Jewel-Osco in other cities:
Love Jewel Osco on Howard and and Kedzie. A very organized and pleasure to work with. Kind staff, organized store. Clean and always accommodating in carry kosher food needs for daily and holiday needs. Also love their drive up and go. Thank you all at Jewel for your service.
Prices are thru the roof. Ever since a competitor was bought out and raised its prices, Jewel jumped right in and also pushed prices beyond high, into the highest levels you can find. If I was young I would open a store just to restore normalcy and put Jewel back in its place.
When I’m in my officer uniform, I get so much respect from this store. When Im in my civilian clothes and enter the store, Im look at as a thief. Today I decided to purchase some wine. Two employees entered the isle I was in, one on one end, staring at a display, havent moved a bit. The other on the other end, she plays like shes on the phone. I found my bottle of wine and placed it in my cart. Neither employee asked if I needed help. I just stared at the one employee who stared at a display to act like he was doing something. I just want the store to know that every black man doesnt steal and I should deserve the respect as if I was in uniform. SMH! Other than this, I been shopping here for 5 years.
Woman and daughter were robbed at gunpoint at the Jewel parking lot. Two african american males drove by in a maroon sedan and snatched her purse with the credit cards, cash, car fob, phone, appointment book etc. No security gaurd outside of store. Not safe!Prices are way too high! Kosher tuna is over $3 a can. Plastic cutlery insane price. Plastic cups $18 for 600, insane! Styrofoam plates and bowls $7 or $8 for 100. Insane!!!!!! What is wrong woth this place? Meat prices regularly rise. Every few mo ths they keep putting it up. Till when will they get away with this highway robbery?! How can anybody live?!
Experience was good. Everyone was following COVID-19 protocols and employees were friendly. Even the bank staff was polite and professional.Went on 3/2/22 and was told the the fresh squeezed orange juice is made early in the morning and it only lasts until it sells out, until the next day.
What a horrible experience. Stopped by on Thanksgiving for one item. The store was packed. Most of the children were unmasked. Some adults were unmasked. There was no social distancing. To be fair the majority wore masks but there was no regard for the other rules of the pandemic. Though the cashiers were working efficiently, the lines were so long, the wait was so long, and all in line were crowded together. I believe we stood even closer to each other than in pre-pandemic times. I used to like this store but, based on what they allowed to occur today, I plan to never go there again. There are plenty of grocery stores that do their best to try to keep their patrons safe. Theres no reason to patronize one that doesnt.
Terrible produce. Especially berries and grapes. Signature brand Pizza is actually, in my opinion, better than Totinos, Connies, Screamin Sicilian, tombstone, anyting. You need to check out the cooler across from the meat case, 85/15 ground beef marked down makes great chili or meatloaf. Or hamburgers!
Meh...Prices are high here, and a lot of the kosher foods are not so tasty. The vegetables are not the best and they are very expensive. I have been going to my local market where the prices can be anywhere between 1/3 and 1/2 the price. And depending upon when you go, the people there can be really pushy. Everybody is out for themselves and they will push their way in front of your cart and not even say excuse me. Its not a friendly place. They also will get up into your personal space without any sense of propriety. Generally when people make contact, they say something social. How are you doing, excuse me, Im sorry do you mind if I come through....These people are barely civilized even though they think they are. They like a generalized wordly social more system. They may adhere to Jewish law, but it means nothing when youre not being a mensch. The isolationism and reverse discrimination of the Jewish community there gives Chicago a bad name. Such disapproving, sad people. It can make it quite an ordeal to shop there.
Jewel-Osco offers a wide variety of standard grocery fare items as well as ethnic foods. Theres a very large kosher foods department including a bakery, deli, takeout, freezer(s), cholov Yisrael dairy section and wine shelf. Plus theres the additional benefit of a full-service pharmacy onsite. They lose one star on pricing which can sometimes be a bit high, but overall they remain competitive. As an extra added bonus, their shopping bags are in a league of their own - and you dont have to pay the Chicago ten cent tax per bag because theyre situated in Evanston!
This is one of my favorite Jewels. I have two! This one has a large selection of kosher & gluten free (healthy)foods. They also have a nice size selection of ice cream. Just about every brand. The isles are nicely spaced & products placed. But they are bit pricey when you consider some of the other stores.
