PHENOMENAL! The sushi was fresh & the udon noodle soup was delicious. We ordered the party platter the waiter was awesome very polite and professional very knowledgeable of the menu and had our party platter prepared out to us in a timely manner since we were on our way to ohare. The decor is very pretty, the private enclosed booths were nice for privacy, the complimentary miso soup was a very good appetizer. We will be back again when visiting town!
I have been going to this restaurant for 7-8 years and it was my to-go place for sushi, but after they opened the second restaurant the quality of both food and service has declined noticeably. Staple dishes have different flavors or ingredients, rude waiters/waitresses, awful Customer Service, and items running out, or no longer being offered but still being advertised (e.g., bubble tea). On my last visit the miso soup was served in styrofoam cups and salad was no longer offered. Ive mentioned this to Chuck (the owner) but he always tries to justify it by being too busy or ignoring the issue (no apologies or attempt to mitigate our bad experience) I will never step in that place again which, by the way, is not cheap either.
This was my first time here. I thought the interior was beautiful and great to impress a date! I hope to return and try more dishes but so far we only got basic maki rolls. However, they were delicious! When we tried to order more (by now it was 2pm) they could not serve us anything that required frying because they had shut off the deep fryer (closes at 2:30p). I dont think thats fair but the lady was polite when she informed us and that wont stop us from returning.
It was my first time here and it was amazing. We were able to get a table around 630 on a Saturday even though we didn’t have a reservation. There were big wooden dividers between the booths for covid and some of the plates/containers were disposable, too. The food came quickly and was delicious and at least 4-5 different employees greeted us and then said goodbye and thank you as we left! I’ll definitely be coming here again!
DON’T BE FOOLED by the old photos or reviews from Management.Ordered Shrimp Teriyaki based on the great reviews and photos of large delicious shrimp and teriyaki with fresh vegetables. What I received was GARBAGE. Gray small shrimp with old carrots and onions in a weird sauce. I threw this s———t away immediately!
Best sushi place hands down. The chef Chuck is a genius and comes up with many original ideas for delicious food! One of the few authentic places for sushi (theres wasabi underneath the fish, and its all brushed with a little bit of soy, nothing extra is needed). Also many original options for sushi rolls if youre into that. Chuck also will do omakase requests (leaving it up to the chef) and create new concoctions on the spot!
Hidden gem! We usually carry out but ditched the kids for a night and slipped out for some sushi. Decor is really fun for the burbs and the staff is very friendly. House Miso soup is great, the salad is fantastic! Tempura veggies to start are excellent. All the special rolls are great but really love the Red Dragon among others. Wife ordered the beef teriyaki with fried rice and loved it! Love. This. Place.
Overall a decent experience, but not sure Ill be returning. First of all, when I walked in it was fairly crowded, but none of the patrons were Japanese. Considering this is the NW Suburbs and there is a sizable Japanese population in the area, this wasnt a good sign. Next, I noticed the menu had both Korean and Japanese cuisine on it, which is something I never understand as these are two separate cuisines and two separate cultures and unless youre running a Pan-Asian restaurant there is really no reason why both should be on the menu. Atmosphere was pleasant and inviting with lots of wood and booths that are almost like small rooms. Service was friendly and approachable, though timing was a bit off. However, the sushi itself wasnt overly impressive. Im not saying it was bad, it just wasnt very exciting. Both quality and technique were average. Certainly edible and, at times fun (the Dragon roll was rather enjoyable), but far from what it could be.
This is my second time coming to Hakuya and Ive greatly enjoyed both times. The sushi and sashimi are fresh and thick cut which can be hard to find in a suburban sushi restraunt. Price was pretty standard and decor was a little strange, but that didnt impact my experience. Wait staff was nice and unintrusive as well. Overall I had a very relaxing time and I think its a great little gem for a date or if you just like sushi!
The fancy incandescent bulbs for mood lighting dont do sushi in this picture and justice. It was probably some of the best Sushi Ive had in the Chicago area. The rolls are over sized. Normally when you order a tuna roll at other places it has tiny pieces of tuna in it the thickness of a pencil, the tuna in our roll was easily double or triple that size. The avocado roll had huge pieces of avocado as well. The specialty rolls were amazing and all the rolls were much larger then Ive seen at any other sushi place. We stopped in for their lunch hour and ordered off the menu and were pleasantly surprised to find out that miso soup, salad and edamame were all free with the order. Service was great and we left stuffed for about 30% less then we normally spend at other sushi restaurants. This place is an excellent find.
