I highly recommend Sports Vet Emergency care facility!! While the outcome for my girl was not favorable, every single person (from the front desk to the doctor) was professional, caring and patient. The wait time was minimal and results were within a very reasonable time frame.
My first experience with SportsVet has been very good. My dog needed TPLO surgery which was unnerving and terrifying for me. After the initial consultation, any time I called with a question, I was treated in a friendly, respectful and understanding manner. The communication between Dr Jacobs, his surgical staff and myself was timely, clear and thorough. I initially came to SportsVet because our regular vet doesnt perform the surgery our dog needed. I thought it would be a little awkward but our dog was treated with care and kindness as if theyd known her forever.
Dr. Turek is kind, thoughtful, and so knowledgeable. She takes time to thoroughly examine her canine patients, and explain a diagnosis to the owner. You can tell she loves what she does as a veterinarian. She treated my friends dog as if it were her own. I would highly recommend Sports Vet, and Dr. Turek!!!
So grateful to Sports Vet over 4th of July. My dog had a terrible reaction to the fireworks the night before. They got me in on Saturday and they were able to prescribe something that made. Him much more calm, and made for a much easier weekend. Cant say thank you enough!
My Greyhound, Ava, stepped in a sewer grate and had a big gash on her leg which required stitches. Dr. Shores did the surgery which required anesthesia. Greyhounds sometimes have problems with anesthesia. Dr Shores was aware of this and the surgery went great. Ava got the stitches out last week and her wound is all healed. Great care at Sportsvet!
This place is truly amazing! I have never had a better experience at any other animal urgent care before. They are extremely thorough and explain every step when it comes to diagnosis, options, costs, e.t.c. No one rushes you through your visit or your time spent talking with thet vet. This place far exceeds our current vet & I wish we lived closer so our dog could utilize their services for his regular needs. We felt 100% comfortable with them caring for him overnight during his urgent health crisis. Even when we called every 2 hours during the night to check on him, they were professional, caring and always informative on how our sick boy was doing while in their care. Our dog gets extremely anxious when hes away from us and has been traumatized at other facilities by being left alone. These folks checked on him every hour or so and he had zero anxiety once he was cleared to come home. That itself says a lot since none of us had ever been to this facility before. Their fees are very reasonable too in my opinion. Hats off to everyone here. Thank you for your wonderful standards and for taking such excellent care of our dog!
They did an amazing job in saving my baby girl but when it came to a follow up appointment they canceled my 1st appointment and then when I called to reschedule the 2nd appointment they made me prepay. On the way to the vet there was an accident so I was 15 minutes late and they said I had to reschedule and my money would not be refunded. This is a heck of a way to treat people in an already compromised financial situation😥😥
Our 10 month old labrador pup, Prine, needed surgery for a slipping kneecap. After some research and reference by friends we chose Sports Vet to do the procedure From the first phone call to the surgery two days ago Sports Vet has acted in a welcoming, informative, professional manner. Prine is recovering nicely and we hope for an active future for him.
My sweet GS dog had been sick for a few days and wouldn’t eat among sone other issues. I called the SportsVet clinic as I knew something was wrong. The staff was so wonderful, friendly, helpful and compassionate toward my girl Hannah. They got her into urgent care and figured out what was wrong. Dr. Webber was so courteous in calling me to explain the issue. They took excellent care of her and I felt confident in that care. I highly recommend their service!
I took my cat here for pet boarding. When I came to pick him up, my cat was so skinny, dehydrated, dirty and scared. I washed him, and the bathwater was grey. GREY. It is evident that my cat was not taken care of. I called and asked for an update of my cat. I had to call multiple times in order to get a picture of my cat. After they finally sent me a picture of my cat, there were no further updates. Do yourself a favor and take your pet somewhere else for boarding. They charge you twice the price for what you get in this region for your pet to come back looking starved and sick.
In the past, I have always had good experiences with Sports Vet, but today caught me off guard. I had an appointment for a follow up vaccination for my cat, Dennis. Unfortunately I got out of work a few minutes later than intended, and was going to be 5 minutes late. I called ahead of time and let them know. They said no worries and thanked me for the heads up. Then, I received a call back saying they would need to cancel the appointment altogether. I was mainly confused by this, as I typically wait 10 minutes or so after the appointment time slot before being called back for the check-up. The explanation was that Dennis is an aggressive cat (aka he struggles to sit still and whines when getting shots/examined). I had explained how just the last time I was there, I wasnt even called back with Dennis for 15 minutes, but Sports Vet held firm they needed to cancel. Now the real issue comes to play, is that I was informed he would need to restart the vaccination process since the booster wouldnt have been administered in the proper timeframe. I again asked if they could make a consideration to still see him today, since my GPS had me getting there 4 minutes after the appointment was set to begin. I had also given him the prescribed Gabapentin from the vet to calm his nerves after the last appointment to hopefully limit the amount he whined and squirmed away from the vet.We are now going to be considering switching care for our current animals (2 dogs, 1 cat), including future care for the dog and cat we are adopting in the coming weeks. I was very disappointed in the whole ordeal, but I do understand where Sports Vet is coming from since I would have been a little late. What I dont understand is the logic behind me waiting past the appointment time consistently before being seen, but then having Denniss appointment cancelled over 240 seconds and in turn having to repay for vaccinations.
Since joining with the emergency clinic, this has gone from a great place to take your pet to the LAST place I would take my pet. Their only concern is their own convenience. To hell with the well-being of your pet. Dr Nuss seems especially heinous; he is completely inflexible and seems to think a dog’s mental health shouldn’t be a factor in his care plan. Disgusting. When we could see Dr Jacobs, I had NOTHING but glowing things to say. Almost every vet who has seen my pets since then has been worse than the one before. No compassion, limited knowledge, and careless. I brought a dog in after she was attacked and had multiple puncture wounds in her neck. They addressed one. I had to go back to have them shave her neck again so they could address the others. I had told them about the others at the first visit, as I had literally pulled my dog’s neck skin off each individual tooth of the dog who attacked her. They assured me that I was wrong, and that there were no others. When I called to make the three day follow up appointment, the woman who answered tried to tell me the next opening was in two weeks unless I paid an extra $100 to be seen sooner. I asked if she could check with the vet to see what she thought since she requested the appointment, and, wouldn’t you know it, she just happened to have appointments available whatever day I needed. They were always available, they were just trying to scam me for more cash. These people want your money and do not care about your pets. Do not trust this place.
I was sure that I had left a review, but now that I am looking back I don’t think that I did. However, I had an amazing experience with the ER service my dog received. He was hit by a car and I literally thought he was going to die. They took amazing care of him and helped me with everythingfrom my financial situation to getting his surgery done. He is healed and doing better and Bruno is back to his over happy and energetic self.
We rescued a dog in really terrible shape (owner surrender with animal control present). We drove an hour and a half to have him seen. Dr. Volz and her staff were nothing short of amazing through our experience. Unfortunately the poor guy had to be put down, but we could not have asked for a more professional, understanding, honest staff to walk us through it. Dr. Volz even helped us out with the cost due to the circumstances. I wish we lived closer, because this was the best staff I could have imagined working with.
I have been going to SportsVet for almost six years now, and it has been one of the best decisions I made since moving to the area. I have both cats and dogs, and Dr. Dillon and Dr. Jacobs have always taken such excellent care of them. Whether the pets go in for a routine check up or for something more serious, I know my pets are going to receive the best care and attention. The prices are very reasonable--I have never once felt as though I was being ripped off or over-charged for a service. One of my dogs has also been going to doggy daycare, and it has been wonderful. Audrey and Shay do such a good job making sure our pup has a great time, and they even provide weekly write-ups to let you know how your pup did. I have recommended SportsVet to every friend I have that owns a pet, and I will always continue to do so.
Love this place! My first time going to the vet with my first puppy!! I have a stray puppy so she is not accustomed to being around people yet and was growling and barking, even SNAPPING at the vet and the vet tech, but they were patient and were able to calm her down after I muzzled her and was able to give her her vaccinations. Very great and very caring towards her. You can tell they love their jobs which is great🙏 Would highly recommend
I brought my dog in as a new patient and was thoroughly impressed with all aspects of the quality of care that she received. Sarah the Vet Tech and Dr. Dillion were both very kind and knowledgeable, and the receptionists at the front desk were helpful during both the check-in and check-out process. The facility was clean and inviting, and we had very short wait times between being checked in and taken back to a room, and being seen by the veterinarian.
I want to start off by saying this place is amazing. It is by far the most professional, friendly, and caring vet I have ever been to. I have been to human hospitals that werent as good as this place. My first experience with them was an emergency situation with my families older dog. She had a lot going on and we made the painful decision to not put her through days of tests and IVs and laid her to rest. The staff was so understanding and not once showed any judgment on the decision. They were kind and gave me all the time I needed to make the choice and say my goodbyes. They are a hour away from where I live but have gained a customer and I will for sure use them in the future for any of our pet needs. Thank you to all the staff for helping me through my decisions and I hope you all are able to see this and get the thanks you so much deserve.
