Very pleasantly surprised to find such a wonderful salon in Evanston! (We just moved here ☺️) I waited a week to review and both my daughter (6yo) and I love our haircuts. She was apprehensive going to the salon but came out smiling even after a proper chop. The team at Kami really made us both feel very welcomed and safe.
I’ve been coming to Kami for haircuts for about 4 years now, and I don’t think I’d go anywhere else! The service here is great and the price is very reasonable in comparison to other Asian hair salons. There’s also a student discount but now I’m too old to qualify anymore... sad. They also wash your hair pre and post cut as part of the service.I always ask for Grace whenever I’m here. She’s very attentive and will always give me her honest opinion whenever I have questions regarding the haircut or if I want to try something new. Additionally, I’ve never had any issues with any of the haircuts she’s done for me. She’s also a great person and is very friendly; I personally enjoy talking with the stylist whenever I go to a hair salon so it’s a big plus for me. I highly recommend you ask for her if it’s your first time here!
I absolutely love this place!!!! Grace did my hair and she was so kind and considerate, really asking me how i felt about it all the way through. it was my first time coloring my hair so i felt nervous, but all the staff were super welcoming and made me feel comfortable and at ease :) would definitely go again and recommend to a friend!!
Grace did a fantastic job with my highlights. She really gave great care and attention to detail with my hair. She kept me informed of the next step with my hair and she kept checking in if I was comfortable overall. Very professional and incredibly friendly! Ill be asking for Grace again next time!
I felt so relaxed and welcome at the salon, Grace gave me a thorough consultation. She got my cut exactly how I wanted! Also she find the right color best flattered my skin tone. Love this place and definitely going back!
I cant speak enough praises for this salon. My first visit was out of convenience, as it was close by. Three years later, Maylin is the only person I will let touch my hair. I can sit back and let her do what she thinks will look best, and I always leave feeling more confident than I deserve.The staff are all welcoming and attentive. Everyone treats you kindly.The price is astounding. I would happily pay double the amount for the level of service I receive.10/10, would reccomend to everyone. Best Salon in town.
I went in for a basic mens haircut with Maylin after seeing that this salon has such great reviews. This was my first of many visits. Ive finally found someone who can give me a top notch mens haircut with amazing precision to detail. I would highly recommend to anyone. They are right around the corner from the Davis stop a few doors west of Bennisons (bonus!).
I made an appointment with Kami Salon for later that day with no issues. I came into the salon to get assistance with a hair donation and it was a group effort from all the available staff to make sure my hair was sectioned and measured correctly. Afterwards, I got a great haircut and then my hair was curled and styled (since I mentioned I was going on a date later) free of charge. I also received a discount for paying in cash. Great value, great experience, and I recommend it!

Tried out Kami Salon for the first time today! I was a little worried about trying a different stylist, but Grace did a fantastic job cutting and dyeing my hair! She provided all sorts of helpful suggestions for styles and hair care, and made sure that I was completely comfortable throughout the entire experience. Definitely coming back here for all of my haircuts.
Great hair salon with stylists who pay attention to detail and dont take any shortcuts. A nice perk is that they wash your hair before and after the haircut, which is included in the service. Afterwards, they take a few minutes to style your hair too. I recommend this place for men and women, regardless of hair style.
I had an appointment with the mindset of changing my entire look. Maylin was mindful of everything I wanted to do and how it would compliment me. Even down to how I should part my hair. She and her assistant (didnt get a name but she had red hair) estimated it would take 3 hours, but worked on my hair for 4 hours to get my hair right! They went past the listed closing time to make sure my hair got the treatment it needed. I was walked through every step with conversation that didnt make the appointment boring. My expectations were exceeded with Maylin!
If you have never tried Kami Salon, do yourself a favor and go get a.haircut! All the stylists are terrific and give great service at reasonable prices. Ken is my favorite stylist
I tried this place today for the first time after two of my friends from work went and had fabulous experiences. I had a keratin treatment cut and blow dry I had fabulous service they were so kind and helpful they went over everything before hand what my hair needed why different options and prices and then continued with exactly what I asked for it was the best experience ever and then they finished with pictures I will definitely go back!! Highly suggest!!
Maylin helped me cut my hair. She is very patient, helpful and really listen to her customers’ thoughts. She also offered me some tips about how to style my hair daily. Definitely recommend her!
Grace was amazing! She did a wonderful color correction & beautiful cut. I have incredibly thick and wavy hair and she made it feel light, added layers in, and styled it really nicely. Super polite service, extremely fair prices considering all I had done, and clean space. Definitely coming back!

