Highly recommend visiting! At a faster pace, it took about 90min. I didnt go into the special exhibits, however if I had to choose again, Id definitely visit the interior of the submarine. The WW2/U Boat exhibit was incredible, as was the flight one. Plentiful parking but youll pay for it. I visited on a free day for Illinois residents so definitely check out their website for those days.
If I could give more than 5 stars for this museum I would. First time going to this museum, and it was absolutely AMAZING! We had a 9:30am ticket and we stayed for about 3.5 hours. We walked the entire museum and we also saw the Dark universe video at the giant dome theater, and we even did a lab experience called Dream it, Design it, Fab it and you create your own mini 3D figure which was pretty cool. Overall, this museum is a MUST.
My Favorite Museum in Chicago. Had not been back since July 2019! Despite this pandemic, had a great time. We were sad that we didn’t get to see many things we were looking forward to seeing but it makes sense for them to not be avail- pandemic. I love that there is underground parking available, not free, but at least one doesn’t have to walk blocks to arrive to museum. If science is what one likes and just curious of how things work, this is the museum to visit.
First-time going (just moved to Chicagoland): This museum was absolutely amazing. We are a family of five (2 adults and 3 children); therefore, I bought a family membership (had a promo code for 20% off). As long as we go, 2 times then we have saved money based on the entry-fee and free underground parking. We had a 1230PM reservation and stayed until closing 530PM. There is something for everyone. My son loves trains and miniature cars/ buildings; he was obsessed with The Great Train Story. Everyone enjoyed the Mirror Maze (make sure you reserve a time for entry). We did not know and got the last time reservation of the day. We ate before entry but the kiddos were hungry about halfway though. We ate in the Holiday Kitchen; the food is expensive for portions but stopped the hunger pangs and kept everyone happy. It was a nice break before going back to the exhibits. Museum was extremely busy due to children being on Holiday break. All of the extra attractions were sold-out about 2 weeks out so plan ahead on no school days.Closed during visit: Coal Mine and Submarine Tours. The members lounge.
Great museum for all ages. It gets quite busy on a Saturday but greatly enjoyed all that the museums had to offer. Skip the food and bring your own since they allow outside food inside.Definitely book the special exhibits ahead of time since they run out if you’re trying to buy day of. We did the U505 submarine and our guide was thorough and was a wealth of knowledge.
We loved this museum. Our love for history and science only grew after the day we’ve spent in this place. We highly recommend it and would love to go there again with our youngest son too. Each section is very elaborated, with interactive options. We are not living in Chicago, but if you are in the area, this is a worthwhile trip either as a couple or a group. The park close by is a nice place to take a break after the visit. We found parking very close on a side road at a reasonable price.
As always a great museum for all ages. A lot of the exhibits have been there for years and new ones are added for a short time. Theres something for everybody. The holiday trees from different countries are always beautifully decorated. A new exhibit celebrating Black Creativity was very educational. Lots of hands on interaction in the exhibits.
So many things to see & experience! We went on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend so traveling into the city, there were traffic delays. Parking was easy because I knew where it was, although GPS gets you there too. Its an underground ramp, you pull a ticket, park & pay your $22 at a pay station on your way out. Purchase tickets ahead of time especially if you want to do special exhibits, like the coal mine or U 505 & some confined exhibits, like those mentioned, do require masks. Our coal mine tour guide Amanda was hilarious & very knowledgeable. The museum seems to be in the process of upgrading several exhibits that I would have liked to see but we still had plenty to do. The food options were limited so I recommend bringing some snacks of your own. By 4pm, the vending machines had a few teas & the loaded with caffeine drinks & maybe there were a few bags of cookies. They were almost empty. There is a small snack place in the space area with fresh options & the garden grill & Cafe are also located near there, but prices are high.
This is our second time here. Its several floors of varying exhibits. Some exhibits cost extra. If youve never been, its worth a trip. If you like learning about the history of different scientific advancements, early engineering feats, how natural phenomena work, and interactive exhibits, this place has something for young and old alike. Highly recommend. FYI: Parking is now under the Museum in the parking garage. It used to be on ground level, outside, but it was not when we went this time.
Incredible museum! The absolute highlight was the U505 submarine. The story of the ship’s history as well as how it came to rest at the museum are amazing. I felt like some of the other exhibits pale in comparison to the scope and scale of the submarine. The gravity of this war vessel from WWII is intense. It is an actual historical monument - not a remake or recreation in any way. This was responsible for so much world history. The body exhibit was cool but dated. The cars and bike exhibits were very very small without much history. I did like seeing the moon rock but wished you could touch it.DO NOT MISS THE SUBMARINE TOUR! It fills up daily so book in advance.
This was a wonderful time and great adventure for our family. My little boy really loved learning about electricity and desperately wanted to see the Tesla Coil fire multiple times. There are multiple hands on experiments and displays to illustrate different scientific ideas in terms that are easy to understand. The Holiday theme was definitely also a beautiful family favorite.
Our very favorite museum to visit in Chicago! So well done. Bright. Very clean. Most impressed with the interactive displays. Coat check was open as of 1/2022. Large cafeteria still closed. Membership lounge no food but can get free coffee on lower level. Fun for entire family. We are members.
