The staff is always polite, professional and helpful. We switched to Pope years ago after adopting our first rescue dog. We are now on our second rescue and she stays healthy & happy with the good care from Pope. We have never had any issues with the quality of care our pets have received through the years. The doctors always listen to our concerns and give the needed medications, etc. to keep our pets healthy.
We had an absolutely wonderful experience at the pop animal clinic. Their staff were professional and caring. Dr. Jones explained to us every move of her examination and she is absolutely wonderful and caring. We definitely recommend the pop animal clinic to anyone looking for great caring service. Thank you Dr. Jones and the staff.
I started bringing my dog to Pope Animal Hospital 1 year ago. I was going to a big name Animal Hospital near me where I didn’t feel like my dog was getting great service, I felt like we were just another number for the books. I also felt like I was being overpriced for the service we were getting. A friend recommended Pope Animal Hospital to us and from the second we started going to Pope, I immediately wished we would have switched sooner. We see Dr. Collner and she is amazing with my nervous little dog. The staff at Pope are kind and patient and don’t treat us like we were an annoyance to them (which is often how we felt at our previous location). They understand that I have a nervous guy and they do what they can to help him during his exams. Everything has been explained to us so well and all of our questions have been thoroughly answered. We love the service so much that we’re willing to make the drive every couple of of months for his nail trimmings instead of going someplace closer. I highly recommend giving Pope Animal Hospital a chance!Edit: 7/24/21 Had another amazing check up with our dog and I was just as happy with this visit as I usually am! I already have a teeth cleaning scheduled for August.
We had a good experience with Pope Animal Hospital. Our rescue cat needed dental work. The price was less than the estimate (by quite a bit). She had polyps removed from her ear. They gave her meds to take home. She is doing great and smells so much better. The staff was kind, answered all my questions and the place is clean. I am very pleased.
I’ve been using this vet for my animals for almost 15 years now. I absolutely adore the staff and the office animals! Dr. Jones is who all of my fur babies go to see and she treats them like her own. 🖤 I will forever recommend this amazing place to all my friends and family!
Yesterday my cat woke up with stomach issues and I knew he needed to see a veterinarian. They had an opening at 8:30am. They were so kind to me and Bernie. He had a check up, diagnosed and given some medicine and special food within the hour. And we were both sent home happier and grateful for their care. Thank you all at Pope Animal Hospital. Bernie is much better today! :)
I took my 6 month old German Shepherd in today to get her fixed and chipped at the same time. Although everything went well and have no complaints about the procedure that was done but the care of my animal. When I picked my animal up she was sopping wet in her own urine. So therefore my dog laid in her own urine for hours on end with an open wound in that general area. For the money paid I would expect better care. I will never bring another animal here again.
I have always had a great experience at Pope Animal Hospital. Everyone I have interacted with there has always been super friendly and understanding and arent afraid to take the time you need for your dog. They have always listened to my concerns and made it as easy as possible for me.
It is with sadness that I write this post. After almost 30 years, we were told ( as we were driving to office ) how busy they were and they could not see our dog who fell and was in pain for an emergency appointment. Were even told that the doctor was taking their lunch hour soon. Know that Steven Pope has retired but cant believe this would have ever happened if he were still there. We took our dog to Hawthorne in Glen Carbon......where he passed. We have now secured another vet for our remaining animals.
Been going here for years, but probably finding a new Vet. I dont know exactly what happened, but the level of care has gone down hill. Every time we go , they give us a different Dr. The redhead at the front desk, has always been difficult to deal with, often having a very bad attitude. The other office staff have been great. Our last appt we waited for over 30 min, after our appt time to see the Dr. She seemed like she We were putting her out. Our experiences have just been getting worse and worse. We will most likely be changing to another Vet for our next visit.
Dr.Jones is THE BEST!!! She is the only vet (that Im aware of) that sees sugar gliders in our vicinity. She is always extremely helpful and you can tell she is passionate about what she does. Dr.Jones has seen our sugar gliders (Mr.Bubs and Pudge) for checkups, and is always patient with us when asking questions. We are never rushed or made to feel like we need to hurry up because they have other patients. The staff always makes us and our pets feel welcome, and my wife and I are more than happy to make the 1.5 hour drive to see them and Dr.Jones!
I unfortunately got some not so good news this week about my cat June. But Dr. Jones was amazing! I could tell she cared, she called me multiple times and answered the many questions I had. It definitely helps when you’re told devastating news you weren’t expecting to have someone like her caring for your pet. I couldn’t recommend this place more!