Seems theyre never in stock with what I want/need. Not Your Fathers Root Beer, Keystone ice, microwavable bacon or ANY REASONABLY PRICED BACON! Went in for a bottom round on sale, only 2 giant packages available. I have to choose from with a $40 or $50 roast - cooking for two. Where are the prepackaged scallops in the frozen section? Neither side in stock. Swiss slices on sale? Out of stock. Alpine lace, or the deli swiss - ? Sorry. Only brick cheese at the deli counter.Plenty of employees walking around, though. Blocking aisles, chatting.
This review is for the service on the deli side I am here today 12/14/21 at 6:44pm and the cook that cooks the food for the deli is the best employee thus far in this store his customer service is really the best in all the jewels I’ve ever been too 5 star for him forsure
Maria the Bakery manager is the best in the world. The fresh baked breads are so tasty and crisp you will be back for more. The managment team works well with the staff. The store is very well organized and very sanitary and clean. The meat department has magnificent variety and high quality products. The deli is great. Attend.
The payroll department totally ignored my written tax papers where I stated that I was filing as head of household with three dependents. I was listed as single, with 0 allowances under the federal and with 5 allowances under the state. It had to be the person that I interviewed with, she was the only one with access. Very deceptive. If youre gonna work here, make sure you check ✔️ your filing status.
Love going to jewel in the mornings. No problem ever with parking and everything is easy to find. Only wish they had a variety of fruits. Sometimes i do not find the fruits i wanted other days they have them. The staff is great. I usually do self checkout, and wish there were more staff to assist. Sometimes i wait 5 min til someone actually helps cause they are busy assisting someone else
The last four times I have been here over the last few months they have been incredibly short staffed and register lines were long. Understandable during the pandemic, but now it’s unacceptable, especially considering your prices are up 30% YOY. When I brought the up to the store manager he rolled his eyes at me.You lost a customer , call me back when you are staffed up.
This store has gone downnnnnnnnhill in recent months. It was dirty and disorganized the last time we were there. There were NO CARTS, and when they finally wrangled some carts, there were no WIPES with which to clean the cart.We were there during the traditional dinner rush and yet there were only 4 checkout lines open. The staff are nice and generally helpful, but overall not a great experience.Lots of room for improvement.
Nice store, helpful staff. Avoid self check-out machines, theyre either extremely sensitive while your scanning and bagging or are in need of a service or upgraded equipment. The self checkout employees are usually busy trying to quickly troubleshoot 4-5 checkout machines that are binging errors left and right.
Very nice and very helpful. I was so bad off with my back and knee paining me, I was by myself because my husband was in quarantine and the cashier at the self checkout station, brought a chair for me to sit down in and she did all the work to help me. I m so grateful that you have people like them that dont give it a second thought of helping people who are in distress. Thank you so much! Please look at this free website @JW.ORG
This is the worst Jewel Ive ever shopped at. Ive had issues with pick up orders missing items, its hard to find stuff inside, and its not particularly clean. If you go when its busy, shopping becomes difficult because of customers standing around socializing instead of just getting shopping done. Just today, an employee nearly ran me over with a cart and then complained aloud, People never look anymore.Man, I hate this place.
I go here weekly for my groceries. Location and selection are great, though over priced I feel. One thing that has really bothered my in the last several months is they dont seem to take the pandemic seriously anymore. Employees not wearing masks properly and not social distancing. And definitely not enforcing it for customers either. Also note that if you shop online, you wont get the full selection. Especially for the specialty gluten free foods.
Went to buy some flowers I got 3 bouquets from 3X12$ & a dozen of flowers for $9.99Went to floral desk to ask for help to put them together, “EVELYN” was there talking on her cell phone while I was there waiting, after few minutes she acknowledge me, I ask her to please put my flowers together, she was not happy at all first thing she said to me was ohh! We charge for that is going to be extra, which I said is fine, she goes let me tell you first how much, her tone was more like she was not having a good day. she told me it was going to be $32 total. I told her once again that it was fine, after that it was a total silence until she finish.I don’t or anyone have to put up with this attitude you are not doing me or anyone a favoryou want to have a personal phone call fine, take a break ,but there is no need for attitude.NOT COMING BACK to this location rather to drive a couple more miles than go back to Evelyn.
