Today during my work lunch hour I took my dog to have her nails trimmed up. I waited 40 minutes before my dog got called back. Yes I had an appointment. The older women with grey hair and glasses was NOT a pleasure to work with. So upset because the first time we did this it was easy in and out and everyone was great! I don’t know if I will be back or not.
It took awhile to write this post, because we lost our friend “Gigi” and needed some time to grieve. This VET service is a GOD SEND! It was hard losing our cat to ESRD, but we were informed that it’s very common in felines and Formea & Staff helped up make an important decision for Gigi’s suffering. The doctor & staff gave us the most heavenly comfort and help for Gigi’s transition without anxiety or pain. 🙏 Also, they made our cremation reservations (Pets at Peace, Gent Funeral Home) as peaceful and professional as humanly possible and F/U with an sympathy card.THANK YOU Formea AH of Alton for all your kind thoughts, services & prayers and may all of our furry love one’s be given the same dignity as well.R.I.P Gigi Tillman 10/26/2021See you @ Rainbow 🌈 Bridge our friend.Mr. & Mrs TillmanBlackjack, MO
The staff was nice enough and good with my one dog but I did not like how my other dog was labeled. Both of my dogs are pit mixes and one came from a very abusive situation. That being said he has a tender spot on his spine that flares up at times and he can become very reactive over. While he would never bite anyone I decided to take precautions and put a muzzle on him so as to eliminate any risk of that happening. The staff jumped to conclusions asking me if he didnt like strangers. I explained that he loves everyone he meets. So they went to, Oh so he just doesnt like other animals? No, I explained he loves all people and animals alike. I just had the muzzle because of the spot on his back. When they examined him he stood perfectly still didnt try and fight them off or even snarl or growl. Yet when I took my other dog to get her shots I was told they were warned about my other dog. I didnt appreciate my dog being labeled. They spent all of maybe 5 mins in a room with him. I dont feel like you can assess a dogs character after only 5 mins. He doesnt have an aggressive bone in his body and I think they judged him for being a pit and having a muzzle on.
Really great office. Everyone was super nice and very caring. Dr Formea was absolutely great!! Down to earth and full of great info. Prices were very reasonable. They do things like normal, meaning they don’t wear masks. They let you know this when you call and you are welcome wear your mask.
Every time I take my dogs in, they come out feeling 10,000 times better. My dogs are treated like family there. They take time to investigate and listen when I say something is wrong. My little guy went in yesterday, didn’t want treats, didn’t want to go for a ride, and had a fever of 104. After spending the day with Dr. Formea and his staff (special shout out to Will!!), my guy felt so much better, and wants to eat today. Don’t know what I’d do without this place!
I just took my cat here today and I didnt see a single person without a mask on.... Weve been taking our pets here for years now and cannot say enough good things about everyone here. You know youve found the right place when you can tell that everyone is genuinely concerned for your fur babies.
This vets office came HIGHLY recommended by many many people on my hometown Facebook page. I was not disappointed! Fantastic little vets office with very competent staff. Fees for services are VERY reasonable, and range of services is broad and thorough. I would highly recommend this clinic for routine and more complicated cases.
This is my favorite vet for every day issues that come up for our fur babies - respiratory infections, worms, eye infections, shots, etc. They are very kind, and much more reasonably priced than most vets. I like that they generally start with less interventions & lower cost options. Most vets are not so considerate of the costs involved in care. I did end up taking my older cat elsewhere when he had several health problems stacking up, because I feel like another vet was more deeply diagnostic and not afraid to run all the tests we needed. Probably because they not so concerned w saving me money! But Formea has been great, and I really appreciate their services! They also helped me save a kitten I found and 3 years later he’s thriving!
Excellent Vet. Dr. Formea and Lauri saved my cat when other vets had misdiagnosed her. I would have lost her had it not been for Dr. Formea.

