Hanabi is simply the BEST sushi you will ever have!!! They have the best chef Sara and a wonderful staff. She can make you any roll that you can think of -- she is artistic, creative and the best sushi chef I ever met!! The quality of the food is always top notch and the flavors just burst in your mouth! You cant go wrong with sushi from Hanabi :)
My husband and I had our rehearsal dinner here. The menu was varied quite nicely so everyone in our little party was able to get exactly what they wanted. I got the sukiyaki and it was wonderful. It even had the transparent noodles, which are not found everywhere. We also split an order of shumai that was really good. The bulgoki was outstanding too! I plan to come back soon and try the ramen, gyoza and maybe some sushi! My husband got the udon and said it was a little bland for his taste. Were both looking forward to going back and trying more, though. The waitress (didnt catch her name) took very good care of all of us, and didnt mind that we had people staggering in one or two at a time for a few hours. A lot of us ended the night with green tea ice cream and it was delicious. Arigatou gozaimasu, Hanabi!
Poorest quality Japanese food I’ve had. I don’t say this carelessly. My daughters and I had three different entrees, the sukiyaki was overly sugary and the beef slices so dry and tough. The Katsu and Yaki udon both tasted like the sauces were a discount brand steak sauce. The golden shrimp appetizer had the the thinnest strips of shrimp with an enormous glob of yellow egg yolk sauce (not done well). The miso was very good, the tempura shrimp were very small but fine. The waitress was very good. We overheard another customer raving about how good the sushi was, so maybe that’s their strong suit. The three of us were sick to our stomachs the next day, which could be a coincidence. But safe to say we will never go back. I don’t recommend anyone else go either.
Today Sunday 2-19-17. It was very busy it was only one person serving so there was a time before we got are food. We order a sushi boat for two that supposed to be with the bomb (Large Sapporo and Sake) for two. She gave us Two sake and small beer and only one glass. I had to ask for second glass and one more beer. Which she charge me for it. Other then that food was good.
Best sushi I ever tasted and I have tried all kinds from all different places. Nothing makes my mouth water like thinking about Hanabi. Dont listen to theese blithering idiots, they have no clue. They are probably used to Dominicks crap. I have never been able to match the flavor the chef at Hanabi has made with her sushi. Shes a culinary guru. I will forever buy my sushi here. Its hard to even think of moving away.
I have a sushi place so this is not where I go for sushi. BUT I was looking for a kind of easy japanese food restaurant that I can casually go to for other japanese food.I liked the golden shrimp, I liked the teriyaki steak, and I liked all the sides that came with it. The fried shrimps were especially good.I went in with an open mind and it turned out better than I thought.Yes, the decor and sevice was minimal, but the food was generous and satisfying to me.
Theres tons of subtleties that can make or break Japanese cuisine. Hanabi did a nice job and I was pleasantly surprised to find a place in the NW burbs deliver it in a small package. If you want lanterns, outfits, slippers and gongs, you wont find that here. Come for a nice selection, sushi and rolls without tons of rice wrapped around it, food prepared right, and friendly service.
They have a great roll selection at the most affordable price. Dont let the price fool you. The chef knows how to make the maki right. I cant believe some people complain they dont put enough rice. Seriously? Someone doesnt know how to eat sushi. Lol my favorite is sashimi salad Hoe Dop Bab. Its got the right balance between the salad, sashimi, and rice. Yum yum. You should try!
Got adventurous tried a new place. Not good. Google rating 4.3 stars ...not what we got from sushi deluxe for 2 16 pcs. For $30 Chefs Choice of slimy salmon, tough red snaper, really sticky salki. But worst of all was a pile of yellow slime they presented as golden shrimp burnt crunchy on the bottom. I took a bite and have a heavy slim coating my mouth and gagging me an hour later. AVOID !!!!
This used to be an excellent place for sushi, but with declining customers, probably due to an influx of competition nearby, the quality is very questionable. Im not certain how much longer they can survive without the quality going further down or someone getting ill. The owner needs to start from scratch and clean up the act. Lower quality of cleanliness probably due to the owner hiring very low paid help who are not part of Asian family.
Place smelled funny tables were sticky menu was dingy with horrible pictures. The food was.... meh at best. The service was just ok.We wont be inviting the work lunch crew here and honestly I highly doubt we will ever go back. i would have been nervous to order the salmon sashimi.
Money hungry owners. They chase after people if they do not like the tip they leave. Owner is mean and greedy! The special promotions they advertise are never real. The previous owner Park, was a kind and generous man that appreciated the business. Whenever we pick up an order they leave something out or make a mistake. Much better places, like the new place across the street on Dundee Road.
Food: 3Decor: 3Service: 22.5 stars, rounding up.I came here with my roommate for Sunday dinner around 8pm after making a reservation.1. Yakitori, 5Mediocre. Yakitori had broccoli on it, which was unusual, and the chicken wasnt as good as most of the ones Ive had at other restaurants.2. Egg roll, 4Mediocre and a bit bland.3. Omakase, 23Mediocre. It came with 5 pieces of nigiri, a roll with avocado and tempura shrimp, an imitation crab roll, and two rice balls. I was hoping the omakase would be unique, but it seems that its the same everytime.4. Chefs special with rice, 15Okay, but still much better than the average Japanese restaurant.Dinner came with complimentary edamame (subpar), miso soup (mediocre), and mochi (mango was really good).Service was friendly, but they didnt refill my empty glass of water.

