The carne asada was perfectly delicious! Mom’s ‘regular house margarita’ was fabulous and, frankly, I thought the server made a mistake & brought her the ‘Super size house margarita’ because it was quite large, not that mom complained, lol! Everyone was very satisfied with their meal, the ambiance, the Mexican music, and excellent service. We’ll definitely return (hopefully soon!)
Excellent food even for vegetarians. Their single order of Fajitas was sufficient for 3 normal eaters and we ordered an extra player of rice and beans. Do not forget to ask them about habanero salsa if you are a true spice lover. Their fried ice cream was so - so but was looking super delicious. Ask about their interiors and they look a perfect spot to have mouth watering food with family. Got lots of dining space and an excellent bar setup 👌
Great Mexican restaurant. Their salsa can be spotty in terms of runniness & spiciness, but their dishes are absolute bangers. They provide the salsa on order, while giving a choice of flour/corn tortillas. Not all dishes will have that freely available however. I had a chicken enchilada deluxe in the photo, topped with beans, rice, greens, and a dallop of guac with some sour cream.Do come early! Their service speed really dips when youre late, and you could be waiting anywhere between 30 minutes - 1 hour for service.
Always enjoy this place. At times a bit understaffed but I understand everyone is in that position. I have it 4 stars because I feel some of the menu items are over priced. Ordered mi Mexico taco dinner and it was 21.00. For 3 tacos and rice I feel that is a lot of money.
This place was great! The servers were really nice, the enforced the mask rules (always appreciated!), and the food was good. I had the lunch chili rellenos and it was very tasty and not too expensive. The queso was a nice change! Not too many mexican places around have the queso dip, so that was a nice surprise as well. The margarita was also very nice :)
Great tasting food and drinks. They need better drink special prices and more options. Lunch price ended at 1:30. We arrived inside at 1:38 so though we were initially upset, we enjoyed the food so much and it was our fault we were late so we forgot about it. Tacos chicken quesadillas, nachos. Delicious!!
Great food, great atmosphere, great service. The food is amazing and delicious. They can make it the way you want. If you like spicy, they make it spicy. If you like mild, they make it mild. The servers are always friendly and on top of everything. As soon as you sit down they bring chips and salsa and take your drink order. Then after you order it doesnt take long for the food to come in a hot plate ready to eat. Portions are big and enough to feed you. Very reasonable prices on the food with an average of $10-$18 per plate.
Great food and service! The sever was courteous. The food we ordered was hot (very important for us) and delicious. We came in here as Plan B after we were ignored for 20 minutes at a nearby Korean restaurant. The experience here was total opposite. We enjoyed having dinner here. They made every experiences last night worthwhile.
The food was great. It was tasty and hot and the portions were generous. The prices were very much in line with the food that you received. The order was accurate the service was a little bit on the slow side. Seems like our server was a little bit distracted and she didnt check in with us for extended periods from time to time and we did have to flag her down. That being said she was responsive to getting things that we ordered except when someone requested water and I would say that she wasnt extremely friendly, but cordial.
Wonderful food & atmosphere !! Enjoyed dining outside w/cool temps & Sunshine ! 8 of us enjoyed Margaritas, good chips / salsa , nachos w/Chicken!! Chile Relleno, Chicken enchiladas w/Mole sauce!! Calmarones de crema, Chimechanga, Carbona de crema & Calmarones de salsa !! Huge proportions & took home 1/2 :) Lunch Specials under $12 each !! Staff was extremely Friendly & promp. Highly recommended! !!
Great atmosphere and really good food too. This was my first time here. Im going back and bringing more people with me!The selections on the menu are plentiful and reasonably priced. I had a shrimp enchilada and the both of them were stuffed from end to end with shrimp. They werent stingy at all with the fillings or sauces. There was also a pretty impressive tequila menu as well. Im a bit of a tequila aficionado. I tried an Extra Anejo our waiter suggested that I had not tried before and was impressed.Overall, Id definitely recommend this restaurant.
Outdoor dining space was pleasant for lunch, and we were well attended to by courteous wait staff. Large menu selection had a few items I had not encountered before, and generous portions allowed me a full to go box I was looking forward to finishing. I say was looking forward to because my son spotted the box when I got home and likewise found the Pollo Creama excellent, finishing it off before I got close to the fridge.
