I honestly didnt have a good experience. The employees looked like they dont want to be there, the cashier was rude, no hello, no thank you , no gooddbye. Id understand if they were busy, but I was the only one in line.My drink was NOT good at all.I wanted to support a local business, but unfortunatelly I dont know if Ill return.
I crave their biscuit breakfast sandwiches and their sweet and savory pies (especially the chicken pot pie) are above average with their baked goods and pastries leaving room for improvement - specifically the danishes that are more cake/bread consistently than a pastry and scones that are always bone dry with little flavor. The staff is generally lovely but somehow their espresso team is wholly incapable of making a decent Americano. I’ve tried numerous methods of instruction. I simply want a strong espresso forward beverage with limited water. I’ve tried asking them to only fill it 2/3 full or half espresso and half water. Nothing. It’s like I shouldn’t my bother with my requests or perhaps my wishes are just not communicated due to a technical glitch that doesn’t carry over the order details or the staff turnover on the espresso machine is just too high and it’s hard to get good help these days.Recently, I brought back in my watered down americano expressing my frustration that the order was not made remotely close. No apology or acknowledgment of the issue and I asked if they could perhaps offer me a double shot of espresso to add to the beverage for which they charged me. Yay. It actually did the trick though!I think if this location wants to retain a loyal customer base in a crowded market, they might invest in some serious coffee/espresso education and revisit the recipes of the pastries and baked goods.Very happy to edit this review if the next time I return for a biscuit sandwich there is a decent americano served.
My friend was discriminated against while at this coffee by two white Cis-women this morning. The two women stole my friend’s table (while my friend got up to get another piece of pie), gaslit her by saying it was their table (although my friend’s coat and knitting stuff was at the table) and when my friend told management, management suggested that my friend find another table. Not going to a place that POC are discriminated against by customers and management. Zero stars!
A little pricey at first glance but totally worth for the quality and amazing flavors. The menu varies daily so check their website for the most accurate flavor listings. Love that they have savory options like hand pies, salads and sandwiches as well.Highly recommend the pie flights as you can try 3 half slices for a great price.A popular spot for students in the area and it is VERY busy on the weekend during brunch hours. There is some seating outside during spring and summer as well. Lots of cheap street parking and close to both CTA and Metra. They also offer pre-ordering for parties and events for pickup in store.
Pie PIE pie. Welcoming space, great coffee. A good place to work or meet for a chat. Try a savory slice or handpie. They offer a flight: three half slices after 6 p.m. Yes, please. Stroller-friendly space between tables of adequate size ( placemat-size tables here). Easy to find a short walk from Purple Line or steps from Madison stop on 213.UPDATE: Today Im sipping dark roast (they are out of decaff beans) with my savory lamb handpie. The pie does not disappoint. In fact, its one of the best things Ive eaten recently.UPDATE: Tonight I had the ckicken pot pie with salad dinner. Thick slice of pie chock full of veggies and chicken in a flavorful gravy with the tastiest, flakiest crust ever. Salad was uninspired, bland. (But I ate my veggies, ma.)
One of my favorite study spots with excellent dessert options. Highly recommend the pie flight - three half slices of rotating daily pies available after 6 pm for only $8. Today I tried out the chocolate cream, sour cream rhubarb, and bourban pecan. All were phenomenal, though I think the rhubarb was my favorite - very creamy and tart with a nice crumble.
My aunt told me to try this place out because she loved the pies here. I got the apple pie. Not only was the apple pie amazing, but the coffee was great here too. The decor and atmosphere here was amazing. We got the special, seasonal latte. It tasted fresh and nice. Delicious, cute place to try out.
My girlfriend and I decided to stop here with a couple of family members for coffee and a slice of pie. They did a great job making the top of our coffee look fantastic. So we sat down and had our cold beautifully decorated coffee. The pies we ordered were great. We decided to take our conversation out to the patio area as they wanted to close, family members catching up on so much. They actually came outside and asked us to leave the courtyard, yet said nothing to the two women standing five feet away. I am truly bothered by these actions that really have no merit. To be honest we will most likely never stop here again. We are all small business owners and are sadly surprised by these actions.