Wow, excellent food, wonderful service, and beautiful restaurant! Sushi even came with edamame, miso soup, and salad that was served soon after we arrived! Would highly recommend for sushi lovers looking for something delicious and new. The spicy salmon roll was very unique and served in warm, fresh tempura.
I like this place, the lunch specials are good theyre fairly standard. Ive never had a dine in experience so I cant comment on that but the girls at the front that take your order are very nice and kind. The sushi is good, fresh and quick. One thing I do notice is that my shrimp tempura is prepared differently almost every time I go there, I dont mind as its always good but I think it depends on who is behind the sushi station.
Not impressed. Paper plates, and plastic silverware and cups should not be used in restaurants where you are paying a premium for anything. Our crab Rangoon was cold inside and the sushi was poor. The entire experience was actually embarrassing and we willNot be returning
By far our favorite sushi place in the burbs! The quality of fish is so good and the ratio of fish to rice is on point. Chef Chuck is super friendly and cool- I love to see an amazingly talented family business. We moved about 40 mins away from this place but still drive regularly to get it because it’s just that good
First time coming to this place, I have had food from there before. Food is not bad, however our visit was very disappointing we got seated, the waiter gave us a cup of water and basically forgot about us. She didn’t even bother to welcome us or even ask if we wanted some drinks as most places do. While this was happening another couple was seated. They got their drinks and appetizers, our waiter never came back we had to go get her. Probably she wasn’t having a good day or something but we didn’t feel welcomed there. The cooks are nice people.
Ordered from here regularly and the sushi was great (months ago). Now, it seems that there are new staff and the food was not great. The sushi may be good but the entrees are not good at all. Maybe for a quick lunch it might be good but I would suggest grabbing an entree elsewhere.
Previously happy with this restaurant and gave 5 stars. But very disappointed tonights visit. First, waiter messed up with one of the dishes so we had to wait another 10-15 mins to get the right one. Also we werent notified theres jalapeños (many slices) in my sons Chicken Udon. Nowhere in the menu indicates that it is spicy. Obviously he could not handle the spiciness and didnt enjoy the food at all.I mention it to the waiter it wouldve been nice if we were notified especially when I ordered it for a child. He said sorry that he didnt.Previously experience 5 star, todays experience 0 star. So I will leave it as 2 stars.
This place was delicious and refreshing. I ordered the lunch combo with the shrimp tempura roll, nigiri, and chicken teriyaki. I’m not a big sushi guy (but I’m working to change that) so I underestimated how much food that was, which meant I could take the chicken teriyaki home and eat that for dinner which was pretty clutch. The nigiri was definitely my favorite, but I liked the roll a lot too which was important development in my return to the sushi world. Sabrina clearly liked it a lot too because she went back a week later, so that’s a good sign for their business. Overall: 5/5 super solid.
Despite the many COVID restrictions on restaurants currently, I must say that this sushi joint knows their food. Even better: they know how to treat their customers, make them happy, and hungry for more! It is one of the many many reasons why my family and I keep coming back time and time again. Hands down one of the best sushi spots in town! Highly highly recommended.
The Hakuya sushi restaurant is a staple of all that is right in this world. Have been going there for lunch during work for 3 years now. I’m averaging about 1/2-1/3 my Friday lunch at this fabulous restaurant. It’s just the best! Sushi? great! Katsu? great! Service, Great! Bubble tea, great! Prices, great! I live I. Chicago but work in wheeling and I will never buy sushi downtown again, it’s over priced, and the quality is equal to or less than Hakuya. I love this place and recommend it to anyone who love sushi or Katsu or would like to try something new
Great food, great vibes, great serverI love the inside of the place it gives it such a relaxing vibe, the music was great too! We had the super crunch and the king dragon both were great. Prices are reasonable as well. Our server recommended an apple flavored sake drink and it was delicious. We loved her! Anyway, overall a great place and well be coming back.
Hands down best sushi in the area. I honestly dont know where to go outside of Hakuya for decent sushi. Great lunch options, super friendly service and maki rolls to die for. Ive tried almost all the signature rolls here and there isnt one i didnt like. Personal favorite is the Hot Chuck. If youre not a fan of spicy, the Sexy Lady and Salmon Addiction are also among my top orders here.
Come here with my friends almost every week (before covid) I love the sushi that they give you and the service in the restaurant is the best. One employee even talked to us about the school we were attending. The other one was always happy to see us and greeted us with a huge smile on her face, which immediately made our day better. Cant wait to go to there again after the quarantine!
