OMG! They have SOLD THEIR BUSINESS!!!I had to spend over $68 bucks, getting very bad Chinese food to find this out, after I called to complain.I was told, by the high school kid at the gate that the new, venture capitalist owner, was unavailable!My complaints, no indication anywhere of new owners, every receipe has changed to cheaper ingredients(teriyaki beef stick, once my fav, sucked! No flavor, NOTHING) The egg rolls were flavorless and they changed the hot mustard sauce from a Horseradish based heat to a much cheaper and smaller packaged, jalapeño based heat that stays on the palate!!! Terrible, if I wanted Mexican food I would ordered Mexican food! The beef and shrimp, waterchestnuts peapods sucked, flavorless, canned gravy!Overall Im sorry to say, after twenty plus years of good Chinese, and an old fashioned chinese dinner treat, the last time I ordered from Szechwan Palace was last time, regrettably.......🌶
Im not a new customer and Ive lived in Antioch my whole life and have always enjoyed and HEAVILY recommended this restaurant. After doing some research they have been bought out by someone else and hence have changed almost everything on the menu and in my opinion tarnished a cornerstone of Antioch cuisine. I have given it the benefit of dought three times now. This last purchase was the final straw, I ordered Chow mein and received what I can best describe as a bowl of ingredient soup, there was not not a SINGLE noodle and it was filled to the lid in greese/oil. I ORDERED CHOW MEIN NOT SINK SLOP! WILL NOT RETURN AND ADVISING EVERYONE NOT TO GO UNTIL I HEAR OTHERWISE. PURE DISCUST.Edit: Automated response very nice! Also when I saw there was not a single noodle I meant it...... I ate my soup in disappointment knowing I was taking a chance giving you my money for a third time. If you see this, NO I will never be returning I gave you three chances with time to make amends in-between. The food from before you owned it was far superior in taste and presentation. I wish you luck in your business but none-the-less the crypto advertising fortune cookies tasted better then the slop I was served three times over.
Do yourself a favor and just skip ordering from here, its gone from bad to worse. Read the other reviews and youll find the same problems other have had.So we ordered 4 LG meals plus 2 orders of egg rolls so lil over $50.00. We get there and they gave our food to the person who picked up food B-4 us so had to wait for them to make ours, no big deal. We get all the way home only to find out two of the meals they cooked were wrong, so I run back, wait again, come home and they gave us one order of white rice for 3large meals. Come on now!! It seems they cant get it right no matter what.We ordered wonton soup previously one time it was wontons in warm water there was no color and no flavor to the broth. The next time we ordered it the water was warm slightly yellow, and taste like they put a salt lick in it. I love salt and thought maybe it was just me, had other taste, and they said it was Soo bad it made their eyes water. Im just DONE
Ordered Sunday shrimp chop Suey and chicken fried rice, never had carrots in chop suey I understand good cost are high but come on fillers in your food makes it taste different also I have never had dark meat in any of my Chinese ( chicken fried rice) food it changes the taste profile food used to be great now it’s ok and the price is up need to get better or lose your customers

