SGD DUBU SO GONG DONG TOFU & KOREAN BBQ in other cities:
This restaurant has been on my list of places to try for quite some time and Im glad to say it was very worth it. I enjoyed the vegetable soon dubu jjigae and all of the side dishes included. I was also very satisfied with the service and the staff were very friendly.
Such a good find. We came in with only about 20 mins to be able to eat and run. Told the hostess our issue and she recommended a regular bibimbap. Was seated right away and given tea, water and side dishes immediately. Bibimbap was quick and tasty. We were in and out. Will definitely come back and try their other dishes.
Often customers. I waited 3 days to calm down and see what I can phrase in a better was. New female worker was RUDE. I went in and said for 2. I’m not sure she didn’t hear or just ignored me. So she asked again I let my husband handled her. Sat down and she had some nasty attitude when she put the tea down. I looked at her and said “what’s YOUR problem?” She just walked away and didn’t respond. I told my husband that none of male workers were rude like her. We decided walked out without ordering anything because of her.
Good service, great food. The bento box specials are so good and have plenty of food. Appetizer dishes are plentiful and you have to try the banana milk. The place is clean and set up for social distancing and have hand sanitizer when you enter and leave. They do require that you were a mask when interacting with the employees. No problem!
This place is to die for. I love Korean food and have tried plenty of places but this takes the cake. The service is amazing but the food is even better. The Seafood Pancake is crispy and full of flavor. The Bibimbop was fresh and delicious (my husband isnt the most adventurous eater and he loved it)! I cannot wait to come back!!
Went there last night for the second time and was not disappointed. The place was busy but the staff was quick and on top of things. They were able to get people seated and tables cleaned very efficiently and effortlessly.Overall the experience was great and we cannot wait to go back. Good casual dining. Some of the best side dishes we have had at a Korean restaurant. The bulgogi was delicious as was everything. We would reccomend to anyone who is a fan of Korean or wanted to try some Korean food. Next time we are looking to try one of the tofu soups.
The food is just amazingly authentic. We order the ramen soup, pork bulgogi and bibimbap. All the food was very very good and the portions are generous. The kimchi is as well very authentic. We really enjoyed all the dishes and can’t wait to go back. The Sevice is very quick and excellent as soon as one accompanied small food is finish they will refill it for you.If you like Korean food this is your place
Amazing Korean cuisine at very reasonable prices. The menu is small and focuses on sizzling BBQ meat plates, cold noodle dishes and soondobu. Get the hot place or stone rice bowls - its worth it! Absolutely delicious and worth the trip. Service is also prompt and friendly. Everyone there is Korean - a sure sign thats its delicious and authentic!
Wow. This place surprised me. Everything was amazing. For comparison I always thought 92 town was the best Korean in Schaumburg (and its certainly great), and BBQ hut also has solid Korean as well. So Gong Dong was So Damn Good. Even the Kim chee appetizer is the same quality that we buy from HMart- not the typical soggy overpowering chemical flavor type that you get at most Korean restaurants, but instead a cool crisp perfect flavor Kim chee. The other appetizers and the entire arrangement of items in the bentos that we had were all truly outstanding.
This place is absolutely amazing! If you are in the area, and you are craving some really good Korean food, stop to eat here! Especially if you are looking to have some great kimchi jjigae.I really like the feel and the decor of this restaurant. The colors and decorations are subtle giving off a relaxed atmosphere vibe. The interior is not very bright, but I think it works in their favor because the lighting has been carefully chosen in such a way as to never make you feel that it is too dark. The service has been great every single time Ive gone. They are quick, professional, and friendly. Now to the most important thing, the food! It may seem odd, but I really want to talk about the rice first, because more than anything, this is what impressed me the most. The rice that is brought is stunning! It looks so exquisite and it has such a nice white color, that it appears to be glistening. I tried as best as I could to capture the beauty of the rice through the lens, but I dont think I did it justice. It not only looks fantastic, but it tastes wonderful as well.Im a huge fan of kimchi jjigae and I am happy to say that this place does not disappoint at all. It is flavorful, bountiful, and has the perfect amount of spice. Of course, paired with the rice, it makes for an unbelievably delicious combination.I also want to mention the kimchi cucumbers. Ive never had cucumbers that tasted so good! They blended the perfect amount of sweet and spicy. Definitely try those as they are a complimentary dish.