I have been trying to make it here for years, & I am happy I finally made it last night. I am not sure who the girl is that checked me out, but she was very sweet. I had ordered 2 slices of pie to go, & I was pleasantly surprised to open up my bag & see she had given me a free slice 😄 The pie was absolutely amazing!! Highly recommended!!
My favorite pie in all of Chicagoland is the passionfruit meringue!!!! The biscuits are also glorious. Ive enjoyed all Hoosier Mama locations but the vibe inside this shop is my fav. During one of our many visits to this shop we were lucky enough to have a chat at the counter with the friendly owners. So pleasant!
I have tried several pastries here. I always order the honey cinnamon latte, it is sweet but I feel better having honey than any kind of sugar. I recently tried a buttermilk biscuit with strawberry jam and it is delicious. The biscuit is soft, well layered and, the crust is perfect.
Ordered an iced Chai latte a few times this week thinking it was cheaper than my local Starbux, coz the menu shows a cheaper price. But I was charged $5 instead of $4.10 every time, and didnt realize it until today (tax and tip excluded). I tried ordering a large and was charged $5.50.Not updating menu prices is extremely misleading. I pay with my mobile wallet and not always check my bill because I trust menu prices. Pretty disappointing
Terrible customer service! I came in on my birthday to get a cup of coffee with my dog and stood in line for 20 mins. No one said anything while I waited and my dog and I were minding our own business. Near the counter the barista asked us to leave as “no dogs were allowed” and refused service. It is a horrible place and I will never visit again! Not worth a single star!!!
The pie was fantastic, but the hand pies were given to us cold after we asked for them to be warmed. It was a long wait considering there was only 1 person in front of us, but to re-iterate, the pie (A pecan chocolate chip) was FANTASTIC! We will definitely be back again to try the hand pies warm next time we are in the area.
The biscuits are insanely good here! Try them in the biscuit sandwhiches which are such a steal. The pork apple sage pie is one of the best savoury pies out there for sure. The chocolate cream pie is the grown up version of the one your grandma would buy you as a kiddo at Bakers Square. Perfect chocolate flavor with heaping amounts of whipped cream to make every bite satisfying. The cold brew in summer is very very good, and the coffee here is consistently delicious. The pastries are fine--the Nutella brioche is a standout. My mother has eaten at least one of their pecan sticky buns every week for many years, so if sticky sweet is your thing definitely try that out as well.
This was disappointing. I had the pork apple sage pie. The pork was ground, and the apple and sage were indistinguishable to the point where if it wasnt in the name of the pie i would know it is in there.Suggestions - use real pork, have nice chunks of apple, and a gravy that has that hint of sage would be sensational. Heck, why not throw some pork crackling/scratchings on the lid of the pie as well?Oh, and dont reheat the slice, cut me a fresh slice please. I dont understand how your pie of the day needs to be reheated. Mine had some colder bits in the middle!Maybe it was an off day or maybe i chose an average pie. Whichever it was, unfortunately it did not live up to its Google rating.
Pretty decent coffee, good black iced tea. Service here can be a little slow. They seem to only have one point of sales station so it can take a bit of time to get in your order if there is a line. Good pastries although I have not yet tried their savory pies, sandwiches, etc. Attentive staff, good to support a local spot.
Everything is delicious here! I particularly recommend the pork sage pie and the passion fruit meringue pie. Ingredients are high quality and theyve been great with maintaining covid safety for guests and employees. They are a more pricey option but not unreasonably so.
The pies pretty good, theres a lot of filling and I might even say it feels more cobbler-like than pielike? Theres not always a bottom layer of crust which is a little bit weird but it was still pretty tasty. Unsure of whether this is the style, or just had a weird piece of pie.
