SEPHORA in other cities:
This location was a favorite place to stop and splurge on my lunch break. However, on 9/16 @2:30-2:45PM I went and I had a wonderful floor employee approach me when I first walked in and she was so helpful, recommended a great eyeliner to me. I moved on to check out some hair products and lowered my mask to smell a cream. I had no one around me so I did not feel it was unsafe. I then had a different floor staff approach me (who was about 20 ft away) demanding that I raise my mask back up. I did as asked and explained I was smelling a product. She just stood there staring at me as I continued to browse. I felt uncomfortable and honestly put the eyeliner back and left the store. As I was walking out, the employee very snotty says “THANK YOU BYE”. If you are unhappy with your job, get a new one. I don’t understand why someone gets off on making people feel shame/uncomfortable. I understand mask protocols but the rude tone and impatient behavior from this employee had me feeling like I’d rather not return back to this store. Put the samples away if customers are not allowed to try them.
Every time I have been here, the employees have been helpful, the store has been clean, and the lines have moved quickly. I especially want to give credit to Katie in the skincare department. She remembers clients and is always a pleasure to talk to. Everyone seems willing to help and it is much appreciated. Great teamwork and atmosphere. Highly recommend going to this store!Update May 2022: The same still applies.
Jan 17, 2022I went into the Block 37 location looking for a YSL lipstick I bought in Toronto. Claudia and Rosa spent so much time dedicated to helping me find the perfect match. While they did not have the YSL item, they tried over 10+ options to make sure I was able to find something similar. When they were able to find me a shade I was very happy with (NARS Gipsy), they realized the store was out of stock. Claudia called all the stores in Chicago to find the product in stock. I really appreciated the knowledge they offered and their willingness to spend time helping me.
Went in and no one greeted me. I walked to the employee who was just staring at me and mot onse did she greet me. I alsed if i could get a shade of foundation. She said she would be back amd never showed up. I then walked over to another employee and she agreed to help me. I opened up credit card and bought 300 worth of products. The cashiers were patient and nice but the floor employee suck!
I dont post customer service reviews often, only if they are very very good or the opposite.. I have been to this store many times. Most times it is okay, I usually just get ignored which I am fine with most of the time. But today I came in to test out a specific perfume so I walked right over to that area. I sprayed one perfume on myself and was about to try a second when a sales associate came from behind me and without excusing themself or any other warning came and grabbed several perfumes (including the one I was about to try out) off the shelf. I told them I was about to test one that they had grabbed but they just walked away and displayed them out in front of another customer. I then walked over and asked to borrow the one I wanted to try and sprayed it on myself. I never received any acknowledgement from the sales associate. I walked right out of that store. Im not sure if I was dressed like someone they didnt expect to spend any money that day or if the person was just socially awkward, but the service left a poor taste in my mouth. I am a big supporter of brick and mortar businesses, but if I am going to spend money on cosmetics in the future, it will most likely not be at this store.
I went to this location just the other day. The people were friendly, my sales advisor was helpful and the cashier was very polite. Sephora is probably the place to go to for all things cosmetic and fragrance. They have plenty of variety and most designers are featured here, the price points at times can be a lot less than other retailers. Since it growth in the early 2000’s, I have gone to Sephora’s maybe three times and the reason being no Cologne Samples are ever given with this retailer. I used to buy fragrances, maybe two or three bottles in one setting and come out spending a lot of money in the process. So every time I would come here and make the attempt to do the same, the sales clerk works say, “We don’t give out Fragrance Samples here!!” This is why I am not a fan of this retailer because of that one glitch. I think if a customers spend the money then why not give them what they ask for because vendors used samples as a selling tool. You want variety and decent service because all three times I have come to Sephora within the lasts 16 years I have always received decent service then this is the place for you. But if you want samples with your purchase than go to the bigger retailers and spend your money there!
I came here to buy something for my moms birthday and the employees were really respectful, caring, and they really listen to there customers. the place was clean, in terms of covid they are taking everything seriously which I love. Easy accses to public transportation and to shopping on state street.I really love this place and I will visit again soon.
Shaundra was very helpful with concealers, very patient, and honest. She took the time to compare different brands especially since I have trouble finding the tones for foundations & concealers by numbers, and when certain shades look alike for my skin tone. She helped me find products that that we’re ranging from $12, $25, and higher. Bought a $14 eyeliner that works well. Looking forward to speaking with her again.
Staff here is very polite and also very knowledgeable with all things makeup and skin care. I was starting to really break out after these long winter months and one off the employees recommended First Aid Beauty as a more affordable skin care brand. I LOVE IT! My skin is radiant and better than ever.
Amazing sephora store. I was in there today and a lovely workers they all helped me with my purchase. I love that they immediately understood the look I like and didnt try to force me into another direction. She completely understood that I want makeup to enhance, not cover up my face. Very knowledgeable and helpful. Thank you so much
Nice store, very clean and well stocked. However, I don’t recommend the hydro facials at this location. The girl doing mine was very sweet, but it was very rushed and I don’t think I even got all of the 4 steps. The 30/45 min facial was more of a 12 min facial. Wasn’t impressed because I like to get a facial every time I shop which is every couple of months.
