Most extensive deli counter I have ever seen in my life.Been going here 8 years,NEVER disappointed in any way! Management somehow found a way to motivate the super friendly and helpful staff that no other store has figured out!HUNGRY? Go the the way back corner taqueria/ buffet! Desserts? Insane!.... family owned and operated businesses ,in my opinion, just try harder! Marianos its bad,but its corporate owned, and it shows.
This is a great place to do your groceries for the week, all vegetables are fresh and the best price around the northeast of Illinois Lewis Fresh Market give you a variety of products, services and areas where you can buy cooked meals from the restaurant and area where employees can cut your meats, fishery, bakery, poultry area and this place is full of friendly and helpful employees to give you the best experience in shopping your food or groceries 💯% recommended 🛒🍇🍈🍉🍊🍋🍌🍍🥭🍎🍏🍐🍑🍒🍓🥝🍅🥥🥑🍆🥔🥕🌽🌶🥒🥬🥦🍄🥜🌰🍞🥐🥖🥨🥯🧀🍖🍗🥩🥓🌮🌯🥙🥚🥘🍲🍝🍤🍨🍩🍪🎂🍰🧁🍽🍴✔
Insane collection of green fresh vegetables. Good stock of Mexican and Indian food too, large variety of tofu available. One of the best fresh Mart around after Marianos though its not as expensive as Marianos. Love going there every time. Very courteous staff. Highly recommend.Pro tip : keep some space for assorted mega cookies at the end if your shopping.
I havent stopped in here in awhile. Super surprised on how clean the store was. They have also added a lot of already cooked foods. Flautus ribs, chicken, empanadas, rice, plantains, tacos, gyros!!! Plus a huge amd I mean huge salad and soup bar. Lots of Asian choices. Fried rice, white rice, orange chicken... Plus all the employees where nice. They seemed happy and smiling. Two different employees addressed me as sir!!! I was super impressed and proud to see that the city I live in has such great products, people and service.. Thank you!!sas efcharistó!!
What an amazing assortment of produce, meat and seafood, cheeses, spices and dry goods. I have to do back as there is just so much to see. The prices are just as good and the employees are super friendly. Store is also clean, organized and well stocked. My new go to shopping stop!
Great for produce and meats, including custom cut. Also, excellent selection of ethnic groceries that are well organized. A bakery, too, with a variety of pan dulce and other baked items, even taking special orders. Combine that with deli, seafood and prepared food and you have a winner.
I love Lewis Fresh Market, always have. But they couldnt care less about masks, social distancing or capacity limits. I was there 2 days ago and ended up not buying anything and walked out. It was packed to the gills. People breathing down each others necks. Workers with masks below their noses. Absolutely zero awareness about pandemic. Do better Lewis.
Now this Spot IS THE SPOT!!!! Especially in the back of the store where all the YUMMY DELICIOUS HOT FOOD IS!! Theres soo much to choose from, decent priced for the portions as well!! You can dine-in or carry-out! This is definitely my Go-to spot now, just mad Ive gone this far without having any clue about this gem of a spot!! Oh well better late than never!!🤗
Place is consistently crowded both in the parking lot and within the store itself, which may prove to its success as people scramble about the aisles. The layout leaves plenty of room for customers to shop about when its not rush hour which may be hard to find as it seems like the place is always in rush mode. The selection of produce is quite wide and the recently expanded sit-in restaurant allows for some snacking, dining, and take-home meals. The shelves are consistently stocked well and theres rarely ever a complaint concerning the staff there. Service is speedy and the place is relatively clean for the amount of foot traffic they have flowing through.A great one stop shop kind of locale
I am a newish customer. I really like their meat and produce is outstanding. There is extensive international choices which I am just beginning to explore. Really like their salad bar. There is also hot food available along with soup. The staff is friendly and professional.
I like Lewis fresh market off on Grand avenue in Waukegan in their deli section I love getting the butter breaded shrimp and their barbecue beef ribs and rib tips very very good like mouth watering thinking I want some now, haha everybody is practicing safe distancing which I think is a sham, thats my opinion, the store is very clean and customers and people are very polite all the other food from the a la carte line is very very good and its kept fresh if you want to get the fresh cooked food that they have like the shrimp and the meats and stuff they got fried vegetables which is really really good tastes like its been grilled you want to get that food before 4:35 p.m. at the latest because the food starts drying out I noticed that the breaded shrimp dries out I bought some around 6:00 p.m. and they were kind of hard to chew so you want to get your food early best time to get the food is in the afternoon very fresh very delicious they have a good fish section there too
Best place to buy all your groceries, they have a great deli selection, amazing bakery and also if you are hungry when shopping just stop for some delicious fresh squeezed juice or some tacos they have the best restaurant in the back, they have everything in one stop.