Brought my mom to the pharmacy there for the flushot. Came right when they had a rush with 10 ppl in line for the covid shot lol. Ended waiting for 1 hour before they can give her the shot. The person who vaccinated my mom, I believe Julietta, was extremely graceful and efficient eventhough it obviously was hectic for her and the pharmacy team. My mom said the shot didnt hurt at all !! Thank you Julietta. And keep on vaccinating ;)
This store online service is very poor. I order grocery pick up 24 hours before the next day pickup at 4p. My grocery pick up wasnt ready until 8p on the day of pickup. I had to call to find out the status of my order and they still only had 1/2 my order ready when I did pick it up. I call the customer service line and waited a hour and no one ever picked up. The next day jewel canceled my order and refund me my money. Then they turn around a day later and charge me for the order and sent me an email instead of a text that they had been using to notify me telling me my order was ready. I did not give permission to refill my order nor did they call me to see if I still wanted the order. Plus they charge me more the second time for the order. How can a store do this to a customer. This service is very poor and its a disgrace on how they handle customer service. I have shopped at this store for years. This changes my loyalty to Jewel s and shedd a very bad light. On their service.
This jewel need to work on there customer service !!!Olivia or olimpia one of those two is her name she works in the hot food area when she was giving me my food she looked real real mad not only thatshe gave me the worst attitude ever made me feel real uncomfortable if your having a bad day dont take it off on customers at least put a fake smile on your face Im never ever buying food here especially with that attitude.
This jewel is really a hot mess. Theres no social distancing in the self-checkout and one of the checkers had to help me with something and put her hands in the bag that had gloves on but it had touched a bunch of different things. I really didnt appreciate her touching my things she could have asked me to touch my own.another time I was at a register and the cashier had been given cash and she had a lot of trouble dealing with counting it she had to count it five times which makes me really concerned for the quality of their training and their simple math capabilities
Great store, very well run. They have a huge kosher section spanning 3 full aisles plus a kosher bakery, butcher, fish market and deli. They also have a kosher salad bar. The kosher wine selection is quite impressive and priced competitively. They are really good at staffing up for busy days/hours.
Ill give Jewel a 4 star, for the price, variety and overall availability of brands that I love most. However, though it has the ability to rise to 5 stars, my only criticism, so far, focuses more on profiling. I shop at this, and other locations, at least 7 times per week, no exaggeration, but I still experience security following and watching me while I shop; so uncomfortable. And if its not security (quantity control) then its some suspicious folk experienced mostly every time I shop at Jewels. Please, as much as I enjoy shopping with Jewels please make me feel welcome also.
Went to buy Turkey and sodas for Thanksgiving. Turkey was advertise 47c a pound, so we went to the spot where the turkeys are. Bought 2 and go to check out. Afterwards, saw that it was charged 40$ per turkey, went to customer service to see if can get reimburse. Was refused, so we wanted a refund, both the rep n manager refused stating that bc we left the store. We even explained to them that we just outside the door and re enter, not like we left a few hours. Both rep and manager wouldnt hear any of it, and just flatly denied. So much for customer service. Cannot believe such reputable company would do such thing. Will never shop there again.
They have such a large and varied selection of groceries.I particularly appreciate their customer serivce from the workers you speak with down the aisle to the manager in charge of the shift. Everyone either knows where things are or will drop everything to help you find what you need. That, great promotions and an excellent kosher section have made this jewel a weekly routine in my family.
I like this Jewel location a lot because it’s easy to find everything inside the store. The employees at this store are generally friendly and sincere at checkout. It can get very busy on Sunday nights, so just be prepared to stand in line. Another aspect I like is they keep this location clean.
The store is clean well-organized bright and a pleasure to shop in. Last week I bought an item that turned out to be 18 months expired. Tonight I went to the same item in the same place on the same shelf and removed 15 more, and turned them in to the office. Somebody is not rotating his shelf when he restocks it. In my humble opinion, this is the detail that cost Jewel the star that Im withholding.
There has been a lot of talk in the neighborhood about lax safety and sanitation at this site. Unfortunately, I have to agree with my neighbors, you simply have to go it on your own with this grocery store. I observed shopping carts that werent cleaned after they were returned, no wipes at the entrance, and several of the employees without masks or gloves. I dont like to give negative reviews , however, Im hoping that Albertsons will read this post and make the necessary changes, its important to keep us safe, especially when we go to the grocery store.