Wouldnt even give them a one if I didnt have to.Here is my experience at Pope Animal Hospital:My 10 mos. old kitten got cut on some broken glass on one paw. I took him there for treatment. The receptionist greets me and I tell her whats wrong with my kitten. She proceeds to the back and comes back and says I have one vet that is leaving and another that is busy and one in surgery but if you are willing to pay the full drop off price of $85 they will see him when someone is free. He is bleeding and they want me to drop off my kitten and when they get around to it they will see my kitten...he is actively bleeding but just let him wait...are you kidding me? Rosewood Animal Hospital took my kitty in right away and stitched my baby and hes doing fine no thanks to Pope Animal Hospital...Ive never been there before but will not be returning!!!
The staff of Pope Animal Hospital has always been very friendly and accommodating to the needs of our dogs. I can schedule appointments that meet our schedule because they have late weekday hours and extensive Saturday hours which is greatly appreciated. The treatment we receive is very professional yet such that they treat our dogs as their own— allowing our dogs to get to know them before beginning treatment, getting on the floor at dog level, talking to them in kind, calming voices, and making sure all questions/concerns are answered. Our dogs love all three doctors and all of the vet techs. There is a reason they are continuously selected as “The Best of the Best” in the area—it’s because they are!!!
I have always had great experiences with the vets and the technicians here. They have always been kind and answered my questions. However, the reason I am not giving Pope Animal Hospital 5 stars is simply because I have been met with rudeness from reception multiple times. This is very frustrating when I am trying to set up appointments or call and get information about me pets. Not all of the receptionists are rude, but there are 1 or 2 that I have dealt with that make me hesitant to even call the vet. More than once I have called and hung up to try and get a different receptionist. Such a shame that the face of a great Animal Hospital can likely ruin it for many others. I will continue to go here because I very much like the vets, but I feel like the receptionists could easily keep people away.
So hard to get my furbaby in there for a vet call appointment when she needs to be seen. Also, I never get out of there without spending 100-150 minimum.... I wish there was another vet clinic/animal hospital closer.... One that was way less expensive and alot better at getting my furbaby in, in a timely fashion.
Ive updated this review as pope reached out to me over the issue we had. Now that this one lady is gone its a much more pleasant experience when dealing with the them. Ive always said the medical part is great and Ive always trusted them with our animals and have started going back. One bad egg can ruin the whole batch.
Talked me into getting my older dog into getting his teeth cleaned and he died they didn’t watch him ,they should have paid more attention to him after pulling as many teeth as they did why would they put my dog thru all this if he was just to old to do this when I get another pet I’ll take it to anyone but POPE ANIMAL HOSPITAL IN Alton Illinois IF there were -stars that’s what I’d gives just like I read through Dr Pope reviews he does surgeries after surgeries and the pets don’t get the proper. Watching they deserve that’s why a lot of pets die in dr popes hands ! It was a fantastic veterinarian hospital when dr reed was there it’s gone way down hill since then🥲
Dr. Pope & his staff are good people. Just a little disappointed with our most recent visit. Our dog was diagnosed with an ear infection. They just gave us drops. Putting drops effectively into a dogs ear is akin to giving a cat a bath. It generally does not end well. So, we called back and explained our difficulties. They said... Well, we can do a one-time treatment instead. Another trip and another $40 later, we are now hopefully on the the right track, without the hassle of drops 2x a day. Just wish we would have been offered this option up front on the FIRST visit. Hope this tidbit helps someone else in the future.
Pope Animal Hospital has become all about the money not the pets. My dog is diabetic they charge 28 dollars more for 100 syringes than Walmart and Chewy.com. Dont know about everyone else but thats a LOT OF MONEY FOR ME. So Im choosing another veterinarian. Good bye Pope
Normally never have a problem but tried to get a flea pill for my dog and was told I couldnt get one unless I had an up to date physical. I explained I take her to Vetco for her shots because it is cheaper. I was told if I bring that in I could get a flea pill. Never had that happen before so I just went to Petco and got flea medicine which works for me its hard to get my dog to take pills anyway.
I took my cat, Arya, for an exam about an eye issue. Given how everything is right now, they were very fast with getting her in and I got a call not too long later from the veterinarian with good news and a lot of friendly reassurances. Arya got up to date on her vaccines and the pricing was very reasonable. Every member of staff I spoke with while I was there was also very friendly, which I value a lot. Before that, they found my other cat who was missing for almost two months and brought her in for the night and gave her to me the next day and wanted nothing but to get her back home to me, and Ill always be super grateful. Ill definitely be bringing my other cats here for their checkups and highly recommend!
