Prairie Gardens in other cities:
What a great place to shop! Beautiful boutique, seasonal decor and accessories, and fantastic prices on plants. If I lived nearby, thats the only garden center Id choose. Even with an 8 hour trip back home, we still shopped there on 2 different days and had to completely rethink how to load the car after buying so much. Well definitely be back when were back visiting in a few months.
Wow, Ive never seen such a huge garden center! It was so clean; the plant varieties and selection was fantastic. Very spacious. In addition to plants, they have everything plant-related (pots, fertilizers, decor, etc), plus cards, jewelry, clothing, furniture, and so much more. We were impressed with the high quality of everything we saw.
We had an art canvas stretched here and it was a touching experience. The two people who work the art department are just totally competent, sincerely hardworking, decent people. One of them had a family crisis during our project and the other person stepped up and worked for both of them, and finished a week early, just to take the pressure off their colleague. The work in this shop is superb. I cant say enough good about the art department. Its so much fun shopping at Prairie Farms, too. They always have new and different seasonal items. My only negative comment is that the garden center employees have a separate and different attitude. They consistently cant be bothered to help you, and when they do, the garden employees have quite a haughty attitude and wont share their knowledge without making you wait or putting you down for not knowing where things are, or even for just asking a question. Dont even talk to the garden people. Just walk through and maybe buy stuff, but if you try to talk they will make you want to leave.OH, I forgot... this place has the best large ceramic planters I have seen in all of North America!!! The selection is stunning and they cost ridiculously reasonable prices for the extreme beauty. Alas, they live in the infamous garden department...
Everyone working there was so kind and patient! Theres a lady there who takes care of the plants in the house plant room. She answered questions I had about my peace lily and probably saved its life, haha. She also helped me pick out the right plants for a specific area of my home that I had an idea for and helped me figure out how I should display the plants there to make sure they stayed healthy. She was so helpful and I owe a lot to her! Other people working there also helped me figure out some more style-based problems with my little project. I really appreciate the nice, patient people working here and the excellent selection of plants, pots, and home decor!
I discovered Prairie Gardens last year and I fell in love! They have a fantastic selection on literally anything you can think of. Suzie (sp??) was very helpful and helped me pick out more plants to go with a perennial I had selected! She has a wealth of knowledge and was eager to help! I can’t recommend this place enough to anyone wanting to get their hands in the garden!
So much selection and good prices for plants that I end up having to decide what to get! Amazing cost and pricing for the many different sizes of the same and different species of plants. From dwarf snake plants to massive ponytail palms and even Brazil Pothos plants, I could spend all day in that section! Wonderful selection of planters although a little pricey. The clearance section had everything that no one would buy so I can tell why it’s 70% off but other than that it was pretty good. I don’t know if I didn’t look in every room, but I didn’t see any orchids and they were out of orchid bark. Everything is either too expensive or a good deal so I’d recommend going in to see what you can find because if you need to make your house look nice, or you just love plants and gardening, this is a nice place to shop. I saw plants that I don’t even see at Home Depot or Lowe’s even basic cone flowers were displayed with many different color options! Landscaping, house plants, designing a home space, or just to shop around, I’d pick this store first over any other big chain.
Be sure to check your plants for pests and disease. Didnt end up getting any plants even though they had a decent selection that I havent seen before. Also alot of their plants are dying because theyre over watered. Make sure to repot soon after getting it or dont water for a while. Their soil holds alot of moisture. Hope this helps someone.
That place is freaking amazing. I could stay for hours! It has such a variety of plants, bushes, fake flowers, basically anything you could possibly need if your a crafty person. I walk they the door, take a big sigh at the sight of it all, and continue onward while feeling the stresses of the day escape. Love this place! Highly recommend.
This is one of my all time favorite stores. I’ve been coming here since I was a child. Back then I loved it because they were THE craft store to buy the things you need to make whatever you want. The coolest doll house kits that I just had to have. Now, they have the best plants and flowers in town at reasonable prices. Beautiful furniture, decor, gifts, etc. I love this store still and visit at least twice a month. It’s always been me and my mom’s favorites “lets browse” store.
Really nice guys there. I would suggest entering from the Duncan street entrance staying to the left gravel road, if delivering flowers or plants. The dock is very tight and they ask that you not drive on the sod. If you cant back from the right or prefer not to you will have to go back to that entrance and turnaround anyway. Or you will do alot of work just to find out on your own.
They have some interesting things here, but in terms of the plants I am not impressed. A peace Lilly was almost $40, which is INSANE since I can get a peace Lilly anywhere else for around $20. I would be careful about not getting ripped off with some of the items they sell.
My wife and I really enjoy our time here, when we come to this area we always stop to see whats new. A great place to spend time and just browse. This time of year is always fun at Prairie Gardens, they are gearing up for spring and getting all of the materials out that will be needed for early planting and greenhouse gardening. I love to shop here.
I think the number of stars depends on what you are there for. Its a well laid out shop that is mostly home decor and trinkets. We went for plants. The greenhouse is well organized, the plants are healthy. The selection is typical, the prices significantly higher that the other locally owned nursery, very significantly. I decided to check out their selection after being at the other nursery earlier this week and was in shock when I saw the prices, Id never seen coneflower plants that cost that much, the prices were always over the very highest I assumed they would be when I checked the tag. They were very nice quality and quite healthy, but double to triple the price of the nice quality plants Id gotten at the other nursery for the exact same varieties. Ill be sticking to the other locally owned nursery in the future.
