Everyone was so kind and caring. My Lacie absolutely was relaxed and comfortable and her Dr. treated her like she was important and talked to her while examining her. Plus they didnt just guess they actually took the time to figure out what was wrong and shes almost healed up in less than a month. Over here other vet who kept guessing.
The facility is clean, family oriented, highly professional, and accurate with results with any questions you may have, the people that work at this facility care about your animals as if it were their own, as well as full of information. If you have a pet I highly recommend you to take them to oak lawn animal hospital, you will walk out confident and secure that your pet is well taken care of.
Today I had to do one of the hardest things that face pet parents, making the decision to depart from your family. My friend Beans was sick...as a new client you dont know what to expect, what I experienced was beyond my expectations from a new vet dealing with a new client. The Doctor was kind, compassionate and showed loved toward my friend, my family, and that meant everything to me. Saying goodbye is never easy, but having to say goodbye surrounded by a staff that cares, well youve earned my buisness and respect. I can whole heatedly recommend this vet for your family members. They care.
I brought my cat here 3 times and got no answers as to what was wrong with him. I was told to go to an expensive specialist.I went to another normal vet for a second opinion. Within 5 minutes, they found a huge lump in my cats stomach. How this was not detected at this vet is BEYOND me. If you have a sick cat, I recommend going elsewhere. It makes me sick to think how much time I’ve wasted not knowing my cat has this lump. Very very unfortunate and absolutely frustrating.
My dog died in March. It’s taken me a while to process it and post this review. That morning she fainted and had a hard time breathing. I immediately brought her here for help. They looked at her and said oh she can wait she looks fine. There’s many people ahead of her. I decided to drive 35 minutes to the nearest emergency vet to find out her heart was swollen and her lungs filled with fluid. She died an hour later. I would like to say that I can’t believe they took the dog who had a grooming appointment over my dog. Why is it even called an animal hospital? I am still extremely hurt and angry about it to this day. Please don’t take your pet here if you think it’s an emergency.
Today was my first visit at this veterinarian with my dogs. Great veterinarian office it is a first-come first-serve service, very well established for over 40 years call when you get there to let them know youre in the parking lot with this covet virus they will take your name and number and call you back as soon as its your turn. I dont think I waited 20 minutes today to get my dogs in for vaccinations. Prices are very reasonable staff is very pleasant and accommodating. Five stars for me
I Love this place and I wouldnt take my dog anywhere else. The staff is very caring and I appreciate their patience. Im one of those worry-like crazy dog moms and Im constantly calling them and they have been nothing but patient with me. The Vet is wonderful and I am glad I found a great team for my furbabys needs.
This is our normal vet, or should I say WAS our normal vet. Our dog has cancer and we arent sure how much longer well have with him so when we noticed he was having issues walking in a straight line without his legs giving out or him tipping over into the cabinets etc. We immediately became concerned that it was something serious and we needed to bring him in. We arrived to be told by the not so friendly staff member that answered the phone that yes, although they are normally walk-in even during COVID theyd decided that day they were done taking walk-ins for right now and call back in a few hours and maybe they would have decided to start taking appointments again maybe. We tried explaining our concern with our dog (what if he didnt have a few hours?!) and still got the same answer yeah..sorry...call in a few hours and maybe. We couldnt risk it for a maybe so ended up calling a few other vet clinics ALL of which were very helpful and provided the names of other clinics in the area that might have openings/taking walk-ins when they currently didnt. Thanks to one of these other clinics not just telling us no but also offering alternatives we were able to find a place that was taking walk-ins and were able to get our dog in and checked out. Thankfully it wasnt a neurological issue he was having but goodness knows what couldve happened had we waited and called this place back on a hope that maybe they decided to start seeing patients again that day. This experience made us decide that although weve been bringing our pets here for years this would be the last time we would.
The staff & Dr. took care of my cat Daisy so well. I was so worried about her. They were so caring and compassionate!! I would definitely recommend! & the cost was affordable as well! She became sick with respiratory infection a few days after coming home from surgery at another facility & but couldnt get her in where she had had the surgery.
These folks are the most friendly and caring vets I have ever met. I have taken all of my animals here over the years and I have no complaints. They are honest and so very fair. They just saved my cat Stretch from certain death due to a blocked urine track. Thank you Oak Lawn AH !!!
Both doctors are great! Dr. Kenneth Gretschmann is seriously the kindest vet I’ve ever met. I’ve never had a vet that takes so much time petting and talking to my cats. My cats loved all the attention, and they didn’t even realize they were getting a physical exam! I once walked in minutes before closing with 4 very sick foster kittens, and Dr. Kenneth Gretchmann still saw me right away. Prices are reasonable, the wait time has never been more than 5-10 min (I go on weekdays mostly), and the vet techs are very nice! I’m so glad I found this animal clinic!