This was an interesting experience. It wasnt our favorite museum in Chicago but it did have a lot of neat things to see and experience. It would be a great place to take elementary age students. The trains and planes were very cool as was the weather area. My favorite part was the German u boat and I really enjoyed reading the history of it. The museum was pretty crowded and only about half of the sanitizing stations actually had sanitizer in then which was a little frustrating since there are a lot of things that people touch. They had a few stations that were closed because they were high touch but it felt pretty arbitrary. I would recommend it but be prepared.
The Museum of Science and Industry is a fantastic museum. The crowds were kept light due to the pandemic, so it made it really easy to make it through all of the exhibits.A couple of issues due to the pandemic were a few of the exhibits were closed. The inside of the submarine and some of the tighter exhibit halls. Also, they need to update some of the exhibits. Theyve had some of the same ones since I went there as a child. Some awesome things to do during the holidays were the trees from all of the different countries and the tree in the main rotunda. They all were all very pretty!A nice feature of the aviation exhibit was the United 727 they have. They even had a retired United pilot in the plane to answer questions. As a United 1K member, its cool to speak about the old school travel days before the craziness of today. Before we finished our visit, my wife signed us up to disect a Cows eye. Im squeemish, but my wife and daughter talked me into doing it. Im glad I did! The staff was really cool and patient. They were awesome people and made us feel really comfortable.Chicago is full of great things to do and has wonderful museums and the Museum of Science and Industry doesnt disappoint. Its a must go for everyone and once this pandemic is over, it will be the full immersive experience it should be!
I came back to this museum after 8 years and it was just as amazing as I remembered it, if not more. This museum is such an amazing experience for people of all ages. The little ones get to soak up so much Information, have fun, and have their minds wowwwwwed. Please don’t leave Chicago without visiting this beauty!
Best part was by far the captured U-boat. Great exhibit and lots of history behind it. We spent a whole day there 10:30-5:30 and definitely couldve stayed longer. And thats without doing any of the additional paid activities. Plenty of exhibits have interactive aspects for kids to use and learn from. Only downside was that many interactive exhibits were not working properly.
We became members 3 years ago and it’s easily our best investment. With enclosed parking we visit once a week or more.Today we visited the new Art of the Brick. The exhibit is beautiful and worth admission. We also visited the transportation hall and baby chicks.Every visit we learn something new.
This place was great. Everything was very exciting and interactive. The only negative I have is that the vending machine gave us the wrong item, cost more then it should of, and didnt taste all that great. But all the positives outweigh that one negative. The one thing you have to do here is the U-boat 505. It gives you a great scale for how big WW2 ships actually were.
This place is colossal. Unfortunately, the U-boat exhibit was sold out, however, you can still walk around the outside of it and still get a pretty good history lesson. Reserve early if you want to walk inside. Instead, we paid to go through the coal mine exhibit. It was interesting, but I am not sure if I would pay to walk through it again. The best part of the exhibit was when I was walking up to the podium to give them my ticket. The lady behind the podium must have noticed me fumbling for my ticket, and called out: You must be Ryan!. It was a delightfully personal touch in such a busy place!
Chicago does museums right, but this has to take the cake as the best one in the city. So much to do and see exhibit wise, but the architecture alone is stunning. Strongly recommend checking out the Lego exhibit as well and placing over/under bets with the group you visit with as to how many pieces make each design and work of art.
I work as an engineer and my Wife works in nursing, but we both really liked this museum when we visited on January 22, 2022. It has lots of cars and planes and types of transportation, a huge model train display that models where materials and goods come from and how they get to cities, and they were adding more attractions and exhibits (we saw in the map/pamphlet). It’s a great museum if you have kids that like to watch how things work and why they work that way (and so, we will surely bring our children here in the future). For adults, it shows to the amazing engineering and scientific discoveries that go into our everyday products.
Amazing visit! As adults we felt like we could be kids again. There’s such a mix of visitors so even if you don’t have kids and you’re thinking of stopping - do it! All the staff were helpful. Limited food findings and options, but we got by. This place is huge, we spent 4.5 hours inside and couldn’t get to it all.
What an amazing day my family had. We spent a good 6 hours there taking our time and spending time at all of the interactive exhibits. My favorite were the plane and u boat acquired during WWII. If you are looking to participate on the add ons sign up early as most of them were sold out when we got there.
So many exhibits to explore you cant see them all in a day. Plan out what are the key sites and order your entry tix before going (if you arrive early you should have time to get into exhibits requiring an additional ticket). This years International Christmas Tree displays are so fun to view.Enjoy!
This was my first time going to MSI with my girlfriend (now fiancée), and it was a blast! Theres so much to see and do here! Although getting lunch was a bit chaotic, its because they were renovating the main food court and only had a small area to serve food through, so its understandable being a bit backed up. My favorite area was definitely the weather section, its so fascinating! We definitely didnt get through everything (you really cant unless youre rushing), so I cant wait to go back and explore more!
Went with two adults - was very cool to poke around the entire museum, and there were definitely some awe-inspiring exhibits. But, overall, the reason for the 4/5 is because it is extremely children-oriented. That makes complete sense, as 95% of museums are geared and marketed towards 12 and under, but I would have definitely appreciated a few more adult-oriented exhibits. The Art Of The Brick is a very cool gallery, and you should definitely check it out if you have the time. The Vortex and Boeing 727 exhibits were also very cool, two must-sees if youre going to attend.
