The only reason I gave this 2 stars is because my husband left alive. No discharge instructions. No follow up appointments, or even names of doctors to contact. He left with stitches and never told when or who would remove them. If I wasnt there every minute, taking notes, speaking to doctors on his behalf, and Googling, he would have left the hospital needing a kidney transplant with NO information about what was next.
I dont know whats happening with the Healthcare system here in Illinois, but they need to get it together, because this is RIDICULOUS. On several occasions when my mom would call her doctor, they consistently told her to go to the ER & Urgent Care. So when she would come here, they repeatedly told her that there was nothing they could do for her (mind you they never did extensive test to know this), and to call her doctor (the one who basically refuses to see her). Everytime weve come here theyve always been helpful and caring, but lately I dont know whats going on. Im not sure if people just dont care anymore, or what, but someone needs to figure this out, because based on similar reviews, people are suffering due to this hospital, and our primary care offices lacking the urgency and efficiency to help/see their patients.
Was treated very well in the ER, but my follow up instructions were vague and I was told I would be contacted by someone for next steps. However, no one called me. I called the number I was told to and they told me I had to call the physician that ordered my treatment. When I called the ER, the lady who answered was incredibly rude and told me that I needed to Just Google what Im supposed to do next.Let me ask you a question. Does Just Google it sound like good medical advise?
This is the worst possible hospital you could ever go to. the wait is absolutely horrible, the staff is so unprofessional, rude and lack compassion for patients. I went to the ER at this hospital, yet they treat it like a regular doctors visit. They move at a snails pace and disregard patients basically crawling all over the floor asking for help, they just look the other way and act as if they are not there. I kept getting told the nurse was busy, yet I heard staff members speaking about a woman name “Lori” in CT and how she is the devil. I am at a loss for words with this place. This was the closest hospital to my home and unless I am dying and cannot use my words, I will NEVER return to this hospital.
Ive been to this hospital a couple of times. The doctors are condescending and the nurses are miserable with the nastiest attitude. They go out of their way to make you feel worse when you are in desperate need of care and compassion-and they just dont care. My family and friends have had such trouble at this hospital and theyve been told by staff there to just go to another hospital because they lack the resources/staff for those particular needs. IF YOU FIND YOURSELF HEADED FOR THIS HOSIPITAL TURN BACK AND RUN FOR THE HILLS!!!
I went here on a emergency for a apendicitis everyone was really nice !I couldnt remember the white blonde hair lady that was helping me but she was the nicest . She kept saying its okay hunny, cause I was scared . And kept talking to me sweet then she had to say goodbye cause he shift finished and another lady came which was also very friendly . The only thing I didnt like was the doctor who did my surgery . He kept making me really nervous since it was my first surgery .
Worse place ever! Stay away from this hospital!!! Read the other reviews it’s not just me. I was in pain for few days it didn’t went away so I went to the ER the doctor was extremely rude and unprofessional yelling that he is not an expert and he can’t do anything I got so mad that I just let the place! I wish I remembered the doctors name . unprofessional and rude . He made me feel bad for making him doing his job!
Visited on March 16th for an emergency. Luckily not a big amount of patients needed to be seen and I was able to be in and out not too long. Staff was nice and clear with information. Thank you very much to the NCH staff for seeing me that day and helping me feel better :)
So many people have warned me about coming here and everytime I do, they are just not professional or compassionate to patients. Not all workers but majority. I would say especially the white blonde ladies in the ER front desk. Their attitude is disgusting. Clearly hate their jobs and lives, they should be let go or find another occupation, maybe garbage ladies.
I had a great labor and delivery experience at NCH Arlington Heights. Every staff member I encountered, from nurses to doctors to hospitality staff were friendly, supportive, and helpful. I appreciated that my wishes during labor were respected and that an epidural was not pushed on me. The care I received postpartum was excellent and communication between nurses changing shifts was thorough. My husband and I found our stay to be comfortable and an overall positive experience.
Very bad experience at the ER a few months ago. It took them so long I started to have seizures in the waiting room & then they cared. Furthermore, i had to wait 4 months for my follow up appt where they rudely tried to get me to switch to zoom. This was after about 3 calls to interrupt me at work…. And additionally never received the link. I would strongly recommend staying very far from this place especially Dr. Zeidman and his lovely assistant. By lovely… i mean rude and unprofessional!
I arrived at ER at roughly 9 pm for knee pain. The intake nurse, was quick, nice and thorough. She set me up for an x-ray which happened pretty quickly! X-ray tech was fantastic too! It is now 1:25 am and I am still waiting for results! Ridiculous! How long does it take for someone to look at an x-ray for Pete Sake’s! Had I read previous reviews, I would have waited to go to Urgent care tomorrow. This is ridiculous! Believe the previous reviewers.
My wife was referred by an urgent care facility to the ER for severe abdominal pain-something we were told is very serious and shouldn’t be taken lightly. Not only were the ladies at registration unhelpful, but they were blatantly rude and gave no estimated wait time. We were there for 3 hours and weren’t seen by a doctor, so we just had to go home and hope her appendix wasn’t rupturing. Don’t come to this hospital if you have an actual emergency or need actual medical help.
If you dont wanna DIE, you shouldnt go to this hospital. There is 3 points of crazy things actually happened when My husband went to this Emergency Room by an ambulance,①He was shaking, puking and screaming because of unbelievable pain but Black grampy women staff forced to aske about his insurance information while he had unbelievable pain! so I asked to call his nurse about her name but she ignored it.②He needed help because of unbelievable pain so I asked help to White golden hair who wore skull clothes. She said ok, I’ll call his nurse. Wait a min. But she slowly walked and went to somewhere. And next time I saw her, she was chatting and laughing with Black insurance women! She didnt even call his nurse, she just ignored me!! So while we waited her, my husband patient unbelievable pain. She didnt call his nurse until I stronglyasked again.③His doctor gave me the iv but his pain didnt heal. So I asked to shot pain reliver many times. While pain relivers worked, he was fine. But his doctor said he should go home because its not serious. So we discharged. But his pain didnt stop so we went to other doctor’s ER. That hospital people said the iv which he got from NCH, it doesnt work for kidney stone. He should get surgeried now.OMG, unbelievable!!!! PLEASE, if you dont wanna be ignored or looked down, PLEASE remember my word. And I had terrible experience in NCH Harper college to because they gave me very risky and dangerous medicine. I was about to get a STROKE. PLEASE, PLEASE REMEMBER MY WORD!!!
My mom a 2x stroke survivor came to NWCH ER we’ve been in the ER since 9:30pm. It’s now 2:30am and we’re stilling waiting for her to be moved to med-surg. So I am sitting in the room listening to the nurses talk about going to the club, cursing and whatever else. I go to my mom’s nurse (sitting at the nurse station with a couple others) and immediately he gives me an attitude whenI asked how much longer it will be. I mean he was doing all the neck motions and everything. So tacky and unprofessional. I didn’t know NWCH was like this.By the way the nurses name is:Jacob, RN.
I was admitted with emergency appendicitis and had surgery. I had a very good experience from start to finish. I have also worked in acute medicine for 20 years so I understand the kind of pressures staff can be under sometimes. Ill also update if there are any billing or insurance issues that come up in the future.
This is not Robin Stoner and I dont know how to change this name to my name. I had a bad experience in March 2020 with Covid at this hospital in the ER. I was so sick and they told me I could just leave. I couldt walk 10 feet! I had to ask for a wheel chair. Now 18 months later I am getting a bill from this hospital. I have called the billing office 3 times asking for a manager to call me back as this should be covered under the CARES act. I tried calling again this morning and the billing person hung up on me. I dont know how to remedy this situation.
ABUSE! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Your LOVED ones are in DANGER!!!! They physical assaulted my grandfather post surgery by pushing him into the hospital beds instead of helping him in. They threw his leg which injured his incision and caused extreme pain. The care has gotten so bad that we literally have to transfer my grandfather to a different hospital. The staff are miserable people who will NOT treat patients or visitors with respect! GO ELSEWHERE!!! You will NOT get quality care. Your LOVED ones are in DANGER!! YOU ARE IN DANGER!!!!!!
I had a nurse who jabbed me 3x to draw blood.. 1st 2x she left the 2 needles stick out of my arm at the same time without removing them!.. 3rd time she took my blood in an odd spot on hand..I cannot tell you enough how utterly painful this was all 3x! This woman could not draw blood! ..I am never a hard stick to get blood. Not only does she not know her info about COPD.but she was rude and she really hurt me trying to get blood from me!
I would avoid this place if you can. I was recommended by my doctor to come here for a chest x-ray. I walked and they took the note I was given from my doctor and they photocopied my insurance card before the xray.2 months later I got a call saying my insurance didnt go through and they asked for my information again. They said I owed roughly 45 dollars. I offered to pay it. Turns out, they didnt submit the information correctly, so they tell me everything is good.1 month later. Same call. Only this time I owe $300 dollars. I email their manager my insurance card and ask them for verification, which the agent on the phone said they cant do. They cant call me to confirm either...But she said everything should be good.2 months later. I get another call saying I owe them money and my insurance didnt go through. It was 45$ dollars. I was upset, but I just paid it.5 days later. I get a collection call. When I try to call the back, they said Im current - BUT they are just the radiologist part and that I need to call another number because i probably owe the hospital money. When I call the hospital, they have their collection agencies on their automated service. I owed them $50 dollars, and they put me in collections. Please keep in mind, this is for 1 visit that lasted 15 minutes for one xray. They were given my health insurance the moment I arrived.Ive never dealt with any business as unprofessional as this one.
This was an absolutely terrible experience. We felt treated like objects, ignored, and dismissed.Nearly all Emergency Room Staff were rude & dismissive, even through shift changes. They were blatantly unhelpful, ignored us, and showed no care or thought for us whatsoever. We were not listened to or supported in any way.We question the sanitation procedures as multiple nurses randomly came into the room to throw items/used gloves away next to my husband. They were not our nurses or nurses we had interacted with. 6 other nurses wordlessly came into the room to move my husband into the hallway, forgetting to first detach his wires, and then abandoned him in the hallway near no desk/staff & left him without a call button or any information for what to expect next. Results were not told to us as they were done and we were bullied when asking about them. When we did get discharged, my husband was expected to change in his hallway out in the open. The list goes on and on, we have specific names and instances. There are other patients we overheard having the same issues, we saw multiple people leaving the ER against medical advice due to the wait times & handling of that by staff. All of them were yelled at vs. having a conversation about what happens if they leave or why the wait time is, etc. ZERO customer service. We ourselves were in the waiting room for 4 hours, having come in with chest pains. These continued all afternoon, I told the desk he was still having them. There was no care shown and they never came to check on him. After the 3rd time I asked, they brought him Tylenol. His reasons for coming into the ER are not listed properly on discharge paperwork. I could type all day long. I understand that the ER is a busy place and wait times are to be expected, but the issue is the treatment of the patients and what “customer service” looks like/how it gets handled while still showing care for your patients. We plan to email and contact the customer service phone number we were given as well. However, a hospital is supposed to be a safe place to feel cared for and listened to. We did not feel this or the compassion. Everything else in your Facebook description seems false to us - based on our experience and what we saw/heard from other patients. We will NEVER be returning to this hospital for any reason, emergency or not. And only think it is fair that other people are able to get a glimpse of what we experienced today to prevent going through it themselves. We are home, feeling worse and defeated with no results or plan moving forward and still persistent chest pains/other symptoms. Nothing was prescribed. We wish we had gone to any other hospital or the Minute Clinic instead, regardless of distance away from us.
I do not recommend this hospital because they are sloppy with medical records which could cause a misdiagnosis. Read your records with a fine tooth comb and if something is wrong speak up! Better yet, choose a hospital with better ratings. It seems like money is the main focus here and staff recklessly deals with patient health records. Also, they run tests on you that they dont tell you they are doing nor discuss the results of to pad their profit. Basically, you will be charged extra for questionable tests that they never mention to you nor have an indication for your aliment to begin with.
The only hospital we will go to! Over the past 2 years, our family has had multiple experiences with NCH. 2 open heart surgeries, 1 birth of a child (during COVID). Everyone from the receptionist, to scheduling, to nurses and the doctors provide the best care and are very patient-centric. During my dads unexpected open heart surgery, the surgical coordinator called us frequently to give us updates as we couldnt even be in the waiting room due to COVID. During the birth of my first child, nurses were attentive, empathetic and informative which was much appreciated since it was only my husband and I in the hospital for the duration for our stay. Highly recommend this facility and all its staff for any medical need.
Staff doesnt communicate well internally from department to department. Nurses blindly feeding patients without following nurses notes from previous shifts. Patient covered in vomit for hours. Terrible to see family go in and come out worst after being in a general hospital room.ICU staff at NWCH are amazing. But the rest of the hospital is on a very poor learning curve.
Worse Experience I ever had to deal with. I had a major head trauma and I was dismissed without even being told how to care for my injury. And lower abdominal injury which wasn’t even looked at! I’m allergic to a lot of medication & for pain medicine they offered me Benadryl!! Never will I come back to get treated here again. Learn to care for patients instead of talking to each other and laughing in the E.R speak to your patients!!!!! Make sure they are comfortable at all times!!!!!!
I would give zero stars if I could. Erin in registration was rude, unhelpful, and did not share information until confronted. Id give input on the doctors, but after waiting for 3 hours I was never seen. This hospital is a joke and Id recommend home treatment over wasting your time at Northwest Community.
The staff was very unprofessional, joking and playing around. I waited 5 hours in the ER waiting room. Then another hour to be seen. I was given strong pain meds. and sent home.I had to return because I was still sick. I was kept for observation and the next night still had vomit stained gown on.I have never had this experience at any hospital.
Wow I thought the hospitals in Waukegan were bad this place is horrible. I had some extreme chest pains was brought here by ambulance the nurse I had was awesome but the ER doctor had the worst attitude could careless what I was going through told me they deal with the worst of the worst in the ER and next time I should try some ibuprofen for my chest pain that I thought was a heart problem from the pain I was having and try a different place instead of going to the ER. She talked over me and didn’t listen to a word I said. I could get better help at a local gas station or corner store I would avoid this place at all cost.
My husband went to the ER with symptoms of a heart attack. From the ER through the entire stay our experience was horrible. We’ve had 5 previous ER/hospital visits over the past year and nothing was even close to this bad. The waiting for all information was ludicrous. Doctors/nurses quickly ran out before we could ask questions. Even waiting for discharge took forever!