The store is very good but I found a cashier who treated me very badly. I asked him for information on how he could use the gift cards. He shouted at me that I had to tell him before I scanned everything I was carrying. I couldnt use the cards and I had to pay him cash. but I went to customer service and they returned my money and accepted the gift cards very badly for the man, he shouldnt do that with people
This store has a very diverse selection of food. There is a kosher food section as well as a regular section. It even has a kosher deli and bakery, and of course a regular deli and bakery. They are also a 24/7 grocery store. They have a pharmacy that is also 24/7. No matter what time or eating restrictions this store is reliable. They also offer jobs to people who might not have the same chances as most people. And the staff is great very charismatic and willing to help with whatever you need. That is why i rate this store a 5/5.
I very rarely shop at Jewel. Not that its a negative place to be. This one on Howard and Kedzie has a spectacular Kosher market (FYI there is currently Hamentashen available, do yourself a favor and get the apricot flavor). I do manage to get better prices on things like sliced cheese and produce at mom and pop type grocers, so Jewel is a sometimes store. On the up side, besides the Kosher market, the staff is friendly and the store is open 24 hours. If your like me and running around like a mad woman on a mission 24 hour access is key, hence why I stopped there this evening at 11p.m..
MISINFORMED PHARMACY STAFF TOLD US THEY DO COVID TESTING, BREAK BETWEEN 1 AND 2, WE COME IN AND THEY SAY ONLY VAX I USED TO BE A FREQUENT CUSTOMER TO THIS CHAIN BUT WILL NO LONGER USE IT. TIRED OF WASTING GAS BECAUSE SOMEONE DOESNT KNOW WHAT SERVICES THEIR OWN PHARMACY OFFERS.
This particular Jewel we refer to as the Ghetto Jewel. It is poorly run and tends to be in disrepair on a regular basis. Many times when weve had a question, the staff does not have an answer...and they do not offer to find out! Love their bakery but it too is often an iffy proposition. We use this store because its close to home but dont experience these issues at other Jewel locations. The produce section is often sadly lacking and for the prices they charge you would think they would offer a better experience. If this is your store complain to someone. Review on Yelp. Contact headquarters. If its not... dont bother. There are better Jewel stores!
The most kosher jewel grocery store that I have ever been to. This grocery store certainly caters towards its clientele. Abundance of kosher items and items for Jewish holidays. The store is well-maintained and the staff is excellent. I do notice that the older cash register workers tend to be more chatty so if youre in a hurry go towards younger checkout people.
I have never encountered a more prejudiced store. I have shopped at Jewel-Osco stores all over the Chicago area my whole life. This is the worst one I have ever been to. We were very happy to see the large kosher section. We expected there to be a good amount of prejudice from the customers. However, we were not prepared for the staff that ignored and were rude to us. We shopped there Wednesday night and again today. Both experiences were terrible. There are some really good employees and there are some horrible employees. When we approached the fish counter on Wednesday, they closed the shutters in our face. They reopened the shutters after we walked away, only to close them again when we reapproached. The guy collecting the carts outside gathered customers carts as he went and avoided us as we tried to hand him our cart. If we did not need a large amount of kosher for Passover food, we would never go to this store again. We will definitely be looking for other options for next year.
Horrible checkout by Yelena, when I asked what is her name, answered I have no name, charged for the item I did not purchase, instead for other item which did not look for it due to be busy with private conversation and wanted quickly to get rid of me as customer, happened to be charged more than the actual cost of the item I did purchase. Jewel Osco should not have people with no name employed and no proper customer relation training, I do shop there for 25 years, I know by sight all the employees there, so far very professional and courteous, how come this with no name got there and treats people who shop there, paying ultimately her salary so repulsively. Mr Kugler, please, take care of that employee, is shame that this store has fall so low with customer service.
This Jewel caters to a large Jewish base as well as the greater community. they are always stocked with a huge variety of Kosher items, and I have always had a pleasant experience when asking for help. Considering the HUGE demand for DAILY restocking of the kosher certified items, they do an absolutely amazing job of keeping the place organized, placing the products in efficient locations, and keeping them stocked. There is a huge floral selection, as well as pharmacy, and a bank.