Absolutely amazing Animal Hospital. We were traveling on I74 when our dog took sick. I found SportsVet on Google and gave them a call. They had us bring our boy in right away. We pulled up to an immaculate facility and were welcomed by the absolutely most friendly staff you could ever imagine. The facility was SPOTLESS, spacious, modern and just plain beautiful. I immediately felt comfortable. The vet tech and vet listened to our concerns and took great care of our fur baby. They got him the the treatments he needed and sent us home with a special diet as well as follow-up medications and detailed instructions. Even with them welcoming us in as an emergency patient, they didnt charge as an ear and a tail, either. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Our sweet boy is now resting comfortably in the car as we make our way to our next destination. You are truly are angels!
Called them on a Saturday morning and they got me in the door in a couple hours! When we arrived we got right into a room and the problem my dog was having solved! Within 30 minutes my dog was taken care of and we were on our way! Will be calling again when I need urgent care for one of my animals! Wonderful service!
My daughter left an impassioned review minutes after we dashed out of SportVet to go to U of I ER & I want to add a calm note. This facility may do really well most of the time, but in the case of an ingestion with chance of toxicity & time to treatment is crucial, definitely, 100%, no-doubt-about-it, don’t take your pet here. They were VERY clear that even if I checked my puppy in to be seen by them, they would do NO evaluation or treatment until either I or they had a phone consult with ASPCA & a case # assigned. I tried to reach ASPCA on the hour’s drive to SportVet & was not able to get to anyone.Would a human ER doctor capable of trauma/ER care leave a human sitting in the waiting room until they reached poison control about how to manage a common ingestion (my puppy’s was grapes; common & treatment is known)?Even a freakish ingestion should be able to be researched quickly.U of I ER took my puppy in to the exam area within minutes of entering the lobby. Said they definitely can initiate evaluation, start treatment (induce vomiting is crucial asap), & monitor her. They do consult with ASPCA sometimes but they would NEVER delay evaluation waiting for a case number! Sorry, SportVet, this time did not go well.I know many people are concerned with cost but I was told by your employee that if I didn’t get through to ASPCA, they would & I’d be charged alot more for it then. She said they would call the same #888 I was calling & have to wait like everyone else.ASPCA is a wonderful organization that is clearly understaffed & maybe your clinic should get a priority number to reach them or alter your “won’t evaluate without a case # policy”. It is unprofessional & risky to our pets.
Dr. Jacobs and his staff are fantastic! I had taken my dog to several vets before finally coming to Sportsvet. Dr. Jacobs was very reassuring and was able to determine the source of the lameness almost immediately. He took the time to explain every part of the surgery that my dog needed as well as the fees associated with it. I never felt rushed and never felt like he just wanted my money. You could tell that he and his staff truly cared about my pet. Even following my dogs knee surgery I was met with smiling faces each time we came for a rehab appointment. I now take all of my pets here and highly recommend Dr. Jacobs to everyone. Definitely one of the best vets in the Central Illinois area!
Every single time Ive gone Ive had exceptional customer service and amazing care for my pup! He has hear failure that went undiagnosed by our last vet and he was getting very sick. They were able to immediately identify what was going on and get him started on the right medications. Hes had a few trips to convenient care because of exacerbations and every single doctor weve seen has been incredible. Highly recommend!
I would just like to thank these people again. I brought in my pup Charlie who was in bad condition and didn’t make it. The staff was very kind and sympathetic. They did not rush me, gave me the chance to try to save his life & worked on him. The Dr is very professional & explained to me what was going on while being upfront but still compassionate. I talked to almost all of the staff & they all listened to the pain I was going through while I knew Charlie was suffering. They were very understanding & I even got a complimentary clay paw which I will cherish. The way they treat people during moments like this is very important as a dog owner to have a peace of mind & they were great
Dr. Nuss is the first vet I have truly trusted with my Cane Corso. He can be a bit grumpy at times, and Dr. Nuss along with all of the staff at sports vet were so patient and aware of his needs. All of my questions and concerns are always answered so thoughtfully and thoroughly- you can truly tell that your pets well being is their #1 priority. We are so thankful to have a vet as wonderful as Dr. Nuss!
Excellent vet! Dr. Turek is awesome. I knew she was the real deal when she sat right down on the floor with our new puppy. The vet tech sat down with her and they basically played with her while giving an exam and talking with us. Super down to earth about food and training. Just excellent animal people all around--that goes for everyone Ive met there. And this place is a 24/7 clinic with a medical facility that feels like a modern human clinic. We get lab results within hours on a weekend. Ive never had a vet experience like this but I would say SportsVet should set the standard.
I went to SportsVet for a second opinion after repeat visits with no solution at my original vet. Dr. Dillon diagnosed my dog immediately and correctly. Hes not in treatment for his disease. Im so grateful for the efficient, informative, and supportive staff at SportsVet. We were able to get my dog on the right path quickly, with thoughtful and thorough examination and diagnosis. One thing that I love so much is they told me how much everything would cost along the way so that I could make informed decisions about the care that my dog needs. I have recommended them to all of my friends.
Was SO disappointed with their supposed urgent care. I have a regular appointment scheduled, but my dog started having seizures (3 in less than a week)....after the last one (where he was very disoriented), we decided to go to the Urgent Care instead of wait 4 more days for his regular appointment. I called 1.5 hours ahead (it takes us 50 minutes to get there).....I filled out the form online before going and they still told me ONCE we had gotten there that it would be possibly 3 hours. Not happy and will be looking for a new vet service.
On Aug 19, we brought our family dog Kipper into SportsVet after he had been vomiting, lethargic, uninterested in food/water, uninterested in any kind of activity, sad, and completely unlike himself. Kipp had blood work, a physical exam, and x-rays done. The veterinarian told us that all of his blood work and x-rays were normal, and that she felt like he was in a great deal of pain, which we knew before we arrived at the clinic. Unbeknownst to us, the veterinarian that performed the abdominal x-rays noted that she was unable to get patient completely in on any view in the visit summary, but that the abdominal organs were normal. How can an x-ray be considered normal if a clear and conclusive image of the abdomen is not attainable? We were told that the cause of his pain was his hip dysplasia (which he has had for years without these symptoms), and to increase his dose of gabapentin. No further examinations or testing were performed. We were sent home and told to bring him back in on Friday if he was not better. On Saturday (Aug 22) evening, we rushed him to the U of I Veterinary Hospital emergency room. The abdominal x-ray performed there revealed free air and fluid in his abdomen. He went into emergency surgery. He had multiple tumors on his abdominal organs, there was a hole in his esophagus, cancer had torn through his gastric tissue, and he had a ruptured stomach ulcer which had perforated, allowing stomach acid to freely invade his abdominal cavity and attack his organs. How is this possible, when we were just told a few days ago that his hip dysplasia was causing his pain and these symptoms, that his abdominal x-ray was normal, and that an increase in his Gabapentin dose would ease his pain? Last time I checked, hip dysplasia is a painful diagnosis, but not a terminal one. We lost the most cherished member of our family that night.Searching for answers, we contacted SportsVet to understand how these devastating diagnoses were missed and why an ultrasound of the abdomen was not performed if other tests were not providing any answers. The response from SportsVet: Not every veterinarian is comfortable performing an abdominal ultrasound.Whats uncomfortable is having to hear that our sweet boy (who we were told was healthy by SportsVet four days prior) had progressive cancer, tumors, holes in his stomach and esophagus, a ruptured stomach ulcer, and that we had to make an immediate decision for humane euthanasia. Whats uncomfortable is knowing that he was suffering, and he was not given the proper care or attention at the initial appointment at SportsVet on Aug 19. Whats uncomfortable is knowing that we put our trust in SportsVet to care for our dog. When I called SportsVet to request a visit summary and lab results be sent to me, I let the receptionist know that Kipp had passed away after a misdiagnosis (or no diagnosis at all) from this clinic. Her response was which email would you like me to send the report to, no condolences, sympathies, or apologies were offered. On top of this, the medical/visit report was missing medication and symptom information that was given to the veterinarian during the Aug 19 visit. We would not recommend this place to anyone seeking veterinary or emergency care for their pet.
This was my first visit and it was an unscheduled/emergency visit for my dog (re: conjunctivitis). We saw Dr. Jacobs and he was thoughtful, pleasant, insightful and gave me a few options for treatment. Staff was exceedingly kind and they were great with my dog. We were in and out in 1.5hrs which includes the time it took to render the results from blood work. I was pleasantly surprised at the reasonable price (when does that ever happen?!) for our visit/exam + labs. The facilities are very spacious, new, and clean.
The Staff and Dr were amazing! My 17 year old Best Friend was sick. Her name was Sally! They were so warm, caring, their soft voices made it slightly easier to put her to sleep so she could be out of pain. Ill never get over this one. What I will tell you is I will recommend this Vet Clinic to anyone. Thank you! Thank you for being you all of you There! I even got her paw prints.
As a new client at the SportsVet Animal Medical Center, I believe I have found a new family!Katie was considerate, compassionate, and caring. She seemed to understand the anxiety a nervous mom was experiencing as I left my precious family member in the care of others. Katies emails and phone calls to reassure me that my dog was in good hands was greatly appreciated.Emily was very knowledgeable and an expert in explaining details of the procedure in a way that was understandable.Bri was respectful and kind as she helped escort my three dogs to the car.Dr. Jacobs was understanding, engaging and nurturing. Kind, gentle and genuinely interested in the care and treatment of animals. Dedicated to serving his clients and providing follow up calls after a procedure.I truly trust the extremely competent and knowledgeable staff at SportsVet and look forward to Dr. Jacobs providing future health care needs for my dogs.In my opinion, SportsVet provides a totally positive, professional and personal experience from the moment you walk in the door to the time you leave.
