Holiday Inn & Suites Decatur-Forsyth, an IHG Hotel in Decatur

Location on the map
Decatur, Macon County, Illinois, US
Conveniently located off the highway and near the Interstate. There is a Burger Theory restaurant connected to the hotel. Plenty of parking and there is a Cracker Barrell just around the corner and Texas Roadhouse and Steak N Shake nearby off the highway, along with other restaurants. Gas stations nearby also.
We were asked to sign a form when we checked in that made us feel very unsecure in the location. We went to our room and the bed looked like someone had been laying on it and the bathroom light and fan were on. We went down to the front desk to ask for another room and let them know about the situation and the front desk clerk acted like we were inconveniencing them. There were linens and towels in the hallway over 2 days waiting for housekeeping to pick them up. It made me wonder about the cleanliness of the hotel. The Restaurant downstairs never opened which was unfortunate because it was close to the hotel. It would’ve been nice if they had a free breakfast too.The cost of the hotel was economical but I’m not sure if it was worth it. The hotel was new so we thought it would be a good place to stay but I think they need to work on their staff.
The guy on the front desk was super helpful and went above and beyond to make our stay better. The rooms are just not very clean. The 2nd room was much better, but the first room was disgusting. The bed sheets had stains. There was just dirt and filth everywhere. Considering the current health situation, really disappointing to see this poor level of cleanliness.
Our whole team stayed there. It was raining outside but yet they had the outdoor music blaring until almost 1am when we complained that no-one could sleep on the 2nd floor because the music was so loud.Advertised a hot free breakfast-not true. You had to pay for breakfast at the restaurant and at that it took 40 minutes to receive eggs! And finally the rooms were so gross. Body hair in the bathrooms, dirt on the sheets, garbage still in trash cans and food still in the mini fridge.I always stay at IHG hotels but never again for this one. And all of that terrible service and amenities and rooms for a very high rate a night. NOPE!
Our recent stay was less than impressive. Beds were comfortable and room was clean. Checkin service was quick and easy, however front desk clerk barely ask my information and was definitely not happy to be working. May have just been a bad day. No biggie. However we went to get our things out of the vehicle and met her coming off the elevator. She and the elevator reaked of Marijuana. Again, no biggie, but as an employee, probably not in the building?? Sleep was impossible. There was a loud party in the hallway until after 1 am. We asked to speak with a manager upon checkout and called the next day...however we are still waiting on a call back. Again, comfortable sleeping and clean rooms. Customer service was lacking as was ability to relax.
This hotel was very clean and up to date. The staff was very friendly and beyond helpful! We had a bad experience at another hotel and found this one with a room available. Due to this we didn’t check in until 1:30am. Even at this late hour staff still made us feel very welcomed. We would definitely recommend this hotel and will be staying there again if we are in the area.
The beds are great, thick walls. I worked nights and was able to sleep without any interruptions. I wish they had some sort of breakfast included. Staff was good and friendly. Comfortable beds and pillows. King suite was nice, the studio rooms are very spacious. I’m sure I’ll be back.
It was very nice to receive online the availability to check in early. Once we arrived we simply picked up our key. The suite was very roomy and recently updated. Very clean room. The front desk was very polite and welcomed us to Decatur. Since the restaurant was not serving breakfast the next morning, the hotel offered a boxed breakfast for their guests. Would use this hotel again.
The biggest issue was not having the room properly stocked, we had no regular coffee for the coffee maker, no sheets for the fold out couch, no menus for burger place no communication that I saw if things were different because of covid. It looked like all of the normal stuff just wasn’t there. We asked for no housekeeping but we did ask for towels. We did not get the towels. The coffee in the lobby was great the second day but tasted like bug the first day, the lobby coolers were under stocked considering there was lack of food options. So many different pillows. Everything seemed to be sticky. We went to the pool and it was a mess. The pool had No towels, and everything was in disarray. It overall was not very welcoming because of covid I guess. It’s like everything was just phoned in. We did not feel it was a “guest is important “ type of experience. The glory is in the details.
As a Spire Elite member that stays in motels over 200 nights a year I come to expect certain things such as a first floor room next to an exit. I spoke with the front desk a week in advance and was assured that they would reserve one of these rooms and they understood that I would need it 3 to 4 nights a week for the next 5 months. When I went to check in I was told that I would have to take a room on the 2nd or third floor as they had no clean rooms on the first floor. (This occurred 3 weeks in a row.) Why would there be no clean rooms? Why couldn’t I wait until they cleaned one? The attitude of the front desk clerk was condescending and she really didn’t care if I stayed or not. I told her that I was cancelling my reservation and going somewhere else and she said that’s fine and made me feel sorry that I had bothered her. They would not refund my money for the one night because I actually walked into a room. I opened the door and turned around and left and they charged me over a hundred dollars for that. I try to stay exclusively at Holiday Inn’s (IHG) but since this is the only one in Decatur I will be giving my business to another Motel chain. The motel is nice and the rooms are clean. They just really need to do employee training on customer service and attitude.
If you are looking for someone to care that you are choosing them for an overnight stay - then this isnt the place. I will say the room was clean - but the room decor was not relaxing - ultra modern - again - ok for some - but given the choices in the area - I will choose someplace else as we travel. I would wonder if everyone in this area was this unfriendly - but we stayed at a competitor on the the other side of the city on our way out west traveling and know this is not true. So I will add this to our notes and go from there.
Positive: The hotel was nicely furnished and the pool was in very good condition. Negative: The two rooms we rented were not cleaned properly. Not vacuumed, hair on shower wall. We killed a cockroach in one room. Although they advertised breakfast was included, it was not on the weekends, just during the week.
We were in town to visit family and opted to stay in this fairly new hotel. We arrived late (around 8pm). At check in, the front desk clerk was extremely rude. When we gave her ID, she tossed it and our room keys across the counter at us. She had no name tag on. She was definitely NOT pleasant or friendly as most front desk clerks are.Our room was a King Suite and we loved the layout. Bathroom was adequate, a few questionable areas of caulk/mold but not like other hotels. In general, the room felt clean.Shortly after our arrival, went down to enjoy the pool with our child, only to find the pool was closed for maintenance. No mention of that on the website or by the front desk clerk. We had a very disappointed child.Went back to the room, and relaxed. At bedtime, we pulled out the sofa bed. Honestly, the floor under the bed was cleaner than I expected -only a few popcorn kernels were there. Looking around, we couldnt find items to make the pull out. Called the front desk, and it took a 2nd call to actually get the bedding brought up 30 minutes later. The front desk clerk came up with bedding, still no name tag and still rude. No free breakfast and after reading other reviews did not even try the on site restaurant.