Decent selection, but this really only services me as a quick Sephora run. I just pick up my normal products and go. I don’t browse too comfortably when it’s crowded here, which seems to happen a lot when I’m around. Oh well. The staff is nice and they’re always so understanding when I need to make a return.
Happy Halloween all of you who made me feel sp special today! So this review is for the very diligent, professional and hard working staff who truly impressed me with their friendliness, genuine helpfulness and dedication and passion for the work they do! Two weeks ago I called every single Sephora requesting a special makeup slot just for HALLOWEEN but sadly every location was solidly booked. I was encouraged to try again just in case there were cancellations and due to our bad weather many customers decided against coming here today so I was able to get a professional, theatrical makeover with the very kind, vivacious and creative Lili today. She definitely knew how to create a beautiful cat look for me and I felt to her it was a LABOR of love because the makeup was do convincing everyone everywhere I went did double takes and complimented me on my cat look. I could have easily blended in with the actors in the play Cats this application was just THAT intriguing and convincing. Being here was the highlight of my day and customers are only required to purchase $50 worth of any products in the store. The location was busy enough today but the entire staff seemed happy to be there and everyone was in a good mood. The only thing that needed a bit of work was the fact that they had run out of their bonus point gifts because this seems to be a smaller store and a high volume of people come through here because its a hub of activity and all the connecting train lines are downstairs. I definitely recommend Lila here for a dramatic look because she really spent a good deal of time with me and she truly wanted me to be completely satisfied. They have wonderful skincare products here and everyone here is about teamwork.
I shouldve known prior to my purchase that things were bound to go wrong. Salesperson was short with me, boarding rude when she helped me choose my foundation shade. I trusted her. Why, Idk. $35.+ & 70mi. Later, Im home and the shade was Definitely not even close to my skin tone. Shout out tothe cashier- who was very pleasant. Ill be making the drive to return the foundation but Ill never shop @ this location again.
Really helpful and fast working staff. It feels like something has changed at this location in the last couple years and they keep getting better and better. They have pulled items from the back because they aren’t on display. Today Rosa helped me find the perfect lipliner in about 30 seconds. They always make sure you know what the current rewards are and have recently become really consistent about giving out deluxe samples and promos at the register if you want them. I just wish they had a Natasha Denona gondola and I miss having Commodity fragrances in the perfume section, but I understand that they don’t have as much space as other Sephora’s.
I find the sales staff in the fragrance section to be very rude there. One woman will stand right in front of the Jo Malone counter after she sees someone trying to sample a fragrance, as if she doesnt want anyone testing the products. Also, if you ask for a sample of any fragrance (which is totally logical because fragrances smell differently on paper and adjust based on every persons unique body pheromones), they get annoyed and act like you are a mooch (even when you have bought fragrances there before and are a frequent Sephora shopper!)
Staff was friendly and knew their products. Even made an additional recommendation based on my likes. Will I go back? Probably not. I will probably just stick with my moisturizer from the scentuary on 71st in South Shore. But if I decide to go with foundation I might.
HONESTLY all employees are really nice.. Accept one that is very rude that person judges people & treat othet custerms different. You can always tell about a person body langue & how they act with customers. Other than that its a great i love all the people. Its not just the person that just having a bad day that they rude its every time they it seems people that are in low class or really struggling they only have problems from this person. No i have not complained about not yet. The person treats people different. ITS WRONG. I have wanted to say something to her but she wouldnt like what i say. I would put her in her place in a respectful manner
Terrible service! For Sephora to be on the expensive end, they need to hire people that provide good customer service! I walked in for all of 30 seconds and this one woman just looked at me. She didnt asked if I needed assistance so I walked to a different area to match my face with foundation. This one woman walked up to the sitting area and didnt acknowledge me. I decided to speak up and asked was anyone available to assist with matching foundation. She asked which kind, I said I didnt know. I said Your makeup looks nice, what do you wear?. She caught an entire attitude saying two different brands. I then asked her were they full coverage? Once again she caught an attitude and said uh no. But let me find someone to help you... Clearly she wasnt doing anything so why couldnt she help since I liked her makeup?!. She told me it would be a 15 minute wait and she walked away. I left and went to Macys. Ill take my money somewhere else!!
Above and beyond customer service here. I came to town without a needed facial moisturizer with sunscreen protection. With nothing any good at Walgreens, I stopped in here hoping to find an inexpensive travel size or sample to get me by for a couple of days. After explaining the situation, the store clerk offered to make me a FREE sample of either of a couple of suggested products. This was very helpful as I avoided spending $45. Because I really liked the product (Supergoop), I will be buying it later though. Thanks!
Worst customer service I have ever received at a Sephora! Every employee in there is condescending and very unhelpful. They all were standing around either talking to each other or ignoring customers. When I asked one employee of the had a certain product he looked down at me and very rudely said that the product “did not exist anymore” and he turned around and walked away. Absolutely no knee was helping any customers, and it was the worst environment I have ever been in while shopping. I felt so patronized and ignored. I will not be going back anytime soon!