We love the staff and reasonable prices... The nurses are wonderful and good at teaching/explaining of what we may not know. Doctors with awesome care and advice for our pets. Last but not least they work reasonable hours of day as Im a caregiver and my shifts run diferrent times so its perfect.
Just took my dog Milo there. Its a walk in clinic and vet - you dont need an appointment unless its for grooming purposes which I thought was weird at first but it actually gave me a lot of flexibility as I work a lot and it just made it easy to walk in and not have to reschedule.Milo also pooped on the ground and they cleaned it up right away.Got his shots and it was a quick process. The place is very clean and prices were very fair. Ill be bringing him back!
I have brought my pug Mia here 4 times for nail clippings, and she’s a hard one to get to settle down, so I asked them to take her in the back. Ask them to do that if you’re not comfortable holding your dog.Dog is near end of life and I’m caring for her needs until she passes, little things here and there, and they’ve been there everyday I’ve called, even during coronavirus - they treated her with time and care, giving her only what she needed though. Now she’s in severe pain and going back for tramadol. They will give her meds because they will see she can’t use her right leg.they do t. Was around with pain.Sincerely,Megan
The nicest vet ive ever met. He genuinely cares for your animal. Hes called me to check on my cat cuz he was worried about him. His techs are very sweet and knowledgeable, and he just goes above and beyond normal protocol to make sure you and your pet are happy and healthy. I recommend to everyone. ❤
This place is a complete joke. Went in with my dog that seemed to be having a seizure. By the time we got to the vet, our dog seemed better....we wanted to be sure everything was fine before going home...We were there for about 45 minutes and received absolutely no answers. The vet took a blood test, reviewed the test results with us and basically said “I don’t know...you will need to see a specialist.” We actually had to point out that the dogs sugar was elevated...the vet said oh...it is...$175 and 45 minutes later...no answers...nothing! I ended up just going to my regular vet (which is 20 minutes away) that same day and for $110 my dog got medicine, IV fluids, scans of the belly, blood work and a free follow up visit two weeks later. I live in oak lawn and it would have been nice to give the local vet the business..NOPE! Thanks for stealing $175 from me...we will never be back! Thank you!
They treated my pitbull terribly just for his breed. He was scared and nervous but by my side. They literally saw him and said if he bites they’ll call the police. How unprofessional and my dog never bites he was just nervous and whimpering afraid to be there. He could probably feel the toxic energy here since he is shears excited to see his vet at VCA. I wouldn’t recommend my worst enemy to go here. Plus it looks like an old 80s store instead of a vets office. Learn some sympathy and stop being prejudice or you’ll have all your patients leave
Dr. Gretschmann saw my cat, ran expensive tests, immediately wanted to transfer her to another speciality hospital knowing full well how expensive it would to keep her there ($1500) for some fluids. Overall, did not explain any other options or what could be done to help her to be comfortable in the meantime. Dissatified with the level of professionalism and felt as though she was being lazy. Might be a good place for annual check up but not an emergency if they are just going to send you away after robbing you.Update: (Tried to keep it short) Ended up going to another vet who was actually able to explain to us it was time to keep my cat as comfortable as possible and realize even with more tests she was most likely not going to make it due to a mass messing with her stomach etc etc. This was heartbreaking and unfortunately she did not make it and passed away. I wish we would of went to this vet from the start as sad as it was to hear she wasnt going to make it at least we did not spend $2000+ to find that out.
Love this place! I am new to oak lawn. I used to go to a first come first serve clinic up north and it took forever. But here it was super speedy to get in and I was in and out in 20 minutes. The staff is very friendly and efficient. Prices are probably the lowest in the area as well 👍🏼
They almost killed our dog!! Worst experience ever!!!! We went for her annual shots and a teeth cleaning. They did the both in a relatively short period of time. This sent our dogs system into shock which caused a platlet drop and almost killed her. With our dog being older and diabetic “according to our new vet” they should have known better. Then instead of handling the problem “they created” we were sent to an urgent care center that cost over $1500. They put our dog on prednisone to help her and said we should check back witth our vet. When we brought her back not only did they charge us for a visit but they told us they didn’t want to handle it and to take her to a specialist. We ended up not going that route because we found another very reputable vet who had no problem weening her off the prednisone and getting her back to good health and was also affordable. NEVER AGAIN would I entrust the care of my pet to these vets!!!!!! Beware!!!!!
