Pacemaker Foods in other cities:
I always like to support local places and try to stay away from big names, but this place seems to never quite get to a good point. They used to have people that worked there you would see often enough to have small conversations with, but they have high turn over. They also have less and less reliable produce. When you purchase produce you would like it to last a few days prior to using it, but most of their produce is already wrinkled or gone soft and starting to rot.
Friendly, fast, service with a smile. Anyone who would like to donate to that unfortunate family that lost the life of their daughter in the house fire in the 100 block of 2nd Street can do so here. I understand the girl worked here and they are taking up a collection to help the family with unexpected funeral expenses. So sad . She was barely starting her life!
Knowing this place as Pacemaker and seeing the change to Countryside I have personally seen so much change. There are still a few employees that in my opinion are dead weight but all the changes I have seen are for the better. Whoever the new owners are, are doing something right. There are no bad teams only bad leaders and once the dead weight are held accountable for their actions then the place will be on the road to success. The excellent deals that are passed down to us customers is by far my favorite thing they have done. I also see that the prices are coming down to a more reasonable number. Only issue I have seen is the younger cashiers need to put their phones away as soon as the customer approaches and greet us so we aren’t standing there awkwardly waiting for a greeting. All in all great job getting this place in line as the previous owners in my opinion were sub par and only in it for the money. Employee moral is so very important. P.S. The meat guy in store today has an amazing personality!!!!
Lots of employees standing around by the front counter, glaring at customers (including management). One register open with a line, when Im next up at the register, they act like im not even there. Then start to clean the register...after some time, I finally figured out they were closing the register. Not one time did the two standing there mention that this register is now closed. Instead I just get ignored. Guess its time to look away from shopping local and go back to the big stores.....
Small local grocery that I dont frequent. Its ok to run in for something but I wouldnt shop there full time -too expensive. A lot of the small grocers compete by having something unique - like great produce with a great unique organic section. That is not the case in this store. Average shopping experience.
They move the isles around way to much can never remember were to look confusing gotta add to this post as of 1/28/22 look at the receipts everyone on top of sales tax the owners decided to charge you a extra 2% tax on ur goods hmm taking advantage of Covid they are prices already way to high and now this place robs you even more
Im rewriting my review from 3 years ago, and taking away 2 stars! I put a phone order into their deli, as many know their broasted chicken is fantastic! They did not have my order.. Everyone thought everyone else did it. No big deal, I waited another 25 min. I found some really great parfait desserts while I waited! When I got home, the gravy for the potatoes smelled rancid immediately upon opening! So there went dinner.. No gravy for potatoes or chicken, and if Im being served rancid gravy, what else is past the date? About $30 and an hour of my time down the drain.. So we skipped to dessert. EVERY SINGLE PARFAIT tasted immediately like frozen chemicals! These were I believe $4 each, so apparently they were putting old nasty ingredients together to sell them off.. Dont know, just a guess. IF I EVER go there again Ill not go near the deli, buy will be wary of what I purchase. They do still have very friendly staff. But friendly people selling nasty food isnt a trade-off I accept.
Not my favorite grocery store to shop, but it is convenient at times. I was in there last week to pick up some items and I was not impressed by their produce department. I used to work in another grocery stores produce department, and some of the items I saw did not look fresh and did not pass muster with me.Their meat department is okay. Ive occasionally bought steak, pork, and chicken there and have always been satisfied. The deli department is good with a variety of meats and salads. As for their bakery, Ive bought a few of their cakes over the years and have always been happy with them.I do not like their dairy department. Not alot of product to choose from especially in their yogurt section.Beer and alcohol selection is excellent and it looks like they recently remodeled and added a bar on the west side of the store. To me, some prices seem higher than other stores I shop at. However, they do have a couple ailes where they sell generic brands of many products that are considerably cheaper than the store or name brand items. The employees Ive had contact with are friendly, and I always look forward to being greeted by Loren when I come into the store.
This store is a gem. It was very clean. The meat and deli sections provided many selections. Items were competitively priced, especially sale items. I bought a 24 case of water for $1.99! The staff was friendly and helpful. I was not expecting such a nice store. The outside of the store in no way was representative of how nice the inside is.
Worked there for over 10 years. Think Ive seen it all..freezer down and ice cream thawed? Throw it in the big freezer and put it back on the shelf. Expired meat items? Take it to the deli or give it to backstop bar to cook up. Buying expired frozen meat and mis labeling of meat items intentionally? Yeah they do that..freeze beef pork and chicken then thaw it and sell it as fresh? ..check! You want a dead end job with no insurance, pension or incentives? Do you like being talked down to and be given back handed compliments on a daily basis? Ask for mark the store manager..or maybe you like to be yelled or screamed at on the sales floor in front of customers? Bobs got you covered.....not a disgruntled ex employee here, just setting the record straight ...I was a union member and had some protection, we ended up getting a union lawyer and the Illinois labor board has gotten involved as well....they try to tell people I was fired for being a racist when anyone who knows me knows I am not...I gave them my two week notice because I had found a better job with a company who knows what they are doing, just wish I had gotten out much sooner.
This store was an unexpected delight. I got A+ service and the meat department was excellent. The prices are better than most stores of equal size, which will ensure future trips to Pacemaker. And on a side note they have several isles that are bursting with Dollar deals. I brought home way more than i should have, from the dollar spices to grilling accesories.Again, with Super friendly, knowledgeable staff and Killer deals, you need to head over to there.P.s. The steaks I bought to cook on the grill were super, I mean super reasonable priced and tasted so freaking good. (Great marbling, just enough fat to keep it moist, and flavor that was comparable to a steak prices 3x more than this one cost!!!!)
Horrible horrible place!!!!!! So right now we are ALL supposed to be wearing masks while going anywhere in public. Go into this store grabbed my couple items headed towards the register and notice 2 employees not wearing masks. I get to the register and the cashier decided to put hers over her nose. Asked her if they are enforcing the mask policy and she said not really. I thought she misunderstood me since we are supposed to have them on but when I asked again she said no they don’t enforce it. Needless to say I walked out while she was ringing my stuff up. Masks are not just to protect you but also to protect everyone else. This store gets a lot of older people in it and that’s who we should be helping protect. I will NEVER EVER give them another cent of my hard earned money
Not a bad place for a mom n pop owned store. Obviously not as large as some stores, so less selection overall, but still plenty of stock to choose from. Prices are higher than at Wal*Mart, but the satisfaction of supporting your local businessman makes up for it. Plus theyve been around for decades now. Thats a good long relationship with a grocery and their community. They offer a BMO Harris Bank directly inside the store itself, so easy access to banking is as simple as going into the grocery store.
I have no clue where any of these 4 and 5 star reviews come from. This store is horrible with high prices and mangers/owners are idiots. Mark (Black) thinks he has the upper hand over the whites and tries to talk down to them and thinks he is “the” boss. I used to know people at the Durand store where he was from and he got caught stealing! He’s such a waste of oxygen.
Pacemakers great if you dont mind buying frozen undated or out of date frozen meat at reduced prices. Even frozen meat with Walmarts logo. You can buy quality generic food and save yourself from shopping the local dollar stores. Thats if you dont mind spending more than a dollar for a dollar item. You can also save $8 buying 8 sale items, thats if the item is stocked. Warning dont fall into that trap. They put a Disclaimer in their ad. The meat pictures in their Ad do not match the product sold. The Employees and Management blame the owners, too bad. Pacemaker once was a great store. The Dalpras are great people. Unfortunately their former customers are shopping elsewhere and with good reason. I hope they can turn the store around. They could start by keeping their customer bathroom clean and stocked. The banks clean bathroom is a close by alternative. Unfortunately the negative out weighs the positive in the shopping experience at Pacemaker.
The store is disgusting, including the owners. I used to work at the poplar grove location and they were horrible. By far the worst job Ive ever had. Owners are cheap and rude. I worked at their deli and they would rather serve the customers rotten deli meat than lose money throwing away the product. Disgusting.
I want to pick up a few things to get in and get out no wait usually only one or two people in line before you I needed one thing that they did not have and the manager of the store will have it by Monday I thought that was pretty good they really try to please you and theyre very friendly

