An excellent tour for Architects and those interested in learning about history. This tour will guide about Frank Lloyd’s architecture style and it’s implementation. There are 2-3 tours happening simultaneously in the house. One star less because first you are encouraged to go and see the small details in the room and see the space. Later when if a room is small u r scolded for being in other room. If the tour timings are well managed and properly instructed where to visit and where not there will not be any confusion. Disappointed on the part of management but a must do for interested people.
Visited over Memorial Day weekend. Looked online for tours and saw plenty of openings so we didnt buy tickets in advance. Showed up and found all home/studio tours sold out. Only 15 per group so they fill up fast. Wish that had been mentioned online. So...we missed that tour. But...we did the walking tour of the neighborhood. And we actually had a great time. Seeing so many homes that he designed and their story was fascinating. And that tour is cheaper also. Couldnt see indoors since theyre private residences but it was a beautiful walk on a beautiful day and we enjoyed it immensely. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Loved this place. Our tour guide was amazing. She told us all the stories behind the house and the as architect. We are also so glad we started with the Wright house before visiting the others. It was a great tour, very informative to we later appreciated all the ground knowledge we got here, as we were touring the other houses in Chicago. We also recommend that you take the walking tour of the houses in the neighborhood where you listen to their history and artistic choices with a speaker device.
We were able to get a weekday reservation pretty easily. Weekend was pretty booked. Our tour guide was wonderful and informative. The house was restored to its original splendor after being turned into apartments...yikes! There are several other FLW designed homes on the same street...an easy walk from his corner home. There is a cute gift shop with lovely souvenirs.
My boyfriend and I bought tickets for the indoor tour today. We had an absolute blast! Not only was the house structurally outstanding, but also Frank (our tour guide) was incredibly knowledgeable and eager to share his wealth of understanding. This tour is certainly worth the investment, and I strongly recommend it (especially with Frank) for those interested in history, architecture, or a unique Chicagoan experience.
If you have any interest in Frank Lloyd Wright, this is a place for you. Youll find out much about his early history, his family, his home life and how he built his home while establishing many of the architectural aspects he would use throughout his life. The foundation has done its best to put the home back the way it look during the last year that he lived there. Tour his home and take the self-guided walking tour of the homes he designed around the neighborhood.
We took the one hour FLW home and studio tour and it was pretty good! Consider buying the annual membership if you plan on visiting all of Wright’s works in the area, especially with a plus one or family. The tour is thorough, and well organized for social distancing in these COVID-19 times. Great information. Very well maintained premises. Amicable staff and guide. Plenty street parking (on weekdays) available in the vicinity. Gift shop is fairly good too.
Absolutely fabulous tour of the house and studio. I learned so much not only about Frank Lloyd Wrights approach to architecture and style but also about his personal life. This is definitely a tour you should take if you have any interest in this mans work. So glad that I had the opportunity to take this tour.
Great tour and worth the trek out to Oak Park. My husband and I did the basic tour of the home and studio. Although we have toured several FLW homes previously, we really learned a lot during the 60 minute tour and had a unique experience seeing the studio where the magic happened in the early days. We didnt do any other guided tour of the area, but it was really fun to walk from the closest L station (Oak Park, green line) and look at the architecture in the surrounding area - lots of other FLW homes and unique homes, too!The gift shop here seemed to have a much larger selection than other FLW tours in the area (including Robie house), so if youd like a memento to take home, Id recommend buying one here. Also, I recommend buying tickets in advance online; dates and times go fast, especially during tourist season!
Good tour with a knowledgeable guide. Lots of great history and information on FLW. Some places are inaccessible. It’s not as amazing as many of his other houses and clearly a mish mash of evolving ideas. Be sure to check out the Robie house with the walking self guided tour. Overall, happy to have visited.
Very nice tour. An interesting look into the early life of an architect-genius. We had to wait about an hour for our tour, so we had time to walk around Oak Park and see several FLW homes. Our tour guide, Mary, did a nice job getting us through the home and studio. Highly recommend this if you have time.