The atmosphere is amazing. The salsa is the worst part. Very runny and reminds me of ketchup. Wish it were a little more chunky and flavorful. The steak tacos were really good, but a little pricey. My wife had a burrito which was cheaper and looked fantastic. The margarita was pretty good, but Im also not a big tequila drinker so Im not a good judge on that.
If what youre after is large portions of greasy, cheese-covered food that is largely lacking in flavor, look no further.Service was fast and friendly, and the space was comfortable, but my food didnt really do it for me. I like cheese as much as the next person, but my entire plate was smothered in cheese and grease. The portion size was easily enough for two meals, but I passed on my leftovers because it wasnt very good.If you are here and desperate for some flavor and a tiny bit of heat, they do have a different salsa that theyll bring you if you ask for it.
My wife and I are from out of town and went here based on the good reviews. The food and atmosphere were good. I had chili verde and my wife had pastor pork. Both meals were excellent and the service was fast and friendly. They brought so much good food we couldnt eat it all and both left stuffed. We will return next time we are in the area.
The worst mexican food Ive ever had and the service was terrible as well.Update: Ive read your response, still the pandemia and being short staff its not an excuse for bad service and bad food. Thank you for taking the time to respond, you should also take the time to train your employees.
I don’t usually leave 1 star reviews, but I had the worst experience dining at this place with my family. We went in and the staff didn’t even greet us or ask how many we had and just grabbed menus and tried to seat us. The table didn’t even fit how many we had so we let them know and they brought us to a different table. Then they served us the wrong amount of water cups, menus and utensils. I politely asked for the appropriate amount. They seemed annoyed when I asked. Mind you, I’ve worked in the food/hospitality industry for more than 10 years as a kitchen assistant, dish washer, delivery driver, host, food runner, and server so I always do my best to treat them as politely as possible and give at least 18-20% tip minimum. Anyway, they proceeded to just bring back 1 more menu a few minutes later and didn’t bring any of the other stuff I had asked for. When I reminded them they again seemed annoyed and didn’t respond. They finally brought the water and utensils later after one of us had been sitting dehydrated without water for awhile. Then we ordered our food. We waited (no joke) probably close to half an hour for our food. And in the mean time when we asked for water refills (because water was all we had to drink/eat for almost half an hour) they just ignored us and walked past us. At this point I was thoroughly annoyed at how terrible the service was and firmly stopped one of them and asked for a refill on our water. The food ended up being mediocre at best and we had a ton of leftovers. It took us another 10 minutes just to get the check, then another 15 minutes for them to run the card and give us boxes. And I definitely wasn’t surprised when they didn’t even acknowledge us leaving. The male server that served us didn’t have the best attitude and another female server (or busser not sure) was incredibly rude and basically made it a point to ignore us for any help. Suffice it to say, we’ll never be back and I’ll make sure people know about our experience here. It’s really sad because my mom used to like this place. Please train your employees better guys, you guys are turning away good, honest, and well-tipping customers who just want a decent family meal.
This is a very nice and friendly family owned Mexican restaurant.Menu offers a big variety of dishes and appetizers, as well as beer and cocktails.I would definitely recommend to try Original Margarita. All dishes that I tried were very delicious and tasty.Staff is friendly and smiley. On the weekends there are a lot of people, so be prepared to wait a bit. There is a full bar so waiting is a bit easier. For parties of 6 people or more I would recommend reservations. For parties less than 6 people they dont take reservations.Give it a try , youll like it.
I celebrated my PhD this evening in this great restaurant. Well we passed a wonderful evening and the venue was evidently the reason for the fruitful gathering. The crew collaborated in a sweet manner, the cuisine was tasty and my buddies were very pleased. We shall absolutely visit again for more joyful events. thanks very much.
Cute place, the food is great. Gauc was really good. Chips and salsa were just ok. I had chicken enchilada suiza, and it was pretty good. I was pleasantly surprised by thier coleslaw it was tasty! Light and fresh. Different from creamy American coleslaw. Only issue was the service was a little spotty. We were a group of six. There wait staff could have been more attentive to our needs, I was needing a refill on my pop and needed napkins for most of my meal. Waiter hardly came around, we had to ask for him at least 3 times and it wasnt that busy. Other wait staff and workers were passing by, I was trying to get their attention, but it was like they were avoiding looking at us. And when we did get someones attention, they only said hold on and then we had to wait for our waiter again. I would recommend it, but you may be there for a while.
