THE STAFF IS ONE ONE OF THE BEST 🏆IF NOT THE BEST. THEY ARE EXTREMELY KNOWLEDGEABLE 🧠, HARD WORKERS 💪, & MOST OF ALL KIND. THE VEGETABLES ARE ALWAYS FRESH AND PICTURE PERFECT 🖼. THE MEAT DEPARTMENT I MUST SAY IS A TAD BIT EXPENSIVE; HOWEVER THE BUTCHERS 🥩 HAVE SOME OF THE BEST CUTS. THERE ADULT BEVERAGES SECTION IS AMAZING FULL OF SPIRITS , WINES 🍷 & CRAFT BEERS 🍻 FROM ALL OVER THE 🌎. DID SOMEONE SAY CHEESE 🧀 PLEASE! I AM NOT BIG ON CHEESE YET AND STILL HAVING SO MANY CHOICES TO CHOOSE FROM I FOUND MYSELF A COUPLE NICE BITES. THE PREPARED 🍱 IS SIMPLY 🔥 AND THE CHEFS WHO PREPARE THE COOKED MEALS HAVE AN EYE FOR DETAIL. AT TIMES ONE MIGHT THINK THE FOOD IS FAKE & TRUST ME IT IS NOT, IT’S JUST PREPARED BY FUTURE MICHELIN ⭐️ CHEFS. THE BAKERY IS FULL OF FRESH SWEET PASTRIES 🥮 🍰 A MUST STOP. THAT IS RIGHT BEFORE MY FAVORITE PLACE THE FLORIST 🌸 FULL OF FRESH AROMAS, LOVELY VIVID, VIBRANT, & COLORFUL. THEN HERE COMES WHAT TRULY KEEPS ONE COMING BACK THE CHECKOUT YOU HAVE THE CHOICE TO GO TO THE SELF CHECKOUT WHICH IS GOOD FOR THOSE IN A RUSH; HOWEVER I LIKE TO CHECK OUT OUR FRONTLINE CASHIERS WHO TRULY KEEP MANY COMING BACK. OVERALL WHAT AN AMAZING STAFF WHO HAVE BATTLED THROUGH THE TRYING PAST YEAR AND A HALF TO DELIVER NOT JUST THE GROCERIES AND KEEP THE DOORS OPEN BUT THWY ALSO DELIVER GOOD ENERGY AND SMILES 😊
Plum Market is a nice place to shop if you are looking for specialty foods. This store has products from companies most people have never heard of. They are very prominent in organic food. Shoppers can find just about everything in organic. The store itself is of medium size. I was there on a Sunday afternoon and it was fairly busy. It is very well stocked with lots of items. The meat department has beautiful looking meat and fish (even whole fish. ) The butchers are ready to cut your selection just like you want it.They also have a large selection of wines, and it appears they have discounts. Just about all of the shoppers had some wine in their cart.If you live in this area, go check the store out.
The best meat and produce in the city! Their grocery shelves are always rotating with some new and unique products to try which I love. Don’t forget to download their app to clip all the digital coupons! The team members are always abundant around the store - they’re all so friendly and happy to help!
The employees are so kind and helpful. I was looking for liquid skin and asked if they had any in stock. They looked and didnt have any liquid bandaids. I was leaving the store then one of the employees gave me some of the liquid skin, alcohol wipes, and triple ointment antibiotic out of their first aid kit. I really appreciate how kind they are at this store.
I love the Plum, my only complaint is there isnt one close to my home. Excellent wine, beer, and spirits selection supported by the best in the business staff. These peeps are the real deal and are so knowledgeable, no dodos here. Even though I come for the fresh produce and specialty products, I always end up with a basket full of candles and other non essential items, you never know when you need a last minute gift for yourself, lol.
Plum Market is comparable to Whole Foods in many ways. However, the price point overall is much higher and the prepared food doesnt hold a candle to Whole Foods when it comes to taste. Especially, the desserts. Still, they tend to a wider selection of product variations from brands like Jenis ice cream, Cascadian Farms, Katz etc. They are also the only grocery store where Ive been able to find heritage eggs and Culina dairy-free yogurt. I do prefer their produce and how much easier it is to find what youre looking for. I just wish I was able to get more for my money there.