Ive taken our animals to Dr. Pope for years and would never consider taking them anywhere else. Dr. Pope has managed their routine health needs, oversaw senior dog and cat issues and, when it was time, made the old dogs transition as kind and gentle as possible. They have always let me bring my other animals afterward so that everyone knows not to search for the dog thats not coming home. Appointments are easy to schedule, prescription refills, too. Everyone there clearly loves animals and does everything they can to keep them healthy.
My 12 year old Chihuahua Precious ended up going to the Pope Animal Hospital two weeks ago. She had a Chicken Jerky Dog treat caught in her throat. They suggested that they put her under anesthesia and use a scope to push the treat from her esophagus to her stomach. All in all, it ended up costing me $700. They prescribed her 5 different prescriptions, not a one of them for pain. They called me the next day to ask me how she was. I told them she wasnt really acting herself. She was very lethargic and wouldnt really drink much, much less eat ANYTHING, which they responded to with its normal behavior considering it wasnt even 36 hours after the surgery took place. So I left it at that. 72 hours after the surgery took place she wasnt acting any better whatsoever. Worse unfortunately. So this time I called them. They pretty much told me I could bring her in again but it wasnt going to be free! $700 for what? $700 later and my dog was worse then before I took her!!! Needless to say I dont have that kinda money just at a moments notice.. I had to beg, barrow, and pled to get that money to begin with. Precious was worth every single penny. AND many more. She ended up passing away 4 days after her appointment with the Pope Animal Hospital. I just want people to know what happened with my fur baby, hopefully I can stop it from happening to yours. PLEASE DONT TAKE YOUR ANIMALS THERE!!! I WISH I WOULD HAVE NEVER NEVER TAKEN MINE THERE..
Dr. Pope is one of the best vets in this area. I remember many yrs ago, I had found a female cat with 5 newborn kittens, make a long story short I didnt have the money for the medicine, and Dr. Pope gave it to me, no charge. This is the reason I have always taken my babies. He also came in the clinic after he was retired, to put my dearest friend Havoc down, a 95 lbs Pitt mix, we put a muzzle on him and when pope came in the room he told his helper, take that muzzle off him, that alone, made a place in my heart forever with Dr.Pope.
The veterinarians and all the staff at Pope Animal Hospital are the best! Everyone is friendly, caring, professional, and you can tell they really enjoy their jobs. They interact equally well with their two-legged and four-legged customers. Ive had great experiences bringing in both of my dogs for their annual checkups and shots, and once when one of my dogs experienced a severe split toenail (up into the quick) that I was worried about, I was able to get an appointment within a few hours to have him taken care of. Thanks for taking great care of our fur babies!
They are great! Owning my first kitten they have been amazing about answering all the questions I have. They are even willing to show you how to do certain things to help keep your pet happy and healthy! It’s also extremely awesome that they have appointment little later in the day.
I just moved to the area and was nervous about not being able to take my 11 yr old kitty to her usual vet when she suddenly showed signs of an eye infection. Pope fit me in on a Saturday even though they were obviously busy just before close. Madison was welcoming, knowledgeable and sincere. I was uncomfortable sending my girl in alone( due to their smart Covid precautions of allowing only pets inside and communicating via phone from parking lot) but was pleasantly surprised by how quickly she was treated and all my questions answered. In and out in about 20 minutes no extra BS fees for no appointment or weekend visit, no unnecessary meds to rack up the bill...right around $100! I didnt meet the actual vet but he stayed later on his Saturday to treat my Jamie and answer my nervous mom questions, thank you! My sensitive kitty was obviously treated very tenderly while inside as she returned more calm and confident than when they took her in! 5 out of 5 stars in every category. We found our new vet for sure! (Madison is a gem!)
Ive been taking my animals here for years and Ive always felt like they were very well taken care of. Dr. Pope is the best, however some of the younger doctors Ive had there more recently havent been the most informative or skillful. But still, everyone there is very helpful and friendly, especially the techs and front desk. Toni is great! I like that I can call and ask anything and Im always given advice and Ive often gotten last minute or walk in appointments which is nice since Im a busy mom. Overall I am very pleased with Pope Animal Hospital and will continue to send my animals there and recommend them to my friends.
I had to take our gerbil to Pope Animal Hospital today, thinking we may have to have him euthanized. Dr. Jones was so helpful and caring and was able to treat our pet for pneumonia. She did such an excellent job handling him and making sure we knew what to do to help him get better. Everyone was so nice and friendly, and I also felt the cost for the visit and treatment was beyond reasonable! I would highly recommend Pope! So thankful to have found them today!