This was my first tour of a Frank Lloyd Wright site. My visit exceeded my expectations! My group guide was so knowledgeable on Wright’s life and work experience...I learned so much. I was taken away with how beautiful this home was. I had seen pictures before going, but being inside his actual home is whole different experience. Pictures don’t do Wright’s architecture justice, go and walk through this home and studio! The staff/guides are so friendly, and they’re quick to answer any questions and give recommendations on what other Wright places to visit! For such a cheap price, this tour is definitely worth it. I hope to visit again with more friends! PS: going at Christmas time means getting to see the gorgeous tree in the play room.
We took the Green Line from downtown Chicago out to Oak Park. It could not have been easier. The walk from the station took about 15 minutes. Along the way you may observe other Frank Lloyd Wright designs. The museum tour commenced in the gift shop. The tour was informative but the guides did a good job of moving us along. The home and studio were part of the tour. Photos were allowed(+!). There are clean public restrooms, a gift shop and local advice about homes located nearby.
How can you not absorb and feel the architecture created here. This is the first house Frank built for his family and a connected studio for his architectural designing.A significant piece of architectural history and beginning of a visionary architecture design career that would change the course for interpreting building design aesthetics.A lovely place, a must visit.
The tour guide was very knowledgeable and took great care to make sure the group was enjoying themselves. It was really cool to see the different architecture styles of Mr. Wright within his own home and office. Highly recommend spending the money and time to check this out.
Book time online ahead of arriving. The tour includes some stairs, but not too much. Interesting tour guide gives a history and expansion changes in the house. Good summary and excellent renovation and updating to be close to house when Wright lived and worked there.Small gift shop has interesting mementos and pricing was reasonable. Access to two restrooms in the gift shop area.
What an experience! The tour guide was super informative and approachable. Talked about Wright’s influences, signature architectural touches, and life story behind the great 20th century architect. Highly recommend walking around the neighborhood as well. You’ll see lots of houses designed or redesigned by Wright. Definitely worth a visit if you know a little about architecture.
FANTASTIC tour of the studio and home! The guide was knowledgeable and very receptive to questions. Be sure to walk through the neighborhood and see the other homes he designed as well— several plaques help point out their history. The church he designed (Unity Temple) is also a short 10 minute walk away and WELL worth the visit!
This is my absolute favorite historic site and place for a day trip in general. We went during the little bit of snow over Christmas which was super pretty, and even though it was cold, walking through the area was a delight. The houses in the neighborhood are lovely, there are some pretty churches and the streets are tidy and photogenic. The house is stunning, its amazing to think how old it is, there are aspects of this house that you could still see being used today and its also amazing to look around and be about to see how much care FLW put into it.He is hands down my favorite architect and walking round the place he developed his style was hugely meaningful to me.The tour guide was thorough an clearly knew her stuff and enjoyed herself. I found her a little frustrating in places where she treated the group like children. However the guides are volunteers and they do good work in sharing information and protecting the house. The gift shop is not your standard gift shop either. The products are lovely and well thought out but expensive. I realised that one of the books I bought had a massive markup on it so watch out and unless its produced by the foundation, theres a chance you could pay less elsewhere. I dont exactly mind as Im happy to support their good work but it was a bit of a shock to realise just how much more Id paid.
Super great spot to explore prairie style architecture. Such a neat home. Lots of really cool details to see. Doesnt seem to be falling in a state of disrepair. Really huge ginkgo tree in the side yard. The whole neighborhood is really beautiful as well. Worth driving around a bit.
As a local house painter in Oak Park, the Frank Lloyd Wright tour gave us some fantastic insight into some of the historic homes weve painted in Oak Park and River Forest.Seriously, taking the tour and a stroll down the blocks of Victorian era historic homes in Oak Park have to be at the top of the to-do list if you are visiting Chicago.Even if youve lived in Chicago your whole life (like us) and havent taken the Frank Lloyd Wright tours, we highly recommend taking a weekend to do so.Certainly, weekdays are best in terms of avoiding the crowds and if you are able to get in and get out between 10am-2pm, youll avoid Chicagolands traffic (also historic in nature). All in all, a great bucket list item for any Chicago tourist, Chicago native, or home architecture aficionado!
