Elgin Community College is one of the best colleges Ive been to. They have excellent professors, great activities and entertainment, and great food! The library is over the top amazing. There are many tables and chairs to have a place to study. The study rooms around campus are AWESOME ! Theres a fresh salad bar and its affordable! Its a beautiful campus. Dr. Sam, the president, is very friendly and involved. The teachers there want to see you succeed! I miss going there. I cant wait to go back to continue my education!!!
Terrible experience. Students are not valued. Police kidnap you and take you in to a locked room with out reading you your rights and refusing to release you until you sign documents incriminating yourself. Had my own car door slammed on my leg by a pos officer too. School to prison pipeline.
Some professors are great, others are past their prime. The advisors are a joke. Coming in as a transfer student, I knew more than most. The advisors are useless and will try to convince you to take classes YOU DO NOT NEED. My advice, follow the progress bar online and finish that way. Also, if you are transferring, that university advisor should give you classes that will be worth merit at that institution. Its a decent stepping stone in higher education, but the administration sucks.
Testing services are awful, not nearly enough people working in there to get everyone in there. Waited outside in the hall for over an hour. Admissions, counseling and testing services need to be on the same page. I was told 3 times I didn’t need to take a writing placement test then I call to get my new student orientation day and they tell me I need to take it now. Why was this not told to me earlier?
If ur a disabled vet, like I am at 60%, make sure u have ALL paper work on Dept of VA letterhead or ur special needs like taking tests and the like will not be taken care of. Otherwise ECC Staff is friendly and understanding to ur physical needs.Disability Services - FAIRECC Staff - VERY GOOD (in comparison to Academic professors/instructors @Harper 3/5 had there head up there as & need their ego stroked @Harper)Overall - GOOD

2021-09-02Campus is always clean and the staff is very helpful. I’m very grateful to be a student at such a good school. The rate my professor reviews tend to be very accurate for the professors but I’ve had an overall excellent experience.

2022-03-31Its ok. The education is good and cheap, but some of the professors are embarrassingly liberal. But then again, its probably the same way at all colleges.

2021-06-11I didn’t know I Loved ECC, until I moved and I was out of district so I had to go to MCC. I Hate MCC everything and everyone is shut off by 4pm and there’s no almost no teachers willing to teach past 4 (There are but only some). This is impossible to manage. I’m getting a job near ECC so I can go back. I MISS YOU. Not only does ecc have a ton a teachers, but they offer a variety of times for classes especially in the afternoon. There teachers are wonderful and dedicated (not all of course but most) and there facility offers so many different activities and clubs you can go crazy in there. I won’t cheat on you MCC but I will inform you when I leave you and that it’s not working out.

2016-12-16I will start with the good. The instructors are amazing. Most of them that I have had are very intelligent and filled with the necessary knowledge to teach you. Now the bad. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE COUNSELORS!!!! Figure out what classes you need to take on your own. I spent 3.5 years there with a combination of full and part time and have no degree and no requirements for any programs that I told them I was most interested in. When I was a vulnerable 17 year old first generation college student there completely on my own they told me I needed to take reading for Nursing. For one, looking back, I placed out of reading. For two, I have yet to come across a nursing program that requires reading. It seems that they always gave me the run around and had me taking all of the classes that I did not need, and none of the classes that I did need. If you can figure out what classes you need to take on your own, then The school if great, and the education that you receive is great. If you have nobody to help you or guide you in your life and are solely dependent on the counselors advise, find an alternative.

2018-05-30Professors and library staff are great. Testing placement staff, and book store staff are awful. Today I called because I have to retake a math placement test, and asked if I could take it online instead of having to come in, since I work full-time and have a busy schedule. The lady assisting me laughed for about a good 2 minutes and replied, “you have to come in nice try though”. Not very good service for someone who was genuinely asking, could have just replied with a simple no! These department staff are so rude and seem annoyed when you ask them questions, I’ve never had a good experience with either, and dread having to deal with them.

2019-05-19I have been going part time for 3 years and I love this school. I went to College of Dupage for a few years before Elgin college and my experience here has been way better. The staff are all nice and helpful and you get that home feeling at this College.