Great selection of kosher products! Including but not limited to; fresh chicken, sushi, dairy products, DELICIOUS doughnuts, fresh French baguettes, pastries, and a huge selection of kosher wine! The doughnuts are really good, and are only 99¢ each, (which is amazing for kosher doughnuts!).They also have ready made shnitzel and meats and chicken wings...and more, which you can have then heat up for you, which is great for a quick bite!
I found price markers that did not match the products just above them. Products were located in more than one isle and far from each other so that you thought the products you were looking for were not in the store even though they were. This happened to me in three cases. However the help was good and the price was less than I expected.
Much better the people treated the Champion Wonderful! Only if I could fit all the Vegetarian DiGornoes in my cart. Always loving Cookie Dough 🍦 ➕ a big favorite is the Banana Raisin Bran Cereal with Soy Milk for my digestion pre-work out and/or post work-out training. Then theres the section for Olympic Gold Medalist such as myself who enjoy the produce section in the very front of the store with such a selection of fresh fruit. Things like berries, grapes, oranges and pineapples are must haves. Im looking forward to creating more 🌏 (Asian) influenced meals with the pre-cooked vegetarian fried rice with vegetarian egg rolls in addition to kiwi to top it off.😍
I used to shop here for all of the specialty items. In fact, this is the only Jewel I still shop, until now. Went in today and was very disappointed. The store is a mess. There is almost no produce. The produce section has been slowly replaced with coolers of packaged items. There are products everywhere and palletes in the middle of aisles. Light bulbs are out. Floors are dirty. There are containers outside, I hope they are preparing to rehab.
Hey, we all have to eat, right? I come Jewel for a few name brands or things at a great sale price. Generally, its got a good Deli, although there never seems to be anyone working the counter. Oh, theres six of them back there, theyre all doing something but nobody wants to deal with customers. So you stand there and they look at you, then they look at each other, now they start moving slow with whatever theyre doing so as not to be the first to finish. The game is, if youre first one done then youre the one to work the counter. Now Ive waited 3 or 4 minutes and Im the only one at the counter, but when the girl came over her body language told me I was just a pain in her ass. She was friendly in a snide sort of way which I found unwelcoming. Otherwise, its a big chain grocery store, a little pricey if youre on a budget but they have everything.
Very nice and clean jewel. My only knock is theirs a lot of Jewish people who shop here that tend to be on the feisty side a bit much. Have no clue why but Ive had more than a dozen bad experiences with them in the many years Ive been shopping here. I usually go to the jewel on Chicago Ave in evanston to avoid any trouble from them.
After having other peoples items put in my bag twice, and now today missing items I was charged for Im thinking this is not the store for me.Customer service seemed completely uninterested in my issue, and at no point apologized. Its a shame because I drive further from my house to go to this Jewel as I feel like the one on Green Bay is always understaffed. Maybe its a Jewel thing? You have made it clear you dont care about one customer, but Id look into fixing this before you lose more.
The store is ok. Sometimes not very well stocked, not as clean as it could be, the managers of the departments are awsome, but many of the general employees just point you In a direction. Some employees also have holes in their shirts, wear dirty uniforms and do not take care of personal grooming. They also smoke in front of the store by the carts, and it smells terrible, and the ground is disgusting in that area.
Been shopping at Jewel for over 40 years. Great people and a great place to shop. They have achieved a small store friendly feel in a large box that has most all of ones shopping needs, a very rare achievement these days.My one criticism: Their Mens room towards the front of the store was pretty messy with toilet paper on the wet floor and smelled strongly of urine. First time Ive ever seen this problem. All other times their facilities have been acceptably clean with little offensive oder.Still one of the best places to shop.
Coming from the West Coast where the kosher section is a year round variety of Matzah, gefilte fish and tea biscuits, this store was quite the treat. First time I have had Milky in the states. If you dont know what Milky is, kosher or not, you should try it. Pudding with whipped cream, but that description does not do it justice, so good! Pricey but that is to be expected for imported goods.
Their new customer do it yourself check out is horrible . They have 10 check out stations which were all being used and 1 angel clerk who had to run from macine to machine because they would stop every time you tried to put thru a product. She had to come to me 9 times. Complained to a manager in hopes this will be handled.
