I worked at the Continental for about 10 years. Still go in there. The food still great! The owner Pete is fantastic. Today had my parents 50th wedding anniversary theyre absolutely amazing. Pete thanks for making the day phenomenal.
I meet my friends here so often that we never take pictures of the food. But everything Ive eaten there has been delicious. Whether its breakfast,lunch, brunch, or dinner everything always tastes fantastic. There is something on the menu for everyone. The owner is always there and the servers are all terrific!!!! If you want to have a good meal with friends in a casual setting,this is the place. Not noisy so good for conversation and we never get rushed out!!!! Love this place❤️

When I am in the area this is my go to place. They have a large Greek Restaurant Style menu with choices overload. They have an ice cream/soda fountain, and a party room. Easter and Passover are coming up and I would recommend them for catering your party, BUT, I cant garuntee if they are Koser.
Good food at reasonable prices. Breakfast is served all day. The sweet and sour cabbage soup is delicious.

Way too much food! Came into town to visit the parent and they told me to go there. Was not expecting such a large variety on the menu. Greek food....deli sandwiches...salads.. Get there before 6pm cuz wow did that place Fill up.

Our first experience was awesome. The Lamb Shank fell off the bone and the chopped steak was great. Chicken Soup was like moms. The cheesecake to die for. What a great find as an upscale diner...

Just horrible. I had the chopped steak which had been broiled beyond recognition. My wife had one of their specials, the roast pork covered in a gelatinous gravy. The whole thing was inedible. We took the leftovers home and threw them out. The only thing that was ok was the soup, but $44 dollars is alot for a couple of bowls of soup.
Seemed overpriced for mediocre food. Was immediately turned off with the basket of cold hard rolls and saltine crackers brought to the table. We ordered the saganaki and it was pretty good. The staff was nice.
We are regular customers and we order food every day.Im not looking for an extra care, but every day i have to explain same thing to get exactly how I want. (most of the time to the same person). I feel no care about regular customer.Everything changed to worse 2 days ago:Staff member displayed lack of communication skills and spoke to me in a rude attitude and high raised voice.I can go so on..But definitely not coming back again!Please train your stuff properly to deal with the customers.
What a hidden gem. I have been living in Buffalo Grove for six years and decided to try this restaurant today. Gyros sandwich, fries, and clam soup were absolutely delicious. Portions were enough for two meals so value is amazing. The gentleman ringing me out also had impeccible manners and time management, offering a lady to be taken care of first so she could be on her way quickly. And this while they were extremely busy. You do not see old fashioned chivalry like that as much these days. Noted good sir and very much appreciate the example. I will be coming back.

Pete is a phenomenal owner who works so hard to ensure quality food, ingredients, staff, and service. Great place to host graduation parties etc. You will have so many portions that you will have leftovers woth incredible value. This is a staple of Buffalo Grove that adds value to the community through both dining and the charitable acts that Pete and his business take on.
Flew in from out of town and wanted to grab a quick bite before meeting with family in burbs. I searched for restaurants I could eat at close to my destination. Online it shows Continental Restaurant opens at 7 AM, perfect. But after I’m dropped off, the sign on the window says: open at 8. It’s two years into the pandemic and at a time when restaurants need to be on top of their game, this establishment has dropped the ball in terms of presenting correct information to its potential customer base. Alas, I shrugged it it off and waited outside for the 50 mins. However 40 mins later, a woman who appeared to be owner/manager comes to door. I explain to her what my situation was and she shrugged her shoulders with a “sorry” and walked inside. As a partner in a restaurant myself (family owned fast casual pizzeria), I know how bad reviews can hurt business BUT I also would NEVER leave a customer sitting outside, especially when any inconvenience to them was due to me. Not even a “please come sit inside! Can I get you a coffee?” Nothing. As I finish writing this, it is now past 8 AM and no server has come to greet me at my table outside. Complete garbage. Take your money elsewhere.
Hamburger was very dry, lettuce was pale white, soup was great, service was great, cold in restaurant

Family dining, comfortable setting, above average food. The corned beef was piled high and served warm along with a bowl of matzoh ball soup...delicious.
Good place for breakfast and lunch. Friendly staff and good food. I enjoyed a BLT with fries and coleslaw, preceded by matzo ball soup. Everything was good, especially the fries which were not greasy but were crispy.