My dog is a patient at SportsVet, and I could not be any happier with the care that she receives there. Not only is Dr. Jacobs wonderful with my dog during checkups, but she also gets boarded at SportsVet when my family has to be out of town. My family recently went on vacation and my dog had to be boarded for two weeks. Katie was absolutely wonderful with sending email updates and photos of my girl. I know that my dog got the best care that we possibly could have asked for while we were gone, and that is such a sigh of relief!
I cant find enough good things to say about Dr. Jacobs and his staff!! They have never failed to provide the highest quality care for all of our animals over the past 7+ years and I dont think I could ever take them any place else! They are always prompt returning phone calls, answering every question we have and, most importantly, the genuinely care about the health, safety and happiness of all our pets. If you are looking for the best vet in town who offers the most up to date services and equipment and the most caring staff, then definitely go to SportsVet!!
We took our dog to see them as our regular vet had no availability. We were very impressed from the minute we stepped into the office. They were very nice and courteous through the whole process. They went through all of the steps they would be taking and the costs before they went through the testing. Unfortunately our dog had to be euthanized. They were so caring and supportive through the whole process. They even sent us a hand written sympathy card in the mail this week. We were so appreciative of their support and caring in a very hard time for us. We will forever be grateful for that.
On August 1,2020 we had an emergency situation with our cat, Wally. She was not in good shape and we rushed her to Sportsvet. We were met at the door and she was immediately rushed back. Being as frantic and confused as I was it was hard to comprehend the options that were given. Once it was determined she would not survive with any medical intervention, we made the difficult decision to let her go. Before I could blink she was put down and I wasnt even given the chance to be with her while she passed. Immediately following this I was pressured to make a decision about her remains. I just wanted a couple minutes to process what happened and say goodbye to my sweet girl but I wasnt even given that. Although the receptionist was kind and the doctor was professional, there were some overwhelming negatives. The lack of compassion and understanding from the vet tech, Jess, only made this heartbreaking situation so much harder. She was pushy, cold and unsympathetic. In all, it seemed very business-as-usual for them but one of the most tragic days for us.
I couldnt be happier with my experience! I brought my 4 month old boxer mix in for her shots/exam recently and the entire staff was extremely friendly. Everyone clearly loves their job and it shows in how they treat their customers (both the humans and the furry ones). They are very knowledgeable, answered all my questions and even followed up with a hand-written card in the mail. Who does that?? Their prices are very reasonable too, I would say competitive if not even better than anywhere else around. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a vet and will stay with them as long as we are in the area.
My active 4 year old dog had a torn ligament in his right hind leg. We chose a TPLO to correct it. The staff was very nice and understanding. They were compassionate and answered all of our questions in full with complete patience. What I was most impressed with was the physical therapy. It was in a room with a window, in the front of the building and the staff invited us to observe and even assist. Other facilities that we inquired about did not have the same transparency. Sports Vet kept accurate records and ensured we remained on pace for a full recovery.I would recommend Sports Vet to anyone. It was a bit of a drive for us but our pup has had a full recovery with zero issues.
I had my 17wk old puppy fall and get hurt. they were the first people i called and they said to bring her in asap so they can look at her. so i did as i was told, and when i got there so get checked in, the lady at the front desk was very rude. i told her i had just called and i needed my dogs leg looked at. she looked at me and said “well there’s a 2 hour or more wait”. what made me mad was they could’ve told me that over the phone instead of me running in and getting told that it’s gonna be 2 or more hours until she can even be looked over by a doctor. they’re an emergency place for a reason. the animals should be taken back at arrival to be checked out and then go from there. very disappointed and very rude. never again.
We have had our dog seen here 3 times for the same ear infection. Granted our dog is uncooperative, knowing this, we made arrangements to have him sedated so they could treat his ears. So I arrive and they expect me to put a muzzle on our dog with painful ears before they would sedate him. Didnt happen, he wouldnt cooperate and the techs just watched. They refused to sedate him without a muzzle. They should be better equipped and trained to deal with sick and injured animals. Many animals are hard to handle when sick or injured, given our previous trips here They should be been better prepared. They will not see our dogs again and I WILL NOT recommend this vet to anyone! Very poor service, poor bedsidemanner and totally a very unprofessional way to deal with clients, 1/2 star. Thumbs down.
This was my first vet experience as Ive never had a pet before. Im so, so happy that I chose to bring my cat here. The office staff were warm, gracious, and took the time to thoroughly explain the details of Skippers appointment and billing. The Vet himself was phenomenal. I have yet to receive such incredible service from my own doctors. Cost was a concern for me as Id heard horror stories of astronomical vet bills. This clinics prices were extremely reasonable and their service was worth far more than they charged. Im recommending them to every pet owner I know. You will not be disappointed here.
We had to stop at SportsVet one night with our very sick cat while traveling from the East Coast for a family funeral. Dr. Jacobs took his time to kindly and compassionately explain our cats prognosis - something our very expensive vet at home had not truthfully done. Unfortunately, we ended up putting our cat down that night but we are so very thankful for the entire team at SportsVet for their compassion during the entire process.Dr. Jacobs knew that we lived 14 hours away and were not going to become repeat customers, yet he took so much time that night to review our girls medical records and discuss options with us. He allowed us to take our time saying goodbye and mailed us a very kind card.We highly recommend SportsVet for both their compassion and abilities, especially in emergency situations.
I took my beloved Jaina to the Emergency Vet here late at night on 6/5. For bloody stool and pooping lots of straight blood. (This was missed 2 times by previous vet and this was the second opinion i have had to get). Prior to the visit I let them know that she was a handful and would need a muzzle. When I arrived I was given a muzzle to get her ready so the staff could safely do their job. Even though she was fearful they handled her gently and said she did a good job given she was scared.I gave them permission to sedate her to do their job but they were gentle and professional enough it wasnt needed! My vet this evening was Dr. Vandiver and although I talked everyones ear off over the phone with my concerns and thoughts they were patient to listen to my every word. The Dr. suggested a behavior medicine dr and was super informative. Thank you ladies that worked with me to help me push in the right direction.10/10 recommend this establishment to anyone with a fearful dog like my little one they did a great job!
Update 11-21-20 do not recommend for any service whatsoever no customer relations or service just okays and thanks you for unacceptable conduct. First off, Dr. Jacobs seemed helpful and professional. A few of his employees, not so much. I have a big Presa Canario who tore both of his acl’s in his rear legs. I scheduled a checkup with Sportsvet upon getting a recommendation from my vet. Came in for the checkup, staff was nice and helpful. (this was before covid restrictions) I waited about 30 minutes to be seen. They confirmed he had torn his left acl. At this point both were not yet torn. Some time after that visit he tore the right. Not the vets fault, completely on the will power of the dog. Now, the first surgery is scheduled, tplo. We take him in, at this point covid restrictions are on so we called while waiting in the parking lot to give them my dog and half the payment for his surgery, $1,600. This process took about 45 minutes. At this point i was skeptical of their professionalism. At pickup after surgery next day, we also waited around 45 minutes for the payment of $1,600 to be collected. A lady on the phone read something off regarding his medications and surgery details, but she kept running in circles and repeating herself. It seemed like she was purposely wasting time. (I have all calls recorded) I finally asked, “So when am I going to get my dog?” She finished reading the disclaimer and told me to wait by the side door, I proceeded to do so. About 10 minutes go by they bring my dog out who looked very distressed.. The 2 ladies that loaded him into the car kept trying to shove him in while his cone was caught on the headrest. Then they finally just dropped him in there for him to catch himself with the leg that had just been operated on. (my vehicle was facing the same direction as they’re building, my dogs head was facing my car, his right leg was the leg they fixed.) Now i wasnt allowed to help load him because of “covid restrictions“ but the lady that handed us the medications could stick her head into my vehicle to hand me the medicine. After I got him comfortable we drive him home. Upon arrival, (2 hr round trip) I realize they forgot one of his medications I called and spoke with someone that put me to the person that forgot the medication, I believe her name was Ashley, she admitted fault and said i can come pick up the prescription. I told her that i will not be doing that, I will need some sort of compensation for the waste of my time and fuel. Instead, they refused to make this issue right and i had to deal with a crying dog in pain for 2 weeks. Close to his recheck date they call and do a checkup over the phone, I was told this is at the 6 week period. They asked how he was doing and i said he seemed better. They tell me I can let him out of his kennel, which I do not because his left leg is not yet fixed. I give him about a month to relax and I call to schedule his second surgery, got it scheduled for june 30th, 1:30pm. Unfortunately, I had to cancel this date and move it. Upon calling to do so, the person on the phone tells me that his recheck, which was already done, is scheduled for this day and not the surgery. I then told them they had been very unprofessional and then hung up. You would think someone bringing $6,400 cash to a business would get treated right.. I am currently looking for another facility to do his left acl surgery.