Holy cow was breakfast here delicious! My husband and I both had breakfast sandwiches on biscuits that were a mile high. There was ample seating inside and out. We sat outside because there were more opportunities to pet friendly dogs that were joining their owners as well for breakfast
As a kiwi traveller, finding genuinely home-made styled baked goods and SAVOURY PIES (ok, still no pastry bottom like home - but SAVOURY!!) was awesome! Also a great friendly vibe and cool people behind the counter - interested and happy n friendly!! All of them! And the COFFEE WAS SPOT ON!!!!! :-)
This has become one of my favorite spots since moving to Evanston. The staff is always friendly and helpful. The chai latte is my go-to and its absolutely delicious with some almond milk. Their lunch options are very filling and hand-pies are a great snack, if I want something smaller. I could eat their frosted oatmeal cookies everyday. The sweet pies Ive tried arent overwhelmingly sugary, which makes them perfect!
Very unique items on the menu. While I really enjoyed myself, I can understand how there might not be something for everyone who might have allergies - but... The staff were VERY accommodating for my friend with me who asked for a modification of his order. Awesome patio area too. Check it out!
Very good food, chicken pot pie will fill you up, and tastes amazing. The sweet pies are always changing and always pretty delicious. Loses a star for being always packed to the point you almost have to fight for a table (double edged sword being popular), and they seriously need a pager system or a PA or something, when its busy its almost impossible to hear they call you up for your order in my experience.
Was really excited to purchase 4 pies for my grandmothers 89th birthday. Heard great reviews, but hadnt tried it myself yet. Couldnt have been more disappointed. Lemon meringue tasted oddly metallic and fishy. Even my mom tasted the same thing. Maple pecan was WAY too sweet. Key lime was good, but the crust on the bottom stuck to the pan like it was burnt or something...? It was a big failure for her birthday, I was not only disappointed but also embarrassed after raving about how great the pies were going to be and getting everyone excited.
This place is amazing. We even bought the recipe book. We really love the savory pies for breakfast- though the line is out the door on the weekends. Its worth the wait! I ran a half-marathon earlier this year and as I got tired at the end, I told myself about the pie I was gonna have after it was over and it got me through! Ive sampled a lot of their menu and never had anything that was short of absolutely delicious.
Eat here! Great food served quickly. Awesome service and the menu has something for everyone. Savory and sweet pie, Wide variety of tea, coffee, cold drinks.I had Lamb Curry pie and Pumpkin pie with whip cream. Both were fantastic.Employees take time to answer questions and explain menu items. They also have free WiFi if you are looking for a cool place to study or get work done.Food is ordered at the front counter and served at the side bar. There is a long bar for seating, many tables, and a couch.
The pies here are amazing. My favorite is the fat Elvis. But all the pies are amazing. And the other breakfast items are great. The best breakfast biscuit I have ever had I had there. And my wife always loves the different quiches. My kids love the scones and muffins. And the Mexican Mocha is amazing, as well as the rest of the coffee and espresso options.
Awesome pie joint! They have a great selection of savory and sweet pies that changes daily. Plenty of traditional pies and a lot of interesting choices. All very well done and really tasty. Try something that youve never had and youll probably be pleasantly surprised. They also brew Metropolis coffee, one of my favorite coffee roasters in Chicago. Their customer service is quick and friendly. Even if there is the occasional short line, it moves quickly and you dont have to wait long for your pie. Substitute one of their savory pies for your lunch or dinner and youll be pleasantly surprised. Highly recommended.
Theyve got a huge selection of savory and sweet pies. The sliced savory ones are pretty regularly sized but the sliced sweet pies are BIG. Id suggest sharing one between two people after a lunch or dinner. It was a little disorganized but I think thats because it has an open kitchen type of set up; we got our food in timely manner so it doesnt really affect that part.
