Every time they have worked on our vehicles they are incredibly honest, competent, and kind. We wish we had found them sooner! I highly recommend The Auto Shop for all of your needs.
I brought my 2005 LeSabre into a nearby chain auto shop (which shall remain nameless) a few months ago requesting a general inspection before any potential Summer road trips. One brake job and barely a week later, it was at a local dealership for a different problem after shop #1 was unable to diagnose it. Shop #2 replaced one part and let me drive off the lot with SEVERELY erratic shifting problems, resulting in me literally turning around to bring my car back. Needless to say, this establishment also lost my trust in the process. So when my car started making noises shortly after I got it back AGAIN, I knew it was time to try another shop, and I decided on The Auto Shop after hearing some good things.I dropped it off after hours due to my work schedule as opposed to scheduling an appointment, and while the turnaround time was more than Im used to, this should come as no surprise considering the volume (and impressive diversity) of vehicles on the lot. I eventually received a text message with a link to an inspection checklist detailing items that passed, needed attention, or may eventually need attention. It was a bit of a shock to see all the items in red, especially since this sort of full summary is what I specifically requested from the first shop! Im not going to pretend to know jack about cars, but things like spark plugs, the serpentine belt, and transmission and brake fluid - all of which The Auto Shop alerted me needed replacing - all strike me as relatively standard things to look at when a customer requests an inspection of their vehicle. Had I known from the get-go that I was staring down the barrel of about $6k in repairs over the course of 3 months and 5 mechanic visits I would have just bought a new car, but thats my own problem for which the blame rests with shop #1.I went ahead and authorized repairs for the two items I brought it in for, plus a laundry list of minor items that aforementioned prior mechanics apparently never bothered to check. While the bill was hefty, about half of it was routine maintenance, and the itemized prices for parts and labor were all very reasonable. When I went to bail my car out, before accepting payment for their services, Kayla made it a point to mention that my spark plug wiring also needed to be replaced, resulting in a slight increase to the bill, and alerted me to an additional issue that may need addressed in due time.Holy cow. I dont think my car has ridden this smooth in years, and for the first time in quite a while I actually feel confident that it is in good working order. Ive never gotten an actual checklist from any mechanic before despite asking multiple shops for one, so the fact that The Auto Shop does this as a standard service was the best surprise I could have asked for. My only regret is that Ive been living in Carbondale for 6 years and have JUST now given The Auto Shop a chance.Thank you all for your work - Ill be coming back!
I paid for a front end inspection and they said it was going to be $2800. Didnt get my car back until 5 days later that promised and $1,000.00 over quote. Never again. Felt like I was scammed. 10 Days later: now and the clanking noise I orginally reported is back. Update 2. You didnt mention that I paid for a front end inspection which should have covered the other noise you uncovered after some front end work was done which then added $400.00 making the total almost $4,000.00. I still feel scammed.
The review is long overdue, but trust me when I say THE AUTO SHOP deserves every word I am typing! I found this shop by researching online, as I usually do when I am in a new place and dont know anyone who can make a referral. When I stopped by to inquire about if someone could fix the problems I was having with my car, I was immediately impressed with the homey atmosphere created just inside the doors of the shop. Its like walking back in time. Theres an eclectic mix of memorabilia scattered about and strategically placed. A few arm chairs a posted for customers to sit comfortably, and just to the left as you open the door is the desk, behind which sits the always smiling Jeremy. Here is where I should mention that this is a proud local family founded, owned, and operated business. The late Mr. Steve Rennison, the patriarch of the family, started The Auto Shop of Carbondale as a legacy for his family, and boy is it ever! Mother Marie Rennison and some of her children (Stephanie, Jeremy, and Jodie) carry on the legacy from her late husband. I was immediately greeted with professionalism and kindness, put on the schedule, and my car was back to me in no time. They have a shuttle service if you need it, and they are very great about communicating with you. One of the most impressive features to me, and one that I have never seen with any other auto shop, is an instant update on the process of your service as it is happening. It was not like I dropped my car off and then just picked it up and was told what they did later. Oh no! I got emails/texts stating what was found and was asked how I wanted to proceed. Boom! Real time customer service. On a personal note, the Rennisons represent something extra special to me. I have been battling illness for a while, and at the time I took my car in for service, it was becoming visible. They treated me with such kindness and sincerity at a time when I really needed it, especially being so far from family. When you own a business and can still be human behind the counter, thats really something. I have already sent customers to The Auto Shop of Carbondale, and if you have an issue with your car, I highly recommend you stop by and see them too. Tell them Kindra Speech sent ya!

