Love going here. Good price for all you can eat sushi. I go often and the hostess greets me kindly every time and always remembers my usual drink and appetizer orders. Joseph is a great sushi chef, very friendly with everyone, and even remembers what some regular customers get so when it gets super busy hell go out of his way to make sure they get something they usually get, and when its slow hell check to see if they want something specific that isnt on the sushi boats.
Very good all you can eat sushi and they come around on a traditional belt type style but with a twist. It is presented on wooden boats that float around in the water. Price is about $25 per person. Wide selection of both rolls and sushi with egg rolls and pot stickers thrown in the mix. You can order stuff that is included right from the chef if you dont want to wait on the random items. Waitress/hostess is very nice and regularly checks up on you without having to get her attention. Would recommend
Been going here once a week for at least 5 years. The quality of fish is consistently high.If you dont know much about sushi or are a bit picky, talk with the staff! They go above and beyond trying to make sure you have a pleasant experience. Also worth noting, the weekday lunch special for the all-you-can-eat is a great deal.
First visit. Staff is warm and friendly. Sushi is good. Had better in Chicago, but dont expect the same culinary quality around here. No big deal; the sushi here is still much better than whats offered at Chinese American buffets in the area. Definitely coming back for more.
By far the worst sushi and sushi experience my boyfriend and I have ever experienced in our whole lives. I don’t know how this place is in business let alone has any 5 star reviews. We were there for a total of 15 min. I asked for a fork for my salad and I never got it. There was little to no sushi on the “boats” that went around. One plate of sushi came around that wasn’t a California roll. Most were balls of rice that tasted horribly. I also have been feeling sick since eating here.We ended up leaving after being there 15 min and eating a few pieces and were charged full price ($55). I would’ve rather had sushi from Mariano’s or Woodmans than this place. If you want good sushi go across the street to Sushi Grove. We will never be going here again, ever again... even if it were the last sushi place near Buffalo Grove.
I really like it here. Especially for AYCE, quality is excellent. Lots of regular customers, you can tell that the sushi chefs have a good familiarity with the regulars and what they like. They will make you pretty much any roll you want, very few things are extra. Fresh made to order spring rolls, dumplings, and red bean ice cream all included. Ive always been happy here.
Very good sushi at a good price. Buffet style allows one to eat their fill. The wait staff is nice and the sushi chefs are responsive to requests and work hard to keep the boats stocked with a veriety of good choices. A great place for lunch or dinner with friends or colleagues.
My absolute favorite all-you-can-eat sushi restaurant. Novel presentation as plates constantly circulate on floating sushi boats. Requests are taken, most are free, some require a slight upcharge. The service is amazing, I feel like family whenever I visit. Its a great place for decent sushi.
I was impressed by the value. Casual and enjoyable atmosphere. The sushi was all tasty and fresh and occassionally a bit spicy. There was a good variety of rolls and a limited variety of sushi, but everything I tried was good. No sashimi and not a top of the line menu, but that wasnt the point. The floating all you can eat was fun. The staff was very friendly. I look forward to coming here again.
Good sushi restaurant. They utilize the little floating boat service to deliver your food, and the all you can eat selection is pretty good. Might be a little more expensive than some of the other all you can eat sushi place in the area, however. But they will take requests if you dont see something on the boats that you would like. The staff is friendly and service good.
The atmosphere is nice and the sushi conveyor is pretty neat. Sushi is made in front of you and placed on a boat that moves around the island. You just grab the plates that you want for as long as youre hungry. There are quite a few different kinds of sushi and the chefs will make anything from the menu at your request. They also offer miso soup and salad. Lunch price is ~25 dollars including a soft drink. For what you pay, and the fact that its a la carte, the sushi is pretty tasty. Wait staff is friendly as well. Thoroughly enjoy dining here
I LOVE the all you can eat sushi boats!! Really a great atmosphere, and the service is always great. For the price you pay, you get a lot of sushi. Try to go a bit later in the evening and not right at opening. The more people that are there, the more variety you get in the sushi dishes.
We felt very welcomed from the greeting. The staff was friendly. We decided on the dinner buffet because we saw the value in it. We eat sushi at least 2x a month. This place ranks with the best, in terms of quality and freshness! I was very pleased with the variety too. Everything came on the sushi boats floating around the bar which added a touch of whimsy that our kids really enjoyed. A small neighborhood gem we wish we had discovered sooner.
This place has been on our list to go for some time as its very near.Experience is fun but your neighbors are a hit or miss as you literally sit next to them. You may meet some interesting crowd as well as ones who share too much against your will. They also have separate tables if you want to order off of a traditional menu.Food was as expected in such dining experience. Not too much nigiri style but more Western types of roll. The rice was a bit overcooked and flavorless to be called sushi rice.Service was friendly and fast and with knowing what to expect for 25 dollars all you can eat, I definitely got my money out of it.
One of my favorite places to eat sushi at! Their staff is so welcoming, friendly and attentive. The owner is also very nice & always makes new tasty rolls for me to try! For $27 AYCE, everything that’s included is not a bad deal at all! You can pick and choose what you want and that’s what I like about them! I like that you visually get to see what’s coming around and if you find it interesting you can just grab it. This place is a hidden gem. If you’re reading reviews but haven’t been there yet, JUST GO! Don’t even think about it 🙂
Any Sushi restaurant that demands all you can eat is a bad idea from the get go. Especially one in an empty mini mall setting. If I hadnt had a hungry family in tow I wouldve turned on heel and fled.25$ per adult is a ridiculous fee to charge for very little sushi selection. We were even told certain sushi was Not available for the buffet price. The sushi was mediocre at best. Some of us ordered the very over-priced ala carte items off the menu. The fish was definitely far from fresh. And anyone who had eaten it that night had stomach cramps afterward. Bottom-line: Not worth the money when there are way better sushi places nearby. Steer clear!
Love this sushi place. Got the big bar with floating boats around it, and little plates with 2-3 pieces on each. Personally, I love the fact that I can grab a bunch of different roll styles without having to order a 10-piece roll every time, like in other all-you-can-eat sushi places. Quality of sushi is also amazing, fish is fresh, and other items on the menu are great too - miso soup, gyoza, edamame, etc.
I love this place! Its a little bit expensive, but well worth it The sushi variety is great, its all you can eat, and everything is really fresh and nice. Atmosphere is relaxed and the service is perfect- they check in with you without being in- your- face. Very highly reccomend this place.