Positive: Clean, great staff. Negative: I booked your hotel for the biggest reason that it included breakfast. It did not. There were several other hotels in the area (less expensive) we were considering that did not include breakfast, which is why we picked this particular location.
We were told there was no breakfast except t-th due to Covid. This is ludicrous. Is Covid not a problem midweek? Being in town to visit my sick father was draining and difficult. This hotel experience was an unneeded hassle. We even had to request washcloths. Cheap. Cheap. Penny wise. Pound foolish. We’ll never stay at Holiday Inn again. Although the others on this trip were well appointed in all ways. Older. More run down. But the staff was generous. We felt cared for after full days of driving at those locations.
No breakfast, no pool. Covid sucks. Weve been at other places that have made provisions for both, but not here - and we didnt know until we checked in for the weekend. Other than that. The room is lovely. Super comfy! FYI, they are not cleaning every day and you have to put your towels in the hallway to get new ones.
Had reservations for three nights, went to check in on Sunday night at 10:20 was told that he couldnt find my reservation I was about to give me confirmation number then all suddenly he was able to find me. I was bumped because a Norfolk employee said his room as filthy so he have him my room Norfolk!! I asked why? Because Norfolk is a good customer and Im not elite member. There are other hotels around that you can go to. Then he states Im so frustrated I just started my shift a couple of hours ago. So now he is a victim and I should feel sorry for him?? Comfort inn next door had breakfast my co workers that stayed at this holiday had no breakfast and one had 10 pillows and no blanket. Will never stay at holiday inn ever again.
We checked in after 8:00 PM. on Saturday evening for a one night stay. The gentleman that checked us in was very nice, helpful, and accommodating to our request. I requested a late checkout, and I explained why I needed it for 1:30 PM.(In town for a 3:00 PM funeral on the next day). He stated it should be fine, and he would leave a note for the cleaning staff. The next day around the normal Noon checkout, the lady from the front desk knocked on our door. Her question was, when will you be leaving? My wife explained that we were granted a late check out, and she gave the time we were leaving. This lady smarted off saying that it would have been nice to have known. She walked down the hall saying something. We really did not mind being asked, but we did mind the attitude. If you are not good with customer care, you need to find something else to do. This was my second time staying at this location, and I may think twice about staying here again. Our family was already grieving, and we did not need to deal with this before attending the funeral of our loved one. Just learn how to treat people. This is why I rated the staff with only two stars and gave an average experience.
Everything was clean and social distancing guidelines were clear. The power had flickered before we arrived but the staff informed us of it and that they had backup generators upon check in so that we wouldn’t be worried if it went out. The bed and linens were clean and I got the best sleep I’ve had in a while!
Check in was confusing because the lobby door didnt function and you had to figure out how to come in from the end of the building. They maybe had breakfast there in their burger joint but it didnt come with the room. Room was already kinda high considering off season. But staff was friendly and rooms were clean. Just inconvenient to walk through the snow and slick parking lot to go in and out of the building at the end of the building. Especially with bags and luggage. Overall it served our purpose for being there.
We booked in advance for business and arrived to find out that one of our board members room was not cleaned. Trash not emptied, open bag of chips, bathroom shower had hair and used soap in it and coffee stains on the counter. The hotel was overbooked so no other rooms were available. The hotel was short staff and staff present were overwhelmed.
Dirty hotel, room inadequately cleaned. Room repairs unfinished. Bed bouncy with no back support, breakfast is brief, over by 8 a.m., staff lack professionalism. Hotel surrounded by overgrown weeds. Contractors, many Construction workers are preferred guests. Stay clear if youre on vacation, the hotel is depressing.
Everything was perfecy except i failed to understand that stay over guests werent afforded the option of having the room setviced. I check in on Thursday and didnt need the room cleaned on Friday. However, called the front desk on sunday to ask that it be cleaned. And was told they didnt provide that service for stay over guests. I had to go purchase shampoo and conditioner. But over all it has really nice rooms and check in and our was really smoothe and quick.
Upon arrival I was not acknowledged as a priority club member. The restaurant was closed for the night because of a private party. No mention of this at check in or before arrival. Had every intention of not having to leave the hotel once I arrived. They wouldn’t even offer room service. 2nd time at this hotel and haven’t been impressed either time. Not what I expect from Holiday Inn.
Our bathroom wasn’t clean. There was some kind of substance splattered on the bathroom walls. Not enough clean washcloths. Used dirty towels of other guest on the same floor as ours and garbage stayed on the floor outside their rooms during the whole time we were there.
New hotel, easy access off the interstate, close to restaurants. We stopped just for one night and I was really impressed with this place. Clean, beds were super comfortable, shower pressure was superb (shower head was awesome) internet access was quick.Check in and out was fast and sufficient. The bar was open along with the Burger place but we didnt partake.I would definitely stay here again.
Went to stay 3 days for the state fair it’s been 5 days since then & I still haven’t received my $50 dollar incidental fee! Called to see what’s going on and they hung up on me! I love me a good get away at a hotel but I won’t ever go back to this one! I’ve never had this happen before.
Room was clean, comfortable and modern. Beds and linens were nice. The front desk failed to inform us of breakfast hours, so getting down to the lobby at 903am we missed that on our first morning. When we asked about the breakfast hours(hour from 8am to 9am) the woman at the front desk was somewhat rude and told us to read the sign which she pointed to. The sign was a 9x11 piece of paper on the front desk.
I always stay at Holiday Inns when they are close to my destination or vacation spot. I love that you know what youre getting when you stay at a Holiday Inn whether its in Steamboat, Colorado, or Decatur, Illinois. I always know Ill have a nice comfortable bed to sleep in and a nice room. The staff is always incredibly nice as well. I love to stay at Holiday Inns, and will always stay at them as long as they continue to provide great service and nice clean rooms like they always have. Having a pool at most locations is always a great bonus as well. Thank you!