2022-02-06Ive been to Japan twice. I wont waste your time. Give them your money. Ive spent plenty of time eating sushi and being disappointed. This was not that. The soba was superb and the sushi brought me back to Osaka. The prices are fair for the quality. Enjoy!

2022-01-05Small portion sizes for a high cost. Ordered a platter to go for two which cost around $50, and the size of the portions could barely feed one person.Went to this restaurant based on recent reviews which is misleading since they’re all positive, perhaps my experience is not a normal one. Regardless, there are plenty of other sushi places around which give you much more and similar quality for the same price.Changing my review to 1 star after trying the food. It’s been approximately 10 mins since we picked up the food and disappointed in the quality of it - the rice is ice cold like it’s been just refrigerated. Also, I’d like to emphasize how petite and tiny the sushi pieces are.

2021-10-31In all the years we have been coming to Hanabi weve never found better sushi! Always fresh, always high-quality, even the edamame is better than anywhere else. Special rolls are all great, and the basic rolls are all too-notch as well. I wish we lived closer, I would order all the time!

2021-03-30Amazing and fresh sushi!! As a local, I have tried countless other sushi places in the area and can wholeheartedly say no other sushi compares to Hanabi’s. The fish is always very fresh and the sushi is made with little rice so you can taste the fish. I’ve never had a bad experience here and continue to order sushi from here at least once a month. My personal favorite rolls are the LA roll and the Hanabi roll. Please go check them out if you haven’t for some delicious sushi! You won’t regret it!

2021-08-31Had a few tasty rolls and a strawberry Ramune. Pleasantly surprised with the sushi at this hidden nook of a place. Check it out if youre craving sushi while in Buffalo Grove.

2020-03-01This is a very authentic Japanese restaurant. The sushi was extremely fresh and delicious! I also LOVED how the waitstaff were not jumping down your throat and overly aggressive. They would always come at the right times. Sushi is a delicacy that should take time to eat and not feel rushed! You can definitely taste how much handy work went into making each piece! Highly recommend and will return soon.

2020-07-21When the pandemic hit, this was one of the first places I chose to support. They forgot two of my items for delivery, and originally made it seem like I would just get those items deducted from my bill. When the charges cleared for the full amount, I had to get angry on the phone for them to finally offer me an actual refund, but only if I came and picked it up from them, not back on my card. All of this with extreme attitude, as if I had done something wrong.Tonight, I decided Id give it another try, but for pick-up. I waited until their happy hour time, and once I got there, she insisted that the happy hour pricing that they display so clearly on their website was dine-in only, which they are not currently doing. Then she told me I would just have to deal with it because she makes the rules. This business does not respect its customers and does not hold true to its offers. If the Happy Hour pricing was no longer valid, it shouldnt be on the website as if all is well as they havent been serving dine in since march.I wont be coming here again. For reference, below is my original review, when I was able to dine in.Original Review: This is a fantastic place for fresh sushi. Its pretty small and quaint, but delicious. Hard to find, but well worth it when you do!

2019-07-13First visit, sat outside. Great idea, they brought a button to push to call for someone, which meant no hovering waiter! Thats a good thing in my book. Sushi was excellent, and enjoyed a plate full of rolls. Great place to enjoy a birthday dinner celebration.