I would recommend this location over the one in Richmond. I know there were some issues in the past two years with food quality, but they have really turned it around. I live about an hour away and whenever I am in the neighborhood I stop off for some carry out!
This used to be a great place, even a couple weeks ago, but tonight my food was not as good as it used to be. I’m really disappointed, since I’m a regular who goes there weekly. I ordered chicken cashew nut, and it didn’t taste at all like it always had, plus has vegetables that aren’t normally in it, like green peppers. It was very flavorless, as was the egg roll. The crab Rangoon was sweet, and it used to be savory. Found out they changed owners Feb. 1; clearly, the new owners didn’t retain the old recipes. Looks like I’ll have to find a new go-to Chinese place…
Worst Chinese take out we’ve ever had! Kung Poa chicken didn’t have any vegetables and very few peanuts, the flavor was horrible, the ribs were very tough, and the egg rolls had shrimp in them!! I knew the flavor was off but until I got the big chunk I wasn’t sure what it was. I DO NOT eat seafood but thank GOODNESS I am not allergic!!
Definitely won’t be going back to this restaurant. The fried rice has NOTHING but the shrimp I ordered w it. So it was just rice w shrimp period. The Szechwan prawns was nothing like the picture and it was suppose to have fresh broccoli that’s why I ordered it and it ended up having NO broccoli. I called and she tried to argue w me that it had to have a couple pieces in the bottom and it had NONE. I ordered the egg rolls and they have like cinnamon not good at all. The chicken teriyaki on the stick was so dry and not eatable. It was a choking hazard. The lady in the phone was so rude since the beginning for no reason. I rather drive to RoundLake to Long Feng better food and highly recommend.
Very disappointed in our most recent order. Everything was bland, fried rice was missing veggies, pad thai was drenched in sauce as if too compensate for lack of flavor in the rest of the dish. Sadly we won’t be ordering again.
I have never complained about any restuarant like ever. Unfortunately this place is trying to work at beingthe one restaurant in the area that wishes to lose it past customers. Food tasted terrible, bland and tasteless one of the dishes fried egg rolls were saturated with grease. No more room to complain
Was our favorite chinese restaurant for almost 30 years. Has been going downhill since original owners sold 5 years ago. Now the new owners are working hard to bring back the old Szechwan. Just went there for lunch, great service and food!
PLEASE BRING BACK SZECHWAN!! My family and I have been going here for 20 years. Best Chinese food in the whole world. New owners changed all the recipes why is it still Szechwan palace???????? This ain’t it don’t put that on Szechwan’s name. This should not be allowed ;( RIP

Before I would rant and rave to everyone I knew that this was the best Chinese restaurant I have ever ate at. Now the new owners are changing recipe and food is terrible in comparison. They were really busy to night so I will give them the benefit of the doubt. I will try it one more time and that will be the last chance.
Been living in Antioch for 2 years now have been to the chesquan palace many many times Mostly fantastic. Went there tonight they have new owners do owners and the food was extremely disappointing all the way around.
Im shocked at the negative reviews. Please dont listen to those negative reviewers (Im suspecting some hate toward Asian restaurants going on due to the virus). Weve ordered from Szechwan Palace for 10+ years and within those years we have only had 2 issues, both of which were addressed and resolved by the owner. They are very friendly! Ive asked for extra wontons in my soup on my birthday and during a difficult time, asking for them to charge me the extra as deemed appropriate. Guess what they did? Provided that and with a special note to me in English and Chinese, which cheered me up beyond belief. They have a big menu with so many options to choose from. There is literally something for everyone to enjoy. The food is delicious and if you order delivery, the food is always delivered hot. They strive in not only quality in Asian cuisine, but also customer service. Please do give them a try!

The most horrible Chinese food weve ever tried.The place itself looks disgusting especially kitchen (doors were opened). Only 2 of 5 employees in kitchen weared masks, the rest didnt.Would never go there again, would not recommend this place for everyone.
I soooooooo enjoyed my shrimp fired rice and shrimp egg fu young!! IT WAS DELICIOUS. The kind I remember from China town in the 60s-70s. I havent found this deliciousness in forever. So happy!! Great Job! I will be BACK for more.
Evidently there are new owners, a new cook, something! Food quality is not the same. We used to drive 40 minutes to pick up, well be back as soon as we hear quality has returned, but not until. Horrible. Was the best Chinese within 50 miles. Change it back, change it back!

Worst pad thai I have ever had by far. Literally threw it away after two bites.
Freshly cooked food, very fast service. I usually get the chicken fried rice and they fill up the container all the he way up and pack more food in than expected. Its nice. Staff is very friendly. Fortune cookies are nice addition 👌all utensils included for takeout.

They charged $1.00 for using a debit card because I didn’t spend a $20.00 minimum. The egg rolls tasted like cardboard and the chop suey tasted old...definitely not fresh. Will never go back.