Spent 3 days during a family reunion and memorial. Was very nice and staff was helpful and professional. 3 points of concern that Id like to share. Pool was closed for maintenance the entire stay. Very disappointing as we paid extra for this hotel because it has a pool and spa. Continental breakfast was not available supposedly due to Covid-19. Ive been to other hotels that have found a way to accommodate Covid-19 restrictions and still offer breakfast even if reduced to some extent. Again, paid extra for this hotel because the website advertised breakfast. Finally, room cleaning was also suspended due to Covid-19. That made sense but when we placed used towels outside the door as instructed, they were picked up but never replaced ALL 3 days. All 3 of these things seemed like thinly veiled efforts at cost cutting rather than necessary reduction due to Covid-19. While these 3 things didnt ruin our stay, she still bear mentioning.
This location was disappointing. The staff was abrasive, and non-caring. The restaurant was not open for coffee. There was no hot-tub or services in the hotel itself. The parking was excellent however there were no signs in the parking lot to NOT block walkways. The entry and exit into the hotel was a nightmare, the GPS was thoroughly confused, but managed after a few extra turns. This establishment could be a remarkable place as it looks new, inviting and fun however it does need management to re-organize.
My family and I booked a room for two days. As part of the promotion I paid a small amount to have breakfast for the weekend. Upon checking in, we were then told a 75.00 fee would be added and would drop after checkout. Not a problem. We get to the room and I notice a stain on the floor near the couch and the wifi code doesnt work. My son goes downstairs where he is told to call an 800 number as they dont assist with that. Next morning I go downstairs for breakfast and the door is locked. They open late because the cook bever showed. The employee was very nice and apologetic. When we go to checkout I am told I had a 10 00 balance. Thats odd to me as they held 355.00 already from my bank account, but in a rush I give them cash. I get to my car and they have debited another 142.50. I go to the front desk where I am told that 355.00 is a hold and will drop in a few days. This was NEVER, EVER, EVER explained to me. Thank goodness I had the money to cover.
I frequently to stay at Holiday Inn when traveling for business. I appreciate the overall look and feel of the hotel and find it relaxing. Are usually never have any problems ever with the holiday inn. However, I was extremely disappointed in the bathroom experience. The two major areas that I am particular about are the toilet and the bathing area. The bathing area was very dirty upon my arrival. It look like you had not been scrubbed and there was both longhairs and short and curly hair is all in the toilet. And as a compensation I was asked to move rooms after I was already settled and offered a snack at the bar. I snickers bar does not equate a dirty room. Additionally, upon my check out, there were several charges on my account they were absolutely not made by me. Although the management team gave me a $20 credit for the dirty room and remove the charges. The overall experience not leave a pleasant taste in my mouth. Especially with no explanation of how the charges got there could be given. I hope that this facility steps up their game in the future
1. Problem with booking rooms using code for the block of rooms for the wedding party. Code continually changed.2. Price difference between Block of rooms and IHG hotel rate. It was cheaper using my IHG rate then the rooms blocked for the wedding party.3. (I know for a fact that the bride and groom had indicated the number of guest to receive gift bags .) When we checked in, the staff refused to give us our gift bags. 4. Issue with the staff. I had booked 2 rooms for the wedding and my friend wanted to put 1/2 the bill on her charge account, the hotel charged her $50.00 more.
Very clean! Spacious and modern decor. This hotel seemed like it was fairly new. The employees at the front desk were VERY friendly. They talked to us like family...very complimentary and inquiring our reason for our visit. My husband and I went out Friday evening. When we returned, the worker was seated in the lobby reading a book...like we were coming into a home. She said, welcome back, did you have a nice evening? VERY pleasant and relaxing stay.
Tables in lobby were dirty and had not been cleaned in at least days. I took photos every day for proof. Couldnt get hot water in the lobby for hot tea, had to ask every single time, when I did it came out in a pitcher that obviously had coffee in it and had not been washed at all. Hotel staff was worse than staying on a floor full of drunken college students. The house cleaning staff were fighting, cussing, and screaming in the main lobby and on the floors. Manager B. doesnt care about anything you tell him and wont correct anything. Other guest with me had big problems with their reservation that the owners wife so kindly fixed. She was amazing. For the price its not worth the hassle or headache.
Im so happy Holiday Inn finally built in this location! The hotel is completely modern with spacious guest rooms. Everything was clean and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Also, the beds were very comfortable and there were numerous plug-ins available. The pool was very nice, but the temperature of the water was on the cool side. The location is great for restaurants and shopping. We definitely plan to return when in this area!
Our two daughters attend Millikin University, so after a long day of moving them and getting them settled, it was nice to arrive at this hotel. It’s new and very clean. Our beds were very comfortable with plenty of pillows. I especially loved that there was a mirror outside the bathroom with a shelf and plenty of outlets so I could get ready while others used the shower. There’s also a fridge and microwave and WiFi. It definitely met our expectations, and we’ll be staying here from now on when we visit our daughters!
I loved the rooms! The beds are so soft and comfortable! Pillows are big and fluffy not smashed down like everyone that came through there used them!! The only thing it was lacking for the price was free breakfast! The burger theory is pricey and food not that good at breakfast time!!
We were on a long family trip and needed to stop for the night. Holiday Inn is not generally my first choice of hotels but the night it was our best option for the available hotels in the area. The hotel is in excellent condition, the staff was very accommodating for any request we had. There is no continental breakfast but I did pay to the breakfast upgrade on my room for me and my wife and my daughter ate for free, it was a buffet style breakfast but the selection was great and we all found plenty of foods we enjoyed, the cook even heard there was a child eating and she made chocolate chip pancakes special for her. My wife has a sever allergy to scents and perfumes and the room we were in was very clean and did not have an overwhelming smell of room deodorizer like a lot of hotels use to cover any hidden smells or problems. The stay at this hotel has renewed my faith in the Holiday Inn chain and I will now start putting them higher up on my list of places to stay in the future. The only negative I found with the hotel is the restaurant closed at 9pm so because of our later arrival it closed before we were able to order supper. Overall I would recommend the hotel to anyone staying in or passing thru the area.