I taken 2/9 of my animals here so far and I have to say they are literally the best vets office Ive ever been to. In and out in less than 20 minutes. The doctor is really quick and sweet with my animals always makes them feel comfortable. I was just in yesterday with my baby boy socks got two shots and he was done with a little quick check to see if everything was good with him. I even got a coupon for $10 toward pet grooming! 😄 Will always take my animals here.
This was our first visit & we were very pleased. Even though they were busy, there was a large friendly staff that made us feel that our dogs were special. The doctor was personable & our dogs actually did wonderful with him during their exams & vaccinations. When I called to make the appt I was told what the cost of the visit would be & we were pleasantly surprised that it was. We will definitely make Formea the place to take our dogs for their healthcare.
Dr Formea and the staff is very dedicated and wonderful to have look after your furry pet. Our dog Otis had to get is kidneys flushed out which meant he needed to stay there 3 days. They were so kind and Dr Formea explained everything to us with such care and compassion. They are very-very reasonable on prices too. I highly recommend them for all your pet needs and care!
Dr.Formea is absolutely! The best veterinary ever! We love the staff & the Dr.’s there! They are very caring individual ‘s and treat you like family! I have sent many ppl to them with their fur babies. I trust them with all my babies!
My cat wasn’t able to pee, called Formea and they said be here in 20 min, we’ll squeeze her in! Quick service. Super friendly and helpful staff. Loved the doctor. Happy cat, happy owner!
Only come to Formea if you want to spend the first half of your day in the waiting room and the second half in the exam room waiting.Every single time I have come to Formea this is how the wait time is. They are kind to you animal but your appt time is just your arrival time and your appt actually begins 2 hours later.I actually walked out of my last appt because the wait time was so ridiculously long. I have tried to give them the benefit of the doubt because things happen but I will not be returning anymore. After 5 years of benefit of the doubt I’ve decided it’s just time to take my business elsewhere where time management and appts actually mean something along with the care for my dog.
Our grand dog stayed with us for a week during Christmas while her family vacationed in Florida. Libby became extremely sick December 30th. I called Dr. Formeas office in the morning. They scheduled a 1:30 appointment. Dr. Formea correctly diagnosed Libbys problem, gave her a shot and some pills. In short time, Libby was feeling much better. We are very thankful Dr. Formea would see a dog who was not a regular patient. He and his assistant were very careful and kind to our grand dog.Libby didnt need countless expensive tests and observation. She needed a practical, experienced vet who correctly addressed her problem and who prescribed the best cure. His cost was very fair, especially considering this was a new patient visit and that he gave Libby a shot and pills.Thank you, Dr. Formea, for seeing our grand dog and making her feel well so quickly! Yes, I will highly recommend your clinic to pet owners I meet. Libby and her family are very thankful for your consideration and talent. Bless you!
I cant speak well enough of this veterinarian. Their compassionate and knowledgeable staff put me at ease through every time I brought my dog in for care. It is a very personal atmosphere and they get to know you directly. I could see how deeply they care for their customers and patients when my dog had a particularly painful procedure done and they were quite visibly feeling it with me. I would put my full trust in their hands readily and recommend that anyone within range make a beeline for this veterinarian, you wont be disappointed. It helps, too, that their services are very affordable.
We absolutely love Dr. Formea and all his staff. Everyone there is so caring and helpful at all times. Dr. Formea is the best Veterinarian because he truly cares about our pets. We really appreciate that he always gives a conservative option for most every situation. We have taken our dogs to Dr. Formea for years and we will never go anywhere else. I am shocked that mask wearing is optional at Formea. I’ve had cancer and only one vaccine shot, so I’m high risk for Covid. My dog is frightened at the vet’s and I was told it would be a quick visit, so I decided to stay with her. I needed to ask the assistant who walked me to the care room to wear a mask, and she then put one on, but she had been walking around in this enclosed space maskless. I told her I was surprised she hadn’t been wearing a mask, and she said mask wearing was the choice of the workers at Formea. (The Illinois Veterinary Association says mask wearing should occur at Veterinary hospitals, so Formea is not following that guideline.) THEN, while I was taking care of expenses, a woman walked into the waiting room with her dog and without a mask, then said she’d left her mask in the car. “Oh, we don’t care!” said one of the clerks, not considering that I was also in the waiting room. “I care!” I said.Geez. One would think that a veterinary hospital would be follows scientific guidelines.Former is not.
Recently moved to Alton and my pup needed sutures removed, vaccinations and I had random questions. The staff was so friendly - providing me with names and phone numbers of places that held puppy classes. The doctor was friendly and knowledgeable and answered all my questions without hesitation.
Dr Formea was excellent with my very sick dog. Kept him overnight ,Fri, and I was able to bring him home with meds Saturday. Had Pancreatitis which I never heard of for dogs. Quincy is back to normal and the cost was reasonable. Im thankful for him and his staff for excellent care.
Love this animal hospital. I have been to a few and this has to be one of the best in town. All the staff seem to really care about every patient as if it was their own pet. Affordable in comparison to other pet hospitals we have used. I would recommend them to anyone that I know.
Formea staff are like family. They love on our dog as if he were their own. We are totally pleased with the care our dog Google has received since he was a puppy.

