Fairview Park in other cities:
This is my favorite park to visit in Decatur. Even though its usually crowded at all the pavilions on nice days, its still fairly easy to find a quiet nook to relax in. The trails are also plentiful with great views, lots of hills for a challenge and friendly passers-by. Id definitely recommend it!
Great park for general exercise a skate and dog park, a pool and walking /riding path. Lovely documented trees and it loops out to two different trails for a total round trip on a bike to around 16 miles if all paths are ridden all having their own hills and lovely views. The north path past the dog park at the bottom the hill is my favorite leg. Its quiet and fast with a few minor hills and two decently graded ascents. 4ish miles one way from the parking area adjacent the start. I ride it frequently and its always nice.
I think this park has seen its shares of ups and downs, but overall, its a great park, full of many great memories. From the old days of ice skating to the now regular band concerts in the park during the summer. The pavilion is super cool and definitely worth checking out, its a great piece of Decaturs history.
Im disabled and I like to try to walk for my health. I like to go to different parks to keep it interesting. I REALLY wish the park district would put more benches along the paths!!! Or I see stacks of picnic tables that could be used. Even my neighborhood park,Hess, could use some, please. I fear some day my legs will give out and I wont be able to get up. I dont think its an outrageous request, and Im certain Im not the only one who is feeling this way. Also, its really bad to see kids using the bathroom beside trees because bathrooms are locked except for ballgames!!! I too have to leave if I need to go,but kids cant hold it to walk home. Public parks are FOR THE PUBLIC to enjoy.(the same goes for the water features that you have toschedule an event to get them turned on and its 90-100* outside.) These are shameful things. A black mark on our city!!!Also, there is a huge training facility built for police,That is where the K-9 dogs should meet to train,Not Hess park in the enclosed ballfields. Its a very fearful thing to have to try to get to your car with your dog and have to cross area between dogs like that. And kids are nearby! Lord dont ever let something go wrong!!!
During the summer, the park has bike rentals. DO NOT GIVE THESE SCUMBAGS YOUR MONEY!!! The couple running this business are only here to make money and don’t care about their customers. We had a group of four people, but the bikes we wanted were taken, so we settled for a different bike. We were told that the bike we wanted would be reserved for us (we’d take a second session after the first session, we were paying for two sessions) and I gave my information. However, the owners handed out the bikes to two other groups who arrived after us, even though they said it was reserved for us. The owner clearly does not care about anything but money and also gave a big “f*** you” to us on the way out. 0/10 would give money to these scumbags again.
Lots of area to look at. Duck pond to see the ducks or for kids to fish. Play place for kids. Paved trail to walk, run, bike. Basketball hoops. Soccer field. Public pool. Dog park. Many pavilions to have picnics or rent one for a party!! Or just let the kids run wild.
I have visited Fairview Park since I was a child. They have extensive hiking areas, there are several Pavilions in which you may hold picnics or family reunions grilling areas, lots of playground equipment for children. A duck pond where I believe fishing is allowed. Lots of geocaches. And most importantly Fairview Park swimming pool which was my babysitter most of my preteen years!
This is a very peaceful place of beauty to b cherished. Tha grounds r well kept an clean , options available to grill out/family picnics or reunions n nice pavilions , fish with yer children , , nice playgrounds for tha children , a dog park is available at cost , I thot it was a lil too expensive to use , but its there . Bike/walking trails r awesome , leading out to Rocks Springs Conservation that offers a peaceful place for tha soul to escape tha noise of decatur for awhile with lots of options also , hiking/walking trails for tha beginner kid friendly to tha more advanced hikers . Rocks Springs Conservation offers so many activities for children I encourage u to check it out , I absolutely adore Rocks Springs, I encourage those who love and more importantly appreciate nature to check out this place 🍃. Fairview park and Rocks Springs r family oriented /dog friendly and offer so much to do , check it out for a day of peaceful rest and play !!!!
Fairview Park has everything you need in a park! Skate park, pool, tennis courts, duck pond, trails, picnic and playground. They even have a dog park. The only issue I have is you have to be 16 or younger to fish the pond. I think it is because there were so many adults fishing and keeping everything they caught so the park district has to stock it more often. That doesnt keep me away though, there are plenty of other places to fish around Decatur.

2022-05-08There are few things more revitalizing than time spent out-of-doors and to see so many other people doing the same just seemed to put me in a good mood. There were kids in the skate park, dogs (and owners) in the dog park, people gathered around picnic shelters, a party being set up under the pavilion (it always impresses me to see the size of that thing!), a young family checking out the ducks around Dreamland Pond, and numerous people of all ages just seemingly enjoying a walk thru the park. Best of all, despite all of this activity, this park is spacious enough that at no time did it feel even remotely crowded! This park has got to be an absolutely amazing asset in this community!

2022-06-18Lovely park. Lots of hiking, biking and more can be done here. Beautiful pond in the middle of this park. Lots of Pavilions to use.Use to have a public pool but with the new water park in town the park district decided to close and tare down this pool which is a shame. It may of needed some work but I felt this pool would have been used and used a lot.

2022-07-01This park is a hidden gem in Decatur. I live a short distance away so it is in my walking path almost daily. I dont think I have ever seen the park empty or in unkept condition. It has activities for everyone. The entire park is always mowed and well trimmed. There is a bike/walking trail that goes all the way to the Rock Springs nature center. There are several pavilions that are often used for group gatherings and music concerts. It also has a dog park, skate park, duck island, and several playgrounds for the kids. It also has public restrooms next to the main pavilion that isnt an outhouse. If you play tennis, there are quite a few well-kept courts. After several years of Covid interruptions, I am planning to have a family gathering in the park.