We had an attentive server. Food was great and lots of it. Loved my matzo ball/noodle soup. Very plentiful, just needed some seasoning,which I added. Had a pastrami sandwich,which was huge. Had to take more than 1/2 of it home. Nice place and many choices on menu.
Went to lunch here today. All went well until the food arrived.My daughters soup had a struggling fly in it. She spooned it out to show the server who offered her soup to take home. Daughter turned her down on that - server said Oh well. Oh well indeed!!My sandwich came with three hairs on the side. I pointed them out and was told that they looked about my length. No, I said my hair is not that long. Oh well, she said again. She declined my request for the Manager.Oh well!! is right. Never again. We will not be recommending the Continental to Anyone. A 1 is too good, but I cant give a negative number. When we paid, we were asked if we wanted to leave a tip - we told the cashier about our experience - she apologized. My request for the Manager was again politely declined.Sweep it all under the rug.
The matzo ball soup is home-made and very good. Homey, comfort food. Sorta a combo of Greek and Jewish with other standard classic diner platters.
Staff was friendly, took over an hour for them to serve us, half the orders didnt come out on time and by then didnt want the food anymore. Had big hopes but was very disappointed. Dont know if they were understaffed but this is unexcepable.
This restaurant has the best patty melt’s in the northwest suburbs. I’ve been to other restaurants and nothing compares to Continental. The food is fresh and hot

I have come here since I was in elementary school. In my late twenties now, I have to admit that their standards have become better and food has become impeccable.Came here again after the original review and met the server Marc. Outstanding customer service and very compassionate, respectful and caring subscription to the code of conduct on his part. One of the best servers.
One of the best restaurants i’ve ever been to, service was beyond superb and the staff was so friendly and nice. Very accommodating and the food was some of the best we’ve ever had. Such a great family restaurant, we will be back very soon. Highly recommend to anyone who wants some delicious food in a wonderful friendly environment

Very nice and helpful staff! I asked for more creamer and a lady with a smile on her face said Absolutely hun no problem and came back 30 seconds later with a handful of the creamers I asked for. The food is amazing and made very quickly. If you go try the Motzaball soup (sorry if I butchered the spelling).
They just repainted the whole interior. Looks great! Theyre following all CDC guidelines using every other both with plexiglass partitions in between and a few tables as well. Also offering outdoor seating. Food and staff are great as ever. Way to go Pete!
My family & I stopped here to eat breakfast, visiting family, which lives near by.We had a good breakfast, the kids loved their Belgian waffles& Mickey Mouse pancakes. Kaitlyn was our great waitress! And the mgr,that seated us, was welcoming and gave good vibes as well. We eat here every time we visit.Thanks for the great service!
The atmosphere was very nice and spacious. The waiter was very friendly and kept checking on us to make sure all was well. The food was good portions and well made. Decent prices for all the people we had. Overall it was a great experience. Definitely would recommend you go and have yourself a good meal

Food was good, I had the chop sirloin and it was done to order.... pancakes were good size and everything tasted fresh. Service could have been better.... but it was very busy and so we took that into account, it would have been a much different scenario if there were fewer people in the restaurant at the time we we visited. Very good restaurant overall, and I would return.
I have to give this restaurant 5 stars, which is nothing short of amazing, but even with 5 stars, it still has a couple problems. The owner Pete is probably the most personal business owner I have met in my life. When you are there, you can see this is not an owner who hides out in his office and pretends to push papers. This man seriously LOVES what he does, and you can feel it before you even sit down. I see him performing every role in a restaurant depending on the needs at the moment. When hes in the kitchen, NO food comes out wrong. When hes on the floor, hes talking with his guests. Hes always pleasant. He seems EXCITED to be a part of your day, even if you can find something to complain about. Now on that note, the only complaint I have is, that everyone there isnt him. That being said, in the event hes NOT in the building (which is rare), the standards slip quite a bit. If you see Pete on deck, best believe this place will treat you like royalty, and give you food to match.I recommend the ceasar salad, French dip, Turkey club, and matzo ball soup.
Id like to give this place more stars but beyond the hostess holding the door and being very friendly, the rest of the service was not good. Great selection of food and good quality food. The waiter had issues taking our order and didnt know what came with the food, types of soup and salad. The food took a long time to come, even though the place was only half full. We never saw the waiter again until he brought the bill and only at that time did he ask if I needed a refill on my ice tea. If the wait staff improves, I would give this place more stars.
My wife and i stopped for lunch Sunday. We were greeted right away. and seated, We got water right away. Good menu. nice waitress. Food came fast. was very good. The owner thanked us as we paid. we recommend this spot to all.
Soups are so good!! Huge matzo ball!! Had a patty melt and fruit instead of fries. So fresh and refreshing. Hubby had a cheeseburger and chicken noodle soup. Lots of cjicken and LOTS of tasty noodles. No room for dessert due to large portions. So yummy...and you can support groups by entering your tab sub total. Nice way to give to community groups!! Great place and super nice staff.
Im not sure how long weve been coming to Continental, but I know its at least 25+ years. Pete has been here all this time. What an OUTSTANDING gentleman. Every restaurant should follow Petes lead. Weve eaten here maybe 100 times. Maybe its even 200 times. Ive definitely lost track. All I know is that this is our go to spot. AMAZING staff. Too much food:):). It just cant be beat! I dont know when Pete & Patty sleep? Theyre here ALL the time. Please dont ever leave!