Very nice selection of fresh foods but the price point is extremely high, even higher than Whole Foods. In particular, the prepared entrees are priced much higher than they need to be. For an example, a medium size piece of unremarkable grilled chicken breast is $9.98 which is ridiculous. Whole Foods sold the same size medium chicken but grilled properly and very good pricing for $7 for 2 pieces. I suggest that Plum Market revisit the pricing of their prepared entrees. Also, the staff I encountered at the Plum Market in Old Town Chicago were not friendly, did not appear to like working with the public and were poor representatives for this company. In the prepared foods section, several people were waiting to be served as the staff member just stood there daydreaming—training seems to be lacking. It seems that Plum has a difficult time attracting quality employees which is a sad commentary on their recruitment and hiring practices. There is no excuse for this in view of the tremendous profits grocery stores are making during covid. What is Plum Market doing to give back to its customers? Nothing.
Was trying it as an alternative to Jewel on Clark and Division, which I dislike intensely. Overall, nice store - looks like that might have a very good alcohols selection, just looking at the size and diversity of it - but for an occasional trip only. Overpriced and trendy, feels like 50% dilution of Whole Foods. Some interesting items, but, also, not comprehensive enough for your standard grocery shopping.
High end organic grocery store with an attached coffee shop and wine bar. Produce always looks ripe and picture perfect. Meat, deli, and fish counter always have an exquisite looking selection. They also have a hot bar and sushi service. Food is always quality just be prepared to pay a little more. Parking is reimbursed with purchase.
I really like this store.I drove all the way from Hyde Park to get 3 bottles of Riunart champagne. I enjoyed the store so much that I bought fresh flowers, fresh fruit( mangos, watermelon and apples), milk, probiotics and orange juice.I was indeed impressed with the uniqueness of this grocery store
Best grocery store in the city! Their Plum rewards program is great. They are always sending coupons and alerts about flash sales. Their produce and meat is even better than whole foods. Very friendly, helpful staff in every department and checkout. My only complaint is that they closed the bar, that was a great meeting place!
Plum Market is a gem of a store with beautifully curated products. Their meats are the best of any grocery store and while not a huge store you can find great produce, dairy, international items, nuts and wines. I would not buy paper goods here and dont expect to find the variety of a store like Marianos. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. There is free indoor parking and an Intelligentsia coffee attached. The prepared foods are good along with a quality delivery section. The bakery is fair and it would be great to see it expanded. Big selection of organic and homeopathic products.
Pros- convenient if you’re looking for high end / organic items to shop for- clean, nice store overall, super nice staff- coffee at the cafe area is good (and not overpriced like the rest of the retail section)Cons- bar and counter ready to eat food seems very average especially for the price tag. I’ve had 3 meals from their bar and everything I’ve tried was subpar: too dry (chicken / beef meat), too compact (salmon spread), not tasty (turkey meatballs, grilled veggies, frittatas) or all of the above :/Much lower quality than what I get at Whole Foods in the Bay Area
Sadly this one great market has declined a great deal.It was had s great deli and hot bar. Bought cooked ribs today with shards of bone and tasteless meat. Almost broke a tooth on chips of bone.Hummus was watery. Not worth their prices for low quality food. I won’t shop there again.
Nice mid sized community style grocery store. If you are a stickler for organic goods this is the place to be, a little pricey but it seems worth it. And for those of you who live the Chicago area , Instacart does work with this grocery store in case you don’t feel like leaving out sometimes.
Great addition to Old Town for those that want fresh and/or organic food. Very happy with the produce and seafood sections, along with the very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Always nice when the seafood counter helps with cooking pointers/tips. Beware of prices that are higher than Whole Foods (ouch).
Fantastic variety of specialty goods. They have everything from deli meat to premium hand soaps. The deli guys are so very helpful. They will allow you to sample pretty much anything. The cheese variety is fantastic, the pre-packaged snacks look interesting (there are so many brands I dont recognize but am excited to try). Free 2 hour parking with a validated receipt. Note: ApplePay only works with American Express card at this location.
Great quality of food, nice shopping experience. And they have an excellent selection of beer, wine and spirits. The people their are friendly and more than happy to help you out or just chat. However prices make whole foods seem like a bargain.Ive seen $6 avacados, $37 dollar per pound steak and a $10 per pound salad bar.Ben and Jerrys ice cream costs over $7, where the Jewel one block away has $1 avacados, $9 steaks, $6 salad bar and Ben and Jerrys is two for $7.But the Jewel service is terrible. So its an individual choice. Do you want to pay extra for a pleasant shopping experience? Then Plum market is a good choice.