Historically restored architectural gem located on the magnificent Oak Park neighborhood near Chicago. Different tour offerings of which we selected a 3 hour walking tour. 1 hour in the house, 1.5 in the neighborhood and .5 at the Unity Temple. Some of these were named Unesco World Heritage Site. Very knowledgeable Docent. Nice gift shop. A must see!
Tip: You can call and reserve your ticket times and then pay for them once you.Absolutely incredible home with equally incredible tour. The guides are extremely well versed in FLW and the history of the home and his life. Have done the tour twice and both were great. There is a $4 map that is worth purchasing to see the other FLW houses in the surrounding neighborhood.
One third of all of Frank Lloyd Wrights work was done here. Very interesting tour. Weve toured three Frank Lloyd Wright homes in the past eight months. Touring multiple places is like putting together a puzzle. You get more information at each place that helps you understand the man and his work as well as the time in which he lived and worked.
This place is amazing! The house and studio are so beatifully designed, genious ideas, harmounios with nature. Interior tour guide was helpful and volunteer very friendly, they also told interesting tricks of those designs and warm stories of Wrights family staying here. Also dont forgot to walk around and enjoy those astonishing colorful houses behind. What a great place to stay. Special recommend and we will definitely come to visit again maybe in summer. :)
This was a very interesting tour that a recommend for anyone interested in Frank Lloyd Wrights background of design. The tour was of his home and studio. The most interesting thing learned was that he built around a tree instead of cutting it down when wanting to add his studio to the house. The tree is still growing through the house to this day.
Really easy to get to from downtown on the Green line. Its a bit of a walk from the station, but worth it. The tour was incredibly informative, and gave a real insight into FLWs life. The house has some incredible features and quirks. They have a gift shop, but no cafe. There are restrooms in the shop. There are also a lot of stairs in the house tour that you cant avoid. Definitely worth the trip.
Parking was no problem, interesting tour, building was what I expected, gift shop is spacious enough that you can wait inside for your tour to begin (there is often a wait). It cracked me up that they ask people not to step on the fallen fruit from the gingko tree outside. Its inevitable!
The home is well worth a visit and I wont spoil it by going into any detail. Beyond that and something that should be treated as a part of the tour are the surroundings. The whole neighborhood epitomizes idealic suburban living. If Leave it to Beaver became a doctor or lawyer in his adult life he would likely live in a place like this. Take the day and walk to the little downtown area where youll find the church that FLW designed and the small eateries that look more expensive than they actually are.
This is a unique place to get a sense of Frank Lloyd Wrights history, but not necessarily be immersed in the planning principles that he used to craft dramatic and innovative buildings. While he did design the house himself, the house is not of his more famous prairie or usonian styles. The house is beautiful, and contains many examples of a Frank Lloyd Wright interior, but does not offer the immersive experience in coordinated design principles that some of the other historic properties do. For that reason, it has not been the highlight of my Frank Lloyd Wright experience. The house and studio are fundamental to understanding the man, and definitely worth a visit from enthusiasts.Rooms of note include the play room, which is amazing, the dining room, and the fireplace nook in the entry. Also extraordinary is the entire studio, which is a more immersive experience in his design principles.
My mom and I visited Oak Park this morning to get our Frank Lloyd Wright fill, and we loved our tour of the house and studio (be sure to book this in advance, either online or by phone, at least 2 hrs before tour start time). Afterwards, we used the audio guides offered in the museum shop to do the self-guided tour of the surroundings, and this was less informative. If you only have an hour or so, definitely go for the guided tour of the house + studio! Our guide, Royse, was incredibly well-versed on the history, architectural movements / technical details, and sprinkled in charming anecdotes and helpful ways of remembering key features and influences on Wrights style. I took many architecture history classes in college, and I was thoroughly impressed with Royse! He was extremely knowledgeable and passionate--the perfect mix in a tour guide. Besides the content, he also managed our large group exceptionally well, considering the limited time frame and varied desires of visitors (some wanted to linger in certain room, take photos, others had specific questions, etc), and he projected his voice very well so you could always hear his explanations clearly. Through his guidance, we appreciated details of the house and studio spaces and learned a lot about FLW. Thanks, Royse!
