Everyone is saying they were being overcharged!!! Not true!!! They charge extra for whatever you didnt finish, so if there is an extra charge it’s more than likely for something you didn’t finish even if it was appetizers or something small. We have been here multiple times, as a party of 2 and as a huge family gathering. Never had any issues and the staff has always been super friendly and have amazing customer service.
Service was GREAT! Had plans to meet up in Buffalo Grove since diningmates live in the area. It’s been some time since I’ve been go AYCE sushi so it was nice to be back. We had a reservation for a party of 6 for a Saturday evening. We opted for individual orders since sharing is difficult during this time. Quality is average and is comparable to other AYCE sushi places. Pro tip: be sure to mark wasabi on the ordering sheet.I orderedSpicy crab saladCrab RangoonFried calamariSteamed shumaiEdamamePhiladelphia rollVolcano rollSurf clam sashimiShrimp sashimiI filled myself up with appetizers so couldn’t eat many maki rolls. 3 stars for food. An extra for great service.
Update from below 6/20/21:usually we get really good service here. today was especially disappointing. our waitress was not at all attentive. never brought us water, and brought our drinks out over 15 minutes after we sat down. at least a half hour later we finally got our food. so 45 minutes in we are all starving and finally got the food we waited for. sushi is always delicious but the wait was so disappointing.not to mention no ginger or wasabi? terrible service and horrible wait times.they dont even have the mongolian grill anymore so whats the point.only giving two stars because of the delicious sushi...OLD REVIEW:Great sushi. one of my favorite places. the grill is a great add on to the all you can eat menu also
Low qualitySushiCheap riceUnclean plates and utensilsnot to mention tables. The Staff is Unprofessional and you literally have t get up and make waves to get attention for your water to be refilled or ask for your check. The place poses as a Japanese restaurant but is really Chinese owned staffed and managed. avoid this place I know it sounds tempting but Hanabi in south Buffalo Grove or Sushi Joon in Wheeling are Much better options..
Good Food, fair prices, excellent service, and you dont have to wait for ever to get your meal after orderng like other Sushi places, the timing was perfect placed our order, the appetizers came about 7 mins. later and as we finished them our Sushi arrived. Timing was perfect and they kept our beverages topped off the whole meal, never had to ask. Green Tea ice cream topped off this feast nicely and it was a huge scoop for just $2🤗
The food was good and all but the waiters where pushy with ordering more and to order the expensive stuff and persuading us to not order the all you can eat, when we where paying we payed in cash and added 15$ more than we where supposed to, they asked for 5 more which we where confused about but gave anyways, they then said we still didn’t have enough and needed five more. BAD SERVICE, THEY SCAMMED US OUT OF OUR MONEY
Not a very good restaurant. First thing I noticed upon arriving is the table was still sticky and dirty. We had AYCE and ordered a few appetizers that came out barely even warm(at 6pm on a Saturday) Rice on the sushi was sticking to the plate and falling apart whenever we tried picking up a piece. Service was subpar, waitress never refilled my water. Sushi was okay. Would recommend going somewhere else.
Been here a few times, food was not bad. Todays experience was the worse ever. The second set of sushi that came over had under cooked sushi rice and the manager did not bother to come by to apologize for the under cooked rice, instead has told the server to give us 1 of 2 choices. Either finish it all or get charged for it. That was totally unreasonable. On top of that, theyve charged us gratuity automatically when there were only 4 of us. Definitely the worse experience ever!!! Never again!!!
This place is amazing. Ate dinner here last night and found my new favorite sushi restaurant and its ayce. The fish is fresh and the service is fast. Ive never seen such big pieces of fish used in rolls and nigiri with ayce. This place offers sushimi as well. Ive been to many AYCE sushi places in Chicago/suburbs and i can say I had the best experience here. Instead of trying to fill you up with a ton of rice like most AYCE places, this place gave me a surprisingly generous amount of fish. At the end of my meal I felt a little over dosed on fish in a good way. The food came out very fast despite the busy dinner time. Absolutely going back again, probably this weekend.Update: Went 2nd time with my parents Sunday, they loved the place. Food and service was excellent. Cant wait to go again.
My boyfriend and I love coming here, we are there probably about 1 time every two weeks or so. Such a great deal and the sushi is great! If you have a party of 4 or more, its a good idea to make a reservation, especially for Friday or Saturday. It can be a little slow when it is busy, so ordering apps included in the all you can eat or getting the stir fry helps!
