Almost double the price of what I’m used to paying and I’ve lived in Los Angeles and New York... slim pickins if you’re passing through as a solo bird. You can get the bare necessities but most things cost $7+. Happy to see so much fresh produce at a corner store, so for that I tip my hat, but it would be great if you could cater to everyone in the community and offer some cheaper options, not just “rich person goes non-gmo” selection. ♡ Would also be nice if you stayed open until at least 9pm.PS: The German review from 2 years ago states, “Quite expensive but for that you get good quality...” ☻ German efficiency at its finest. Sums up my sentiments succinctly and precisely.
Store has gone downhill in recent months after new owners came on board. I have purchased a couple of items in last 2 weeks specifically that were molded within a day or so of bringing them home. There are many better small grocers in the area (Dill Pickle and Fresh Market on Western near Armitage to name two) that have super friendly and helpful owners that truly care about what customers want (and don’t act snarky when returning an item due to spoilage).
I come here for hard-to-find healthy foods. I stay for the excellent service.Last time I was here it was after a long day at work and I wanted to grab something easy for dinner and a bottle of wine. The checkout person saw I was getting a bottle of cold white and offered that the wines were buy one get one 1/2 off. She suggested an amazing sparkling rose. (Dont judge, I know rose season is over!). The best part was, as I was leaving the store, she sprinted out behind me to give a dog treat to a customers dog who was sitting outside.Come for:Local meats (usual stuff plus whole chickens, rotating sausages, different kinds of bacons and other unusual items)Local dairyGreat eggsGluten free/ organic shelf stable itemsGreat local baked goodsGood assortment of fresh, ready to eat lunch and dinner itemsFresh, often local, VERY seasonal vegetables
Although it is not the most accessible cost-wise, the free box in the rear of the store featuring past-its-prime-but-still-legit groceries, the samplings and the coupon-filled newsletter make up for it. The people are kind and knowledgable. You can even send them an email with a food-related question and they will respond to you right quick. I love this place and highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in eating locally and consciously.
I just called to ask about what brands of flour they have. The man I talked to was extremely rude, and when I asked for more details on what suppliers they had in stock (wanted Janie’s Mill, an Illinois company) he said “you can just go to Mariano’s or something” and hung up on me before I could reply. Perhaps they were busy or I misinterpreted his comments. I am bummed and was very excited to try out this place! Customer service 101: if you can’t answer someone’s questions, transfer them to someone who can or has the time.
We are constantly amazed that our very small neighborhood grocery store really has EVERYTHING we need! Love how thoughtful each and every product choice is and the staff is wonderful - always going above and beyond for us. Their beer and wine selection is fantastic and we love their Smoking Goose meat products from Indy, the ridiculous Paleo cookies that we can only find at GG, and their produce is basically a mini-version of the Green City Farmers Market!
This store recently shared how they wanted to be part of a conversation and process that pushes us forward in regards to alternative solutions to plastic use/sustainable practices. Both myself, and another (now former) customer commented on alternative solutions... respectfully, I might add. Their response? They deleted our comments and blocked us - we can no longer comment on their facebook feed nor leave a review for them. For a store thats named Green Grocer and claiming sustainable practices, they sure do like to shut people up that try to bring to their attention that their practices could be greener. Shame on your Green Grocer! I hope others start to call you out on your hypocrisy and treatment of customers that just are trying to bring things to your attention.

2022-02-11I just want to share my good experience on this store. It was my first time visiting the store and I really like specialty products and all and my good friend recommended this store. I was expecting like a wide grocery store but it is the opposite, this is a cute grocery store and it is just literally a small spot but it has a lot of wonderful products inside including the specialty products my friend is talking about and surprisingly, they have a small liquor selections and they even have organic wines and few liquors that is hard to find and some are those that cannot be found in any other grocery stores i know. This is a really nice store. It is also clean and well-organized and the staff inside is accommodating. The only thing is that the prices of their products are expensive, I noticed it on their prices but they do really have a wonderful selection of essentials and specialty products and the likes.

2021-12-14This small grocery store is nice and full of interesting stuff. The store is clean and bright and they have a friendly and helpful staff. It has a small space inside but everything is perfectly organized and fully stocked. They have a variety of local, gluten-free, organic and other specialty products. Some of the items they have can be found in other grocery stores but the prices in here is way better. Most of the products in here actually have fair and reasonable prices. If you are a fun of wines, then I highly recommend you this store because they have variety of good wines. Overall, this store is really great and of course, convenient.

2022-04-11I LOVE THIS PLACE! I shop here at least once a week. Almost entirely local, organic, & sustainable products. Awesome selection of beers, wines, and spirits that you dont really find anywhere else. Great selection of gluten free products, everyday staples, dairy, meat, and produce, great snacks and charcuterie all tended by a wonderfully helpful and friendly staff. The perfect place to hit before a party or a picnic or if you just wanna find some new yummies. I could go on and on. Definitely try the Jalepeno Cheeze dip. ITS AMAZING. A true Chicago gem.

2021-11-09Their development is practical, soon, staple items are pressed well. You can converse with the singular gathering your staple product in case there are substitutions that required for distant things. Generally speaking, I massively love shopping in their store since it was phenomenal and fulfilling.

2022-01-06We have a visitor later so I decided to cook food for dinner. I planned to cook carbonara, grilled fish and meat and vegetables salad. I bought some ingredients for carbonara. I chose 300 g spaghetti, 12 strips bacon, 15 g butter, 10 g garlic, 65 g button mushrooms, 35 g all-purpose flour, 68 g (1 pack) Knorr Cream of Mushroom, 30 g spinach leaves picked, 240 ml all purpose cream, Parmesan Cheese. Next I bought fish and meat. Fish was fresh from the aquarium. Next I bought the ingredients for the salad. I bought lettuce, English Cucumbers (grocery-packed), Cherry Tomatoes, Mayonnaise, Olive Oil, Apples (red/green)Croutons or Oishi’s Breadpan. I found and bought all of the ingredients that I needed. Thanks to this grocery store.

2021-08-05Great product selection and convenient and easy shopping here. High quality products. A bit expensive but worth it. I like how responsible theyve been throughout the covid-19 pandemic. They also have a very convenient Amazon locker!!!

2021-03-08I love shopping local, but damn is this place expensive and the selection is lacking. Not what I have expected.I received a response from the owner and while I respect your points regarding minimum wage and your space, I find your tactic of telling anyone who gives you a critical review to go shop at Whole Foods to be childish. There are plenty of other boutique local grocers on Ashland.

2020-08-21Local owned and operated, this is the best little neighborhood shop! I pop in for the basics and always walk out with a fun new item to try. Plenty of natural and organic options. The owner is so friendly and the staff is great. For a small store they always seem to have everything I need.