Wow. Just wow. The home is incredible to see on its own, but the tour guides add a layer of depth that youd never get on your own. This is definitely worth a trip, even if you live in the city. It took me 9 years before I came here, and of course it took family visiting to make it happen. Just go, dont wait for family to come and force you to play tour guide.
For Architecture students, professionals and admirers this place is worth visiting as well as the ample array of homes and buildings nearby in Oak Park near Chicago, IL. Allow plenty of wait time for paid daily scheduled tours and visit to the gift shop which at times can get crowded and rushed. Additional time needed to drive to all locations described in map for purchase at the gift shop. Nothing is free or gifted there as are all Frank Lloyd Wrights works throughout the USA.
THE place to know, first hand, FLWs contribution to Oak Park and to Chicago. Chuck, the tour guide, was excellent and had a great vibe and humor. The store has a wonderful selection of artifacts that reflects FLW. A MUST SEE PLACE!Dont forget to do the tour and walk around Oak Park to see FLW houses.
Really interesting Home and museum with very friendly and knowledgable staff and volunteers. We did he 3 hour tour that was very detailed and covered both the house, studio and wider neighbourhood. The only thing that could have improved the tour would be some context on what other architects of his period were doing so you know what was different about what he did. Found reading about his life interesting after the tour.
An amazingly designed home and studio by Mr. Wright. Truly an experience if youre interested in architecture and home design. However, the guide we had was very unknowledgeable regarding general facts about Mr. Wright and the home itself. The tour feels rushed as the guide spews poorly rehearsed information while trying to awkwardly inject comedy into the monologue then quickly rushes you to the next room where the monotonous speech is repeated. Youll learn some interesting facts from the rehearsed tour, but dont expect any additional information by asking questions.Overall the tour was pretty quick. It begins and ends with short stints outdoors otherwise the entire tour is inside the abode.
I went on a tour of this place as a young teenager but loved getting to come back and refresh my memory about what the home and studio look like. The 18 unique zoned air conditioning system is impressive and much appreciated on hot days like when my family went here. The gift shop is awesome and the whole property is meticulously maintained and restored. Definitely worth stopping at!!
Book tickets in advance to ensure a spot on their guided tour. My friend and I ubered out from downtown Chicago and $27 later we were unable to book a tour without missing out flight. That said, their gift shop is very good. However, they wont ship but direct you to order online. The grounds are lovely and well shaded. I will go again and be better prepared.
Buy your tickets in advance - the walking tours sell out quickly. Do the self walk audio tour first, take about 45 minutes and you see 10 houses and get a good understanding of FLW. Then go on the Home & Studio tour (2 hours). Its all great and so interesting. There are longer, more in depth tours available too.
Im not really a FLW fanatic, but the tour was very interesting and it was worth the train ride from the city. The tour offered a nice peek into the thought process of this world renown architect. Some of the designs are truly amazing. At the end of the tour another guest asked about Wrights private life and the tour guide briefly mentioned some of the details of his marriages and divorce which were also interesting. My wife is now reading a book by Nancy Horan based on Frank Lloyd Wrights life called Loving Frank. Also, before or after the tour, walk around the neighborhood and check out several other home Frank Lloyd Wright designed.
We took a wonderful tour, the Wright Around Oak Park tour, which included a detailed showing of Wrights house and studio (an hour or so), and then another hour-plus tour of houses in the neighborhood. It was a lot of architecture and history, but was well worth it for any Wright fans or people interested in American residential design. My only small compaint was the tour didnt sufficiently locate Wright in the overall picture of American architecture of the time. It is a must see, in my opinion. And so easy to get to from the Loop.