Well I had a whole review here, but it got deleted when I tried to attach the picture. 🤦🏻♀️ the gist:Great, delicious, fresh sushi! Came quickly, nicely plated, and they didn’t skimp on the filling. You could definitely taste the freshness, all the way down to the seaweed itself.Friendly and efficient staff! They explained all our options, including the All You Can Eat, without being pushy or trying to up-sell us. Took our order quickly and got our food to us fast.Clean and attractive space! They had plenty of seating, but everything was spaced well and didn’t feel crowded. Nice ambient lighting and unobtrusive background music. Appropriate for a family outing or a nice date night.Impressive menu! They had a variety of maki, nigiri, sashimi, etc., as well as appetizers and non-sushi “kitchen entrees” (e.g. Yaki Soba, Teriyaki Chicken, as well as other appetizers and rice or noodle dishes). Appropriate for sushi buffs AND those who aren’t a fan of the taste or concept of “raw fish.” Their lunch specials also looked attractive, and I would definitely come back some time to test them out.Overall: great experience, highly recommended!
My husband and I used to come every week pre-covid. Not anymore. Post-covid, they’ve had 4 servers quit and everything has gone down since. Every time we come we receive horrible service and have to wait for 45 minutes to an hour (or longer) after placing our orders to get sushi. Today, our party of four waited over 45 minutes to get their food, however, they forgot mine. After waiting another 10 minutes we asked our server (who kept running away when we would ask for something before we could finish). She told us 5-10 more minutes then came back after 5 and said the kitchen lost my paper and had me make a new one. 10 minutes later the manager came over and said they didn’t lose it, another chef made it. No sorry, no compensation. This used to be our favorite place but every time we come we have to wait even if we’ve made reservations, receive bad service, and the rolls are small and skimpy. Don’t waste your time or money, go somewhere else.
We just had a friend of our drop off a plate of assorted Sushi and an order of Teriyaki Chicken from Sushi Grove. WOW, what great sushi! This was our first time eating food from here, but I can guarantee it will not be the last. Fresh, Crisp and very flavorful. We had an assortment of about 10 different types of sushi and I loved every single one of them. Thank You Drew for introducing us to this great place. Highly recommend!
This place is so good! And the service is great! We are observing social distancing during corona and I TRUST this place completely! They wear masks and have not opened to indoor dining. Order food online, ring doorbell and they bring it to the door. I got a sashimi appetizer that was so so so delicious! Thank you Sushi Grove for making my day!
Best sushi in town! I have been to Japan and have had sushi and this place is top notch. I always get the all you can eat which is well worth the price. The staff is always super friendly. Also some people get mad that the sushi may take a while but come on people if it is crowded of course it will take some time to make your sushi. Just be patient it is worth the wait. The rice to fish ratio is also good. Havent had a bad experience here once and my friend and I come here at least once a month. Try it out you wont be disappointed.
Ordered food through Uber Eats and it was terrible. The sushi wasnt fresh by any means. The gyoza had a small round bone in one of the pieces, which I would have easily dismissed the small mistake. Things happens sometimes. However, I found a sharp medium sized bone inside one of the sushi rolls which nearly stabbed me in the roof of my mouth. Lastly, one of the pieces of sushi looked VERY suspicious and steered clear from it.Ive eaten sushi at many places and have never had an issue with bones, until now. I would advise against ordering food from here.
Great price, and value is just off the charts. Sushi and sashimi are excellent and everything is prepared fresh. I love that the hibachi is included with all you can eat and the staff are all wonderful too. You can also get 3 pieces sashimi for every roll ordered included with the price as well. Overall you just can’t beat this place on value; and taste is also beyond expectations for all you can eat. My favorite place for sushi hands down.
Unlike the place across the street, this ayce sushi is top quality with friendly and efficient service. You will never be rushed or told to leave because you eat too much (unlike neighborhood experiences). Sushi Grove works hard to please from the warm friendly greeting to the thank you the moment you leave. Once again seriously top notch authentic fresh sushi as good as it gets outside Japan.
So elegant.. the meal started off with hot towels to wash your hands with. Then the waitress was very nice and easy going. The sushi was so delicious and the hibachi was perfect. Very happy with my experience and I plan on returning. Og and if you like octopus.. they even had that.. not many sushi places have octopus.
