This is a great bridge going across the river we stayed at the river hotel we have to take the spread to get to cross the river. It is out of the water it’s really old and cool. Make sure if you’re in the Chicago downtown area to check out this awesomely incredible bridge. Especially at night.
One of the best spots at Mag Mile to view the Skyline. Also, It is surprising how too few people know that there an Whole Museum inside one of the 4 Bridghouses of this iconic Bridge. (Southwest Bridgehouse - the one near LondonHouse) .The BridgeHouse Museum is a definite must-visit for its immersive description of the history of Chicago river and the bridge . Also the view from the top of the BridgeHouse is amazing.
Beautiful views. We went to the downstairs portions to get a photo of where the untouchables was filmed. Such a great movie. The way down was interesting. Being from out of state, the Chicago underground seemed like a world new world. I called it the Chicago underworld. A little bit of courage to walk down. Kinda trashy as well.
This is a bridge located in the heart of downtown. It has a history ofcourse but for us it means:-Getting an ice cream from Ghirardelli and devour it with the view of the city.-Gazing at the Chicago skyline at night-Watching the boats, kayak groups, water taxis, yachts and waving at them.-Assisting people who like to take a memorable photo 😊-Make a secret wish 😜
Michigan Avenue Bridge (officially DuSable Bridge) is a double-leaf, double-deck, fixed counterweight, trunnion bascule bridge that carries Michigan Avenue across the main stem of the Chicago River in downtown Chicago. At the time of construction it was believed to be the first double-deck bridge ever built to have roadway on both levels; faster non-commercial traffic using the upper deck and slower commercial traffic that served the various industries and docks in the vicinity of the river using the lower deck.(Sourced from Google)
The area is great for walking and enjoying the view of the skyscrapers touching the sky. I visited chicago on October the weather wasnt warm but it wasnt that cold either. I would recommend walking the full length of the river walk because the views will keep getting better
This is an average bridge surrounded by amazing architecture. Its a bridge that you must cross to get to the Magnificent Mile and other famous Chicago landmarks. It shakes a lot when walking because theres lots of cars going over it. It has a nice walkway and its in a very safe area.
One more beautiful and historic point in the downtown, at Pioneer City house. Watching the skyscrapers touching the sky and sailing cruise boats below.... alongwith the crowd from all parts of the world is a memorable one.... on the memorial bridge of one of the city founders.Chicago touching all hearts.
Michigan Avenue has always been one of my favorite walks in Chicago. But something special happens when you cross this bridge - at least for me. You get to look east and west and see (and feel) the beauty and energy along the Chicago River. You also see the amazing architecture right there - Wrigley Building, Tribune Tower and Trump Tower a short distance away. You begin to realize why this is called the Magnificent Mile, because it is!! This bridge was a significant piece of the vision for Michigan Avenue.
One of the loveliest and most busy places in the city! Excellent for shopping and enjoying the fascinating building architecture. Load and full with people, sleeps late and tourists all over the streets. grabbing french fries and some ketchup and walking around while enjoying the beautiful city center is recommended
DuSable Bridge is fantastic if you find yourself standing on one side of the river, longing to be on the other side of the river. As far as quality, the bridge appears to be structurally sound, Ive never seen it collapse. Im not an engineer but I imagine this bridge could hold a dozen or even two dozen people without falling down into the river. Five stars.
It is an iconic bridge in Chicago, a MUST VISIT, the surroundings are very beautiful and impressive. There are many options and things to do nearby, for example: I recommend hoping on a boat beneath Trump Tower (right next to the bridge) for an architectural-historical tour on the river.
Great location downtown. Right opposite house of blues. Rooms are large and comfy. Bathrooms are spacious and clean. The bathtubs are slippery, hence they provide a new slip mat- so make sure to use it! No problems with wifi. The gym was quite well equip whereas the concierge lounge could do with more variety of snacks and drinks..
The DuSable bridge worked great. We were able to walk across the river without getting wet. 5 stars for a great bridge experience. But seriously, if you look at the sidewalk on the south side of the bridge, you can see embedded markers that show the outline of where Fort Dearborn stood (apparently in the middle of Michigan and Wacker). There are also plaques to commemorate the Chicago fire, the journey to the Mississippi and other historical events so there is a bit of interesting history you can learn here as well as great scenery.
DuSable bridge was cool. I happen to like all of the bridges in Chicago. Its a lot of fun to see them by crossing them/walking on them, but even better from on a boat tour. These bridges along the river, the main river, also raise and close. Thats also a lot of fun to see when tall sailboats pass through and the bridges rise and then descend. For any additional questions or for travel needs (Im not a travel agent. Had to check out the green Chicago River on St. Patricks weekend! What can I say about the bridge? Well its sturdy, spacious, and most importantly picturesque. A must visit location to really experience downtown Chicago. A lot of friendly people who come to take pictures at this bridge is a common sight. Please try not to jump off of DuSable Bridge, or really any bridge for that matter because that would ruin the ambience and reputation of this beautiful old Chicagoan sight
I love walking around Chicago. I can’t say any bridge is better than the other as I am typically just looking for a way to get from one point to another. That said, I have and did take close up pictures of the rows of rivets with some flaking paint and water drops appearing along the girder. Sometimes you just have to stop and look at things from a different angle.
I go to Chicago 1x per yr for my Pokemon Go Fest convention in downtown and stay at the hotel The Fairmount. This bridge is very interesting to look at and is a huge feature of downtown traffic. There are pedestrian walkways downtown. Lots of road construction near it though. Free.
This bridge has a great view of Trump Tower and of the river boat out to Lake Michigan as well as to the inner city. The Wrigley building and great restaurants are close by well worth your time in the trip picture to go down below. Along the River and visit theyre also