Although everyone was polite and upfront about the wait time, it did end up taking half a day for my dog to be seen. When we finally were seen the vet spent so little time with us they quickly said her red eyes were allergy related and didnt do much else but look at her eyes and listened to her heart (even though I said she was acting lethargic and not herself). After two days of worsening symptoms, I took her to her regular vet and she is much more sick than the Sportvet doctor said.On top of this, they were pushing add on items like a retailer would. It wasnt a terribly expensive visit but considering they didnt help her, it was a waste.Maybe they do a better job when they are better staffed but with my dogs life on the line now, I frankly dont care. I would never go back and recommend others avoid it too. Its like an auto shop that doesnt charge much but doesnt fix your car so you are forced to come back.
Dr Jacobs examined my dog when I suspected she may have a luxating patella. He took his time with me and my dog and confirmed she did have a luxating patella. He went on to explain what stage she was at and what the future might hold and what I could do. I had been directed by my veterinarian to go to the Univ of IL for a consultation but I had heard good things about Sports Vet and knew of Dr Jacobs expertise. I am glad I met with him. The staff is kind and caring. I am strongly considering transferring my dogs records to Sports Vet from the vet clinic I have been with for 17 years -- I feel that good about the staff and my experience. As an update to my review above - I did transfer my dogs records to Sports Vet. The personnel there have continually given her compassionate and knowledgeable care. Whether it is bringing my dog in for just a nail trim or whether it is meeting with Dr Jacobs and his orthopedic assistants everyone has worked to make sure my dog has a positive experience. I could not be more pleased with the care given to me and my dog.
Absolutely amazing staff; very friendly, knowledgeable, and patient with pets. Highly accommodating to pets needs and communicates well with owners. My 4 year old GSD is often uneasy around strangers but tends to be more accepting and relaxed (a bit curious) when visiting the clinic. I have and will continue to recommend SportsVet to pet owners!
Theyve been caring for our 9 year old dog since we adopted him at 3 months old. I couldnt be happier with the care hes received. I also boarded him at their new facility. Not only did he have plenty of space (we got the luxury suite, since hes a large dog) and get some time outside, but for the 1st time ever he didnt come home smelling like a kennel. The facilities are new and immaculate. The staff on both the vet clinic and boarding side are outstanding.
Sports Vet has been absolutely amazing every single time weve been here. The vet techs are always incredibly friendly and helpful, and Dr. Jacobs is unfailingly happy, helpful, and reassuring. I got a puppy a few weeks ago, and everyone at the vet has been so kind and excited to see him that he doesnt even mind vet visits. That doesnt even mention that theyre wonderfully efficient, clear, and always happy to help however they can. If you have a question, you can call and get an answer in only a few minutes, and theyre just happy to have your business. As a student, their prices are exceptionally reasonable, and I know that my puppy is getting the best vet treatment in town.Seriously: go to Sports Vet. I want them to have a ton of customers, just because I love them so much and want them to do well.
I took my cat here for emergency services on Sunday for bladder issues. They looked at my cat, did not even flush the bladder and said he was fine and sent home with some pills. The next morning my cat was completely blocked and needed surgery. Not only did this vet charge a huge price for it being the weekend, did not help with the problem, and then i had to take him to another vet less than 24 hours later for emergency surgery. This vet took my money and did not help my pet. My vet that is caring for him now does not understand why they did NOTHING. do not bother they will just let your animal suffer.
Something serious had happened to our sweet outside/inside kitty. We brought him in the next morning which happened to be Easter since this was the only place open. Right away we noticed how nice and clean the facility looked. When we got to our room, they were very thorough and gentle with him. Unfortunately they were not able to save our kitty, as he had some major problems from whatever happened to him. They were able to give him a peaceful passing and also gave us a complimentary clay thing with his paw print and name carved into it. They also notified our normal vet of his passing, and yesterday we received a thoughtful card from the dr and vet tech that helped us with the process. It was and still is so hard losing him, but they made that easier. Also, for an “emergent” visit, it wasn’t as expensive As I thought it would be. I highly recommend this place, and the staff that works here. They are definitely in it for the pets
Dr. Jacobs, the vet technicians, and the reception staff are all amazing and welcoming. They will make you and your pet feel comfortable immediately once you walk in their door! My partner and I are first time kitten owners, and could not be more thrilled about our decision to bring our kittens here. Dr. Jacobs gave thorough answers to our questions, and helpful advice for our kittens. We chose to come here based on recommendations from our co-workers, and the wonderful reviews online. If you choose to go to SportsVet, you will not be disappointed! Their costs are extremely reasonable - this was a concern for us owning two kittens - and it has made our overall pet ownership experience a much better one.
Our smallest pittie, a female was having back problems, we scheduled an appt with Dr Hite. I was a little sceptical about acupuncture and laser therapy but all other things were not working. When we arrived we were in the room in less that 10 minutes. I was amazed that after about 5 min I could actually see Gertie starting to relax and feel better. Dr Hite was amazing between the acupuncture the massage and the laser out Gertie was 100% better. Crow does not taste too bad when things turn out so well, we have been back once since then with the same results, I am now a believer. Unfortunately Gertie has since been confirmed with cancer so now on to another wait and can only hope she can get better. I can only say this Vet Center is the best around, we are from the Mattoon area and willingly make the trip, also Dr Jacobs has performed a couple of surgeries on one of our other pitties and the results are fantastic, out dogs love it there!! Thanks to all the staff and Doctors, they are the best!
I was referred to SportsVet by a friend when I adopted my dog. They have been very helpful and patient in answering all of my questions ever since then. The new facility is extremely nice and I can get appointments quickly. My dog isnt the biggest fan of going to the vet and I always feel a bit bad for his less than ideal behavior, but everyone is very reassuring that hes not too much trouble. I also get my dogs medication from SportsVet - Im sure I could find it for a bit less from some website, but I like knowing that its genuine medication and that Im getting the correct dosage from an actual vet (also, they know about the promotions run by the drug companies to save me as much as possible).
Our dog had a seizure 2 nights ago. She has never had one before and totally scared us. We rushed her in and the people here were amazing. Our Adi is like family to us, so this was so scary and then having to just drop her off due to the virus and leave her was awful. Everyone we interacted with was so helpful and kind. They got Adi in right away and were great about calling to give us updates. I highly recommend them and am grateful to say our girl is doing just fine now :) thank you again!
I started asking around for a good vet in the area, and my friends kept recommending the SportsVet. Im glad they did! My cattle dog has been in to see Dr. Jacobs and Dr. Hites over the last year for both routine care and a minor illness. The veterinarians and support staff have been incredibly friendly, helpful, and knowledgable. No question has been too big or small, and they always treat my dog with care and respect.
We would highly recommend SportsVet and Dr. Jacobs. They always take excellent care of our (crazy) yellow lab, whether hes there for an annual visit, a bath or spending a few nights while were out of town. We always appreciate their honest feedback, and have found them to be very affordable compared to other vets in town. The staff is so friendly, and always greets us by name. Theres a reason our puppy actually looks forward to his vet visit - were so glad to have found SportsVet!
We took our 4 year old rescue pup to SportsVet and would highly recommend them to any and all pet owners. Everyone from the staff at the reception desk to the veterinarians themselves were so friendly and personable, to us and our dog! The vets and assistants displayed great bedside manner and really helped our dog to feel at ease during all the exams and procedures, even the uncomfortable things like his nail trimming and ear cleaning. They answered all our questions and didnt make us feel rushed like so many vets do. On top of it all, we felt their prices were very fair and even slightly under most other vets in town. They even offer a first time visit waiver, so you should absolutely give them a try!
We have been going to Sports Vet since 2009 with our dogs, who have had an a assortment of interesting ailments over the years. Our pets are always handled gently and get delicious treats to help them forget any poking or prodding that may be necessary. Even our sometimes touchy old dog enjoyed his acupuncture treatment, and our fearful dog has been known to give Dr. Jacobs kisses. Great clinic!
This is a truly great vet practice. Dr. Steve Jacobs is phenomenal, the facility clean & the support staff goes above and beyond. We took our 7 year old Newfoundland in for her second very successful TPLO knee surgery (the first one was to correct a surgery that didn’t go well through a different vet clinic). Dr. Steve was extremely patient with us and took time to walk through our options for a large dog with a second knee surgery. We felt like the whole staff was personally invested in our Newfie’s recovery! We Would Highly recommend Sports Vet Animal Medical Center.
Everyone at SportsVet Animal Medical Center is just fantastic and they take excellent care of our pets. The vets and techs are patient and thorough, I never feel as though they are rushed. The women at the front desk are saints and are always kind and accommodating when I call and ask things like, my dog at X, is that a wait it out or bring her in situation? or So, do dogs get hemorrhoids? I think we need an appointment. The wait is also always short which I appreciate and they have reasonable hours. Were big fans!
We just completed our puppy visits and had a wonderful visit at the doggie daycare facility. When you walk in you are greeted by Kendalls smiling face and a great waiting area. Dr. Dillon and her team are so skilled our puppy didnt even know he was being examined. He thought it was play time! Kendall was super helpful in selecting just the right heart worm and flea/tick treatments for our little guy. Thank you everyone!
Very pleased with the service and help given Boomer when I took him in one night after he had vomited and the runs. Kept him overnight to assess the possibility of a bowel blockage. All was well the next morning and I felt good about the experience and the charges were very reasonable for an emergency clinic and hospitalization. Only concern was the lack of followup after I left, no calls or texts asking about him. I always get those from the U of I or my regular vet.