Been going their for years because it’s a great restaurant but after today’s visit never will I set foot their again the guy at the register was very very rude and disrespectful!! I told him to calm down it wasn’t my fault he was having a bad day and what did the guy do yelled and said bye leave get out I don’t have to take your order! He refused to take my order Mind you I drove 45 min to get food. But never will I come back again just lost a costumer that had been going for years all because he does not know how treat a costumer!!!!

I have ordered from here many many times. The food is almost always delivered hot and good. Love the won ton soup and the salt and pepper chicken. Perhaps a little pricey, but you pay for what you get. Delivery people are always very courteous..
We have eaten here for many years. Tonight we ordered two different beef meals. Both meals had maybe 3 or less pieces of beef in them. We called to complain as this has never happened before. They responded with first calling us liars and then saying, You can bring your food back and we will refund your money, and we will not take your order again. Terrible customer service. They just lost a long time customer. Would rate 0 if I could.
First time ordering. I scheduled a 6 p.m. delivery time, and it arrived at 5:30. If I hadnt been home that would have been a huge problem. There are no size descriptions, and some of the large items are much larger then other restaurants, so we ordered too much and spent too much. The tip I added in my online order did not show on the receipt, so I called to be sure he got a tip, the person who answered the phone was very short with me, said he got the tip and hung up quickly before I had a chance to ask another question I had. I dont understand why the tip amount isnt included on the receipt. Food was just ok in my opinion, I probably wont order from there again
It was great! We took a chance and it was great! The pot stickers were fabulous. We had the beef and broccoli and the shrimp with cashews. Highly recommend all of it! Soooo good!
I have been a Frequent customer of Szechwan Palace, for the last few years. I often spend $40 or more for take out, few times per month. I tried to use an online money mailer coupon, which I printed out on their website. When I went to pick up my food, they would not honor the coupon, and said had to be from original print. I explained I am a frequent patron, and the owner could care less ! I will never visit this establishment again !! If you want to piss off your customers this is a sure way to do it. Customer service goes a long way. You as an owner should know this and recognize your repeat customers. You have lost me as a customer for good ! Apparently the dollar they saved by not honoring the coupon was more important than making money for future business.
I have been here multiple times and all it is is HIGH PRICES and HORRIBLE FOOD. But this last time was especially APPALLING.We placed an order online and my husband went to pick it up. When he came back and we started eating, he immediately had a problem. The chicken was completely unedible, every time he took a bite he had to spit it back out because it was all cartilage! My husband is annoyingly laid back and affable, but he decided to call and talk to someone about it. IMMEDIATELY the person starts blaming us, saying we took too long to pick it up and thats what happens when deep fried food sits too long. My husband, a chef for 20+ years, explained that sitting too long does not mean the cartilage grows on the chicken. The guy still yells at him, blaming him and finally says to bring the food back. Then hangs up on us!We bring it back, and the woman slams the bag down *in a crowded dining room* and starts yelling at him that next time he better pick it up faster. CARTILAGE DOESNT GROW ON THE CHICKEN IF IT SITS TOO LONG, ITS BECAUSE OF CHEAP CUTS OR LAZY COOKS WHO DONT REMOVE IT WHEN PREPPING.I have worked in customer service for over 15 years and I have NEVER treated a customer like that. Not like they care but we will never be back and we will never recommend them.