Absolutely terrible place. When my boy was a puppy, he developed a lump on his neck and the vet said it was puppy strangles even though his breed doesn’t get that. His lump got bigger, he went limp, stopped eating and drinking, and was dying. I took him back and they literally had no idea what to do. Absolute idiots. I took him to a different hospital and they said it was a tumor and they did emergency surgery right away to remove it. If I would have listened to this vet here, my dog would’ve been dead. I never went back and hope no one else goes back. I’ve noticed other one star reviews are from people whose last names are Hispanic and have mastiffs and Bully breeds. Coincidence on how our animals are treated? I think not. I should sue for having my dog misdiagnosed and almost killed by this no knowledge so called “veterinarian”
Reception lady/ tech was extremely rude, for no reason at all was unfriendly with an attitude, i think she was the vets wife and just wants money. Vet walked in the room & didnt make eye contact or introduce himself, they made snide comments about my dogs ears being cropped, and tried saying he had a shock collar. I dont care what your personal views are, act professional!!She asked what shots my dog had and I said he is up to date on everything except rabies and she said well ill see about that! in a condescending and almost threatening way.I gave the okay to give a rabies shot and she said We did it already! I said I was standing right there how could i have not seen you do it? she says, we are that fast and I hadnt given them permission yet!!She also was very pushy about heartworm medicine to the point that she practically gave it to my dog without asking me first!Place was dirty, supposed to be sterile like a doctors office but looked like a dusty knick -knack store. My dog is very spoiled and loved and he deserves better than this place! Ive never seen a place not even be loving to animals! I still cant believe it!They will let their attitudes get in the way of the care of the animal and the animal will suffer.
For decades all of my dogs have been cared for by Dr Bowen. You will not find a better veterinarian. Dr Bowen is a skilled surgeon and diagnostician. It is not easy to find veterinarians who are surgeons but with Dr Bowen you have both an excellent doctor and surgeon. He communicates well with the pet owner and his staff is also caring and I knowledgeable. I would never let anyone else care for my dogs. You can completely trust his care for your pets.
They are the most companionate Dr.s ever! They are caring and do whats best for your pet! As I write this, my own dog will be put down tomorrow. My heart is broken, but I know he will pass peacefully with family around him. I want to thank the staff in advance,, for you have taken care of our pets for twenty years! Again, you all do a great job, and have been happy with the Gretcham Dr.s that so compassionately have cared for all of our pets!
Had to put my dog down 7 days ago but didnt like the fact the female vet blamed me for him being sick for a week called and everyone was booked she looked at me likes its your fault hes sick you shoud have got him here soon i told her ive been calling she just rolled her eyes at me
Such a wonderful, caring and compassionate veterinarian group. Last year around this time our 23 year old shitzu, April’s eye completely deteriorated and I brought her in with the intentions of putting her down as I felt she was too old for surgery to remove her eye. I contemplated my decision and asked the doctor what to do. She was still so full of life! He really thought about my decision and told me if she was hers, he’d try the surgery. He himself could see she was still very curious as she sniffed her way around the office and peed on his floor lol. So, we decided on surgery and she did great. During the next few months she slowly started deteriorating, losing all of her senses and I knew it was time to say goodbye. After all, we received a blessing of a few great months to spoil her terribly. We brought April in and said I final goodbyes. She had just turned 24 1/2 years old. She left peacefully. Today, a few months after her death I received a letter from University of Illinois at Urbanna/champaign College of Veterinarian Medicine stating that Oak Lawn Animal Hospital made a monetary donation on April’s behalf. This touched our hearts. Thank you all for your thoughtfulness! Our community is lucky to have you!
I called yesterday they told me I could go in today they open at 9am as a walk in. I went and got turned away, I have a Dogo Argentino 8 month old that’s having a reaction and got worse and woke up with fever. They said they don’t look at any sort of mastiff I wish they would of told me when I called so I could of found another place to go.
Service is good when you go in person but expect them not to answer the phone 15min before closing time. Ive called on 2 separate occasions when its about 10-15 min before they close and theyve already turned on the answering service or just dont pick up. I dont consider that good service.

2022-04-13Best vets ever! They truly care about animals and everyone in the office is so kind! They dont accept appointments so you do have to wait, but its well worth it for the quality of service and care. And, their prices are the best! They dont rush you for an x-ray and thousand dollar procedures like some other places weve gone. Always the best care for our pup at a great price.

2022-06-21I wish I could give this place a million stars. DVM Kenneth G is the sweetest and most caring person I’ve ever met. Visibly cares for your pets and never about the money. Very affordable clinic and quick at that too! Even after moving 40 minutes away this will forever be the only place I take my furry friends❤️

2021-07-13Very good business! It was my first time going to this vet for my new puppy. She was having some minor issue with her fecal matter.I arrived at 8:35 and signed a clip board. FYI for new customers, you have to arrive before 9:00 AM and check in. For sickness, if you are desperately need to be seen, preferably check in at 8:00 because there was already 9 people ahead of me at 8:35.This place is mainly walk-in/first come first serve. If you have a dire emergency, it would be better off to see an ER. They stop taking clients 1/2 an hour before closing.Overall experience was great! We left at 12:00PM with an affordable bill and lots of helpful information. Staff was very accommodating to additional services such as nail and sanitary trims.

2022-07-21I found it to be dirty in the rooms. They dont clean the tables after each animal