Hospital emergency rooms are generally places no one wants to be. For various medical issues, my family has spent more than our fair amount there in the past few years. We have a choice as we can choose NCH and another local hospital, but time after time we have chosen NCH. Here is why: from the Information team, to Admitting, to Triage, to ER techs, nurses, and doctors, despite having to see us all at our worst, they all are extremely caring and focused on our issues. These teams are overworked (especially with the pandemic) and are stretched extremely thin. Even through that, they come in with a war-worn smile every time. I make sure I thank them and return that smile when I can.Recently, I found myself in ER due to a neck issue. I recieved a call from the ER doc the next day, checking up and making sure I made an appointment with a pain doc as she had suggested. I just thought that was a extra touch that was just amazing.I have nothing but good things to say about NCH and the ER department and I am glad to have them as an option.
I was admitted for covid pneumonia and stayed in the hospital for 2 weeks. I have to say this is hands down then best hospital, they took me in very fast, they right away took a blood test and an xray to figure out the problem. The service from everyone was very caring and I am very grateful for how I was treated while I was in there. I would give a 10 star review of it was possible. Please keep up the great caring service and setting an example for the Healthcare industry!
I must say this was not a good experience. I needed ER, burning in fever and had distress in breathing and they had me wait for 4 hours at a chair, in so much pain. This is not what ER is about. I will not mention the overcharges in everything. Thank god my insurance covered most of it but it is to the point that this is getting ridiculous. Mediocre to bad service. Front desk rude, thankfully doctors are polite. This hospital has problems! I dont know if its like this everywhere but I am not satisfied at all!
My husband was admitted to the hospital with a very serious condition. Due to covid, I was unable to see him. He was in the ICU and unable to speak to me. I was codependent on information being conveyed through the doctors and nurses. The level of communication was non existent. The only specialist that was consistent was nephrology. I would request for other specialist to call and they would not. Furthermore, they would call to have a procedure authorized prior to even receiving a call from the doctor. In addition, the procedures were not fully explained. BE SURE to have the my chart app too! This is the only way you can fully understand what they say you are authorizing. Unfortunately, there is a 2 day lag. When they called for an authorization, they politely left out the side effects. In addition, they left my husband in excruciating pain for 32 days (14 of those days were in the hospital) because they considered it an out-patient procedure. The internist told me that they do not have the equipment to do a EMG in the hospital. That being said, they list EMG as a service provided on their website. Therefore, we had to wait until he was released from the hospital to perform the EMG, go back to the orthopedic doctor he had seen 3 times during the hospital stay, and finally get the needed surgery. Ironically, we thought he was going to have to be admitted back in the hospital to get the surgery due to the uncertainty of his ability to tolerate anesthesia. Finally, when I went to pick him up, the nurse handed me a packet of papers in the middle of the lobby in front of other employees, others waiting to pick up loved ones, and asked if I had any questions or needed any explanations. I guess HIPAA laws do not apply anymore either. If you have a choice, do not go to the hospital here. On the other hand, day surgery is completely different!
My father was taken to the emergency room after a stroke on Jan 27 th. My dad suffers from dementia and relies on my mom. He was admitted on Wednesday the 27 th. My mom did not get a call from any doctor until Sunday Jan 31st. I understand it is Covid you need to look at your policies and consider a patient with dementia is a sickness and a family member should be there or the hospital should have better communication. The next call from a doctor was on Wednesday February 3. Dr Merek Filipiuk Md called my mom insisting we need to pick him up now he is very disruptive and get him out now. We had it arranged for him to come home on Thursday and this doctor never checked the chart. Very rude on the phone to my mom. Told my mom good luck very sarcastic. Can’t believe a doctor could be so rude and unprofessional no bedside manner. You need to look at having a person by the phone to answer questions and read the chart correctly. Will never recommend the hospital to anybody.
The staff at night in the labor and delivery room was rude! Charge nurse actually tried me. All I asked for was HELP and a sense of urgency and she took offense to that. The little girl had a whole attitude about her job. Trust me go to where you are really cared for! ANOTHER HOSPITAL!
While I was here from San Diego because my sister was dying, I had a blockage of my small intestine in March. The expert care I received from this hospital was wonderful. Because of their expertise, I did not require surgery. During my eight day stay, I was attended to by remarkable doctors, nurses and other staff. Then, on Holy Thursday, I fell and broke my femur. This required surgery. I was given intense physical and occupational therapy and am able to walk with a walker. My sister died the Saturday after Easter and I was out on a four hour pass to attend Mass and be with our large family. I am 81 years old and so thankful for the excellent care given by a staff of caring medical people. God bless you all and thank you that you have made it possible for me t return home so quickly. I have been hospitalized in the past but have never experienced anything like the care given at. Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. ❤️🌹🙏🏻😊
I’m in emergency now I’m in very-very bad pain! and they put me in a room and talking to each other talking about their weekend. My stomach hurts sooo bad!!!I’m in such a pain. Add 5 min to that time 5 min ago I turned on the timer. They talking about some show!Update 20 min later still no help!I’ve been experiencing extreme pain. They didn’t not give me any kind of medicine to help with pain until they took drug test,Then 1 hour later they finally discovered that this is appendicitis. Bottom line, I was in such a huge pain for 1 hour, med workers was just going through their day, no one helped.
Our insurance recently changed and we were unable to use our regular hospital network - we were forced to use NCH. BEST THING THAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO US!! My husband was recently admitted on an emergency basis - the care, the doctors, the nurses and the supporting staff were thorough, kind, compassionate and all around stellar. I cant say enough good things. 5 stars is just not high enough
Ridiculous services !!! Unprofessional Patient relations service and the doctors are businessmen, caring on how to bill the insurance and to get paid!!! During a simple procedure to get my kidney stones out, the urologist ruptured my bladder! I dont want to talk about the pain I experienced, the time I spent in the hospital, but this is unbelievable and patient rations are trying to tell me that this is a risk with the procedure??? No one ever mentioned potential risks, I was not going to have it done. Unprofessional Doctors and attitude!!!! Do not use them for any reason. Im still at home with a catheter, trying to heal from a Doctors mistake!!!
I Dont recommend anyone going to this hospital at all ! They are very unprofessional, i took my son who is two years old to the emergency room because he burned his hand and they did get him help right alway i was there for 3 hours and when they finally gave him medicine for pain they were really aggressive with him one of the nurses didt even sanitize before putting her hand on my son or gloves then my husband was trying to get walk around the conner from our room he hear one of the nurses shout out to a patient oh yea you have Covid-19 ! Like really? Like nothing like be more professional and keep these kind of paints always from us mostly a two year !! Never going there agin !!!
This hospital is very good with the best nurses and doctor ever! I went there with the terrible abdominal pain and got helped right away. They took me to CT scan and find out the problem. I had to stay in the surgical unit for 2 days and those two days were amazing, nurses would come ever 15 minutes to check my vitals, doctors came to see me every day twice or three times a day. So I had endoscopy procedure with the doctor Benjamin Vancura and anesthesiologist Marco Fernandez I would say just the best doctors ever, they were was professional and trustworthy! I would like also thank nurses of surgical unit: Tylor, Susan, Suzanne,Debbie, Daysy, Tina, Blanka. Thank you so much for treating me so professionally! God bless you all🙏
Patient Beware!!!! Worst experience of my life! I was neglected by emergency room staff while I was passing out in a wheelchair. I needed 2 bags of blood and the nurse spilled one of the bags. They then completely refused to give me another. I showed up there at 9pm and we were unable to speak to a doctor until 7am the next morning due to them not having a single doctor on staff. They then were pushing to do a quick surgery in the morning for a problem I didnt even have. Turns out I have cancer and would have likely died if they attempted that surgery. When attempting to transfer to another hospital, they continuously threatened me with my stay not being covered and lied about availability in another hospital. Mount Prospect Fire Department is aware of the poor quality of care and incompetent staff at Northwest Community. MPFD are directed on emergency calls to advise anyone able to make their own decision, to chose another hospital or otherwise they reluctantly have to use this hospital due to it being local.
Yikers, in ER now with elderly father. Place is pretty dismal. Not enough staff to help. Basically on your own here. Really wish we would have stayed home. Sitting in soiled diaper for hours. No call button given, so good thing I’m here as an advocate. If you can get to a teaching hospital, take my advice and drive. It is worth it.
It looks according to the reviews like it is hit or miss here? Im quite surprised to hear that because while there I had some of the best care Ive ever received. The staff were all friendly and really seemed to love their jobs too. My husband and I had a moderate drive to get there (were from Elmhurst) and after leaving we wondered if they have general practitioners and other docs that work there that we could see in the future- it would be well worth the trip we were so impressed. The location is very clean and tidy and the building is also very aesthetically pleasing. More importantly, the communication was exceptional start to finish for my procedure- I knew if any delays also, and my husband was kept in the loop as well. The nurses and doctors all came to introduce themselves prior to surgery and checked in on me again after my procedure. Bedside manner can sometimes be the sacrifice for a great doctor, but not here. Dr. Bochenska was my surgeon and I cant say enough good things about her! I would recommend considering this hospital for sure for your next procedure.
My 83 year old mother was taken to the emergency room this evening after being in a car accident. Due to covid, I was not allowed in and was told by phone to go home and I’d get a phone call with an update. They gave me no other information. Three hours later and no phone call, I called and spoke with a nurse. Not much info given as they were awaiting tests. Told me I’d get a call in about an hour. Two hours later I still hadn’t heard anything more. I called again and was disconnected. I called back and was on hold 22 minutes. They sounded flustered, said the nurse wasn’t answering his phone. Another woman came on the phone and I expressed my frustration at being on hold so long and not being given any detailed information about my mother’s injuries and whether she would be held overnight. She said they were very busy and were waiting on orthopedic doctors but wouldn’t tell me any details on the injuries. I reiterated her age and that I hadn’t even been able to speak with her. The woman said In a very rude manner “you’ve told me her age 3 times and I don’t feel like getting yelled at.” Then she hung up on me. I’m completely shocked a staff member would behave this way. I realize it is very stressful working in emergency; however, it does not excuse that behavior. I’d like to ask how she’d feel if her elderly mother was alone in a hospital and she had no idea what was happening. This is unacceptable care and this woman should not be working in healthcare.
We walked in to the ER at 4am and it looked like a homeless shelter. People sleeping under blankets, some who eventually just got up and walked out. Empty cans, bottles and food wrappers left on tables. Might want to work on cleaning the place. Blood on the floor once we got in an exam room. Went home and showered. Felt dirty.
Atrocious billing department! My child received a 5 minute consultation and a misdiagnosis at an NCH Immediate Care, which resulted in over $500 worth of charges leaving me with $355 to pay; not to mention the further unnecessary $464 ER charge at Lutheran.Brittany, a supervisor, explained that anyone would receive the same invoice for a doctor to look at my son for a minute before telling us to go to the ER. So at least theyre universal in their unethical billing. But she isnt a browbeater, she left that to Randy who convinced me to pay the whole amount because hey, you havent got the time or energy to challenge these arbitrary bills, so just pay and get on with your life, to paraphrase. He also made it very clear he knows where I work, adding a little extra touch of intimidation. So, against my moral missgivings, I paid the full amount.I had no reason to leave a review on the hospital site but then, months later adding insult to injury, they sent another bill for $39 for Hospital Services. We didnt go to the NCH hospital. Perhaps thats why they sent the bill, trying to pilfer some extra money since they missed out on the ER fees. You might choose this hospital for its care, but remember, a bad billing department can make your life a living nightmare afterwards. Choose wisely.
Waited in the waiting room with a serious issue just for them to turn me away because theyre only running a partial staff tonight (because American hospitals are all about maximizing $$$). One half the ER was filled with psych cases and the other half ambulances riders. I had to ask what was going on to even get a clear answer and then left agaisnt medical advice. By that point the clinics will be open in a few hours. If youre not aware no matter how minor an ambulance patients issue is they get first priority treatment. All because youre paying them more and their ridiculous taxi fee to the hospital. This place was being run and staffed like some 3rd world countries hospital would be. I will be billing them a $200 invoice for wasting my time. Everytime I end up in NCH the place gets worse and worse.
I changed my rating to 1 star after originally I rated 2 star. Northwest hospital standards are dropped and their level of service is lower than cook county hospital in Chicago. Just go there if u cant find any other hospitals. We went to ER in mid night on 8/18/19 and the reception does not seems like reception ER.Staff was busy at reception for their own gossip.Everyone is in relax mode and does not have seriousness of ER.There is no one in front of us but we waited 30 plus min to hear from nurse. When I saw patients who came after me taken I asked Julissa at reception how long it will take to see doctor? She answered you are waiting for 40 min and I cant tell you how long it will take. Usually people asked us for waiting time. You did not asked. I hope managing person is reviewing the reality of hospital before they killed the patient with 5 to 10 digit hospital bill.Very bad experience. Will stay with our Lutheran hospital. It is way better than NCH.
ER is ok ..transporter Juan was incredible pulling me back and forth to scans, full of energy great guy! I went on the 3rd floor and Dr Ahluwalia and Dr Ryabov treated me. I consider myself lucky to end up under their professional care, so grateful! Incredible doctors! All the nurses that came and go in my room were extremely polite and attentive: Tiffany, Stacy, Karol are amazing all the techs too.. I wish food was a bit better but hey we can’t have it all, or can we?! ;)
I was moved to the ER of this hospital last year against my will because some officers got word that I was experiencing suicidal ideation. The people here did absolutely nothing for me; they left me alone in an empty patient room all night until my father picked me up and then they had the absolute gall to charge me thousands of dollars for doing nothing. That night still brings me a lot of uncomfortable memories, and the fact that they tried to wring me dry like this is one of the most upsetting, disgusting things I ever dealt with.NEVER, EVER go to this hospital!
If you have a choice, DO NOT go here. This our second visit to the ER with my dad in the past few years, and each time the wait has been hours upon hours upon hours. Years ago his kidney was damaged probably partly from waiting too long. Also, I had to ask the nurse why is he starting to turn blue, for her to realize his lungs are filling with water and he needs oxygen. I wonder what would have happed if I had not been around. Now, we have been sitting for 5 hours in the ER while my dad has been bleeding for over 15 hours. We were told that they can not give us an estimated wait time. Someone else has waited 6 hours, and they don’t have space for us. After all, we are in the ER! It is unbelievable that this is happening in Arlington Heights, IL, US.Bottom line, if you have a choice, do yourself a favor and go somewhere else!
I had a severe emergency and was in the hospital for 4 days. The staff was very attentive & very friendly. The helpers in my room even wiped me down with body wipes while I was brushing my teeth. My two nurses every shift were all incredibly nice and personable. And, the food was pretty decent, and I got my choice of whatever I wanted.
We sent our son to the outpatient behavioral health program after he was discharged from another facility as an inpatient. His doctor there increased his medication without telling us, and told our son oh by the way tell your parents. We found him hoarding his medication, which is dangerous as he had a history of self harm. In addition, some of the staff were rude and judgemental towards us, especially when it came to miscommunicating about scheduled pick up times. We pulled him immedately from the program when we found out the dr increased his meds without discussing with us. I left a message for the behavioral health director and have not received a call back. I wouldnt send my child here.