As a Southern Evanstonian, I have been coming here for years. The food is always delicious, from their savory pies to their sweet pies Ive never had anything that was disappointing. My favorite thing to order when Im craving something savory is a slice of their Chicken Tomatillo Pie (its spicy, think of a tamale in pie form) with their side salad. When Im craving something sweet I always go for a slice of their Hoosier Sugar Cream Pie.This place is a little pricey, but totally worth it!
Love their Scone sandwiches, broccoli quiche and apple pie. Should try more dishes. They have very high ceiling, however because of some reason, it can get very smoky with cooking orders. Wish they will improve the ventilation little more. Its nice atmosphere for brunch with kids or leisure reading alone .
Omg, the coffee here was AMAZING. I just cant even tell you how good it was and it was just a basic drip coffee. The atmosphere was so cool too- sort of industrial, but it felt so homey at the same time, and its also quite a big space. The cashier who helped me was absolutely lovely. Even their bathroom was cute. 10/10 would recommend.
Lots of pies to choose from. Some good and some not so good. To be frankly honest, their pies are not that outstanding. It’s actually their delicious breakfast sandwiches made with their homemade buttery flaky biscuits that’s the real star of the show. I recommend to try their breakfast biscuits but they only serve them in the mornings before 11 AM. Get there early.Free Parking at the back of the Retail Complex. Entrance is at the middle of the complex on Chicago Avenue.
I really enjoy the food here!! 5 stars for their brunch, savory, and chocolate cream pies. My rating reduction is if for customer service during the weekends, mornings to be specific.I order by Toc. Throughout COVID, a staff member would either come outside or you could poke your head in and say youve a pickup, vs standing on line. My last encounter, is the third time in which register staff came off as pretty rude and didnt take the time to listen that Im picking up an order. One time, okay. Second time, hmm. Third time is a pattern. Im a very patient person as Ive had relatives work in the food service industry and it is a hard job. I get that it is the weekend too and COVID measures need to be implemented. But, customer service is customer service. Please have a more efficient means for order pick up without staff elevating their voices towards customers. And more customer service training.
Coffee is excellent and so is the selection of pies. Ive been here several times and found that the non-fruit pies are just not good. I got a slice of the banana cream on two separate occasions and it didnt taste like banana. The shaved white chocolate on top of the slice tasted so bad, it ruined the flavor of everything else (I think it absorbed the odors inside the refrigerator). Key lime pie was fabulous but the meringue on the lemon meringue was absolutely repulsive--again, absorbing the flavors of the fridge. I think they store their savory pies next to the delicate sweet pies which is a big no-no.
Omg this place is great. Seriously, the BEST pie I ever had. Queen Victoria, Hoosier pie whatever you choose. Interesting food, not common but very delicious I dont really like biscuits and I had a breakfast biscuit it was delicious. The place runs like a machine, everybodys super nice it was the first time Ive ever been there and you can bet good money I will be back for the pie alone! And for the pleasant atmosphere as well. I enjoyed being there. You got to check it out and see for yourself!
Some really nice flavors. The flight of pies is a nice idea. A bit on the pricey side for what you get in size in general. Genial service. Not a place for a bunch of guys to gorge on pie-unless youre rich. But if youre watching your waistline, then the portions are good.
Last time I went, it was terrific. This time there was a strange smell in the store & the pies we brought home somehow retained that smell. It smelled like laundry soap or some kind of cleaner like bleach. The crumb on the apple pie was inedible & left a strong, chemical-y aftertaste. Not sure what happened this time, but it was very disappointing. About $15 wasted, with the biggest shame being that it was celebratory pie for my husbands birthday. Hope the pies are back to their usual awesome soon.
Amazing pies! My girlfriend has been to most of the pie places in Chicago, and she says it is one of the best. We walked in just as they were putting out a new tray of samples, and they were pretty generous portions. We were originally just going to get slices of chocolate cream and banana cream, but after sampling the sugar cream we added that one as well.My personal favorite of the three was the sugar cream, but all were really quite delicious. $5/slice = worth it.