I like this store they offer a wide variety international items. They also have a great selection of fruits and vegetables. The down side are some items are very expensive. For instance Coffee Mate Creamer was over $5.00 for a 32 oz container. Cheaper at Meijer or Walmart.
Always like getting my fruits and veggies here. They are always in good condition and fresh. Thats what I mostly get here and my meats as well. Other things can be a bit expensive but overall I like this place. They have a variety of groceries from other countries and isles are specified well.
Great assortment of food items from various regions of the world. Fresh produce including vegetarian and organic options. Very comfortable shopping environment, the aisles are wide enough to pass by another shopper without bumping into them with your shopping cart. The belts on the shopping carts are wide enough to hold a three year old child comfortably. Prices are comparable to other produce markets in the Chicago land area. Cashiers checked shoppers out in a timely manner, avoiding long lines and wait time.
A very good selection of different produce. All your basic fruits and vegetables are here. Their deli has a large selection of your meats and cheeses as well as homemade salads. Meat area is descent. They also have an area of prepared Hispanic foods, ready to eat. Also have a large bakery with an assortment of baked goods and custom cakes to order. They also have a taco bar at the entrance. Prices are reasonable. A few negatives I have are that its always crowded, lines are quite long and parking is also crowded.
Its a great place with a lot of variety. Lots of produce found nowhere else. However, the aisles are narrow and people just seem to loiter in the aisles making decisions and what not blocking your way if you have a shopping cart. Avoid this place on Saturday afternoon.
I’ve been going to this store for many years. Every time I go there I always have issues with the prices. I always have to be watching the prices when they scan the items cause the prices always come higher than the price tag, and that bothers me a lot. Yesterday 08-26-2020 they had a cereal sale for .99 cent ALL variety of kellogs cereals limit 6. So I grabbed 6 kellogs boxes and when I got to the register the cashier told me that they were regular price, I showed her that the sign said that ALL variety of kellogs cereals were .99 cents so she went and asked a lady named Maria, maria came to me and told me in a very rude way that they were regular price and That the price sign was wrong that they were regular price. Bottom line please check the prices when they scan your items cause they’ll be charging you way more. Imagine if they do that all the time. How much money they have been stealing from us. WATCH OUT.
Huge produce selection with the best pricing I can find. They have a wide variety of Hispanic, Asian, and even polish or other random European foods. We dont usually buy our meat here so I cant speak to the quality, but everything else we have purchased from Lewis is great. They also have a delicious little taqueria in the front entrance.
This is a great place to go for fresh fruit and vegetables. However, you need to be prepared to use a lot of the fruit right away because it may go bad on you if you dont. Deli meat and cheese are good. But, you need to be selective. The olive bar is great. I would not go here for meat or seafood. A solid selection of hard to find international food items. Bakery looks pretty good. But, heavy on the sugar and fat.
Ive shopped there frequently since they opened about ten years ago. They have the best produce in town. Their wide variety of fresh fish and meats, deli products, fresh baked goods and dry goods reflects the cultural diversity of the neighborhood. And, their customer service is terrific.
I love the diversity of choices in the ethnic food selections! You can travel around the globe culinary just by walking up and down aisles. Plus, the produce is fabulous. There are some good deals in the meat department too. However, I feel that the store and the bathrooms could benefit from a thorough scouring and cleaning. The stores cleanliness is not the best. The bathrooms need to be cleaned throughout the day.
The Lewis Fresh Market has a lot of items from areas not in the United States but in Asia and in Europe and Africa. This allows you to get Foods you would not normally have in the United States. Be store is very clean and it has many items that you will enjoy because they are also in the United States as well. There are places where you can sample something and there are places where you can look at many different items and choose as you wish. One of the other things about that store is it is very economical in most places in the store and you will get very good food as well. You will find many foods in that store that you will not find in most grocery stores in America.