Went for my brothers birthday on a Saturday night. Had live music with a guy singing. Differently enjoy it. The food was huge portions, one dinner plate is enough for 2 people. Ordered chicken mole which I though was good. I would recommend for a higher end Mexican dinner
I call this excellent restaurant from time to time since I like the good air that is outline this restaurant. The team is highly welcoming and skilfull. The service is extraordinarily quick. Most important, the food they serve is magnificent. I frequent more than once and I was always pleased. The pay is modest. I recommend this restaurant to to all.
Great food, I mean really fantastic. I ordered shredded beef enchiladas. And the chips and salsa were so good.. the chips were so warm and fresh. But the service was just no bueno. Our server was polite, but, distracted and slow and forgetful. I asked twice for additional salsa and eventually had to ask another employee. I asked for a box with the check and I didnt get that either. My friend literally went over to their check out area to get me a box 😂. We were on our lunch hour while still at work, so, time was a bit of an important factor. We probably wont be able to go there again during our lunch hour because of how slow they were at every step of the process, bringing water and silverware, taking our drink order, bringing chips and salsa, taking our food order and bringing drinks.. just all of it.. which is unfortunate honestly bc the food was delish. 🌮🌯
I visit this marvelous place many times as I love the good mood that is part of this restaurant. The personel is highly welcoming and skilfull. The service is deeply fast. Needless to say, the food they prepare is highly distinguished. I have been there many times and I was always happy. The expense is decent. I suggest this restaurant to to all.
When we moved to the area we struggled to find a good Mexican restaurant, and we thought Mi Mexico Restaurant was our answer. The food was great, and the services was good. However, we will never step foot in that restaurant again I and encourage others to save your money. The manager is awful. My wife and I would order and the manager would not allow the kitchen staff to make the food as we had ordered it. Three out of four times they messed up my wife’s order, due to the manager who changed the order. We would have paid the extra money for what we wanted, but she interfered between the waiters and the kitchen staff. The last time we called ahead, and they changed our order. I asked her to make it right, and she was incredibly rude and would not make it right. We were spending a lot of money at this restaurant and we loved the food, but this manager has ensured that myself, my family, or our friends will never step foot in the restaurant.
Is this the best dine-in Mexican restaurant in Lake County? Quite plausibly, YES! This is a restaurant I would happily return to. The only problem is it can get very busy and service may suffer as a result, but that is a side effect of increasing popularity. I recommend their enchiladas. Enjoy!
Walking in you get the feeling that this place was once just a house in Wheeling. But the atmosphere of the place is great and wonderfully decorated. Moreover its the most authentic sitdown Mexican food Ive had in the area. The Mole was top notch. The chili rellenos my wife got was legit too.
I ordered a soup and found a piece of plastic in it. I told the waiter and he said that it was normal for plastic to be in the soup because of the chicken. I also got no apologies. The waiter was also very rude. I was asking for the manager and I saw her at the place and knew she was there, but the waiter said she wasnt there. I was always a client at that restaurant for many years but now I will never go back. The restaurant changed completely in a negative way. Very disappointed.
Traditional Mexican music over the speakers was a nice touch. Decor is a bit flamboyant but charmingly so. Pork burrito was very meaty. They noticed we were going through the medium salsa quickly so they brought us more plus a bowl of the spicy. Good food, enjoyable atmosphere.
I honestly dont understand how this place has so many high reviews. Went there for lunch today because my husband and I were looking for a good, local Mexican place. This was NOT it. The prices are outrageous for the low food quality. We ordered Camarones Huachil as an appetizer. A pound of frozen shrimp, thawed and served on bland vegetables. Definitely NOT worth the $20 price tag. Couldnt even finish it, and ended up not ordering any entrees at all. Despite the fact that our server was very nice, we will not be coming back.
I highly discourage people from dining at Mi Mexico Restaurant. I have had two terrible experiences involving the wait staff and their policies. First, they refuse to provide separate bills for parties of 6 or more. They wont tell you this beforehand and will just throw a massive bill in front of someone at your table and expect the paying customers to divide up the bill and split up the tax and gratuity. I have never been to an upscale restaurant that refuses to provide individual bills because they are too busy and would rather have customers spending their time to do the work for them. In addition, their staff is unfriendly and borderline rude to customers. The best part is their food is mediocre at best and the wait times are long. Until they improve their customer service and wait staff, I cannot recommend dining at Mi Mexico, even on one of their good days. At best you can expect mediocre food and lackluster service. Your money is better spent at any other Mexican restaurant.