The pie and the staff is great. The difficulty that I generally have with this location is that it is very popular with students and it gets difficult to get a place to sit. Its a petty concern, I know, but it still impacts the atmosphere and its good to keep Im mind if you are seeking a quiet location.
The pies here are great. Both sweet and savory which make great dinners. The atmosphere is cozy and themed like a elementary school classroom. They also have a variety of other baked sweets like muffins. They make great apple pie, fat Elvis pie, and a pork apple sage savory pie. Coffee is good here too.
My girlfriend hit this place up for lunch with a pal. Together they had a pot pie and some pie and she said both were delicious. Ill be heading back on my own or with her to sample the pot pie. She brought home an apple pie and a sugar pie.The apple pie was great, densely packed with apples with a weighty crust. It was a hearty and autumnal treat, something to munch on as the leaves turn and cold wind blows. The sugar pie took pie eating to 11. It was amazing and I had a hard time not just eating the whole thing in one sitting. Ive never had a sugar pie before but its a delectable and creamy experience with a taste somewhere between sugar/molasses/maple vaguely reminiscent of some sort of midwestern baklava.Check this place out!
Ran in here to pick up some lunch. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Got three different slices of savory pie: chicken tomatilla, roasted veggie and lamb curry. I only had the tomatilla and it was very good; my office mate had the other two and he said they were also very good. The inside is very cute and cozy; when warm, they have a patio area outside. If youve not had Hoosier Mama Pie, I would suggest having a savory and sweet one-just to make sure you get the full experience.
If I could give this place a million stars, I would! My husband I had the chicken pot pie, the pork apple sage, and a slice of rhubarb. Everything was fresh and delicious as always. The coconut cream and the passion fruit are my faves and are to die for! Will always return.
A relaxed, family friendly place. But , please, do keep the kids under control because there are older patrons too & some have service animals on duty. Food is good & some dishes are seasonal. Wifi is available, so study groups are seasonal as well. A very sociable place to met a friend at.
Go for breakfast, get the quiche and cry with happiness. If you dont feel like a full cry, get the breakfast sandwich and slowly weep with joy. Go back for lunch and get the hand pies and contemplate what youve been doing with your life before this moment. Return after dinner and get one of their fresh baked pies. If you get the chocolate cream pie, you may need to lie down until youve returned to our plane of existence.
I would give Hoosier Mama 5 stars if their pie crust was lighter and flakier. A flaky crust is the cornerstone to a superior pie experience. Hoosier Mamas pies have a really tough (and not particularly tasty) crust...but the variety of fillings ( which are super delicious) is great. All the other food served is excellent. Enjoy the space but the staff is hit or miss. Sometimes they are open and friendly...sometimes snooty and cold. I have recommended the place to a lot of people...but I always give them a heads up on the lack luster crust.
Oh you want a espresso drink at a coffee shop that’s open? And has at least 8 people working there? “Sorry the barista is about to go on break. You could have an cold brew coffee instead” That was what the cashier told me when I tried to order an iced latte. Ridiculous. Never coming back and their pies are overpriced.
Absolutely fantastic experience here. I was able to ask questions about ingredients with some of their foods that I was unfamiliar with , their prices were great and their food came out delicious. Cant wait to make this a regular breakfast spot for me and my boyfriend. Thanks for the great service! :)
Amazing pies (Chocolate Cream FTW) and wonderful service. Only downside is that there always seems to be people camped out at tables with their laptops or buried in their phones with no signs of leaving. Most recently, my party of three didnt have anywhere to sit, so we took our items to go. That, of course, means that they are busy enough to be packed, so its a good problem to have for them... just wasnt ideal for us.
I had a large hot cocoa , great atmosphere for hanging out with friends. theres an outdoor seating area with colorful chairs , perfect for the summer. can also study there but a lot of ambient noise , as you would expect in any coffee shop. Also evanston is great neighbourhood .
