Leonidas Cafe Chocolaterie in other cities:
So glad I stopped in here while doing errands. Lots of delicious pastry options (I got the enormous, decadent chocolate brownie to go with my latte and a chocolate croissant for my spouse) and I grabbed a bag of heart chocolates that were gone within a few days of bringing them home. Ive also had the very tasty crepes in the past, looking forward to coming back with friends this summer.
Great cafe with both pastries and cooked items (crepes, quiche, sandwiches and omelettes). They have a whole bunch of chocolate and caramels that looked really nice as well but I didnt get any.My friend and I came on a weekday morning and each got a waffle and some coffee and ate outside at one of their small tables that fits 2. We waited less than 5 minutes for our coffees and less than 10 minutes for our waffles.Right across from the metra station so perfect for a quick bite in the morning before taking the train.
I asked for a crepe with Nutella banana and strawberries and when they gave me one with no Nutella I politely asked for one with Nutella and said it was a mistake but the lady said flat out No and refused to make me one and then didn’t even give me a refund. Such a bad experience DO NOT GO HERE!
Delicious chocolates surround you in the display cases but the rising smokiness in the atmosphere gives me delusions how I feel about this place. I ordered a ham and cheese quiche. The quiche is 3 in half inches diameter, mostly their roll, wonder as I am eating my quiche where is the ham, I think I saw 2 maybe 3 small squares pieces, but the food is tasty. I give the place second chance.
My senses have never enjoyed chocolate so much. Simply walking by the shop my nose told me we had to stop. My traveling companion and I accidentally walked in through the back kitchen entrance the aroma was so good. Choosing the sampler of three items was the best choice. Small in size, we savored everything on that platter for what felt like an hour.
I called ahead to see if I could still walk in and buy something. The lady told me she was closing in 30 minutes. I rushed from work to get there 25 minutes later, only to find their door locked. Please don’t lie to customers. I would not have wasted my time if you had been truthful. I really needed something special for a gift today.I will never shop here after this experience.
One thing I noticed is that at that time it was one lady working. I think they should have one person to cook and one for cashier, but she was running back and forth trying to complete orders. This was on a Tuesday morning before 8 and it was a little busy. Because its holiday themed, I got Turkey, brie, and cranberry croissant and the vegatable crepe. The croissant sandwich I didnt like. Turkey tasted like it was out of a sandwich pack, brie was cold and bland, and cranberry was cranberry. The brie threw it off. The vegatable crepe had mushroom ,spinach, and thyme. The filing and crepe batter needs to be seasoned more I feel.

2022-05-10Amazing little cafe with yummy treats and baked goods. We had a waffle with strawberries and whipped cream. It just tasted so fresh and home made. It was delicious. My 4 year old loved picking a few chocolates from the display too to take home. Loved the experience!

2022-02-13Great ambiance, great bfast options and really good chocolate! Smoke salmon crepe is fantastic, cheese and ham croissant too.The extremely dark hot chocolate is phenomenal, not sweet but with a very hearty chocolate flavor.Spicy apple cider is also very unique!

2022-07-19I mentioned to the young woman (Madison), who took my order, I had oral surgery and that I had to eat something soft. I was also apprehensive about ordering a smoothie because of the possibility of seeds. So, I ordered a peach iced tea instead. I ordered a quiche because I thought it would be soft. When I got the quiche it had a well done harder crust all around the quiche. I tried to eat the inside but there wasnt much I could eat. Madison should have told me there was a harder crust on the quiche. When I mentioned to her that I couldnt eat most of the quiche because of the crust, she just said Im sorry. She should have told me how it was made before I ordered it. I would have ordered something else. This was my first and last time here.

2021-06-19I can’t believe it took me 3 years to come here. The breakfast sandwiches, quiches, and pastries are very good. I haven’t had one of their freshly made crepes yet but will be doing that next time. Great place for a quiet breakfast.

2022-04-15Wow, how did I never stop in here before? Its like a little slice of European sophistication in Evanston! I had assumed that this was just a chocolate shop, but I was very, very mistaken. However, they do have beautiful and expertly made chocolates that I am excited to give as gifts this Easter. I will be back for crepes!

2022-06-02Take your Leonidas chocolates made in Belgium with you and run! The place is minuscule, the set up has no good ventilation while they cook in the room, not working and the Viennese pastries are reheated until they sell. The only thing that make me smile is their Mexican help who steal them blind.

2019-10-06Lovely cafe with great atmosphere. Central Avenue in Evanston has a lot of choices for coffee, but Leonidas stands out for the quality of its food and the calm atmosphere. Its not a Wi-Fi kind of place and no folks staring at screens were evident. Its much more a spot for meeting friends or taking grandchildren for a treat.I didnt try the chocolates or the macarons, but both appeared beautifully presented. The selection of crepes was excellent.

2020-01-12Their crepes and sandwiches are really good and always love to go their when I’m craving a savory crepé. Only complain is that their espresso drinks are variable depending on the barista.