This is my second time getting work done here. Very professional group, repairs are spot on as well as a run down of future work and reasoning. Don’t have much on pricing comparison but they do a really good job on explaining the parts/labor line items. I feel it’s been fair especially with the quality of work my car has received. Will be my go to shop so long as I’m in Carbondale.

We had moved from Central Illinois to Southern Illinois when our Highlander hit the 100,000 mile mark. I searched for a trustworthy and quality Toyota service provider and The Auto Shop certainly exceeded my expectations. I relied on them to be honest with me about what service the Highlander needed to keep it going another 100,000 miles. The service, advice, and technical knowledge they shared was all top notch. I really felt that even though the shop was extremely busy, they were giving me and my Highlander the individual attention and detail it needed. I highly recommend this family owned and managed business.

OMG...I love this place. I had to get service to my vehicle to drive to San Diego for an emergency. These guys gave me a baby T-shirt, they calmed me down and shared person family things they went through. Their customer service is just outstanding. They make you want to call them to just talk. ...that is just how comfortable I am with these guys and I just meet them for the 1st time. They worked overtime to help us get on the road and even gave us a discount. I loved the text updates and the communication between us My car has a forever shop home. From this point on, noone will ever be able to work on my car but the Auto Shop...thank you guys for everything!!!
After arriving in town to move my daughter to SIU my car shut down several times while driving. Not being familiar with shops in the area, I Googled reviews and brought my car to the Auto Shop. Recognizing my urgency they got me in right away to diagnose and then fix my car. They are friendly, quick, and I felt they were honest and fair with the cost of services. They went above and beyond by offering me a ride back and taking my to get coffee before dropping me off at my daughters dorm while I waited for the repair. I was able to get on the rode and make my 6 hour trek home before dark. I only wish they were in my town!
After a different shop tried and failed to correct my issue, brought it to The Auto Shop and they communicated well with me to keep me in the loop of their findings and estimates to correct the issue. My truck steering is now near new quality!!! Could not be more thankful for the professional top quality mechanics and staff at The Auto Shop! They have a new loyal customer with my family!!! This shop uses deceptive business practices, including reviewing their own business 5 stars.The quality of the repair was good other than it taking 4 business days to do 2.5 hours of work. I dropped my car off at 8:30am on Monday and it wasnt ready until 3:30pm Thursday. Despite that, I believe the technicians to be knowledgeable and professional.The the customer service however, was deceptive. I was not presented with pricing options, I was only given one price. I was told that the parts came with a guarantee from NAPA. I was not given any option to opt-out of purchasing what I later found out was a Premium add-on. When I got my bill I discovered that the cost of the part had a markup of almost 50% from what I could buy it directly from NAPA. When I called to bring this issue to the attention of the shop I was lied to. I was told that the price I could buy parts directly from NAPA would always be lower than the price that a shop could buy them from NAPA. NAPA gives discounts to shops for the parts they buy. So in actuality shops will ALWAYS be able to buy from NAPA cheaper than I can. So if I can buy the part for $179 retail, and the shop pays even less, than there is no way the shop should have listed the part cost as $319 on my bill. I also found out that I was lied to about the parts guarantee coming from NAPA. The service rep told me that the shop covers the guarantee and not NAPA, and that is why they charged me more so that they can make a living. Why would I want a guarantee for parts and service from a company I dont ever trust to touch my car ever again??... I hope this review helps people be better informed before paying for services from this shop. I had never been to this shop before and only did so because of the positive reviews. Obviously some people do have good experiences from here. Hopefully if you choose The Auto Shop in the future your experience will be better than mine.
Incredible customer service and overall amazing/friendly staff. Vehicle was fixed in a timely manner with great communication from the staff as well as technicians. I would 100% recommend this shop if ever in need of an auto repair.
The actual work that I wanted done (new tires and AC tune-up) was done well, but it took awhile to communicate that’s all I wanted done. The work order including things that I knew didn’t need repaired, and it appeared they were trying to pull a fast one on me. And then, I received an email claiming that my car was finished and after being dropped off to pick it up, learned that it was not done and there was a glitch in the system. Jeremy was nice and helpful to talk to, but I don’t think I’ll be going back.
Amazing service and repair!!! Found out one of my front calipers had seized, causing extreme wear on the rotor. Brake pads had also worn down and were shedding brake dust. Needed repair in 2 days, and they got it done! Gave me options for parts so there were cheaper options. Set up after-hours key pickup and remote payment options. Would absolutely go again!!! Definitely recommend.Support family-owned businesses! Theyre great!!!
WONDERFUL auto shop, I go here every time I need work done on my vehicle and they are incredibly kind, understanding, and helpful. I have never had a problem here and firmly doubt I will at any point. They are always on time with their repairs and will do their best to help you as much as possible. Family owned as well, a very important local establishment.
Engine service light came on. Called them on Friday to see if I can get an appointment. Told me they were all booked. Okay, no big deal. Left my email on their website for contact information. Called them on Monday seeing if I can reschedule for Tuesday. Lady told me to come by Tuesday around 12:30. Walked in, told me that I was not scheduled, and that all technicians are on their lunch. Asked about a diagnostic, could not even tell me how long that would take, but somehow I had to leave my car with them overnight. Guy at the counter, told me he called me...but I only left my email. Checked my email did not receive anything. Very unprofessional, I got in my car and went Midas. Midas ran a diagnostic in less than 15 minutes, and did not even charge me. I am new in town, and will not be using the Auto Shop for my automotive needs in the future.
This is my second time taking my car to The Auto Shop, and I am always so pleased with how fast and efficiently the staff work. They send frequent updates and communications about the status of the vehicle. I definitely recommend this business!
The staff at the front desk are very personable and kind when it comes to scheduling appointments and understanding pricing. The inspection with my oil change and tire rotation was very thorough, clear, and informative. Will be returning!
Misunderstanding on quote of brakes, when I took in my beater I assumed (my mistake) that I would get a quote for cheaper brakes not told a quote for top of the line of almost a thousand dollars on a car that isn’t worth that much. When he called he didn’t say 9 hundred and seventy dollars and one cent, he said what sounded like 97.01, so me thinking that was the cheapest brakes and the most logical for a car of this condition, miles and overall shape I agreed to it. I’ve never had an auto shop start at so called top of the line and work down on a vehicle of this condition and I’m a veteran and have been to many in various states. Why someone would think that a beat up vehicle that isn’t worth the cost of something like 1,000 dollar brakes, (if it was in for a new engine, or water pump and serpentine belt) it would be a little different but I didn’t pay that much for that to be done when that was replaced! Other than the miscommunication and poor choice on value of parts for the car, the staff was friendly and did a good job.