Imagine ... a server who actually looks like they enjoy their job AND seems pretty happy that your butt is in their booth! A beautiful and spacious restaurant (and a seperate banquet room) with a gracious hostess and a friendly owner (Nick) and staff. We came here for breakfast and we were impressed by the fresh and generous portions. Pricing and cleanliness of this family dining experience is a cut above the rest, easily rating this as a 5 star restaurant.
Good food, alright prices, nice portions for the money. Just left the restaurant. What a nightmare! I ordered the sliders, fries and a coffee. I wanted 2 burgers and a cod fish slider. I received a crunchy over cooked burger, a decent burger and a chicken slider. Took a long time to get the Cod slider. Waitress was full of apologetic remarks but not service. What a waste. Any other time I dine here, I am happy with the service. Get it together!
Love the place as always. But its nothing without Jennifer. Im so happy she is doing well and that my mornings are back to normal again. Breakfast with family again is what I call it!!!! Glad Pete was able to let her come back part time. She was so missed. My kids are so happy. As always she makes breakfast fun. Stopped by with a couple of friends, one who eats there often. She said everything here is great. She was right. From the veggie soup to fries, BLT to blintzes. And they dont skimp on portions. A side soup that came with the sandwich was a bowl - not a cup. The BLT was the size of two sandwiches. Plus the staff was very friendly and attentive. Refills before the glasses were empty, automatically seat groups far apart when possible for privacy. Will definitely return. Dying to thy the dessert/ice cream menu - its massive!
Friendly neighborhood atmosphere. Homestyle cooking. My mother in law refers to the Continental as her 2nd kitchen. Great value as you are served a ton of food. And its delicious! We always eat at least 2 more meals from our take home boxes. Owner Pete supports a lot of local groups from Boy Scout Troops to Sports to Band and Orchestra in the schools. Cant go wrong, something for everyone on the menu.
We had a church event in the party room. The service was relatively quick. Our waiter was courteous. The food was delicious. Our cake was quickly served for dessert.

We hosted a post Bar Mitzvah brunch for our grandson Ben. Everything was excellent and our private server was fantastic and was there for us during the entire event. Ive been a customer of Continental since, well, the day before they opened. Youll continually find quality food, generous portions, and an owner greeting you at the door with a smile. Oh, and the banquet room is perfect for your small gathering, no matter what the occasion - Ive used it at least twice!

Bad service, decent food.We have been going here for years, but things have taken a turn in service. Wait servers and host are rude and cant handle busy service times. Orders are messed up consistently or forgotten altogether. Hostess has her favorites and only pays attention to them. It seems no longer worth it to eat here.
Had the open face turkey sandwich. Several slices of great tasting white meat with plenty of gravy made this about the best that Ive ever had. The mashed potatoes were very good, and while not very plentiful, the jellied cranberry sauce tasted very good. I will go back for more.
My all time favorite!The food is fresh, delicious, very generous portions, and reasonably priced.Some places seem like they heat up pre-packaged meals, but not here. This truely seems like home cooked meals. I cant say enough about this place!
Prices are ok, serving are ok. However, the atmosphere in this restaurant is like at fast food. No music, only forks clinking. Floors not clean, dirty spots everywhere. We get a lipstick soiled glasses. Besides, potato patties were made from potato powder!!! This is disgusting! Definitely this is not a place to visit with your girlfriend. This is mostly about farm fast food..
Great family restaurant. Big (huge) portions of ordinary food. Youll never rave about anything, buy I guarantee youll never leave hungry. Dont expect farm to table type food, but if Meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy are your thing dont miss this place.

We recently had our wedding ceremony and dinner reception in the Continental banquet room adjacent to the restaurant. Pete and his wife did a fantastic job decorating the room including the colors and design of the tables and the alter. The food and the service was excellent and all the guests commented on how perfect the evening was. Thank you so much for a most memorable experience!!

Myself and my wife love this restaurant. I am a big fan of the bacon and she is literally obsessed with the cream of chicken with rice soup. Would highly recommend for breakfast or lunch.

Very very good food. Lots to each seving. The service was wonderful. It was alittle loud. We where there between breakfast and lunch so the were preparing for lunch. Dishes were droped, but that happens. They couldnt of been more apologetic. We will be back. Recommended.