My friend told me about this place and i saw a few of his pics. So i had to go. I was not disappointed. Small front of building, but many seats in their extened elongated dinning room. Food and service were excellent. I ordered the hot stone plate. Very cool. Kept my food warm up until the time i placed my left overs in a to go box. Will be back soon.
Korean stew, bibimbap, and barbecue. Only three main items on the menu, but you know what they say... do a few things and do them well. Thats exactly what So Gong Dong does. I thought the food was very good on my first visit, but you could have also asked one of the several Korean families that were also dining that evening. I think that speaks volumes to the quality of the food, especially since Im quite inexperienced in regards to Korean fare. Lots of vegetarian options. Give it a try!
We went there on a recommendation and we were pleasantly surprised. We tried Korean food for the first time and it was delicious! The prices were very reasonable, the service was good and the atmosphere was nice too. Overall we had a great experience and will be back.
Stumbled upon this place while going to IKEA. The place looks very modern and clean. The staff is very nice and friendly. Offered a variety of choices for your tofu soup. Had the spicy kimchi tofu soup with rice in a hot stone bowl. Definitely recommend the rice in the bowl cause it gets the rice crispy. Good amount of side dishes came with the meal. Overall a great experience plenty of food for the price. Would definitely come back and recommend to others as well.
Ate here for years love the food. Always spend $100+ a ticket. They choose to ask for families medical information. I am not ok sharing that info and choose not to support businesses that ask for that information. By the looks of the restaurant they were struggling for business but yet they are whiling to refuse service.
SGD had great service, great food, and best of all, great prices! We were seated immediately and got really delicious banchan. I got the stone bowl bibimbap and the portion was huge and delicious! The service was super quick and they refilled banchan without us ever asking.
Servings are very generous and the meal comes with 6 or so sides of various vegetables and kimchi. Everything was fresh and tasty. I just wish there had been more explanation as to what everything was. As a first timer to the restaurant and korean food in general, I could have used some guidance. Id definitely go again though!
Note: They stop service at 9:20pm.This has become one of my favorite restaurants—I love the mushroom tofu hot pot snd the pickled radish side dish. Most of the time the service is excellent. I appreciate that they are open later than most places, but I do wish they were a little more flexible on their 9:20 end of service. All the dishes we’ve tried have been good, and it’s worth going out of my way for a meal there. It was a real lifesaver when I was restricted to only soft food between dental visits! Tasty tofu!
Food was great. The servers were friendly and helpful with the menu. I got the beef bulgogi. It was good and flavorful. The beef shortribs were amazing and I would recommend that over the bulgogi. It was tender and seasoned perfectly. The sides were all great. I would recommend this place. Parking is ample. Restaurant is clean. Food is more on the pricey side, but it is quality food and a good serving size.
I’ve lost count how many times I’ve frequent this place and how many times I’ve brought newcomers over. I’ve had plenty of date nights and girls nights here and never has there been a time where I felt unsatisfied in their flavors or service.Of course you would come here for the Soondubu tofu soups (it’s what they’re known for, their tofu are the silkiest and softest), but they also have bibimbap, bulgogi beef (my favorite), short ribs and delicious seafood pancake appetizers (my other favorite). Even with pandemic prices surging up, I feel really good supporting establishments like this. They are very generous with their ban chan refills (if you don’t know what these are, then you haven’t had the Korean dining experience). My family can’t get enough of the fish cakes can chan, while I’ll literally ask to take home leftovers ban chan of chili cucumbers and kimchi. We last were on a cold winter’s day and the soondubu soup hit the spot for my cravings. I usually get it with seafood (another favorite), mild spice and with kalguksu noodles. It’s just the best! This is probably one of my favorite noodle dishes besides Pho and Tom Yum Noodle Soups (yes, throw in all the Asian noodles soup. I’m the queen of them).Every time I’ve visit, the hosts finds tables quickly. The place is spacious and can accommodate many. They always set down this wonderfully fragrant corn & barley tea warmer for you. It is soothing and refreshing to clean your palate with in between bites. The staff are always helpful and customer focus, working swiftly but with care. I highly recommend this spot in Schaumburg. It is a gem in our city!