I was hoping this was going to be good. Unfortunately it was anything but. I ordered the expresso burrito and it was like having soup with a tortilla on top. I make my own picadillo which has a lot of flavor, this burrito has very little. Even adding salt didnt bring it to life. I used to live in the Mecca of amazing Mexican food (Southern California) and this doesnt even come close. It reminds me of Chinese restaurants in NYC that makes Mexican food as well - WHY? This is the first and the last time I will order from here. There are other Mexican restaurants here in the area that can do better.
This was a nice place for a dinner with friends or family. The staff was very friendly. The food was good. The restaurant was clean. The restrooms were clean. However, its a bit odd to enter through the bar and the tables are relatively close together. It was rather busy but it still seemed as though our service was slower than it should have been.
I almost never feel the need to write a negative review but between the overpriced, flavorless and poor customer service here this is the worst my husband and I have ever encountered. Coleslaw was awful. My husband even refused to eat 2 of the 3 tacos he ordered. Hes never done that, I was shocked. I wanted to go here for about a year, needless to say Ill never go back. Go to Jimenez or El Famous about 5 minutes away from here. Only postive is the place looks nice and the rice and beans were decent.
We were seated at a very small table for 2 which was part of a larger table with 6 other people, not my idea of a quiet dinner out. I ordered a single, plain cheese chimichanga which was served to me smothered in a lot of guacamole, sour cream, lettuce and tomato and sauce on top. When I complained to our server, she just shrugged, didnt try to rectify the situation. I thought the menu was a little pricey. We wont be back.
Really great Mexican food, the salsa is extremely mild, tastes as if it is just tomato, that is my biggest complaint about the restaurant. Their carne asada/ skirt steak is a must have if you like steak. Tamales are ok, the masa is a little on the thick side and not enough pork. Outside of that everything else was delicious.
Although this place has an incredible drink selection the food is average at best. Flavors are blasé and uninteresting. The food never quite hits the spot. Also the cheese on the enchiladas was way too much and it didnt seem to be the standard Mexican mix type. Felt like a cheddar mix.
This is a fun place. They have a great ambiance in the restaurant with painted chairs and tables as well as your typical Mexican restaurant decorations. Food and service was good as well given it wasnt very busy when we went. Nothing really struck me as amazing about this place, though.
Authentic Mexican Food. Love - Love - Love the hot (spicy salsa)!!! If you like heat...ask for the hot salsa (You wont be disappointed).Great place to grab lunch Mon-Fri. If yu can get there by 11:45ish, youll miss the rush. Awesome lunch specials and theres even a patio for these warm days were having.Friendly staff... fast and efficient service. Everybody wins! :-)
Wish I could give -10 this place is terrible the food is disgusting, it honestly gives a bad name to Mexican’s Cuisine, if you are Latino you know we don’t eat enchiladas with Cheddar cheese or tacos!! All dishes come with a disgusting rice with no flavor and Cole slaw yesss you read it right cole slaw now if you are used to American food this place is right for you! And for the owners, I’m the customer that was given a dish with burnt chorizo I told the waiter he than switched my plate but unfortunately I was already too disgusted, NOT authentic Mexican food like I read other reviews please don’t go by them that was my mistake! Este lugar es para gabachos que no saben cocinar comida auténtica mexicana
Our first time ...arrived at 5:30ish on a Friday.Parking lot full....BUT it was no problem 🤗My husband and I were seated immediately, served quickly and I had the best chicken burrito😏 My huband enjoyed a chicken rice and bean plate that they put together for him to include only what he wanted. Thanks.🙂The server was great😎. I will return👌
Solid Mexican restaurant that will meet all of your expectations. Not amazing but consistently good food, service, and ambiance (over multiple visits and years). Guests sometimes get loud after a couple margaritas but generally you can ecpect pleasant night or lunch out.
I ordered the Filete Culichi, fish with Poblano cream sauce. The fish tasted as if I was frozen and at timed hard to cut with fork. The staff can reduce the sauce be 25% with out reducing quality. Rices and beans were rice and beans; same as you get at any other Mexican-themed restaurant. I do not accept being in the upper part of the country as a reason to not serve authentic mexican dishes.