The house was incredible but the tour was very rushed. My wife and I are huge fans and have visited several of Frank Lloyd Wrights houses. Every one of them leaves you feeling creatively refreshed. We were frustrated with the tour in that we traveled all this way to see the house and when walking from room to room we were rushed on multiple occasions. When trying to take a photo of the one bathroom in the house the tour guide remarked what, youve never seen a bathroom before? Yes weve seen a bathroom, but Im curious as to how Frank Lloyd would have designed his own bathroom.Again, in walking through the main corridor of the home and admiring the stair case, the tour guide asked if we were lost or needed help finding our way to the next room. That was very disappointing. Otherwise, the house was incredible. So thoughtful in every detail. The use of natural light and the lines in the building are unreal. Left feeling very creatively refreshed (and a bit frustrated).
Amazing history lesson with the tour. Frank had no experience and was only a part time college student yet his boss have him 5k to build a house with only 2 conditions. It was great touring the house; huge house even by todays standards and seeing the designs and his intentions. Cant believe he continued to work to the ripe old age of 91!
We did the inside tour (reservations in advance) and was very pleased with the tour guide and her knowledge of the home, the neighborhood, the family, and the man himself. Gift shop was full of lovely, reasonably-priced items. I got a table runner which was one of Frank Lloyd Wrights window designs.
The guides are fantastic! Extremely knowledgeable and just a joy to be around. The tour was exciting and I was interested the entire time. I got to see everything and learned more than I did in my Architectural History class. The gift shop is fair priced. It’s a must see if you’re in the Chicago area and want to learn some architecture history or want to enjoy a cool house!
Love the delicate wooden structure. Its so warming and pleasant. Thanks to our tour guide. She is knowledgeable about the story of Frank Llyod Wright. BTW, they accept the ISIC, international student identity card, as a proof of reduced price. It is really friendly for a foreign student.
Great tour to directly learn about the Wright family (prior to his departure), his architectural style, preferences and influences for his home and studio. Our docent stayed within the history of his time living in this Oak Park landmark with little bits and pieces about the children and Catherine. We purchased our tickets in the lovely gift shop instead of online. It was a busy Sunday and a gorgeous autumn day, but we had no problems fitting into one of the groups with a wait of about 25 minutes, which allowed us plenty of time to browse. It is also worthwhile to walk around this area taking in all the amazing homes and places of worship. The architecture around the neighborhood is astounding!
This tour does justice to the talent of Frank Lloyd Wright. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and went at a very comfortable pace through the home and studio. The staff were extremely helpful and helped resolve a ticketing problem with a extremely helpful attitude.
A house and studio designed by one of the greatest and iconic American architects. The guided tour was very interesting and informative, and the tour guide was a delight to listen to. You will learn about the fascinating history behind the design/construction of the house, the period in which Wright and his family lived within its walls, and the meticulous process that went into restoring the building as close as possible to Wrights original vision. This location also has a great gift shop for all your Wright needs, and serves as a good starting point for walking/cycling to other Wright-designed buildings nearby.
We toured right after the museum reopened during the pandemic. Health standards meant far fewer people on each tour, which meant a less crowded, and more personal experience. The tour guide is so informed and conversational. It was a wonderful detour on our way back from Wyoming.
You have to tour this iconic home and museum when you are in the area. It is just the tip of the iceberg for local architecture. Ive been on the tour a few times. Its worth seeing it a few different times of year. At least summer and holiday time. Also love the bookstore/gift shop. A great place to buy gifts for local ir out of town friends.
We took the combo tour of the studio home and a self guided audio tour of the neighborhood. The tour guide was excellent. Extremely knowledgeable and had some funny facts about the family and the house. We learned a lot and enjoyed it immensely. The walking tour was great too even though we had terrible weather. Would definitely recommend it!
I really liked the home. The tour was very impressive as the guide was really knowledgeable. I knew a bit about Wright personally, but seeing his beginnings and the origin of so much of his genius was really fun. While the price may seem a little much, I believe that it is worth it.
Outstanding restoration. The home and studio of a renown architect and icon of design.Repeat Home and Studio visits are encouraged. Always, you’ll see more whilst gaining a deeper comprehension his developmental style. It’s truly a fabulous place. The tour Interpreters are extensively trained; their depth of knowledge immense.
A good way to start a day of exploring. The guide we had was friendly and knowledgeable. Exploring the restored home was educational. I am sure we missed out many of the details, but there is plenty to take in. Everyone from 11 to 45 enjoyed the house. I recommend buying the map and walking the neighborhood to see some of the other homes. Also, the Unity Temple is well worth the time and money.