Absolutely amazing. Ive never seen anything like it. The floating boats of sushi and side dishes take the all-you-can-eat sushi model to the next level. All dishes are prepared freshly in front of you and placed on a wooden boat. Then, you may grab whichever catches your fancy as they float by.
At the first moment you come to that restaurant the stuff gives you an enjoyable feeling. Very warm hosts, it is a kind place to enjoy with friends or with your date. yummy meals, qualified chief cook and stuff, competitive price and professional service. Highly recommended.
Went for lunch on a Monday and did the All-You-Can-Eat floating boats bar. The food was delicious, the boats were constantly filled with more options, and our waters were never empty. We left completely satisfied and hoping to come back. Also, the womens restroom was the cleanest restaurant bathroom I have ever seen.
Used to love this place, literally visited at least once a month. (average 1 to 3 times a month, sometimes even twice a week)Until the server there (older asian lady) started forcing a mandatory tip of 18% every. single. time.Every time I went, even if they were busy and the service was bad I left a 15% tip. But to force a mandatory tip for two people is ridiculous to me.Also, her service became abysmal because she was forcing the mandatory tip anyways so she didnt seem to care much about service.Im not sure if the boss knows or not, and I probably should have asked him personally first, but I dont want to give her any more tips so Im just not going to go.Complaints aside.20 dollars for lunch25 dollars for dinnerthey give you ice cream after.owner is really nice, service is the issue.
I used to come here all the time. One of my absolute favorite sushi places I love chef Joseph he is always so kind but the waitress who works there the korean lady charged mandatory tip at the end of my meal the last time I was there. I didnt get an explanation before being sitted that there would be such charges nor was I with a big party of people (which then I wouldve understood a mandatory tip charge) it was just me and my boyfriend. We were planning on giving her tip anyways but after our meal she bought the check and told us we had a mandatory fixed amount of tip we had to pay that was her only explanation. My bf was really upset but we paid for the food and the tip she put in and left. I dont know if Joseph is aware of his waitresses actions but seeing previous reviews I see we are not the first people she has done this to. Its sad to see him lose buisness over one workers poor choices but I can not bring myself to go back to support that kind of behavior.
There is not a all-you-can-eat menu or signs with the ingredients so the only way to identify what is in the rolls is to try and eyeball it.That being said, if you like every type of sushi this is the place to go. If you are particular about certain types of fish or ingredients this might not be the place for you.
My wife and I come here twice a month. You cant find this kind of quality sushi for such a low price anywhere else. They dont pack their rolls with rice like a lot of other all you can eat sushi places do. The owner is also the sushi chef and he is always there making the sushi, so he cares about the quality of every roll. We no longer can eat sushi anywhere else. We hope this place never goes away
The Taste of Tokyo is like no other sushi buffet I have been to. Where else can you get instant gratification and not even have to get up. Just reach in front of you and it is there. The downfall is the quality. The fish is clearly not the freshest around. The very rectangular cuts make me believe it was frozen at some point. After the meal, I think my insulin levels spiked to levels higher than seen before. Taking the price point into consideration, the dinner buffet is not the best deal around and for a few bucks more, you can go to Ginza and get more than just sushi and rolls.
Upon arriving we were greeted by a fantastic hostess/server. she offered the unlimited boat buffett (great option!) OR dine in with the regular menu. We choose the unlimited buffet and were fasanated we love everything on the boats plus the server brought out another menu with even more options included in the unlimited boats! Miso soup is to die for i had 2 bowls! Recomend this place for sushi.
This afternoon was my first time visit. I passed on the sushi boat buffet and ordered the Chirashi lunch meal directly from the menu. Although the fish was fresh, the cuts were very thin and I was very disappointed to find a bone in one of the pieces. Before I left, I expressed my disappoint to my waitress regarding the fish bone and that water or hot tea was never offered or delivered to my table during my meal. It so happens that my waitress was the owner of the establishment! Upon paying for my meal at the register, I struggled with even leaving a tip and the owner acknowledged that it was not necessary. Needless to say, I will not return.
I honestly cannot find a flaw in this resturant. The atmosphere is quaint and pleasent. The staff is absolutly a 10 out of 10. They were polite, attentive, and fun. The sushi was outstanding, I am embarrassed to say Im pretty sure I tried everything and did not find anything I did not enjoy. I will without a doubt be returning.
I love eating here and everyone is extremely friendly, the only reason I can not give it 5 stars is because I can’t bring my son with me. One of the waitresses is so in his face we can’t even enjoy our meal. I understand that she likes children, but she will not stop touching him and trying to feed him (he has many food allergies and sensitive skin) I have asked her to stop and it just continues. So maybe think about getting a sitter before you go. Unless you don’t mind someone reaching over you to feed and touch your child’s face after they were just wiping down the tables.
It was our first time here and we came during the weekday. They werent very busy. I really enjoy the little boats with sushi going around. Sometimes its a few hours old and doesnt taste as fresh. There wasnt a huge selection on the boats. And many of the boats were empty.I wish there would of been a list, so people know what is on the AYCE menu. Many of the options I asked for were not on the AYCE menu, and pretty much every place I go to for AYCE had those options.I had a hard time getting the waitress attention. I had to ask her many times for more water, extra utensils for other members in our party, and she would forget constantly. I had to ask for the bill 3 times. When we got the bill and it was time to tip here, we did tip, but when she realized it wasnt enough, she turned cynical and cornered us for more money. I thought that was very unprofessional and rude. After making us feel uncomfortable, she began to talk to another co-worker in Korean and pointed at us. I dont speak Korean, but Im pretty sure she was talking down on us.Im sorry that she didnt expect a $10 dollar tip, but 10% was more than fair for the service we received from her. I hope my next time there will be much better, I will have to try going there on a weekend.
Delicious, all you can eat sushi! A more personal take on Sushi Station, the dishes are paraded in front of you on small, flat boats, floating in a trough of water. The sushi is made right in front of you. One thing to be aware of, they close for a few hours mid-afternoon.
I sent my friends to this place with my warmest recommendations. I visit this place often. I get very good feedback from my friends. The the cooking is tasty and the stuff is generous and cooperative. Whenever we eat in this place we pass a cheerful time. I recommend this place with pleasure.
This review is being made even though we did not eat here. The staff was welcoming and friendly. They no longer have the all you can eat option, due to covid precautions. However, the quality of their staff reflects the quality of their food. I still recommend this restaurant and will be back again once they AYCE options again.