I first went to SPORTSVET about a month ago when my husky pup ate a battery on a Sunday. They told me to bring her right in and they were able to give her meds and she was feeling better in a day, she is also pretty and timid so they gave her her space and worked with her. The next experience I had was last week. My 11 month old German Shepherd had been sick for two weeks and my regular vet kept saying it was just a viral infection he would be fine and giving anti nausea meds. He was still not better at all I knew something else was wrong and took him to SPORTSVET. He was extremely attached to me and not feeling good at all they were so gentle and sweet with him. He ended up being blind in his left eye and had something neurological wrong so they referred us to U of I which is what a good vet does when they can’t figure it out. He needed an mri but ended up getting to and before he could get it and we went back to SPORTSVET to say goodbye to him. They were completely professional and compassionate about the process and gave us as much time as we needed with our sweet boy. They are giving us a clay paw print of us and just days after we received a handwritten card in the mail. My animals will never go anywhere else again!!
We have had nothing short of excellent care from everyone at SportsVet Animal Medical Center. From reception, to technician, to doctor - everyone at SportsVet makes you feel like a VIP and gives you their absolute best. The front desk staff has gone above and beyond to take care of us - even researching where to get certain kinds of drugs for our cat, Jackson. The technicians are always kind and knowledgeable when we bring our cats in for laser therapy. Dr. Hites is phenomenal and every time we visit with her we are in awe of her skills, knowledge, and compassion. The only way I can describe our experience with SportsVet is that they make us feel like we are family. Also, the price is extraordinarily reasonable given the quality of care we have received. We highly recommend this practice if you want excellent, compassionate care for your furbaby.
I have been going to Sports Vet Animal Center since 2000Dr. Jacobs and the staff have cared for three of our dogsover the years. Everyone at Sports Vet shares your joy whenyou bring a new pet home and they share your sorrow whenyou have to put a beloved pet down. Sports Vet is truly a familyto their clients.
I took my dog in for a tooth extraction and cleaning today and Michelle (the vet tech) and Dr. Turek did a great job. Michelle made sure that my dog was well taken care of and walked me through every step of the process both before and after the operation. I am very satisfied with SportsVet.
My dog had torn his ACL, and the treatments offered by my vet (whom Id been going to for over 10 years) werent helping. I was impressed by the clarity and quality of the explanation I got about what was actually happening to his knee, what my options were for addressing it, and what the risks (and costs) of each option were. They also took the time to work with me about scheduling (and to put me on a cancellation list). It seems like a knowledgeable and caring place.
My 42 pound, 6yo FS American Pit Bull Terrier mix had a tibial plateau leveling osteotomy (TPLO) performed by Dr. Jacobs ~4 months ago and we have had fantastic results. Her other knee is showing no signs of trouble, but I would absolutely return to this clinic in the event that her other knee need surgery. The technicians were excellent as well and friendly, kind, and professional to both myself and my dog, who is reactive and not easy to handle in a veterinary setting.Thank you for helping Addison!
My dog and I had an excellent experience at Sportsvet. She had unfortunately eaten something she shouldn’t have, and we needed to visit the office after the regular business hours. From the first person I talked to on the phone all the way through the visit to paying at the end, everyone was kind, caring, and efficient. The bill was very reasonable especially considering it was late in the evening. I was very impressed, and my dog was very well cared for.
We went to a different vet for years, saw my great Dane since he was tiny n that vet never noticed symptoms of a disease he has. Less than 10 minutes with Dr. Dillon and a colleague and he was diagnosed properly! They are truly amazing and really care about the animals that come into their office. We now take all three of our animals there and will never go anywhere else.
SportsVet is an incredible clinic. The new facility is top-notch and pet care is unprecedented. Weve seen both Dr. Jacobs and Dr. Dillon, and they are both amazing, taking the time to sit down with you and really explain and inform you on any questions that you may have. Also, Ashley H. is an absolute delight and extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Weve had nothing but a great experience with the rest of the staff as well! Highly recommended!
I have been going to SportsVet Animal Medical Center for over 3 years now (I have two miniature dachshunds and a cat) and will never go anywhere else, ever.Just by walking in, you can tell that the energy there is great. All of the staff is wonderful, especially Ashley! Shes always so helpful, happy, and patient!Whether its a minor concern or a serious emergency, the staff at SportsVet always works hard to get my animals seen the same day that I call; they even stayed late to wait for me one time!During my pets visits, Dr. Jacobs is present the entire time, and carefully explains everything that hes doing. Before and after each visit, he even takes the time to really bond and build trust with my pets. All of my fur-babies are extremely fond of Dr. Jacobs, especially my cat, Maybel. She just loves him! After my pets exams, Dr. Jacobs thoroughly answers all of my questions, and I usually have A TON. He is always extremely professional, and he never rushes because he wants me to understand whats going on with my pets.I know that my animals health and well-being is always SportsVets number one concern. Dr. Jacobs has even personally called me to make sure that my dachshunds skin irritation was clearing up properly. Out of all of the previous vet clinics that I have been to, I have never had the veterinarian take the time out of his or her day to personally call and check on my animal; the receptionist or one of the vet techs would (maybe) call, but NEVER the veterinarian, and thats how I know SportsVet is different. SportsVet REALLY cares.SportsVet is hands down the best veterinarian clinic that I have ever been to. I would (and do) recommend this clinic to anyone and everyone. My pets love SportsVet, and so do I!
These people are incredible, and their services are even better. We had to take our husky Finn in for having multiple seizures in a 24 hour window, they kept him overnight and quickly gave him much needed immediate care. The rates for his treatment were much better than expected. We will surely look into making these people our primary care vets for Finn. Thank you Sportsvet, you guys are fantastic.
My baby boy Cash who is a 6 month old great dane got hit by a van this week, so sad I know. But I called sports vet and they were waiting for me and called to check up on the ride there. When I got there they got him back to his room before I could even get in the building. Because of them cash is still with me and is on a happy healthy track bCk to his normal life. Thank you so much for caring and loving him as if he was your own. God bless you.
I adopted a kitten from someone I know, and the day I was supposed to pick him up I found out that his mom had been taken to the vet and had fleas and a tapeworm. This is the first pet I have ever owned, so naturally I panicked a bit, and called the office for advice. I was not established yet, but had an appointment to become so in a couple of weeks, but that did not matter to them. I was told to bring him in after I picked him up and they would check him out to see what his treatment options were, if he was big enough for flea medicines. They took their time answering all of the questions a first time pet mom has, and really put my mind at ease. Good news, he was big enough for flea and tapeworm medicine.
So very grateful for their care and compassion as well as skill and expertise. We have older dogs - so, its critical that they be able to be seen right away when they are sick and just as any pet owner, we want the very best care possible for them. We absolutely feel we get that from SportsVet Animal Medical Center.
We moved to the area about 2 years ago. We chose SportsVet for our family vet because of the AAHA accreditation and because of the good reviews. Weve been so happy with them! We have an older dog and also just adopted another older dog and have spent a lot of time with SportsVet recently. They have been really terrific with our dogs and their special needs. We love that Dr. Jacobs and the staff actually talk to our dogs and are very careful and responsive with them. Weve also started seeing Dr. Hites for chiropractic care, which has been a great help. Lastly, SportsVet shares a building with Georgias K-9 Komforts Animal Outfitters, which we use for daycare (theyre great too!) and SportsVet has been great at working with them if one of the dogs needs a quick visit in the middle of the day -- a terrific convenience for us!! Thanks so much SportsVet!!
Ive been taking my pets to SportsVet for a few years now. Its always a little nerve racking to switch vets as I had been going to the one my family used for forever. However, SportsVet has been nothing but fantastic and Im glad that I found such an awesome clinic! I completely trust them in the care of my dogs and cat. Highly recommended!
Chose to go to sportsvet because of a coworkers recommendation and I couldn’t have been happier with the facility and the services they provided. My very active four year old fur child tore his CCL and we chose the TPLO surgery as it was the most definitive surgery to get him as close to his former state. The surgery went well and because we felt so comfortable with the workers and the facility, we decided to do water therapy through them as well. I feel it’s important to share that we live an hour and twenty minutes away, but that is how important it was that we find great providers for such a crucial surgery and recovery. During the course of therapy, sportsvet worked with our schedules and even fit us in at times with late notice. Grateful to share that we have almost reached the end of the recovery phase and Brutus is doing so great. I highly recommend sportsvet if your dog is in need of surgery.
I really enjoy the service I receive when I visit SportsVet. Each time, I am greeted by happy people who are quick to check us in. The doctors and techs that work directly with the animals are caring and attentive to my needs and understanding of what is going to take place once I leave my pet in their care. You can tell that they love what they do and want the best for your pet. I always feel confident that we are in good hands when visiting SportsVet.
I started going to Sports Vet a few years ago when one of my barn cats needed a lump removed. The staff at Sports Vet was so customer service oriented and accommodating to my needs, I moved all 5 of my pets records over and never looked back. Since then, they have continued to provide amazing customer service and veterinary care for my menagerie.
This is by far the best vet. I just moved to Chicago and I am so sad I cant take sports vet with me :( when we first took our pup there at 6 weeks they were so amazing with her and we even received a hand written note from the doctor. Their customer service is amazing. Everytime I call they are beyond helpful and give me their most honest help and opinion instead of just telling me what to do that costs more. It is SO refreshing to go to a place that genuinely cares about my baby and will go above and beyond my expectations. They are reasonablely priced and quick with results. Everyone there is nice, happy, and helpful. It makes it worth the 2 hour drive to go back for a visit as long as its not an emergency. We love sports vet, look no further because this is by far the best vet in IL!