Wow! I just moved to Old Town. LOVE THIS PLACE!! Delicious preprepared foods and groceries. Big place. Street Parking. Great location. Highly recommended! They had spanikopita (spinach pie) that was out of this world but they just discontinued it. So disappointing!! But this place is fantastic!!
They spoiled me! I visited this location while on a weekend vacation and was utterly spoiled by the staff. I simply asked for a wine recommendation and the next thing I knew...I am completely hooked on this place. The associate located their buyer, he went so far as doing online research to help me. I left with a wonderful selection of wine. They also have an amazing salad bar, stocked with hot and cold foods. I was able to find a variety of items that fit my taste and diet. I will be back!
Now this is an A+ grocery store. Living right across from the Treasure Island, I have no need to shop elsewhere, yet I enjoy the walk down Wells to Plum Market since they have an amazing deli, prepared food and bakery department. Ive stopped in to get sandwiches and salads as grab and go and have never been disappointed with what I picked.
One of my favorite markets, I go there weekly. Its like Whole Foods but less big box. Its a Michigan based store. They get breads and desserts from Zingermans (famous deli in Ann Arbor) daily. If you havent had Zingermans its amazing. They have a very good rewards program where they send you coupons weekly. Plum Market is as expensive as Whole Foods but not so bad with the coupons. Its a lot more friendly.
Brand new opened this year and only one in Chicago area. Its similar to Marianos but on a smaller scale and bit more pricier. But definitely worth checking out. They carry awesome items especially local farm fresh products and organic. The unique thing about this shop it has a great cafe offering intelligentsia coffee and frozen yogurt. Including a wine bar for some drinks. The Plum Market has a huge selections of wines. Check out the special cheese selections, too. And cannot forget the dessert, there is a fancy chocolate truffle shop!Four star only due to bit overpriced items.
Engaged associates; wish I could get rewards on Android.I have had great service at Plum Market in Old Town. Keenan, in grocery, went above and beyond in answering my questions. I called Whole foods, and they put no effort in to seeing if their was an equivalent for an obscure item—Keenan went back twice to check other alternatives.Today, I had a young woman who was very careful to pack the croissant so that it would stay fresh, and my check out person and i had a nice chat about the rewards program. BUT, it is only accessed through iOs—sad! But, it is worth going to just have great Staff and service.
Hipster-mart USA! This place is great for those times when youre sitting around your house just dying to pay outrageous prices for all the same stuff you can get at numerous other venues across the city for substantially cheaper. Complete with a Gluten-Free bakery section and all the meatless meat a Vegan could wish for, this place will have you spending upwards of $80 on beard care equipment in no time.
Wow! I just moved to Old Town. LOVE THIS PLACE!! Delicious preprepared foods and groceries. Big place. Street Parking. Great location. Highly recommended! They had spanikopita (spinach pie) that was out of this world but they just discontinued it. So disappointing!! But this place is fantastic!!
Been coming here for over a year, only because its close to home, but lately, its been a huge disappointment. Getting fresh fruits or veggies is a lottery. Packaged chicken breasts had a foul smell after we opened it the same day. Expensive Honeycrisp apples were mushy and tasteless. We ended up throwing out more food than consuming. Hot bar has a very small selection (half of it is usually closed) and not only its the same stuff every single day, much of it is dried up from sitting under the heat for hours. On top of all that, prices on many items are significantly marked up over Whole Foods. Forgot an ingredient or want to get a quick bite to eat? You will get raped on parking fees unless you spend $20.
This place used to be a fav but the other day I went to get fresh lobster, which they stopped offering at some point, so I grabbed a couple other things and checked out. The lady gave me really hard time about validating my parking because I didnt spend $20...relax, I had the intentions of spending way more than $20. Ill be sure to never come here again if Im unsure if they will have exactly what I need.
I really like this new Michigan-import and I especially like the neighborhood it lives in. You would think that neigborhood has everything; but its a ctually a bit of an island so this is a great addition. Their prepared foods are really beautifully displayed and samples are encouraged. I of course go for the salad bar and end with everything but salad -- its super good! Nice supply of organics too.