Love the fact they deliver. Be warned about the pot stickers! The sauce is HOT! Thought my mouth was on fire. They should put a little pepper symbol on the menu. Unless I got the wrong sauce. 6 pot stickers was plenty. Only ruined 2 by pouring the sauce on them.
When the food here is good, its really good, unfortunately the quality is extremely inconsistent, at least at the Richmond location. I dont know if this place has a really good cook on some nights and a really bad cook on others, but something you will get food here that is the best Chinese around and other times it will be barely edible. My husband and I have been getting food from here for about 3 years, and when we first started going we got crap food about 25% of the time (keep in mind we only order about 5-6 different items, so its not a matter of just not liking a particular item), now Id say we get bad food 60-75% of the time, so we dont plan on eating here anymore. Its a shame, because when their food is good its GOOD, however for whatever reason the chances of getting a good meal here is less and less.
Absolutely love the staff and they now even know my voice when I call! I buy my team of area managers chinese once a month and they always tell me it better be from Szechwan! Great staff, great food and not too expensive! 10/10!!!
Szechwan Palace used to be the typical chinese restaurant however, they have new items to their menu. They have a new section dedicated to thai food now. I love their pad thai, it is the sweet version of it. There is the usual appetizers too, but the shrimp toast is to die for. And I havent found another place near me that makes it.
Szechwan Palace is a typical Chinese take out place, nothing too different or extraordinary. As other reviews have mentioned, the prices are a little high compared to other places in the area, and the food quality isnt too drastic from the other places either. The couple times Ive gone there, the staff seem to just kind of meander around, or read the newspaper, not really paying too much attention to who comes in, although food is always delivered in a timely manner. So overall, I would say that while its not bad at all, (As Ive mentioned, the food is actually pretty good.) its not my first choice for Chinese food.
Better tasting food if you are in the mood for Chinese cuisine. They also have some Tap Room gaming while you wait.
Not sure why this restaurant only has a 3.3 rating but we were not disappointed. Stopped here after a long day. Service was great and we had the eggrolls (my husband said they were the best hes ever had), crab Rangoon, egg drop soup, and the Hawaiian 5 O (or something like that). Food was delicious!
First time there. Had a lunch special, serve with egg roll and soup, it was very good. Reasonable prices, and a very large menu. Restaurant has a small dining area, very clean and very efficient waitress service. Ill definitely be back.
Love the crab meat Rangoon, egg rolls, Szechwan string beans, pork fried rice ... And the duck sauce the serve in the restaurant. The sweet and sour chicken and shrimp, orange chicken, and happy family are also our household favorites.
This place was horrible and expensive three years ago. I was convinced to give it another try. Once again the food was disgusting. Flavorless, soggy, extremely greasy and of course, for all of this added greatness, wonderful prices. I will never again order from this place. Even if the meal was free I would rather starve. If you decide to give it a try, order in person. I suggest if the sign is still up for needing to hire a cook, you are better off going down a couple doors and getting Subway or Rosatis. This place has excellent food. Ive been eating from here since living in the area 10 years. Always fresh.Always tasty. The family running this buisness knows what there doing. They actually drive up North every day front China Town. I appreciate there hard work. Its the best Chinese food Ive found in Lake Co.
The owner is a complete jerk. We order from there when we don’t want to go anywhere however there food is not nearly as good as the other Chinese food here in Antioch. So we got the order short 1 crab Rangoon and gave us orange shrimp instead of chicken. So I call and he said I was lying and he would not fix the order. What a joke if I wanted to get one over and was lying I would definitely keep the shrimp duh!! Really
This is a very small restaurant with 1/3 of the space taken up by video gaming. This makes it difficult if not impossible for anyone w a physical handicap to get in and move around. However, our server was accommodating and the food was flavorful and fresh.