What can I say sports vet are without any doubt the greatest..jack our fantastic golden retriever had knee surgery approx a year agoDr Jacobs was caring and addressed all of our questions ,never in a hurry . Surgery went along without any problems. Jack, who is now 10, and Sheryl and myself are forever grateful to Dr Jacobs and his staff...
I can’t imagine why people rate this place almost 5 stars! The front desk agent is rude on the phone, let us wait for 2 hours when we take our dog there because of an emergency. We were waiting out in our car, in the heavy rain for long time. Left because can’t wait anymore and our puppy is feeling worse, the staff there, did not even say sorry for the wait or anything at all. We would pay for service, we are not beggars. Treat your customers better
You wont find better Veterinary care anywhere. I cant begin to say enough wonderful things about SportsVet. I am a long time animal lover/caregiver who has lived in multiple states, with animals that have had various medical issues and have therefore used numerous veterinary practices. SportsVet is at the top of my list.Being new to this area, I was looking for a vet for my 11 yr old Jack Russell Terrier who has numerous health issues including epilepsy. I wanted to interview some practices before committing to a wellness visit. So I stopped in to speak with the staff. Katie, who is the Office Manager, was very courteous, professional and knowledgeable. She was more than willing to answer ALL of my questions regarding their practice philosophy, pricing, hours, staffing, and listen to my needs. Everywhere else I had called or stopped in had treated me as if I was an inconvenience to them by asking questions regarding potentially becoming their client. Katie won my business on the spot. Then when Spike and I went in for her first visit, we were treated to more excellent, compassionate, kind care. Dr. Jacobs was great with Spike (who has come to hate going to vets as she has had to go frequently) and was very willing to discuss her complex medical history as well as my current needs. The vet techs and support staff were wonderful as well. And a bonus to the wonderful care is that their pricing is VERY reasonable!!! Go to see them, you wont be disappointed.
Awesome! I can not say enough GREAT things about SPORTS VETS. Daisy has gone twice now for a regular appointment and to urgent care. Both doctors were AMAZING!! They did full exams, answered all my questions, and took their time as if we were the only patients. Best part is we now have a treatment plan in place that I understand and I am comfortable with. Great experience and so affordable! Urgent care was only $47 and my appointment today was $35. AMAZING!!!!!!!! Thank you!!!
We have a indoor out door cat that came in injured. The next day it was peeing bloody urine and we took him in. He is a mean cat bites and scratches. and would not let the doctor examine him. She did get him up on his feet. Since sedation for x rays was beyond our ability, she to;d use everything to watch for and how to care for him and sent us home with pain meds and suggestions on how to keep him more comfortable. I was very pleased with the care. The cat is fine now. He is also and indoor cat.
When our cat passed away, they were very good about helping us with the grieving and options for him. We were thinking about switching vets because they’re much closer than our current vet. However, they quoted over $400 for a simple neuter for my 25 pound, 8 month old dog! That’s completely outrageous. HIGH range is usually $250 in major cities. Around $100 is average. I’m not asking for them to gold plate him, for crying out loud. I’d hate to ask what their spay fee is. It’s possible they’re great vets, but that’s entirely out of the price range of the average person, especially if their other fees are similarly ridiculous.
Just going to take a minute to brag about these guys! Sports Vet is literally the BEST vet I have been to ever. They are not only extremely efficient, but they get it right the first time and make sure that youre with them every step of the way. I also have to give the receptionist Kendall 5 stars too, I know its not always easy talking with people all of the time, but you made me feel so welcome and not crazy for having 6 cats! Dr. Dillon, Rachel and Michelle always make me feel so welcome and I know the cats love them too! Thank you for giving me a place to take my babies where I know they will be loved like they are at home, I couldnt ask for a better vet or service.
I first took my dog to Sports Vet because he was in pain and needed chiropractic care. The Vet treated him as if he were her own. I continue taking my dogs, there because one is over weight and the Vetr put him on Thyroid meds, which I have been asking other vets to do but always got a no. His is losing weight and feeling much better. These Vets listen to the pets owners because they know you know your animal better than they do. The staff is friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this business to anyone with pets.
I wanted to write a review about how week SportsVet took care of me through a difficult time. 7 months ago I got the call from SportsVet to pick up my dog Meekos Ashes. I was nervous to go pick them up because I didn’t know what type of container they would be in. I was so touched to see the great care they took with my dog Meeko. They had a beautiful wood engraved box for her remains and a clay paw print for me. They also clipped some of her hair and put it in a bag for me to put on my memory wall for her. They showed such respect for us when we took her in when she was sick and took such great care afterwards as well. I will always be grateful to SportsVet for how they took care of Meeko and my family during such a difficult time for me. I would recommend them to anyone. They took many calls from me at all hours of the day or night and talked me through some dark and scary times with Meeko during her seizures. God bless the team that works there. They wrote me a card and sent it in the mail a week later. It meant so much to me the kind words they expressed over everything that happened with my dog.
Our first introduction to Dr. Hites was here in Bloomington where both of dogs were seeing her for chiropractic sessions. Dr. Hites proved she wasnt just a chiropractor but a fantastic vet. We have gone down to the clinic in Savoy a few times now for various needs and we put 100% of our trust in Dr. Hites and in SportsVet Animal Medical Center. Thank you all ever so much for what you do for our beloved pets.
My Veterinary Clinic highly recommended SportsVet for my girls double TPLO surgery. From the moment we walked in, I knew we were in great hands. Dr. Jacobs & his Staff are outstanding. We received wonderful care. Wynnie can not wait to get there for her treadmill therapy, she is completely at ease. SportsVet is a real asset to the Champaign area.
I recommend ONLY Sports vet with the care of your pets! Sports vet has an amazing staff and a very welcoming environment! They’re loving and very considerate when it comes to my fur babies!! Their prices are very reasonable and Sports vet gives 100% every time they see my animals! Not one bad thing about them except they don’t deal with snakes! Maybe one day! (:
When I first read all these positive reviews, I couldnt believe a vet center could really be that good. But, trust me, they are. Unbelievably friendly, thoughtful, and down-to-earth. All of the staff clearly care about the pets that come in, and our vet gave us excellent advice on how to help us get our cats weight down (that didnt involve lots of expensive food). We wont be going anywhere else.
My crazy Lab puppy had her first chiro visit with Dr. Hites today. What a wonderful experience. Dr. Hites and the SportsVet staff were all very friendly and welcoming. I loved that Dr. Hites took the time to answer all my questions and in a way I could understand. We will definitely be back!I used Dr. Jacobs for my previous Lab when she had TPLO surgery and rehab a few years ago. The experience then was also wonderful. Such knowledgeable, caring people. This is such a fantastic vet clinic.
My husband and I are from out of town and were visiting family. We unexpectedly had to take our dog to the vet. We were seen very quickly as a walk-in! They treated our dog with great care and attention. They were quick in diagnosing her and getting her appropriate treatment.
SportsVet takes such wonderful care of my pups Thor and Freyja! Dr. Jacobs and his staff are very knowledgeable and caring and we trust them with every ailment and checkup! Dr. Hites knows just how to align Thors back and she is so good with him that he thinks he is getting a massage. When our mini doxie Cleo passed away over a year ago, they were so kind and helped us through the process every step of the way. We highly recommend them for not just specialized care but for general health and well being and will continue to bring our pups to SportsVet! I just need to figure out how to get SportsVet to convince my husband that we need five (or ten) more dachshunds...
Weve had several dogs of the family whove been Sports Vet patients, including the latest pups - see the photo of Dr. Jacobs holding both Declan and Finley (the golden retrievers). Not only do Dr. Jacobs and the entire staff provide top-notch care, they are genuine animal lovers who always go the extra mile to make pets and owners comfortable. Its a happy place to visit.
From the moment you walk in the door, you can tell the staff members really care about you and your pets. Everyone here goes above and beyond. They are gentle, patient, and very friendly. Weve been coming here for years and we trust SportsVet to always provide exceptional care. Thank you!
Took my dog in after hours for hives and ear problem. They told me initial cost would be 75.00. No problem with that But when my dog wasnt even approached for exam, thats when it became a problem. Nobody came within 3 feet of him. They looked and prescribed. These are people that deal with animals every day and my dog growls and they stay back. Very disappointed with visit, not to mention it cost 160.00 by the time we left.
If I could give zero stars I would. The person who answered the phone told us to rush there so that they could treat our dog. We rush there from an hour away (driving 80+) & they tell us they need a case number from ASPCA and refused to treat our dog who ingested toxins. Absolutely ridiculous and I will never recommend them or go back there ever again.
Y’all don’t trust them they killed my kitten that was 7 weeks. They gave me the wrong stuff to give him. Told me lies about his health. They just wanted money from me. I went to a different vet and they told me everything that was wrong with him and said he was suffering. He had to get put down. Y’all do to much. Hope you live a great life!!! And on top of that the lady at the front desk was rude and the people that checked him out. I wish I read these reviews before. He died in June. To be honest I hate y’all. y’all should stop and find a new thing to do with ur life instead of killing animals and lying.