My daughter went to the er complaining of sharp stomach, chest, and back pain. All they did was give her morphine and that’s it. We saw the doctor once, and the nurses lacked good bedside manners. No one cared if you were in pain or needed actual help. The nurses spent their time laughing outside instead of helping people. At the end they just let us go saying we don’t know call ur doctor and to just take Tylenol. They never even asked my daughters medication history and anything. NEVER COME HERE THEY DONT CARE ABOUT THEIR PATIENTS.
I had a collapsed lung and went to the ER. The ER doctor who performed my chest tube insertion was great. However the nurse who checked me in was not so good. Her attitude lacked any compassion and she seemed really unhappy so maybe something was going on with her or she was having a bad day. I had to stay for 5 days in the hospital. Overall I was so pleased with the doctors and hospital nurses and staff, it made up for it.
Recently had a multiple day stay at Northwest. Started in the E.R. and then on the Cardiology floor. From the E.R. staff, doctors and nurses to the awesome, knowledgeable and compassionate Cardiology nurses and doctors I say Thank You!! But without the kindness and compassion of someone that gets overlooked My mood would have bottomed out. When We need to stay in any hospital for an extended amount of time, We have to eat. Now We dont expect food like Mortons or Chicago Prime Steakhouses, We need food that will sustain Us and keep what little strength We have. One voice made Me smile everyday that I was there. A cafeteria worker with the name of Elizabeth. I talked with Elizabeth quite often when ordering My breakfast, lunch and dinner. Elizabeths voice had a compassion and warmth unlike any one elses at Northwest. I doubt that she will ever see this review or be told about it, but, from the bottom of My heart Elizabeth, Thank You for being My Angel !!
If I could I would give this hospital zero starts! I had a very bad experience starting with the nurse that was in front today at the emergency room. She was rude and very aggressive with her words! I understand that they are trying to be more precautious because of covid19. But you would imagine they would also be more nice and understanding to families that can not be there with their loved ones! Everyone has a different state of mind! But be kind!!! She was a completely jerk!
Wow where do I begin? My Mom was sent here from her doctor because of pain she’d been having in her heart. After her doctor did some exams she decided it was best for my DIABETIC Mother to go in to the ER to see a doctor. So it’s 9:30am and my Mom checks in. Paperwork was THROWN at her out of some type of frustration these ladies might of been having. And she wasn’t attended to until 5PM!!!!Again, SHES DIABETIC. Diabetic people NEED to eat! To top that off, I called in to ask why my Mom had to wait so long and I spoke with DORIS who was absolutely rude. She even had the audacity to ask me if I was eating something over the phone?? Who asks a question like that?? I was shocked! It doesn’t end there, once she transferred me to the nurse who assisted my mother, he had nothing but ATTITUDE! What is wrong with these people? He was talking to me like I was a child and not comprehending what he had to say. One of my questions was why did it take 5+ hours to attend my Mother. (She had to leave to pick my brother up from school) and his response in a very sarcastic tone “well I’m sorry your mother doesn’t have family members who can pick your brother up”. I really can not believe these kind of people work here!!!Lastly, the doctor who finally did attend my Mother, made a comment “I’m sorry you’re a patient with no patience” because she told him she did not feel well after waiting so long without eating. Who in the world hires these people and allows them to treat others so rude? Is this not a business? It’s absolutely unbelievable!!!
My mother Jo-An Clay needed urgent care on a holiday no less. I was amazed by the emergency departments rapid response team. After witnessing their care for her, I am so comfortable and confident that the hospital has qualified personnel in each position. Another big bonus was their friendly and truly caring dispositions toward her well being. Thank you for making a nerve racking situation tolerable.
I recently had a triple bypass at NCH and must admit I was impressed. From the moment we arrived we were treated very well by a well organized and well trained staff.Any surgery that starts with a circular saw cutting your chest open is not going to be particularly fun but the hospital did the best they could to take care of all my needs.Since my return home I have had perfect at-home nursing and Physical Therapy care.
Do not receive care from this hospital, especially if you are experiencing financial difficulty. The medical was nothing exceptional and administration, specifically the billing department, lacks any kind of ability to assist patients. The financial assistance department is completely incompetent and terrible with customer service. I have been hung up on multiple times, I have been told my calls will be returned, and I spoke in person with a counselor named Cathleen Freels for a very simple request and she was supposed to follow up with me and I never heard back. She simply acted as if the concerns I brought her were not her problem.I called trying to follow up and spoke on the phone with multiple people trying to solve my problem and they tried to refer me to billing, then stated they would call me back. Never heard back.My first interaction was never documented - completely unprofessional and convenient for them - because of this I asked to speak with a supervisor. Never heard from them. This place does not want to work with you. They just want you to pay outrageous fees.I will do my best to refer anyone AWAY from the entire NCH system and continue to advertise how awful their system is. Go to Lutheran General Hospital instead.Edit: Adding that reaching out to the phone number/email that they provide in their response to reviews is also a waste of time. I reached out before I received a response on here and have still not gotten a reply. This gives them the appearance of being invested in customer service without having to back it up.Edit #2: Instead of reaching out and working with patients, the financial assistance department just sends your bill to collections regardless of how many attempts a patient makes at finding a reasonable payment method. It is completely unethical to send patients to collections that have tried to work with the billing department. Again, there is no interest in helping patients.
I had an appointment for a Covid test at 10:30 am today, 4/10/2021and I had to wait in a crowded waiting room for 50 minutes. Two other ladies were waiting for over an hour. I finally said something to the person doing the tests about the wait. She was taking ten minutes or more in between people getting their test taken. The test takes one minute to do. Old people waiting also in the waiting room. After I said something she got three of us out in a few minutes. Then a guy goes in with his wife and kid ahead of all the people waiting and buts in and they let him. It was awful service. If I think there was two technicians dining the testing and I dont know what they did on between each test but it was not trying to get people in and out of their. Sitting inside that room room, all together in a hospital waiting room I am sure is not healthy. Really upsetting. People thanked me for speaking up because they had been waiting do long.
I had an outpatient microdiscectomy done at NCH. All of the staff made me feel extremely welcome and comfortable during the entire procedure. All of the operating staff introduced themselves to me ahead of time and were sure to answer any questions I had. The recovery nurses were similarly wonderful, even working to make personal connections with me and to make me laugh and smile. Overall I was very pleased.
Re-posting my old review 6 months old:Not a good Administration and no industry standards and disciplines for their management. The Doctors and Nurses are qualified outside and do not give their share of quality credit to this hospital.Issue #1:We had a visit on 2016 Nov and we paid few bills from different people including the hospital around that time, On Jan 2019 when my spouse admitted again there, they gave another bill of $1500, bill dated Jan 2019 and service date in Nov 2016. I got surprised and asked the billing about the delay, they blindly said it was the insurance who delayed settlement, when I checked with the insurance, they gave me complete information on the settlement and the patient responsibility on Nov 2016 itself. I realized the hospital billing was the reason for the late notice and because of which I lost my opportunity to submit claim in my Secondary insurance in India. Indian insurance denied my claim due to not submitting the bills on time. Yeah, they are strict on timings, you cannot keep the bills in your pocket for years and claim them when you wish. After months of follow ups, their patient relationship manager agreed for a discount (the remaining amount is still a loss for me). During this discussion I had to go out of country for 1 month for a family emergency and the same was updated to the billing (by the patient relationship team). After I came back, I got the notice from collection department. I resumed my follow up again, whenever I call the billing or the patient relationship team, they talk like we are talking the first time and they intentionally forget the old conversation or they have no system to record the communication. Finally I had to get their email id and send the screenshots of what we already had discussed and then they agreed and processed my discounted bill (I still lost a good amount after discount). Now I don’t even know if they have updated the collection department or not. I am testing my luck again.Issue #2:I also made couple of other payments recently for my spouse recent hospitalization. I requested them to process all bills and I even follow up with insurance to ensure everything is processed on time. Well, I hope all done, they said everything is in mychart and I have to believe that until I get a bill after many years. After I made the payments, I asked for a proof of payment like a receipt or something, The team send me the detailed statement for that, I explained them what a payment receipt look like (I know everyone know it, still in case…). They send me the statement again by mentioning no dues in it. Well, My India insurance was literally looking for the proof for I paid the remaining bill or not, but I had no luck to get a payment receipt from this Hospital. Even for a dollar tree purchase, they will give a proper receipt of your payment. I gave up after wasting my time with these people and finally I end up accepting the minimum claim without paid receipt. To the hospital: at a minimum, a customer will expect a proper bill (not a letter), a proper response (not a recorded or pre-defined answer), a proper receipt for bill pays (again, not a letter or a no due statement). So Guys, the conclusion is, the Doctors and nurses are really good, you can find them everywhere. But they are not the only people you are going to deal with for a hospitalization, the big part is the other departments like the department/people I mentioned earlier. Be healthy guys…
I was brought to the mental health department due to a fraudulent phone call made by someone who I havent spoken to in 2 years. I explained that I was fine and mentally stable and that this day was to be a day of grieving over a serious death in my life. Instead I had to wait to speak to a doctor over my treatment. After the meeting I was given 3 options: stay one more night there for more observation, be transferred to an outpatient facility for hospitalization or receive a referral for outpatient therapy. Both me and my husband expressed interest in out patients or at least one more night at that location so I could go home the next day. I was immediately told the choice had already been made before they told me my options and they were sending me to inpatient treatment at the nearby location (I cannot recall its name, but its on the same premises of the hospital). My husband spoke to 3 supervised explaining that what was best for me was to go home and be with family. He was ignored. I was told a call had been placed to the inpatient facility and that I would be transferred in a few hours as there was a bed available (this was at 10pm). They gave my husband the contact information for that hospital and he left. The next day at noon I am told Im being transported. I verify I am going only a block away, only to be told by the nurse that there was NEVER a bed available and Im being transferred all the way to Elgin. I had to call my husband because nobody contacted him to inform him of this. The hospital they sent me to did more damage to me. I did not want to harm myself. I did not want to end my life. I wanted to be home and grieving but was blatantly ignored.
I sent My baby son here in ER because he had fever. I was glad they checked him in quickly. A nurse and a physician assistant did physical check, then we waited hours and hours for results of chest x-ray (After over a months, I received a separated bill from Radiology department besides bills from the ER facility’s and PA’s) and flu. They are all normal routine for physical check. They provided fever med and no further tests were needed. Also another nurse aggressively hold my son’s cheek and pour the med in his month even though he already looked like he was choking. I doubted it was professional. Then, we got over $330 bill (provider portion, that PA is not even a physician, but I was charged more than a specialist could charge me )sent to our insurance, which was ridiculous. I didn’t not receive any bills from hospital. When I called, my address was wrong( Both street and city name), no wonder I didn’t receive that bill. They let us wait for long hours, did not do much, then I was told via phone I have another $350+(my portion to pay ) facility bill. Not to mention, I paid $100+ up front in the beginning of visit. I feel like being robbed. If I had known how much and how long it took, I shall have sent him to his pediatrician. Literally, they charged me and my insurance thousands for giving my son a 10 min physical check on his vitals and oxygen level, and the fever meds they provided simply because a worried mother went to ER because her 18 months old son had fever.
My son has been in and out of this hospital since he was 3 months old. He wasnt properly diagnosed with asthma because of his age. Well the first time he had an asthma attack he has spinal fluid taken out which was so painful to watch and hear my 3 month old shriek in pain down the hallway. That experience for a first time patent was really hard but we got through it.The second time around was more traumatic because my son was basically lifeless in my arms. And to top that all off I have the some sort of head nurse making statements to the other nurses he isnt going to make it, we are going to loose him, he isnt strong, like if I wasnt there at all. I had to be strong for both my baby and myself because I honestly wanted to curse her out of that room. The other nurses didnt say or reply to anything she said Im not sure but it seems that a child life doesnt really matter to her at all.The times that followed until this day have been more smoothly since my son was diagnosed at 8 months with asthma. The ER team knows what to do as soon as I walk in with him. Although no one like beenhospitalized there staff is always attentive not only to my childs needs but to mine as well and that is greatly appreciated.
This hospital is great, my daughter has been here multiple times and my mother recently underwent minor surgery. Since we walked in through the emergency doors everyone has been very nice and kind. Doctors and nurses are very informative and always making sure you are comfortable. I definitely recommend this hospital. We’ve been here at least 5 different occasions and I’ve never had a complaint. Great hospital.
It was a very rough day for me as a mother. My 16 year old daughter was having over dose reactions to some drugs she was using to self medicate. An underlying problem I had no knowledge about. The staff in the ER was a class act! Their compassion and helpfulness helped both my daughter and myself in a time of crisis. Then the ultrasound tech went above and beyond when my daughter started to ask her about her career choice. It was the first time I saw my daughter get into inquire and be curious about something with her future and this tech went above and beyond to answer her questions. Then when we arrived to the Pediatric unit they went above and beyond, even though my daughter needed a sitter, they didnt make her feel like she was being watched or that she did something wrong. Lastly the in patient program over at Behavioral health. They took a huge burden off me. Karen my daughters case manager is a saint! She definitely is underpaid, cause you truly cant put a price on her taken and knowledge of how to handle my daughter in this situation.
I have my appointments at the Rohlwing Rd medical group. I am very thankful for my doc and the medical assistants . The same faces have been there for quite sometime with two newer receptionists. Both ladies were very friendly and polite . I noticed one of the newer workers asking for help with something and the other receptionist yelled at her . Told her you should know this ! I felt badly for this person who did walk away and hopefully got her answer but I never heard something like this before in a medical practice.
Went for a colonoscopy, not my favorite to say the least. But the level of service and care was exceptional. Care of privacy, respect, sensitivity was exceptional. A lady came into the office with a super gripe that could have blown up the waiting room, but a caring professional woman with answers and real focus took her aside and solved her problem. In the meantime, I was taken carefully to the operating room with much conversation and care in executing the procedure. Next thing I know I was in the recovery room eating cookies and juice. It was all over. That is the way I like it. Felt like I went on a trip. Soon I was on my way home with no pain or unpleasant memories at all. Thank you Northwest Community Hospital for your careful attention to important detail.
My doctor sent me to the Emergency Room and it was the worse experience! Check in was quick and very efficient and then it broke down! It took over two hours to get from the remote small waiting area to a exam room then over an hour before I saw the doctor. Never again unless it is in an ambulance. I had the same experience 15 years ago, so nothing changed except they have more places to hide patients.