This was super fun and had so many things to do. We got to see baby chicks hatch, explore weather experiments, and more. There was a huge model train set and even a life sized train you could sit on. In the weather part, you could control tornados, waves, avalanches, and more. There were many fun things to do for all different age groups. It felt like there was a never ending amount of things to explore. There was an awesome gift shop with different sweatshirts, stickers, and science experiments. There was also a huge part with tons of old planes, and even one you could sit on. There were also some virtual reality experiences. From February to September of 2022, there is a Lego experience. There are so many different things built in Lego’s, including life sized animals, replicas of famous artwork, and a 20 foot t-Rex skeleton. The Science and Industry Museum was super fun and had many different ways of fun and learning experiences. I totally recommend!
The MSI is the one place where I truly feel like a tourist in my own city. Every time I walk towards the building, I am in awe of its architecture. Can you believe it was built in the late 1920s? Many locals and tourists from all walks of life come here, which ironically happened over a 100 years ago. The MSI is located in Hyde Park, where the 1893 Worlds Columbian Exposition was once held. I definitely recommend coming here especially if you want to know more about Chicagos history and learn there is more to Chicago than just downtown.Believe it or not, during the Spring, you can actually watch the Cherry Blossom Trees in Jackson Park. The view is captivating as the museum acts as a backdrop to the trees. Theres plenty of room to Hanami because the area is not too crowded.Out of all the museums in Chicago, MSI is indeed my favorite. Ive gone as a child and now as an adult taking my son. Every visit, he reacts differently as his cognitive development changes as we come. It is really a joy to watch him experience the museum differently than the last. Please keep in mind, due to COVID, the exhibits are now constructed to keep everyone safe. Much of my favorite exhibits are closed temporarily, but I still recommend coming, just be prepared and ready for changes. Plan everything ahead of time because it will make your visit much smoother. You can buy tickets online and I do recommend reserving the special exhibits, especially the Mirror Maze. The mandate is in effect and a vaccination card is required. MSI is staffed adequately, clean, and you can easily spend the whole day there. It is after all a Science museum and there is so much to learn from that topic. Must sees are the U-505 Submarine, Farm Tech, YOU experience, Science Storms, and Giant Dome. Take your time because you might miss out on certain interactive experiences that otherwise look ordinary.I recommend packing your own food to save money. Parking is about $20 and there is plenty available. There arent any lockers available, though you are able to rent strollers and there is coat check offered at a cost. On crowded days, it can be hectic, and waiting for your turn on certain activities can be long because only one group at a time is permitted to enjoy them. Next time around, I will come on a slower day. I look forward to my favorite exhibits reopening and taking my son to The IDEA factory. Regardless, if youre a tourist, museum fanatic, or parent, MSI will not disappoint.
Make sure you get there early so much to see and not a lot of time to see it all. Employees where super helpful and friendly. Great place to bring the kids for a fun filled day out. adult tickets are 21.95 and childrens 3 - 11 are 12.95 but if you go after 230 they are half price.
I remember my parents taking us to this when i was a kid and we always loved it. However I remember there being dancing from the different countries and dinner from different countries. Maybe its due to covid but this was just seeing Christmas trees decorated from countries around the world, Still beautiful but not what i remember from my childhood. Museum of Science and Industry has always been my favorite. I live out of state so i rarely get there now but we did enjoy going
This place is massive and filled with mind blowing facilities. Here you can create a tornado, simulate an earthquake, shape a tank of liquid metal with magnets, or appreciate the magic and power of a ray of light. Whether you are an elementary school student or a PhD, this place will always be an eye opener in the amazing world of science.
I took my children to MSI over spring break & we all had a blast!! I bought tickets in advance & walked right in with no wait. The Idea Factory was open for play with a reserved time so we stopped there first to get our ticket time which was right after lunch. We spent most of our time in the first floor since there was so much to do! We checked out the Wonder Is All Natural exhibit and learned about tornados, lightening, tsunamis & different types of natural weather occurrences. In total we spent about 3-4 hours at the museum and didn’t even see it all. We can’t wait to go back and explore the rest!! :)
Really nice museum with a lot of things to do and exhibits to admire. I really liked the interactive exhibitions that they have, which get the kids engaged into learning the concepts that are presented to them. Definitely dont miss the Science Storms exhibit, which is awesome and has very well crafted demonstrations. All that being said, I gave a 4-star review because the museum, can get very crowded and its exhibits are very messy. Specifically, you will find that adjacent rooms often have nothing to do with each other. On one youre looking at ships and then at racing automobiles. Then you are exploring some model trains, and suddenly a genetics exhibition. Or you are talking about a circus and suddenly appear in the entrance of the submarine exhibit. I encourage this museum to put together their story line and get together the exhibits that make sense, instead of having them spread across different sections of the museum. Now on to the logistics: my family and I used the CityPass, which provided access to the museum. The online reservations were very convenient and we didnt have to make a line to buy a ticket.Parking is also available on site, both underground and next to the museum.Food-wise, we used a temporary food court that was setup for the 2021 Thanksgiving-Christmas holiday on the 2nd floor. The food was okay but super over-priced (I guess as you would expect in a tourist attraction).Yes, overall I think this museum is worth visiting, especially with kids.
