deserve it.On our way to the performance space, we walked past the bar and restaurant area. The space has high ceilings and the walls are mostly windows. The tables were well spaced (because of Covid precautions?).It had a nice vibe. I definitely want to go for a drink and a meal soon. Id also like to go when the weather is warm and the patio is open. The performance space was big with a great view of the lake. There was a small bar in the back of the performance space with a cool bartender. The staff here are cool and professional. I get the impression that this place has it together and does things right. I love it and cant wait to go back and bring friends.

2021-03-07Lovely open terrace, good food, nothing esoteric. Good service. The tables are a bit small and get crowded easily. Prices are ok. Overall enjoyable experience. Not pictured: pretty good burger.

2021-07-05There was no line but the stuff was unfriendly and we waited to solve their problem.noone simile or apologized while we wait. There is a disgusting smell inside the building. We need to sit outside. Menu was so limited there is no gluten-free item. They are not flexible for your food allergy.

2022-05-01We were there for breakfast on a saturday morning. Beautiful setting overlooking Kake Michigan. All 4 of us were happy with our meal, but my breakfast nachos with Nueskes bacon, and my friends fried, smashed potatoes were the stuff of legend

2022-06-05Theater on the Lake acted in an arrogant and illegal manner on June 4, 2022. They cordoned off an a large area east of the theater, and they rudely demanded the bicyclists immediately remove their bikes from the racks. They also blocked the sidewalk and allowed trucks to drive on the bike trail. All of this was done without a city permit. When challenged, the organizers lied and said a permit was not necessary for them. This company had to right to infringe on public property. They also showed that they have no understand of how to treat people with respect. Their arrogance means they should go out of business. They will never get a penny from me.

2022-06-03I was trying to make a reservation two months in advance, we contacted Maggie Geoghegan, she told us that everything is ready and that we needed to wait a few days for an answer. she told us that she was going to call us she never called us. and now it turns out that everything is already booked and we cant do anything! I wasted my time in this place! what a big disappointment! I am so upset that they have treated us with no respect!

2022-06-22I work at this venue almost weekly. The view is spectacular. My only complain is that there no parking for staff. Guests need shuttles or vallet.