I have absolutely nothing bad to say about this place. I take my rabbit for grooming and they have always treated he and I both with so much respect and compassion. My grandma also takes her dog there now as well!
I started taking my pet (Jack) to Dr. Formea in 2012 after we adopted Jack from a shelter. I can tell you that Dr. Formea is among the best and I wont take Jack to any other Veterinarian. Being a Dentist I find myself much more critical of other healthcare professionals, and Dr. Formea is a 10/10 in my book!
Its the most reasonable priced vet in the area. They are so nice. I had to have them put my kitty down last week, and they sent me a sympathy card.
Dr. Formea is the best vet around. We moved about a half hour away and still take our pups there, wouldnt think of going anywhere else!

2022-07-07We have within the past 2 years switched to Formea Animal Hospital for our fur babies needs. We have been frequent flyers recently with our Yorkie. Dr. Maag has gone above and beyond to figure out the correct solution for our little guys skin issues. The girls up front are also amazing and never once seemed bothered when we have called more times then I would like to admit. I would definitely recommend this office to anyone looking for an exceptional Veterinarian!

2021-09-21This place and the people who work here, are absolutely the best! We brought our baby, Emmie, and she started out aggressive but they were understanding and patient with her. Then when it was our turn and our tough girl became the biggest baby u ever saw, they were great with her then too! Really appreciated the care we found here!

2022-03-21First visit here - our current vet would not see us for over a week :( We LOVED it! Very accommodating, caring, NOT RUSHED, and informative. The place looked and smelled great too! Wish we wouldve found them sooner. My pup and kitty will both be coming here from now on - thank you entire staff for all you do!

2022-05-17I actually really like most of the staff here and have enjoyed going here. I am actually writing about an experience a couple months ago where I had taken my cat in, who had taken a turn for the worse suddenly. Finances had been an issue for me so I had tried to use a Mastercard. It was a Carecredit Master card which was different than the traditional Carecredit card, that could only be used at certain facilities. It was a Mastercard, and was and is currently used like a traditional credit card. I even called Carecredit to be sure and also used it for several everyday purchase to be sure, and it can be used everywhere Mastercard is accepted. The receptionist at the desk did say that they do not take Carecredit but tried to explain that it was a Mastercard, not the traditional CareCredit card. She PRETENDED to run the credit card transaction and told me it did not go through. If they accepted Mastercard, I do not know, it was the lack of attempting for me. I work in customer service and deal with rudeness on a daily basis, but still, I work to make the customer happy. Even if I do not agree and frankly when working in customer service, where there are strained emotions, you appease the customer and try. It would have taken a minute to actually try. Embarrassed, I did scramble the money together. My cat passed a few days later.

2021-12-23I love bringing my cats and dogs here. Everyone is so kind, and you feel the love they have for our fur babies. Just had our Remi in today for her shots and a nail trim. Just amazing staff! Highly recommend Formea!

2022-01-26I had a very sick cat, Masha, had not eaten for 5 days, also limited water. I Called Formeas to request an appointment as soon as possible, I had not been there for about 8 years, for a dog and cat neutering. They were about to see us, in 3 hours. The veterinarian was Dr Boon (hope spelled correctly), and the Veterinary Specialist, I forgot the name, sorry. DR boon and the specialist, were very caring and compassionate. Dr Boon, did an Iv and vitamin shots, etc. also, blood test. It was found an infection caused the issue with not eating and throwing up. She prescribed, an antibiotic, also gave us food, and instructed me, how to feed her via a syringe. Masha is 11. Within a day, Masha slowly began eating, no vomiting.A week later, has ate like prior, active and no effects. She is healthy again, i thanks all of Formea Animal Hospital, for their kindness. especially thanks to Dr Boon, for saving Masha. I be bringing all 4 cats and 2 dogs to the hospital from this day forward for all care needs.
