This was sad.First the good: Staff is very nice. Cool lobby. Must have been an amazing place in its day. Rooms are old, but unusual and attractive - love the ceilings in the king room. Nice towels. The bed is ok and all was clean. The not so good: The place is undergoing mega remodeling and there are few guests. Conferences are still going on. The “free hot breakfast” is powdered eggs, sausages, tater tots, old pancakes in a warmer, bread for toast, yogurt cups. Warning signs about stuff falling from the sky from roofing going on. Hunks of concrete and branches laying on sidewalks as you come into the place. The awful: The toilets were designed for midgets The bath trash can is taller. Getting down to sit on this for an average-sized person is a challenge. If you have back issues, this is genuinely painful. The shower head puts out a puny spray and the fan doesn’t work. The desk chair is set super low and is ready to disintegrate. (Be careful!) The “breakfast room” likely used to be a breakroom down four steps which is not at all accessible for those who struggle with steps. One of the elevators broke the morning we checked out and the hydraulic fumes were pretty intense with drips of oil on the floor of the one working elevator.I chose this place for price ~$100/night, great location to the new brewery DeStihl! and because I like charm over the plastic hotels on the roadside. But this needs a massive overhaul. And replacement of plumbing!
The outside is a wreck due to a roofing project but the inside is clean, tho the decore is oddly creepy and old. Breakfast is 8-10am which is unusually late for a hotel. They said its due to COVID reopening rules but it actually cases a backup, congestion, table sharing with strangers, and there arent enough tables for everyone at once. Poor planning. The toilet keeps running and there is a ceiling light on low near the bed /sink that has no switch to turn off. The 2nd story room window is roof level (where the construction tools are dispersed) and doesnt close fully but I cant open it either. The pool is not working. Not sure show I ended up with a king suite room but its huge with a comfortable bed with two rooms and two TVs.
The hotel is an old but clean hotel. They have an old style front entrance with an attempt at a French manner. The carpet has been changed in the main lobby and hall. However it’s time the hotel upgrades from the 1980’s to the current year. The dark interior is more akin to a hotel horror story. The dark antique furniture hasn’t been updated or set to match a more current atmosphere. The room was clean and free of any damage or issues. Once again, it needs an overhaul. The lamps are of old bronze with no USB or power outlets. The internet was ok but not very fast. The staff were great at making us feel welcome and offered to help with anything we need. The morning breakfast was fabulous. The eggs were fluffy with cheese. The biscuits and gravy were delicious. The muffins were fresh and a good variety. Thank you Jumers for a great night!!
Positive: Location. Pet friendly. Negative: The staff tried to provide good service, except for the woman that was working at the desk on the morning of May 22. She was very rude to me and just shugged when asked a question. The people working the evenings were very customer focused.
We have stayed here many times, but this time has been the worst. The price was far more than others and the quality was far below than before. The beds are sinking, the paint is chipping, the noise level of other rooms is unbearable...its just not comfortable like it was before and thats sad! This has always been our go to hotel, but after this trip, not anymore. The prices went way up and the quality went way down, almost like Super 8 qaulity. This isnt good!
When arriving to hotel we were not informed ahead of time about the indoor pool being under maintenance ( put a damper on my little ones spring break) , the chandelier in the room was kind of crooked and looked as if it could fall at any moment. The chandelier lights kept turning off ( blowing out) while we were in the room. We were without water for a few hours during our stay which put a strain on our feelings about the hotel and our stay.
First, if you want indoor pool, right now isnt the time to come here since its closed for renovations. If you are a light sleeper, make sure you ask for a spot where its quiet. The walls are paper thin. I could hear the people all night, toilet flushing (literally sounds like the water is running in my room), door slamming, yelling in the hall, their tv on full blast. Its 730 am and the car in the parking lot music is so loud and bassy i can hear it on the 4th floor. The place is nice and clean. You can tell they are trying to restore it. Our desk clerk at night, Gregory, was very nice and helpful. There are some small details like the wall paper in our room is peeling off and the chair in my room looks like it was ripped then sewed up.