Stayed here on a Saturday night and found out the internet was not working, the pool was closed due to a needed repair, and the restaurant was not open on weekends. Really couldnt understand how a hotel operates with a restaurant being closed on weekends. Overall very disappointed with my stay. When I stayed here last year, it was much better.
Room was great and price was right. Bathroom was missing shower curtain, but didnt notice until I tried to take shower in morning. Staff did not seem to care when I mentioned it at checkout. Also bar/grill in hotel looked very inviting but closed by 10 pm on a Friday night. No complimentary breakfast.
It was just okay the handicap bathroom wasnt very handicap no bench to sit on for the shower if needed to be also people need to take in to consideration and put a walk in shower in for people and you had to walk a long ways to get to the elevator and the diner but the waitress she was great. Room service was awesome. The room was very big and nice.
This was our second stay at this hotel. The first time was a great experience, but this second time not so much. The front desk staff were very friendly, and it’s a beautiful, new hotel. It’s close to shopping and restaurants. We had issues with cleanliness this stay. Carpet clearly wasn’t vacuumed, counter not cleaned, juice in fridge, hair in bathroom, used towel in closet, etc. Because of this lack of attention, it made me question whether or not the bedding was really clean. I already have anxiety issues when staying in hotels, so this just made me paranoid the entire night. We were moved to another room, however we found peanuts on the floor and two pillows didn’t have pillow cases. Once again, the lack of attention to these things makes me question the cleanliness of everything.
Great property but housekeeping is terrible. No bathmat day 1. They ran out of coffee pods days 2 and 3. No coffee cups or water cups day 3. No conditioner day 3 - 2 lotion containers instead. Bed was very comfortable and the room was spacious. There was no one at the front desk when I went to check out. The attached restaurant also did not seem to be open their posted hours. Despite the problems, will probably stay here again.
I enjoyed my stay. I was happy to see soo many charging centers aroud my room. Armoire for my luggage, room service and cleanliness. I will say I was disappointed about not having free breakfast. My family chose to go out to a restaurant since 10.00 is pretty much the cost of an abundance of food at cracker barrel across the way.
I stayed at this location during a 2-day business trip to Decatur. The location is just of I-72 in a retail area. The hotel is in great shape and very clean. i checked in late and was quickly in my room. The room was quite and relaxing - just sat and watched some TV before going to bed. Slept great. Woke, took a shower (very nice bathroom) and was on my way. Great place to stay - clean and safe.
Rooms and staff were nice. There was no buffet as advertised. Staff informed us the owner told them not to set up the buffet. We arrived at 11 pm and one of our rooms was not ready and had no sheets. The other rooms king bed was made up but nothing to make up the hide away bed. Not worth the money or the headache.
The staff at the front desk could care less about the guest..maybe one of them had a bad day..not very helpful checking in. Then I was given a room that had not been cleaned, but I understand mistakes happen. My second room not real clean..found a wad of tissues in my shower. Im pretty easy going but lack of effort and bad attitude dosent go very far with me.
The hotel is nice, clean, and safe. We checked in on a very busy weekend to visit my son in college. Checking in was a horrible experience. They were understaffed, and unprepared, not too mention there were NO clean rooms available for our reservation which we made well in advance. The front desk clerk and the 1 housekeeper who were there, tried their very best, and were so apologetic. We will not be staying there again. Note - the burger restaurant in the hotel is excellent with great service!
My family had a funeral in Decatur and chose to stay at this hotel. It was clean and they did well to follow COVID requirements. They resolved any issues that we had. I would definitely recommend them. Just call before hand if you want to use the pool, it was closed while we were they due to a broken part on back order.
There were a few positives to this nearly new hotel: Easy access from interstate and near to Decatur points of interest.Beds were very comfortable. Linens and towels in good shape. The sink/microwave area and closet plus luggage rack unit with mirror were useful.Rolling desk and chair were handy for work.Nice size TV with loads of channels. Lighting was ample. Blackout blind worked well.On the flip side, we were shocked at how unclean the floors were, both in common areas and in the room. The hard surface floors were in desperate need of a scrubbing and the carpet in our room hadnt had a good vacuuming in some time. Actually picked up larger pieces of debris (chip bits, threads, wrappers, etc.) The cords to the lamps were loosely lined out on floor looking sloppy rather than wrapped and clipped. We noted for four days that the interior of the elevator was quite dirty with smudge marks all over the walls. By the last day, the smudges were gone, but the filth on the floor remained. We appreciate double-slipped pillows. Of the eight pillows on the two beds, five were properly double slipped. Dont understand why the other three were overlooked. The extra pillow in the closet had no pillowcase whatsoever and the comforter was lacking a cover, as well. The tissue and toilet paper were of poor quality as noted by their roughness. The front desk staff, albeit friendly, seemed highly untrained and unfamiliar with the hospitality business. When I asked a question of the first front desk person I encountered, she couldnt answer and pointed to another person (perhaps a manager) and said to go ask her, rather than seeking out the answer herself. When I phoned down and asked if there was a charge for local calls, the same person responded, I dont think so. Another front desk person offered us a free soda pop in exchange for not having access to the out-of-order pool for over three days! I fault management in not properly training their staff.Another big shocker was the fact that the housekeeping crew congregates in the main lobby. They were all there when we checked in and again the next morning when I went down for coffee. It simply seemed so odd that this unit didnt have a space outside of the main entry to gather to hobnob and/or get their work assignments. Not helping the scene was the fact that some wore tattered pants with cuffs dragging the floor and lacking a professional look.Upon arrival, we noted that the pool was closed at the time. When we asked about the status, we were told it might be open later that night or tomorrow, as someone was working on the pH. Also, the workout room emitted a very strong chemical-like smell making breathing difficult, which precluded us from using this space. The pool never did open during our 4-night stay. The soundproofing is lacking. People talking in normal voices in the hall echo into our room. Footsteps in the room above thunder overhead. The restaurant was closed on our last morning. We had planned on enjoying breakfast there before our road trip to Chicago. Alas, there were not enough workers available to open as scheduled. Also on the sign outside of the restaurant the wording has restaurant spelled correctly and then incorrectly as restuarant... on the same sign! On two out of four mornings the coffee pot was empty when I went down to lobby to enjoy this complimentary service. The upshot: This property has great potential. However, at current style of management, it does not deserve to be within Holiday Inns portfolio.