They were able to quickly and efficiently fix the couple of issues I had with my car, and when they found something else they called to tell me about it before fixing it. We set a budget when I first brought it in, and they stayed under it the best the could, and called me whenever they thought they wouldnt be able to. Customer service was great! They were able to always explain to me exactly what was going on with my car, what they were doing to it, and how soon it would be done. They even offered to drive my car up to under the awning, since it was raining when I came to pick it up!
It’s hard to find a mechanic that you trust. At the Auto Shop I trust them 100%. It’s a place that consistently delivers great, quality service at a very fair price. They do their best to explain the situation in simple terms. They are very knowledgeable. If they don’t know they will tell you, look it up, and follow up with you. I’ve been taking my car here for several years. I am hard on my vehicles, as I put 30k-60k miles on my car a year. But they ensure I can stay in the road. They have done everything from oil changes to head gasket replacement. Jeremy is always keeping an eye on the health of my vehicle so I’m not surprised with regular maintenance. The Auto Shop is the most professional autobody shop I have found in the Carbondale area! The high professionalism was a breath of fresh air. I was not expecting to be sent text messages updating me on my repairs. Not only did they do this, they sent me a text message with the inspection report for my vehicle accompanied with pictures so I knew what they were talking about. Jeremy was able to work around my hectic schedule for drop off and pick up, which was such a relief! To top everything off, the turn around on my repairs was astounding! I will most definately use them in the future and will recommend them to everyone I know!!
This is a quality shop with real quality people, They (Jeremy and Cody) came in on their day off to fix the air conditioning in our RV so we could proceed with our vacation, as planned. And fix it they did - in less than an hour and at a cost that almost left me feeling like we had had taken advantage of them. We are so grateful to these people for their kindness, dedication and expertise and we highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality automobile care/service. They are the best.
They were amazing we were out of town and down on luck me and my son driving from Clarksville tenn. to Carbondale Illinois and the mechanic in clarks vile pit part on backwards and did not tighten bolts and no carter pins with zip ties on top of that me and my son could have died these guys at the auto shop were all over it got us in as soon as possible was not at all a bad price if anyone has car problems bring it to these guys !!!……..the real mechanics!!!!