Positive: Location Negative: One of the light switches was missing a cover plate. Room looked quite outdated & very worn down. Several areas looked like the hasn¿t been cleaned in a long time. The toilet ran forever after each time it was flushed. All but one set of elevators down
If I could give 0 stars, I would do so. Booked a room on their website, which stipulated they were animal friendly. They said to call to confirm. Did so, and was disconnected after a 15 minte wait. Redailed, and was told since my animal was over 25 lbs, he was not welcome. This is not stated anywhere on their website. Attitude was too bad for you.
Positive: The staff was so accommodating. They are professional, polite, informative and kind. Negative: This is an older hotel & I think that its in the process of being remodeled. That being said, the bedding is old/worn. The mattresses are old. The linen (sheets, blankets, pillowcases) has holes in it, due to being old/worn.
Positive: Close to restaurants and retail. The staff was really kind. Negative: A really, REALLY dated property with paper-thin walls, depressing furniture from 1981, lukewarm water in the shower, a screwed-shut window (is that even legal?) and a heating unit that looked to be from the Nixon era. Two stars would be generous.
Positive: It was only 10 minutes from everything and the area surrounding was clean so I wasnt worried about safety. Negative: Everything was literally falling apart. We couldnt go to the pool because the handle came off when you tried to open the door. The only elevators that were in service were by the lobby, but the stairs took you through the employee area so couldnt use.
Positive: Staff was very friendly. Fast check in and out. Negative: It took a several minutes for the water to get hot in the shower and it never did get hot in the sink. We were on the 4th floor. There were a few silverfish bugs in the room. Although harmless to humans, still a little creepy.
Positive: Location maybe. Negative: Yeah, they said they had a pool but upon checking in I learned it wasn¿t available and has been closed for more than 6 months. Also they are currently getting a new roof and the workers were directly outside my window on the 4th before 8am one morning.
First of all, I want to mention that I actually stayed at this hotel around 4 years ago for business and had a nice time! With the holiday season I was passing through the area and figured it would be a good stopping point for the night. Lets just say, it was not great. The staff themselves were friendly and I had no issue with either the night or morning front desk receptionists. However, the hotel itself had obviously not received much upkeep since the last time I was there and looked not so hot. The outside was not well lit and there were a few creepy people hanging around. The room itself felt like it was super old and musty smelling, and the bathtub was a bit gross. Bed was also super hard and uncomfortable and you could hear conversations from the outside. Also, it was mentioned that there would be grab and go breakfast in the morning in bags, but there was none so I had go to buy some.So yeah, if you are traveling through Bloomington, there are far better options both here and in Champaign, Illinois for hotels.
Beautiful beyond gorgeous place! Never stayed anywhere like it. Definitely lives up to its name Chateau which is French for castle which it is with all its vintage beautiful rooms and decore, plus the staff is very friendly and helpful. I will definitely go back and anyone looking to get married this 0lace would be a great venue to check out
Positive: The hotel was located in the right part of Bloomington for my work - and was close to the airport. It was nice to stay at a hotel that was not a cookie-cutter of all other hotels. Negative: I would have appreciated more than just coffee and a packaged pastry on the mornings I was there. Coffee all morning long would have been appreciated as well. The staff was quite friendly, though... :)
Positive: The location is great and I liked that our dog could stay with us, though by phone, they did not tell us of a size limit on the dog and when we got there, they said only small dogs (ours is medium to large). I complained and they allowed ours. Negative: Clearly a pot-smoking hang out--we could almost get high walking in the door of the hotel and in our rooms bathroom. Also, the place is in general need of restoration.
We have stayed here a few times in the last couple years when visiting family and had our Wedding Reception here 30 years ago this year!!! Its really sad how much it has deteriorated and how little upkeep has been done to maintain it. The staff were VERY friendly this visit. The room is very dated and run down but was clean enough. The bathroom was in need of maintenance type repairs and deep cleaning. The air conditioning unit worked to cool the room but was VERY loud and woke us through the night each time the compressor kicked in. It used to be such a beautiful place ... hoping the new owners can do some much needed updating and repairs.