The entire staff at Pope Animal Hospital are very caring people. They get you in fast and do everything they can to take care of your fur babies. They treat each one as if they were their own. Ive always had the best care when needed. Ive been to other vets in the past and never have been as happy with anyone else. Ive been with them now for over 20 years and have been happy with every visit.
Pope has been our go-to vet for many years now. They have amazing, kind staff and theyre so genuine. My dog that I took there today (out of the 6 we have taken there) wasnt doing well at all and we werent sure why or if we had any options. We got there early, about 35 minutes early. I left my mom in the car with our dog and went in and explained that he really needed to be seen and we were early. One of the employees opened a room right up for us to bring him into. We laid him down and were immediately helped. Sadly, our poor dog didnt make it. We turned around for a second and he had a bloody nose and had stopped breathing. The vet tech then called immediately for a veterinarian and they took him to the back to an ultrasound machine or something along the lines of that to look for a heartbeat. He was gone, and we were crushed. The Vet and her assistant then gave my mother and I hugs and didnt make us pay a dime. I love Pope and plan on always taking my dogs there.
Pope Animal Hospital has been around for years, really as far back as I can remember. Ive been there in the past. Ive had two cats fixed there in the last ten years, and have taken others for shots. Normally, the vets give good service, but the receptionist that has been there for years is always rude, which causes me to use them as a last resort.Yesterday, I took my cat, who is 15 years old and was vomiting almost constantly. Like, every ten minutes. She wasnt eating and was vomiting clear liquids, and once there was blood. Obviously, its horrifying. Shes 15, some cats dont even make it that long. So, I took her there cause that was the vet that could get me in. Shes never been before. Hawthorne is my go to Veterinary Hospital. Pope never asked her age. Never asked me her diet. Never asked me if she has any health issues. They did the brief basic physical of checking her teeth and listening to her stomach. Thats all. They did an xray, then when that came up clean theyre like we can give you some nausea medication and send you home or run a blood panel and send the medicine with you. Okay, my cat cant eat and has lost three pounds, do the blood tests. Meanwhile, in the back the vet tech is cussing up a storm, which while I cuss, there is a risk of children coming in and hearing them. As theyre packaging the medication for my cat another vet tech asks the doctor if its for an adult cat and the vets response was Oh, I think so. Not only is my cat an adult, shes a senior. You dont treat a 5 year old cat the same as 15 year old. Then, after the blood is drawn, the vet passed the vials on to someone who is just standing there confused because they didnt have any communication as to what to do with it. The reason why I saw all this and could say anything, is the doctors office is set up to where you can see into their back room from an exam room. So I wasnt in the same room as them or else I would have taken my cat and walked out. Now, the test results were supposed to be back today. Doctors words were if I dont call you tomorrow, you call me. I called. Twice. She never called back.
Great vet, people, and facility. I would recommend it to anyone. I brought my dog, Brookie, in because he was sick. They ran a series of tests and broke the news to me. He was in bad trouble. When it was all explained to me by the Vet, she suggested that he be put down because he had problems that couldnt be fixed and he would, in a short time, be suffering from severe pain. She was very understanding and compassionate. 💗👍
After taking many animals to another local vet, it was time to seek a new OFFICE because I was not happy with several of the staff members at the other office. Dr. Pope and his staff have been awesome with my pets. He truly is a caring doctor and does whatever necessary to make both the humans and the animals comfortable. I highly recommend this business!
They charged me full price when the vet refused to even enter the room with my dog. He is hurting and alone with people he doesn’t know. I was not allowed to be in the room with him and when he barked the Dr.Pope refused to even enter the room they didn’t tell me any of this until after they had received payment and I was given a bottle of drops that has “a little bit of everything in it so it should fix whatever his problem is”. Seriously??? When I called to ask wth I was hung up on 3rimes and then left on hold for 45 min before I was told if u have a problem call on Monday and talk to the manager! I and my babies will NEVER be darkening their door again! Talk about unprofessional!!!!!
We have been going here for over 10 years, and have complete trust in Dr. Pope and Dr. Jones. This month my senior cat, and dog have been seriously ill. Once again the entire staff was very caring and professional. We were given Sub-Q fluids and several oral medications, and were throughly educated on my cats home care, allowing us to avoid hospitalization. But, most importantly, my pets are now healthy and were all happy, due to the excellent level of vet care we experienced at Pope Animal Hospital.