We checked in and the woman at check-in did not make eye contact, did not have answers to our questions, did not make us feel welcome. Staff did not have information about road construction near their hotel where signs were clearly visible. Hotel amenities were limited. We never saw staff or cleaning personnel in other areas during our stay. Cold environment.
Nice hotel, new construction or updated recently it appears. Remote control shades were amazing! They do not have a free continental breakfast and due to an emergency the restaurant was shut down, so no breakfast at all. I do wish they would have sent emails to those staying so they could make sure they planned appropriately for the morning timing wise to get somewhere else for breakfast and still to appointments on time. They did have snack food for purchase in the lobby.
This hotel did a good job keep the guest isolated from each other. They stayed out of our rooms unless regulated to clean. The only real bad thing was television really sucked in this area. Not much selection in a time that you can’t do much because of the lockdown. In normal time this hotel would be fine.
The hotel is new and lovely, but the rooms are showing some wear and tear. The most disappointing occurrence was the amount of hair in the bathroom from a prior guest. It was alll over the floor and in the tub. It was disgusting. Also, when I was showering, the water pressure shut off for about two minutes before eventually returning. Nice hotel is they can cleanup their act just a bit!
Initial walk in I was greeted and everything went fast with no issues. Had dinner next door at Hamburger Theory and I recommend it to anyone. Good conversations and good food along with refreshments. Room wasnt my bed but it was better than expected for a hotel. Checkout was harmless and easy.
The following Not open/available (as of 10/26):1) hotel restaurant 2) pool3) included continental/buffet breakfast4) gym (TVs dont work)We also had a leak in the ceiling (drips of water on the bed) and it was not addressed by management. The toilet also ran all night, but this was minor compared to the other stuff.Positives: front desk staff (Rochelle?) was very pleasant. The hotel room was very clean and had new hotel room smell (fresh).
I would recommend this hotel if staying in the Decatur-Forsyth area. It was a newer property with good amenities. I enjoyed the cleanliness and the friendliness of the facilities and staff. I thought the beds were comfy and the rooms were very well maintained. I did not spend a great deal of time in my room although when I did, I felt comfortable, quiet and overall satisfied with the overnight accommodations.
This hotel property is the best in the area. I have stayed at three other properties, and there is NO COMPARISON. The breakfast and room service was wonderful. We were a little disappointed on our last morning at breakfast because there was no biscuits and gravy on the bar. The waitress mentioned it to the cook, and he came out an apologized. He then asked if we had time to wait on an order. After the time he told us, he came out and delivered the biscuits
This was the second time that I have stayed here. The only thing that I can complain about this time is the charges from the on-site restaurant. You would think that with everything that is going on right now they would like to cater to the customers a bit better. I don’t have a problem paying for a meal but with their charges I ended up with a $36.00 dollar charge for a sub-par burger and 2 beers. Most dining establishments right now are not charging delivery fees.
When I checked-in on 9/4, it was obvious that the floor had not been vacuumed. There was black fuzz on the carpet. The front desk offered to remedy this but I declined; they gave me a coupon for a free breakfast. When I return to my room after work on 9/6, house-keeping had not cleaned the room at all. The trash was not emptied, bed unmade, towels not replaced. The front desk offered to give me 1000 points, which I accepted.I was informed that the hotel was full. Perhaps staffing levels need to increase as a result.I have reservations at this location for the remainder of this month. Hopefully, the situation will improve.
Rooms were nice and well kept, had questions about charges for overnight stay because we had made reservations with IHG points but it took the staff 15 minutes to figure out what the more than normal incidental hold was. This makes me think that the staff, although great people, are under trained. Bar/restaurant staff was great and came to find that it is also owned by the hotel and also mismanaged. The staff overcome difficulties created by ownership but do so for the love of their jobs and the clientele. This knowledge made the stay a little less comfortable have come from a service industry background. (Restuarant staff told to stop adding gratuity to room service which they themselves deliver, despite menus in the rooms stating that gratuity and delivery charge may be added leading patrons to believe gratuity has already been added and thus not actually leave one)
When I first called the front desk receptionist was super rude and not friendly at all. She didn’t say her name and I didn’t think of getting that information. My room had chip crumbs all over the floor and the ice bucket was still full of water from the previous guest. I left a note for house keeping to clean it up. They did. Overall the hotel was nice, Burger Theory attached to the hotel was delicious and the hotel is brand new so it’s nicely decorated.
Great accommodations, new décor and very clean. Very important things to me when staying away from home. Staff was very welcoming. We were there for a funeral, so one less thing to worry about was most appreciated. Nice restaurant onsite. We only ate breakfast there, but it was a delicious buffet.
You would think that someone working the front desk at a major hotel chain, in the midst of a global pandemic and an empty hotel, would should a little appreciation - or even some professional courtesy - for your business. That wasnt the case at this property. Not even a greeting or a thank you. Just an unspoken, Dont come back. I wont.
I travel for work for extended periods and I personally need quiet time to read . The King suite offered a sitting area, updated lighting and furniture. The bed was top notch and the pillows were comfortable. There are plenty of restaurants in the area. Cons: I had a few occasions when the water pressure dropped while showering, I thought that was odd because the hotel was only 2 years old. The cleaning staff in a nut shell, noisy and Im just not into listening to there daily grumbling .
The hotel overall was cleanly with great staff. However, for the first 3 days I had no hot water. Staff offered to switch our rooms but couldnt guarantee those would have hot water either. The first morning the fire alarm went off at 6am (good to know something actually got heat since my showers never did). The kitchen was supposed to be open for breakfast but was never open by the time we had to leave.
I found three separate dead bugs in my room. I understand that room turnover will be low given covid. But still, the fact that I found three dead bugs makes me think how many more i did not find. If I had found them when I first arrived I would have immediately requested a different room. However, when I checked in I was exhausted and immediately fell asleep after arriving.
The first night I stayed at the Holiday Inn in Forsyth was great. Everything was clean and the staff was very friendly. The second night, when checking in I was denied my rewards points for the stay, as it was reserved by a co-worker under his rewards membership. She told me because he paid for it, I couldnt have the points. It was paid for with a company credit card.Upon heading back to my room, the room looked like it was just thrown back together from the last guest. When I went to sleep, I found that the bed had a big wet spot in the middle of it. I was so tired from working a 15 hour day that I just pulled the comforter over the spot and laid on top of it. When I took a shower in the morning, I noticed that there were hairs (they looked like pubes) all over the shower. There werent many, but enough to kind of gross me out.The second night left me more than a little perturbed at the lack of attention to detail in cleaning.