Iconic Boutique Hotel in Bloomington, IL with exquisite architecture resembling a French Castle! Highly recommended for visitors seeking a Hotel in Bloomington or Hotel In Normal, IL as The Chateau is located in the heart of Bloomington-Normal off Veterans Parkway and Jumer Dr. Exceptional friendly service, family-friendly rates, great clean rooms and excellent accomodations. Be sure to stay at “The Castle” when visiting Bloomington or Normal and check-in to The Chateau Hotel for a unique and memorable Hotel experience.
Overall experience was good. Great pricing, CLEAN rooms. After getting the riot act about the no smoking policy in the hotel, the room next to ours was apparently the smoking den despite the no smoking placard on the door. When we returned to the hotel late Friday night, the main lobby smelled as if it was the mid 80s bowling alley. If your going to go thru the lecture and threatening charged associated with it, perhaps enforce it better.
Hotel interior and exterior are good and it’s quite old Hotel.1. Worst Hotel experience ever.2. Room walls are very thin, you could hear the other room person talking and loud music all night.3. Tried calling management, the phone doesn’t work.4. Super loud refrigerator, sounds like a huge motor running next to you all night.5. My neighbor was knocking the room door like every 10 min or something.6. There are room service people sitting in the hallway blocking the walking space.7. Hair dryer is broken.8. Most of the elevator is out of order and the one that works doesn’t stop on the right floor and sometimes that doesn’t work too.I hardly slept 2 to 3 hours.I could still hear the refrigerator running sound, oh boy it’s horrible!!If you’re looking for a peaceful place to sleep, stay away from this Hotel.
Positive: The staff were all wonderful! The room was clean and nice for the money we spent. Negative: There was a spider in my bed... time of year, but ewww! The lobby is musty smelling as is the hallway. The staff are not trained to tell about the hotel, history or areas of the hotel
My family and I stayed here while having our vehicle repaired nearby. We really enjoyed ourselves. Its like walking through Beauty and the Beasts castle and the Chronicles of Narnia mixed together!! If youre in the area and need an amazing place to stay this is absolutely the place.
Inexpensive, but not worth it. The exterior is extremely worn. Building does not look kept up at all. Parking lot is crumbling away. The smell of mold & mildew hit you immediately upon entering. Surprisingly, it is clean. However, this does not make up for anything else. The Covid Friendly breakfast items are a joke. Cant even get a bottle of water without paying for it. Youre better off going to the Jewel Foods next door.
The Chateau used to be a really nice place. Not anymore. I dont see it staying in operation much longer. The pool isnt open, the restaurant is closed, no room service, cheap decor updates, corroding fixtures, the smell of mildew, no bedspreads (just the sheets with a light blanket between), a clunky old HVAC unit that blows air up behind the ugly curtains (the room could only be too hot or too cold), our key cards stopped working at one point, no housekeeping service until about 5pm (we asked them to clean it twice earlier that morning), a place for the refrigerator that was removed (we couldve used that), very few electrical outlets in the room, very uncomfortable beds, and the staff claimed there was no manager on duty until Monday. Dont be fooled by the 3-star rating; I believe its only because the exterior looks like a castle. Beyond that, nope. It should be called The Shiteau. 😆
Hotel is very clean. It’s somewhat older inside but clean. The service is amazing, everyone is polite and helpful. For the price I would recommend this hotel. Also there is a TON of restaurants and stuff to do right around the hotel. The one con I would say is some junk was stolen out of the back of my work truck and there are no cameras around the hotel so be careful leaving anything out.
The bed, the bathroom, and the room seamed clean... But I found pizza crust on floor next to the bed. However the style of the chateau was very eclictic. The front desk people were pleasant and helpful. They told us the hotel was purchase by new owners and they would be updating and renovating. Would stay there again.
Positive: We¿ve stayed here several times. Staff are always friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean and comfy. Negative: They did not have breakfast as advertised nor was the pool available. The restaurant had closed down probably due to covid pandemic. They need to update their website.
Large castle-like place. The lobby is beautiful, and my room was nice. The only breakfast was a basket of muffins at the reception desk, so I went across the street to Bob Evans. The location is great, near restaurants and stores. My biggest complaint is that the wifi wasnt very good. Otherwise I had a good stay there.