The delivery driver in a small pickup truck needs to slow down and learn how to drive. My dogs and I almost got hit by him and then told me to put them on a leash, at the end of the driveway at my house.
The manager has a serious rage problem. I waited 25 minutes and all the time you could hear him screaming in the kitchen. All the staff was though.25 minutes later the Bhuddah’s Delight comes out in a bag though I was doing a sit down meal. I opened up and took a bite. The tofu was cooked on the outside but the inside was raw. I had a bite of noodles and it was not good. I bring it up to the teenaged American born. waitress. She politely says I can speak to the manager.The manager comes out screaming at me in heavily accented English, snatches the food from the table and pitches it into the garage can. He yells across the room for the girl at the register, “ Give his money back!” As I walk to the register he screams across the room full of people, “Hey man, you no know tofu! You look on line what tofu is! I fry 15 minutes!”My only response was, “I’m a vegan, I know good tasting tofu is. I also know what Yelp is too.”
Ordered for carry out from Szechwan palace in Antioch . Used to order from here all time then stopped due to inconsistency in quality . Though my we would give another try . when we arrived to pick up they could not find our order. After some delay Finally got food home . The chicken was gross . Very grisly . Had to spit out several times as I’m edible . The kung pao delight had good flavor but hardly any chicken and beef and only 3 shrimp . The hong sue chicken was skimpy on portion size . Tried to make best if it with out making a big deal out if as the family was hungry . Rice was ok as were the egg rolls . Then found long piece of plastic inside one of the crab meat Rangoons . This place totally gone down hill. Thought we would give another chance . Never again . Just gross !
I first have to say this is my favorite Chinese food! We have been ordering from here for years and despite having a sign that says there is a $20 minimum for cards they have never enforced it. Today I order my typical food that is under that amount and Im told on the phone to make sure I have cash on me ir there will be a $1 surcharge Well I certainly wasnt going to an atm and pay more than that go get out a $20 but its still very disappointing to be charged a fee to begin with since no one carries cash anymore. On top of that she ran my card for more than $1 more so either she doesnt know how to do math or they are charging tax on top of their upcharge.
Im not sure why the ratings are so low because Ive been going there for years and its ALWAYS great! I havent had a bad meal yet. The new owners are a charming brother and sister team. Definitely suggest going there.
Had food delivered for first time. Food was tasteless compared to other places. In a very short time we were both sick . I was ready to go to the hospital. I was up all night. Tried some of leftovers the next day. I was sick again. Will not get food from this place again. Its not worth it. This never happens at McDonalds.
Will never be back. They charge you extra to have the sweet & sour sauce separate from the chicken. I dont know anyone who enjoys soggy sweet & sour chicken.
Weve tried Szechwan palace a few times now and neither my wife or I liked it at all. I wont say its nasty or disgusting because it wasnt, it just wasnt for us.
Only one star because you have to give it one to be able to write review. Truth be told this place is horrible. It is apparent that the only job for a grown man is delivery boy & he is so pissed that thats all he can do in life he takes it out on the customer. Apparently today was bring your kids to work night and kids are flipping us off as the father does nothing. I will never spend another penny here. Everyone was appalled when I had to bring $51 worth of food back to this place. What a joke! Its a shame that people act like the looser this piece of crap is teaching his kids to be!!!! So I actually give it NO STARS!!!
I am obsessed with dumplings (potstickers). They are my favorite food. These would EASILY get a 5-star if they came with the traditional dumpling sauce. The sauce provided was overly sweet and forgettable. So I bring my own (yeah...I have a problem). These are, hands down, the best dumplings in the area.Outside is cripsed without being overly thin while the filling is a generous helping of stuffing combined with a dumpling-soup liquid.Non dumpling, I.E., unimportant things:The Lo Mein was overcooked and mushy. We did order at the end of the night buuut I dont see why we should get sub-par food because of that at the prices at this location.