One of my favorite places to get Korean food in Schaumburg. All of the dishes are absolutely delicious, and the staff are so friendly, helpful, and welcoming. Ive never had a bad experience at SGD, and every single dish has always been fresh and so tasty! I keep going back again and again because of its high quality. Im a loyal diner and will continue eating here every time Im in the area!
I LOVE SGD and am so happy they have location in Schaumburg now. I love the one in Glenview and am happy to find the quality and service is still outstanding in this location too! This place gives you a balanced palette. Just through the small side dishes alone (6 side dishes, soup, and tea) you get salty, sweet, spicy, and savory flavors. I personally always order the beef bulgogi bento box and it’s always amazing. And the portion is great for the price and everything that comes with it!
Yay a tofu house close to home! Now I dont have to drive all the way to Chodang Tofu House in Mt.Prospect. Its a beautifully decorated restaurant with very polite staff. They have a selection of tofu soups, bbq, bento (lunch only), and other things I cant remember. My fiance and I both got the tofu soups. You can choose to have the rice on the side, or a white or ramen noodle in the soup. They are very big portions and delicious. Staff was always checking in for more side dishes, tea, and napkins. Cant wait to take my parents here.
What makes this place really stand out is the service. Half the time the waiters are so attentive that you dont have to request anything, but even when you do they bring it right away. Every time Ive been here theyve made sure my water is never empty, my banchan is always filled and that I had enough napkins without me having to say a word.
Delicious food and excellent service. They notice when your water and/or side dishes are low and refill them. Even brought me more napkins when my nose was runny from the spice. Friendly employees but not overbearing (meaning they don’t ask how is everything every two seconds) and it is very clean inside too.
I love Tofu soup, Kimchi and Black Pink.It is the first time I try this restaurant. And there are a surprisingly rude old waitress. She gave me attitude when I walked in. She gave me attitude when I told her I am ready to order. She was mad when I am ordering more than one entree. I really dont know what had I done wrong???왜 그렇게 무례합니까? - by Google translateP.S. Black Pink I still love you❤️
We decided to try this place since our favorite Korean bbq restaurant was busy and we drove to Schaumburg just for the Korean food. I am so glad we did! This is definitely our new favorite! Food and service were fantastic! All the waiters were so understanding with our two young kids. Very large portions and the sides were amazing! I loved the kimchi marinated cucumbers, so much so they gave me a side to go with my leftovers! HIGHLY recommend!!
Really good Korean food at a very fair price. Beef is very tender, veggies are crispy, and rice was good too...although it was a little too sticky for my taste. Also had the spring rolls, which were delicious. Very light and crispy. Our bowl was served with some other Korean fare, including kimchee and a cold sweet corn. Very good place to visit .
Ive been here a few times and always have a good experience. Very friendly staff. The portion size of the food is a good amount. Worth the price and it tastes good. The sides are all different (not just spicy, good variety) and taste fresh. This will continue to be my go to for Korean food.
I ordered pork sundubu with regular spice level. It was good but it was a little bit bland. If you can tolerate spicy food, then I recommend ordering higher than regular spice level. The service was good; they made sure that banchan was filled and constantly checked if I needed anything. Overall, it was a satisfying experience! If you want to experience authentic Korean food, this is the place for you.
Fast and easy place to get your Korean Food in Schaumburg. No BBQ or wide array of dishes, but they are good at what they specialize in, which is the Korean soft tofu soup or Soon Dubu. You can mix/match with different noodles/rice or meats.I prefer the Ramen noodles with pork.Soup is a perfect blend of broth, vege, and meat.