Positive: Location, location, location. This was perfect. The hotel looks like a museum so this offers something other than just a normal humdrum fancy hotel. It has charm. The rooms are easy to get too and the staff was really genuine. Negative: Nothing stands out that was bad
It was nice, clean, and old fashioned. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. The desk clerk was nice and patient. They didnt actually have breakfast as advertised online. There were packaged muffins and danishes in the lobby every morning so if you wanted a real breakfast you would have to go to a nearby restaurant. The pool wasnt open which we werent informed about before we booked our rooms online or when we checked in. I would stay again after covid has cooled down.
Google and other sources listed this place as having a heated pool which I relied on when booking for two night retreat with my children, as the hotel has no website with current information. When I arrived I learned that the pool was not in service. The manager, Brittany, that I spoke to was rude and combative insisting on making everything my fault. She refused to assist me with a refund because I booked with a third party (hotels.com). I contacted said agency and waited on the phone as they called the very same manager who again refused a refund. Now we are stuck in a hotel with no pool for two days and making the best of it. The way I was treated during this ordeal was really crumby and I will never book here again.
I want to say that this place is good.... but its just ok. Dont get me wrong, it has the potential to be good, just not quite yet. I only paid $65 for the night and I feel if you pay more than that, then youve overpaid. Its an older hotel, think Medieval Times meets an antique store. Its kinda tired.... but its clean! My room was as expected....old but clean. So if you need a quick, cheap overnight stay....go for it. Pool isnt open, gym isnt open, no bar....but not a total surprise right now.
My Home away from Home in Bloomington.Originally built by Jumers in 1988, the Chateau in Bloomington has hosted Dignitaries, Rock Stars and United States Presidents and the Staff is Still Capable and True to their Mission of Providing the Best Service They are Capable of.Its a Tall Order, too... because of the Original Vision of the Jumers, the Structure was both built and furnished in a bespoke manner... and Time and Disrespect shown by certain guests have not been Kind to the Spirit of this Fine Hotel.Still, to me... like an Old Familiar Ship, the Chateau has acquired a certain Patina. Is she Perfect?...no... but who of us are?A Hotel such as the Chateau is INCREDIBLY Difficult to Maintain and to Staff. We as Guests indeed have Expectations, but often WE Fail to be Gracious and Grateful for the Hard Work that must be done to both Preserve a History and for the Chateau to continue to FunctionIn a Time where We have an often distorted view influenced by Technology that can suggest Perfection on Earth, we can lose sight of both Reality and Challenges that the People who still Serve us as our Hosts must face every single day. And, until I am Told otherwise by the Admiralty Above that Issues MY Orders, I shall show and Grant Our Respect to the Chateau and its Staff for Allowing me to be Their Guest.Kurt Bruno BiavaHonorary CaptainLifetime MemberUSS LST 325 Memorial, Inc.Evansville, Indiana
Positive: I did not end up staying. Due to the cheap price, the hotel seems to have attracted a bad crowd. There were nasty looking people around watching as I walked in. Negative: The hotels doors are old and heavy. Pretty inconvenient when you are carrying multiple bags, and have to open them yourself instead of automatic ones. I got very bad vibes after a druggie came into the lobby after another customer had a panic attack.
Positive: It was clean Negative: My room was clean, updated bath..dowfall was the sheets were thin, dingy, pillows hard. They need new linens. Not much to choose from in this entire area so this was as good as others I have stayed in at higher prices. Town seems to be dying out.
Positive: The guy who checked us in was friendly. Negative: This was labeled a 3 star hotel and an extraordinary price deal however it is very run down and nothing like it must have been in its former glory. They are not what they say they are. I doubt a conference has been held there in many years.
Very clean rooms, especially for the low price. Some parts of the rooms could use some serious updates but everything worked and was, again, clean. The hotel is has a very nice atmosphere, and despite looking a little run-down from the outside, still has some old-fashioned charm.