I really enjoyed the exhibits I was able to see especially the submarine. My reason for 4 stars and not 5 was because of all the secondary pay walls to see many of the exhibits.By 11 am the rest of the museum that was past the 1st pay area was so crowded as to make it hard to enjoy.
Last time I was here, sometime in 2018, I was only given about an hour twenty minutes to look around which is far from enough time to get through the mueseum! Today, I spent five hours exploring and still didnt get through the entire place!! This is definitely a museum where youll be spending plenty of time exploring! Its a bit pricey however I will say you certainly get your moneys worth if you take your time looking around instead of trying to fly through it. If given the time and opportunity, Id certainly come back! If your feet arent aching by the end of the day, you didnt spend enough time here! Or youre just more physically fit than I am! Lol! Definitely a mueseum worth checking out!
One of the best museums I have ever been to. Even the building building itself is worth seeing as it is an exceptional piece of history and construction. There is so much to do and see here for both children and adults alike. I recommend taking older kids who would have a grasp of science or else the experience is wasted on them, and everyone else for having to listen to your toddler cry and scream the whole time. Seeing U-505 in person is extremely humbling and is worth going to the museum just to see it. The dome IMAX is a great experience and shouldn’t be missed.
Fabulous! Loved German submarine display/story! Transportation area with models of cities & trains, Fairy Castle, baby chicks (only saw one out of egg), farm area, old time town street, weather area, space area, Zephyr train, etc. (Only disappointment was no coal mine visit.) Hardly anyone there so really a chance for in-depth study of exhibits. Loved our day there!!!
So much to do and see for exhibits in the museum! I loved the large model train set explaining how goods are moved across the USA via trains. The exhibit on Glaciers and how fast theyre disappearing was great and eye opening. If youre Autistic like me, bring ear defenders, Loop experience earbuds, or another sound dampening device as there is a lot of noise. Also, do check out the Art of Lego extra exhibit if you go! I loved the lego sculptures the artist had on display.
As the holiday seasons are coming, the MSI has set up Christmas trees. This time they actually has an exhibition of different Christmas trees with different decoration style from lots of countries around the world! Come and visit it!The second one is the cool railway model mimicking the great train transportation from Chicago to Seattle. Magnificent works!Other interesting exhibitions including art designs, natural phenomena and etc can be seen. You won’t miss it.
This is our second visit to the Museum of Science and Industry specifically for the Marvel exhibit and they didnt disappoint!!!The mixed media content was so engaging I was both captivated and blow away. The Ant Man hologram was delightful and so unexpected. It was like watching a flea circus but actually being able to see the fleas. It is truly for the young and the young at heart! I enjoyed myself immensely!
Classic museum and Chicago tourist spot located off the lake. Beautiful views. Food options on site. Parking available- $20 paid meters outside. Free days for local residents, state ID required. For frequent visitors, consider a membership…immediate access, no wait.Attended Marvel Super Hero Exhibit. Fun time. I added photos.
Overall really enjoyed walking through this beautiful museum, vending machines need to be able to read credit cards tho so I would recommend some cash. Also it was sad how much was closed off. Still was a good time, they had some VR offered and we saw a galaxy tour in the giant dome-kinda made us sleepy.
What a disappointment from when I used to come here. Basic ticket is not cheap, but at least the kids could see the famous hatching chick exhibit. Or not - its closed. All the other classics, like the submarine or the coal mine, cost extra - a lot extra. Plus a lot of closed/broken exhibits and restaurants (see photos). So its become a museum for rich folks who dont know how great it used to be.
Highlights are the trains, planes, vintage automobiles, U-505 submarine, and the weather section. They have a two story unit that makes tornados out of water vapor and a tesla coil up in the ceiling that they will turn on. Spent the most time by far playing around in that section. The WWII section with U-505 was very cool if you appreciate history, they did a nice job telling its story and had many authentic artifacts salvaged. The Enigma coding machine and several interactive pieces made it a lot of fun.
Still one of my favorite museums in Chicago. However I was disappointed that a ton of the exhibits were closed or down, yet for a family of 4 it was over $200 for admission. I think they’re price gouging a bit. I paid it, but probably won’t be back. Best part about the museum was the Marvel exhibit. 40% if everything else was closed or out of order. I wouldn’t have been so disappointed if the price admission was lower, but the fact they charged that much and so many things were shut down was absolutely disappointed.
Loved every second of the time we spent here. My kids enjoyed it as well, great place for kids that are 5+ years old. They learned alot about themselves and others which was excellent. Will probably make a trip to the museum every few years as they grow. There is a little bit of everything here so everyone can find something they really enjoy. The food wasnt too badly priced either which was a pleasant surprise.
Great experience today with the family. Good staff all around but despite the staff i was very impressed with the all of the departments and what they had to offer. Great history and tons of knowledge to be gained from this place. It was also very kids friendly. My toddler was never bored.
The science part is always fun. I wish they had later times for whole exhibit not just marvel. My husband and I did the marvel exhibit. It was okay nothing too spectacular. My husband said it was mediocre compared to others we went to.Customer service was good, facility clean, and mask mandate heavily enforced which I loved.