Ken is great. Its tough to get a good stylist who understands Asian hair. So I was pretty psyched to hear about Kami Salon. The staff was super friendly and Ken gave me one of the best haircuts Ive ever had. I received tons of compliments on my new cut. I cant rave enough about Ken or this salon!
Ive been to this salon 3 times now and I really recommend Maylin. Everytime she has done my hair I have been very satisfied and she always listens to you and gives you the best service. My hair is fairly thick and heavy, but she was able to layer it very skillfully so that it feels much lighter while also retaining its volume. I always appreciate the friendly service at Kami Salon.
Had my hair cut and done here multiple times and I’ve never been disappointed with the service! Ken is my go-to but I’ve also heard great things about Grace.They offer a student discount so make sure you bring your student ID if you are a student!
Like many others, I think its important to get your hair cut by someone who is familiar with your hair type. East Asian hair salons were initially difficult to come by in the Evanston area, and I used to go to B Squared all the way in Chinatown (about an hour and a half south). So the convenience alone of Kami will make me return in the future. On top of that, I am very satisfied with the cut I got. My stylist Jeff was knowledge and friendly, and the salon itself had a pleasant atmosphere. They even give you little robes to wear on top of your clothes (but below the apron) for a slight, spa-like feel.
Maylin cut my hair and she is very professional and gave me useful advise for the style. I am very satisfied with my new hair and highly recommend her.
I always travel in between metropolitans and San Francisco is my home, yet Kami has been my only place for hair cut even when i am here for a few days. HK salons always give outstanding services and quality, but Kami is exceptionally professional at it! I wont name my stylist cause i do want him to have availability for me haha, i also have tried couple other stylists they are patient and understanding and communicable. Better Asian hair salon than in most of the China town ones.
This is one of the worst haircut I ever got. One guy spent like half an hour with the dryer trying to curl my hair up a bit, which he failed, till I began to sweat and complain. Then my stylist Ken took a couple of minutes and give me a haircut without any layers. I told him to thin the bottom part a bit to make it look more natural, but he refused and got away with it through some talk. I cant believe this is a 40 dollar haircut. I didnt give one star because he did apologize in the end. I would never go there again.
Maylin was very sweet and took the time to cut and style my hair perfectly. I recommend her if you have long/thick hair like me!

They are really skilled on haircut, especially for asian style! But they comewith no cheap price. A haircut usually cost ~25. A hairwax (Gatsby Rubber Wild Shake) costs ~12 bucks, but you can easily buy one on Amazon for ~10.
I got balayage done by Jeff, who was very professional. The whole crew stayed after closing to make sure my hair was perfect. Theres also a discount if you pay in cash!

For students paying with cash, a haircut comes out $22. They wash your hair before and after the cut for free, which is unheard of at many shops in America.Don’t worry if you can’t understand Chinese. They can speak complete English.

Absolutely horrible, I went there because they told me theyre the the chain from the Chinatown shop, but theyre barber cant do his job at all, it looks terrible in the end.

Went in today and got my hair cut by Ken! Hes super nice, listen to my request and discuss with me carefully. I love the result so much!I came to the Carmen barber shop today to cut Ken ’s hair for the first time. I also found this one on Google. I am very careful. I will listen carefully to the hairstyle you want. I will give you a lot of suggestions. A good haircut experience will definitely recommend it to friends to cut!

2022-05-01After a colorist in the city talked me down from getting the color I wanted, was thankful to find this place. Lee and Angela took good care of me and answered my questions. Love the end result - it feels good to look good! Believe it or not, it’s hard to find hair stylists in the city that are confident and comfortable with Asian hair. Will definitely be back.