Positive: Parking, location Negative: First time in over 60 years I stayed in a place with NO PHONE!! Pool? Yes Working? No. Hate it when they say they have a pool and they dont if its not working you dont have one. Manager could have reached out and apologized never did get the phone
Positive: First, it was very convenient to our daughters house. 2nd, the external and internal ambiance with the door handles and the old carved European furniture and accent pieces in the main lobby and the floor above the lobby. Negative: The internet glitches. The TV connection would flick off for about 2-3 seconds while watching a program.
Positive: The staff The place was probably A+ when it was built. But now needs a LOT of updating. Negative: Tried to get the staff to fix the TV and the phone fell apart so I had to walk all the way around the outside of the big building to get a staff member. Found a dirty sock on the floor. Some exterior doors wouldnt accept my key card.
The front desk was horrible, never answers the phones, they put us in a room far away from the only elevator that works, looks like from the reviews that’s this elevator on 5th floor has been out of service for atleast 2 years. Also same for the 5th floor ice maker, asking for someone from front desk to deliver something after we had been downstairs was a nightmare, they kept saying they would show up and never did, we had to keep walking from the furthest room on 5th floor down to the basement. The tv was so dark we couldn’t tell who the actors were and we had to go down to front desk 2 times to ask because they don’t answer phones we came here just as quick stop to Nashville and wanted to watch our show Nashville but the tv wasn’t bright at all. Hair in the bathtub and a sticky spot by my bed decided to just throw a towel over it rather than ask for help, front desk crew not interested in helping. Stayed sept 18th to the 19th 2021
This was an excellent stay. I was immediately drawn to this location because of the design which is super unique. I was shocked to find out the rates are much lower than I expected so I was preparing for the worst. I was surprised. The lobby and staff were wonderful. The building has a lot of charm. Room was clean, quiet, and relaxing. This location is right next to Tony Romas so thats a plus. Cant really think of anything negative about my experience so I would definitely recommend staying here.
Was here because I was visiting some friends, I must say that the hotel was quite nice, giving off a little bit of an outdated luxurious vibe, which I liked. The pool and hot tub were nice, and the rooms were everything youd expect. I wasnt able to find anything wrong with my experience, but I didnt stay as long as others might.
This would be a five star, however the booking agency was unprofessional and ridiculously hard to do business with. The booking agency lied about the amenities offered and would not issue a refund, instead, they blamed the hotel and insisted the refund come from them. The hotel was beautiful and had a lot of charm and character.
Positive: Nothing Negative: All rooms had filthy windows Holes in carpet in room Garbage under both beds in our room Desk chair was COMPLETELY broken Breakfast consisted of muffin One of elevators was broken Vending machines out of order I WANT REFUND ON STAY WANT PICTURES F
Hotel is nice but rooms are getting old and rundown. Carpeting was old and torn in my room in a small area. If youre an adult and want to swim good luck it seems there are kids most of the day in the pool and also using the hot tub with their parents. Ran out of towels for the pool and the clerk had to go to all the floors find some cause most were all dirty and no staff to do towels. The clerk however seemed nice. The breakfast wasnt too bad though.
My wife and I stayed on a Saturday night with the romance package. We received a bag with some chocolates, a bottle of champagne, and $25 Tony Romas gift card. The room had a king bed and was decently sized. It was clean and everything was in order. The window would not open, but the AC/heater worked well so it wasnt too much of an issue. The pillows were quite lumpy and the TV was set in energy saving mode and kept dimming to a very dark level where it was kind of difficult to see what was happening during the day. The bathroom was clean, though the vent was quite dusty and grimy and the shower had a crack in the soap holder exposing the inner wall. However, the staff was very nice and the hotel was attached to a Tony Romas which was quite convenient. We would stay there again, but we would not get the romance package as we did not feel it was worth the cost.
The hotel is a little strange, especially given its surroundings. Its not dirty but it is old and worn down. That said my son and I had a lot of fun joking about its Oddity and were comfortable in our room. The service was excellent everyone was very friendly. I would definitely stay there again.