The tour was fascinating. A glimpse in the life of a great architect. The gift shop is filled with great buys, from books to clothes to designed coasters and more. Its recommended to call ahead of the time for a guided tour because it might be fully booked if you just walk in.
If you are in Chicago, I would definitely recommend this tour. Especially if you are into architecture, interior, furniture design, planning. The thought put to designing the house from the entrance to the lighting is wonderful. Lot of mordern concept for design is used in this building, when it was built in the 80s. How the house is grown as the requirements were added and adapted with existing is amazing. The simple use of geometrical shapes is very prominent in the house right from the exterior of the house.
Great tour of his house and Studio. Guide very knowledgeable about the history of both the house and his career. We felt a bit rushed to finish in a timely manner ..about an hour considering we did not start on time. We had to skip one room. Although the outside did not fit the typical FLW style the interior was everything I expected his style to be. It was interesting to see some some houses he designed in his neighborhood.
Great home to visit to understand the early married years of FLWs life. This is unlike any other home he designed, yet you can still see him in it. Lots of great history and knowledgeable tour guides. On street free parking. Definitely see this house if you are in Oak Park.
Did the walking tour what a great way to find out the history of the area and the grand homes. If its your first time do both home and walking tour ,guided or audio you cant go wrong. Since cov19 dampen our vacation plans do stuff in your back yard bonus no long tsa lines or delay flights.
This is an awesome place if you like Frank Lloyd Wright. Or if you are a fan of architecture in general. The friendly docents gave lots of information on the home and Frank Lloyd Wrights background. Its very cool to see this living monument to the great architect. We did this as part of the Wright Plus Walking Tour.
I was able to visit the Home and Studio yesterday, and was able to get a tour. Our tour guide Bill did a fantastic job explaining the different elements of the space, while also adding history and stories about certain rooms as well. I would highly recommend taking a guided tour if the opportunity presents itself, especially if Bill is there to provide a tour. There was only one negative to the whole experience; the ticket price was a little high for the tour, at $17, and it was an additional $5 if you wanted to take pictures of the interior of the home and studio, which would have been nice if it was included in the tour price.Regardless of the cost, it was worth the experience, seeing the detail and first revelations of Frank Lloyd Wrights architectural beginnings.Be sure to walk down Chicago Ave to see several of his other works, as well as up Forest Ave; a great treasure of wonderful homes that Oak Park is blessed with.
Absolutely amazing! This home has been wonderfully cared for by the Frank Lloyd Wright Trust. The docents and volunteers are clearly passionate about the man and his home. It was a wonderful hour long tour, and did not disappoint. They also have a wonderful collection of inspired items in the gift shop. Make sure you take time to wander the neighborhood on your visit as well. His other homes are remarkable, as are the rest of the historic homes in Oak Park.
Wow! What an amazing piece of architectural history. Unfortunately, we could not get a tour. Be warned! The tours fill up fast and early. It is best to book in advance for a morning tour. It can be fairly crowded, so small children will need help seeing everything, but take them if you can!
Interesting house and very beautiful architecture. Unfortunately, the guide was easily rattled by simple questions and was visibly and rudely irritated when a member of the tour had to step to the side to answer an emergency call. He rudely asked her to leave the house rather than ask if everything was all right. He did not even explain how to rejoin the tour. Awful.
Great tour but be prepared to stand on hard floors for over an hour! Worth going! Be prepared to spend several hours total and walk neighborhood after....and if u come by El, stop at Hemmingways house on way back to train....great walk with lots of shops and places to eat and relax!
Ive been to the FLW Home and Studio and it never fails to leave me awestruck. The innovative and artistic approach to architecture puts Wright in a field of his own. The edifice is outstanding and the docents are all professional and knowledgeable. Dont miss this tour when youre visiting the Chicago area.