I truly love this place. They have great sushi, great non-sushi entrees and the owner Chuck is really cool. They just remodeled the whole place and it looks beautiful and much more modern. Their sushi menu goes on for days! And every roll I have gotten there has been absolutely delicious. I recommend the Abigail roll, the sweet potato roll, and pretty much any of their specialty rolls. Hands down my favorite sushi place and the customer service there could not be better. Theyre also great at catering to specific food requests and food restrictions. Highly recommend :)
So, Im sure all the NW suburb Sushi lovers all remember Sakura, the incredible sushi joint that went down in a fire and never reopened.Still with me?GO. HERE. Its just as good, and the prices are very reasonable. They recently remodeled the entire inside and it looks so good, not to mention that their rolls are very well-made.
I wanted to try a new Sushi place and was very disappointed with Hakuya. I asked to substitute a roll for the same price as what was offered and they told me there will be an up charge. Sushi is made to order and not already made before you order...very disappointed. Im going back to old faithful Naomi Sushi on Rand rd. They allow substitutions at the same price point at no up charge. bummer I really wanted to change places. I eat at Naomi once a week.
Ive driven by this place for the past year-and-a-half but have never stopped in... Until today that is. I looked up the reviews online and it came highly recommended and I must say that I tend to agree. This place has great sushi with average prices (not too high or low). The quality of the fish was great and I got the Abigail Roll which was warm, friend, and delicious.
Id dare to say that this is the best sushi Ive had in a while, and believe me when I say Ive had many. Prices are excellent compared with the quality sushi youre getting. Recommendations: Hot Chuck, Golden Mustang and O.M.G.PS: my wife and I go to that place so much that the chef asked us if we always order the same thing. Thats how good this place is
Amazing food at reasonable prices. The best sushi restaurant I had tried so far. Chuck offers personal service and his staff is always very courteous and welcoming. The tables are clean and all is organized and in order. I go there regularly for Sexy Lady roll and nigiri, because the fish tastes fresh and delicious. If you live in the area and love sushi, this should be your place to go on the regular basis.
We have eaten here twice so far and it has become our favorite Japanese Sushi restaurant. I have loved everything I have tried so far. The miso soup is so yummy, shrimp tempura roll is absolutely delicious, teriyaki chicken is great, and the Udon that I normal don’t like elsewhere I really like here. Definitely a great find.
My husband and I stopped by for a late lunch with our almost one year old son. The food was amazing. Even more important the staff was extremely helpful and sweet to our son. They made sure he had plenty of miso soup and entertained him while we ate. We will definitely be back regularly.
I was on a quick trip and wanted some sushi so I busted out the Yelp app and this place popped up. Sushi places are a dime a dozen in this area but getting a good one can be challenging. Hakuya Sushi did not disappoint! The fish was excellent and service was very good. I will most definitely be back!
Ive been to tons of sushi restaurants in the Chicagoland area.. even expensive ones in the loop, and this is by far the BEST sushi Ive ever eaten. The balance of flavors was perfect with every single roll, very affordable prices, they use the freshest fish ever, and the staff goes out of their way to make your experience fantastic. I recommend this place to everyone. A+
This is the only place for sushi I go to because I always know I will leave with a full stomach and complete satisfaction. When I do choose to break my diet even slightly (low carbs) I would rather come here than any other food place out there. Fails to disappoint every time. Very happy for Chuck and family with their newest Sushi restaurant (Haku) as well! Check out these restaurants if you want pure Bliss in your mouth! 😁
They all said that this restaurant was the BEST sushi restaurant in town. Well, they got that right. I just moved to town with my wife and we went here for a date and everything was AMAZING. The food was fresh, hot, and delicious. We didn’t expect to eat so much! We left feeling very full and very satisfied! Our recommendation: try the Apple Sake! It’s not strong at all and tastes like apple juice haha
I cannot say enough about Chef Chuck and the staff at Hakuya. My husband and I sat at the sushi bar to celebrate our anniversary and they did not disappoint! Unique and delicious - amazing salads, and incredible sushi rolls and nigiri! Best sushi weve had in a very long time! Thank you all for a wonderful evening!
Have driven by here frequently but never went inside, outside doesnt really stick out as notable. Now were disappointed we didnt try this place sooner. Very creative food, starting with the water which is infused with lemon, apple, and cucumber (super delicious). Amazingly friendly staff, the owner and chef came out to chat a few times. Prices are extremely reasonable, cant recommend highly enough.UPDATE: Been coming here off an on for awhile, and I think I can say now that its the best sushi place I know of in the suburbs. Everything is consistently fresh, and perfectly made. Just tried their kimchi for the first time today (they do have a limited selection of Korean dishes) and I knew right away it was homemade. Have never tasted kimchi that fresh before (and Ive been to a lot of Korean restaurants).