Ask Dee any question from skincare to any type of makeup suggestions and he has you covered even if he seems busy. Katie in skincare is amazingly helpful and such a sweetheart. Today I received a custom make over from a young lady by the name of Claudia & I’ve been getting compliments ALL. NIGHT. She answered all questions and let me pick her brain on products. She was very raw and honest in her opinions on products & has an amazing personality. Despite the heavy traffic these 3 people are certainly “go to” for any needs. Love this location.
Staff at this location is unbelievably rude. Mostly from one particular member that ruined my experience and literally made me leave the store. I was plant to purchase many things but would rather take my business elsewhere like Ulta where the staff is attentive and treats you like a human with respect.
After earning the VIB card last time I went in I got to go get my makeup done so I chose Valentines Day for my girls night out with friends. I scheduled an appointment for 6pm. I didnt request anyone but I totally lucked out and got Alexis again who helped me with my brows last time. We talked about what I was wearing for the night and the colors I wanted to pop. I told her how I wanted a smokey eye but with pop of the green from my shirt. Also I wanted my cheeks to be contoured. Im definitely not great at contouring. She brought over a great product that I hadnt heard of that had two colors a contouring and a highlighter. Not only did she choose all the right kinds of makeup and make me look beautiful but she was so fun. We chatted the entire time which was like 90 minutes. She was very complimentative and just fun!
Always my favorite, although theyre is some underlying racism because theyll follow people of color around like white on rice. It gets to a point of being uncomfortable... and Im Rouge. After a while they recognize your face, but you feel it. Still one of my favorite places.
I love me Sephora! They really have stepped it up in my opinion over the last year.Lots of staff, lots of brands, lots of beauty products to help me look glam~!They are always offering testing, samples, opinions and compliments. Its every womans dream. They have next to everything you would possibly need. ENJOY!
2 stars. 1 bc I love sephora, 2. Bc I order online. Everyone here is very welcoming when u first walk in the store, butttttt be prepared to be ignored. They need to hire security bc apparently they have to greet people when they come in and everyone is busy greeting to actually help with products in store u have questions about. Everytime I asked about a product they basically pointed to it but didnt have answers to my questions about product. To have that many employees in store for being downtown chicago it was disappointing that I couldnt find help I needed.
This store offers so many different brands that you you cant not find something you like. the service is also very nice and the people offer samples and the ability to try out numerous things. the products are all of very good value and are priced high but they are worth it. the store itself is very beautiful and has all kinds of different displays that show off all of the different products.
I LOVEEEEEE this Sephora! Everyone here are sooo nice and informative. You can tell that they GENUINELY care! I have been a Loyal Customer at this location for over a year now. And when I tell you I wont buy from ANYWHERE else but here, I MEAN it. I have had very uncomfortable experiences from a LOT of stores in Downtown Chicago. And Being that I am a Flight Attendant, I have to constantly find what will help me look presentable. I have really bad skin problems, and being that I am fairly new to makeup...I find myself walking around the store longer than most. Some of the time I am asking questions, but most of the time I am reading product reviews on the internet or watching youtube reviews for potential products. And I have noticed that I would get watched like a hawk with occasional eyerolls (yeah, I know). But NOT HERE! I love this store and I recommend this establishment to EVERYONE I speak to! I received my Beauty Insiders card at this location and quickly became a VIB! LOL....I am almost at the ROUGE level and I wouldnt dream of accomplishing that with ANY OTHER Sephora location other than #StateStreet ;-)
Great location and awesome staff. This is the first time I have been to this location and it is my favorite downtown due to how helpful the staff was and everyone seemed genuinely happy to work here. I did have a custom make over that I pre-arranged through the Sephora website. Great experience!
Every employee must be day dreaming or something. They don’t ask anyone if they need help they don’t greet they just stare. The atsmosphere is so boring its quiet and plain. Hated it never going back. Only go here if you know what you are looking for other than that don’t recommend
Poor costumer service ! The cashier was upset because I changed my mind about a product !!! And I didn’t want to purchase it but she force me to purchase it because she said that will be the only way to take out from the bill!!!! Very bad customer service she could ask the manager to void the product ! But she was lazy to do it ! Never will came to this location ! and Im still waiting for my money back from that return .
Not very good customer service and the store is always in disarray. Also as I was walking out of the store last time I visited I almost got pushed out of the way by 2 very rude employees who apparently were coming late from lunch and in a hurry. I only come in when I desperately need something right away otherwise I rather shop the Sephora site if Ulta does not carry the brand.
I love Sephora but I go to a different one this is my first time coming here didnt like it love how they greet me and say have a nice day after but when it comes to what I came for a employee Gave me attitude after asking if they can check if they have more of a current product and just saying no and leaving without even checking.
I love make up and shopping at Sephora is super fun! They do not carry all brands at every location and this Sephora did not carry my blush brand, Illuminasqua. The staff called over to the Water Tower location and reserved a blush for me. They are also accommodating on returns.
Sephora is the best place to buy high end brands with a range of products from makeup, skincare, perfume, nail polish, and makeup tools. The store is very clean and neat and it is easy to find everything in the store with all the handy store employees that quick to help you.