The Industry and Science museum is a must do amongst all the museum around Chicago. The 727 plane tour, the Pioneer express train visit, the coal mine visit, and the most amazing experience of visiting U- 505 submarine. The glass maze is one of a kind experience along with other STEM exhibits. This is a must do for all young children.
You definitely need the full day to take in all this museum has to offer. From the science displays in the top floors, to the technology in transportation scattered about including the Submarine, models of cars, ships, the detail of the HO layout, farm exhibit, full size locomotive both steam and the impressive exhibit of the 1930s passenger diesel, as well as the full size jet. Staircases are separated by color. Dont forget the gift shop.
I like this museum since it has a lot of interactive items that helps you to learn about science. Not even for kids, adults can have fun here too. Also, special exhibitions are really cool, recently the Marvel section is not bad, it does explains how comics began in the US and how Marvel developed those super heroes.
Ever since my parents first took me to the Museum of Science & Industry as a kid I’ve loved this place. I make it a point to stop in every time Im in Chicago. Its seriously my favorite museum!! The U-505 got me when I was a kid and Ive never forgotten it. They’ve got the Pioneer Zephyr train, an actual combine you can sit in and the largest model train display I’ve ever seen. Planes, trains, automobiles and a submarine!! I love this place!!
So we took a break test and decided to go to the museum and the main goal was to see the U-boat. Well this place is amazing. So much history and it is very clean and what people you can find is helpful. If you go you have to check out the u-boat (unfortunately there is no tours of it going on right now because lack of help there) also the flight simulator was pretty cool. If you are military or veteran you will get in free. Otherwise go on line and buy your tickets it will save you some time. Also make sure you eat before you get there because there is not much for food outside a sandwich that looks like it is from a gas station for 12 dollars and some pizza
This was an amazing experience for my 9 year old and 5 year old. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip here. They have escalators and elevators. Parking is a bit expensive at $22 a car. We were able to explore most of the exhibits. However, due to covid most hands on activities were not working. Had a blast regardless and would come back 100 percent the next time we are in Chicago.
I brought my 3 and 5yo kiddos and it was the first time Ive ever seen them not fighting under the same roof. They both had a blast. Theres a cute little sandwhich shop with icecream. Pricey of course but good food. The Marvel exhibit did not disappoint. I got the family pass and will definitely be utilizing it often.
On Wednesday I stopped by the Museum of Science and Industry Chicago for the first time in years! I think the last time I was here it was for a school field trip, but even as an adult I still had a great time. The main purpose of my trip was to see the new Marvel: Universe of Super Heroes Exhibit. The Marvel exhibit was pretty cool, but I think that the price is a little steep for what they offer. There are a some cool costumes for you to see as well as comics, but theres also things like photo props that you cant really engage with because of social distancing and the small space its in. Quite a few people brought their kids inside of the Marvel exhibit, but most of the things were higher up that the kids just ran around unable to enjoy anything; there are no games these are props and accessories.Parking cost $22 and in total the experience was about $100 for two people. The price includes two general mission tickets as well as two tickets to the Marvel exhibit. While I do think that everything was nice $100 is really pricey for someone who didnt buy anything from the gift shop or eat anything on site.I will probably go back on a discounted day for Illinois residents. Other than that I dont see myself paying full price again to experience this unless something else significant comes through.
Awesome experience for kids and adults. Groups have the most fun! We had places to eat with our group of 55 (kids and adults). The most important things were the guides who were strategically placed throughout the museum to help the kids understand things better! The price was great, the food was awesome and we all learned something new!
Beautiful and huge. Kind of expensive, but you definitely get your moneys worth. I cannot stress how big this place is enough. I mean, they have several aircraft of various sizes in there, and a whole U-boat! Make sure you have the whole day free. The Marvel exhibit looks legit, but we didnt do that one. Parking is pretty easy, but go in knowing some people dont know how to drive or park a car. It gets pretty crowded, but not too bad. But seriously, take the whole day, and bring your walking shoes.
MOSI is a classic for kids and adults, plenty to see, do feel and touch! I personally went for the U-505 exhibit which is well worth it. Can you believe the have a real captured-in-war U-Boat…inside?! It’s an unbelievable part of history and the entire exhibit leading up to the U-Boat is well put together and displayed.Beyond that, still plenty to including side exhibits and tours (currently including Marvel Studios…but was sold out…be sure to book early!).
I was a little worried this place would be really focused on kids, but its a great place for adults, too! My wife and I had great fun with the interactive exhibits as well as just marvelling at the size and displays. The storm exhibit is seriously one of the best in the world! If you can, go midweek and off season like we did, as there were no entry lines and we could play with almost everything without wait.I dont know how much parking costs, but the train from downtown is only $4 per person round trip.Note that as of Oct 2021, the food court is being remodeled and food options are very limited.
Was a great time! So much to see and learn, the kids were never bored. I do feel like there could have been more hands on activities for the kids, not just a push of a button. I do LOVE the black creativity at exhibit they had. They also had the marvel museum but it would have cost our group of 7 over $100 to get in, and that was on top of the regular admission. So that was disappointing. They did have a lot of closed exhibits as well.