I was so overwhelmed by all the tasty choices and delicious food options that I had to visit this excellent Korean restaurant twice in a row!First of all this is by far some of the best, clean tasting Korean bbq here in Schaumburg and all the waitstaff here is extremely professional and courteous to their guests. The seating here is comfortable and everything here is completely spotless. Once you visit you will understand how completely spotless and how organized the entire staff is here.During my first visit I chose a grilled beef bento 🍱 dinner which comes with kimchi and other fermented vegetable sides. You will also receive a delicious hot broth and complentary hot cup of delicious tea..The bento box was generously portioned and had a decadent variety of sides like dumplings, sesame noodles, rice, fried shrimp and lots of grilled vegetables with the grilled meat. I even have leftovers in my fridge! The second time I dined here I tried the spicy squid bowl again served with all the various sides like cold corn, kimchi (fermented spicy cabbage), fermented vegetables, spicy cucumber 🥒 and rice. When I asked my server for an egg on top he said no problem.Everything here looks so beautiful. The chef here does an absolutely wonderful job of combining authentic Korean taste along with exquisite and colorful presentation. You can definitely taste the love 💘 in the food.Ill definitely look forward to returning here soon!
I celebrated my birthday today in this delicious restaurant. Well it was a terrific evening and the venue was indeed the reason for that strong celebration. The crew cooperated in a graceful way, the food was great and my buddies were extremely cheerful. We shall definitely return for more joyful events. thanks very much.
We came to this place for dinner. my friend recommended this place. Well, it was very successful. The staff members welcomed us with a smile and we had a fantastic feeling. The meal was tasty. We loved this restaurant very much and we will definitely return to this restaurant. Recommended.
Going/lunching there for the first time. I will say it is worth trying. We focus on ordering the tofu bases soup. Food is good. We had a seafood plain tofu soup with Korean noodle and a seafood spicy tofu soup with stone bowl rice. Side dishes are quite good but too sweetened, properly to please the regular American taste buds. Atmosphere is pleasing. For those who do not care for tofu can give this soup a try. The tofu is the soft version in broken pieces more like white color jello in pieces therefore just part of the soup when drunk. By the way, we chose spicy and that is more like a 1 chilli in kick only - mild. For spicy eater, consider the top 2 hotness rankings.
Very good place for tofu soup. Try to avoid Wednesday’s, which the main chef is off, so the soup and rice might be a little different than it supposed to be.Otherwise, service is fast attentive and clean place for diner or lunch.Update 06/10/18This place is going down in quality and consistency. I know the main chef of this chain restaurant so we been telling him to correct small things like the pot rice being watery etc, which has been corrected and told us that the substitute cooker been doing it differently than the manual. Now, today, I tried their new menu bulgogi pot, and they forgot to put the noodle and the mushroom was cut in a chunk piece, one big piece which they pretty sure would have noticed unless don’t care. Also, the seafood tofu soap consisted of 3 shell clams and 2 shrimp. Nothing else left after consuming those items, nothing. So until they correct those things, I won’t be coming back. I am tired of those mistakes that should have been right to start, I feel like no matter how they cook it, I am supposed to eat it however they want to cook it, and that’s not right at all. This is a classic way how a good restaurant goes down when they open multiple stores in a small time frame. I really liked this restaurant but now anymore and not at my expense I will pay to eat a hit or miss food. What a shame.
This restaurant is the one I always prefer. I eat in a lot of restaurants but here I keep coming back again and again. The stuff is very warm and the food they serve is so yummy. I am always happy to have a decent dinner in this restaurant. I highly recommend this place.
Short Ribs are great, soup is good, all the little accessories they give you for the soup like kimchi, pickled radish, spicy cucumber, are absolutely delicious. it really provides exturea nice contrast in temperature and texture. The seafood pancake is delicious also. I have been here about 3 times and the only thing I can say negative which may be a positive to others is that the house soup is overloaded with tofu, and this makes for a very thick soup, I think I prefer more of a brothy soup so next time I would probably omit the tofu or ask for a smaller portion on the side. I dont really prefer the raw egg in my soup either, I know alot of people love it but its not my thing so I just tell them not to bring any raw egg. The staff are so attentive and nice. The shirt ribs are the best I have ever had. Yes this place really bangs my Gong.