The check-in staff was great they were very personable and welcoming . Beds are very comfortable. The sheets and pillows for very comfortable the towels are soft had except for a little mold in the shower and maybe a little better job of vacuuming the floors this was an excellent place to stay .
Stayed at hotel because our son had a few hockey games in Decatur over the weekend. The rooms were very clean and very nicely decorated. The staff was very friendly and accommodating to our requests. The fitness center was well equipped. I would definately recommend staying here if you’re looking for a clean hotel with spacious rooms.
This is a nice modern hotel very near the interstate. It was clean and the staff was very helpful. My biggest problem was the room layout offered. The bathroom was located near the center of the room which resulted in 2 small rooms. The bathroom protruded into the passageway making it difficult to navigate. The bathroom door kept getting in the way. There is a small table in each room so working at either was not comfortable or productive.
Great hotel as expected. The Burger Theory restaurant attached to it has a great selection of beer/bourbon/whiskey, including hard to find Japanese variety.Great service both hotel and restaurant. If you desire different place to eat, nearby there is a large selection of restaurants as well as a shopping mall.Highly recommended.
Overall the hotel was very nice. The king room was very spacious. Draw back ...it almost appeared my bed sheets had not been changed even though the bed was made. There was a grass blade and little crumbs on the sheets when I pulled the cover back. Otherwise it was very clean so this was shocking and horrifying. Hotel: make sure your staff change sheets between guests!!!!
I recently stayed at the Holiday Inn & Suites in Forsyth, IL. This hotel opened about a week before my stay. They should have stayed closed a little longer to get the rooms thoroughly cleaned before opening. During construction things get dirty and need a good cleaning. My shower surround showed signs of construction (scuff marks, damaged shower pan, excess caulk). The room was well designed and equipped for modern travel (i.e. lots of places to charge electronics) and had good furniture. In the morning I stopped by the lobby to grab a cup of coffee on my way out only to be told that there was no coffee available. Nor were there plans to ever have coffee available in the lobby. Who does that?I travel to Decatur for work on a regular basis and will not be staying here again.
New hotel with nice amenitiesUpdate:I had the pleasure of traveling back and forth to Decatur IL on business for 5 months. The company choose this location because it was close to the client. Also other colleagues recommended it. After a few visits the staff recognized me as a frequent sleeper. I would like to thank the entire staff with stand out Ciara W for making my weekly check-ins swift.Even though it was in the middle on COVID-19 they worked it out. The connected restaurant made a big difference especially when restrictions allowed it to be open. Considering its central IL and in the middle of a pandemic I was impressed with my extended stay.
We appreciated staff effort to fix non- working TV controller after we explained purpose of visit and expectation of lengthy in room time during visit .Breakfast hours (6-8 on weekdays and CLOSED ON WEEKENDS) seems to completely ignore those traveling for any purpose other than business or visiting construction and tradesmen.
This is a new property, staff is very personable and friendly. It’s clean and parking is a breeze. As strange as this sounds the hotel doesn’t receive a morning paper for their guest. I had to walk to a neighboring hotel to pickup a morning paper to read with my coffee. I travel throughout the US and stay at IHG properties and this is he first time I’ve had to walk to another hotel to find s morning-paper....O’well the walk did me good.
Overall, a very nice place to stay. Everything worked as expected. Breakfast and WiFi were fine. A suggestion would be to take a look at in room coffee pots. It was really dusty, and didnt feel like cleaning it to use it. Coffee available for breakfast. We would stay again.
-TV remote control missing from the room-No coffee cups for the in-room coffee machine... only the plastic water cups-Clocks hadnt been changed yet to standard time (fairly common in all hotels last week)-Biggest complaint is the gym... Equipment is excellent but gym kept at 75 degrees- ridiculously hot for a typical hotel gym. Asked at the front desk and the ladies said they were unable to adjust it based on instructions... Evidently theres a dont touch sign on the thermostat and they suggested I prop open the door. What is that about?-After the gym sauna experience, there were no cups for the water machine in the gym.Nice clean and new property- just needs some housekeeping work.
Hotel rooms and staff were great but the breakfast was misadvertised. Staff and sight says open at 7 am on weekends. At 7 am I was told the cook was there and they were waiting on a server then at 7:30 I was informed that the cook had left. After an hour wait in the loby and watching 6 groups of guests ask about breakfast my wife and I left for cracker barrel next door.
First room we went into had 8 dead flies on the floor and a very large one still alive in the bath room. Went down and switched rooms, the second room had a few dead bugs in the bath room and hair in the sink and tub. Overall cleanliness not good, did not make for a good nights sleep. Staying in HI properties all over the country at least 150 times a year this properties cleanliness was awful.
I picked this place to take my wife for a day. We just wanted to get away for the day. When we arrived we got downgraded to a king studio. I reserved in advance a king suite. It was clear it wasn’t their problem. We then were given food coupons for the Restaurant that NEVER OPENED!!! That’s ridiculous. Took a day to come here and relax and caused even more stress and disappointment. I’ve always stayed at holiday inns. Not this one ever again. The lady that checked us out. Asked why we got food coupons for suite customers only. I explained that I payed for and reserved a certain room and it’s not my fault the hotel decided to not have the Amenities they offered or the service all the other holiday inns I have been to. Not expecting anybody to get back to me on this because that is how we felt like we are Unimportant.
First time in a long time that I have no recommendations for things that could be better. This property is well appointed, very clean, and in a quiet location. The restaurant on site is nice, with made to order or buffet breakfast. The staff was friendly and helpful. I will certainly return to this location.
Very clean hotel, in a decent location for what I needed, staff very friendly and helpful, especially the lady who runs the breakfast area. My only disappointment was the selection of food for dinner, unless you want to pretty much eat burgers every day you are forced to go elsewhere. I know it’s a burger restaurant, but it could do with a bigger selection to hold the appeal to guests staying longer than one or two nights.