If your looking for Mexican food then this is the place to go. Gave it three stars because some of the meats and fish didnt look too fresh. Plus asking for helping in English was a task. I guess being a Mexican fruit market theirs nothing but Mexican work there. I have no complaints about that but me not speaking Spanish I could not ask for where items were located in the store. It may be different in The day time. I went pretty close to closing hours. In short I would go there again
I like the produce selection from this place. Prices are ok but not the best. The service sucks from the cashiers, not very attentive, machine like. However, at the taco/juice bar everyone is very attentive and helpful with the exception of 1 or 2 guys that attend there, every time I ask for specific things they completely mess my order but everyone else, never and issue. This place is very convenient from home.
This is my regular weekly stop for most of my grocery needs this last year , so I will give a detailed review.Fruits & Vegetables : probably the largest variety in the area-very competitive prices. Only downside is you do not get the shelf life you can get at Jewel. Then again that might explain the different price levels. This is the only place I can find dragon fruit in the area consistently.Groceries: Being Hispanic , I can find anything I need here. They also have a vast selection of imported international products which are A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. You have to try the Caprice sweets . They are out of this world. Not that much of a selection when it comes to American groceries and you can probably find them at a better price at Sams Club or Walmart.Fresh Meat: Hands down this is the best meat market in the area. You can find anything ranging from ribeyes and t-bones to oxlips , beef hearts , kidneys etc etc. Sure you will not find a Tenderloin for that special occasion but you can feed your family with fresh quality meat for nearly half the price you would pay at Marianos. Chicken prices are absurdly low and I have not come across any sour product up until now. However If you prefer your meat cut to order I suggest you visit the other Lewis on Lewis Avenue. The counter has a larger variety and the butchers are more helpful.Problem is the store is much smaller so you can probably only buy Meat and Produce there.Deli: This has to be the largest deli counter in the Town. Prices seem competitive but I do not enjoy processed meat in general so I cannot comment on the quality/selection .Dairy and Frozen selections are pretty limited but the Bakery makes the best tres leches and conchas in the area. There is also a small flower stand in the front and the cashiers have been helpful most of the times.I have only 2 small complaints. Workers at the fish counter are rude and really unprofessional. They spend more time on their phones rather than serving customers. I actually waited 10 minutes one time and a woman from the deli counter had to call someone 3 times before he showed up.The prepared food section is disappointing. The food is bland. No flavor whatsoever. You would expect an authentic taste on staples like barbacoa and carnitas but that is not the case. Fried chicken is dry and greasy. Soups are pretty decent. To sum it up - if you had to do all your grocery shopping in one store in Waukegan - this is it. Enjoy!
I like coming here because they have almost everything Im looking for but the only issue I have coming here is if Im not with my husband and I come alone Im always getting harassed by the men in the meat section. Ive already complained about it and no one does anything to change that which is disgusting! I hate how women are being treated here and how no one does anything about it. I dont go in there to get attention either I go to get what I need and be done but I have to avoid that part of the store to save myself from feeling subjected to their actions that clearly the store feels no need to do anything about. They need better management.
I have always thought this store to be awesome. However there have been a few experiences that are starting to taint my view of this place. Around Halloween I noticed that they had a voodoo alter set up with a bunch of dead celebrities, and offerings to the dead. I didnt really know how to take it, but I just ignored it. But today I go in to buy some chicken and I am really taken a back, at the ignorance practiced by at least one cashier and one manager or owner... I expressed my concern over the use of windex around food, I mentioned that this was poisonous and it should not be used where food is. This complaint was ignored and I was not offered an apology... I had to walk away from this ,simply because I really felt more like I would say something I couldnt find my way back from... I mean who am I to complain when poisonous substances are being used around MY food... I mean its only something I have to eat... right... I will continue to shop here only because of the choices... however, once I find a place the has a much better choice this place will certainly be in my rear view mirror....
Absolutely freshest vegetables and meats Ive ever seen. Such a wide assortment of both. If you cant find what you need here at Lewis foods in Waukegan you dont need it!Also all the employees that have come in contact are very helpful and always willing to show me where things are located and not just point over there.