This was our fallback the other day when the line at Walker brothers was way too long.Really glad we didnt go to Walker brothers. My wife ordered the bacon quiche, my son the bacon egg and cheese biscuit, daughter had a scone and I got yogurt with seasonal fruit granola and a side biscuit with butter and jelly. Everything was great home made, real food. The coffee is amazing, the staff super friendly prices are reasonable.
Great coffee (but depends a bit who of the barista makes it). Great pies (if the waiter manages to cut it well otherwise it sometimes comes in little pieces). Live jazzy music on weekends and open til late. It can get noisy sometimes. Good spot to sit outside in the summer (rare in Evanston).
An amazing bake shop and great place to grab breakfast and/or lunch. Their focus on food means their espresso drinks arent too great. Their straight espresso often tastes burnt, so opt for mixed espresso drinks or tea instead. Definitely try their breakfast sandwiches, breakfast parfait (highly underrated) and chicken salad sandwich.
This is seriously the best pie shop I have ever been to in my life. And I love the Evanston location even more than the Chicago location, which was unexpected. Ive been going to this place for 7 years or so, starting with the small storefront in Chicago. The Evanston location gives you enough space to hang out with larger groups of people, is open late and is steps from the Purple line. I rarely review anything, but pies this good deserve a review. The lines are long for a reason.
Best pie, period. I’m partial to the sugar cream and rarely deviate unless it’s sold out. I don’t recommend coming EOD for your favorite pie because it’s most likely gone by then. Clean bathrooms, self-serve water tap, nice outdoor seating, and plenty of trust-fund baby snobbery to entertain you. A go-to date night spot.
I am a Hoosier so obviously I couldnt resist going here. Now its in my agenda every time Im in the city! Fun atmosphere, really hip, easy to get to location, mostly friendly staff (there is one gal in particular that is always kinda grumpy... Ha), and most importantly DELICIOUS food. Ive not been disappointed in a single thing here. I love the small (aprox 6 inch) pies. They are perfect to get a couple with a group and try all the different kinds. There are always a couple standards (like sugar cream pie! Totally an Indiana thing. You HAVE to try it) and there some more seasonal pies. There is also a selection of savory pot pies, hand pies, and quiches. The hand pies are something great for a quick portable lunch. And the quiche...omg. So so good, with unique fillings too. They also offer some sandwiches and salads, which obviously arent the stars, but still very good. As far as drinks go, they have a great coffee bar. With, again, unique flavors. I had a lavender honey latte and wow! The have a cooler full of artisanal sodas as well!
This place is most accurately described as hipster hell, everywhere you look its full on out of date hipster clothing, show service, customers who cant make up their mind, and lackluster overpriced coffee. We were sitting by the window and it was practically training on us from Lord only knows what. Theres much better coffee in the area and atmosphere including the Starbucks down the street.
Something about homemade pie conjures images of down-home friendliness and a burst of fresh flavor and warmth. This place has the pie-flavor bit down, but the friendliness doesnt exist. The staff, which seems to consist solely of petulant college-age hipsters full of ennui, isnt worth it. The pie is good, although the crust could stand to be a bit lighter and flakier, but the level of staff inattention, rudeness, and obvious irritation at having to wait on customers is too much. This is the Chicago area. There are a LOT of pie places. I like Dollops coffee, and this should be a winning no-brainer pie-and-coffee combo. But no. Im never going back, nor will I recommend this place to anyone. Youll have a better overall experience just buying a frozen pie at Jewel. The flavor wont be as good, but you wont have to look at doofus idiots more interested in checking their phones than doing their jobs.