I am so pleased to leave a review for the outpatient day surgery staff. My experience was excellent. They were sensitive to my needs (I have PTSD) and were kind and generous with their time and expertise. I especially want to commend nurses Karen, Lynn and Mary as well as Dr. Hegge. NWCHs staff is far superior to any other hospitals we have had to be at. Thank you all!
This hospital and the care it provides has gone down hill. I used to want to come only to this hospital when I was sick because I knew I would receive the best care. Now when you enter , it what I imagine to be like jail, they treat you like you are just a number. A paycheck in their pocket.Their are no people skills. In the triage, the doctors are not paying attention to the patient or their chart. Just how fast they can get patients in and out. I have been offered to medications on my allergy list that is updated very frequently. When I contacted upper management they offered that I buy myself a medical bracelet. They question I have; if they couldnt take the time to read my chart and medical history, would they have taken the time to read my medical bracelet? My thought is probably not but at that point then the doctor would held accountable for her actions? The billing department has some unfriendly people. Called to setup payments and I couldnt afford their options. So I paid what could afford monthly. Then after awhile I would get a phone call almost every other day saying my bill was going to collections.I finally had enough and reached to customer relations. She never responded to my concerns after our first conversation. You waved me off.Great Customer service! I will no longer go to this hospital.I bought a medical bracelet and it says to take me to Alexian Brothers. I will also be changing my insurance so that I dont have to stay with any doctors from any NCH medical group.Love my doctor but will not even go to the treatment for services.
I had a great experience today at the hospitals ER. Each person ,tech and practitioner I came into contact with was friendly helpful and caring from the front office to the nurse to the transporter to the ultrasound tech to the housekeeper. Thank you for helping me feel better and for the care you gave while I was sick. A little care and compassion goes such a long way when you’re sick and I will always remember that -thank you
Absolutely terrible finance department. I called and asked about a bill and dealt with total hood rats who insisted on arguing with me versus trying to help me. Because of this, Ive changed hospital and doctor networks. For the first time in my life Ive vowed to never go back somewhere because of an encounter with their billing reps, thats how awful they are. I called because I paid my third and final installment of my bill and somehow a week later was submitted to collections. When I asked why I was submitted to collections and I received the response I dunno, maybe you should pay yo bills. I explained I paid the bill and that they sent me to collections in error, her response was you need to stop calling here and be callin the collection agency, its their problem now, not mine, we pay our bills. I went on to explain that I had already called the collection agency and that the item needed to be pulled from the hospitals end. I asked to speak to a supervisor and she was even worse than the original person I spoke with. As soon as she got on the phone she was incendiary and verbally combative. She started out by saying we dont make mistakes, you do. I asked her to review my payments versus balance. She said she was going to have to call me back because she is about to go to lunch and she needed to consult with her supervisor on this matter. I explained that Ive never once received a call back from that office and Ive left several messages over the past 10 days. She said Im going to put you on hold real quick like. then promptly hung up on me. I plan on going to their offices tomorrow in person to get this matter settled once and for all. All this drama for a bill that I paid in three parts and have receipts for all three payments. AVOID THIS HOSPITAL AND MEDICAL NETWORK AT ALL COSTS!!
I Took my father to the ER with abdominal pain a week ago. The staff were extremely attentive and the ER doctor was able to diagnose quickly the problem quickly. My dad had gallstones. Surgery was performed on a Monday and all went smoothly. I cannot say enough for the nurses. This has not been our first experience here. My dad also came to emergency 3 years ago and ended up having quintuple bypass at nch. This also was a positive experience in terms of the professionalism and compassion of the staff at NCH. I highly recommend this hospital to anyone.
Lol. They have a waiting area for Emergency. They made us to wait for hours and hours in waiting area when patient had real emergency was struggling with so much of pain. What is the point of emergency when they make patients to wait for hours and hours.I even see one patient crying a lot infront of me by sleeping on d floor. But they are not bothered about taking her in.When I asked at front desk how much appropriate more time it may take. She was looking at me angrily and with arrogance she repleid I don’t have any approximate time. Shocked with the front desk staff behavior.Never had such kind of inhuman medical experience in my life.

I felt well taken care of. I was there for out-patient surgery and all staff that I had contact with from registration to nurses and my doctors was exemplary. I wanted for very little. There was a 45 minute delay for the operating room because a prior surgery required more time, but I was kept informed. I dont think I could have been taken care of better anywhere else.
I had a very good experience here. The paramedics (are they connected to NCH?) were wonderful, and one of them even came back later to check on me in the ER. I was taken care of promptly, treated with respect by all staff members, and the procedures were explained to me thoroughly. With the exception of one of the nurses asking me if my 30 year-old friend was my daughter (way to make a 28 year-old feel really old!), it was the best I could ask for from an ER.
My son was a patient in February and March of this year (2017), and I was a patient there myself in February, at the same time my son was there. This was not a coincidence. I was visiting my son the first day of his hospitalization, and after sitting more than an hour, I got up to get more water and found my foot felt very strange and wasnt cooperating with my effort to walk. I tried forcing it to go along and my ankle gave out completely. It turned under severely and I fell. I sustained a severe sprain. I was unable to leave the hospital so I went to the ER. When I told the doctor what happened, he became very concerned that I might have suffered a mini-stroke, and he insisted on keeping me overnight so I could have an MRI the next day to investigate this possibility. As it turned out, the MRI showed nothing out of the ordinary. I had a consult with a neurologist there. She concluded my foot probably fell asleep from sitting so long and thats why it wasnt moving the way it should have, leading to my ankle twisting. I didnt realize my foot was asleep because it never felt like that before, just going numb and not moving properly. In the past, whenever I had a limb fall asleep, it tingled painfully when I moved it, like pins and needles sticking it. The neurologist said sometimes when I limb falls asleep, it doesnt tingle, it just feels strange--numb and rubbery. Im sure shes right BUT the doctor in the ER did not know that and, based on the symotoms as I described them, he was very right to be concerned about the possibility of a mini-stroke and it was 100% the right call to admit me for the necessary tests.I am very happy with the care I received while at Northwest Community Hospital. All rooms are private, which is how it should be. The food was very good and the selections were excellent. I like their system of letting the patient call the kitchen to order his or her meal tray when the patient feels like eating, and gives them some latitude in ordering. The nursing was very good. All the doctors who consulted on my care were extremely nice, showed dedication, seemed to really care and were good at their jobs. I ended up at NCH as a matter of chance. Thats where I was when I had my fall. But I would happily choose to go there again if I need hospital care in the future. I think its at the high end of where hospital care should be.As for my son, I am especially pleased with the care he received. He is a developmentally disabled, young adult who is in long-term care in the Arlington Heights area. He became ill at the care facility and was admitted both times to NCH. He received top-notch care. We were especially impressed with the team of patient techs who assist the nurse with patients in need of specialized (more time-consuming) care. They really attended to him diligently to make sure that he stayed clean and dry, and never in one position too long, to protect against pressure sores. He was very comfortable and relaxed during his stay. The rooms in the newer section of the hospital are really deluxe. They are spacious and extremely comfortable, with ample room for visitors, even one staying overnight. The reason my son had a second hospitalization within a month is because he had developed a problem digesting the formula he gets for food, which wasnt diagnosed the first time he was in. He had an aspiration pneumonia and that was the primary focus of his first hospitalization. The condition he developed is very tricky to diagnose, and it reflects well on the medical team they were able to pinpoint the problem the second time around. Some patients with this problem can go months without proper diagnosis. The dietitian who followed him ordered a different formula, with which he has done extremely well and has had no problems since. I am grateful for the care they provided.
Excellent Service, Always on time, very less wait time.Doctor is aware of your condition, listens & takes interest in what you have to say & provides advise accordingly.Nurses are very kind and helpful.I have updated my prescription service twice now with them & it was done at once. They are prompt in responding via email service available at NCH portal.
I gave birth here Dec. 15, 2020𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙨The hospital is nice. When I entered after my water broke the woman at the emergency room entrance and the woman who wheeled me to my room were both kind. My delivery nurse, Julie(not sure of her name), was kind and did her job to take care of me.Being a first time mom I had minimal ideas on what to expect. I learned what I could during the child-birthing class I took which helped me prepare for delivery but there was no “new mommy preparation” and post delivery was when I had the issues I experienced with this hospital just a few hours postpartum.𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙨After my first nurse postpartum the hospitality went out the window. Nurses didn’t display any empathy towards the mother who could be first time and doesn’t know what is going on. You know more than I do, you’re supposed to be the professional. So many nurses walked in my room all hours of the day/night, never cared if I was awake or asleep, didn’t knock or even say HELLO! I had to have a conversation with one who just came in saying she needed to do XYZ and never even introduced herself!I literally had enough of them poking my son over and over again to draw blood. I cried when this woman at 3am is telling me that there was more testing to be done. I was alone in the hospital 3am on day 2 at the hospital and didn’t know what was happening!I thank God I never had to let him out of my sight until he was with my doctor again for his circumcision. There were just many things I didn’t know and I didn’t appreciate the way they treated my newborn son. Then another nurse was more concerned about a mask in a pandemic than my comfort when it’s just my son and I in the room, post my negative COVID test! Ma’am I understand that you’re concerned about your health but you don’t have to be rude. READ THE CHART BEFORE YOU ENTER & LEARN TO HAVE SOME MANNERS & SPEAK TO THE PEOPLE THAT YOU SERVE! I would have and had no problem putting on my mask for people when they knocked first, spoke and/or introduced themselves.I will not stop singing the praises of my doctor! DR. NATASHA HARVEY is an excellent professional that needs to be recognized and appreciated! The level of disrespect for my doctor was insane! When she came to give my baby his circumcision she called the receptionist and said she was ready from my patient call button. The lady who answered said she was at lunch! Regardless I’m a patient at a hospital and maybe she didn’t hear correctly when she said it was Dr. Harvey, nope we were once again corrected as she said she’s at lunch again! Anything could have been happening to me as the patient and the fact that her lunch was more important than my doctor’s request was unmatched! My DOCTOR then had to walk herself down the hall to get their attention!I don’t know if it’s because she’s 𝗕𝗟𝗔𝗖𝗞, young or a woman as to why they treated her the way they did but it’s beyond disrespectful as she is qualified to and did an adequate job at DOING HER JOB!This was supposed to be one of the most joyous times as I birthed my baby. I put in work to deliver my child and expected some respect myself for being his mom. The way I was treat was very discriminatory on many levels and it sucked because again this was supposed to be a joyous occasion and for the fact I was only there less than 48 hours it should not have been a difficult task to do.To top it off after my vaginal delivery and my vagina bleeding all over the place and it being difficult to walk. They only give you a cheap baby bag but no mommy bag to send you home with the items you need to adequately care for yourself. Even a list of things to purchase would have sufficed. It’s all about the baby and more like you have to figure it out. I did figure it out, so it’s not much of a complaint for me as if, what if the new mom was younger or didn’t have money or access is this what she struggles with?! If so it’s sad. Food for thought!Overall healthcare should be equal, fair and nonjudgmental! It’s called health𝘾𝘼𝙍𝙀 people are supposed to be cared for!
A good bedside manner and compassion go a long way in the patient healing process. It truly does have an effect on the patients overall well-being.I went to NWCH Emergency Department today and had a wonderful experience with the physician assigned to me named Tiffany. Her bedside manner was ON POINT. She was receptive from the moment she walked into my room to introduce herself and I immediately felt at ease. She didnt make me feel rushed. She didnt try to pre-diagnose before physically assessing me (like so many physicians do). She ordered the appropriate medication for my pain (which was an anti-inflammatory steroid that has made a WORLD of difference for my symptoms and pain). Other pain interventions were offered as well (which is always appreciated), but I didnt feel like I needed anything else at that time. Her wonderful bedside manner alone alleviated my stress, bad mood, and discomfort. Not once during my visit did I feel embarrassed or judged. The medical world needs more physicians like her. She is TOP NOTCH!I have been having severe pain episodes for a few days now. A 10/10 pain that lasts a few moments to an hour at a time....several times a day. I started out at NCH immediate care on Sunday thinking I had a raging ear infection. Nothing was found, but I was given a prescription to manage my pain until I could see my PCP. Monday, I went to the dentist thinking it was possibly an abscessed tooth who sent me to the oral surgeon thinking it was TMJ. NEGATIVE. Walked into my PCPs office this morning (Tuesday) during walk in hours....was seen by a physician in the group that I had never seen before. Before even getting words out of my mouth, I was being scolded for taking a VERY small prescription of narcotic pain medication from the Immediate Care Doctor. Once he saw that medication in my med rec...I was immediately treated like a drug seeker. Aggressively told me that if I was having 10/10 pain then I needed to be in an ER..and not in his office. Keep in mind...this was AS SOON AS HE WALKED IN. He did not even give me the chance to explain my symptoms without interrupting me at every breath. That is an example of BAD bedside manner. The only thing that office visit did for me was raise my blood pressure 50 points. This left me very apprehensive about being seen in the emergency department at NCWH.However, with all of that being said, I am so happy that I went to NWCH ED and that my pain is now under control. I have not had an episode since I received that injection. All it took was an understanding and receptive physician to make me feel better. Thank you so much Tiffany! You are a blessing to the medical world! Thank you NWCH for providing me with outstanding patient care through my nurses, techs, and physician at NWCH. I went from 0% to almost 100%. Thank you!
If I could give less than one star I definitely would this is a horrible place to go if you are looking for care they have zero patience for sick people a nurse threatened to kick my husband out of the hospital because he was moaning in pain even though no doctor nurse or anyone on the team would see him. Receptionist said that she does not have time to help us which makes me curious what her job is if she does not help people who need to check in to the hospital. Zero empathy for people in pain nurses talk to you as if they are doing a favor for you and not as if it is their job to figure out what is wrong with you and why you are in pain. We expressed our extreme disappointment in the hospital to the nurse that checked us out and the nurse practitioner who saw us and told them we will never come back and they said OK don’t come back. ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE
My husband had to go to the ER. It was not a long wait to get a room and be seen by a doctor like most ER’s are. The ER doctor was really nice. We only stayed a couple of hours because they decided my husband didn’t have to stay overnight. They just wanted to my husband to feel better before we went home. Once we got there we were in a room in the ER in about 20 minutes.