Beware of the signs! I always loved coming to this place when in Champaign, but will hesitate in the future. Its a lovely store, but on my way back to Chicago after spending over $300, I realized that I was not given the 50% off sale price on the garlands I bought, which at full price were rather pricey and I would not have purchased them at that price. I called the store and they said theyd look into it. After several hours they let me know that the garlands I bought were not on sale, even though the sign I read said something like all garlands over $x.xx 50% off. She claims that it said spring and floral and I bought fall garlands. It was not obvious that there was a differentiation since the signs were posted in both sections. She said I could ship them back and theyd give me a refund. Well, they are bulky and the shipping cost would be prohibitive. I cannot just get in the car and drive 150 miles to return them. Seems like they could have done something more for customer satisfaction given the unclear signage, but no... I noticed that the employees in several sections of the store yesterday were less than friendly. So sad. Really makes me reconsider spending my money there again. UPDATE: They called back today and said that the buyer would allow them to credit me with 30% off due to the confusion over the signage. That seemed more fair and warrants an additional star for the customer service.
I brought a 69 year old family heirloom mirror here to be framed. Unfortunately they took the back off of it and damaged the mirror. There are now scratches that were not in the mirror originally. The manager offered me a 20% discount on the framing. I had to point out the damages cannot be repaired and the mirror cannot be replaced. She finally decided she could give me 30% of the framing cost. No sense of accountability for their damage. Back to the big box stores for framing. I thought the piece would be safer here. I was wrong
I wish I could give 0 stars. I found a 3 piece end table set that was on close out for 209.99. It was the last one (floor model) the manager only agreed to discount them $15 for the scratches from being displayed, I then noticed a second price tag underneath for $199.99! They told me that the manufacturer set the price higher, which simply doesnt make sense, why would the manufacturer raise the price when they are doing away with that design. I found them at appliance connection for $189.99 so prairie gardens lost my business present and future, I will not shop here again. The manager there doesnt understand in todays age of online shopping that 1 mistake is 1 too many and shouldnt be in the position of dealing with customers.
NEVER BUY FURNITURE FROM THEM. We purchased a porch swing from them. They told us it would be delivered in one week. We called them 1.5 weeks after the purchase. Turns out...the delivery date got delayed to 4-6 weeks. They never bothered to get in touch to let us know. Repeated poor / no communication from them. We are STILL WAITING FOR OUR PORCH SWING. NEVER BUY FURTNITURE FROM THEM. Youll regret it. Plants are fine.Edit: plants are very good so I raised the number of stars. Just stay away from furniture.
I want every plant in this place!! Gorgeous, healthy plants and the variety is outstanding. That said, they are pricey, but I didnt mind because the quality was there. Unfortunately, they do not warranty their perennials for longer than 30 days. Everywhere I buy plants guarantees their perennial plants for 1 year. Due to their short warranty, I wont buy plants there again. The perennial I bought is looking pretty bad. $40 out the window ☹️.
They have cute festivals in the fall and spring which are fun for the kids. The Fall festival includes a maze, petting area, face painting, golf, horse riding, balloons and pumpkin painting. Overall its a great store and a good place to get your spring flowers/garden plants and fall mums. Lots of items for decoration and pots.
Pricey as hell. You’re definitely paying a premium for the selection.Staff is poor. Very condescending and act like they know everything when they clearly don’t. I asked for a fiddlehead fern. Got all sorts of attitude claiming “it is a generic name for a newly sprouting fern.” Except it’s not. It’s a common name for a Matteuccia struthiopteris or ostrich fern or shuttlecock fern. Don’t act like I’m the fool for asking for one.
Friendly, helpful employees. Store, as always, offers an amazing numbers of style and quantity of furniture, crafts, products and samples of ways to put them together to make beautiful wreaths, centerpieces and many other ideas. Two things I dont like: the loud noise the carts make going across the bumpy floor. The second thing is that the items are too close together in the little boutique at the front of the store. Didnt feel comfortable shopping in here because my daughter and I like to take our time looking at all the cool things offered but the person working there walked around looking at us as if she thought we might break something or steal it.Bottom line is I love this store and enjoy buying craft supplies, decorations and flowers. Would absolutely recommend Prairie Gardens to anyone.
I dont know about the return policy that the other reviewer described since we never had the need to return anything across three years of purchases, but the quality and selection of plants always kept my wife and I returning to Prairie Gardens. This is also a great place to get pre-cut Christmas trees. I would not hesitate to recommend this store to anyone in the Chambana area.

2022-04-30It is a great place to find all kinds of of items, especially if you garden! They have all kinds of seeds, and Flowers, and plants that you can plant without waiting on them to grow from seedlings to full size Plants. And if you want a very soft and fun to grow plant that stays green even in winter, get Lambs ear, and it is useful, if you cut yourself outside, just tear of a lambs ear leaf and wet it and wrap it around the cut the cut will stop bleeding! It is Natures Band Aid

2020-12-19It’s the most wonderful time of the year at Prairie Gardens. I found myself almost in tears as I walked In after 35 years. You see my first job at age 17 was here. I learned so much during those few years and am so grateful to see this fabulous institution still thriving .