Had to have my car towed here after it wouldn’t start one random morning. I’m from out of town and have never had my car worked on in southern Illinois, so I didn’t know what to expect. The crew here is absolutely amazing. They went far and beyond to help me get all the required information from the mechanic back home, and went the extra mile to take care of me. The front desk is extremely friendly, and made me feel like I’d been taking my car there for years. My car won’t go anywhere but here from now on.
The Auto Shop provides amazing service! They have worked on every single one of my family cars – which means, they keep me and my family safe every single day of the week! 24/7/365 – Marie and her family are there, protecting me and my family. I have had my vehicles in their facility on several occasions – and they are great at explaining to me what needs to be done, how long it will take, and what it will cost. (And the cost is always competitive!) Further, since I see her monthly (I drive A-LOT) for my oil change, I am able to drop off my car prior to the start of a meeting and it is done when the meeting is done. I feel like a queen! They seem like nice people, but there is a big difference between being nice and providing good customer service. I dropped my car off for an appointment and they had it for over a day which I would have had no issue with. The strange part was that no one called me to let me know that they would not be able to get to my car the day of my appointment. I left my doors unlocked and the lot is in a pretty busy area, but thankfully no one broke into my car. I decided to pick my car up and take it to someone else and one of the representatives just lied and said that he told me it could take two or three days even with an appointment to get service. Once I told him he never said that, he came with an excuse saying they had a sick technician, which I would have understood if they called me and let me know they couldn’t get to my car. Then he basically told me I was being impatient in the nicest way he could. I am about 90% sure they just forgot about my car since they struggled to find me in their system two different times and magically I was the next car on the dock when I told them I was going somewhere else.
They are incredibly nice and hard working! They were able to get me in within a few hours of dropping off my car and were done within the same day for a battery/alternator replacement. They were also able to facilitate a towing for me, making it a one-stop call. Definitely would recommend (especially for those who haven’t had to use those services before).

This has to be one of the best overall businesses I have ever had the pleasure of being a customer at. This place is literally like my family, they treat me as if I am one of their own and are very helpful with all things automotive! They work very hard to get your car done as soon as possible and be sure that it is in top notch shape when it leaves their shop. They are incredibly trustworthy and will always be concerned with your safety as a driver and will never rip you off like some of the typical auto shop stereotypes that take advantage of people who dont know much about vehicles and run up the bill. I will always be loyal to this family and shop and highly recommend it to anyone who has car troubles or needs a tune up.
A fellow Veteran I serve on Honor Guard with works here, Brian Cleaver. He spoke highly of the place he worked at and Veterans always take care of other Veterans. The Auto Shop took great care of my 2003 Nissan Pathfinder. I really appreciated the report with images of the items I need to address with it. Low Pressure and didnt feel like I had to do anything I didnt want to. I depend highly on my vehicle and I was able to get it back in the same day.As a fellow small business owner, I also wanted to support a small business. Highly recommend The Auto Shop.

23 days $1000 air bag light is flashing wasnt prior. charged me for two bottles of degreaser engine still has oil from the vacuum pump, all over side and bottom of engine...the worst thing is I asked them to put on the visor on the passenger side..they broke the clip off that hides the screw cut a 1 1/2 inch in the liner and stopped...23 days...I feel for the ppl he said he put off to take care of us... has had their cars longer...stay clear...if you gonna charge dealership prices, I would expect the same quality..instead of shade tree work at dealership costs..if management would like to see the photos I would happily provide them..
$100 for an oil change and a headlight replacement. Told me my coolant was empty and my radiator was basically full of mud, and itd be another $100+ to fix both. Checked these myself when I got home and they were completely fine. Also took 4 hours for the oil change, but I walked in without an appointment on a busy day so this is understandable. Have to give 1 star for the scumminess, though.On the other hand, they have a nice shuttle service and the people are friendly.
I cannot recommend The Auto Shop enough! Jeremy and all the good folks at The Auto Shop treat you like family and go out of their way to make sure you are 100% completely satisfied. The technicians do a great job of making sure your vehicle is in top notch shape and if something is not right, they will fix it up and you can be confident in their expertise and knowledge of making sure it will get fixed correctly. I love the Auto Shop for their quality work and their outstanding customer service. My daughter was visiting this past weekend, and we discovered a problem with her car. The Auto Shop got her in right away Monday morning and fixed the problem quickly, so that she would have her car for the return trip to college. They will keep you up to date on their progress and do a great job of making sure you understand what theyre doing from start to finish. The mechanics are great, too, and do a good job at pointing out future maintenance early to help you avoid more serious issues down the road. Overall, theyre friendly, honest, and very considerate.

My cars engine failed while at the university, and had to go somewhere outside of my local shop at home. I checked a couple car shops online and ended up going with this one. I am very glad to have gone here, everyone here is extremely helpful and would always call and update me as the process of engine replacement went on. Jeremy was the one to help me with this adventure and he was such a great help. All in all, these guys can be trusted and are extremely helpful! I would 100% recommend this auto shop to anyone!