Lewis has a great produce section, with great prices. Some of the vegetables taste like theyve been dragged behind a truck through gravel, even after you wash them. They make up for these great prices by jacking-up the prices on just about everything else in the store. Many items in the dairy section are way overpriced in particular, not to mention frequently expired. The steaks from Mexico are terrible so dont be tempted by that. No marinating in the world will fix the shoe-leather texture. The staff are of absolutely no help, and will either pretend not to understand English, or send you on a wild goose chase. This is not the case with the female staff, who are typically very helpful and friendly, but the men are the exact opposite and Ive had years of experience with this. Dont dare use the bathrooms. To say they are gross is an understatement. Of course, if you dont need toilet paper or hand towels, you will be fine.
This store has a good selection of international goods. I did my weekly grocery shopping when I lived in the area. I recently was visiting Waukegan and stopped by for a purchase. I purchased dried meat on July 14th while the Sell by Date was June 30th. That is a very long time for them to detect and replace the item. I contacted customer service via Facebook. They were willing to help but I had no receipt. I did not keep it because I never return groceries.
Looks nice, prices are good with a large selection of produce though 90% of their products are Genetically Modified or GMOs also containing many harmful chemicals and many carcinogens (cancer causing ingredients) They seem to now hire more English speaking staff, the staff is not always nice, though after many years of shopping here a manager whod become an associate of mine warned to never by the meat. The meat contains many carcinogens also that is injected into or fed to the animals they come from is usually old, steaks are not real and are treated with a sort of red dye and repackaged when it becomes brown. For this reason I no longer buy the meat but I do still love the store for its national variety of products being that other countries do no allow or Genetically engineer their food as in the US and they ban items or ingredients that are harmful to consumers. The good thing is in the past few months Ive seen less watermelon sized apples, oranges, beets, onions, avocados , tomatoes etc so they may be working on a healthier more natural produce selection.About 10yrs shopping honest review. 😃
Huge variety of in season produce and wide ethnic grocery items. I love it more every time I go . I have never experienced a rude or incompetent employee or expired or bad food. I been comming here weekly for over a year . These bad reviews must be from people having a bad day. Honestly this store is one of the things that makes living in Waukegan bearable .Update years. I still love this store today I got smoked ham and a loaf of fresh baked wheat bread. It was still warm . That smoked ham the sweet wheat and a bit of spicy mustard made a great quick meal . Had to update this review. Still the best store in Waukegan .
Lewis Market is a fantastic place for everything. From produce to fresh meats, breads and seafood, you will not be disappointed. Perhaps you are seeking ethnic goodies to make that wonderful authentic meal. Well, Lewis has you covered and some.Lewis is truly a foodie emporium and the prices are fantastic. No price gouging here. Only excellent quality, great selection, at fantastic prices. As an example, I purchased 2 slabs of raw St. Louis Style ribs......wait for it.....total price for 2 slabs...$7.70...one slab was $3.89, the other $3.81...both slabs had 12 meaty bones....CMON..Where else can you get such a great deal? I will include a pic of my deliciously tender, finger-lickin slab creation. And for those who may not know, one slab of St. Louis ribs at your favorite BBQ restaurant costs on average $23-$25....enough said😮.In addition to all the great grocery shopping goodness, there is a Taco stand at the entrance.Yes, yes, yes! You MUST stop by and try something after your shopping haul. You Must! The tacos are excellent, especially the shrimp tacos. Should you be uber hungry, there is a HUGE burrito that definitely serves at least three. And again, the prices for these made to order goodies are so, so reasonable....dare I say CHEAP!Well, now you know, so watcha waiting on....oh, you are reading this review after hours and Lewis is closed? Well, as soon as feasible, please head over to Lewis and take the time to explore and get some greatness at excellent prices.I Love Lewis Market and so will you.
Place is okay. Big carts, small isles is a nuisance. Feel like there is always such long lines to check out and its more convenient to jst leave your cart and go somewhere else and shop due to the long lines. Gets discouraging when there is so many people in the place you have to shop like a mad woman. A bigger space is definitely needed so its not such a cluster in there.
I purchased tamales since my usual place did not have any left. They were 1.50 each (I usually pay 9.00 dzn), a little expensive for me but I bought six anyway. They were the by far the worst tasting tamales I had ever had. I will never purchase tamales from them again. I called to speak with the manager and was on hold for a little over 5 minutes so I hung up and called again. I again asked to speak with a manger and was placed on hold again but not as long, a customer service person picked up the call but I wanted a manger. Tom then came on the phone and was very nice and understanding. He offered to make things right when I go back to the store, I dont think I will. This was my second time there since it opened.