Fresh, delicious, sushi with thick slices of fish, with just the right amount of spice or cream cheese or whatever else you might find in your roll of choice to bring out the flavor of the fish instead of masking it. I cant believe this is so close to home - Im completely beside myself with glee right now.Update: its been 6 years and Im still in love. I have eaten here a mortifying number of times and picked up sushi to go even more often and Ive never had a bad experience.
Chuck and the staff are great. Very nice and attentive without being overbearing. The sushi is great quality, large pieces of fresh fish, fresh vegetables, and the rice is high quality as well. Every meal I get comes with edimame, miso soup, and a salad for no additional charge. I love sushi and have tried many different places in the area and this is, without question, my favorite. The values is unbeatable. You may pay a bit more than some of the all you can eat places, but the quality they serve is worth every penny and compared to the other a la carte sushi restaurants, they are usually a bit less expensive as still better sushi. If I had any complaints,it could be a little bit cleaner, but it is by no means a dirty establishment or gross or anything like that. Also 90% of the specialty rolls have teriyaki sauce and it isnt necessary and if you ask they have no problem making it without. The décor isnt really flattering or anything too over the top and special, but it isnt ugly either. Those are my only very small critiques.I love this place. Go because its the best sushi in town and for the price it is an insane value.
Food was really good. Interior is new. But service was not very good. They only brought 3 lunch menus and 2 dinner menus and we were eating dinner as a 3. And they only included 2 chopsticks. The rice was kinda all over the place. I also think they should add miso soup to the menu because I had to ask them to order miso soup. Last thing is that music was kinda strange. It was more for road radio. They should change the music to something more for restaurant. Some of the servers were nice. Though we only stayed an hour and we got about 10 different servers it was fine. Food came out pretty fast.
It was my second favorite sushi place, since the first one is now out of business, this one made it to the top XP. Their sushi is really tasty, but personally I would expect a warmer experience, price is fair and sushi variety is very decent. Very good music and friendly staff.
This place is my to-go lunch place for between my work breaks. It has been absolutely great and super friendly staff. Cannot really say anything negative about this place. It has a wide variety of options for everyone, and so far everything we have tried been fantastic. Definitely go back again
I really felt that I had really great quality fish. The best that i ve ever eaten. Also the prices are not bad especially during lunch time. We had the Tuna Poke which i thought was made perfectly and had a great sauce mixed in. Then we go Nigri and spicy salmon rolls. Best ive ever had and 2 lunch combos with tuna poke came out to $25. Also the lunch combo comes with miso soup and a house salad. I would def come back here for lunch. I was very loyal to Sushi Para, but Hakuya is better in my opinion.
This will be our third visit to HAKUYA. The first two were excellent and showed great promise for future great experiences. Sadly, not today. I dont know what happened except the owner wasnt there, but we got tuna rolls with old tasting dark brown tuna. Spotty service, the rolls seemed skimpy compared to previous and no EDAME which was on the table the previous two visits. The MISO soup was watery instead of rich tasting. In short, pretty much everything was off the mark, and for the life of me, I dont know why. We had great hopes for this place, even though it looks a bit shabby, because it is close to home. I have to say that during the past three months we discovered another place on Barrington Road in Streamwood named MINAMI. This cute little place is so excellent in every respect that it has become pretty much our benchmark, but we still liked HAKUYA until today, so - - - we intend to try this place one more time; - - hopefully when the owner/chef is there. I guess well see. It is so disappointing to experience restaurants that cant maintain their standards.
Worst sushi Ive had in a long time, especially for the money. I ordered a eel Maki and a shrimp Tempura to go and I called back in to tell them they didnt give me my eel. Turns out they did give me eel... I just couldnt identify it because the eel was paper thin and they drowned the entire dish in panko. My girlfriends shrimp dish was mediocre at best and was also drowned in panko. The wasabi was not spicy and tasted like it had dry chunks in it. Also, ordered Ikura (salmon eggs) and they where kinda dry and tacky like they had been sitting out.The seaweed salad was the only thing that tasted as expected.I eat raw fish and sushi all of the time. Someone that likes sushi from a mall kiosk stand or Walgreens might be fine here if you dont mind paying 2x for the same thing but if your a conasour of raw fish dont look for quality here.