If I could give this hospital negative stars, I would. Ive never experienced such disrespect, terrible beside manner, or attitude in my life. People go into this hospital in hopes of being treated well and to be taken care of - they leave in worse shape than they came in, if they even leave at all. Youre medical professionals for Gods sake. I would never trust you with one of my loved ones again. When my Ma went to NWCH, she told the doctor that she wanted to be around for her kids and her grandkids. Want to know what the doctor said to her? I quote, Your kids are in their 50s, if they still need you, theres a problem. The doctor thought we left the room, but we just stepped outside and could still her the conversation. You shouldve heard the way she was talking to our Ma. Then said to us, Id be surprised if she makes it to Valentines Day. The doctor had no heart, no sympathy, and I couldnt believe what came out of her mouth.Ive now lost 3 of my closest family members, all who were under the care of NWCH for different reasons, and 1 who didnt make it home. Do yourself a favor and choose a different hospital.*Please notice how they respond to reviews that have 5 stars and those related to billing. Then, see their responses to 1 star reviews -- its a template that they copy and paste. It starts off by saying, Hi (First Name). We are sorry to hear about your experience. Quality patient care is always very important to us and we strive to deliver an excellent healthcare experience. The NCH Patient Relations Team is interested in hearing more about your experience. No individual or heartfelt responses, much like those who work there.
Being a referral consultant for seniors in retirement living options I am very educatedOn hospitals and emergency roomadmits and all the language surrounding observation vs admitted as well as being ableTo ask a lot of clinical questions. My own parent was admitted today and in the ER for 7 hours getting tests and being monitored for an advanced uti and sepsis. She was tested for a stroke. The ER admission process was speedy and all of the nurses and Drs amazing and paid a lot of attention to our concerns. DrMatt Jordan was amazing in the ER along with nurse Matt and Rob.The hospital has 350 beds and they were full. It took aLong time to get her a bed but they did and were sure to have her needs met before the transfer. Never saw an admission there before and was never in a hospital room either.
Had some hard times here, and the hospital staff helped me through them. They were slow with the medications at times, no one had explained to me that you have to request medications in order for them to be given to you. After numerous visits I was the one who learned how the hospital and my health worked and adapted my understanding of what they could do and dont do. Staff was patient and took a good deal of care explaining how things worked. Doctors seemed very stressed. I havent been to other hospitals so I have nothing to compare them against, Im just grateful Im fine now and I have this hospital to thank.
I would not recommend NCH for your child’s high risk level of care. The ER did their best but the pediatric floor dropped the ball after a few days. They never notified our pediatric physician that our son was admitted, after being there for a few days one of the physicians dropped the ball and was never there at hand off. When we transferred to Lurie Children’s Hospital , NCH hospital never followed up with us on the complaints we filed with administration. We never got a press ganey survey. Very disappointed. Not only could they not communicate in person they couldn’t communicate after we chose to leave. I’m giving them 1 star because of the numerous errors and for their lack of communication.
I woke up one night with sudden intense back pain. I made my way to the hospital and the check in process was quick and easy and I got into a bet quickly so that was nice. I waited for a while for a nurse to come in when she finally did she drew my blood and got the needle set for my IV and said shed be back in 2 minutes with pain medication, IV, etc. I waited 30 minutes which would have been fine because I try to be patient because I realize I was in the ER but I was so dehydrated from my throwing up on the way there that all I wanted was a water due to not having my IV in to hydrate me. I paged a nurse who told me my nurse wouldnt give me a water and still had to wait another 15 minutes from there for her to come in and finally hook me up. After a CAT scan they told me I had kidney stones which was fine but after I left and talked to other people about their experience with kidney stones they told me that I should have been much more informed as far as how long it will take, how big my stones are, etc. I got a hand out about the UTI they diagnosed me with but not about the larger issue, the kidney stones. I just wish they informed me better at least tried to act like they cared.
Coming from a trauma 1 500+ hospital, and working there for 37 yrs. I can honestly say. My experience as a patient in the NW Community ER was completely unprofessional. Non personalable, and total nonrespect for pts and their needs. I was put into a closet with no call button for 3 hrs without seeing a physician or nurse. I finally had to go to the bathroom. So I called my son to call the front desk to help me. I had torn my hamstring in several places. I finally took it in my own hands to attempt the bathroom. That is when I decided to leave. NOONE cared. They didnt even take my insurance info no IV fluids and they they wouldnt let me drink until the dr. Came. I never saw one dr. In the ER. They didnt even care if I left, so I did. ABSOLUTEY no compassion nor acknowledgement that a patient was suffering in the closet. Im so glad that I live in state with healthcare is at its highest standards and that All patients matter. And for Gods sake acknowledge them!
Good hospital. Great staff and attending physicians. Our two children and five grandchildren were each born at Northwest Community Hospital which has seen us through every kind of life situation from beginning to end of life. We seek physicians who are affiliated with this hospital and appreciate that all then have access to our medical histories. We are thankful to have such good care so close to home.
Want to thank the ER Dr. who was so kind, caring and listened well to the problem we were having & the reason we were there, no rushing, that was a pleasant change form the kind of care rendered today, and yes, they were very busy and we even had to wait & receive IV antibiotic in the hallway in ER,but they were attentive and kind today. I will say this, when these hospitals expand, why oh why are they not putting the resources and updates in the ER dept.? this is needed at this hospital in a big way....Next, one still needs to know there health history very well, or at least have someone with them if possible who does, these health care providers today are so rushed, and have to be so concerned about insurances and such that this gets in the way of quality health care which should always come first no matter what, never mind spending $$$$$$ on clever ads and marketing trying to convince the public that there health care is #1. Prove it, put the money into the resources the hosp. needs especially in there RNs, Tech.s CNAs etc. thats so important. Its amazing how many of these people have no problem letting patients & family members know how unhappy & dissatisfied they are with there working environment, mostly comes down to management, no kidding...All that said, we still were blessed, YES, blessed to have had some of the nicest and most caring RNs Tech.s CNAs and Dr.s on board. Some weve known from times past, and a few very new to us. There are still a few Dr.s who still need a lesson in common courtesy and need a course or two in the art of listening & acknowledging that believe it or not the patient does indeed know themselves well enough to give info. and should be believed instead of doubted, then receiving care that becomes another problem, have had this happen as well, the arrogance of some of these people is not helpful or needed, leave the ego at home. Our experience on the Ortho. floor was good, the best part of the time spent at this hosp. was the IN HOUSE REHAB, this was impressive. We are no strangers to PT/OT Rehab, and have had some of the best the NW suburbs has to offer, from RIC to others, this ranked very high on our list. First of all Thank you Dr. Pappa, very, very compassionate & caring Dr. thank you also to the awesome rehab RNs, CNAs & PT & OT therapists. this was most impressive, seeing how these people all came together & worked so well together for the common good of the patient, never missed a beat. This is how it should be.
I have been using Dr. Christian Daniels as my PCP for many years. I have since moved to Marengo which makes it hard to drive into Buffalo Grove. I was thinking about changing doctors. Then this summer I had some complicated medical issues. Dr. Daniels went above and beyond to treat my condition. He called me late in the day and on his day off if needed. He is a true professional! I have no reason to change my PCP. Thank you Doctor!
Now that the new areas are finished the rooms are much more private and comfortable. Several improvements were evident. White board with your care persons names and when you took your last meds and what they were. Meals were improved. Guests could also get a meal ordered.I did find it quite noisy at night with garbage and laundry and every kind of cart run down the hall ways. The workers had a room to visit and get conversant and they also left by a close by door. It was very noisy and seemed more so than day time. All persons were pleasant and helpful and those checking in and directing you to your destination were also helpful. It is a large and confusing place and so many places to have to park.to get where you needed to be. Thank you for a good visit and stay.
Kudos to the Northwest Community Hospital GI lab which I just visited for the third time, in the past 12 years, for a screening colonoscopy. Each person I encountered, from the GI techs to the RNs and the physicians, were, as usual, professional, patient centered, thoughtful and extremely competent. I had a neighbor, growing up many years ago in Wilmette, who had a horrific experience involving a psychiatrist at NWCH and never forget her description of the longitudinal incidents in question. Years later, however, my excellent PCP is privileged here and, because of the trust and confidence I have in him. I go where he tells me. Ten years ago he referred me to Michael Hersh, M.D. who is a thorough, kind, caring and very thoughtful individual. Colonoscopies are necessary evils at my age and in light of my family history and as long as I am with colon I will continue making use of this institutions exemplary services.
Very disappointed in my emergency room visit yesterday. I was there not once but twice in twelve hours. And I still dont know whats going on.The first time, I went in at 6:30am, pretty sure it was during a shift change. Sat in the waiting room for an hour. Finally got brought back to a very creepy looking room that even had the nurse go why did they put you in here? The second time, waited in the waiting room for nearly two hours before being seen. Had similar symptoms to an older gentleman who came in but guess who was seen first. Dont get me starts on the nurse I had. She seemed new or something. Didnt even put my blood pressure cuff on right. It was more wrapped around my elbow.. still in alot of pain but Id rather deal with the pain than go back there.
Elderly mother was taken into the emergency room. Very difficult to call in and get updates on her condition. Encountered being put on hold for over 20 minutes, after which I finally gave up. Then finally managed to get to someone, Vail, who transferred me to Sierra, who then transferred me to Maggie. Maggie was extremely rude and inappropriate!! Director of nursing for emergency room, you need to do better!!
My last experience here was horrible. I was inpatient a few times over a week. The last time I went back (at the advice of the Dr office that took care of me the first time) for the same reason the er doctor wouldnt listen at all. I gave them information on my new Dr and new meds but never recorded the information. Then I couldnt get proper pain management because according to my record from being admitted I took my pain medicine as offered every 2 hours. So of course now Im an addict because I took what was prescribed by doctor. If the original Dr thought I was taking to much why didnt he change the amount or time in between doses? I was admitted for 3 days and then again 4 days. If Im in pain and offered the meds Im taking them. But to deny me proper care because of notes when I was admitted is wrong. I praised this hospital until that happened.
My fifteen year old had a day surgery at NCH last week. We were so pleased with the excellent staff and facilities. They were so kind to my nervous son and explained everything very well to him and to us. It is also a beautiful hospital with an excellent cafeteria!Overall, NCH staff helped our family through a scary procedure. We are very grateful.
The Dr.’s are great. The ER staff that checks you in (Margret) has absolutely NO empathy, sympathy much less a professional attitude. The staff and management should be ashamed of themselves. Margret is rude and disrespectful and obviously doesn’t care or like her job. Management at the hospital should take a real hard look at who they put at the face of your hospital. Maybe if they did a better job at that, the hospital might get better ratings.Shame on you Margret and Northwest Community Hospital. When the receptionist is giving her opinion on what a patient should do without any background that is stepping over the line. When a human being comes in for help they shouldn’t be belittled and humilated.Do Not go to this ER
If you are conscious or not dead never choose this place. when my wife was taken to the ER from work I rushed into to this place from my work. A muscle man like lady stopped me at the door before I talk to my wife and asked how I am going to make my co-payment. I didnt like her way of taking and I gave my credit card and she just walked out and never wanted to offer me even a receipt. When i spoke to my wife she said she is in real pain and crying for the past 10 minutes and not even a call light was offered to her. It is US and not a 3rd world country. When I approached the lady who took my credit card for my receipt, she started talking to a man there in some (European) foreign language and he was laughing at me. I used to like this place but.. it is no longer a hospital.
Checked in to the emergency room for extreme food poisoning. Was vomiting for several hours in a row. I asked them for some blankets cause I was freezing and it was super cold in the emergency room. The nurse just put some folded blankets on me like it was supposed to help. Meanwhile they could not find a vein and barely were able to get an IV going. Then they stuck me 5 times trying to find a vein( digging around inside). I was surprised because it was never an issue before but patiently waited while they made the attempts. They said they would try later. I was pressing the nurse button for 30 minutes with no answer they just kept canceling the call. I started to yell that I needed help. The nurse came back and could not find a vein again. After I asked her to give me blanket she once again threw one on top of me that was folded and did not cover me. I had to get up off the bed and make my own bed and blankets. I asked them for water and they said they couldnt do that because they didnt know whats wrong with me. Then another nurse came in to draw blood and stuck me another four times hitting a nerve in my left arm and causing me to jerk in pain( its still messed up 5 days later). But the nurse got mad and yelled at me for jerking my arm.... What? I was shocked I asked her maybe it was because she hit a nerve thats why I jerked my arm. She said I was treating her badly etc. Said I had caused her to stab herself with the needle. I asked to see where it was, she wasnt able to show me where she got stabbed. I asked her to leave. She told the doctor I did not want my blood to be taken( a lie!). Then another nurse walked in and was able to get vein with the first try. Why do they employ such heartless poorly trained nurses? Why? I hate that hospital I hate that company. I would not recommend this hospital to anyone. In my opinion it should not be used for anything serious or used for anything.
Never choose this service provider. If there was a 0 on the rating I would give it, but there is not. I keep receiving hospital bill even though I am insured and everything was done through the correct procedures. My insurance company tells me they have never received a claim, but those idiots keep sending the bill to a wrong department. Even tough I provided them to correct address phone numbers they refuse to send the claim to the correct department. So the bill is staying on my table
Had a hysterectomy done with laparoscopic! Surgery went well so the doctor tried to force me to go home! Had a partial hysterectomy done some years ago and was kept over night for observation and the pain was brutal! So I didn’t want to go home and face that right away! As a result of my pushing to stay overnight, mind you my insurance had already told me I was covered for 3 days, she rudely said to me “you will not get pain meds through your IV and you will have to get up and move around!” Really you just poked 5 holes in me and this is the treatment I get in return! I should have went back to where I had this procedure done before! Alcoholics and drug addicted patients get better service than this! I’m really disappointed for the second time with this hospital!
I was brought to the ER at NWC hospital yesterday after I slipped and fell on black ice, and my friend and the gentleman that does valet at the hospital assisted me into a wheelchair. When I was wheeled to the front desk by my friend crying of pain from the injury to my ankle and hip , the two ladies that had ABSOLUTELY no empathy, ask questions to register me, my friend had to go back and park the car, so I tried in between squeals to answer questions. One of the ladies from the desk just wheeled me to the waiting area and didn’t explain anything..There were two ladies that was waiting on their ride and one of them walked over to me in the wheelchair and said “let me raise this up so that your ankle could be elevated” and she assisted me ....but not the nurses behind the desk. The ladies in triage was just as cold and showed no sympathy either.Let me say there weren’t anyone else but one patient in the waiting area who also seemed to genuinely be concern with my injury. It appeared everyone was caring but the staff here.NOT THE ONES WHO WERE SUPPOSED TO BE CONCERNED AND CARING!The male PA who treated me but made sure he stayed far away from me did a very good job posing as a not nice doctor. And that’s putting it mildly. He down played my pain and questioned my injuries. They didn’t apply ice to my very swollen ankle and hip area. My friend who was with me had to do it.I must say though that the x-ray techs were the only ones that was genuinely caring and gentle and kind and concerned. It was three(3) ladies , two who did the x-ray on my ankle/foot and one who did the x-ray on my hip.But I will asked to be taken elsewhere instead of here. I will never allow that PA to treat me again because I will make sure I’m never taken there again.