I was experiencing car trouble on my way to military training. They understood that I had to report at a certain time and they kept me very I informed about the whole process. They are always great, offer me rides for free and one time I broke down in Detroit and they referred me to a Napa Auto Care and part of the repair was covered due to a bad part! I love I have coverage no matter where I go! Stephanie is the best!
Excellent service overall. We have an older high mileage vehicle that is still giving us reliable service due to this shops maintenance. Sometimes the work estimates seem expensive because they have found additional but very real issues with our van. But this has always been repaid in reliability, safety and peace of mind.We have always received conscious quality service from The Auto Shop and they have caught some very real problems before they left us stranded somewhere. Its great to find a family owned business that takes such pride in their work.There are always cheaper places but you wont find a better shop or service than you get here.I recommend them to all my friends.

This is the second time I have been here for a repair and they have treated me like family each time. I moved her from a bigger city and it can be difficult to find a reputable mechanic that you can trust. This place is somewhere I can trust to take care of me and my vehicle. Jeremy is great and knowledgeable and treats his customers with respect. If I have issues in the future (car has around 200k) I will be back.
A shop of genuinely good people. Everyone is very friendly and offers great service. Pricing is always fair. I have had multiple things done here, ranging from simple brake servicing to lift kit installation. The techs are knowledgeable and quick. Great shop, with even better people working in it.
Jeremy and the gang are kind, helpful, and good at what they do. Ive been in multiple times and keep coming back because of those three things. They are busy-- thats because theyre the best option in the area-- but always seem to make time for all customers, somehow leave you feeling like yours is the most important vehicle of the day. It can be frustrating, for me at least, mechanics and dentists...unless youre an expert yourself, youre at their mercy in a way and you may not always like the diagnosis or prescription itself. I appreciate the Auto Shop very much, my car had an oil leak and not only did they fix that leak, they went in and did a complimentary diagnostic which made me aware of other issues with my car. They took pictures and gave me a link to a video which explained the issues and how it affected my cars engine.I love their professionalism.I told them that they are my new mechanics..lol
I have been the mechanic-in-chief for my daughters car, but when she went to college and I moved out-of-state, I had to have her start taking her car to The Auto Shop for repairs. Since I am also the financer-in-chief for these repairs, I have always spoken with them about the repairs. My experience with them has been great. They really go out of their way to explain the problems, the potential solutions, and associated costs. They have always obtained my prior authorization before starting a repair. Once when I was in town, they showed me the defective part, and where it had failed. I believe that they are straight shooters. For example, my daughters previous car had developed some really serious issues. They looked at it and discussed the matter with me, and advised AGAINST having them do the repair. They suggested that it would be more expensive than the car is worth. I know a lot of other shops would have just seen dollar signs. They deal with a lot of college kids (and their parents), and are sensitive to what that can entail. Theyve also helped with getting her rides back to campus when her car has to be worked on. I would recommend this shop to anyone. Its not easy having to deal with my daughters car problems from a couple states away, but having The Auto Shop involved has taken some of the hassle and worry out of the process.
Came in because I had a leak in my head gasket for my vehicle. Haven’t gotten it fixed for a while until I made my appointment at the auto shop. Everyone there was very polite and got me settled in with another appointment to get it fixed after ordering the parts needed. I was quoted a price I was happy with and when I got my vehicle fixed, they reduced the price of the original quote! Not only that, my vehicle is back in great shape. I’ll definitely be going to ‘The Auto Shop’ for any future issues!
My vehicle suddenly had a massive decrease in fuel economy. It is hard to find someone you trust to work on your car, but after looking at reviews I decided to give The Auto Shop a shot.Upon check in they were professional and explained everything to me. They also updated me to things they had found and asked approval to go ahead with those repairs. Previously I shared my experience with this business 2 days ago, and how I was displeased with the misunderstanding regarding how the quote was given to me over the phone. I also mentioned how I felt it was a mutual misunderstanding and took responsibility for my part and do feel that it wasn’t reciprocated! And honestly I don’t feel they take any of their negative reviews as constructive or try to better their business from them and if you took the time to read the negative reviews and then the response from the individual that “manages” them for this business I think you’ll see what I mean. Since my first review (opinion of this business) I can honestly say for the first time in my life that my opinion has been lowered even further! I received a call from this reviewer of their business and she wanted to try to sway my opinion and I guess make it right? The reason I’m questioning this is because she wasn’t clear and made it sound like they went out of their way to get my brakes done that day by bumping somebody else, so that somehow made it excusable for the exorbitant amount that was charged! Anyhow, I’m not sure how she makes this business better by doing follow ups, because there is clearly nothing that is intended to be positive from this and no attempt on their part to learn, grow or build from the reviews, it’s basically an attempt for them to try to justify and excuse the negative things that they do and will continue to do! It’s sad that there are so few family ran businesses nowadays that go the extra distance to build, grow and pass on a strong customer base due to loyalty, honesty and above all integrity, to the next generation and unfortunately this one isn’t going to be one of them either. I wish them the best!
Kept my car for multiple days, didnt update me or call with information, and seemingly did nothing but charged me $140.. My car had more issues when I got it back than when I dropped it off. I took it to another mechanic and they said they believed the shop sabotaged my fuses and unplugged one to create more costly issues.