New edit this place is so ratchet nothing works here. The self check out is worse then the Express check out was.Horrible customer service. Was misled by an employee on Wednesday thats Sunday they have the $5 dozen baglessSo I came back and they didnt honer it. I then asked to speak to the manager ( Andy ) who has no customer support skills and just waisted my time even further. And after I gave up Andy walked over to lennete and she was laughing.Rip off kosher food and holiday items
Best kosher selection Ive ever seen in one store! Love shopping here. I asked my NY relatives, want anything from chicago? They ask for Jewel products. Certain teas, their kosher chinese takeout, great sushi and bakery... and their prices are up for some things but generally they have great sales. Hard for me to shop anywhere else now ;).
It is very unclear why you allow your employees. To give a service without masks, for example, those who pack bread, cakes, they breathe on products before packaging, without any mask, those who pack fresh meat, or fresh fish, my medicines today they gave me without masks, that is, the pharmacist breathes on the pills that he named me In the box, irresponsible irresponsibility
Went to deli counter, I clearly ordered Black Forest Ham, One pound, Thin sliced.I was given. 51 lbs. Half of what I asked for. Your help was so interested in helping her other workers customer, that she got mine wrong. To much cross talk behind that counter today. I did not correct my deli expert because I speak the English-language with no accent .... being born in Chicago. So the 1/2 lb is your loss. Also, upon checking out, the careless checker broke one of the flowers that we paid 5.00 for. My loss. Thanks for that too.Guess were even. Thanks for abusing my purchases.
I went to this store, and I bought some items because I was going to get $5.00 dollars off, plus a movie ticket from fandango, but I didnt get it! At the checkout send me to the costumer service and the lady who was working there said in a very bad attitude, its because you didnt met the purchase. And she turn and left, but i was preaty sure I met the purchase!

2022-05-15Good! But how does one really rate grocery stores unless something terrible/exceptional happened? Great! I got what I needed, minus the item(s) that was(were) sold out, paid and left! All in all, a good time.

2022-03-14This Jewel has a full Kosher grocery with sushi, deli, prepared fruits and veggies, meat, fish and 4 full aisles of frozen and grocery items including wine and spirits. One stop shopping with a regular grocery store in the same place, I no longer have to go ton3 different stores. Thanks Jewel

2022-06-18Its a great store with friendly workers. Im born and raised in the area and have been coming here all my life, but recently there is an elderly woman with red short hair who treated me differently than the other customers in line. This happens on three occasions. I wear a scarf and when I pleasantly greeted her she did not respond. There was another lady with a scarf in my line and she sent her to another lane declaring her line was closed. She doesnt wear a name tag but I intend on filing a complaint. Its a shame that you can treat others nicely in front of people that youre clearly discriminating against. I thought our society was better educated and more open minded.

2022-06-12Came to get flowers for a graduation ceremony and had no idea what I should get. The staff members provided useful info and congratulated to the one who received the flowers. They cheered me up and made my day. Thanks!

2020-12-06At one point this was the largest kosher grocery store in the country. Easily confused with the other Jewel Osco on Howard Street to the East.

2022-07-14This is in reference to the 24 hr Jewel in Lincolnwood:If your local Jewel has a weird smell, moldy produce, ice burnt sorbet, unevenly-baked muffins, mostly-empty shelves, surly staff, etc... (as many do), I recommend an excursion. This store has no time for mediocrity apparently, because I couldnt find one negative thing about it besides that its really big so you have to walk a little more. Every section is spectacularly maintained and stocked. Every. Section.I go to JewelOscos all over Chicago as a delivery driver, sometimes 6+ locations in a single day: this is THE BEST, THE CLEANEST, THE MOST WELL- STOCKED of any Jewel-Osco Ive visited! EVER!I was dazzled and forgot to take pictures but I will be back.

2022-07-02The manager Ken Kougar is amazing. He came out of the store to assist an elderly handicap woman who needed to use the restroom and could not get out of her automobile. Amazing man.

2022-06-17This supermarket is the best for me so far. You can buy everything you need here at just a very affordable price, The service staff are attentive even the security guards are nice and kind.