Anyone 5 and older will need a proof of vaccine and ID to enter. The museum is very interactive with lots buttons to push and wheels to turn so bring your sanitizer. If your staying downtown you can take the Metra train from millennium station to 57th Street for $2 each way. The train was exceptionally clean, it has a conductor on it and felt very safe. If you are a science person or an engineer there are a lot of great things to see. Its great STEM (not a whole lot of math) exposure for kids. I thought it was well worth the $22. There is an attached covered parking garage that I think Was $20? I took the train so not sure on that.
Something for every age! Parents dont let your kids skip the Extreme Ice exhibit. It will depress them to see how fast the glaciers are melting but it will hopefully also fire them up to save this planet since our generation has screwed it up. Even if your kid doesnt appreciate the German submarine, its a good glimpse into how war influenced the national psyche and perhaps the thinking of their grandparents. Dont miss the fairy castle. The minute detail was amazing!
This is one of my favorite Meuseum in Chicago. So many things to see, do, learn for all ages. Lot of History around the world on different areas. The train model is one of my favorite piece in the Meuseum. I can look at it for hours. The details are amazing. You can finish your tour in 2 hrs or all day. It depends on your interest. But about 4 hrs is what it takes to review all exhibits without detailed reading. However, the cafeteria is not very great and really expensive. I would recommend packing your food and enjoy it on the garden outside. The parking used to be crazy but due to Covid there were plenty available. Its about $23 for all day. Overall great Museum.
It was a really good time. You need an entire day to see all the great things inside. The Art Of The Brick exhibit was far better than I imagined. To be honest I expected very little from it, not gonna lie, but it was actually terrific. And for that matter all exhibits were done really well. Cant wait to come back later this year when its warmer and take our time seeing everything in great detail.
Had a fantastic time with the family at the Museum of Science and Industry. Many great interactive exhibits which are engaging for all ages. The highlight for me was the Marvel Comics exhibit (galleries 1 & 2) which featured original ink proofs, several renowned comic book issues as well as the genuine costumes and props from the MCU movies. Really well done.
Very big museum. There was an entire floor we didnt even go through because its just so large. Which is amazing for us! It gives us an excuse to come back. Kids loved every part we were able to see. Life sized airplane, train, submarine and space craft models. Pricey eatery but thats to be expected. They do allow snacks and drinks to brought in as long as you dont eat in the exhibits.
Ive been coming to the Museum of Science and Industry since I lived in Hyde Park growing up in the late 60s early 70s. I literally went there every day when I was 5 years old so many memories! I made those memories with my son and now Im doing that with my grandson! This kid loves World War II so seeing this sub and touching it you should have seen his face light up! Also we did the VR and he loved it! Its a little harder to get around now that this building is so much different than I remember but the maps that were provided were very adequate cant wait to bring my granddaughter!
Had a blast at the Museum of Science and Industrys Marvel Comics Exhibit! So much to see and read with a lot of interesting facts about Marvel Comics and the Marvel universe.... too bad the MSI staff became pretty pushy about exiting the exhibit! One hour is NOT enough time to fully see part 1 AND 2 of the Marvel Comics exhibit!
Our visit was out of this world!!! Although we went to take an 11 year old, we still had a wonderful time. I had never been to a museum that was so interactive. We were there for 5 hours and still did not see everything. The cherry on top was that they currently have an Afro-American Art Exhibit, that is simply stunning. I will definitely return.
I love this museum so much I have a membership. I love that you need advanced tickets. Before it was always so crowded and kids running around made it hard to see things close up. Now you get there per the time on reservations and enjoy. The food quality isnt the best. We were on 12/24 and we had a Cobb salad and water and I immediately threw up. Dressing maybe. But the museum is beautiful and a wonderful place to go. The marvel exhibit yearly last year was a hit.
Took my mom and sons to the Museum of Science and Industry. We had a great day My mom hadnt been here in more than 30 years really fun walking through with her pointing out all the new things things that have changed. So much to learn here If you wanted to read everything it would take a week to go through this place. Found the u-boat section to be really fun and informative. Really wanted to see the Marvel exhibit, but it was sold out. If your looking forward to the Marvel exhibit, make reservations a long time in advance. We had lunch in the cafeteria there, the price was a little high but the quality and quantity was great. It was a great day with the family.
I have been enjoying visiting this museum for over 40 years, since I was a small child. I was always thrilled by the fairy house and loved riding the Coal Mine adventure. There are still some wonderful exhibits, but now they bleed you dry by charging you extra for so many of the exhibits, experiences, and food.I brought my son and his friend on the train from Indiana. Turned out to be an exorbitant day.
Love it as always. It takes multiple trips to get through it all. So many things for kids to see and interact with. Love the updated planes and tall ships exhibits as well as the classic chicks/genetics, space, and trains. Ive seen several of the special exhibits in the past too--Christmas trees, Harry Potter, and now Marvel comics. Always something for everyone! Its a bit sad that the ice cream upstairs is closed. The Starbucks was closed too!
So much to do and see that its almost overwhelming! Plan on spending a few hours. It was crowded but moving quickly. 4 stars because they need more sanitizer stations around the museum and there are far too many exhibits/displays that are closed to the public. I also wish there was more staff around to answer questions.
