Pleasant experience, not to crowded. JC Penney and Macys are running at full strength. There are several small shops functioning as well. Food court is operating and the mall temperature is cool. Security guards were present but not imposing. Simple mall not really elaborate but great deals if you look around. Diverse customer base as well.
Its an okay mall if youre bored and just want to walk around with friends. They have some nice stores to buy clothes like New York and Company (business casual attire) or Too Cute (party, cute outfits). There are also a couple of shoe stores that sell snapbacks and sports related apparel. Also there is a small arcade and candy/cereal store that was recently opened so that makes the place a lot more appealing for younger people! Other than that unfortunately the mall is pretty dead. Too many stores get closed down constantly. And the food court is sub par. Alot of the restaurants there were shut down as well. Another thing to watch out for is fights! Many kids come here to fight and I rarely see security there. I go at least once a month but have stopped due to fights, lack of things to do. Oh and if youre looking to lease a cart or kiosk to start your business up, they usually offer many spots scattered around the mall. Still you might want to consider opening a business there with the influx of people that come mainly to hang out rather than spend (from my personal observations).
Glad I moved out of Illinois state including calumet city was going downhill in 2004 due to crime I grew up in calumet city until everyone comes in and want to ruin everything that used to be calumet city I honestly think the whole area is done just like harvery even though I never lived in harvery now its its like harvery you dont dare walk in the middle of the night in calumet city
This mall is desired and needed in this community. Inasmuch, the mall could use some additional upscale stores that are equipped with desirables rather than junk. Also, a constant, good cleaning of the entrance door glass and the grounds would be an added attraction. Old chewing gum spots upon the entrance ways are so unattractive. Why not invest in our neighborhood just as Homewood, Orland, Tinley and or Merrillville?
So much has changed here in 11 years. Most of the anchor stores are gone as are a good chunk of the in-line tenants and the food court. I would not recommend visiting the small unless you absolutely have to or want to shop at Macy’s, which seems like a pretty nice store on its own.
This use to be the best place to shop bk in the day but the raising of renting spaces out n other thgs its dead only 2 gd store left n when went to Macys was not happy looking for nice lined gloves for my bf n Acadian sweater for meet getting anythg there them all is dead put it to sleep 💤💤😴😴
My fiance wanted a few pair of gym shoes and not one store had her size shoe. The employees were lounging around and just not into doing their job. It was a little annoying. This mall has definitely changed from when I was a young girl. I rarely come here and I dont think Ill be coming back.
J.C Pennys Is At The Top Of Its Game. I Loved The Addition Of The Young Men Running The Register Adjacent To The Men/Ladies Section; They Worked Expeditiously And Professionally Which I Appreciated. From Times Past, Ladies Appeared To Have Many Mood Swings And Attitude, Which Hurts The Flow Of Business.
Ive never been until the pandemic hit it wasnt crowded but the stores are over taxing and there wasnt a sit down food court open a lot of stores were open and there wasnt a lot of people shopping may have to go back to soon and see whats changed probably better off going to single outlet store to shop or online because the mall prices are high.
The management here dont care about the property the parking lot is not cleaned.. trash all over.. over grown grass just not appealing. They main entrance dont even welcome you..at 11am when it opens the glass doors are dirty. Not a covid clean place. Inside its only a few stores.

Throughout the years, River Oaks has changed from a blooming outside mall to a ghost town. Thats the sad reality of malls these days. Even malls like Orland Park are at a steady decline.I came here with family this week, we didn’t stay long because there’s not too much stores since covid. A year ago, this mall was opening new stores and making its way to a come back. Covid really destroyed brick and mortar stores. We still shopped around and brought a few things at JCPenney.
The mall had some cool stores and the staff working there was great. The ONLY issue I have is with the washroom. Most of the toilets had bags over them and same for the sinks. There were also no mirrors in the washroom. Other than that, I had a great time and will definitely be coming back!
Its a ghost town, its very empty. People are constantly having fights here and not a lot of stores are open. it is not really that great. Nobody really comes and whenever I go there my ears ring. I live around here, but I go all the way to orland park because its so sad going here.