Found out about this place from friend of mine, twice ordered catering, good variety of trays for different size of groups and tastes, always can modify everything! Yesterday went there for my lunch break, was surprised they have lunch boxes starting from $11. I got one for $12.95, which said have 2 rolls of your choice, 4 pieces sushi or sashimi, it took them 10 mins to cook that for me and they brought me the bag that had decent size soup and the salad. Loved it, will go there more often for my lunch break. Plus girl at the front Nissa is always nice and caring!
Casual atmosphere, very friendly and efficient service, the sushi chefs are quite good and the fish is fresh. I was there for lunch and it was very dimly lit. Not at all like the photos, but it was fine. The all you can eat price for lunch is a reasonable $15.99 and includes many hand rolls as well as sushi selections.
I LOVE sushi grove! We have come here many times. Every time it is delicious. They have a stir fry section. We havent had a chance to try it yet. The sushi is very fresh and mouthwatering. The rice is delicious. Melts in your mouth. When our usual spot ua closed, we come here.
Horrible service, dirty, bland sushi, rolls very sloppily made and not rolled tight. They do have an all you can eat lunch, but make sure you finish every bite. The waitress told us if we leave ANY rice or even 1 piece of sushi, we get charged the entire a la cart price on top of the all you can eat price. Id understand if we left a ton of food, but a little rice on plate or 1 piece of a roll? Greedy and quality/ service is not worth it.
Today was my first time here, and it was awesome!! I called in a lunch order and it was fast, and so yummy!!! The staff was super friendly and nice. I have tried a variety of sushi places around here and havent been too crazy about any, but this place rocks!!! I was so excited I forgot to tip the lady who rang me up, but I will be going back, and will tip next time. Anyways was amazing and so excited to try more of their awesome menu!
The best sushi in Lake County. All you can eat sushi for $20 is such a great deal. The food is amazing and the service is good. The eel is mine and my boyfriends favorite. We eat a lot of sushi when we come here cause the all you can eat. We need to go soon cause me just writing this review is making me want sushi!
Food tastes alright. we tried the all you can eat and the food delivered at a reasonable time. Tasted like any basic sushi you would find at an americanized sushi restaurant. Make sure you read the fine print at the bottom of you menu, if you would like to order sashimi, you must first order a roll, every roll you get “buys” you a ticket for 3 pieces of sashimi. Our server failed to mention this to us, no doubt a part of their ploy to earn more money. Mentioning servers, ours was alright, nothing exceptional but nothing poor either. Selection of the menu is alright, portions vary but in general if there are less pieces the roll itself tends to be larger. Overall suggest that if you do choose to visit this restaurant to either just go with the normal menu as the all you can eat menu isn’t very value, or if you do choose to go all you can eat really, really love sushi.
Will not seat you until entire party is there. Had to request menus and then they gave us 2 for 6 people. Half the group ordered noodle dishes but we were only informed when they brought out the sushi for the other half that the kitchen was busy so it would be a 45 min wait for the noodle dishes. We obviously had to change everyones order to sushi then. This should have been communicated in the beginning. Dont think I will be back.
I am really shocked, I went in so excited for an excellent rated AYCE sushi and everything was bad. The edamame was cold, the rolls were way to big and difficult to eat in one bit as it should be done. The spicy tuna was mushy and while the ground up version it felt like there was some weird filler that just felt wrong in your mouth. No regular soy sauce. Service was just ok.
All You Can Eat for $19.99. Pretty standard fare on that front. One thing I definitely like about Sushi Grove is that they also serve Hibachi and I feel like their AYCE menu has a few more options than other places. Definitely get the Fantastic Roll if you like fried rolls. I wish the nigiri portions were bigger but other than that, not many complaints
I had a great experience here on Memorial Day Monday after finding Taste of Tokyo was closer across the street. The food was good. Thick slices of ingredients with not too much rice. My server Kyle was gave me a great impression and by looking at how everyone interacts, this place looks to have a cool staff. I recommend this place.
