We happened on this place as a result of the tourist maps given at the visitors center to the kids. It wasn’t supposed to open until 4/1 for the season but they let us in early anyway as it was March when we went. So go after 4/1! It was really cool. You can stand there and envision Lincoln giving his address as you read the plaque. It’s an essential visit in Springfield if you are doing all of the Lincoln sites!

Nice to see law firm has restored and is maintaining the building. A portion of the original steps was interesting. It was great having Abraham Lincoln interpreter give farewell address when he headed to Washington DC in 1861.

Small and free piece of history that shares space with a law office (upstairs). Self guided. Takes no more than 15 minutes. Grab a pamphlet of Lincolns speech he made at this place before leaving for Washington DC. Its a moving speech. Depot is a 5 minute walk from the Lincoln home National historic site.

It is a simple exhibit with some photos and a few historical items. There is a good video describing the lead up to Lincolns departure from Springfield and the trip to Washington. It was self guided when we visited and we spent about a half hour there mostly watching the video.

Most people might pass this little building and not stop in. Please do so as it is filled with artifacts and a continuous loop movie on Lincoln leaving Springfield. Fascinating!

This is the place Lincoln departed from as he headed to take his appointment as President. Its a humble museum worth visiting. It smells really nice. You will get to see what a train station looked like back in the day and a cool safe which survived two fires.

Not much there but nice anyway as a side trip.

Very nice. Thank you for allowing the History to remain even with half of the building being used as a law office.

This was closed on the weekend so we didnt get to go inside but still a neat piece of history to walk around. We also squished, none other than, Lincoln pennies on the railroad track as souvenirs to take home.