Stumbled on So Gong Dong during a business visit. Very pleasant, great food, attentive & friendly service. Really great spicy pork bulgogi, with Korean small plates and rice. Filling lunch with a nice amount to take home for later. Reasonable prices ($$). Will visit again.
Consistently delicious food and attentive service from past visits: dine in and take out for both lunch and dinner, alone and with large group. I love the loads of free appetizers (kimchi, spicy cucumbers, bean sprout, corn salad, fish cakes, etc) they put out after you order while you wait for the food. Lunch is great value: soon tofu and bibimbap about 9.99.
So Gong Dong is a Korean restaurant that you must try. Their menu isnt very extensive, but what they do offer is top quality! They have Korean style meats, but my go to is there soups/stews. You can pick from mild to very spicy and from tofu, kimchi, beef, or seafood to be in your soup. I mainly go with the seafood, but you cannot go wrong. Side dishes are also included (typical of Korean meals) and they always taste fresh! The staff is super friendly and are very quick--Ive never felt ignored or unattended. If you like Korean food or have been curious to try it, this place is great.
We went there with little kids and it was a great experience. Very clean , food is amazing and people are friendly , the service is quick and on time you don’t even have to ask , they like reading your mind and know what you want. But the food , food is so fresh and delicious .
There are so many places within Schaumburg that you could eat at.. We meant to go to a soft opening of a new restaurant but when we saw the lines we Yelped to find something else. SGD had great reviews and the pictures looks even better. With a party of 3 adults and 1 child on a Friday night there wasnt a wait, but the place was packed. I dont think Ive seen bento boxes their size for that price in the Chicago-land area ever. The food was great and service was attentive and friendly. I highly recommend SGD!
One of the best korean place ever, the dish is good and the service is really great. we have total of 8 people and wait almost 45 mins, but once we sit down, the staff who take our order right away tell us due to the wait, they will give a a fried dumpling for free as their apology. thats make me their service and want us to come back. will recommend for all my friend and family.
Absolutely loved my experience. It was everything that a great Korean restaurant needed:1) Swift and polite service (the waiters bowed to the diners whenever they said thank yous and youre welcomes)2) Clean and enjoyable environment3) Food that was expected to be great and WAS great!4) Water refill was ON POINT!5) Music was not too loud (a pet peeve of mine)6) The food portion was JUST RIGHT! :)7) Did I mention the food was amazing! Probably one of the best soondubu soup that Ive ever had.8) The menu was small, which tells me they specialize in making just the few items they have on the menu instead of 100 other mediocre dishes9) The price was not bad for what you pay for, service-wise and food-wise10) The side dishes were........delicioussss!!
So good I had to come back twice in 1 week! Its great Korean BBQ, although the tofu soup is what theyre known for (dont worry you can add meat to the tofu soup if you want!).Ill be back for their lunch special! If you order the hot stone bowl bibimbop, be sure to special request the (free) egg. You have to ask!The bento boxes are a great deal. While the beef bulgogi is super tasty, Ill stick with getting it in the bento box because the plate is too overpriced
Our first visit to a korean restaurant and we chose So Gong Dong because of their reviews & must say it was worth it. The food is great and so is their service. Great food + Pleasant Smiling Staff + Great Ambience = an amazing experience, specially when you are trying the cuisine for the first time!We loved the bibimbap, the # of side dishes that come with a bowl of bibimbap is endless. If you ever try the bibimbap, go for the hot stone plate instead of the regular bowl, its worth the extra $2 cost. We would be back for sure!Would highly recommend So Gong Dong!
Quick place to eat. Fast and consistent. Some of their new menus such as Kimchi Jjige (soup), however, appears to be cooked too quick just as their Tofu soups, which is not supposed to be. And the Kimchi they use for Kimchi Jjige is not the right kind for the soup. Overall its a good place to have spicy Tofu soup.
