Wanted to go for a hike today, it was a combination of a light hike / walk. I’m glad I looked at the map a couple minutes in cuz there’s a trail called Henslow’s Trail that’s a bit more, shall I say, rustic, than the main limestone path. It goes for 2 miles before connecting back to Sunflower Trail for another mile. The limestone path is great for cycling & running, but a lil boring for just a stroll.
Beautiful place to escape into the wilderness for a good hour. Plenty of flowers along the path. The whole trail is very well maintained. Its a paved path the whole trail witch I loved. Only thing I didnt like was the circle turn in the middle of the field with can be a bit confusing if u not looking at your phone since there is no mapping witch is why I give it 4 stars.
Nice dog park, plus paved walking and biking path around lake. Fishing and boating. Certain months for boating okay. Only thing I was shocked with is you need to have a permit to use the dog parks in ALL of Illinois that I can see. A far cry from dog parks being free in Oregon.
Beautiful prairie trail with crushed gravel. Good for walking and biking. Lots of wild flowers and butterflies. You can sometimes see hawks. The loop around the park is somewhere around 4.5 miles, which is a good distance for kids. Some parts of the parth parallel 75th st, which is a bit noisy. There is very little shade, so I would recommend going earlier or later in the day.
I love DuPage Forest Preserves, but this one is my least favorite to walk at, and I rarely visited in the over decade I lived near it. I prefer a varied walk, with some paths in the sun and some in the shade. The prairie preserve is mostly in the sun, which is to be expected as it is a prairie, so that aspect doesnt figure into my rating. I would have gone more in cooler weather when the sun feels good, but because of the path location, I kept away. The busy roads are visible from the main path, so I never felt got that feeling of being enveloped in nature as I do at the other preserves. However, for the sake of wildlife, this preserve is important--my rating is in regard to my experience as a visitor, not in regard to the importance of the preserve itself. There used to be a model airplane runway, which I took my kids to sometimes. Enthusiasts would spend months building these wonderful airplanes, and then they would fly them there. That was a delight to see!
Very wide open prairie. Its best on days that are neither too hot nor too cold, as the lack of trees leaves visitors very exposed. On the other hand, we never found it too crowded unlike some other Forest preserves in the area. Even on the weekend we often met less than a handful of people per hour. Scenery is pretty enough, although maybe a bit monotonous in Winter.
Lovely open trail thats a nice change from the canopies of the usual forrest preserve trail. Like the loop 5.5 trail, nice for exercise. Not too busy. Near the road so you always hear the cars. No shade so definitely would not go on hot day. Dog park is lovely, one of the best Ive been to.
The park occupies a fairly large territory. very convenient map and location system. Great for athletes: cyclists, runners and walkers. and it will also be interesting for your dog)) when you overcome 5.5 miles with it, then your dog will probably sleep all day. pay attention to this point: this is a prairie park, not a forest! therefore there are few sites in the shade of trees. it can be very hot in the sun, even in cool weather. do not forget the hat! the landscape is quite monotonous, but certainly beautiful. this is a real prairie! with the aroma of wild herbs, many birds and butterflies. if you are running or you like fast cycling, be careful: there are two crossings over a busy road, do not accelerate))
Well maintained paths wide enough to allow two way traffic without having to step off the trail. Not much protection from the wind and the sun. Wasnt an issue for our hike. Weather was overcast and wind wasnt bad. Trail is fairly flat very little elevation changes throughout. The main trail we were on crossed Book road twice but both are at well defined stop lights. Overall it made for a great cub scout hike. Just over six miles.
Massive. Love the greens. And undulating landscape. Awesome for jogging, trekking, cycling or plodding along. Good doggy get away. Place for a nature get together....ring ceremonies, baby showers, family do, you get the hang. But. Those sign posts do NOT tell you how far or what you are getting into. Place gets 9. Help gets you ....ok. leave it at that. Enjoy nature. And sunsets. As you trundle along.
One of the best walking trails around. Bikers, Hikers, runners, and the occasional dog walker, although they have a designated area, some people with dogs walk the trail as well. Most people will give a nod to fellow walkers, which keeps it friendly. Nice flora along with native wild flowers in abundance adds to the ambiance. Bird life is very present as well.
I just enjoy this forest preserve so much. It is aesthetically beautiful with the natural prairie grasses. The paths are clear and wide for use by all wether on foot or a bike. Great for all times of the day or evening. The paths drain well after any rain and with an underground tunnel and great street crossings, it makes going over the busy streets easy and safe.
It is a almost flat area for Jogging, Walking, or Biking. There are two major loops for that. One is about 5 mile, and the other 2.2 miles of packed coarse sand paths. Recently they upgraded the trail markings thourghout. Has a remote controlled model plane air field. The only small negative thing about this place is that a road cut through the 5 mile loop, which means you have to cross the road twice in order to complete a loop. Plenty of parking spaces (2 lots).
This is a good place to walk the dog. If your lucky enough, you can watch the REALLY cool & elaborate radio controlled aircraft being operated on a well constructed tarmac. Most of which are flown with great precision. But once in a while . . . Something goes terribly wrong with the radio frequency . . . (Its NEVER the pilots fault!!! ) And C R A S H !!! 😱 ☠ 😂
Always a nice place to go, if you like to be in the sun & the breeze as most of it is all prairie. People on the trails are always nice....but those on bikes need to re-learn proper etiquette on trails, warning walkers they are passing. All it takes is On Your Left, or they could have bells, lol. Was walking with my dad, who is much older, and we were startled a lot by bicyclists that never said nothing. But i should say that is an unusual occurrence.
Nice place to walk your dog or ride your bike and if you dont have a dog, walk around with your best friend, and if you dont have any best friends then its a great place to just walk with the person youre always with, yourself. Many times in my life I have run out of friends but every time Ive looked in the mirror, I still have me. That means I guess Im not a vampire?
I always enjoy stopping at the Springbrook Prairie. I enjoy the beauty of this awesome open space and so thankful to have it preserved and maintained. Great for enjoyjng the wildlife, the vegetation, running, biking, or walking. This beautiful place provides solitude to families and singles. A must stoo during our short seasons.