My experience with NCH was wonderful. I had surgery last week and was well taken care of before during and after the surgery. All who attended to me from admission to recovery met all my needs and answered any question I or my husband had about the surgery and recovery period. I would definitely recommend the hospital and its professional staff for any health care needs.
Worst ER experience ever. My husband was brought in by ambulance for confusion and out of the ordinary behavior. We were there 9 hrs and not once did we see a doctor. I had to ask for the results of his test. Nobody came into the room to give us the results. Needed a urine sample but never pushed to get it since my husband was sleeping. I had to get get it for them by waking him. Guess they never thought of that. Nothing showed up on any test so he had to be evaluated by the Psych Liaison and her recommendation was to go to out patient therapy M-F for 3 hrs and see a psychiatrist. My husband has never had depression so why??? Well maybe they should have looked at the list of meds I gave them. One of the side effects of a new med he was taking is strange behaviors and hallucinations. 9 hrs and a whole lot of money I’ll never get back. Shame on you NWC ER!! I truly don’t think they care and definitely have no compassion for the sick. One nurse cared and that is why I dug deeper to find the issue. Thank you Katie on the 7:00 PM shift. Thanks for caring!
I was having severe chest pains and was having difficulty breathing one morning. I waited a while, took my asthma medicine and used my inhaler. After an hour I called 911. They came immediately, checked me out and recommended going to the nearest emergency care facility, the Northwest Community Hospital emergency room. I was seen for evaluation by a doctor and then they ran some tests for possible heart involvement. I received a breathing treatment from a respiratory therapist. All tests came back negative, so I was released in a few hours to see my own doctor about my asthma medication. My treatment at NCH was quite thorough and the 911 staff were very efficient.
I was admitted in this hospital on 1/21/2017 at 3.30 am. The treatment was good, staff was good and I was ready to discharge on 1/26/2017. While taking back my stuff I realized that I lost $940. As explained before I was admitted at 3.30 and I was sleepy as I was in emergency room before and was on medication. I was not present when the lady worker (her name is diamond) was checking my stuff. And then they gave me a list to sign. There were 9 cards in my bag so I saw that c as cash and 9 as $900 (since I was sleepy). Then comes the drama no body was bothered about money and said May be I lost it out side which was not true. When I was trying to talk to my peers in Hospital they stoped me. The lead nurse told me she will inform director and work with patient Advocate but nothing happened. I waited and called them but no response. If you guys really care about your patients you should work on it. I lost other things too but I dont want to tell as its very pity things. Hope you guys help me!
The doctors and nurses are great but the main hospital billing and admin staff don’t care about service. Every time I have called billing to find out about a bill that either I couldn’t understand or I did not receive, they are completely confused. They put you on hold, transfer you from one office to another and they try to point out how wrong I was - and I amsomeone who pays all my bills on time. I pay and complete all correspondence to my doctors office through the MyChart system. However, the billing department has no clue how mychart works or how to reconcile the bills there with the service provider. They look up different systems and tell me that since I don’t owe them anything, they can’t find me in the system! After much discussion and several reps I finally got them to send a physical bill to me. They never bothered to explain the bills or to follow up with a call or message. If it wasn’t for the great service from my cardiologist, I would have chosen another hospital in a heartbeat “no pun intended”!
My son had a tonsillectomy here Friday. That went well day surgery staff is the best! Hes coughing up blood, so we called the ENT and he said to go to the ER to see him. Were at the ER. Been here for HOURS as he bleeds from the throat. Asked several times how much longer till hes seen, got the response that people have been waiting for 4hours and we just need to wait our turn to be seen. Hes bleeding from his throat, you would think that would give the ER staff a sense of urgency. Here we sit. This place is a joke.Update...The ENT doc from our office, Dr. Clark, came down and said he had been waiting for us and NO ONE notified him that we were there! We waited for HOURS because none of the check in staff took initiative to LISTEN to us. I specifically told them that we called the ENT and he advised us to come to the ER and see him!!!! He graciously and apologetically took us up to his office to further examine our son. Turns out his scab came off. He gave us the OK to leave, walked us back to the ER and told them we dont need to wait to be seen by the ER staff and hes given us the OK to leave. We were never even seen in the ER!Then comes time for check out. Theyre making a big deal about how he wasnt seen, but is being discharged. These were the doctors directions, what is the big deal? My son left to take his medicine and they insisted that I cant check him out because hes technically an adult. Nancy P., the RN at the check in counter is rude, and obnoxious, and could care less what I had to say. She ran to the other room making calls and talking to the other staff because she didnt know how to code it, she was obviously flustered and frustrated. The kind girl that sits next to her told me to just go, theyll figure it out.My original post was spot on, this place is a joke!2nd update....I saw the post from the hospital about my review and how they take things seriously and would like to discuss my horrendous visit further and to please give them a call. So I did. Last week I talked to a lady briefly when she cut me off and said she was new and couldnt help me, I need to talk to Julie but she was in vacation and to call back next week. Ok, I called Monday, no return call. I called today, Tuesday, still no return call. They obviously dont care about anything here. Next call is to the hospital administrator. Like I said, THIS PLACE IS A JOKE.
I was just there for a Nissen fundoplaction and the doctors and nurses were absolutely fantastic! Dr. Chimelewski and Dr. Hector Martinez were so knowledgeable and really took the time to explain everything to me and address my questions and concerns. The surgery went great and while the recovery is taxing I’m optimistic about the end result. Everything is moving along exactly as the Doctors and Nurses said it would. The Nurses there are fantastic as well. I had two in particular Michelle and Rosita that were beyond wonderful. They always checked in on me and helped all they could. They made what could have been an uncomfortable experience much more pleasant!
I was admitted to the Emergency Room at Northwest Community Hospital, in Arlington Heights, on June 5th, and from there to the ICU until June 6th, and in a regular room until I was discharged on June 9th. All the staff was attentive, professional, caring, and of great comfort to me. In the Emergency Room, several blood tests quickly revealed my problem, which then was clearly explained to me. I was then sent to the ICU where Katie, Lolita and Rachel were wonderful nurses for me and my needs. In my normal room, Amie was terrific, and a dear nurse whose name I have forgotten, but who wore wonderful French perfume (I hope she knows who I mean) was like a super-Mom to me. The menu people were all cheerful and helpful, and my call button always was answered promptly. Thank you, NCH!
I have waited over a year to make this post in the hopes that an out of network billing issue would be resolved with the help of the hospital. Unfortunately I haven’t received the resolution I hoped for and I want others to be aware of this practice. I was hospitalized with some life threatening issues for about a week in spring of 2018 with a total bill of over $54,000. My insurance is BCBS which is in the hospital network. Upon my return home I received 2 billings from Critical Care Physicians, an out of network provider in the amount of $1951. They stated that the care was for a nurse practitioner that supposedly attended to me when I was in ICU. BCBS paid only $346 of the $1951. I wrote letters to Critical Care Physicians. I wrote letters including all documents to Stephen Scogna, the President of the hospital, as well as several Customer Relations Specialists, all to no avail. It was VERY disturbing that no one from the office of the president responded! That is just disrespectful. Finally, I received a call from someone in Patient Financial Solutions almost 10 months later. He told me he couldn’t understand the billing and contacted Critical Care Physicians to request a refund for the $442 I had already paid. Over six weeks later I still haven’t received a refund or any explanation from the hospital. I just want people to be aware of this out of network billing practice.
The main hospital is extremely well run, the staff pleasant, and the nurses and others often go above and beyond their call of duty to make patients comfortable. ER waits are very short. The food is pretty good and you can order off the extensive menu any time and as often as you like between 6:30AM and 6:30PM.
Omg I wish Id found this hospital before. The ER room was an actual room, not just all separated by curtains. The doctor and staff were great (well there was one nurse who wasnt so much, but nothing is perfect). Too bad this is a bit of a drive, but its worth it. Totally not going to the other ones closer to me ever again., in Schaumburg area.
If I coud this hospital one star I would. ER does get 5 stars but the staff on 3 East gets a negative amount of stars. I am the patient advocate for my 87 year old father. He was admitted with pneumonia on Sunday October 7, 2018. He also has his caregivers with him 24/7 in the hospital. He has dementia and was not marked as a high fall risk. No yellow sign on his hospital door, no alarm on his chair and bed alarm not on. I also had to ask for the yellow non skid socks that indicate high fall risk. Staff was instructed by me to call before giving a new med or performing a test. 2 tests were done without my consent and a waste of medicare $$$$. I just hope you do not kill my dad or he does not fall trying to get up by himself when the caregivers go the bathroom or get something to eat. An 87 year old with dementia does not understand how to press a call button!!!!!! I am sure medicare and your insurance company would not be happy about not identifying high fall risk patients. The hospital is a lawsuit waiting to happen.
I went in to the er with bad abdominal pain, they admitted me and kept me for 4 days. No food no water. Ran test after test and found nothing. Billed my insurance almost $50,000!!!! Now they want several thousand more from me! I was released with no diagnostic other than “possible stomach bug!” They even tried to stick a tube through my nose and into my stomach. A little extreme!!! Ripped my sinuses apart in the presses!!!! Worst experience of my life! Staff was unprofessional and the facility was filthy!!!
We did not have a positive experience at the pediatric unit. I took my 3 year old girl there because she had severe cold symptoms that were very distressing. My baby was very upset when we got there (especially having not slept all night and feeling ill). The female doc on duty was horrible. My daughter was screaming and she asked why is she crying, hasnt she been to the doctors before? After I went over all symptoms of my daughter, she asked why we had come, even though I explained everything. She was not gentle or explain anything. There was another nurse who was just horrible too, I believe she had a Russian accent. Only 1 nurse was amazing as it should be, especially in a pediatric practice. Dont work with children if you cant be nice. I will try my best to never ever again take my baby there. Seriosly learn how to hande kids or find another job where its ok to be a jerk. Turns out my daughter has the flu, and it would be so much easier to deal with if the doctors were nice.
If you have nothing better to do than wait, go here. I made an appointment for a simple blood test. I arrived 15 minutes early and went thru registration easily. Was then taken to the lab waiting area and left after 40 minutes because my lunch period was ending. Thats almost one hour for a simple blood draw that I didnt even get. Im going to have my doctor send the order to Quest. If you make an appointment there ,you are done in about 20 minutes.
I had my baby Girl on November 19, 2018 and I will say the whole experience was very interesting. When I first arrived to the emergency room doors a man came out, helped me to get into the wheel chair and wheeled me to the front desk. I notice it was only one person there which was tall and skinny young man that asked me why I was there. I told him my water broke a hour ago while i was at home. So he got up and wheeled me a couple of feet away from the desk and told me someone will come out these door to come get me, lol. These people had me waiting so long that my mother had time to park my car and walk into the hospital to find me still siting by the doors waiting. 5-10 mins went by and thats when my mother ask the young man where is labor and delivery and this kid had the nerve to catch an attitude. He told us well I heard when she called them so idk what to tell you guys. Remind you my water broke, I lost my mucus plug, and I having contractions. So both my mom and I said it at the same time can yall call them again. Guess what this time when they called a nurse came down less than a min to get me. We finally get upstairs and I wonder why these people took so long because everybody was huddle up talking and laughing. I guess since they only delivered one baby that day my situation wasnt important. The one star goes to how fast they moved to get me the epidural and the nurse Lily because she was amazing even doe she was in training. Lily was so amazing that when it came down to checking to see how much I dilated it barely hurted and she took good care of me thru my labor and delivery. Once I got the epidural I thought everything would be good... I guess I was wrong because I was still able to feel my bottom half. So which means I felt my baby rip me( front and back) and I also felt my Dr. stitching me up( luckily it was only 2 stitches each rip). Just to put the cherry on the cupcake when my discharge day came November 21st the Indian lady that took my blood had the nerve to tell me if Im able to read Ill be able to see the needle she wanted to use was the same size as the butterfly one. This hospital has went down since 2011 the year I had my son there and I would never go back or recommend this hospital to a friend.
Worst hospital experience ever! Hospital is a gold digger! We went to ER at night because my wife had some pains in her stomach. She is pregnant and visited her doctor that same morning. Her doctor told her everything is fine and did all the necessary tests. However, in ER, they did the same tests for 10 hours instead of calling her doctor and consulting with her, didnt give her any water, she was in pain the whole time. After they were done with tests, they didnt see anything and sent her home in pain. No explanation, no compassion, no human interaction. If you have an emergency do not go to this Northwest Community Hospital.
I have been a patient of Doctor Ferber for the past 20 years. I have had certain serious medical issues for most of that time. I have yet to find a better Doctor or a better place to see him. NCH has been and continues to be the very best at all around medical care. I have found the people who surround him top notch. They are all friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. I wouldnt want to go anyplace else. The very best care anywhere.
I have used NCH on numerous occasions, for things such as routine mammograms as well as for more non-routine surgeries for me and my husband .Most recently I went to the ER there for an xray following a fall. I have always found the care I receive there to be excellent and the physicians, nurses and other staff to be efficient and caring. I highly recommend.
My experiences with NCH have been absolutely wonderful until the last one. My surgery was scheduled for Nov. 22. I was told to come to the hospital the Thursday before for blood tests. Had the blood tests. Then I received a call telling me that I had to come back to the hospital on Monday for blood tests. This was supposed to be for type and cross match. Asked why this wasnt part of the blood tests I already had. Was told that the type and cross match had to be done within 3 days of surgery. Went back and had the blood tests. The hospital called on Tuesday evening telling me that I had to be at the hospital by 5:30 instead of 6. Was at the hospital at 5:30. Went through all the pre-op procedures. Then a nurse came in and tested my blood sugar. The result was it was too high for surgery that day. Sent home at 10:30 am. My problem is after 10-12 tubes of blood, how come no one at the lab looked at my information, saw that I have been a diabetic for over 10 years and didnt think that maybe it would be a good idea to take one small drop of all that blood and test it for blood sugar. Very disappointed!
From the moment of registration to the time of surgery, the front desk staff, nurses and doctors were all very professional and addressed all our questions and needs. They were kind and compassionate and a reflection of a top-notch hospital. There were no negative experiences.
If you have to be in a hospital then NW Community is a great one to be in. I cant say enough about all the doctors and nurses there. They are all so knowledgeable and caring and make a rough experience a more pleasant one.Everything is state of the art and I just get the feeling I am getting the best care possible. Even though I live a lot closer to St. Alexius I dont mind driving the extra miles to have all my medical needs taken care of at NCH.
My family and I have been affiliated with Northwest Community Healthcare as patients since moving to Illinois in 1974. Over the years, NCH has advanced in medicine and the latest technologies, but has never lost its compassion, care, and treating you like family. Both the staff and the facility is top notch. We have been so impressed over the years with this hospital that we are now volunteering. I will not hesitate to refer family and friends to NCH.