2021-07-26We have been going to Taste of Tokyo for over 6 years, It’s sad that it took us so long to discover this place. It is our favorite sushi around here. Their hospitality and customer service is what sets them apart. The sushi is always fresh and delicious. They have rolls for everyone! When my wife was pregnant, she craved ToT and they accommodated us with her special dietary needs. She ate rolls like sweet potato, shrimp tempura, and other specialty items Joseph was able to create. Some of our favorite rolls over the years have been Illinois Roll, Sweet potato, Green dragon, Crazy roll, New Orleans, Spicy scallop, super white tuna nigiri, and crawfish nigiri!ToT is always in our carry out/dining rotation!

2022-05-28Was actually surprised by this place. It did not look too appealing inside. But when we ate the food, it was actually very tasty! The waitress was also so kind and very attentive. Took my kids and they enjoyed the food as well. Very good night out. 👍

2022-03-06Best sushi and sashimi place in Buffalo Grove! We ordered nigiri, sashimi, and couple rolls and oh my🥰 everything we ordered were so delicious and fresh! It’s hard to find fresh sushi in midwest unless it’s a super fancy/expensive restaurant (still their sushi might not be fresh). We love their Sashimi Delux. We always order California roll for our 4 year old and usually most restaurants don’t put a lot of “love” into California rolls because it doesn’t contain fish and it’s cheapest + easiest to make. But this place, you can tell that the chef treats all his food and orders equally!!The owner and chef were very friendly, welcoming, and lovely, which is always a plus.

2021-09-07Whos Queen there was no one there Im sure they were close to closing. I had been there many years ago way before Corona and I couldnt remember the name of the item because the Godzilla that they had has a eel in it and I dont think I like you but when I got it home after Id already ordered the gentleman arrested I should try it but I did have to pay for it thats why I left the price at 50. Cuz I had already ordered a roll so I left that off the total price when I rated it. Overall its a good experience but the the sashimi order wasnt quite right. And its not worth giving them any trouble for but it takes away lunch. Definitely good food probably better idea when the coronavirus go away 2 dine in in the meantime doordash work but you never get it quite right either.

2022-07-08They dont have all you can eat or the sushi boats anymore.