Pros/Cons - Pros: This Place is CLEAN. I love to shop in this place for cheap but rare speciality items, such as authentic imported from around the world! PRO: I love the really cool variety of imported general and health products! PRO: I also shop here weekly for other type items from around the world such as teas, drinks, oils, powders, booze, country specific specialities, spices and more! more! PRO: Best place to come to try out other authentic imported trends culture around the world! PRO: I also buy 95% of my produce, because you can not find a better deal without compromising flavor. PRO: Mexican bakery is delightful and different to regular Americanized bakerys. PRO: LARGE variety of fresh cut meats and seafoods at very low prices. Bulk pricing makes it even cheaper (and when I say cheap I mean it is very low priced, such as $1.79 per pound ground beef) Since I do NOT shop meat here (I have organic cuts delivered from an online service weekly) I can not vouch for the flavor or quality. I can only confirm the price value and variety of the meat and seafood department. CON: ALL OTHER AMERICAN AND GENERAL. FOOD ITEMS SUCH AS MILK, FROZEN FOODS, EGGS ETC ARE LESS FRESH AND TRIPLE OVERPRICED. All in all I do LOVE THIS MARKET
I went here last week and I was very disappointed after coming home. First off I realized that some of the stuff I bought was already expired from 2 days old to even A MONTH OLD! How often do they really check their stuff, it should have been removed! My experience shopping was awful, place was too crowded and had so many people who dont know anything about personal space. Never coming back, Im sticking to my local Walmart.
Great grocery store. Reasonable prices on everything, awesome selection of ethnic produce and dry goods - both Mexican and Asian.Has some decent deals on take-out food as well - there is a little taco/burrito place at the entrance and a pre-made food counter in the back of the store that sells everything from rice (mexican, chinese, indian and more) to wings and ribs.Excellent values on produce and meat. Since this store caters to immigrants youll find some cuts of meats that are hard to find at your typical big box grocer: pork belly, liver (pork, beef and chicken), even whole pork heads.

2022-03-17First of all, great prices on fruit and vegetables. Couldn’t believe the deals. Saving my family money, thank you!And second, they not only had the rare cut of meat I needed (picanha) but I only needed about half of the smallest package, which was 8-9 lbs. the deli worker opened it, gave me half, weighed and labeled and wrapped the packages and I was able to buy exactly what I needed.Great customer service, and a great product. Will definitely return.

2021-03-06This place is the best, especially when your looking to get the best value for your money spent. The service is very helpful and sincerely friendly throughout the store. All the departments are great, especially the produce selection which is large with lots and lots to choose from at fantastic prices, even for organic. It has a really nice freshly made pastry area where you select your items and they wrap them. The hot bar and salad bar are the best deal anywhere with a large selection and great prices per pound. Wish I could have taken more photos but the store was full of customers because they have lots of items to choose from.🤗

2022-03-08This is a clean store with several additional services. The fresh produce area is a third of the store and a big reason for me going there. The store also has aisles which feature different cultural foods and has a large fresh bakery section and hot meal section. The store also has friendly, helpful staff on hand.

2022-07-30I do like the produce. However, the staff and management is not anywhere near there store off Lewis (between Sunset and Glen Flora). This location looks better from curb appeal, but everything else is just better at the original location.

2021-06-24🤠🤗🤩I love this store. This is the best store in the area for produce or meat. Their Seafood counter is amazing, fresh salmon fillets, the fish counter butcher will filet the salmon while you wait.✔️ Lunch meats and cheeses, to numerous to mention. ✔️Hopefully my photos will shine a light on a hidden Gem of a store.💎 The word Supermarket does not begin to describe the extensive ethnic items they have stocked.🏩 🎎Their prices for produce and meat and seafood are competitive with any store in the entire region. 🌄Their sale items on meats are amazingly low and usually a time for stocking up. Some of the Box items are more expensive but I usually dont go to Lewis fresh for boxed items. I go for their fresh items! You wont be disappointed by the selection and quality here. So, I had to add on to my review after the cafeteria has been opened, will be posting the pictures now, the breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings is tremendous, see Mr Torres, hes awesome!

2022-07-23Absolutely the best market with a variety of international goods! Arabic, indian, asian and of course Hispanic. This market is probably one of the only places that carries unique goods in this city. It has been here for a decade now and I would definitely recommend this place.