On March 8th I came home from my 2nd job and felt a sore throat coming on. By Saturday the 10th My doctor could not see me until the 26th. I was dizzy, coughing terribly and stayed in bed till Wednesday. I went back to work but By then my cough became worse and nothing I took over the counter seemed to help. I went on line and on Thursday went to the NW Community Healthcare off of Rand road they instantly welcomed me into the walk in healthcare. The lady at the front desk was warm, thoughtful and knowledgeable. I saw the doctor within 15 min. I had my chest x-rayed and found it was bronchitis and very contagious (I was given a mask upon entry) I was given medication and a slip I needed to be home until 26th with a follow up with a visit by my doctor. I was very grateful that this is a place I can go immediately until I can get in to see you physician. Thank you Northwest Community.
In my opinion, NCH is contributing to what is wrong with healthcare in this country. I always thought that after over 40 years as a customer, with 2 children being born at the hospital, that NCH was above the fray of profits at any cost. Let me review my most recent encounter that has left me with a very jaded attitude. On the afternoon of September 20, 2017 I visited our family physician about a problem I was having with swelling that was close to the corner of my eye. I had been dealing with this issue for about 5 days at this place in time. My physician, upon examination was extremely concerned and advised me to go to the ER immediately, as she was quite concerned about the location of the bump and the infectious nature of the swelling. She said and I quote you need to see a General surgeon immediately and no you cannot wait until tomorrow, as I tried to negotiate. Being the good patient that I am, I left the office for the ER and arrived in 15 minutes. Upon check-in I explained to the person at the desk why I was there and that my Dr. wanted me to see a General surgeon and was sending over an order. The waiting room at the time contained about 10 patients. I was called within 10 minutes and was extremely grateful at the time. When I got to the examination room, what I assumed was a CNA took my BP and heartrate. Meanwhile, what I presumed to be a RN was looking at the bump/infection. I explained to her why I was there and that my Dr. wanted me to see a General surgeon. She informed me there was nothing they could do now, that I would have to call for an appointment for a General surgeon. She said meanwhile they were going tp prescribe an antibiotic for the infection and an anti-inflammatory to control the swelling. I was in the examination room for a total of 5 minutes maximum and was directed to another room where I was told to wait for the prescription. After over 20 minutes I inquired as to the holdup and was told I was going to be given a dose before I left , which I presumed was going to be a shot. Imagine my surprise when 10 minutes later another (what I assumed was a nurse) came in with a half a cup of water and a pill. I asked what it was and she said an anti -inflammatory. I swallowed it down and asked her where the antibiotic was. At this she pulled 2 more pills out of her lab coat and said and I quote oh yeah. I had to ask her for more water. Keep in mind I was going to have the prescription filled at my pharmacy within 30 minutes and it was very obvious to me what had just occurred. Northwest Community Healthcare had an opportunity to bill my very good insurance company as much as they thought they could justify. My bill statement of hospital and provider services arrived recently and my suspicions were confirmed. My insurance company was billed $667.00 to see a nurse practitioner, not even a M.D., for 5 minutes and $9.48 for pharmacy. Keep I mind I paid $8.00 for the full prescription 30 minutes later. And as an exclamation to this miserable ordeal I am being billed personally $150 for co-payment!!!!The next day I saw a general surgeon and he did an office procedure that took all of 5 minutes. I asked why this could not have been done when I was in the ER less then 18 hours earlier, and he had no idea. To make matters even worse, I had to absorb another co-pay.Does one really wonder why healthcare costs are deemed to be out of control? I for one am absolutely fed up.....
In general my experience this evening was ok. I normally prefer this hospital over the two closer to me because the staff is usually great courteous and compassionate. When I was hospitalized May 10th for a broken sternum due to a car accident I received great care. A week later I had intense sharp pain in my left chest and couldnt breathe and went back in case the hematoma that had formed was back or worse. That night everything checked out but they gave me a great explanation for the pain stating everything surrounding the sternum is overcompensating. Fast forward to this past evening. I realize its been about three weeks since the accident but was told my fracture on average is a 6-8 week healing period at minimum so I think it would quite possible to still be in a good amount of pain at times. Tonight I was at a point where I couldnt breathe very well and every breath was agony in my chest. I felt like someone was pulling my chest apart inside and I just couldnt get control of my breath. Well Im glad that the tests came back normal I dont feel it was necessary for the dr to ask more than once and in the end tell me maybe it was just anxiety or meet with my pulmonary dr to get a plan going. Also she seemed surprised that my sternum injury was still hurting and hadnt reallY healed. I am fully aware Im over weight however I do eat right and walk and move as much as I can with a broken sternum. I am taking every possible step I can to help get my weight down at the moment in a comfortable manner that also doesnt put extra risk on injuring my sternum. The discharge nurse was extremely rude and dismissive of my current injuries and situation and literally told me well you know just maybe start eating right and making healthier choices and start getting some exercise to get your weight under control the usual stuff they will tell you to do. My diet was never asked they dont know my dietary habits so that was completely inappropriate and to tell someone with a broken sternum to start exercising more seriously?! And then she proceeded to ask me if I could walk out by myself ok or do I really think I need a wheelchair. I thought it was a rule we had to be wheeled out especially since I was given morphine while there for the pain and couldnt risk falling. I left that hospital in tears because of the way the dr and discharge nurse treated me and spoke to me. Highly inappropriate obviously did not pay attention to medical history and made assumptions on my looks alone. Its the first time I had wished I had gone to a different hospital and just might next time.
Hospital stay was good, however was not informed that a consultant was see me, then after hospital stay there billing (North Hollywood IPC) sent my bill as not insured. Consultant doctor sent my bill to HRRG collections. Was never sent a bill from them. They did not have doctors information and contact information. I feel that it was very poor service in the billing and doctors billing. If there consultants did this to me how many people do they do it to and why does the hospital allow it to happen.
Excellence in all areas except one... There is totally insufficient parking at Building 3 (Day Surgery). Not one space available (9 car convoy searching) in the indoor facility and none in the (very small) outdoor lot. We were totally unprepared to spend at least 1/2 hour searching (missing our scheduled check-in appointment). At the desk, we were informed that there is valet help (no signage an not informed during pre-appointment phone call). All this inconvenience quickly evaporates because of the efficient and professional and warm treatment from check-in onward.
My wife delivered twins at NWC in November of last year. The nurses did a great job of coaching us through the entire project. We also took their Lamaze class prior to the birth. It was extremely helpful and the teacher was amazing. My only complaint is that their cafeteria has almost no food on the weekends! The food that they did have wasnt great.
This hospital is horrible. I was 8 1/2 mnths pregnant and went into false labor. I had a doctor and a nurse tell me that I couldnt have a natural vaginal birth if my baby was 10lbs or more and no doctor will do that delivery, I must have a c-section. I said absolutely not, if my child is not in danger, I want. Natural Vaginal birth. The nurse asked if I knew how many lawsuits were filed and than she asked if the baby arm gets jammed what could they do. I told them to take me off the IV I was leaving immediately. The doctor continued to say how dangerous my delivery would be. I explained both my previoud children were over 10lbs and I never had a doctor tell me no to my request to deliever vaginal. I left and went to AMITA in Hoffman Estates. NCH needs to educated their doctors and nurses. Not to push for a more expensive procedure. Oh yes, it us all about the money! C-sections cost almost triple!!! Plus after research this hospital has a lot of MRSA and Staff infection cases, so not only is the staff undereducated, they also dont wash their hands after using facilities!!!!
Do not go here! Over medicated my mother and put her into a stroke like stay. The ER doctor was more concerned with answering calls from his wife regarding what she was bringing him for dinner then listening to my mother. She ended up being there for a week and each staff member we came across told us they would never even come to this hospital. Run!
I have been a patient through the NCH group for many years. I have found that they have made amazing changes over the years, specifically with regards to their customer care. From their labs to their day surgery, the difference is incredible. I applaud their efforts to ensure that their care has become holistic and compassionate to the patient care and the family support system.
I honestly dont think their billing department knows what theyre doing at all. The first time I went here to get a few labs done, I paid the bill they sent me. A few weeks later, I get a call saying that my check bounced, despite having plenty of funds, and the amount I owed was somehow less than I originally paid. That is not how check bouncing works. It was a nightmare to get them to accept any payment I sent them, and I got numerous harrassing phone calls but they couldnt be bothered to resend the bill until I demanded it, several months later? And I just got a letter telling me I owe them money from a previous ER visit, despite the fact that my bank statement shows I paid two months ago. On top of all of that, the website the letter gave me to pay online wont accept the account number they gave me. I will not be going here again. Their incompetence is staggering.
In September 2017 I came to NCH emergency room in critical condition and was treated immediately with the best care possible. I had been living in Texas for the past 12 years and had not been established with permanent doctors even though I lived here previously. The doctors and nursing staff were amazing! To name a few, Dr. Manuel Rosado, Oncology/Hemotalogy was compassionate and thorough with keeping my family informed as well as myself. Dr. David Mahon treated my wound miraculously. I was truly blessed to have such wonderful care under such serious circumstances. I actually decided to buy my home in this area to make NCH my hospital of care.
Came in for metal health support and was judged by the way I get help by the nurses saying loudly outside my closed door “why did you come here this wasn’t an emergency” supposedly they were so busy that I wasn’t as important to them as the rest of the patients. I told them if they didn’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything at all. Horrible service! This our healthcare system?? This is who we pay to take care of us!?
Wonderful staff made an unpleasant experience much more manageable. Had Sharon and Kim do a stress echo test prior to a surgery and they had me laughing and relaxed in no time. I appreciated how they put my unfounded anxiety to ease and Kim was entertaining and reassuring to my worrisome questions.
I love Dr Skyba!!! He spent an hour with me and was by far the most thorough exam I have ever had. He listened to my concerns without passing judgement and made recommendations that were very helpful. His nurse Rodeka called me the very next day with my blood results.I love the patient portal that allows me to ask questions or view my results online. He is also very good with children he saw my son who is a awkward teenager and made him feel comfortable and at ease.Dr. Skyba has excellent bedside manner and great communication skills to go along with his good looks, very professional. I highly recommend this doctor and thank him very much for taking my insurance.
Nothing is in the for front of my mind other than June 18, 2013. Actually I should take you back three weeks to May 30, 2013. My husband Stuart and I were watching TV. I looked over at Stuart and he did not seem to be awake. I tried to wake him but I could not get any response. I knew he was still alive but just not responding. I called the paramedics who came very quickly. They also could not get a response out of him. They decided to take him to Northwest. In the emergency room they also could not get him to wake up. If any of these professionals would have read Stuarts My Chart for Stuart they would have been able to revive him quickly. They would not have come to the conclusion that he would die with in 2 to 3 hours if they did nothing from his cancer anyway, so lets do nothing. Just at that second our oncologist walked by the emergency area. He saw Stuarts name and inquired what was being done for his patient. When he found out nothing he went ballistic. He had ordered Stuart to get, tomorrow, a blood trans - fusion. Stuart was so anemic that he needed at least 3 bags to go him level. If anyone would have read his chart and given Stuart at least one bag of Blood he would have gotten up immediately. As it was, the hospital said he belonged in hospice, they stuck Stuart on the 9th floor and closed the door on Stuarts Life. I must say the hospital, the Doctors and Nurses are not the only ones to blame. I my self am just as much at fault. I did not ask enough questions. I rushed to judgment and took the advise of the Hospice nurse. What I should have done, in our case, once Stuart was stable was take him home to die. Not wait three weeks in a gray, hospital room.
Some of the female nurses are rude and not helpful, they were both blonde and one of them had a tattoo on their wrist. They gossip instead of help patients. I also overheard one of the nurses insulted me after she helped me out.I had a head injury and my head was bleeding really badly. I had scans done and my head continued to bleed. I notified the nurses if anyone could help me out. They basically ignored my request. And then there was two blonde nurses, one of them was just rude and was gossping about going to an event with another nurse. She after like 10-15 minutes later just wrapped a band in my head without asking me anything or knowing anything. I took it off because I felt like she didnt know what she was doing. So the doctor finally came in and told me another nurse will do it and that nurse continually complained and heckled at me for taking it off and then I overheard her insulting me when she left.It is obvious which nurses are caring and know what they are doing and which ones are just there for a paycheck.
My experience at the hospital was great. Everyone is so professional and friendly and treat you with such respect. From the moment I came in for my out-patient surgery to the time that I left , I received the best of care. It is truly a wonderful hospital filled with a great, compassionate staff.
Waiting time at the ultrasound department is TOO LONG. Its 75 minutes for me already and Im still waiting here in the waiting room. Im trying to talk to the staff at the desk to see if my name is omitted from their list. She said they always at least 45 minutes late and she didnt even bother to double check my name. I remember 2-3 years ago I also had an unforgettable long waiting time here, in this exact same room. I tried to talk to another staff after waiting for 30 minutes more and she aslo responded like yup theyre usually running late. Sounds like its a known issue here but they dont care to fix it. What upset me more is that when I made the appointment, they keep reminding me to come 30 minutes early. They dont want to wait for patients but they let patients wait an extremely long time.
I took my sister to NCH for a possible overdose at first they went through the basic protocol. They released her after a blood transfusion the next day to transfer her to a rehab facility. When I got there they were ready to send her to this rehab via taxi with no underwear no coat and no socks. They said they would put a blaket on her. Really! I went home packed a suitcase and went back to the hospital. They said there was no guarantee there would be a bed for her where they were sending her to but assured me they would send her to another facility if they could not accommodate her. Well 9pm I got a call from her they were sending her home in a cab! The hospital is not equipped to handle patients just a cattle drive to move people out due to insurance. I would not take her back there go anywhere but not there!