First off, I will say I have been taking multiple pets to Pope for many years. I have never once had a problem. But this is the first time I have been treated so shabbily, by anyone there.Dr. Pope is a good vet, and all his techs are wonderful!! I would normally recommend him to anyone. With the exception of one employee, an older woman by the name of Georgia. I took one of my pets there this afternoon, and while I was waiting to be released. I admit, I asked a passing tech (Georgia) something, unfortunately I made a mistake mistaking her for someone else.I must have said something she obviously didnt like. Because when I tried to get the attention of someone else, who she wanted to speak with herself. Instead of politely asking me to leave the room, she became extremely RUDE and aggressive!!! Then scolded me like a child, I was incredibly surprised. NEVER have I been treated this way there, EVER.Before I left, a tech apologized to me for how I had been treated. But they did it in a low voice, looking around as if theyd be caught doing something wrong. So it makes me wonder if this hasnt happened before to others.I will say again, I love the Pope Hospital. But this has seriously made me consider changing vets. I do admit some fault in the matter for being at the wrong place/time. However, this woman shouldnt be working with the public. And her behavior reflects poorly on all the good Employees and Doctors of Pope who obviously love their jobs.
We have only been taking our pup here for 3 months and we have received the best service. Pope and all the other doctors at the hospital love all the animals that come through that door! We always are welcomed with a smiling face and love it every time we walk in! They have taken in our pup like it was their own! I am so glad we made the decision of taking our first dog here, it is where we will take all of our future dogs too!
I have always been pleased with the service we receive at Pope Animal Hospital. They treat my animals with TLC and respect. We recently had to put our Lab mix, Lucy, to sleep and they were so kind to Lucy, my husband, and me and helped us through the emotionally difficult procedure. We still have our dog, Stanley, and he receives excellent care from the Pope Animal Hospital family. I love that they send Facebook posts and keep me updated on whats going on there. I would highly recommend Pope Animal Hospital to take care of all your pets needs.
A lot of these reviews seem very similar. I have taken 3 dogs there for care that dave died with in a week. 1 hip problems... why would he die? Another one gets a claw ripped off. Why would she died? The only one that makes sense is an older dog but even with that I have questions now. Id find another vet. 10 minutes to be charged $100 for broad-spectrum antibiotics and painkillers... and now theyre going to want me to pay for my dog to be cremated too. Kind of seems like a pattern to me.
I went to pope for the first time today. Just moved to the area and needed a vet and heard good things. I have two yorkies that needed rabies shots a check up and kennel cough vaccine. My older yorkies also had her nails clipped and my puppy needed ear drops and I got their heart worm medication. I left there paying a bill of 526.00 that is outrageous. I also got an estimate to get my male fixed and 4 puppy teeth pulled that was 440.00 when calling formea Who has better reviews then pope and more reviews I was floored to hear that their estimate was half the price. And my visit would have been half this price. This makes me sick. I love my babies they are my children. But some of these places are ripping us off and making it not affordable to take out pets to the vet. Shame on them for that. They didn’t even take their time with my dogs. They even blew my puppies vein trying to draw blood. I’m truly upset about my entire visit today to say the least. My dogs won’t be back
Ive been taking my pets to Pope Animal Hospital for more than 20 years. Everyone is very nice and helpful. I have always felt that my animals have received the best care. Many times over these years I have needed their help and have received excellent pet care. Thanks to all the staff and doctors.
I have taken my dog here for about 4 yrs now. At first I really felt like they cared and now its like we are a bother. The annual check ups are a joke. You have to ask the dr to even look at the teeth. I would think he would look and listen to everything. And I cant prove it, but I swear the vaccines they gave my dog made her blind. She had them on a Sat and up until that day was perfect. Shes still young with no health problems. Well 3 days later my baby is blind. This is devastating. I was a blubbering mess and not one of the staff there said anything consoling. I took her back to verify that she was blind and they diagnosed her with SARDS in less than a min by shining a light in her eyes. I expected more.
Took Lucy our newly adopted 3yrs old African Grey in for her first vet visit. It was also my first time visiting. Could not have been more pleased with Dr Jones and the staff. She is extremely knowledgeable. The price was right about where I was expecting. Wellness check up and nails and was under $70 Highly recommended
I recently took my two dogs in for their annual physicals. I must say I was very disappointed. It was the first time my dogs have been seen by Dr. Pope. He listened to their heart and lungs for all of 10 seconds. He didnt even look at their coats, teeth, or ears. He said they were doing just fine. Im not sure how he could tell this in the three minutes he was in the room with us.I will say I adore the other staff at the office. They are always so friendly and love your pets just as much as you do. Great job to the office staff!
I selected Pope Animal Hospital for my older cat when I moved to the area because I had heard good reviews. I was more than impressed when Dr. Pope examined my cat without her really realizing it - she thought she was just being petted. That he took the time to actually interact with my cat and examine her as he made her feel comfortable and secure was priceless to me.