The reward program at Plum means that I consistently enjoy 10% savings on every purchase, and Angelic Lugo is amazing--after fighting unsuccessfully with Whole Foods to carry basic staples that were widely available at Whole Foods and other stores in California, Angelic was the only manager at any health food store in Chicago to step up to the plate and begin carrying vanilla goat yogurt. Plum is the only place in town that sells goat butter, though they carry an import brand rather than one of the many domestic, organic options. Angelic also custom orders bison roasts and bison steaks just for me. She is great with customer service and responds to emails with a phone call. With all this said, Plum has many of the same problems that I see at Whole Foods--they are often under stocked and run out of items that I need, and buyers do not preference organic and the most eco-friendly, local options. Veggies readily available from organic farms are purchased through conventional suppliers, and I often find that only 3/4 of what I need is available as an organic brand. You can find items on the shelves that contain corn syrup at both stores and sugar is over-used in house made items when alternative sweeteners are plentiful on the shelves, and though Plum is a little better about displaying food ingredients, their buffet and salad bar are not consistently transparent. Overall Plum is a better option than Whole Foods, but I hope they will continue to grow.
It took awhile to write this review..but I was just hoping things would improve at this store.I went there this morning for breakfast and coffee...let me tell you...they are proud of their food as it is extremely expensive to shop there...that being said..with the money they make you think they could afford to have more than one cashier available to serve you..in this very busy morning ...granted there was a snow storm ..only one cashier was there to bill customers...no manager even helping..this young lady was at the express counter..and she did a phenomenal job..good for her..she deserves a raise for how well and efficient she was..but my complaint is directed at Corp..many times over this store is busy and only one cashier with no manager in sight does all the checking out of customers causing a traffic jam at the counters...with their coffee at $5 a cup..a small cup..they can afford payroll to bill out customers faster and more efficiently. Go here for emergencies not on a regular basis..unless you have time to kill waiting to be checked and money to burn for food that is much less expensive in the inner city...Yes its the Gold Coast..and Corp knows it..so they take your money and time thinking we all are Rockefellers...as to that girl at the express counter this morning 1/19/19 7:30 a.m Saturday..she shamed all of you at Corp for doing a job obviously management felt to inferior to do themselves.
I guess I don’t fit in the demographic of what is considered friendly customers. I grabbed a bottle of scotch and was trying to do the rest of my grocery shopping and one of the staff just followed me throughout he whole store. Would have been nice if he were to offer to hold my bag by the way he was following me but he just followed me down every aisle until I finished checking out and literally left the store. I figured maybe the neighborhood of Old Town had their share of shoplifters so I didn’t really think anything of it, but as I was getting checked out the cashier had to take an alarm off the bottle of scotch I had in my grocery bag so maybe the guy just didn’t like my face. I was wearing a bright orange hunter’s beanie and a tan Carhartt jacket, sweat pants, and Ugg boots, I guess that just screamed unsavory character. I ended up returning the bottle and went next door and bought one from them instead. If you want to follow me while I pick up soda water and milk by all means go ahead and follow me, but offer to carry my bag or something for me while you are obviously tailing me; after all, I am still a customer, or at least I was. Maybe for future reference just put up a sign and tell me I’m not welcome. That would save both our time. I’d gladly walk over somewhere that I’m welcome.
Went for a wander around the Old Town as we heard it was where the locals hang out. We quickly came across Plum Market. As fans of Whole Foods, this was a good contender.THe prices are very reasonable and the selection of organic foods and not mass produced food if great. If only I could bring the whole shop home with me to the UK I would; just have to move to Chi-Town!MJ
I dont go here for my typical weekly grocery shopping since it is a little bit out of the price Id like to spend for groceries and out of the way from where I currently live, but its the wine and beer selections that bring me back as well as the food items including the coffee that I cant get anywhere else. The free parking definitely is a plus now that I live further away and no longer have that convenience of walking to the store.
I live in Gold Coast and attempted to speak with a manager to place order for an upcoming philanthropic event and was completely blown off. Left a message on Tuesday with no response and another call on Wednesday, was put on hold multiple times, had to hang up call back and was then told to call back the next day.Sorry, Ill be taking my business elsewhere...frustrating to see this in the competitive food industry.
It reminds me of brooklyn fair in brooklyn NY. gourmet, high end stuff at higher price.love their meat section, wine bar, bakery,,etc. If you sign up for their wine tasting event, you will receive an email whenever they have wine tasting event. it is not bad at all.bakery is pretty. Tried few cakes from there. not bad.also, if you sign up for their reward point, you can use it like cash if you add up your points.
