Im not a Sushi eater but the rest of the menu caught my eye. The menu is quite extensive and the service was very good. This restaurant is a good fit for the Galesburg restaurant scene and should be given a try. Parking can be a little hard to find but at least there is public parking around the corner.
Walked in and the place was empty. There was a gentleman at the bar and asked how many we said 2 and he pointed to a section of booths, so we found a booth. Within site of the kitchen...not a good move. He dropped a couple of very dirty and broken menus, asked what we wanted to drink. Promptly bringing a foamy cup of tea and a glass of hot water of which I asked for with lemon but arrived just a glass of hot water. We perused the large menu for a minute. I was almost going to leave since all I could see were the filthy walls and dirty dishes cart (I believe we might have been the first customers of the day) assuming the dishes were from the night before. Ordered tempura veggies and rangoons. The rangoons were good, the tempura veggies lacked any flavor what so ever. Our lobster roll was anything but lobster. A definate fishy smell..and whatever it was made with, looked discolored and old. I couldnt finish the roll. In our quest to find a good sushi place and after driving from Peoria to try Masa, we wont be going back.
Im not sure how this place has so many stars? I went off the Google reviews. Literally the worst sushi Ive ever had in my life, including stuff purchased at grocery stores. In fact, Hyvee may have been a much better option. Thankfully Im here on a visit because I would never go back. Also the waiter was rude and impatient when I ordered and started pulling on me to get me out of the booth without my asking for his help. Now Im praying I havent gotten food poisoning. 🤢
I flew through here on a dead head and it was alright. I came and sat on another dead head and had two others, whom did not come in with me. I sat for probably 20 minutes waiting on them. The server just seemed to want me to leave or order without my party. He even tried to take the menus and informed me they werent coming. I insisted he leave the menus and assured they would be joining me. If I hadnt been so hungry and had two other people expecting to eat, Id have just paid for what I had gotten and left.. I wont be back.
Forgotten and wrong orders, took forever, no professionalism or personal space. Got here at 6:40, ordered after 15, got our food over a 10-min span around 7:40. Cancelled some of our food that had yet to arrive because we were just so done with being here and then they didnt remove them from the check. Foods great, service is absolutely awful.
Really wanted it to be great. Very slow service. Called ahead of time to make sure they cook the food in front of you and was told they do. But I think something was lost in translation, because the hibachi is in the kitchen. Love the style where they cook in front of you especially for celebrating two of our daughters birthdays...was very disappointing for that. The food was ok, nothing to write home about. Appetizers and main courses came out at the same time which made for a hectic dinner with us and our five kids. Long times in between seeing the waitress. Refills were almost non existent. She did clear plates away quickly. Would have been able to look past the minimal veggies on each hibachi plate and lack luster food that was only luke warm by the time we got to it, if it was actually cooked in front of us....probably wont make the trip again as it was 45 minute drive for us.
First time going here. I had a crunchy roll spicy tuna, and philli roll. To me personally, I think the non-meat ingredients tasted fresh however I didnt like that they shredded the protein for each roll and the lack of flavor/freshness to it.Their prices are great, but personally, I think Ill just get sushi at Hy-Vee next time.
Really quick service, very friendly staff and delicious sushi. Really recommend the Volcano roll! Had 4 different rolls and loved all of them. Ill definitely be going back next time I am in town, in Florida we have a sushi place on every corner and Id definitely say it was up there with all the places Ive been.
Definitely could have had better service but the food was great! Didnt notice anything dirty but our waiter could have been more friendly. Maybe he was quiet due to language barrier? He didnt pay attention to servicing refills, or checking in on satisfaction. Our food was not delivered all at once. That made it awkward to begin eating if not everyone had their order. Great food and pleasantly plated. Will return for great food!
Overall, there is a great understanding of flavor pairing and presentation that always leaves the customer with an overwhelming sense of satisfaction with each visit. The employees are polite and the service is speedy. The appetizers are a bit overpriced when considering proportions, but the flavors are rich and somewhat filling. The environment is perfect for dates, meetings and family meals.
Great variety of roles. Undoubtedly the best Salmon Ive ever had at a sushi restaurant. Other roles are great too! Sometimes a little understaffed but hopefully as more people go to this new restaurant that will change. Just be patient and you wont be disappointed. Super friendly staff and nice atmosphere. Chef special Tomo roll is to die for. Definitely better than the chain sushi restaurant in town, Ozaka.
Everytime I go through the drive thru and order Im always missing at least 1 item that I paid for with my hard earned cash its really frustrating how hard is it to read a order and place it in the bag I ordered a kids meal and a small frosty they charged me for a kids meal and small fry instead and still have me no fry or frosty just the kids meal
I got the sushi combo roll special of a spicy salmon roll and a yellowtail and... Something else. I cant recall, but the lunch combo rolls were fairly bland and the only way to extract any flavor from the sushi was with soy sauce and wasabi. The crab rangoon was good, so thats a plus.Maybe I got the wrong thing and need to give this place another shot, or not get sushi. I wasnt a fan.
I cant believe Galesburg had such great sushi! They have other options such as noodles and rice dishes if you arent into sushi. I went in over the holidays and it was quiet. I hope enough people support this business or it will go away like so many other small businesses in Galesburg.
My husband and I went here today around 3:30pm for an early dinner. It was us and another table only in the restaurant. Not busy at all. The food was Absolutely Horrible. Service was terrible to. No refills apparently allowed. Who knows. I asked the waitress what the difference was on the udon noodle compared to the soba noodle. Ones smaller then the other. Then the waitress shows me a picture of the Udon noodle in the soup. It was a flat noodle like a liquinni noodle. The waitress brings me out a bowl of noodles and steak that looked like earth worms or tape worms. So Gross. I did try it and it was slimy and discusting. I asked if I could trade it for the soba noodle instead. She said no. Ok. Then I asked if she could take half of the bill. Nope wouldnt do it. So we will not be back. We should of just stuck with the Osaka restaurant on Henderson. I will give them 1 star for their Tempura Shrimp Appetizer. Never will go back again.
Very tasty food. We had hibachi t-bone steak dinner and deluxe sashimi platter. They were able to prepare the hibachi dinner, which included fried rice, gluten free. Also packed our food in separate bags so that all GF food was clearly marked and in their own bag. Staff was very nice, but not very skilled in attending to my while waiting. And it took a long time to receive for. They estimated 25 minutes, but it was more than an hour. Even so, I would order food from Masa sushi again.
First off, this restaurant does NOT cook in front of you. Second, one of our group members ordered chicken and steak and another person ordered steak. The staff brought the combo plate came out without steak, and we watched the waiter take steak from the steak plate and add to the combo plate. They never filled the cups with ice all the way, the steak was over cooked, the sodas were flat, and the language barrier caused more issues. I would NOT recommend.