We went to the Marvel Experience at the Museum! They had so many original comic art pieces, props and clothing worn in the movies!!!! We grabbed a stuffed Groot plushie and a periodic elements bag from the gift shop. Since youve already paid for entry be sure to check the other exhibits. The weather exhibit is a lot of fun. Especially the vibrating table with bones and nuts.
Spent a solid 5 hours in there and it feels like we’ve only scratched the surface. A really awesome place where the 6 of us - from 4 to 40 years old - found something of interest. We loved it!The u-boat is quite impressive for sure (they even have an Enigma machine); the space hall has a lot to show as well; and then the “main hall” where one can access planes, trains and other physics related exhibits are impressive.Watch out the Tesla coil as it makes quite some noise and did scare the youngest in our party.
Special thank you to LaQuita for helping us reschedule our tickets!! My brothers flight to Chicago was canceled and we couldn’t make it to our original ticket time. We were helped out at the very last minute by the museum and were able to get a new time! We had a great afternoon and it was so much fun to see the Marvel exhibit before it closes!
What a great place to visit when youre in Chicago!! Brought the family here and 4 hours later it was still hard to leave. So many areas to check out I dont know where to begin. The weather portion was my favorite and the kids loved the mirror maze the most. I didnt expect to like it as much as I did which says a lot about how fun and interesting the museum is. I highly recommend stopping in if youre in the area!!
The Marvel Exhibit is awesome! MSI already is a stellar museum with all the cool exhibits and interactive displays, Marvel takes it up one more notch. 👍 Chicago residents can find a museum pass (Free admission for 2 adults and 2 children) at the library and pay $18/adult $14/ages 3-11 for the Marvel experience.
So many fun things to see. The submarine is always a blast, as are the trains. My 11-year-old and 13-year-old boys loooved the LEGO Exhibit and as an adult its extremely engaging. From a life-sized David to American Gothic, theres something for everyone.I loved the Black Art Exhibit, such beautiful art and talent that celebrates the natural beauty and grace in Melanin and Culture.Definitely a must-see in Chicago along with the Field Museum!
Very large and interesting array of exhibits, much for a family or group to do over a day or longer. Many exhibits are closed (due to COVID-19 or being refreshed) but some feel that they are in need of being repaired or rebuilt. A better array of food/beverage options in the museum would be welcome, but they do allow outside items to be brought in which is a nice option if you are prepared.
This was So Much fun!!! Totally worth every penny! We even got the extra tickets for Marvel and Id highly recommend it. Even though a lot of the hands on activities were closed due to Covid it was still a ton of fun. We didnt even have time to see everything. I cant wait to go back someday and see more.
The sights, sounds, and smells of this museum are pretty nostalgic for me ❤️ went on a free day with our kiddo so it was a bit crowded BUT they do a great job of keeping you safe while visiting by spacing out tickets to special exhibits. Seeing the worlds largest display of Lego art didnt disappoint either, worth every penny!
This is an excellent museum with plenty of interactive exhibits for kids. You can walk into airplanes, submarines and train cars. They also have the coolest Marvel exhibit with original comics, costumes from the movies and plenty of details about comic book history. Such a great way to get in some educational family time while in the city.
Very fun and interesting place for those interested in stem! The line inside the museum wasnt too long and everywhere we went there was always something interesting/intriguing. The museum is really really big, I dont think we covered the whole museum and there are so many attractions to see. Definitely a really cool place to visit for all ages!
Sooo Cool. Art of the Brick. Amazing Lego brick replicas of some of most famous art — Mona Lisa, Girl w the Pearl Earing, American Gothic, The Kiss. Great fun for adults and kids. Animals are astounding particularly T Rex. Finished day w Al Fresca meal nearby at Ascione Bistro. Great day !!
Its fun, and has a lot of interesting stuff. However, there arent many water fountains or places to sit throughout, which is inconvenient at times. The ticket prices are pretty expensive, and previously free experiences (like the Coal Mine) now cost upwards of $12-$18 extra per person.Food is pretty expensive, so if you can manage to bring your own lunch it will save you some money.Regardless, its still an exciting place for kids and older visitors. Its worth the trip
We went to the museum and were very disappointed to find that they charge a $20 entrance fee and $12 to see the coal mine and an additional $18 to see the submarine. You have to get timed tickets so be sure to get them early in the day to ensure that you can see both.We had been here many years before and I dont think there were extra fees for these exhibits. I dont know how you expect a family to afford this wonderful museum. You also will pay $22 for parking. I can see charging a small additional fee, but I feel this was way too much.
We have a family membership so get free parking (otherwise its $22) at the garage. The problem is theres extremely limited space and some people are terrible at parking. There were multiple people that took up two spots either in purpose or just a terrible job parking at an awkward angle. Too make matter worse, there was construction materials taking up several spots as well. We kept circling looking for spots and I just decided to park next to the construction materials since no one seemed to be working and I wasnt going to waste any more gas.The museum itself isnt bad but it seemed smaller than I expected. The Brain Food Court was packed but only had vending machines. We found the small snack shop (I think that was the name) and bought some chicken and fries - for some reason people kept wanted to take the box I had while I was waiting for the chicken to be restocked. There were several folded boxes but apparently my opened box was more attractive? All said and done, when we left and arrived home we checked if we could refund the membership, no such luck.Hopefully theyll get some of those bright orange stickers to slap on some car windows for the people taking up more than a spot so theyll get the message to be polite for other visitors. The timed entry seems a joke.