I absolutely LOVE Plum Market! A Michigan company it finally opened in Chicago - its like Whole Foods meets Jewel...you can get all your specialty groceries (including Zingermans Bakehouse products) plus regular stuff like Coca-Cola! Best grocery store every and their Swirlberry frozen yogurt is AMAZING!
Hey! Welcome to Chicago! The Ann Arbor legend makes it to the big time, and it brought Zingermans baked goods, a wine bar and a sweet Intelligentsia with it! Not bad! While you would be forgiven for confusing Plum Market with Whole Foods, Im happy to see Plum Market. Give yourself plenty of time to explore because theyre packed with stuff, and if the weather is still nice out take your coffee and salad bar meal outside. Youll see a load of dogs and Old Town characters prance by which is always entertaining.
Incredible selection they have brands that are even from the West Coast that are very difficult to get anywhere on this side ...when I walked in I noticed there were like 20 bottles of open wine and a gorgeous layout of exotic cheeses breads vegetables and meats the lady theyre informed me that they have a free wine tasting with hors doeuvres every Thursday no purchase necessary I will definitely be returning
Do you have money burning a hole in your pocket? Is it your dream to tell your friends that the catsup at your party is artisanal? Do you think of Whole Foods as cheap? Is walking 800 ft further to Jewel Osco to do your grocery shopping completely out of the question? Then, this is the market for you!

2022-05-03Im really going to miss this grocery store so much! The people who work here are sincerely some of the sweetest-- always helpful and have a passion for helping their customers.I love their body care section and they used to carry Mrs. Sees candies from California and Seattle, Washington. I used to love purchasing Sees candies and lollys.Anyway they will be closing soon so make sure you visit this friendly and unique grocery store more often before they leave. If the owner happens to read this review I know that whole foods left their location on Huron in River North and it would be outstanding 👏 if you chose that empty building so Chicagoans could continue to shop here --- just a suggestion 😉I love the fact that you can always find unique items here like this hair towel by Kitsch...honestly this is a boutique shopping experience so visit Plum Market before they close their doors 🚪

2022-03-19I used to love shopping at this store. Its more expensive then other stores in a area, but it used to be worth it because of the service, fresh items and very well organized shelves. Today I just saw employees on their phones, laughing together, not really welcoming anyone to the store, one employee almost fall down on me when another girl pulled him from the ladder as he was arranging the shelves. Cashier seemed pretty upset that I went to check out with her and not to a self-check-out line. She pointed out that I should put my basket away at some other place rather then placing it near the counter, even though there were already like 10 other baskets there.I’ll probably still come back as I live close by, but I hope they can train their employees better and set some service expectations. It’s a challenging time to hire people, but if you are charging $10 for a pint of strawberries service has to match.

2022-04-19They are incredibly over priced, yet pay their employees minimum wage. All our money is going directly to corporate despicable place I won’t be shopping here any longer.

2022-04-20Don’t waste money here! Used to shop at sister location in Ann Arbor so continued to frequent this location in Chicago. Was in here buying groceries including eggs. When the bagger was packing my groceries she placed some heavy items on top of a carton of eggs and we heard them crack. I asked her to check since I didn’t want to purchase damaged goods and she took them out with eye roll. Three of the eggs were broken and she refused to replace them and said if I wanted fresh eggs I should run to the back myself. Her tone and attitude was so poor I asked to speak to the manager. The manager was worse! He stated I must have broken them myself and was trying to blame the worker. Then he THREW a coffee token for their coffee shop, on the counter and said I probably just wanted a free coffee. He then turned away and laughed saying a racial slur. Needless to say I left here without purchasing the eggs and have reached out to the head quarter. No word yet but I regret spending thousands of dollars here over the years.

2021-11-22I miss this place so much. I used to come here all the time when I lived in Chicago. The nicest people in the world work here. They are so kind and friendly and go out of their way to help you. I miss them all so much. Shelves are well stocked, meat and fish is always fresh and tasty. Great produce too. And excellent vitamin section!

2020-03-09Plum is my neighborhood market and I’m grateful for it! The app provides amazing coupons. I buy my organic staples, cheeses, and favorite pantry items there. I also love visiting to just walk around and explore new foods I haven’t tried before. I rely on their great selection of natural beauty and supplements.