POSTING AGAIN BECAUSE IT LOOKS LIKE MY REVIEW WAS REMOVEDWent here for years without any noticeable issues when getting things back. Prices were always high but I know no auto shop is gonna be fair priced.Then I took it in for the final time in march, during the height of the COVID pandemic. The day the state of illinois shut down and gave the stay at home order i went to pick up the car. I noticed they brought it around to the front and then took it back, then brought it around again and then pooped the hood and fiddled around it in before coming in and letting me drive off. I thought it was weird but i didnt think much about it much moreI got home and that day i went to start it agin and it wouldnt do anything. Tried giving it a jump but it didnt work. I was messing with the battery posts when i got a jolt.Turns out the terminals had been tampered with. The positive battery cable was just loosely attached to the battery, with shards of metal all around the connection.It was an easy enough fix and because that they thought that i was overreacting when i was upset about such a small problem that left me without a working car during the beginnings of a global pandemic. Of course they denied all responsibility, even though i know and they know what they did, whether it was a mistake or not.Since then I have had the car looked at by several mechanics and there is quite the list of curious small issues that looked to be caused be tampering or ignorance.DO NOT GO HERE. If you do or have, i guarantee there are other things wrong with car than what was repaired.
Having my car broken down 6 hours away from home was a scary thing, but I called The Auto Shop and Stephanie was SO helpful. She communicated with me the whole time and they got the problem solved for a reasonable price. If only I didnt live 6 hours away, otherwise I would recommend this place to all of my friends.

My truck with over 200,000 miles was having major suspension problems. The mechanics gave me a very reasonable quote for the work to be done. It turns out that the suspension was so badly rusted after nearly a quarter million miles that it took them 2 1/2 days of hard work to finally get all the work done. Despite the job being far more work than they expected, they not only stayed with the original quote, they actually charged me $100 less than they originally quoted. The number of car mechanics I have met that I can truly trust I can count on the fingers of one hand and have several fingers left over. The folks at The Auto Shop will never rip you off, their prices are very reasonable, communication is good and they are truly honest folks which is a rare quality nowadays.Roger Pirtle

We have had some bad experiences here. Most recently, they broke our drivers seat while doing a brake job so it was frozen as far back as possible, then charged us to fix what they broke. They claimed to give us a deal on the labor to fix it, but it was still several hundred dollars including the replacement seat (inferior to the original seat) and several hours of labor. We will go elsewhere from now on.
You will NOT be disappointed with their knowledge of of auto repair. Foreign or domestic, their work is thorough and complete. Customer service is way above any other shops standards. They actually care if youre satisfied with a follow-up call.
I was in a really tight spot Thanksgiving weekend, I was certainly thankful for this place. I am military and I was moving to San Diego when my engine blew. Unfortunately, my car was not worth the money to get the engine replaced nor did I have the time to get it done. The Auto Shop loaned me a car to get around for the weekend and told me were everything was in town. They not only helped me in a stressful situation but bought the title of a basically totalled vehicle. If I wasnt just passing through I would make this my go to mechanic any day. We have a Volkswagen Jetta that is old and expensive to repair. It had a diesel fuel leak. We were quoted about $400-$500 at other shops for the repair but the auto shop repaired it for under $200. They got us in quick and their customer service was amazing. We will definitely be returning in the future.
The worst experince I have ever had!It was horrible!They charged me for 190$ to fix the wiper and fill up the AC, and the only thing they did was filling up the AC! They had a 80$ labor fee for doing nothing! When I complaind they threatend me that they can intentionally keep the car during the weekend!I did the same thing last year for the AC and they charged me only 40$!They gave me hard time.Please do not work with them!
I would highly recommend you take your vehicle to The Auto Shop if your having issues. I have visited a couple different mechanics in Carbondale and the good people at The Auto Shop gave it to me straight and went through different payment options to help me keep my car on the road. They are definitely trustworthy and do good work.