I must say the young lady that checked me in was great. But the lady at the desk when I checked out was rude and never gave me a final bill. When I told her the fridge did not work which I told the lady the night before. Her response was its nothing she could do. I had called down to let them know the restaurant refused my nephew breakfast because it was close to ten. However, the info in the room says breakfast is done at 10 not close to 10. The same front desk lady told me oh you only paid 105 I dont know how you did that but with that price I paid she couldnt take any money off that price. I was livid.
The odor in my room was like dirty socks in a gym locker room. The walls were paper thin so I heard every noise inside and outside the building. Bathroom design is terrible. No hooks for hanging toiletry bag, no rack in shower to hang wash cloth. The towel hook next to the door does not allow the door to close if a towel is hanging. To be a new hotel, it was extremely disappointing!
The staff was very friendly upon my arrival. Rooms are quite large and well laid out. I was trying to get breakfast at the attached restaurant before 7 A.M. but was not greeted by anyone, so i had to just leave to find sustinence elsewhere. Overall a good experience.
Typically when I travel to Central Illinois I have bad luck with hotels being old outdated stinky musty and just not well kept. I finally went to Decatur Forsyth and found the Holiday inn Express be in something that Im used to be able to have access to and major cities. Clean rooms that smell good and all modern facilities made it feel like a higher 4-star hotel in a major city. trust me, I travel quite a bit and especially in small areas where youre stuck with what I call Motel 3. Gentlemen, do yourself a favor when youre in those areas where the new Holiday inn expresses are present, and your wife will not kick your rear for putting yourself in her in a dump. She will be happy and thats what counts most.
I had spent upwards of an hour researching area restaurants trying to find a place to eat on Christmas morning before booking this hotel. Instead I chose this hotel ONLY because of their two for breakfast rate. Imagine my surprise then when we got to the hotel and found that the restaurant was closed not only Christmas day but Christmas eve as well. The desk clerk apologized and gave me the AARP discount but obviously she couldnt make an open restaurant appear magically. We visit relatives in the Decatur area every year and this will be the only and last time we will be staying at this hotel. Very disappointing.
I found it very unprofessional that we waited 2 hours for our food and another 25-30 minutes to pay. When I brought it to the owners attention he did absolutely nothing to help better the situation. When we checked out we were asked about our stay. The woman that checked us out was also the woman that was watching others be checked in and ignored us all. When I told her about our disappointment she said, Im sorry you feel that way rolled her eyes and walked away. I was very disappointed at the concern of a consumer. I worked in this industry for many years and I have never experience so much lack of concern/care. Very disappointing considering you were highly recommended
Hotel staff did not check for breakfast room service and caused us almost to be late for meeting. No one checked door hanger for room service. After this was brought to their attention no one bothered to contact us or make any compensation. Not real happy with staff.
Terrible pillows. They’re big and fluffy looking until you put your head on them. They completely lack support. No way at all to get comfortable with empty sacks of fake feathers. I will bring my own from now on. Room smelled good like new construction. Bar/restaurant is wildly overpriced. $5 for a bottle of American beer.
The staff charged the wrong card for the room. It was a honest, yet very frustrating mistake. That would have been fine, except that when they fixed the charges, they still got it wrong. I brought it to the Front Desks attention during the stay, they indicated they got it fixed. At check out, I realized they STILL had the wrong card on file. They finally charged the correct card, and told me it would be a 7-14 day wait for the money to be refunded to the first card. Thankfully it didnt take that long, but when the refund processed they didnt even process a full refund. I had to call and get them to fix it yet again. Well see if they get it right this time...
Had a big issue with stink bugs and lady bugs in room. Notified staff several times and no improvement was noted. Also, our group was to have rooms fully cleaned on mondays and thursdays and I had to constantly complain in order for service to be performed. Also if service was done as scheduled, sheets were not changed, tub/toilet/sink was not cleaned and dead bugs were not vacuumed or cleaned from windowsill and carpet.
We stayed over Thanksgiving holiday when no Mgr or Asst Mgr were on site. At checkin no one was at the desk, had to retrieve them from the office after a 5 minute wait. It was 4 PM so a prime time to checkin. Housekeeping was only expected on one day and it never happened. Housekeeping also left room doors open and not attended. As a Spire member I have high expectations and the stay was certainly below expectations.
Place new and clean but no complimentary breakfast included. Attached Burger Theory was to provide breakfast buffet at cost of $8.00 and be open at 6:00. We were there at 6:00, found small note on door saying sorry but not open till 700. Come back at 700 and still not open. Front desk did not have check out ready with one clerk working who was also answering phone. This was new but needs some management training. I have been a IHG Member for many years seeking out Holiday Expresses across Nebraska, Iowa and South because of great service. This one at Decatur Illinois was poor. I give it 2 stars
This is the best hotel in Decatur IL. We make 2-3 trips to the area each year for golf, and we have tried other places, but will always return here. The only downfall is that we usually head out early each morning and it would be convenient to have a quick breakfast option on property.
Very nice property, great location away from the interstate but easy access to the interstate. Lots of great restaurants nearby with a burger and sports bar on the property. If you are looking for a great hotel in Decatur, Id highly recommend this property. Ive stayed here twice, and had a great experience both times.
I came to this hotel for a place to stay in the midst of a family crisis. I was exhausted and emotional. Tonya, the amazing person who checked me in, was comforting and supportive. I was so touched by her compassion. Tonya is a beautiful soul whose smile will help you through the toughest of times.Thank you for a comforting stay but more importantly, thank you for Tonya.
This is a new motel with in the last year. It has been very very very slow to check in every time. I’m talking a average of 15 mins from the time you get to desk and you walk away with key. Slowest I’ve ever been to! Staff doesn’t seem to familiar with computers or atleast the lady Ally all 3 times she tried to check in the first time she said I was already checked in because they had checked someone else into my room. Also never got thanked or even acknowledged that I was a IHG spire elite member.
It seemed to be the only option to stay near my site and was being used by many other workers performing tasks in the area , which made the hotel a bit more louder than other visits. This was one of the main contributors to the noise level and the lack of comfort to rest
Brand new hotel. Very nice. Nicest hotel in Decatur by far! Kids were crazy loud in hallways until midnight and staff were notified. Staff apologized to me but nothing was done about it. Seemingly great restaurant attached. But crummy service. Super loud band couldn’t hear the server. Had to yell and leave.