It only got two stars because I spent the whole afternoon writing a research essay and they didnt bother me at all. Coffee and free wifi got it another star. However, their pie is nauseating. I had a slice of banana cream because it is one of my favorite things in the entire world. The pie itself was the equivalent of pouring sugar down your throat. GROSS! The bananas were cold, the custard/pudding was basically overly sweetened whipped cream and who put white chocolate on this pie? I took 3 bites and threw the rest of it out. It also doesnt help their cause that each piece is $6. I can make a whole pie for that much at home (trust me, I do it all the time). What a shame. I had such high expectations and I was let down big time.
Seriously one of my favorite places to eat. I have had good and ok. But you be honest thats real. Its not saying my ok wasnt great yo another person. My wow factor is that things I thought I hated they made me like. Curry, rhubarb, and more. So if they can do that its worth it to me. Pro great food great choices of food. Good coffee. Cons little pricey , the menu on the wall sometimes isnt so easy to read but the line forms near it and you better know before someone else walks in. They will be blocking it. Over all great time great staff.
Service is awful but the pies are good. For the amount of money you spend, a little helpfulness from the staff would be appreciated. Unfortunately, some of the girls make it seem like it is a great task to do something simple as get you a to-go bag. Very unfortunate since the prospect of the shop is so cute and yummy. I stopped going because of my staff fustrations.
The only problem is that there seems to be a lack of cleanliness. One staff person was touching his hair, picked up a pie with his Bare hands (yes touching the pie itself) and then touching a box of chalk. Then his hair again. Not really clean. Yuck. I made sure he didnt touch my order. Everyone else is working with a purpose. My favorite is the Hoosier sugar cream pie.
Breathing space has finally arrived for the hard-working pastry chefs and kitchen staff of Hoosier Mama. From a tiny Ukrainian Village outlet, this crew has produced first-rate pies, pastries and more, spawning national recognition, and now, they have a brand-new place to flash those wonderful wares. Do not pass up those scones! I had the chocolate-chip version on my first trip, and it was delightfully moist but also flaky. Sandwiches are great too, served on fresh bread with generous portion sizes. My third-trip to the store led me straight for a cortado and classic apple pie, both outstanding. My only complaint is slight: I wish the space were a little less new, a little more cozy with the homely patina of its original location. But take that indier-than-thou comment with a generous grain of salt, this place is sure to please and is a welcome addition to Evanston.
Whats better than a delicious slice of pie on pi day? Two slices of pie! Better yet, make that three slices of pie! They offer 3 half slices for $8 after 6p... caveat: you have to choose from a shorten list and dine in. I decided on apple (classic), chocolate creme (smooth & rich), and orange creme (like an orange creamsicle with a delicious pecan graham cracker crust).
Unimpressed. We came on a Monday evening and most of the pie slices werent available. We got apple and chocolate cream, Apple was served cold (who does that) and the chocolate cream tasted like imitation French silk pie. The coffee honestly tasted burnt. We had high hopes for this place (Chicago foodies) but next time we have a pie craving, were sticking to Bakers square.
There is no other place in Chicago you should buy a pie at. Period. Get the chicken pot pie (the big one, to go). I think big pies are around $30 and mini personal pies are about $10. OMG do not pass this place up. If you like pie (like asking if you like oxygen) go here.
Ooooh...Meeer...Gerd!!!! Im so sad that I dont have pictures to post here, but will update this review in the near future. So, Ive only had a few things here so far, and they kicked my taste buds in their ass!!! Started with their mud pie(?) and its now a signature for hubby and I. Then had their savory meat/veggie hand pies.... Whaaaaaaaaaa?!!! Then last but not least, their passion fruit pound cake! I have to explain something here... Hubby and I stopped in to get our 2 other favorite things, to go, as I saw these sweet lil, what looks like, cornbread loaves in their display case. As I was cashing out, I made an impulse buy, and purchased one of the loaves. They then gave me the loaf first while I waited for my hand pies to warm and chocolate pie to box. I was a lil peckish, so I decided to snack on the loaf. Once I took a lil bite, I literally yelled out loud, oh my God!, because I had no idea what I had gotten myself into. So, needless to say, I had to ask if this passion fruit pound cake was always available, and they said no. 😤 So, as a request, Hoosier Mama bakery inside of Dollop Cafe, please please please make that pound cake readily available?!! Pleeeeeease?!! I love you, and thank you.