2022-04-14I ordered: miso soup, shrimp tempura roll, and hibachi new York steak entree. I travel for work so I eat at a lot of restaurants but let me tell you, I have never wanted to order the same food to-go immediately so I could eat it again for breakfast. This place made me want to do that. The steak was tender and not too salty. The rice was cooked to perfection, and the miso soup was on point. If I’m ever in Galesburg, I will come back here

2021-11-04A little hole in the wall that’s not too busy and packed with people. Food is always good and accurate. Portions are big. Service is friendly and pretty quick. Resturant and bathrooms appear clean.

2021-06-184+ stars is a bit odd for this place. Im pretty sure I ordered Chicken Katsu but what I received was chicken tenders with enough chicken to fill a large bucket from KFC. Im pretty sure there were roughly enough chicken breasts from 3 dead chickens and in the same plate was some fried panko strips. I think the panko might have been on the chicken at some point however Im not certain. I also cant verify if I received someone elses panko bread strips either as there seemed to have been a ratio issue between the breading and chicken. Oh, there was a small plastic cup of tonkatsu sauce that was tossed in the table near my chicken which was freshly taken from the fridge to table. I had a side of soba noodles which tasted like soba noodles which was a plus, but I wasnt too interested in the rice that we got as the person with me wasnt exactly fond of theirs. They ordered the chicken hibachi which seemed more like just stir fry chicken. We received a salad and soup with our orders too, yep salad at a sushi place. The salad was iceberg, roughly 1/16th of head, with a decent enough dressing. The soup was interesting. The server didnt say what it was but I was told maybe tofu, it was clear. However, to me it smelled like hot dog water and tasted mostly of cheese (slightly umami) so if I were to label it it would be cheese dog soup. Which, if thats what it was it was pretty legit. Then we left, sadly, yet fortunately, we didnt take any with us.

2022-07-10Ive been here a lot I really enjoyed it and really hated it at the same time its hit and miss depending on the chef and wait staff they will rush you like crazy to get out like they dont want you there then other times they are welcoming the chef specials are good but have gone down in quality and up in price. Its hard to say if Ill ever go back because last time was a joke the waiter would not leave us alone coming to our table every two minutes to rush us even though there was only one other table occupied he brought me my food before I was done with my appetizer he asked me about ten times if I wanted a refill he then brought my ticket before we even ate our food. When I confronted him about rushing us he just kept saying no I not no I not no I not like a little kid. It was embarrassing for all parties involved. If I go back I will be asking for a different waiter.

2022-06-03Grading on a midwest Sushi scale, not fair to compare to NYC & LA sushi places that blow your mind. Its fairly good but not worth the high prices. Usually courteous, good food but higher prices & wait times makes it a toss up.

2021-01-24The Godzilla roll is my favorite 😋 It was suggested by a neighbor, but didnt want to try it because I dont care for avocado too much. Glad I listened 😊The one thing that amazes me every time is how shes (the hostess/waitress) able to remember everything 🤯 Thats skill! Masa is an asset to the Galesburg community and enjoy the ambiance every time Ive gone. Cant wait to go back.

2022-06-12This place was recommended to me nd just WOW, I was impressed by the amount of food here I wanted a little bit of everything, the chefs really put a lot of love and effort into their foods especially their sushis, they even have their own type of liquors which I hope to try in the future, they also have a bar with any beer youd like, the menu is full of alot of options, if youre looking to get some good sushi along with sesame chicken, etc.., this is the place to go, when I came in the first time the vibe was very calm and welcoming, the waiters are very kind to you, this would be a perfect date for couples and perfect family time in my opinion.💯

2022-03-29Great atmosphere, the Calamari hibatchi dinner I had was great, as well as the sushi(Spicy Crab roll) I had purchased. Looking to stop by again sometime and try the Udon, as Ive never had the chance to eat Udon.