Straightforward place. Order soup type, spice level, and accompanying assortments like rice, ramen, etc. Flavor of the soups are pretty good even the complimentary sides such as Kimchi and Pickled cucumber are actually better tasting than some of the store brought ones. Def a fan!
Really good authentic korean restaurant. you will enjoy authentic korean food like soonduboo jigae, galbi and etc. I go this place every one a while when I miss Korean food and everytime I visit here I leave the place fully satisfied. a must place when youre in the neighborhood.
I think Chodang and Sogongdong are two of my favorite tofu soup places around here. However compared to Chodang, tofu soup here comes with one main ingridient, which can be seafood or meat and tofu. They dont have any other major ingredients that I find at Chodang. By at the end of the day, it is still delicious tofu soup.
Very impressed- Was decently busy on a Monday afternoon, but seated immediately- Very polite and accommodating waiters (we asked for many refills on banchan and extra green onions for soon dubu)- Very clean and lax atmosphere- Impressively fast food prep, not to mention delicious and pretty affordable (sub-$25 for 2 lunch specials with extra sides of rice)- Only downside, although very nitpicky, was that the kulgaksu (noodles) came served IN the stew, and not in a separate bowl, but this does not warrant a minus 1 star lolIMPORTANT: As of 10/7/19, lunch specials for the tofu stew that includes a choice of a side of rice or noodles are $9.99 and the dinners (same items as above) are $10.99

2022-06-23Yo! Real deal here 🇰🇷Like literally, you’re in Seoul all of a sudden you know. They get everything right. Trust me, I lived in Asia for almost 9 years and these people get it. Not only they get it, this is the real deal South Korean place. They drop a bunch of yummy appetizers worth the exquisite kimchi, some pickle pieces here and there and a nice snacking offer. We had a super quick lunch and they delivered it in record time. Super well mannered staff and efficient, very respectful and kind.It was pretty cool… and I don’t want to wait too long for my next visit with more time so I can try more stuff.

2022-03-06I dont think weve ever experienced such a delicious and efficient KBBQ restaurant! Its not tabletop BBQ but they do a good job on the bulgogi and short ribs. Banchan is in large portions and definitely my favorite ones (fish cakes and cucumber). They refill the banchan at lightning speed! The Kalbi portions were generous and so was the bibimbop. We inhaled the food and right as we finished they dropped off the check without me having to ask for it (I dont consider this rude, I enjoy the efficiency). I typically only go to table top KBBQ places but this SGD DUBU is making me rethink my entire strategy.

2021-11-24A gem of a place that may not be so obvious from outside but the reviews speak the truth. A vegetarian friendly Korean restaurant. Fast service, hot fresh food and amazingly tasty. Going back for sure. I wish they had some beer etc. to help with spicy food.

2021-08-08Overall, the food was great, the distance between each table were also appropriate. The sides here were awesome! Steamed dumpling probably the best I have ever had in Chicago. However, the tofu in jjigae was not as silky as I had In Korea. The noodles in cold noodles were sticking altogether. The soup of the cold noodles were also not something could be rated for 5 stars. Its an okay restaurant to hangout with friends, but not a resultant that you will want to drive for more than 15 mins to dine in.

2022-04-10Ive been here a few times and every time is quite pleasant. The food is always good and the plentiful side dishes is really the main reason I chose to eat inside. The atmosphere is also super great, feels very cozy. You cant go wrong here, though it does get quite busy in the evenings (for obvious reasons).

2022-06-28Will not disappoint!! Very limited menu, but for a reason, they don’t need anything else! Everything they serve is delicious. Food is ready fast. Japchae and bulgogi is absolutely delicious, and sampler platter is a must try! Staff is always friendly and ready for your kimchi refills. Tea is always hot and delicious. Cannot wait to go back!

2021-11-15Very yummy food and appetizers! The tea is good and the cleanliness is phenomenal.