2022-02-08Where do I begin……when I first arrived at the hotel I was not acknowledged by any of the hotel staff as they were too busy trying to figure out how to do their jobs with another guest. It was clear that they had no idea of their own policies. The other guest ahead of me had to wait several times while one lady went to the back to call the manager for assistance. When I was finally serviced, the one staff stated that she was a new employee and was just “filling a space” and couldn’t help me. I waited for the other lady to come back who was rude to everybody. Once I finally got my room keys I went to check in and took several pictures of my dirty room. I did not complain as I try to give everyone a chance but this is ridiculous. When I had a moment to check my account I saw that I was charged a deposit twice which I discussed with the staff. I was told that I was also charged for the room beside me which was luckily a family members room but I’m pretty sure you have to ask me before I’m charged for another room that I did not book nor was it in my name. Again, I let this slide. I then requested towels for the pool for my young children and was given hand towels instead of actual dry towels. The kids froze and one cried on the way back to the room. The next morning I asked for my breakfast vouchers which I was told I would not receive. I found this to be strange as I chose the higher rate through T-mobile since it included breakfast. The worst part was that there was no management on the premises. They are only in the hotel on weekdays. The same rude staff member wanted to argue and look crazy as if she was trying to scare me away. I let her know that I would be calling corporate. I did use a third party but I also booked a room for my cousin through the hotel and was told he wouldn’t receive breakfast either. Overall, this is not the place to stay if you are in town visiting unless you bring your own cleaning supplies and towels and possibly pack yourself breakfast. They need to train their employees and make sure they know to treat their customers with respect as they expect the same. Pictures below……

2022-01-23We wont stay in this hotel again. Room was decent and what I would expect for the price (only reason for the 2 stars, but that might be generous). Staff wasnt super friendly. Head housekeeper was more interested in arguing about not giving us a 3rd towel (we had 3 in our party) than taking care of our problem. Frontdesk Staff was friendly, but training how to treat guests would be helpful. Upon check in most hotels normally go over where the room is and other hotel amenities, but this location didnt have that (she wasnt busy with guests).

2022-03-24Positive: Everyone was really nice, THE place was veryyy clean, it gives a new vibe and we only stayed one night but we got in veryy late and was helped right away and they allowed us a late check out which was really helpful. All around a nice stay. Negative: They advertise free breakfast but they do not, they have a resturant connected too them that has breakfast but it is for a charge, i didnt get to try it but they look like that have good food.

2022-02-08Location was great. But the employee tried to fight my cousin in front of her kids. We were all in town for a funeral and we decided to book here due to the great reviews but it was all a lie!! My cousin believed her room came with breakfast on day two due to the previous employee giving her the vouchers the night before at check in! The lady proceeded to try to curse my cousin out and threaten her all over a breakfast voucher! We felt intimidated the whole time but they refused to offer a refund.

2022-02-07The “owner” attempted to respond back to my previous review with Lies! How can someone in our party who walked right to the front desk with their Holiday Inn rewards be booking through a 3rd Party! Secondly not one person in our party had any issue paying a $50 incidental deposit. $50 is not a lot of money. And Free Breakfast is listed on the holiday inn Website and all 3rd party sites! I uploaded pictures of roaches and bugs. Check the photos! The “owner” who responded is just a bad employee who got called out. Now I will be contacting the CEO since you want to continue to be rude. Idc if I have to get everyone in my party to write a review of our experience. I will do so. And I hope I kept the photos that I took inside of the lobby that showed each employee who was disrespectful and rude just like the supposed owner. I’ll upload pictures once again of the roaches and other bugs.Original review: I’m thoroughly disappointed in the service my family and I received the week and weekend of 02/01/22-02/06/22. My family had nearly 15 rooms booked during this stay, with most beginning throughout the weekend. Everyone’s reservation stated Free Breakfast. No one in our party received this because staff stated they would not be honoring that part of our reservation. So 15 rooms, with multiple adults and children had to figure out breakfast during our stay. We had a room switched because of a terrible leak in the ceiling. We had another room switched because of potential bedbugs. Room 404 if anyone is booked for it. That guest had to switch rooms for times for all different kinds of insects, including roaches. We have pictures! Our stay was horrible! Staff was rude on different shifts. I’m not sure how else to describe one in particular, but it was a younger black woman who worked the front desk, and on two separate occasions of asking her for extra room towels, she repeated the same line to both guests “I only have one towel available and it’s a dry towel.” How can only one towel be available all day everyday to accommodate the needs of the entire hotel? Another person in our party asked the same employee for pool towels and she again could not produce the proper pool towels. She gave us hand towels that didn’t even fit around the body of a child. The morning of our departure a separate employee, a middle aged white woman caught an attitude when I interrupted their “talk” time to ask for a luggage cart. And instead of coming from around the desk to show me where they were she just yelled across the room and pointed “they should be over there” before rolling her eyes. Our stay was horrible overall, and I would not suggest this hotel to anyone. Also we asked this same lady for a receipt and she rudely stated that we wouldn’t get one because we booked through a third party. But I asked for a receipt for the 50$ deposits in 2 rooms. She yelled loudly it will be on your card in 3/5 business days but no receipt. The only positive people were the young Asian worker on 3rd shift, He was a pleasure and the younger aged white woman who conversed with a couple of us at check-in on 02/04.One person in our party had over 14,900 points and was told this hotel doesn’t participate in the Holiday Inn point system. Which makes no sense because this is a Holiday Inn hotel. This was a disaster and we were all there to lay one of our family members to rest. We will be posting about our experience on all social media outlets and Google reviews, and yelp.

2022-04-26The room was nice but not super clean. The pool area was super dirty. The pool walls were filthy. I had ants crawling in my shoes and towels. Needs some tender loving care. Staff was super helpful and friendly.

2022-05-11The hotel appears to be new and is very clean inside and out. There is plenty of parking and has a restaurant attached to the property. The staff was also very friendly and accommodating. I only wish there was a breakfast provided for customers.

2022-03-07After reading previous reviews I was worried. But i had no problems . Great service. The room was clean the beds were comfortable, good pillows.