This is the best vet to go to in this area. Ive been coming here for almost 12 years now with my sweet baby girl. Dr.Pope and his staff are very kind, caring, compassionate and truly want the best for animals. Ive referred family and friends who now go there too. Give them a try, you wont be disappointed and Im sure youll see for yourself their the best. God Bless all the animals, his wonderful, loving creatures.
I have always taken my dogs to Pope Animal Hospital! They are always caring and helpful. They take time to play with our dog. She looks forward to visiting. They have been there from the birth of a litter of puppies to even made the most painful experience (putting our dog to sleep) as pleasant as possible. Thanks for your years of service.
We love Pope Animal Hospital! They really deliver on Their MissionTo provide the highest quality medical care to our patients and the best possible service to our clients. The Office Staff is always friendly and helpful and the Veterinarians and Technicians are the best around… true excellence in veterinary care.Services include everything from Internal Medicine, Micro Chipping, and Dental Care to Acupuncture, Behavioral Medicine, and Nutritional Counseling. The have convenient office hours, a fully stocked Pharmacy and they even have an online site where you can check your pets’ records.Pope Animal Hospital has always treated our pets like the cherished family members that they are and we highly recommend them for all of your pet’s health needs.
If I could only rate Dr.Jones Id give 5 stars but since this is Popes clinic, Im averaging it out to 3. Dr. Pope does the absolute bare minimum during examinations if he examines your dog at all. He doesnt do teeth checks, doesnt ask history, nothing. Just comes in, tentatively pats the dog, may listen to their heart then is done. Or maybe thats simply because he is afraid of my dogs, theyre pit mixes. Dr. Jones on the other hand asks questions. She is also the only one there that pays attention to a dogs body language (not all dogs enjoy new people touching them) and works within their comfort zone, not over it - shes pretty great. Dr. Collner is okay but also sometimes rushes through exams, maybe she feels that our concern is unwarranted or something, I dont know. We spend a lot of money at this practice - 6 animals worth of a lot of money - if Dr. Jones ever moves on to another practice, so do we.
I have been bringing my pets to Pope Animal Hospital for almost 20 years. Dr Pope and his staff are always very professional and caring to me and my dogs and cats. They always take the time to answer all of my questions and make sure I understand all aspects of the care they provide.
I have 3 dogs and 2 cats!! They are the best! The doctors that my pets have seen are really great. I took a stray cat there and they were very helpful in providing me with information on food, etc to get the cat back to good health. I hope to keep going for many years to come.
Wonderful and friendly animal hospital! Very clean, and super sweet giant dogs hang out behind the counter. Very nice atmosphere, and great and helpful staff. Our vet is Dr. Kelly Jones and she is enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and awesome. Definitely recommend. They really care about animals and are so nice!
I so love Dr. Kelly who always has such a gentle caring way about handling our over anxious Milo every time he comes in for his yearly exam. She has always been so thorough with his exam and takes the time to educate us and answer any of our questions and concerns. The entire staff at the hospital is so helpful, friendly, and caring. Just a very warm welcoming atmosphere. Thank you all so very much and keep up the good work.(Even Milo thanks you in his own special way :-D
My grandma dog went in for a check up the next day he passed away because of a tumor on his heart. My grandma had no knowledge of this and asked the doctor what the problem was while she was there for the check up. Then just today my boyfriend took their dog to see of he had worms week ago and the doctor confirmed he was fine. Today found worms in his stools. Not impressed that this keeps happening to animals. Im sure they are well educated just need to double check their work so this does not keep happening
Our dog Beau is 16 years old. Twice now shes exhibited signs of a big stroke and was, in our estimation, dying. Twice we have taken her to Dr. Pope - thinking we were going to be saying our goodbyes to our beloved dog. Twice, Dr. Pope brought her back from that brink and restored her to a reasonable quality of life that gave us the peace of mind that it wasnt time to say goodbye yet. In our mind, Dr. Pope is a miracle worker.
I have been taking our dogs to Pope Anaimal Hospital for about 3 years now. Always great service and much less expensive that most of the other locations around. They have always seen us in a timely mannor but can get busy (just like everywhere else).I noticed a comment on here about somone upset over the hospital not giving out paperwork about an animal they didnt own. I appriciate them treating my dogs records just like a humans. Privacy is a big issue. You wouldnt want your Doctor giving out your records even if somone else paid for it.....Great place and they have a new Vet in house as well. She did a great job!