Was able to find everything but my son tims but got good new era hats levis and over 300 on cologne but one goin back cuz it smells awful he got me i just want to trade it in for the sean john and Ill have no issue or complaint Ive spent over 500 on smell good so it should be no problem to just switch out
This mall was ok but the food court was more than half empty so not many food options. I tried to use a restroom and by the time I got all the way to the end of the hallway it was out of order and locked. Non the less I didnt get to go because I didnt know where the next nearest restroom was. I did buy a couple pairs of shoes from a couple different stores though. There were some good sales.
Although lots of stores come and go I am never disappointed at what I find thats new and useful. There are a lot of pop up vendors that have great food items like this family owned gourmet popcorn shop that just moved in at the end of the food court. Check them out if you find yourself at River Oaks, the cherry popcorn is phenomenal. Overall Ive spent a lot of time at this mall since I was a kid and it still serves it purpose.
They should just go ahead and shut this mall down. No they shouldnt but it does need a major overhaul. The community needs it. Not a lot of stores you would want to go to and it seems it gets worse every year. Even the jcp and macys left something to be desired. Needs an overhaul. There is no reason people that live around there should always have to go to orland park now a days
The food court is a joke, the whole mall looks like its ran by these sweet tea pwople. A whole section of the mall is closed off and doesnt look like its ever going to reopen. No name brand store only ghetto shoe places. The mall it self was dirty with garbage on the ground. Just a whole mess, nothing like how it was when I was growing up.
I appreciate the jobs that this mall creates and hope that it can be rejuvenated into a place that can meet the needs of a broader range of consumers. Currently there is very little diversity when it comes to the types of stores, and products offered inside of the mall. If you need clothes, shoes, or jewelery this is the place for you. If youre looking for more than that this mall probably wont meet your needs.
Mall looks pretty terrible outside, but there are some great stores inside such as Gnc, T mobile, Custom Tees, Ooh Wee Tea, Lady Foot locker, NY & Co and Finish line. Wish there was more variety in the food court and a better variety of stores. The jewelry shops and shoe stores are much to vast.
SUPER JJ FISH Chicken& rib in river oaks mall ❌food was horrible. no seasoning, all the food had to much batter, fries were under cooked and it took them an an hour. And they sold out of water. The pops were very small for 250. Ribs had more sauce then ribs I do not recommend them at all.
This mall needs to close down, I feel bad for the business owners there, but people in that neighborhood do not appreciate shopping malls. This mall is a hang out spot for dropout teens and adults who have no jobs. This mall is infested with ignorant people that makes shopping there unpleasant. The stores are empty and the staff plays more than work. Macys need to relocate.
River Oaks Mall isn’t really the terrible place people make it out to be. Yes, it can be dirty; yes, it can have trouble-makers; yes, it has multiple vacant units, but it also has heart. If we weren’t so consumed with online shopping, these malls wouldn’t be failing as rapidly as they are. Call me old-fashioned, but I like going to malls, especially when they’re indoors! I like the variety of the stores and the ability to wander around looking for gift ideas. The parking lot is a complete disaster with the snow at the moment, just a heads up..I recently transferred to a store in this mall a couple months ago, and I’ve found that this mall isn’t as bad as people make it out to be. If people were just nicer to each other, if customers treated employees like human beings and stopped being so confrontational and disrespectful, it would be a much better place to visit, shop, and work!
Its been more than 5 years since I last walked thru River Oaks Mall. Its a shame that most of the businesses (large) have folded, moved away or have gone internet but thankful for the small new entrepreneurs that have sprung up and the large (Penny, Macy) that have stayed. Its good to have gotten out of the house or hotel to look and touched items for sale.Lets make every day SMALL BUSINESS DAY and if the big business are there..... visit them too.
This mall is beginning to remind me of the Brickyard Mall in Chicago, back in the day, right before it was closed and torn down. The food court looks like a grave yard. There are a few good stores left. All we go for is the $10 eye brow shop for my wife and girls, and purchase gym shoes.