Great rate. Staff always friendly. Clean and Beautiful. Only hotel I stay at while staying in B/N. Any comparable hotel in a major US city, without Covid, would be 5 times the rate. Fountains, sculptures, paintings & fireplaces in the common areas. Actual paintings in the rooms.Truly a local gem. Huge parking lot. Plenty of room if you happen to be pulling a trailer. Coffee in the room. Packaged pastries at the front desk. Outdoor mall right across the (Veterans Parkway) street. Grocery store and restaurants right across the side street.
The two women that checked us in were great. Very welcoming. The room was more than good enough. We had a pet friendly room. Access to take dog outside was easy. I slept well. I wished I could have lounged around in bed & watched tv in the morning. The comfort, for the family, was pretty good.
Came here this past weekend for a wedding and this was a very nice venue. the staff went out of their way to make sure everything was just right and at the end they were really helpful to. the breakfast bar they put on was pretty awesome and do you need circulation throughout the hotel give you lots to talk about. Theres also a very nice pool on the lower level. They have some very neat decorations and are close to town
Rumor has it they are closing down May 2021 for a $9 million renovation to its previous Jumers glory days. In the meantime be sure to check out Priceline and other third party sites. I got standard room for $33/night plus tax when others were paying $80-90 for the same room. 5 stars for the price, 3 stars because they are treating it like they are about to close down for months...
Room was very old and dirty. Towels were from the 70s and almost see through. How they are supposed to dry you off is a mystery. Very different hotel than Ive stayed before. Feels haunted to me, so one night and change of location was in order. Nice staff saved the day.
Updated 19-Sep-2021 -My previous stay here was great and I reviewed it here with 5 stars. Today I just returned from another stay at this same location. And it hasnt aged well. Thus, review is revised to 3 stars. Summary items:1. The east elevator is out of order. Normally I wouldnt note this, except it was out of order when I was there last - 2 years ago - and thats significant. Has it ever worked? It has a temporarily out of order sign on it but I have to wonder how temporary that is.2. Of the two elevators in the main lobby, I only ever saw the one on the right working. So thats one working elevator out of three?3. The free breakfast is a stretch, a very big stretch. I had previously sung the praising of the attached restaurant, but now? Its gone. The interior corridor to it has been completely walled off. The breakfast now is a small rack of prepackaged pastries at the front desk. Not even juice - or anything liquid - so it doesnt even qualify as a continental breakfast. By 9:15am it was all gone. Thats ridiculous.4. Ice machine on the 5th floor (our floor...) was inoperative.5. Toilet in our room was noisy - the water valve squealed in pain every time it was active. I have to wonder if it was audible in the adjoining rooms.6. The decor is still great and it still oozes character. But the fountain in the lobby was not functioning and the fountain out front was dry.7. Room quality overall was fine, very clean and spacious. That DOES count for a lot. This place has the feel (again) like its seen better days, again :-(Original review (from 2019) -Last time I stayed at one of these (years ago) it was a Jumers (in Champaign IL) and the experience *then* was atrocious. I had heard that the brand had been bought out and has since come a long ways. I thought after seeing a current 3 diamond AAA rating and a really good nightly rate that I should try it out again. I booked a jr suite for 2 nights.I was pleasantly surprised. Sure, the building is a bit older (shall we say, mature with age) and things are somewhat dated (e.g. door peephole that doesnt have a cover, not enough electrical outlets in the room especially near the desk). However those are minor things and something I would expect from an older structure back in the days before people carried laptops / phones / tablets everywhere. What I encountered was a facility that just oozed character, and I didnt see anything dirty or poorly-maintained. It was very pleasant. The bed was excellent, the room decor was elegant, and with all that it was still the best deal in town. Now realistically, dont come here expecting to find a Ritz Carlton experience. But I found it a nice step up from your typical hotel. Id stay here again. Also, the attached restaurant, Tony Romas was really good as well. Very attentive service, and the steak medallions I had were excellent.Note: I saw in an earlier (very recent) review a complaint about the elevators being out of order. That made me hesitate, but Im glad I stayed there anyway. The reality is that theres two large ornate elevators in the lobby and theyre both working just fine. Theres another elevator down an east corridor (perhaps a service elevator?) and that one is definitely shut down. Should it be working? Of course. But it doesnt cause any problem because its off to the side around a corner and the two large main elevators are really what you want to use anyway. So elevator access: not a problem.