Dr. Pope and all Doctors and staff treated my beloved dog and myself like family. The charges for services are minimal and the care received is priceless. I had my dog for 12 years from the time I rescued her as an abandoned puppy until the day she looked at me with those eyes that said its time to say goodbye. Pope Animal Hospital helped her to have a quality of life and I am thankful. RIP Babygirl BG BeeGee
Im new to the area so I asked around around about vets offices and this place was highly recommended by many people. At first, I was very pleased. Finding a vet that even agrees to see rabbits can be super difficult and I had a really great initial visit. I was apprehensive about getting my bunny neutered because they are very sensitive to anesthesia, surgery, stress and pretty much anything. After speaking with the vet at Pope I felt much more confident and scheduled the surgery. The first problem was being contacted about a week before the surgery to reschedule because they didnt have the necessary supplies and wouldnt be able to get them in time. I had already taken leave at work and scheduled a trip out of town (planning on taking the rabbit with me) for the new surgery date so I was a little annoyed. I was told he could travel two days after the surgery so I adjusted my trip. I was slightly annoyed but I figured it wasnt worth making a big stink about. The surgery went well but I was then informed he was supposed to come in a week later for a complementary check-up. When the reschedule happened, I told them we would be out of town and I was slightly annoyed no one told me about the recommended follow up appointment at that time. That night, he frantically started licking and biteing towards his back end. I thought he was going after his stitches. I then see his back leg is bandaged and hes pulling on a tube coming out of the bandages. I called the office but they were closed. I couldnt leave a voicemail because their machine cuts off after about 5 seconds. There was a number on the recording so I called it thinking I was going to reach a staff member. Turns out Im calling an emergency room over in Collinsville. They explain that what Im probably seeing is an IV catheter mistakenly left in. It was clearly upsetting him so I decided to make the hour and half, midnight trip to Collinsville. The staff there was super helpful and took it out for free. They had to wrap his leg afterwards because it was bleeding pretty badly from him trying to rip it out. I took my poor, sad little bunny home and at this point Im pretty upset. I called the office in the morning to express my concerns. The receptionist was kind but was more concerned with placing blame on an individual. I tried to explain that I wasnt mad that a mistake was made, thats just a part of life. I was mad that there wasnt a system in place to catch these mistakes because thats a huge mistake. I was supposed to receive a call back. Its been two full business days later and Im still waiting on that call back. Ive lost a lot of faith in this office and I am overall really disappointed in the lack of organization and consistency.
They were the best! I was distraught and worried, my puppy was in pain and they took care of both of us! 😍 I have to say that this will be the only place I bring my animals to from now on. Friendly, caring, and Dr. Kelly really came through for my puppy and I ❤️💜💙💚💛🐾
Dr. Pope is money hungry. Took our bearded dragon here on a Monday and were seen by Dr. Kelly, who was exceptional, but our beardie didnt make it through the night. I called the next morning to cancel his future appts and to let them know not to order the medication he was going to need later in the week that I had to PREPAY for. The receptionist told me that Dr. Pope will NOT be refunding the money I prepaid for the medication they were going to order. So now, Im out $130 for the office visit and exam and 68$ for a medication I dont need and hasnt even been ordered yet!! Im damn sure going to be up there this Friday to pick up this medication I dont need, but I paid for it, so it better be there.
My daughter took Oliver her cat there after being attacked by a pit bull, Dr Pope checked him out and said he should be fine. $200.00 she took him home, he died the next day!!! 8/10/2017My daughter tried calling to speak with Pope, about Olivers death, ,. Pope would not return her calls or Out of the Office🤔
My dogs (4) love this place because everyone is friendly and competent when you walk in the door. Then there are the members of the medical staff who put you at ease and take care of whatever problem you present. Ive been going there for years and would recommend them

2022-04-29I have had great experiences in the past and a few recent bad experiences. Unfortunately they have sold out to a separate entity so no longer have the good veterinarians that they did before. The vet that saw my dog told me what the problems with my dog could be and what we could do for treatment instead of saying what exactly the issue was and exactly how it needed to be treated. I was charged a late fee when there was snow and ice and because my dog had to go to the bathroom when we pulled up, then because of waiting in line before I got checked in, around 7 minutes late. I have been loyal to Pope for many years and I am now changing veterinarians because of how they have changed. I miss when Dr. Ford was there because I always knew exactly what was going on and had all of the cost broke down on paper to discuss before having anything done. Dr. Ford also explained exactly what was going on and exactly what needed to be done to fix it. I am only providing 4 stars because of the previous visits that I had there

2022-05-25Bottom line? This is not Pope Animal Hospital. Dr. Pope retired. The current doctors and staff have neither the capacity nor the compassion to care about animals the way Dr. Pope did and it is a shame.Although they still have his awards hanging on the wall, this is not the same hospital. Kinda like buying trophies at a thrift store and putting them on display as though you earned them... the current operation at Pope hasnt earned a Best of Riverbend award in years. The administrative desk staff has, for the most part, completely turned over too. A few of the techs remain and they are absolutely AWESOME, but the doctors leave much to be desired. What was once an operation with many doctors is now down to one or two doctors and soon, so the rumor mill goes, will be one very soon. The point is that Pope is so far removed from Dr. Popes vision. The current leadership has ran the operation into the ground and customer and client reviews are really beginning to document their shortcomings. You can learn a lot by sitting in the waiting room and listening to how people are treated and billed. At the end of the day, having a trusted vet who answers your questions, especially during a medical urgency or emergency, matters a lot. Pope failed to do that for us and we will not soon forget their lack of compassion and too-busy-to-give-a-damn attitude, especially during an end-of-life crisis. Shameful.