Has a variety of shops. Not as popular as back in the day. Maybe it could attract more people again if it had an H&M, Forever 21, or a novelty shop like Spencers. This mall does have a great selection of small miscellaneous shops that arent too common such as jewelry, watch repair, and phones however.
Four stars because the mall still has some really good stores as Macys, Express, Jimmy Jazz, JCPenney with Sephora, Rue 21, Rainbow and Victoria Secret. They dont have a lot of the original stores when they first open, but still a good variety of shoes stores, jewerly places, small boutique, and hair/nails salon. They have a fun center with games and such. So I think thats cool for the kids. If youre into music, F.Y.E. is still there. The food court is getting better, before it was dead, but my last visit a lot more food options. I really like that. This mall definitely isnt like others malls, but it isnt another dead mall.I shop here once in awhile, its closer than any mall thats still available.
I’m only giving it a 1 cause the super JJ’s is the nastiest place ever. It doesn’t take like no other JJ’s and on top of it all they take over 35mins to make 4 wings. I believe they givin JJ’s a bad reputation....Never again will I come to this location to eat or recommend it!!!.The other restaurants in the mall are decent and they fast; they food taste wayyyyy better.
For this to be one of the Simon Malls, they ought to be ashamed, in comparison to Orland Mall which is also Simon, so much cleaner, better stores there, come on guys, could do better, although income is lower and more minorities, ppl are still spending the same green money in your malls. Please do some updates and better stores.
I visited Victoria Secret. The customer service I received was terrible and unprofessional . Every one who was on staff was busy doing nothing. I tried to get help to answer a question about a particular fragrance and the only one who would help was a cashier, she went out of here way to give me great customer service. Staff at this location can learn a lot from the new hire.
This is a Simon mall. It is an indoor mall. They have two department stores. Macys & JC Penney. The food court is not as great as it was a few years ago. There is an ATM by the food court. In addition to that, there is a childrens play area next to the food court. It is cleaned. There is plenty of parking.
Everyone giving this mall more than one star is obviously not seeing straight. This mall is the epitome of trash. There are no good stores, the staff in most of the stores have no customer service skills. The mall gets ran by juvenile delinquents on the weekends. There have been robbing and shootings at this mall. The management team is never around, this mall is unsafe and filled with trash. River oaks used to be a beautiful mall years ago. When you lose a McDonald’s in your mall that means your doors need to close. River Oaks needs to be closed!
This is my favorite mall. Well its a tie between this one and Ford City. If you come here you will experience ghetto-ism at times but if you can deal with that then you may like the place. I like all the stores and the surrounding areas include Fye (best store ever😊). Most crowded times are weekends and late afternoons. People can be a lil pushy at those times but other than that its not really bad. Everything you need is in the area.
There isnt really anything of anything there. Most of the stores sell cheap quality off clothing at high prices. Makes no Damn sense. Sears closed down. The only good places are express, Victorias secret, rue 21, bath and body works, and wet seal. Its like a little swap meet up in there but with no diversity.
The cornerstone Department stores in this location are great places to shop at. There are some other larger chain retailers inside too, however, in the past 10-15 years, the quality of shops have really gone down. A few bigger name chains left, and more low-value single-owner shops that have popped. All in all, if I know I can find what I need there, Ill go. But, wont spend time just passing through without purpose.
Malls are a relic of the past where ppl would enjoy browsing and perusing stores for items to purchase. Now everything is online and folks forgot how to enjoy a visit to the mall. River Oaks mall is fun. Quiet, kids can run around, there plenty stores and home one of Chicagolands few FYE stores. Funko pop central. Might find some rare ones. Last time I visited there was a sale.