2021-11-05I decided to shorten my hair after 2 decades. Id been looking for a skilled hair stylist and no one ever satisfied me the way my new favorite stylist( JEFF) done to my hair. We spent almost 5hours to make sure he wouldnt damage the *already damage hair lol!!Crew are very professional!!Highly Recommended!!

2022-04-11After losing some stylists due to covid, I’ve found it hard to find someone you can trust in their skills, expertise, and more importantly someone that will listen to what matters most to you. I had a fantastic service from MayLin and one of the assistants a couple weeks ago at Kami. Even though the salon was busy they were super transparent about how long each step was going to approximately take. I wanted to achieve ash brown hair color - many other stylist elsewhere would talk me out of it or try to sway me into something else. MayLin and the assistant were honest about what they could help me achieve and alternatives to get the feel I wanted. They were meticulous in the dying process and when I was not entirely happy with the way the color lifted in my roots, she spent extra time to get it fixed. As for the haircut, MayLin listened carefully to what I didn’t like and executed my hair with perfection - it’s been a couple of weeks…my hair color and cut still looks great. Highly recommend giving Kami Salon a try!

2021-03-13I was disappointed in experience here as a first timer. My hair is long and I requested a layered trim ~2 inches or less mostly to get the dead ends off. I knew that with layers, it would come out shorter than 2 inches in some areas however I feel that the stylist took off way more. He utilized scissors and began trimming in random places to what I presume thin out my thick hair however the end result came out choppy as if my hair got caught in a paper shredder. My hair looks choppy and unfinished. It almost looks as my hair is cut straight across which is not the look I was going for. Fortunately, hair grows however I will not be coming back here to get my hair cut. It is reasonably priced though so recommend it if you’re looking for something to get the job done with a decent outcome.

2022-05-07I went in to get a peeka-boo type of hair dye!My hair is above my chin… yes extremely short I didn’t care how blonde I would end up but when getting told about the prices… this male tall guy stylist decided to charge me 356… like I’m not getting a full on hair dye?? And he tried to tell me paint is expensive cutting your hair and all that stuff adds up to that… never again overly priced…

2021-11-08I had gone a few times, overall has been mediocre haircuts where it wasnt amazing nor horrible. However, my last experience was negative enough where I would not go back again.First issue was my stylist was late to the appointment which I am generally okay with since it happens time to time. What I was not okay with was the stylist felt rushed (dropping equipment or items left and right) and felt like she rushed through my appointment. I ended up having a haircut (15 min length) that was faster than how long I waited there (25 min).Second issue is stylist messed up my haircut either due to feeling rushed or just lack of observation. I showed a photo of a haircut I had in the past and they completed whiffed on the length of it. Just ask a question of clarification, thats what all my past stylists have done in prior locations. They asked no questions and just assumed what to do.Third issue with this location is they have an absurd up hike on price if you pay with card. So kind of sus how card and cash differ in price. I dont mind paying the card price, but they non stop insist on cash and it gets annoying when they keep mentioning their cash discount and to bring cash next time.

2021-08-21I have NEVER been happy with a haircut until Grace cut my hair! I’m new to the area, and my best friend has been raving about this salon(and Grace) and she finally convinced me to go. Grace was kind enough to fit me in with my friend even though I only gave her a day notice. She made sure she understood exactly what I wanted and made sure to explain every step she took. My hair is so pretty, cut perfectly, and feels the healthiest it’s ever been! I rebooked before I even left the salon. I couldn’t recommend Grace more! She is absolutely fabulous and such a sweetheart!

2021-08-08Me and my fiance have been looking for a place to get our haircut for sometime. Hes not as picky as I am but I have had some bad experiences with getting haircuts from people who dont understand how coarse asian hair can be. We drove about an hour to get our haircut and both of our Stylists did so good, it was definitely worth the drive! I had Maylin and she did such a wonderful job! We will definitely be coming back again!