Very authentic food! Weve never been disappointed with the food or the service. This place does get busy, but they have a lot of tables and a steady crowd so the wait is not too bad. Any wait is well worth it!BTW - their Diablo shrimp is something else! Diablo means DIABLO! Really excellent food all around.
Food is good, service OK, Management sucked. We will never step foot in this restaurant again as the Management was rude when we questioned a charge on the bill. There are many other Mexican restaurants that you can go to without having to deal with arrogant, rude management!
Food is good and service not bad but the customer service from the manager is terrible. This guy - GM (the owners son) should not hold this position as he is ruining their name. He has such a bad attitude dealing with customers, I asked for to go cup to take my ice tea with me and he would refuse. I am pregnant, had gastric bypass surgery and cannot drink at the same of eating so I wanted to take this with me as I paid for it. He was so mean and refused giving me one covering with some stupid GM rules. I have been there before and never had problem taking ice tea home with me. He is just this kind of person who wants to have it his way. I will never go there again neither will recommend this place to anyone.
The food is ok. If you like authentic Mexican food then this place is not for you. The prices for the amount of food you get are too high. The quality of the food is good but its definitely not very authentic dishes. Drinks are also ok but a little too expensive as well.
Visited this restaurant with entire family.Margaritas - superbbeer selection: great, mostly mexican beers, including draftsShrimp burrito was very tasty.what else i liked there:musicians were singing spanish songs making superb accords - really professionalguacamoles served: three levels os three dishes: spicy, medium and lightMy kids vere happy, my mother in law liked margaritas, everybody was happy.
The food is good..but these people are always in rush for closing. Happen to me 2 times where, I went there, and they said they r closed before their closing time. Specially the owners rude a** son. Never happy to see customers. So we dont go there..to stay aways frm his being there at work tantrums.

2022-02-12Went after work with some coworkers. We had the queso fundido for an appetizer. I was stuffed from chips and salsa and the queso fundido so I just got a steak quesadilla. Food was a little pricey but the quality is there.

2022-02-19Found this place searching for Mexican food- went in but the greeting lady was a bit rude ( that’s why I gave it 4 stars) But we decided to return kindness just wanted to give the restaurant a try. It was pretty empty, two tables with people. The waitress was so nice and took great care of us throughout our time there. The food portions were so big! Typical Mexican style.

2022-05-25Tried this place for the first time last weekend and loved it! Salsa tasted very fresh with a nice little kick and the chips were great also. Guacamole was also really good and tasted fresh. I had veggie fajitas and once again, everything tasted really fresh and the seasoning was fantastic. Our waiter was very attentive and super nice which is always a big plus so even though this is pretty far for me, I would definitely travel to go back there again.

2021-08-01The food was great and delicious, the service was horrible, we get it it gets busy but at least acknowledge your customers. We sat for almost an hour waiting for our check that is unacceptable. We had to go and get our check to pay our bill! So disappointed we have eaten here before and have never encountered this bad of service!

2021-07-12Big serving size, wide variety of food. I struggled with 5 or 4 stars. Overall the food and service was good and we had a large group so it took long to get the food out of the kitchen. The Mexican Trio was a lot of food that could easily be split. The carne asada and grilled chicken were tender, the Portuguese Shrimp were over cooked. The Tortilla Soup had very good flavor. The Queso Fundido was very good and so are their corn tortillas. The flavor was a bit bland overall except for the soup but I definitely would go back to try more, I almost did the whole fish which looked good.

2022-06-02Great place to dine in. We were a party of four and everyone had something different. My chicken quesidilla was delicious so were the different salads with meat and fish that the others had. A very large parking, great service and they make you feel at home. We enjoyed flan and coffee as we sat al fresco on the patio.

2022-04-29Been going there for about one year now. Brought many of friends there was very happy sometimes the service was a little slow and they had a hard time understanding but tonight they tried to cheat me had 7 people so they added a 20 per cent tip that was fine but when I ordered an order to go the added it to my in house and added 20 per cent .when I pointed it out instead of strighting it out they got rude and would not even try to make it right. Last time I ever go there. And will tell everyone I know how they are managed.poor poor poor