Worth the trip out to Oak Park. We booked our tickets in advance online for the Oak Park Combo tour. The home and studio are simply amazing and our guide did an amazing job telling the story of Wrights life and his work. FLW is an artist and an innovator and his home and studio are just beautiful spaces. After the guided tour of his home and studio we did the neighborhood audio tour. It was really cool to learn about some of his other works. If you do the combo tour, I recommend doing your guided home and studio tour first because if you are late they will start without you and you will miss some things.Do the neighborhood walking tour after seeing the home and studio.
What’s wonderful place to tour through, learning the history of the man and his family.Learning how they lived back then and how his family grew. Take the opportunity to see this magnificent home and original furniture. It is quite an experience. If this was helpful please, “like.”
The tour was very interesting and made me think more about how spaces and design affect my daily life. The tour guide was knowledgeable and answered many questions. I went on a ridiculously cold day, so I didnt get to see as much of the outside as I wanted, but it was still a great experience.
Really fantastic tour. Pretty hilarious with some of the details, like a piano whose rear is punched through a wall and protrudes in the headway of a rear staircase and is held up by a lead strap. Why? It was taking too much space up in the room which housed it. Even if youre not super into architecture or history the tour is fun. And the gift shop has stuff you will actually like.
I love this museum located on one of the most spectacular streets in Oak Park, IL. No matter what you think about the man, Frank Lloyd Wright the architect was a master at creating unusual, spectacular, unique living spaces that feel majestic and totally comfortable tat the same time. Once a year, the foundation also puts up a great house walk, where private residences designed by FLW and other influential architects are open to the public.
Very interesting tour, either if this is your first visit to a Frank Lloyd Wright home or not. The gift shop is very nice as well. Highly recommend the visit. The location is easy to access, and the neighbourhood is great as well for a walk around to see many homes designed by him as well.
This is a beautiful prairie home in which Mr. Wright himself lived for approximately 20 years. It was the first of his many prairie homes and is a testament to the importance of his work over the last century-plus years. There are too many things to note about the experience of walking through his first masterpiece...my suggestion is to let your mind take in the surroundings as you walk through and leave the questions behind. People on your tour will already have many questions of their own, allowing you to walk back in to time and enjoy his work.

2022-05-29Oh WOW - I knew I liked Frank Lloyd Wrights prairie-style modern architecture but being in his own home and seeing his studio is really incredible. I love how cozy everything is yet still filled with light. The hour-long tour is very friendly and interesting and its just incredible to see inside his house and his mind. You dont enter on the Chicago street side, where his studio is - enter through the gift shop to the left side. Tours start there and go through his house first, then out through the studio. Its not to be missed!

2022-05-31The trek out to Oak Park is a long one, but for the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio, it’s worth it! The volunteer tour guides are very friendly and knowledgeable. The tour is very interesting and shows you around the house and studio where Frank Lloyd Wright made a third of his buildings.

2022-04-15A worthwhile indoor tour to appreciate one of the most influential architects and understand his inspiration. We did the audio walking tour directly after doing the indoor home and studio tour and one flowed well into the other.

2021-09-18If your a fan of his work or want to know more, this is a great place to start. This was the beginning of the FLW home tour they put on this year. Im so glad i visited. Youre able to see his style progression in his early work here and the other houses in the neighborhood. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable and the tour flowed well through the house. Ill definitely come back.

2021-08-22We totally enjoyed this tour. The docent was excellent. Knowledgeable taking a generous amount of time for questions. It was nice that the building contained furnishings to clearly define the property. I would recommend this tour if you have an opportunity or desire to learn more or be introduced to Frank Lloyd Wright.

2021-11-09Such an awesome visit! Highly recommend for any architecture lover! I did the interior tour on a rainy day so we didnt spend much time talking the exterior, but great tour nonetheless. Suggest booking tickets ahead of time.

2021-12-05Really enjoyed the tour; it was neat to see a house that Frank Lloyd Wright used to explore some of his ideas. The tour was a good length and had good information; a good mix of architectural information and personal anecdotes about Frank Lloyd Wright himself. I was pleased that the tour stuck to its hour-length and never overwhelmed me with information. The grounds were my favorite part-the trees were spectacular. The gift shop was well-stocked and the staff were friendly.