Ive loved this museum all my life and now my daughter loves it, too. Some exhibits require masks butI wish there was a mask requirement for the whole museum because there are so many young kids there all the time and some areas are crowded.I do wish some of the more ancient/outdated/broken exhibits would be updated/fixed.The live chick hatching area and the Idea Factory are always fun.
The opulent MSI gave space to the wonderful world that comic books created on the Atlas/Marvel side. Movie props and costumes mingle with original art by Gene Colan and most of the Marvel bullpen. After show, MSI has an outdoor grill fir some pleasant seating under trees before wandering back in for the March of time and technology.
This was on my list of big attractions to go to long before I moved here but ... Wow!! I was not ready for the sheer *everything* of it all!! There is a seemingly endless amount to see, learn, and do here. I am known to be able to spend half a day in a museum so for me to say that this is easily a full day thing, you better believe it is impressive. I dont even want to get into specific rooms/exhibits/activities because there are just too many to list! I will most certainly be coming back!!
Just love so much this museum! Can’t miss it while in Chicago! We’ve been members here for an year (which was a great deal). It has attractions for all ages, super interactive and interesting. I would say the only negative point is the parking that is super expensive, but you can find spots in the street (paid or free).
Last visited when I was in High School. Still an amazing place. German sub is a must see. Weather science is highly interactive, but could definitely be a long wait depending on crowds. Website needs better info regarding annual membership and parking fees. (Reduced vs free) boo!

2022-04-25Be prepared to be blown away. This massive museum packs so much to do and see. We (two adults) explored for 5 hours. I will say, there are plenty of sections kids will want to fly through - and others you might have to pry them away from. We selected tornado alley for the film we saw in the dome theater - a really cool experience. Wear comfy shoes! It’s a lot of standing and walking around. There are plenty of bathrooms and lots of vending and food options - for being a museum. You have to pay $22 to park on campus - which I found obscene but it is what it is. Definitely recommend coming here!

2022-05-27This museum was my first tourism stop in Chicago and it did not disappoint. They had well-executed interactive displays of everything relating to science and industry. Even a coal miner simulation! I enjoyed the exhibit on “you!” the most. It was interesting to see the modern wearable technologies and the different showcases of how our bodies change with age. I also thought it was very affordable to go. You could easily spend over 3+ hours here. I highly recommend for anyone visiting Chicago.

2022-04-02Plan for a whole day at least the first time you go. With all the interactive exhibits the whole family can enjoy. I liked the I spy windows. My oldest liked the energy of the future display with the flash window. My middle child liked the farming equipment and setting how they worked. My youngest liked the circus area with the fun mirrors and the imagination workshop. We all had so much fun that it was hard to think of our favorite things.

2022-01-16A truly excellent museum. I live in the DC area and have grown up near the Smithsonian, a very high quality and free set of museums in the Washington DC area.... This museum is of the same if not higher caliber of museums than any other I have ever experienced. The UBoat exhibit is deep in information and interesting. The entire museum is excellently curated and each exhibit area is worth the cost of admission.I highly recommend this museum if you are within an hour or so drive.Whether it is space, farming, transport, or general science, this museum has it all. Of course, being in the Midwest, the trains featured here are truly impressive, but what really stood out to me was some of the Apollo mission artifacts and history that was on display.Even with 4 and 6 year old children we still managed to spend 6 hours here without running out of interesting things to see!Great for adults and children.

2022-02-23Better than expected and much larger than expected! Dark Universe show was worth the extra expense. The Coal Mine your was interesting and the guide was charismatic, funny, and engaging. All the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Would love to go back and spend more time exploring.

2022-04-01Very fun place to spend 6 hours or so. I definitely would encourage anyone to see a movie on the globe theatre, and the interactive exhibits they have at the time. We were lucky and got to see the Lego exhibit!! So wonderful! There are a few little eaterys and places to grab drinks/coffee. We went on a Saturday and it was quite busy. If you are looking for smaller crowds I would say to go during the week. Lastly- prepurchase your tickets online and download them to your phone LITERALLY no waits and quick entry!!

2022-03-14The museum offers free days just make sure you check out the website prior to going. Most of the exhibit offers interactive stuff so its really good for kids and the entire family. Definitely would have to stay for a decent 2-3 hours if you want to learn more about the exhibits they have. Overall great experience! Will visit again soon

2022-03-26Amazing experience! Interactive exhibits. The U boat was incredible to see and learn about. Plan ahead if you want the tour - it sells out days ahead. Loved the ships exhibit. The space exhibit was cool with real Apollo capsules, but the area needs updating to include current space travel / Space X.

2022-02-28Came for the Lego exhibit and wow that was quite something. The artist really took his time crafting those sculptures. I’m not a museum person myself but I’d come again if they had another interesting guest artist exhibit on. Saw some of the other stuff while I was there. The airplanes in the sky were cool and the whole place looks like a great family trip to come to, so much to see and do, especially for the kids.