My family has been coming here for years, and it is always a memorable experience, in the best way. The staff are amazing, the food and drinks are fantastic, they have Jewish food and other cultural foods,the owner Peter Looks exactly Like Dr.Phil, and so much more. CLAM CHOWDER is thick/creamy and seems to have potatoes pureed in it; the soup was very good. GYROS are off the spit and just enough crispy bits. Large portion, after soup and bread you will take home leftovers. SERVICE was done at the right pace, didnt wait too long for anything.
Very crowded on weekend evenings but well worth the wait. Pete (owner) is a fantastic host and has a large following of regulars. The menu has a large selection and the service has always been top notch.

What this place has over other places is the large selection of menu options ranging from breakfast to dinner . What I like most is being able to catch a late breakfast . Food is great , prices are good , service is decent . Definitely give it a shot , this could end up being your go to place .

Very disappointed. They are not shy with their menu prices and the food was adequate at best. There was eight of us and two of the eight dishes we ordered could have been sent back to the kitchen. We will not be coming back.
Soup is always great. Blue burger is a winner every time. They have books and coloring material to keep the kids occupied. Only have it 4 because the wait staff was lacking this last time.

Worried about my elderly mother being overserved wine here based on experiences.
Friendly staff - our waitress had made some homemade pumpkin pie and gave us a taste of it after we got to talking. Solid diner fare.

Had the gyro platter from here and it wasn’t all that great. Service leaves much to be desired. Perhaps I caught them on an “off” day. Won’t be returning.
The continental restaurant is an excellent place to visit, I live in Seattle but every time I come home to Buffalo Grove I make a point of enjoying a meal at the continental restaurant, it brings back memories of when I was a child when they first build Ranch Mart Plaza they used to have pictures of the village when I was young, up but the way he changes things its always a refreshing visit.

Weve been going to the restaurant for a few years now, the food is good, but last time I came with a little child, that needed to use the bathroom, I have to say, I have never noticed how DIRTY the bathroom are, not the floors, but the toilets, there are black spots in the toilet bowls, I looked at all of them, and they all had them...........makes you wonder how clean the restaurant is.......this ruined out family breakfast....

As a local restaurant the food usually is pretty good and consistent. I do have to say that the few times I have been there sometimes the waitress staff and management seem to have attitude.

2022-03-29First timers, treated our friend to a birthday dinner. Excellent meal, generous portions. Only complaint is we waited an hour for our food. It was busy, I think they forgot to put the order in right away. Made up for it with a huge piece of complimentary chocolate birthday cake for the 4 of us to share. Will definitely go back - want to try breakfast next time

2022-05-20Hadnt been there in a long time. It was nice to go out to a sit down restaurant for a change. Many many choices on the menu. I went with the Monte Cristo sandwich. It was very good. They give you soup which is also great. We were not rushed at all. Me and a friend hung out there till they closed at 10pm.

2022-06-13Everything I’ve eaten there over the last several years has been Delicious!! The owner and staff are so friendly and always make us feel welcomed. This restaurant has everything you could want whether it’s for breakfast, lunch, or dinner…the dessert is awesome too!

2022-05-15Attempted to recreate a family photo here with a great grandchild at one of the slot machines one staff member was great and had no issue as we did not intend on being more than a quick moment with no intentions on gaming. Another staff member immediately interjected and asked for us to leave. We skipped eating here and decided to go down the road and had no issues. I respect the establishments decision to say no but the difference in direction between the two employees and the complete rudeness and unwillingness to show the slightest amount of respect from the second employee to any member of our party is why I must give this location 2 stars.

2022-07-09Great food and good service, extensive menu covering breakfast through dinner. Dont trust Google estimate of crowds, it is often way off, as it is today. Summer 2022 price increases of about 10-15% have pushed up some Burgers to $17 and the classic Skillets are mostly $15 now.

2022-03-17Came to the continental restaurant tonight. Had the corn beef and cabbage and split pea soup. It was so delicious! I want to thank Laurie, who was our server tonight. She took great care of us, made us feel right at home. Shes a fantastic server!

2022-05-22We love the more traditional restaurant atmosphere, and the food was delicious with ample portions. The highlight, though, was our server, AJ. He was so friendly and helpful, making sure we were doing ok without hovering or being obtrusive. The whole evening was relaxing and satisfying.

2022-03-06Peter runs a true small business.. but it is any thing but small.His personality is welcoming kind n always wants you to have a great experience.I have eaten their many times n always enjoyed everything.My favorite is the matzo ball soupWeshower there and Peter made sure everything was exactly what he promised in our meeting.It was done so nicely and he himself even went out of his way to make sure that he added a special touch from my daughter its not very often that you find a family owned business that is willing to make you feel like you are part of their family .highly highly recommend you go and eat therepromised Liz the young lady that runs the catering portion does a fabulous job of making sure that you have everything you need and is willing to go out of her way to make sure she makes it great