Dont use this place they wasted my 7000 in cash 2000 on truck an a little over 5000 in repairs not done right . I just bought my truck 2 weeks befor they got it Shocks was put on my new truck wrong my leafsprings in rear crack into two. My front lefth tire came off going down road 70 miles an hour affther new shocks an eaxsoust was put on as well as new break lines I would not recommend this shop even if it was last place on earth they dont want to clame any wrong or responsibly for thier actions an will flat out lie to ur face new eaxsoust is even comeing apart an now its cracked manifold since my shocks are on wrong. andrew young.
Great. Everyone I met there was super friendly and accommodating with me and my young son. They were happy to answer all my questions, gave us a ride, gave my son toys to play with, and they hooked me up with a same-day repair because I was from out of town. Im very grateful for their services.
I've been going to the auto shop for years and I have nothing but good things to say! They may not be the cheapest by any means, but they are friendly, honest and I trust them with my car - for anything from an oil change to a brake job - which to me is worth every penny. I have never ever felt that creepy mechanic vibe there- and hey, no one likes to hear what the "damage" is when your car needs work but Jeremy as the front desk is always happy to take his time and patiently explain what's going on and exactly what I'm paying for and why. The Auto Shop family is truely a shining example of what an honest American "mom and pop" business should be!

Went to the auto shop a couple of weeks ago to fix a broken turn signal. Not only was I in and out within an hour, they charged me half of what I expected to spend. Needless to say I will absolutely be taking my car there in the future and I would recommend other people do the same.

I made an appointment at 10:00 and told them I was not dropping off the truck but waiting for it, when I got there at 10:00 they said they couldnt get to it until 1:00 so I came back, that was my first mistake. I was getting an alignment, so I walked down the street, they called me and said I needed a new inner tie rod end and it was going to be an additional $130 to $180 depending on the quality of the part I chose to use, I asked how much of that was labor and they said $67, which means the part was $63 to $113. I told them to wait and I would call back. I went to OReillys and bought a new part for $23, brought that to them and asked them to put it in. They told me they couldnt do that but they all of a sudden had one for $34 it just wasnt a Napa part, which is what they recommend so I went that route. After I gave them the go ahead they said it would be an additional 2 hours so I had some time to kill, I went to Napa and priced their tie rod ends, they run from $20 to $40. For anyone keeping tract thats a markup of 180% to 215% and thats if they dont get a discount from Napa. I was ok with the $67 labor, even though once its on the rack its a 15 minute fix at best, Im even ok with a little mark up but that is just ridiculous. I was calm and paid my bill and left but I assure you I will tell everyone I know about this and write as many negative reviews as I can so nobody else gets screwed as bad as I did.

Tried to scam me the first time I went there. Said that I needed urgent repairs and my car was going to break down and or kill me. Drove for a while after and nothing was wrong.Took it somewhere else who told me that there was barely anything wrong.

Second post: In addition, they didnt check the AC So when my daughter tried to turn on the AC a couple of months ago...nothing. We have spent the last two months taking it to different shops to figure it out....bad relay. This is something that should have been checked when the car is in for electrical work.First Post: They fixed a blown fuse and installed a battery...but didnt notice or say anything about the navigation system and amp not working at all (blown fuses as well).

Never taking my car here again, had them look at something I already knew was wrong and they charged me over $100 for it and didnt tel me there was a charge. I would never expect anything to be free, but $100 to diagnose something that I ALREADY knew was wrong is ridiculous.

I was in Carbondale and I noticed that my brakes were squeaky. I was worried that they might not be working right. I took my vehicle to The Auto Shop and they took care of me! I would recommend them to everyone!
I was very disappointed that I had to pay 93.00 for a misdiagnosis. I installed a timing belt kit myself, and the car runs just like it did before bringing it there. It didn’t need a valve job as I was told.

2022-01-13Friendly, courteous, timely, and efficient are a few of the keywords I would use to describe the fantastic service at the auto shop. I towed my car in after having some electrical issues, and they were able to get it fixed for me, while explaining every stage of the process, and in multiple ways to ensure my full understanding before proceeding. There is no other car shop in Carbondale I’d recommend to anyone, regardless of vehicle manufacturer.

