Ronald Reagan Home in other cities:
We visited the home in the summer of 2021 and would say its a must stop for anyone interested in American presidential history and the early years of Ronald Regan. Mike is a great tour guide by providing details of the Regan family in the 1920s and the visit by Regan in 1984. We also enjoyed our visit to the Rock River Park in Dixon.
Broken glass all over the parking area aside,, Interesting life stories about the family, however, our tour guide could use some self control in curbing hateful and vulgar speech about Native Americans. Also, perhaps keep political commentary to himself. These unwanted outbursts ruined the visit for us. Could not wait to leave..Ronald mother would have been aghastRonalds
Brilliant presentation of the boyhood development and further growth into outstanding world leader, Ronald Reagan. The gentlemen presenting the story and tour were highly professional and knowledgeable! Vicariously living the live of this American hero at his early home is an amazing experience. All details along with the spirit of Reagan’s home are carefully preserved.
The website says hours are until 4:00 pm. We were there before 3:00 and were told the tour was full and the door was locked in my face and a closed sign was put up. I had come fromTexas via Muscatine. I think the web site should say that the last tour was at 3:00 if it is. At the Hoover Museum you can sign up for a time so you will not be turned away. I think that would be a better plan. We went to Reagan’s birth place first and the docent there was wonderful. However we left Dixon with a very bad impression. I told the person at Dixon that I had come fromTexas and he said we are more than full. Very disappointing experience. We will not recommend this site unless things change. Is there a gift shop? I don’t know because we weren’t allowed in the door🙁😩
The Reagan home is super cool. I hung out around there when I was a kid and used to go all the time. It’s a really neat glimpse into the past and a great learning experience for children and adults. Pat, the director, is an awesome guy and always keeps it tip top. It’s definitely worth checking out.
Very nice site. The staff were knowledgable and courteous. The tour is just the right length in time. The house was interesting and the guide related some personal stores about President Reagans childhood. The gift shop is decent, if they dont have it in stock, they can order. All in all a nice historic site to see if youre in the area. If you want to eat, try Galena Steakhouse!
The kids went on a field trip here with their homeschool group and it was a wonderful experience. It was a perfect day for the trip which made it even better. Very helpful, informative staff, and we spend a decent amount at the store. I recommend this place to everyone, especially school/homeschool groups. Parents will enjoy it too, so if not in a small group, it may be better to go as a family. Any individual would enjoy this visit as well of course, I mainly mention the groups because of the educational nature of this place. But this is a must for everyone in the area in my opinion, regardless of party affiliation. Its not a political place at all, so dont worry about that, just history.
We stopped today on a whim ,we had stopped at another place and it was closed so we headed to Dixon. When we arrived we caught the last tour of the day! They were very patient with us as the rest of our party visited the facilities and joined us! We went through the tour learned several things we had not known about Reagan! The gift shop was closed when the tour was over and Jerry our guide opened it up so we could purchase s few items and also started the movie that we had missed! Very friendly and an enjoyable stop! Thank you Jerry for accommodating all of us today! We will highly recommend others to stop!
All together, a well done site!Video of his visit to Dixon (while President of USA) is playing in the visitor center, and photos and video of being in the house.Knowledgeable staff (good secret service stories from Reagan visit), clean, spacious bathrooms behind visitor center, a small parking lot behind the boyhood home. Well kept grounds. Good gift store. Keep your admission ticket as a souvenir!Good story of him reading a book of having an alcoholic father that helped him realize his own Fathers alcoholism did not have to hold him back from achieving his dreams.
The $8 tour consists of a 20 min video and a 12 min tour of the Reagans modest home. Velour roped off sections everywhere limiting your options to fully admire and interact with objects. Tour discounts offered to military and government personnel, bringing cost down to $5 - Woohoo!
The Ronald Reagan Boyhood home is an amazing place to visit. The visitors center is jammed packed with history for both the young and old at heart. The grounds and house are in immaculate shape and the staff was pleasant and helpful throughout the visit. I highly recommend detouring off I88 and stopping in Dixon to learn more about one of our most popular Presidents.
Pros: This is a very neat place I stumbled upon as a destination during a Route 2 motorcycle ride. Its a simple home which offers a decent prospective of one of President Reagans homes. Provides a glimpse of what it may have been like during his childhood.Cons: The location is not well staffed (understandably) so one must be patient if youre looking to have a guides input. Also, many of the items on site are replicas and not the originals.Overall: The home is pretty well maintained and you can spend an hour or two looking the place over. Its worth a stopover, but maybe not a main destination.
I drove all the way from New York to see Ronald Reagans house and I was turned down by the lady in the visitor center. She told me I could pay $8 and just watch a video but I could not tour the house. Meanwhile I took a stroll over next to the house and it was full of people touring inside the house. I dont understand. Go figure? I felt I was shunned and treated poorly and Im going to tell everybody about this situation. If anybody ever asks me about Ronald Reagans boyhood home in Dixon Illinois I will tell them how rude and terrible I was treated by the woman working inside the visitor center this day. I shall never return!
A must for Reagan fans who follow up on his childhood stories and life. I was surprised that he only spent a few years in Dixon, but it was enough for him to call it his hometown. There is a tour guide house to the right for souvenirs and purchasing tour tickets. The hours are 10 to 4pm so plan accordingly.
This is one of those places with a touching history. You are standing on the ground where President Reagan was walking for a years. You can just imagine and feel how it is when a boy from small town became a president of United States. A place a must stop by when in area.

2022-05-30Nice history lesson. Have to say though that our tour guide gave too much information and the guided tour took too long. They didnt keep the gift shop open after the tour - ours was the last of the day. We saw something we would have gotten. I thought they would talk more about the Young American foundation and the work they did in the house. Anything that reminds people of Ronald Reagan is a valued contribution to our world.

2020-07-15This was cool to see. It was immaculate and the lawn well manicured. I’m not one for history but as I age, I appreciate it more. We can all learn something from everything...what I never want to do or be like, or a fun fact I didn’t know before. I am a Hypnotist so I understand that leaning is something our brain needs to constantly be doing.

2019-07-07We visited the home on July the 4th. The Staff were amazing. They were so knowledgeable and were able toIntersperse the tour with their vast knowledge of President Regan’s life and times in Dixon. The home is small And compact, but you really get a sense of living in small town America in Tegan’s time.

2019-06-03Well worth the trip to this sleepy small town. Loved every minute of our visit. Very informative docent and they even were very patient with our two-year old Mary. Wish more historic locations were this well organized and taken care of. Happy to see President Reagan visited and helped with the house. Keep up the great work!
