The first resting place of Abraham Lincoln was in the temporary tomb down the hill from the final resting place and monument. Most people dont venture down this far but they should if they are interested in the history. Its as solemn a place as the actual tomb and is perhaps on a more human scale. If Honest Abe were alive today, I wonder which one he would choose.

Take a moment and go down the stairs behind the main tomb and look left. Its his 1st burial site.

Very beautiful monument and to also see the original resting place before the tomb was built. The cemetery itself is so full of history and so well taken cate of. It’s a must see!

President Lincoln was first buried behind the monument at this vault.