Lets break down the menuFirst theres a lunch and a dinner menu for the AYCE sushi. The lunch is slightly cheaper but has less options (although there are some rolls only found on the lunch menu) but you can ask for either menu anyways. I prefer the dinner menu.Theres a wide spread of rolls, as well as some nice nigiri and sashimi options, however if the roll includes cucumber, you can expect at least 1/3 of the contents to be cucumber. In the way of appetizers, there are several salads, miso and hot & sour soup, gyoza, yakitori, shumai, and some others. Theyre not bad overall, but its clear that the sushi is what youre here for.Service is quite fast, even when it is busy it takes a reasonable amount of time for them to make your food.Overall, this place can be a little pricy, but still a good deal if you are actually able to eat at least 4 rolls. The food is quite good, and Ive never had any issues in my dozens of time here.
AYCE Sushi and Mongolian stir fry for $20.99. If your looking to eat till its uncomfortable this is the place for the price. Stir fry was ok but better than the sushi. To much avocado on almost every roll and they hide mediocre at best sushi with store bought sauces. 3 stars for the combo price other wise probably a 2.
Always fresh sushi. Moved 40 miles north but still drive down to eat here. All the local places are more expensive and sushi is awful. Granted no fancy rolls in the ayce line up but I’m sure you can probably order per roll and get some. You can also get sashimi with your roll order. Not many places offer sashimi with their ayce menu. Staff is nice and they don’t over charge for kids. Another bonus is their Mongolian bbq that is included in the ayce price. So for ayce sushi, they are hands down awesome!
Love this place. AYCE here is the best Ive ever had! The fish is most always fresh and the amount of rice they put for the rolls is super bare minimum, which I love! The Nigiri on the other hand has a huge ball of rice, and a tiny piece of fish, but oh well. Overall, amazing place. Friends and I always come here for AYCE Sushi.
Ok this place has insanely great sushi. I make my own at home but for a $20.00 dinner Im going out of business I cant make it for that little. Only thing the owners sould change is run the food out as soon as its done when its busy the ready to serve food piles up. Never ate from the hibachi bar but Ive eaten from many restaurant even in Chicago this is my favoriteGreat Job!!!!
Very busy with a younger (high school) crowd, they offer $20 all you can eat sushi AND for each roll you order, you can order 3 pieces of sashimi. The quality makes this price a steal. Only reason why its 4 stars is because the service can be slow by American standards. The quality of the sushi however is worth it.
Went there for dinner Friday. The food is pretty god. No complaints on the food. The 2-Star rating is due to inattentiveness of the staff to keep the restroom in orderly function. Of the two wall mounted soap dispensers, one was completely empty, the other nearly empty. Informed a male server of the issue. By the time we were done with dinner, I returned to the restroom to wash my hands--no soap refilled, and now the paper towel was empty. Told a different male server, and he just simply didnt care.I was glad to see at least the sushi chefs had gloves on.
Everything was freshly made to order, not premade on a buffet. It was beautifully presented and delicious. Wide selection to choose from of appetizers , even soup and salad. Then there is the maki and sushi and sashimi oh my! All you can eat, but eat it all or pay a premium as take out.Take your time and enjoy! We went with cousins and had a really nice evening...
Excellent food and service. The best thing is the high quality of the food, especially for the all-you-can-eat option. They never do that thing that other restaurants do--you know, fill the rolls with too much rice to make your meal cheaper. All their stuff is well made and attractively presented, even for the $16 all-you-can-eat.
First off, when we came in, the line was long, so they gave us a menu for the all you can eat. Though we pre-ordered, it still took an hour for the food to come. We were all starving. I have to say, the fish was not that bad, but the rice tasted very sugary. Also, they gave huge blocks of rice on each piece of sushi. Some of the fish had black spots in them. We decided not to eat some rice, and they charged us three extra dollars for the rice left on our plates. We called for the manager, and she wouldnt refund us. That is how you lose 4 customers for $3.
Newly remodeled. Friendly staff.Mongolian BBQ self serve. Lot of selections for protein, vegetable and sauces.Sushi, large cuts will do hand rolls. Bit of a wait, but worth it!Buffett style starting at $6.99 for one trip Mongolian BBQ (no sushi) and $2.00 for all you can eat. Mongolian BBQ and sushi unlimited $16.99 and a few more price options. Worth a try.
We waited 35 min to be sat while several tables were empty. Poorly managed, manager yelled at staff and made customers uncomfortable. Mongolian grill was picked over and not kept up with and the employee could not speak any English when asked about sauce flavors. Very long wait for sushi orders and most of the appiters were never served. I feel very sorry for the little boy (son of the hostess) he is always there and sits at the counter playing Minecraft. Has been there for years.