2022-03-28Im only sharing from an estheticians perspective. I didnt purchase anything today but was looking at what brands have out these days. The employees were attentive and I was offered help 3 separate times during my short 20 min visit. Only reason I wouldnt be back to this location is $$.

2022-08-05I had flown to Chicago and my luggage had been lost, so desperately needed to come in to get a whole set of hair products! Nathaniel was quick to give me the service I needed, explained that he’s been working professionally with hair products and spent a good amount of time walking me through the store, demonstrating how some of the products work and helped me pick the right ones for my hair. It has now been two weeks since I was in the store and my hair is looking more lush than ever!! The cashier was also very friendly and gave me samples! Very happy customer, thank you both!

2022-06-17Stopped in with my Aunt, was attended by Nathaniel, only wanted to ask him a question, needless to say we both was happy with his attention to detail and he knew exactly what we were looking for. Thank you, will definitely be returning .

2022-06-05Wide selection, very nice helpful staff, reasonable prices, very clean, large selection of cruelty free/vegan/healthy/environmental friendly stuff. Sales associates were not invasive like some other branches.

2022-02-19One employee was so rude and blatantly so that there was a second of silence. Never have I experienced such an unpleasantness that I had to go search for another person for assistance in Sephora and in downtown of all places. And they have an unkempt unprofessional looking staff overall. With little knowledge of products

2022-04-27The store should offer more brands of fragrances: Cacharel, Boss, Shiseido, Jean Paul Gaultier, Guerlain, Kenzo, Trussardi, Narciso Rodriguez, Elie Saab, Montblanc, Loewe, Tous, Salvatore Ferragamo. The staff is lovely and went above and beyond to help me with my purchase. However, the selection of fragrances is rather limited, which is sad.I would have purchased more if there were more perfume testers available. I couldnt find testers of perfumes that were offered online. Its difficult to purchase fragrance (at the store or online) if I cannot test it at the store. I feel like the selection pre-pandemic was better. A few years ago, there were more brands and more options available (Histoires de Parfums, Commodity etc.).

2022-01-29Employees were incredibly rude staring at me as if I was going to steal something…when I asked if the employees could grab the perfume I wanted 3 of them blatantly ignored me. Luckily another girl saw they ignored me and came over to help. Was not greeted or said goodbye to as I left. Not sure why the employees are acting snotty & like they are better than you..

2017-12-03Very nice and helpful cast. Store is kept clean. Dont be afraid to ask for assistance. Find anything you need here. Get great recommendations. And if they are out of stock on anything, they will go above and beyond to find it for you online or another store. 5 stars!