I would like to take a moment and share the amazing support that my mother and family have received since she elected to go through radiation at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. From the moment that we walked through doors---we were greeted, smiled upon and were given nothing less than the utmost care. My Mom had to have (at 82 years old--and never having smoked) a total laryngectomy and tracheostomy. Within three weeks of that she was told that she needed 7 weeks of radiation....after the intense surgery of the laryngectomy and a total life change--she was NOT going to do the radiation. However after meeting with Dr. Nigh, Karen (RN) and all the amazing doctors, nurses and support staff in radiation oncology-plus gastrology and oncology doctors, nurses and support staff--she changed her mind and she is just finishing up with her radiation. She has come through this process because she is an amazing woman but also because of all the care, advice and non stop medical concern for her. I also want to mention Joe who works in the valet car parking--he starts her day Monday through Friday with a great smile and goes over and above to help her in and out of the car. I know that I have not mentioned everyone by name that have helped us...but please know that we are thankful and grateful for all of your help and concern and great medical abilities. Sometimes it is little things that make a difference to a patient and sometimes it is big things but Northwest Community Hospital you have all of those and more and I commend you for your comittment to the well being of your patients
I prefer going to the hospitals satellite center on Rand Rd and Kensington Rd. It is so much nicer than hospital if you need a CT scan. I have had three there since my back fusion. It is clean and the tech doing them is professional and kind. The whole center is this way. I have yet to have a wait longer than fifteen minutes. They will give you a free copy of the disc showing the scan. I will never go back to NCH for one or an MRI. They do blood tests there too. Best of all Starbucks is now next to the parking lot if you want coffee. I try to avoid the hassle and congestion the hospital offers and this is their secret care
My BCBS HMO insurance stopped covering Qwest blood draws at some point earlier this year, and I now have to have them done by Northwest Clinical Labs in order to be covered. My first experience was on July 10 where I had a 10:30 appointment for a simple blood draw, and was not seen until almost 1:00 PM during which time I had nothing to eat as my test required fasting. If two gentlemen also waiting in the overcrowded waiting room had not called for a supervisor and loudly complained, I’d probably still be sitting there. The first tech who tried to do my draw left my arm punctured in many places and after trying unsuccessfully for 15 minutes finally called a supervisor who did the draw in about 30 seconds flat.Yesterday I went for another simple blood draw and made the appointment Very Early in the hopes of avoiding another hours-long delay. I did get in roughly on time, but again had a tech who was inept and unable to get blood without repeated punctures, and even then could not fill the second vial entirely. My arm looks like a dog chewed on now the following morning...bruising and bloody area at the main draw sight. I am going to try some other location of Northwest Clinical Labs next time...I have NEVER experienced such problems with the draws at either Qwest or my oncologist’s office and I have been getting these draws fairly regularly now for about 2 years. I don’t know whether to be angry at my insurance or at NCH for being so obviously understaffed/staffed by inept and incompetent techs...but I think the other reviews I’ve read indicating similar issues and fairly recently are something that NCH management should treat more seriously than responding on complaints with their usual scripted message to phone customer service .... what about just getting more training for these techs and better supervision of the workflow?
My procedure was the first experience with NCH and it could not have been better. Every person I had contact with from the phone calls to confirm appointment and provide clear instructions, the receptionist, the prep-nurse, and the procedure personnel (of course Dr. Christopoulos I would recommend to anyone without any reservation) were friendly, courteous, and professional. I felt completely comfortable and safe. If you have to get it done (procedure) then this is the place to go.
I went to ER late December 2017 with a foot infection. I was diagnosed with untreated diabetes and cardio issues. Although I had to have the toes amputated on my right foot the combined efforts of Dr. Shukla and Dr. Edwards saved my leg! After 6 months and dozens of follow ups at the main hospital facility, at remote clinics and with NWC home nursing, I am well on the road to a much healthier life to enjoy time with my grandchildren. My foot is healing nicely, my diabetes is well controlled and my cardio is improving.Literally every single one of the several dozen persons I have engaged with these past 6 months has been amazingly helpful and nice to myself and family. I cannot thank you enough!
This review is for the registration for out patient service at the main hospital.I arrived 20 minutes prior to appointment and gave them my info. I waited for 15 minutes with other people being called that came in after me and it was getting close to my appointment time. So I go up to ask about it and get snapped at. Then it turns out my papers were misplaced then they said oh sorry. DO NOT UTILIZE this hospital or any associated groups of this hospital. This facility has major customer service issues with billing... We have made some co-pay overpayments and are not being refunded because those funds were applied to a service date from 2016 that is not finalized. We have never received a statement /invoice for the service date but NCH will not refund until a “credit “ shows on the account and will continue to apply any overpayments to said 2016 service date. Also, my kids were in a car accident this past August and instead of billing insurance for the emergency room visit, NCH placed a medical lien on my husband and myself within 3 weeks of the accident. Don’t let an ambulance take you to a NCH hospital!!!!
Some good and some not so good. I am sorry that the medical field is so fragmented anymore. It seems more like a business. Hospitalists really know little about ones condition and my internist, who knows me is not allowed to see me in the hospital. Recently a mistake in E R was made because ER doctor didnt listen to what I told him. He was overloaded though, as I believe that he was trying to take care of about 14 patients.Nurses were good. A few times even though, the hospital which doesnt allow perfume to be worn but, allows scented hand lotion which, is as bad when one is ill. Suggest you address that problem.
A man with a broken arm who just needed a cast walked in after we had been there with my friend (whom could not stop the bleeding out of his kneecap) for over an hour was able to be seen immediately after he walked in & left before we were even seen. When my friend finally got his name called to be helped, they didnt let him eat or drink anything even tho he didnt eat all day & was dizzy. If I could rate a 0 star, I would. I never rate companies unless they do an overly great job assisting me or an extremely horrible job-which was the case for this. Would never recommend to anybody.
Went into ER to take a friend. The ER nurses were just RUDE wouldn’t help and when asked a question they acted like I was annoying them. They kept all blankets away even when my friend asked for one. The nurse threw a fit when my friend suggested an arm that was best for drawing blood she just went off. Few minutes later she was gossiping by nurses station about my friend to another nurse. When I try to talk to her calmly to give her benefit of doubt like maybe she had a stressful day. The nurse rudely reply what you need get away. I was just jaw dropped like wow!!! Thank God I don’t live around this hospital area. I have never in my life seen or experience such unprofessionalism. These nurses are in the wrong profession.
Dr. Pithadia lacks a sense of compassion and makes you feel like he has no time for you. Even with this coronavirus, Dr. Pithadia refuses to extend my psychotropic medications and now I’m down to no refills. Obviously he is not aware of the withdrawal symptoms that will happen when stopping this medication abruptly. He has a borderline cocky attitude and is worthless if you are looking for a doctor who cares and makes you feel like you are a human being instead of another general appointment.
We arrived at 10pm and it wasnt busy. We were not given a room till about 11:45pm while we walked past dozens of empty ones. Doctor came in about 12:10am and we werent taken for a scan till 1:10 am. The wait times are ridculous and the ladies at the front are very condescending. Its supposed to be an emergency room, wheres the pace? There were multiple kids with clearly high fevers and sweats and waiting as long as we were. The staff need to act like they care. It was to the point were people were coming in and barely said a word...especially about what they were doing. If we ask why you are doing tests cause the doctor ordered it is not an acceptable answer...tell us what is going on. Didnt leave till almost 3 am. Very disappointing.
Though having to go to the hospital is not a pleasant experience, being at Northwest is a great experience. The entire staff knows their job and they ease your nervousness. Tests and results are done on a timely basis. Recommend NCH to everyone. And their therapy pooches are a welcome diversion.

2022-03-03I was having a heart attack and went to the closest hospital, that was my mistake. I have to say that the cardiac team and cardiac surgical team was great, but everything else just came apart. No communication with nursing staff, never saw the same attending doctor over the 4 days and 2 cardiac procedures I had while there. My meds that are very necessary are still not submitted to my pharmacy and it’s now been 2 days with out all meds prescribed to me and that I was instructed that had to be taken. My after care summary was all kinds of wrong and they at the same time tell me to take a med. then on the next page tell me to stop taking the med., they seem to have never reviewed the notes section of the MyCart portal they want everyone to use. I have had to call everyday about my meds and nobody cares to even call u back or cares to straighten out the problem.Management apparently does not believe or follow their own mission statement. Several nurses plain out said the hospital is grossly understaffed and patient care is suffering. Sanitation at the hospital is not very good either as they changed my room when I was in surgery for my second procedure of the 4 days I was there. The change was to a worse room and when the floor head person came to talk to me about the conditions I had rightfully complained about and apologized, asked me if I wanted a job. All I could think was bad form and how unprofessional. It’s now the end of the second business day after I was discharged and I still don’t have access to the meds a cardiac surgeon prescribed me. I guess they don’t care about their patients but I have to believe he is u aware of my issue with the medication.Do not use this failing hospital! I have attached pictures of the room conditions.

2022-03-11My wife delivered our first child at this hospital. We would give them more stars if possible. The nurses were fantastic (all of them). Camile was our delivery nurse and we were very encouraged throughout the process--all while keeping a smile on her face. Camile is a key asset for the hospital. I have never quite seen the level of service in a healthcare setting as provided by her. We would recommend this hospital/staff to everyone for labor/delivery.

2022-02-26Went to the ER today for a severe headache and stiff neck. My neurologist suggest for me to go due to the severity and requested a MRI. I waited 3 hours until I walked out because they didn’t take me back to be seen. They take you back for 5 mins to take your vitals then send you back in the waiting room. My blood pressure was 180/115 and stroke runs in my family. Apparently no care in the world. I called the on-call neurologist and he apologized and urged me to turn around and go back. I’m going back to a different hospital/facility the next morning. This hospital was great when I had my daughter years ago. That’s no longer the case.

2022-01-21This hospital is having issues. They do not seem to care about their patients anymore. They have made numerous mistakes in the past few weeks. Patients are not #1 anymore. When I spoke with the patient advocate about my concerns, she didnt even take my name, address or phone number to contact me back with any resolution. She made it seem like my brothers unexpected death was normal for that day. I dont ever want me or my family to come here again. So disappointed.

2022-02-10I wish I could give zero stars. Twenty five years ago I had my children at this hospital. It was a great hospital. My father still sees doctors that are affiliated here. He went in Monday for an angiogram. He was discharged by a nurse that rushed him out to my sisters car and couldnt wait to be rid of him. He complained that he was dizzy. She ignored this, rattled off some instructions and sent him home. Next morning I called to check on him and he had double vision and was still very dizzy. Dizziness was listed as a symptom to call the doctor about. I call the doctors office and the nurse said to bring him to the ER. They admit him. He had a mini stroke from the angiogram. He should have never been discharged on Monday. They admitted him and kept him overnight. All day long we are calling to try to get updates from doctors. No doctor ever called us back. The nurses tried to answer our questions Then all of a sudden at 4:15 pm I get a call that he is being discharged. They gave him an eye patch to help with the double vision, thats it! No instructions, no call from any of the doctors that saw him that day. Nothing. Ridiculous to treat people this way. If value your life go someplace else.

2022-01-28If you value your life or your love ones life DO NOT COME HERE! If you ever trust a review trust this one! They are rude, ignorant, lazy, and they dont value yours or your love ones life! Please DO NOT go here if you can avoid! The Dr.s are just as lazy as the nurses. They have a few nurses that actually care but the rest dont! Im happy I got the phone call that a transfer was being made to another hospital! Who ever made that happen thank you! Northwest you should really make your staff watch Patch Adams they might actually learn something! They made a bad situation into a worst situation! Which the information was given to them to prevent it! PLEASE AVOID!

2022-02-01So, a family member of mine just got her surgery done at the hospital and the service at the day-surgery was not so amazing. The blonde lady at the front desk was so sweet and thanks to her sense of humor, my mother wasnt so scared of the whole surgerical procedure. However, Im sorry to mention this but another lady at the front desk with dark short hair was so ignorant.Im aware that the whole covid-19 pandemic is making it harder for accompanies to stay in the waiting rooms but was I aware of that? No. She couldve just told me that sincerely and I wouldnt have a problem leaving but she went on telling me Im not following whats on the guidelines and that I could be in big trouble for that. Well sorry that Im just so worried about my family and her not knowing English is what worried me even more. Then I had to leave so I waited for a phone call from the doctor after the surgery. The doctor told me to go pick her up but didnt state where so I went back to the front desk. I shouldve received a text message stating me where I had to go but because of miscommunication with the front desk, they werent sending me anything. So of course I went back to the front desk and the blonde lady told me very politely that I had to go to the pick-up curve right next to the building but the other lady told was so disruptive and stated You shouldnt be here. I dont understand why you came back. Uhh Excuse me??? Does she think Im an expert knowing the place or is she just being mean because Im taking her time? Whatever the case may be, I was so disappointed.Someone should tell her that its very difficult to stay calm knowing your family member can go deaf if anything goes wrong during the surgery.Thank you for your service anyways.

2022-06-30I was misdiagnosed and mistreated here. I went in for anti-viral Covid medication and an ultrasound to make sure my unborn baby was OK. I didnt receive the medication and instead was told I had a possible infection that they wanted to admit me for. I begged to not be admitted and resume care with my doctor but they said its against their medical advice so my insurance wouldnt pay if I left. I was admitted so they could monitor me until my results came back with absolutely no treatments provided overnight and when my results came back everything was normal! My regular provider even said she isnt sure why they admitted me! I was also given a room with dried vomit on the left bed rail. Absolutely disgusting. Dont even get me started on how terrible the food is too. Im now stuck with a very large bill which I tried to take up with the billing dept. Over two weeks later, I get a call from the very rude patient coordinator telling me I need to pay it and they wont do anything for me. Oh she also said the rooms are dirty in the unit I was in because its old and impossible to clean. Im now going through appeals and opening a provider complaint with my insurance. I was planning on delivering my baby with this hospital but not anymore! Steer clear if you can.

2022-05-22Wonderful experience with nurse Nina V. at NCH in Arlington Heights, IL. She was professional, kind, nice and had steady hand when she was taking my blood. I had no visible veins and yet she was able to see it, and draw blood quickly and efficiently. Very nice experience.

2022-02-18It pains me to give this hospital one star because I have been going there for some time and I like the doctors who are affiliated with the hospital. Problem is their customer service is terrible in trying to escalate an issue. I received 3 stress test orders from my doctor to allow me to compare cost. When I called patient services, we went over all 3 of his orders and the cost associated with service. I believe there are laws now that protect people from having excessive charges if they work in advance to obtain procedure quotes. We decided to do the middle procedure, that went fine but when I received the bill it was 4x more than what I was quoted. I asked to have my call reviewed when I called the hospital for these quotes (as they say calls are recorded) and that should have been clear. 4 months later and a patient advocate group assisting and all I get is my procedure was coded correctly and I have to pay the higher cost. Had I not done all I did in advance with my doctor to ensure my costs were affordable, I would not be upset but where is the responsibility of the hospital when a patient has 3 different tests he can choose from, calls your estimate group, goes through insurance info with your agent and then orders the test that was quoted. At what point do you have to accept errors and not overcharge a patient for what you quoted? This has now happened again on my recent Covid treatment. When I called my insurance agent I was told the hospital did not code treatment for covid and when I contacted hospital I was told my treatment was not covid related. I had to politely ask them to double check as it was only covid treatment (monoclonal) when I tested positive and now I have a huge bill again I have to go through this review when they provided a quote before I went in that it was covered in full being covid related. What ever you do get everything in writing because even though calls are recorded, they are conveniently not provided even after a freedom of information request is done.