We had to go in on a Sunday with our boy who was at the end of his life and needed a peaceful transition. The staff were so caring and lovely through what was a very difficult and emotional time. We and our boy were treated with such care. His passing was so peaceful. We cant thank SportsVet enough for everything they did for our boy and for us that day.
Dr. Jacobs and the entire staff at SportsVet contributed to Hunnys successful bilateral TPLO surgical experience. The information provided before her surgery, updates the day of the procedure, and support during her recovery and physical therapy resulted in a dog on her way to resuming a very active and athletic schedule and owners thankful for her physical restoration and continued quality of life. The CU area is very fortunate to have a veterinary practice such as this in our own backyard. Welcoming, compassionate, knowledgeable, friendly, fun, and fantastic! Pets are Family and deserve the best. Look no further than the good people at SportsVet.
I had a very strange situation!! I ordered medication for my dog, which cost 10 cents per pill. I ordered 3 pills. The charged me 9$ instead of 30 cents!!Think twice when you order medication from them!Another situation was when I came with a sick dog and did 424$ exams, and then I was told that they don’t know what’s wrong with a dog, he has some inflammation, and proscribed antibiotics for 15 $.So, why did I spent 425$ without getting even diagnose? Guess next time I will just ask for pills without exam:)
My Boxer/Pit Bull mix, Jasmine received her first TPLO surgery for her torn ACL in April and the same surgery for her other leg in October and is healing wonderfully. Shes on the fast track to a successful surgery! This is all thanks to the fantastic staff and wonderful service at SportsVet; you all are amazing! Dr. Jacobs is the sweetest man and has such a huge heart for animals. --and he is incredibly talented! I know that my girl is always in the best hands possible. I have recommended Sportvet and Dr. Jacobs to my friends and family, because ALL animals deserve the incredible treatment he and his staff provides. Thank you all so much for taking care of my Jazzy girl and getting her back on the path to a happy, healthy life!
The quality of healthcare services provided to my cat by the team at SportsVet has been excellent. Dr. Jacobs and his staff are highly competent, professional, and experienced, and do a great job putting themselves in the shoes of the pet owner while at the same time providing compassionate care to animals. I highly recommend SportsVet to those in in and around Urbana-Champaign looking for a great vet.
Everyone at SportsVet is extremely nice & helpful! They are always so happy to see my pup and they are so good with him and great with offering advice and answering questions. The front desk staff is wonderful and always makes our visit and great one! My pup loves going to the vet!
Dr. Susie Hites is the best chiropractor/vet that you will find! She’s worked on several of my dogs with amazing results. Dr. Hites listens, observes, and is very thorough in her interactions with the animal client as well as its owner. I can’t say enough glowing praises about Dr. Hites. This area is so very fortunate to have her and her expertise. My friends out of this area are so envious. Sportsvet AMC is a beautiful facility, but Dr. Hites is the reason I bring my dogs there.
Just want to add another glowing tribute to Dr Jacobs and the Sports Vet staff. We are owned by an eight year old yellow lab who was having extreme difficulty with mobility due to knee issues. We were referred to Dr Jacobs by another vet. Made an appointment and Elle was examined by Dr Jacobs who explained the cause of her problems. Ultimately she underwent bilateral TPLO surgery which was very successful! The recuperation time is tough on everyone. It is a slow process and, yes, I had many questions. The entire staff, including Dr Jacobs, was very patient answering questions and explaining things. We are so very appreciative of that.Well, the healing process is complete and she runs like the wind again. No limping or pain to be seen. We postponed our Florida vacation until we knew she could run and play in the surf again. She had a wonderful time in September! Very thankful we found Dr Jacobs and Sports Vet!
The primary reason I chose SportsVet to have a dental cleaning for my eleven year old, five pound Yorkie, was because of the AAHA accreditation. Dental cleanings for a senior/geriatric small dog with an elevated kidney reading is a huge risk so the trusted veterinarians with certified veterinarian technicians in a modern facility with an on sight laboratory, all of which the AAHA accreditation guarantees, was essential for me. All went very well and I look forward to future visits with my pets.
Our 8 year old female Lab needed a surgical consult for a torn CCL. Unfortunately, because of COVID, we were unable to go in with her. Dr Jacobs called us with information and was very thorough in his explanation. I have spoken with the front desk and with Emily. Everyone has been very helpful. Im glad we have this service available.
I love this clinic & its staff. Im always seen quickly and Dr. Hites integrative approch to Vet Medicine is a breath of fresh air. My dog sees her on a regular basis for Chiropractic & acupuncture. I also have a cat that is hyper-thyroid and her integrative approch with his care has allowed him to stay with us much longer than we thought we would have him. I cannot say enough positive things about the Dr. Hites & the entire staff. If they do not have the answer they will find out and call you back in a timely manner. I highly recommend going to see them.
Dr Jacobs performed surgery on my dog Bellas knee. Prior to surgery, they gave me every single piece of information that I might possibly need. They took the time to answer every question. Afterwards, Bella had some issues with her stomach due to the pain meds and antibiotics, so I called the office A Lot! They were absolutely wonderful! They took the time to listen to me and walke through what to do. I cant recommend this place enough! Excellent customer service!
I went here late at night with my sick cat, Salem. He had been throwing up really bad for days and they helped him beautifully. They were extremely kind and gentle with him and Ive never seen him so at ease at a vets office. They tested everything they could and couldnt find anything wrong with him except high potassium, but they gave him fluids, anti nausea meds, and something to flush out some of the potassium. Hes great now. Back to his old self! Im under the impression that he ate something he shouldnt have. Naughty kitty!
At first they were very helpful but then I feel like they just didn’t care about following up and Taking care of my dog. Always had an excuse why they didn’t return my calls or do what they said they were going to do for me. Still waiting on some biopsy reports which they were suppose to let me know how long it would take to get the results. That was a week ago. They have to much going on and they are not organized. I will not go back
We have been exceptionally fortunate to discover SportsVet Animal Medical Center. As parents of a 3-year old Chihuahua named Rusty whose knee caps refuse to stay in place, we sought advice from veterinarians in St. Joseph and at the University of Illinois Veterinary Clinic. Both told us that Rusty would probably develop arthritic knees later in life if his existing situation was not corrected. We certainly dreaded putting energetic little Rusty through the ordeal of surgery and the long period of confinement during his recovery. We spoke to a trusted friend, Connie Wilson, who grooms two of our other dogs about Rustys situation. She suggested that we should consider getting another opinion from a veterinary clinic that specializes in orthopedic surgery - SportsVet and its surgeon Dr. Steve Jacobs. We were instantly impressed by the welcoming atmosphere created by the the staff at SportsVet and by the faith and confidence that Dr. Jacobs instilled in us. We made an appointment before we left and began preparing special accommodations and treats for Rusty that would help ease him through his long convalescence. Of course, we dreaded bringing Rusty the morning of his scheduled surgery. We left him at 7 am and then waited to hear about the outcome . At 9 am Dr. Jacobs called to tell us that his careful examination of Rustys knees during the preoperative sedation revealed that surgery would not remedy Rustys special condition. He did, however, advise us to watch Rustys weight and to supplement his diet with glucosamine and chondroitin sulfate. We were so relieved that a non-invasive solution could at least ameliorate Rustys condition.Someone else could have performed the surgery, and we would never have realized that it was not only unnecessary but also probably detrimental. We are so indebted to Dr. Jacobs for his honesty and integrity. He sacrificed a surgical appointment and the income from that appointment. Instead he saved ebullient little Rusty from the pain and debilitation of a surgery that could easily have impeded rather than enhanced his mobility. Rusty was playing and frolicking this morning after yesterdays cancelled surgery. If he had realized how fortunate he has been to be a patient at SportsVet, he certainly would have played even more exuberantly.
We had an all around great first experience at Dr. Jacobs office....The staff was very friendly and kind. Dr. Jacobs took time to listen to all of our concerns with our new puppy and answered all of our questions. The environment was clean and welcoming. What a great experience....Thank You!!
Went here for my new dogs first check up. Fairly cheap but it seemed like the vet was more concerned about getting us in and out, which is nice, dont get me wrong, but I didnt feel like they wanted to get to know my dog in terms of how hes doing, medical history, etc. Could have just been my perception but overall a good place.
I was double charged for services because I pulled my credit card out too quickly. I called when I discovered this and was told my bank has to fix it. Call the bank to be informed that they must fix it or I have to dispute the charge and wait 120 days!!! Call back and was told I have to wait again for the manager to decide if shell give me my money back and shell be in touch! Absolutely ridiculous!!!!
I wouldnt recommend this place to my worst enemy absolutely garbage none of the vets new what they were doing. We would ask what they thought we should do and all they had to say was I dont know. Do not take any animal here unless you want it to die. It wasnt even worth the drive. Absolutely rude people working. I wouldnt trust these people with anything with a heartbeat...if I could put 0 stars I would...
I would highly recommend this place. The staff is beyond friendly, and extremely professional. I came in with all kinds of questions and left with all of them answered. I was even lucky enough to have one of the staff members take some pictures of my puppy that looked professionally done! My puppy and I love the place.