2022-05-24This is THE WORST vet I have ever experienced in my life!! The staff is rude. My dog never even got seen. I wouldnt recommend this place to my worst enemy!! After forcing me to prepay a 60 dollar deposit prior to the appointment, I had car troubles and couldnt get there. They refused to give me back my money forcing me to make another appointment. When I couldnt get to that one because of my disability health issues, I was told I could only have drop off appointments for my dog from then on. So, I cant even be there with her now?? What kind of people are these?? So I asked for my money back... I was told they would have to discuss it. I let them know that keeping my money without providing services was stealing...and it is.

2022-04-19This animal hospital is great. They love animals, as any vet service should, but they take great care of guardians also. The staff is patient, thorough, and compassionate. We have had all our animals cared for by them for over twenty years.

2022-02-16Have to pay in advance which is odd but what really rubbed me wrong is that I had pups being seen that were just a few weeks old with a rash and most vets will give you a visit and prescription for the whole litter rather than making you bring them ALL in. Not this one, they want the money for each pup individually. So an office visit charge for each. I’ve never had a vet do that! That says to me it’s all about the money. Also not a very friendly staff and vet had no clue. Should have done a scraping and sent to a lab but just said she didn’t know and through some antibiotics at it. We were NOT impressed and will not be going back.

2022-07-02Most unprofessional vet I have ever encountered…Pope decided to close really early Thursday for who knows what reason so I couldn’t get my cats eye meds, why they couldn’t have one person stay to take care of these issues is being me. I was told to come Friday by 4:30, I was at their door at 4:25, doors were locked, lights out, about 8 cars in the parking lot and they would not answer the phone or door. I get it was 5 min before said closing time but my transaction would have taken 2 min most and if you say your open til 4:30, you don’t close a minute early especially in the very field, so very unprofessional, rude and most importantly dangerous cause now my cat won’t have his meds till Tuesday due to the holiday. Who knows what will happen with my cat in the meantime, I’m sure I’ll be paying hundred to take him to a vet hospital because he has to have it twice a day and Pope even told my eye issues can get really bad real fast! I’m infuriated with your negligence on my cats health! Pope use to be a great vet and it’s very sad how drastically they have went down hill! They just lost 7 pets to care for from my family cause you have proven you obviously don’t care enough about the pets you see!! Seems like another company has went completely lazy!!

2022-05-03Everyone helpful. Miss the office people who were there. Jenna and Toni. Cost outrageously expensive. Thank goodness my pets are in good health. Not very helpful on how to save. I am older and need more patient explanations.

2022-04-25They are great with all my animals including my peacocks. They take their time and allowed me to go back to xray area with my peacock to show them how to position him correctly to get a good picture

2020-03-25If I could give 10 stars I would!! Best veterinarians in the Metro East!! Dr. Pope has done excellent work for us for years with our pets. Hes very kind and knowledgeable. Always willing to help answer questions and explain things where they can be understood. All the staff have always been super kind and such good! Our dog wiggles with excitement to see Aaron each time we are there. Pope Animal Hospital is easy to get to and has ample parking. I would highly recommend Dr. Pope and all of his staff for any of your veterinary needs.

2020-07-21I was met with kindness throughout the entire process of having my puppy spayed & chipped. Everyone from the girl at the front desk to tech who explained everything that would be going on. He advised I would receive a call around lunch to let me know how my baby was doing and I received the call as promised. When I picked her up, the tech gave directions on what to do and if I had any issues that I could call. Definitely had a very good experience with Pope Animal Hospital and I highly recommend them.