With ayce option, can order 3 pieces of sashimi per roll ordered. Also there is a mongolian grill while you wait. Good variety of salads to order for appetizer. The downside is the eel sauce they use is total garbage. Does not taste like any eel sauce other restaurants use and clashes with everything they put it on. Ask for them to leave it out. Half the rolls on the menu are ruined by this stuff! The other rolls are good but eel rolls are some of my favorites and I cannot order them here
This used to be my favorite sushi spot in the suburbs. I went a few weeks ago and noticed moths flying near my booth. I shrugged it off. Went again recently and there were not only moths AGAIN flying around near the booth, but when I moved to a table in the back more moths were flying near me. I was absolutely disgusted. Had to leave. This place seriously needs to control its bug population! Its summer, its humid, but get some moth catchers or something! Complaining got me a simple sorry as I walked out the door. On top of all that, they were genuinely confused on why I decided to leave. Never coming back again.
Most recent trip there will be my last. Watched our server in the restroom coming out of her stall with her protective gloves on, washed her hands with them still on, and went back to work. Complained to the manager who did not seem too concerned with what I think is health code violation.

2022-04-03This is one of the best values for very good sushi and all you can eat. Almost any roll can be made as a handroll instead and they are always very friendly and good about getting everything looking beautiful.

2022-06-21Casual sushi spot for AYCE in the burbs. Lunch menu is a bit limited, but prices are quite low for all you can and the dinner menu boasts a much wider variety of options. Fish is always good quality and they do not go overboard with the amount of rice.

2022-01-21Sushi Grove is a great all you can eat sushi restaurant. For the price, the quality is pretty good. The only bad thing is that they took away the stir fry bar because of covid, but everything else is great!

2022-06-22I was a bit shocked by all the positive reviews but I have a feeling my meal was lackluster due to my going to lunch on a weekday. Hence 3 stars instead of my wanting to put 1.People are correct, the lunch all you can eat is very limited in regards to variety.By being one of two people there I was surprised it took 15 minutes to get my nigiri and spicy salmon roll out.My second plate took another 15 minutes and (even though they don’t give you a plate to put wasabi and ginger on) the didn’t give me another serving of wasabi and ginger.I would have asked for more but my server had a tendency to drop the plate and run out of sight.I had run out of water but she was busy doing something else, I guess with the one other customer. The nigiri wasn’t bad but the rolls were quite terrible. Spicy salmon was bland and the deep fried roll with avocado, cream cheese, and “various fish” (which probably means hamachi) was like eating a deep fried roll of cream cheese.I am also 90% sure they water down their soy sauce. So sure I decided to drink some straight from my dish and was shocked how not-salty it was.Maybe I’ll have to try their dinner but with so many other options nearby it may be a while.

2022-06-12I had a really good AYCE sushi dinner on a Saturday night here. Arrived at 6pm right before a bunch of other people showed up. I think I prefer this over Sushi Para. As a reminder for the next time(s) I come here, this is what I liked best and should order again:1st order should be:1 Seaweed salad1 tuna sushi2 salmon sushi1 yellowtail sushi (tender and buttery)3 eel sushi (really good, warm and fresh tasting)1 alaska roll1 Red dragon rollI could probably order this same thing as above a 2nd time if still hungry. The Philadelphia roll, tuna avocado roll, and spicy tuna roll were good, but I preferred the alaskan roll and the red dragon roll. The red dragon roll has tuna and sauce on top which was great and the alaska roll has cucumber in it which gives it a nice crunch.I also tried the green dragon roll which was decent, but it didnt have as much eel as I would have liked, so maybe skip it for next time.If I really wanted to, Id also be interested in the following rolls, but they might be hit or miss:Fantastic roll (deep fried)Deep sea rollAmerican dream rollCrab rangoon was ok, not great, but only 2 small ones come with the order, so doesnt fill up a ton of space.

2022-01-22Really delicious sushi. I come here for dinner and it’s really awesome. Lighting could be a little better, but the calming music and speedy service and nice presentation make up for it. Highly recommend the Godzilla roll!

2022-05-17One of our family favorite sushi places within Lake County. Clean, tasty & fresh sushi. Value for money. Decent atmosphere --- not too fancy, but comfortable.