Its a garbage mall that is a shell of its former self. 10-15 Years ago this mall was very diverse and at least had a movie theater. Now its nothing more but an indoor swap meet. Most of them are urban clothing stores which for the life of me cant understand why there are so many. There is NO diversity or variety in this place. There is an FYE store that looks like a ghost town especially in the back of the store. Sears have abandoned this terrible mall and now its just a big open space. Food court is probably the only redeeming place in this mall but then again with so many food places around here why bother going in there.I down right hate this place. SIMON malls should be ashamed of themselves and it shows they dont care. If you want a better mall experience just go to Orland Park Mall where standard actually exist. There it shows SIMON cares about that location over this.
River oaks center, this would be a great place for Amazon to take over the entire mall and build a factory right there....Sad... I used to go to that mall a lot back in the 90s, but now with Sears and Macys have moved out, and a lot of stores have pulled/ abandoned, and also huge water marks on the ceiling, I just cant see this mall lasting another 10 more years. The mall back in the 90s used to thrive with activity, and lots of book stores, and people eating at the food shops and McDonalds in the corner... The mall is just an empty shell now.
I have no stars for this mall, Retailers be aware mall management is playing the game with tenant they are threatening tenants behave rudely as if they are paying you a salary. and security hit my child and when I complain security director told me he will collect witness that my child was running here and there. some security is not healthy enough. They are authorized to hit any ones child by running them over. If you love your children then dont let them run here and there in mall security can run over the child. If they run here and there. They will get you witness for this incidence that your child must not run around.
The owners of River Oaks needs to be ashamed of their self. It is always dirty in there and the bathrooms are filthy. Security is never around when you need them I dont feel safe shopping there. Compare to Orland Yorktown Schaumburg Merrillville. totally different!! And I feel only because we are Urban. Because in a Caucasian they have security in the mall. And it is clean and you dont have all them thugs hanging around!!!
Everything gone its a ghost mall now I remeber when I use to go get my pictures by photo magic and I use to get my shirts made use to go see movies in the theater use to go in to the dollar store and use to walk around meeting celebrities like Trey songs and lil cory etc.
Its Not Safe To Park Your Car In There Parking Lot My Car Got Stolen... Out Of There Lot.... I Went To Talk To Tha Mall Cops & They Tell Me That My Car Was Repo.... & I Told Them My Car Was Never Repo Because My Car Is Paid For.... I Then Asked Did They provide you With Info About My Car They Told Me No.... So I Went To Tha Police Station To Make A Report & Asked Them Was My Car Repo Even Tho I Knew It Wasnt They Told Me No.... So Theres A Tow Truck That Ride Thru There Parking Lot stealing Cars & Trucks... & Telling Tha Mall Cops That Its A Repo... Without Giving Any Info & They Just Let It Go Without Getting Any Info On Tha Tow company Or Driver.... So Be On Tha Look Out 4 Your Car If You Park In There Lot.... 2022-06-10I did curbside at jcp. Parking lot is a little weird and ppl park however they want. Curbside spot was taken by a customer who was shopping inside. The lady who brought my curbside order was friendly and professional

2022-02-08Im old enough to remember when it opened. It was wonderful and the rocking chair theater on the other side of Torrence was the best. Like Calumet City itself, the mall is in a death spiral. Pretty depressing. How long before it goes the way of Lincoln Mall?

2022-04-08They really need to spruce it up and do a real good deap cleaning around the property. Its horrible. Gum all over the side walk garbage everywhere. Its in a really good spot. SOMEBODY NEEDS TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THIS PLACE, and push to get more businesses. So many malls are dying, dont let this one get away!!!!

2022-04-11I went to JCPENNEY to pick-up an order. I wanted to use Curbside pick-up. They claimed they had one. Yet no one ever answered the app when I got there and parked in the spot for pick-up. I had to go inside and wait in Iine to get my order. When I got to the counter the clerk just laughed and said I guess its not working again. When I was leaving the store I noticed a few other people complaining about the Curbside pick-up service at that store.

2022-03-22The store selections have fallen off over the years. I like Macys and the kids clothing store because they have school uniforms, but its very basic, and cheap after that.

2022-04-06The river oaks mall is too dry as of late. Macys, Victoria secret, bath and body works dont have enough product, or customer service attrndant to provide a good shopping experience.