2022-06-17Going downhill fast. Shelves empty in several aisles, deli crew in back room and when someone rang the bell for help hollered be right there. Both that person and I waited 5 min and walked away.Lotto machine out of order for cash. 3 people behind the service desk yet no help in the deli. I could go on.Have shopped here for the past 25 years and am going to switch now. Schnucks rivals prices and their shelves are not empty Their employees are always there, courteous and helpful.

2022-01-30The prices are way too high. Their produce is always going bad. Their hot deli food never looks desirable. And this evening, when I went in to order their broasted chicken, the girl behind the counter made me feel like i was inconveniencing her by asking her too do her job. Most of the staff there have great customer service skills. However, this evening I was highly disappointed by the fact that she acted as if to do her job was an inconvenience to her life. I will not purchase anything from the deli again if I see her behind the counter. Well, I was not able to purchase what I came into the store to buy from the deli, so...

2022-02-21The fried chicken is really good, a bit greasy, and they always have items and deals that other stores dont have. Plus, they are open on holidays when no one else is js.

2022-03-28Tremendously overpriced to take advantage of senior citizens, lots of short dated items, watched owner- manager touch meat slicer with bare hands and pick piece of food off and eat and the deli employee used to cut costumers food.. employees young ,rude, unprofessional.

2022-01-01We decided to order the Prime Rib dinner this year instead of our yearly tradition of goin out to dinner. Best decision we made, the food was awesome, well worth the $99 that is for sure. We got to pick up and it was packed in a box that was taped, everything was in the box. All i had to do was warm up in the oven and dinner was ready!!! Will definitley do this again. If the ham and turkey anything like the prime rib, then will try one of them next time!! Everything was great!

2021-11-06I havent been here in a long time and I wont be returning unless I absolutely need to. Prices are outrageous and their selection was not at all what it used to be. Their stockers are very impolite and dont care whether they get in your way or not. No excuse me or nothing. Not a good experience at all. I remember when this place was called Pacemaker. The prices were a bit higher than everyone else but the selection was a lot better. The prices have went up but the value and customer service dropped. Sorry to see this place so poorly managed and the people so poorly trained.

2021-12-15This place has high prices, expired food, empty shelves, lack of common products, generic brands that are so generic that its not suitable for human consumption, and always only one check out line with no bagger. Plus this place doesnt enforce wearing masks. Shop at your own risk here.

2021-07-11Countryside has good meat and some very good specials. Their deli also has good chicken with lots of side dishes. A smaller store that works to give good service and products to the customers.