2022-02-28Dec 2021 Ultimately I didnt get my car fixed here just due to the timing, its a very busy season. However I did want to leave a comment about their customer service. I got my car told here over the weekend and first thing Monday morning they called and let me know how and when they would be able to look at my car. The person that I spoke to was very professional and polite. He was extremely helpful and kind. Oftentimes getting your car fixed can be extremely stressful, and theres a built-in distrust for auto shops however I felt very comfortable with them. Even when I decided to move my car to another shop today were very nice and helpful. Update 2/28/2022 after taking my car somewhere else and having a defective Park place Tacoma returning to that place to get a new part under warranty I decided to take my car back to the auto shop to get all of the work that they discovered in my diagnostic done. The service was a touch slow, but outside of that I thoroughly enjoyed my experience dealing with this company. Stephanie and Jeremy are so knowledgeable and helpful. I feel comfortable paying for the work because of their competence. It gave me confidence in their product. So far my car has been riding like a dream. They stayed in communication with me so I knew where it was happening with my car and I received text updates.

They diagnosed the problem and finished it ahead of schedule-as a matter of fact, they finished 2 days BEFORE my scheduled appointment! Great job Jeremy!!

2022-02-28I am a student at SIU and was looking for a place to bring my car after my brakes gave out one day, and I had my car towed to this shop. they were extremely helpful given the fact that I did not have a scheduled appointment. they were very patient and thorough, they kept me informed on the progress of the repair and they did a general inspection of the car and informed me of possible issues that may arise at a later date. their strong suit is definitely keeping customers informed as they reported issues and provided pictures as well for a better understanding of said issues were. I personally felt like it took a bit longer than I am used to for the repair to be complete, however if you have patience they will get the job done correctly. they have fair pricing for the work and for anyone in the Carbondale area that needs a shop they can trust I would recommend the auto shop to them. also my car was lowered about 1.5-2 inches from stock height and they had no problems working on it.

I was told the starter cost $900 and had to be ordered as they could not find the part anywhere.I called a dealership in Marion that readily had the part ($500) and quoted me $650 to replace the starter, inspection and labor- which is the price I paid.Needless to say I paid for the inspection they performed ($78) and took my business elsewhere. I will not be returning.

2022-06-28I feel very conflicted about my experience at the Auto Shop. When I first called them, I told them how my insurance would be helping with the repairs. They did not write this down, and told me I did not tell them. This upset me very much.Next, they did an inspection where, not unlike any other auto shop, they found about a million things wrong with my car, when I just needed one simple repair. Another very frustrating thing.The pricing is pretty insane. The one example I have is they told me a need a new serpentine belt. (I dont think I do, I think they just want me to spend more money.) They wanted me to pay 400 for a new belt and labor. This is crazy. I can get it done at other auto shops for 140, or 100 dollars. (Yes, I verified this with other shops.)The 2 things I have positive to say is that the people there are pretty nice and the work done seems to be of very good quality. So it is up to you. Are you willing to pay exorbitant prices and ride the people there making sure they understand what you need while fending off a ton of unnecessary repairs to get decent repairs done to your car? I dont know.Edit: I took my car to my home shop, with someone who has never wronged me. They saw all the repairs made and said they were good. However, they checked all the other advised repairs and only 1 of 10 recommended repairs that i deferred were necessary. I specifically asked them to check the serpentine belt, and they used a tool to gauge the lifespan of the belt and it showed it wasnt even close to needing repair yet. I feel pretty duped. Once again. I find their work to be sound, but they will try to work on everything they can justify with wear and age rather than necessity. Just keep that in mind.

2022-07-08I appreciated the work they did on my car, but was a little disappointed that they were deceptive with how long it would take (took three extra days). Their excuse was how hot the shop was - maybe get an air conditioning unit if it is going to impact the work so much? How long have they been working in southern IL, they should know how hot it gets in the summer. They also try to talk you into paying for things you don’t necessarily need.

2022-06-15My daughters car broke down in Carbondale, which is 5 hours away from our home. We found The Auto Shop through a Google search and she left the car there since it was after hours. She called them first thing in the morning and they were able to fit her car into their busy schedule. The car needed a new alternator. They ordered the part and put it in as soon as they could. Jeremy was amazingly patient, kind and understanding with her being a 20 yo college student. He explained everything thoroughly and fixed her car promptly. Thanks to the team at The Auto Shop for getting my stressed out kid with a broken car in a strange place back on the road. I recommend 100%

2022-06-16My experience with this company is very good.They get your vehicle in and get to the root of the problem, then contact you and let you know what is going on with the vehicle. Then ask you what you want them to do.I searched all over trying to find a place to work on my Porsche. Its a 1983 and they took it in and done the job on it . If you are looking for a good places to work on your vehicle give them a try and see how you like it .