Good pies but the serving staff consists entirely of sullen hipsters and everything, from making a cappuccino to cutting and serving a slice of pie moves at a glacial pace, even though there are 5+ staff around. Imagine the sloths from Zootopia are your baristas, but then without a sense of humor. Expect a 25 minute wait on weekends and no room to sit.
Despite the rapid service and delightful food , the service was a very unpleasant experience. The red head at the bar was Extremely rude to me. Horrible experience for my first time there. It is quit shameful that the employees do not Match the standards to what this cute place could have.

2021-10-14Delicious pork, apple, sage pie and chicken pot pie. We also took home banana cream - just like home made. Their crust is one of the best weve had especially on the savories - so buttery. Service was great. One disappointment. We traveled all the way from Naperville and made sure we were there before the 11:30 cutoff for breakfast sandwiches only to find a sign reading the biscuit sandwiches were not being served that morning. Thats really one thing we came for. Make sure you call first if thats what youre craving.

2022-07-03I’ve been to this place for over five years for pie. Today I decided to go rogue, and it was the best decision I made. Everything was delicious

2021-06-02The apple pie was amazing! The crust was thin and buttery and the apple to sugar and cinnamon ratio was excellent so it wasn’t too sweet and had a tartness that made it refreshing. The chicken pot pie was very mushy. The filling seems to be over cooked and the ingredients lost their texture, if felt like the texture of cat food. The basic flavors were there but it was lacking salt.

2022-04-23First time here, food was great quality for the price. Coffee was standard. Everyone was very nice and the cook (I think) checked on us to make sure our order tasted good. Would come again. Biscuit sandwich is a MUST try.

2022-04-14I’m an extremely pro mask and pro vaccine individual but was a little caught by surprise on the continued mask wearing rule but more particularly the cashless pay. I feel like this is a little much and completely understand every business has the right to request that of their customers but I will probably opt for another coffee shop in the neighborhood next time. I understand keeping these rules in place due to this continuing pandemic but knowing I can basically never pay cash here again is sadly a deal breaker for me. Everywhere else in Evanston allows you to use cash again and has for months now.

2022-03-06Fillings in the pies are usually on point, but the crust is quite thin and underbakes more frequently than I would like. Maybe it’s a matter of preference? Dunno. I love love love the roasted vegetable pie. It’s just perfect. No other words. :)

2022-05-31Over two weeks ago, we met with both the Owners and Manager of Hoosier Mama and Dollop Coffee to discuss the discriminatory incident that we were subjected to at Hoosier Mama by two aggressively racist customers who verbally attacked us and moved our property. At that meeting both the Owners acknowledged that Hoosier Mama had mishandled the situation. The Owners stated their intention to work closely with Race Forward and Western States Center, two organizations they have existing relationships with, to focus on Counter Stereotyping training and understanding implicit bias. They also agreed to release a statement to reaffirm their commitment to creating an anti-racist environment within Hoosier Mama. We, in turn, agreed to take down our negative Yelp review and post a description of how Hoosier Mama had worked with us to resolve a truly ugly racial incident. We promptly did our part and took down the Yelp review. We also prepared a description of the positive steps to be taken which we would have posted immediately after Hoosier Mama posted their statement. In the weeks between the meeting and this post, we have reached out twice to the Owners to ask for updates on their progress towards their commitments. To date, Hoosier Mama has not yet shown clear evidence of action. In light of this lack of progress, we are re-posting our initial Yelp review and including an update on the meeting and its results. We look forward to hearing updates from Hoosier Mama and Dollop Coffee about their active commitment towards anti-racism.