DuSable Bridge is a historic iron bridge that provides for entry to the famous Magnificent Mile. The namesake of the bridge is in remembrance of one of the founders of Chicago. I advise walking across as there are amazing views of many famous structures along the Chicago River.
The bridge is one of the most famous landmarks in Chicago. There’s lots of brilliant back drops for photos on the bridge. The trump building one way and Lake Michigan the opposite. Along with the Wrigley and tribune buildings. Its at the end of the magnificent mile too. Everytime we visit here we Really enjoy this area of Chicago. It is beutiful and noisy in summer and taking photographs will be hard as there will be lots of passerby.
The bridge was officially named the DuSable Bridge in 2010. It is considered the gateway to Chicago. The bridge is the symbol of the Magnificent Mile. The DuSable Bridge is all at once a beautiful work of public art and a great feat of civil engineering. Like most bridges over the Chicago River, the DuSable Bridge is movable, which allows boats to pass underneath. Its double deck allows two levels of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
The bridge system in general in Chicago is amazing, but this one is extra interesting. The bridge house contains the McCormick Bridgehouse and River Museum. In there, you can check out the inner workings under the bridge and get a general history of the river. Entrance is $5 normally and is free on Sunday, I would absolutely stop by for a look.
DuSable bridge is Michigan Ave crossing the Chicago River. the RiverWalk on the south bank is fantastic. The spots between each bridge are created to have different effects...bars, restaurant nook, amphitheater, garden, etc. There are many boat tours that leave just east of here...I highly recommend the architectural tour!
The DuSable Bridge, previously called the Michigan Avenue bridge, is one of the best photo spots in Chicago. It is one of the only bridges in the world with four bridge tender houses. It is actually two separate bridges that move together. There is even a museum in this bridge, the McCormick Bridgehouse Museum.Take photos of the Chicago River, Wrigley Building, Trump Tower, and Tribune Tower surrounding you. Your are at the starting point for Chicagos famous Magnificent Mile, so take in a little shipping. One of the coolest places to see in Chicago and it is totally free.
Chicago needs to really enforce to all the stupid tourists not to stop and take pictures here for long periods of time... nobody outside of the locals have any disregard for their surroundings and in the 4 years of living in the city, this bridge is one of the few things that i try to avoid at all costs next to navy pier.
What an experience watching the dying of the river on St Patricks Day. This happens at 9 a.m. on the day of the parade. The parade starts at noon. We were able to walk down to the 2nd level of the bridge since the ground level was too busy to get a view. Remember their is no uber, Lyft or any hail service on this day for the streets that go from the bridge to the parade. Its only 4 blocks straight up & down Michigan. Also their are no restrooms available in the businesses even if you make a purchase. So downstairs in the Millennium train station is your best option.
I’ve been in Chicago for a year in a week... it is my home. I love it.I wrote this weeks into my life in Chicago because I ”knew” this city from years of business or visiting, “I know Chicago. Just walk...You get down to State and it’ll be like 10.”I’m such a nobody but listen to my historical tone ...but still honest and genuine. The DuSable Bridge (proper) is one of my personal, special places to go -I can walk from my place in 4-6 mins and I learned bridge+waterway make good neighbors. The structure, -surrounded by Chicago at every turn and the Chicago River is always impressive in both appearance and behavior. Crossing pedestrian/Riverwalk visitors/tourists cant miss my favorite aspect, the incredibly important series of flags. Chicago is Chicago: A Powerful American City is conveyed via these symbols and the uniqueness of the cityscape everywhere from your DuSable Bridge vantage.A visually impressive waterway meandering through the architecture of past authority while encompassed by architecture of todays American economy too. Like I said, the perspective of this position is uniquely powerful and encompassing.A side note regarding the DuSable Bridges day and night. Of course, visitors will need to walk the span with plenty of sun to appreciate the vantage. But I recently understood that 2:00-4:00am provides me with ownership of the whole thing. Personally pre-dawn DuSable is my go-to place for thinking, not thinking, etc (since I moved adjacent to river). Cant sleep? In 5 mins Im enjoying the bridge, the river, etc ---seldom a personal in-sight. I love it ...and Im not typically into peaceful spots or whatever. Apologies, I digress.Explore the historic and visually unrivaled DuSable Bridge via Chicagos Riverwalk.
Although the view is so beautiful, there are a lot of homeless living under the bridge, i feel sorry for these people, there was a homeless in every corner this last weekend it wasnt that bad years ago, the city most help them and relocate them too because this is a turistic area, we have to do something to help them, many of them are veterans it is sad The conditions they are living right now when they gave us freedom, the city better redirect funds to help our vets and homeless, this is wrong, so many programs helping others that dont really need it, and they are in extreme cold weather living under one of the most beautiful bridges.
I was HORRIFIED at the prospect of crossing the Chicago River in this spot! Has anyone played Oregon Trail? I thought wed have to ford the river after weeks of grueling pace, wed lose our oxen and so forth, but heres this bridge! I said woah! or something similar, when I saw it. My friends find it hard to invite me for visits due to heated logistical misunderstandings of this kind.
One of the historic Chicago attractions: located on Michigan Avenue south of the beautiful Wrigley Plaza with the wedding cake Wrigley building and the stunning, formidable-looking Tribune Tower. This is one of Chicagos many bascule bridges crossing the Chicago River. On the bridge houses are reliefs of Fort Dearborn, the frontier settlement that would eventually turn into lovely Chicago.
Great history - the Dusable Bridge is a iconic bridge of Chicago. It represents Chicago with its historical, architectural buildings around. After visiting The Bean we started on a long walk from the Magnificient Mile and finished our walk stopping at the Dusable Bridge. We went down to check the McCormick Bridgehouse and River Museum. Even a lay person can understand the amazing bridge system explained clearly with pics and notes and the bridge keepers explain very patiently. There was also a documentary shown on the computer at the entry once you go down. As it was Sunday entrance was free. Other days it is 5$. There was also restrooms. So good to relieve after a long walk :)