Top quality American Chinese restaurant. Better for take out or delivery. They added annoying gambling video games that make noise and take up space. Seating is cramped but service is great.

First time visiting here and last time. I’ve ordered Thai food from many restaurants and the red curry from here was bland with a rancid smell and the pad Thai was just as bad. If it were my establishment I’d hire another cook.

Big portions. Great people .I find this particular restaurant very affordable and for those of you with young kids they want to teach them a second language the staff there will accommodate you with a word for the day either in Mandarin or tantonese

We ordered the Bianca pizza with sausage… amazing!!! Perfect crust, not too thick and not too thin. And the host Chris was very personable and made it a great first experience. We will be back.
Used to be nice but not any longer under new owner. Szechwan prawns came with puny shrimps and other dishes don’t taste the same……..

Wow was our meal good!!! Under new ownership and we are so happy. Food and service were great. I could see into part of their CLEAN kitchen and all of the vegetables were being freshly chopped. Really, the food was amazing!!!

2022-08-13After calling back to doublecheck the order, they still sent the wrong food. I got charged $1.20 extra for the wrong dish. I ordered Szechwan Crispy chicken and got sweet and sour chicken instead.The food was bland, and although the shrimp toast was good, it was saturated with grease.I wish the old owners still ran it; the food was good then. Its nowhere near as good now. 🫤

2022-05-06Like so many of these other reviews, we were disappointed when Szechwan Palace was sold. We would order delivery at least once a month and always highly recommended this place.The first time we ordered food with the new owners was a disaster. Nothing like the Szechwan Palace we knew and loved. BUT, it was early on, and we wanted to give it a second chance. I ordered again last night and was very happy. They were so friendly on the phone and at delivery, and when I opened the food I could immediately tell they changed something. Food was delicious and almost exactly how it used to be.

2022-05-15I ordered the BBQ pork today and Ive ordered it before, but this one is better than the ones Ive tried. I dont know if the chef had changed or something. The meat is soft and pretty flavorful. You wont be disappointed!

2022-04-16Update I have tried this multiple times since new owners have taken over also called to voice my opinion and everyone that loved eating here’s opinions to new owners and have been told they will try to translate it to new owner. I told them the food is now disgusting and and was told they didn’t change any recipes. Which is impossible if I’m don’t the only one that noticed it. I asked if they spent time with previous owner to learn and was told yes, but as soon as he left they did there own thing. It is a shame but I really hope this place goes out of business not the new owner owns a chain of Chinese restaurants in wi and is bringing his terrible WI food in to Illinois these only food from WI people from Illinois wants is cheese and beer.

2022-05-01I ordered delivery from Szechwan Palace tonight. After seeing all of the negative comments I felt necessary to post a favorable review. All of my food was tasty and piping hot. They said it would be 45 minutes before delivery but it arrived in 15-20 minutes. My only negative statement was they forgot the sweet & sour sauce for my bbq pork appetizer.If you have had a negative experience in the past, try it again. You may be pleasantly surprised

2022-08-16I would strongly suggest not coming to this restaurant the Chinese food is absolutely terrible. For starters I ordered beef teriyaki sticks they were extremely dry and had no flavor except for beef. Secondly I ordered chicken egg foo young the bottoms of the patties were burnt. I also got egg rolls. I took one bite and threw it out it cabbage tasted so stale and rotten. Absolutely disgusting. The price is kind of steep as well just for me and my daughter to order was about 60 bucks. We got two egg rolls one order of teriyaki beef sticks chicken egg foo young Mongolian beef small and regular size sesame chicken. Needless to say I will never be going back here again absolutely disgusting I dont know how this place is still in business. All I can say about this place is 🤢🤮 Yuck!!!

2022-06-14I have been going here for years. The last 3 times have been bad. I will not be returning. Wife ordered shrimp egg foo young. All lat 3 orders they have burned the eggs. I complained and all they wanted to do was give me a credit on the next order. I am not going back and they can keep the credit.I ordered sweet and sour chicken. The chicken was over cooked and very dark brown and all tiny pieces smaller than a quarter.In my younger days I would complain more now just not worth the stress. Instead I tell 10 people and they tell 10 people.Manager was not there. Any business should ALWAYS have a manager on site any time they are open.Trust me avoid this place

2022-05-06The salt and pepper shrimp at this place is the best Ive ever had! Eating it once was not enough. I want to try to salt and pepper chicken next time to see if its just as delicious.

2022-03-31It use to be the best Chinese food around but recently was sold to new owners and nothing is good at all. The rice use to be amazing and now it is absolutely flavorless and disgusting. I don’t think they are going to stay open much longer because the food is absolute trash. So sad the old owners are gone and the food has went completely downhill.

2022-04-19This was the to go to place. Me and my family tried again for the third time and its just not there. Its missing flavor. Orange chicken used to be crispy and flavorful now its quite the opposite.