2021-10-26This is my second visit to this restaurant. The male staff serving was very friendly and made me feel good. The sushi quality is very good and delicious compared to other places. There are cheaper restaurants around, but I will come here even if its a little more expensive. This is one of the restaurants I would happily recommend to my family and friends.

2022-04-15I used to order a lot from this place, as I really liked how fresh and well prepared sushi were. But the last couple of times this place disappointed me, poorly made sushi, soy sauce smelled very old. Yesterday I placed an order, and I think it will be the last time ordering from there. I found few bones in the fish, the roll with shrimp tempura did not even had it, instead I found only some shrimp tails which did not even were pilled of the skin.

2022-06-05I have been going to Hakuya sushi for many years consistently, this is only because of how well made there sushi is and the amazing taste that chuck and his chefs make. The sushi around here is not amazing and I feel that the only restaurant who should be making sushi is Hakuya. I can’t really explain it because it’s such a regular treat I am used to it. Overall it’s some damn good sushi and I would highly recommend it

2022-05-22Absolutely recommend! Smaller spot but was convenient, available (Saturday ~6.30pm without reservations), everything was delicious with a large array of options, and the service was really great too everyone was super nice. We were super hungry so we ordered quite a bit: the shrimp tempura, the Bibimbap shrimp and beef dishes, and the chicken with shrimp fried rice. We also got a miso soup which was fantastic (we couldnt find on the menu, but our waiter asked if we would like it). We had come here a couple of years ago while dating and now accidentally ended up back here married, still just as delicious! We never tried the Bibimbap before and decided to go different & highly recommend (picture = pre- mixed)!!!! It comes with a little sauce on the side which we werent sure what it was but it has to be added to the dish and mixed. It was sooooooo good. I took half home and ended up eating the rest at home 🤭.

2022-04-26Hakuya has the best lunch specials. The 3 roll lunch special is my favorite!!! It is a great proportion for the price. Ordering is easy online. They are usually busy at lunch time, so call ahead. Their spicy sauce is slightly sweet while being spicy, so so good!We stopped by for dinner, and with covid, I think they’re short staffed. We weren’t able to dine in, so that wasn’t great, but we understood.

2022-07-22Small sushi spot with great food and an immersive atmosphere. Sushi is prepared fresh along with various other hot/cold dishes. Decor inside is very reminiscent of an authentic sushi experience and elevates your meal. Service was attentive and the pricing is standard for sushi in the area.

2021-07-24We ordered take out for game night with friends and it did not disappoint. It was so worth it to order a few different rolls and apps to just share with everyone. When you pick up your food, they’re super nice and organized. The service was awesome!

2022-04-08Fantastic lunch deal! I did takeout, and they packed everything so nicely and provided plenty of utensils. There were no mistakes and very accommodating to a large order since I ordered for over 7 people. Highly recommend!

2022-07-01Always good. Great staff. This is my familys go-to place for sushi.