2022-03-15This bridge had one of the best views especially on St Patrick’s Day 2022 with the imposing Trump Tower on the right and a wide view of the river walk. Naturally it also has the maximum crowd but it is definitely worth the quick walk.

2022-05-05Super pretty spot for pictures, for both day and night. I think this spot really lived up what Chicago represents, the amazing architecture, busy street, and the Chicago river. Pictures I took are definitely one of the most beautiful ones in my album and would definitely visit again in summer when the weather wasn’t too much of a pain.

2022-05-22The Michigan Av Bridge is also called DuSable bridge in honor of Jean Baptiste du Sable, where his first homestead used to be and who is considered the Chicago founder and its first resident. On the bridge southern side, the 19th century Fort Dearborn was established. The bridge was opened to public in 1920.Around the bridge are some of the city most historic landmarks - the Tribune and Wrigley towers, and from the newer era the Trump tower.DuSable bridge offers terrific city views standing in the middle of Magnificent Mile.

2022-02-10My Wife and I visited the DuSable Bridge on January 23, 2022. This bridge is the bridge the Michigan Ave crosses the Chicago River at. It carries a lot of history and symbolism, since the guy it is named after, Jean Baptiste Point du Sable, is the guy who founded Chicago, and it sits in an area that has awesome riverfront views of a good bit of the prominent architecture in Chicago. We surely enjoyed it.

2021-08-03Beautiful sights & scenery. Wonderful vibe. Great place to take pictures. From out of town & was walking to the cloud gate in millennium park when I stumbled upon this wonderful sight. Was not expecting seeing this during the visit but im glad we did! Very nice riverview and I love artwork so that was definitely a fresh thing to see.

2021-11-03If you are in the area, DuSable Bridge is a great place to snap some photos and appreciate the beauty of the surrounding city. Take in the juxtaposition of nature, concrete, glass and steel. I got some nice pictures during my stay.