Springbrook Prairie is freaking awesome. Seriously, its a gem in the midst of disgusting suburban sprawl and strip malls. (That said, if looking out across a beautiful, serene prairie and seeing a looming Wal*Mart in the distance is enough to make you cry, maybe... dont put on your glasses when you stop by.)The main path here is about 5.5 miles in a loop, which cant really be shortened unless you want to take an out-and-back approach. There are mile markers every half mile, so thats not terribly difficult to execute.
Nice path for bike riding, jogging or walking. Unfortunately the path circles this big area leaving much of its beauty undiscover as the lack of paths disecting the space or following the creek that runs through it. 3 stars as there are no bridges or tunnels crossing Book road which make for a challenging and potentially unsafe transition. More paths and better crossings are needed.
One of the more lackluster Forest Preserves in Dupage, but it is probably perfect for a bike ride. Its open prairie with the walking paths all paralleling busy roads; so theres no shade, little scenery, and not much of an in-nature feeling. That said, it is well maintained with wide peat-gravel trails and a very nice model air-field (paved landing field, work stations, shaded picnic tables, wind sock). Restrooms and trash cans are far and in-between, and my dog picked up several ticks just walking next to the prairie grass. It is my impression that most people use the eastern trails which have their own parking area and may connect to other bike paths or parks.
This place is a huge prairie--not a house in sight anywhere. The view of the sunsets are like you are in the middle of nature, and yet major 75th St is just up down the road, and you are littlerly 3-5 minutes from malls and stores and restaurants and the busy Rt 59. There is a sandstone path leading to the Model Airplane Field from which you get year-round views the sunset right down to the very horizon (See photo). Just so relaxing
This is a great place for running, hiking and biking. There are two loops that create a figure eight with 8.5 miles of trails. There is a 5.5 mile crushed limestone loop on rolling hills through open Illinois prairie and a 3 mile loop that is 1/3 limestone and 2/3 grass trail. The larger loop is popular but leaves you exposed to the sun and wind. The smaller loop is more shaded and has better protection from the wind. On the West by the main parking lot there is water fountain and public restroom. There is also a 3/4 mile long dog park trail on the west side. The parking lot in the middle of the park off of Plainfield/Naperville Rd has limited parking, pit toilets, picnic tables and an air field for model aircraft.
Awesome snake and super cool model aircraft field, loved pretending I was a model aircraft (B-52 Bomber to be exact). It was a lot of fun until the Naperville Park District arrested me for not having an Annually Renewable District Permit. Turns out you cant forge those... Help me plz nobody is willing to pay my bail
Springbrook is a small glimpse of what Im sure this state looked like before it was plowed under to make room for endless corn fields. There are lots of birds and deer and occasional coyotes to watch. A long loop offers a good place to bike or run. An especially nice view of sunrises can be had by parking in the lot on 83rd and taking the trail east toward Book Rd.
6 mile walking trail in the heart of Naperville. There are several access point, with abundent parking off of Montgomery road across from Spring Brook golf course. Modern bathrooms are at this location along with bathrooms at the Plainfield Naperville road access point. There is a dog no leash area at the Montgomery location, and model aircraft runway near the Plainfield Naperville lot. Running, bicking, horseback riding all occur on the well groomed trail.

2022-05-25I would not recommend this trail at this time.. for people or dogs. We brought along two dogs for our walk and discovered shortly after leaving they were infested with ticks. My friend also found a tick on her, leaving the park. I also wanted to mention, we did not allow our dogs to run through the the brush and still found 10 ticks on each dog. We were very disappointed by this since we really enjoyed the trail but even more disappointed since this is also a dog park.

2022-06-19This off leash dog park is fantastic and very enjoyable. The only issue is after rain there is a few spots of standing water on the outside ring at the 4 oclock and 10 oclock positions. The park district has done alot of work and almost all but perfected the standing water issues and they used to be alot worse.I just stick with the inner most circle pathways and the dog stays dry.

2020-10-15Springbrook is the perfect place to run or bike or, hey, just go for a walk. Its all crushed limestone and very open and safe. The main loop is about 5.4 miles around crossing Book Road twice (once north, once south). There are two primary parking lots: 83rd Street and Plainfield-Naperville Road (which has restrooms); also, there is a smaller parking lot off P-N Road and you can connect from Walmarts lot. There is a little elevation change and Bek Hill which has a nice view of the Preserve. For fun, you can also run under the P-N overpass and get another 3 mile loop, some of which is grass and dirt; that section has a little bridge which is very picturesque.

2019-12-29Local treasure- great hiking, biking, dog park, model aircraft field. Only recommendation might be more signage for larger features and notable plant life. Perhaps offer guided walks for a small fee monthly?

2019-08-21We really enjoyed how easy it was to navigate through this path. This isn’t always the case with the paths out here! We took the kids with their bikes and a little disappointed that the paths were gravel at first. But it worked out well. It actually adds cushion to walking and it didn’t interfere with the girls being able to navigate their bikes. One was even a very new rider.

2020-05-02Was a nice place to go for a walk yesterday but was very busy with other walkers, runners, bike riders, and dog walkers so that was the only unfortunate part. The trails are made of the tiny white rocks so not a flat service, so make sure you wear shoes that are comfy. Overall, this place is only 16 minutes away so I am sure we will be back again. Oh FYI, bathrooms and picnic areas are closed right now due to the pandemic going on.