We went in at 2am to get our 6 month old pitbull checked out as he had been vomiting and had diarrhea with a good amount of blood in it. Our first thought was that he got ahold of something and we were afraid he might have some damage that we could not see. As soon as we walked in, the nurse was rude and pushy. Our puppy was not very excited to get on the scale and as I was trying to get him to stand on there, she picked him up by his leash so by his neck and threw him on the scale, not even asking for our help. We went into the exam room and she asked us some questions about him and did a quick exam. We waited about 10 minutes for the vet to come in and she checked the same things that the nurse did. After that she said that there was nothing noticeable and that he is stable. When we asked her what to do, she kept saying that she didnt know. She gave us the option of blood work and x rays or to give him fluids and anti nausea medice. She kept saying she didnt know what to do and she didnt have a crystal ball to know and have us no opinion whatsoever. We decided on the fluids and medication. Instead of giving him the shot and fluids to absorb in the room with us, she insisted on taking him to the back and doing it without us. We could hear him crying from the other room. We paid and left and everything was normal but as soon as we got home, our puppy could barely walk. He was stumbling terribly as if he was drunk and couldnt even get a drink out of his water bowl without me holding him up. When my boyfriend called to ask what was happening, since they didnt explain any side effects to us, all they could say is that they didnt know why that was happening and to bring him back. We are now sitting here at 5 in the morning waiting for our day vet to open so we can make sure he is okay. Moral of the story is, dont EVER take your animal here. It was the worst service and we paid 200 dollars to have no answer for our puppy.
Went in about 2 hours ago do to the fact that my dog got hit by a car and needed to be seen as soon as possible! My dog is having a lot of trouble walking and he has multiple scars on his left foot, right foot, mouth, and face. He isnt good and his left leg is only getting worst! The left leg is swollen and I personally think it got ran over by the wheel of the car when he got hit! I didnt know where else to go so I choose to come here sense its open 24 hours on the weekend. I went in with my pitbull and the front desk lady was already afraid of him. He wasnt doing anything but you could see she wasnt trying to get near him because she wouldnt even help me out him on the scale! I dont blame her I didnt want her help either because I know my dog and he would have probably got aggressive if she would have laid a hand on him! After that I went in the room and my big baby was getting upset in that little room, he wasnt feeling good hes still in pain and they took forever! As Im waiting for the doctor to come in the room and take a look on my dog, she also gets surprised at the fact that my dogs a pitbull she isnt trying to get near him and she even told me to push him back so he couldnt get near her. My dog is aggressive so again I dont blame her either. My dog doesnt even get physically checked. All the doctor does is look at him from a distance and tells me that his leg could just be swollen or fracture as if I didnt know that already. She only told me stuff I already knew but then again she didnt even want to get near him. If Im paying for him to get examined the lady should taken a closer look at him, touch him or do what she had to so he could get the equal check up as any other dog would. I paid 88 dollars for that check up that was done about 5 feet away from my dog. My dog didnt get his scars cleaned or bandaged which is one of the other reasons why I dont think I should have paid. The doctor also said she couldnt do anything. She didnt give me any options like x rays or anything because she said she needed a bigger person do to what kind of dog it was! My dog is so loving and is honestly only a big baby!! I am devastated because I dont know where to go. NEVER AGAIN WILL I GO INTO THAT PLACE AGAIN!! Ive never been treated so poorly!
Took Mr. Meowth in for an extra large neck abcess today.Usually can handle on our own.But this was an awfully large one.The folks at Sportvet had it cleared in about an hour and meds to go.Thanks again folks.Whether Awesome Sauces hip or Mr. Meowths infections these folks aee wonderful!
This place is a fantastic resource. Ive used it twice, both times it was over the weekend, the normal vet (who is also fantastic) was out, and my pet(s) were in very bad pain. Both times the Animal Emergency Clinic helped my pet(s), solved the problem, and was very kind and understanding in doing it. I was very happy, and Im sure if they could, my pets would thank them too. The first time, one of my cats broke one of her canine teeth. She was in massive pain, couldnt eat, and jumped in pain every few moments. It was 10PM on Saturday night. I took her to the Animal Emergency Clinic, and they immediately scheduled for tooth removal, put her on meds, and within a day or two my cat was back to normal 100%. Most recently, I was helped by a tech named Meg, she was totally awesome, and I knew my concerns for my pet were odd, and I was wondering if I was over-reacting. But she completely understood my concerns, and gave me advice, and it helped my pet 100%. Thank you!!! I will use Animal Emergency Clinic without reservation in the future.
Visited at the new 24/7 facility with SportsVet... beautiful facility, great service, and incredible care of my dog Khloe. She was very sick and I didnt know what was going on with her so took her in immediately. The vets explained everything and all the tests that they were running to figure out what was going on with her and ensured she had great care and that I understood everything. Definitely my new go to for any urgent or emergency care for Khloe!
Thank you to Scott for helping us with an emergency over the phone. After calling our regular vet and getting the on call vet (who was not a friendly person and acted like I was inconveniencing his sleep), Scott was fabulous. Hopefully the rest of our night is ok and so is the next few days.
My husband and I were new to the area and when our cat hurt her foot and she was screaming in pain this was the first place we founf online. They were wonderful. Our cat was not easy to deal with due to the pain and confusion they were sweet to her anyway and understanding and made us feel comfortable. We would go to the Dr. regularly if she were a regular vet!
This place is a joke! I took my 5 1/2 year old husky in because she wasnt her self. When we got there they told me she would have to stay over night so they could do observations. $700 later they said she was acting brand new that night, she wasnt because when i got her into the car she started doing the same thing. I took her to her usual vet later that day because something didnt feel right. I wasnt in the doctors office 5 mins before they said she needs surgery. They had to do emergency surgery on her because he uterus was infected. If I wouldnt of got her in then she would of died. These people could of fixed my baby but instead they charged me a ridiculous amount and would of let her die.
I had to bring my dog Howie in with multiple symptoms, lethargic, flinching, and leaking urine. I was freaked out! Vet knew right away what it was and Howie was treated over night with iv fluids. By morning he was doing much better. Thank you very much for your service to this community and beyond.
Worst service ever.No patience at all.Very rude to both the little ones and customers. When we asked them questions, they replied very impatiently and even rolled their eyes. If they left the room, they just slap the door loudly.Fee is ridiculously high while their skill is a joke. They don’t even use lubricating oil while taking temperature for the little ones. When we want some further explanation, they said the only way is to do the “700 dollar service”, which was completely unnecessary and a pure suffering for our baby in this case.If you love your baby just don’t take them there.

2022-07-07I took my dog in for severe diarrhea and vomiting the other day and I had no idea what to do. As soon as she was able to get looked at, everyone treated my dog, fennel so nicely and took such good care of her. ❤️ My expectations were beyond exceeded. She is doing so much better and they gave such good advice for someone who felt helpless. I’m so very thankful for the staff. You guys are amazing!! I will definitely be coming here next time there’s ever an emergency!!

2022-07-18I have been to this vet twice now, the first time I unfortunately had to have my cat euthanized. However, the care my little buddy and I received here was phenomenal. The second experience was excellent as well. Everyone I have interacted with in this facility seems to genuinely care about animals which is very important to me! They are a little pricey (but in my experience willing to work with your budget and suggest care credit as an option if needed), but if you are looking for a place where you will truly feel like the people care about your pets just about as much as you do, this is definitely it!

2022-06-01Not the kind of review I would want to have to write but the staff at Sports Vet is so amazing they deserve it. A couple of weeks ago our beloved cat Freddie suddenly passed away. Not being in this area for a long time and never having had to deal with a death of a pet since living in Illinois we really had no idea of where to turn for cremation services. SV is very close to our home so we called them thinking if nothing else they’d point us in the right direction. The woman I spoke to on the phone was kind and helpful, she told me to bring Freddie in and they would help. Once there they directed my daughter and I into a private room to say our goodbyes to Freddie, we were wrecks but they were kind and sympathetic. The vet took Freddie and got a paw print on clay for us to take home that day, she was also very gentle and kind with us! The cremation was affordable and about a week later we had his ashes in a beautiful wooden box with his name engraved into a plaque, they also mailed us a sympathy card. From beginning to end they were so compassionate to what we were going through and we’ll never forget it!

2022-04-25Staff is super friendly and Dr. Jacobs thoroughly explains each surgery offered, what to expect, and how it benefits your dog for future years. CVT Emily is also amazing on answering questions and explaining all recovery care once your pup is home. Highly recommend!

2022-06-09Sports Vet has taken care of two of my dogs who have needed several extensive surgeries. They have done a wonderful job and I feel completely comfortable putting my furbabies in their care. Also, even after both dogs have had surgery they are still excited to walk into the building which I feel says a lot about the care they received there. Highly recommend💕

2022-05-04We had to take our cat here a few months ago and the care was excellent. A few days ago, the same issue arose with him and was more severe. My own vet isnt available for emergencies anymore so I called this clinic again. I was informed that their vet had left at 9pm but they could see our cat at 8am the next morning. This is not 24 hour emergency care, as advertised. Thank God I found a vet in my area who was willing to see him, even though we werent established clients, and he was hospitalized for 3 days. We are now new patients of this caring veterinary practice and know that we can count on them in emergencies.

2022-07-06Our dog just had TPLO surgery and its scary, but Dr. Jacobs and the staff are so very sweet and knowledgeable. They are always there to answer any questions, especially if I call every day! The surgery went very well and her incision looks phenomenal! We have a 12 week recovery and Im comforted in knowing they are gonna be there every step of the way! Thank you so much Sportsvet for everything.