This hotel looks like theyve seen better days, but was still relatively clean and enjoyable nonetheless. I attended a pool party for a birthday and some things I noticed were that the ceiling around the air ducts was soaking wet and dripping, some metal surfaces were getting very rusty, the pool looked like it needed to be repainted, and the Sauna was missing both control knobs in the mens bathroom (there was also no sign for it so I discovered it by accident) so I was unable to use it. The hot tub was pretty nice with good working Jets and bubbles, the pool has a deep end which is increasingly rare for a hotel pool, and the water temp was perfect. I didnt interact with anyone working at the hotel but they looked friendly. The attached Tony Romas is a nice amenity, and the overall design style of the hotel is something you dont see much anymore, so I appreciate that there are still hotels like this around. I do wish theyd spend some time and money on renovations though as I think itd really help them out with repeat customers
Love this hotel. I use to work here a LONG time ago when they still offered cinnamon rolls and had a gift shop. Its sad to see that its gone down this road and is no longer a favorite place to go. I love the old charm and the history. The breakfast closed 1/2 hour before the restaurant opened in the morning which was inconvenient. The drink prices at the bar are ridiculous. Save your money and go elsewhere.I still plan to stay here when I go back to visit. Wish it the best!!
Very dated. The shower had multiple hairs in it, the night stand had long hair all over it like it hadnt been dusted, and the worst was the centipede crawling across our bed. We searched over the bed and did not see any other bugs or signs of bugs, but it just made me paranoid the rest of the night. Also the lock on the door was broken, so I moved the chair in front of the door to be safe. Our room was noisy with the people in the room next to us, and rattling of something in the light on the ceiling. Ended up sleeping with the TV on to drown out the noise. The only good thing about this experience was the comfortable king size bed and friendly staff at check in and out.
This is a huge, older building. It is unfortunately showing signs of deferred maintenance and neglect. For example doors and door frames are rotting. Some sidewalks and areas of the parking lot are in rough shape. The toilet in my room leaked on the floor. Thats what a toilet is supposed to prevent. The first room I was assigned to had a terrible odor and I was moved to a differerent room. The swimming pool was closed during my two night stay. After reading other reviews, this seems to be a recurring problem at the Chateau. The staff at the front desk were very helpful and friendly. The housekeeper was also helpful and kind. Dispite their professionalism, Ill probably stay elsewhere in the future.
Not impressed, unfortunately. The hotel is an outdated version of faux European charm and is actually still pretty cute and very clean. So if thats all youre looking for -- youre good. Unfortunately, our bed and pillows were not particularly comfortable and we both slept horribly. The AC doesnt go below 65 and turns on and off overnight and is incredibly loud. We tried to call the front desk to see if there was water available and the phone in our room did not work, so we called from a cell phone and were informed there was water on every floor but we went to multiple floors and they were all out. (I should note we were there during the week and the place was nearly empty.) The pool area is very outdated, has a very 60s vibe to it with a painted green floor. The pool itself was nice and deep, but the water had a milky quality that kind of freaked me out because looking down, you could not see your feet. Also the only way in and out of the pool is ladders, so people with limited mobility take note. We went down late in the evening to soak in the (shallow) hot tub and there were teenagers smoking IN THE POOL and it absolutely reeked of smoke. There doesnt seem to be any sort of security monitoring because no one came to do anything about it. In the morning, we went to the limited continental breakfast and I was pleased to see a waffle maker, but I poured two cups of batter and they came out as about 75% liquid with a few clumps of batter. I tried heo banana batter instead and that was fine, but there was not a spatula for removing the waffle and there were only plastic plates -- which a super hot waffle on plastic is gross and also makes the plate incredibly hot. The fruit that was available looked to be a few days past prime. There was cereal but no bowls. I checked by the front desk twice and there was no one up there. All in all, not quite the anniversary getaway we were hoping for.
The Chateau is charming but a bit old. I was apprehensive because of some of the negative reviews but when I checked in I found my room comfortable and it had good wifi, a nice tv, and a comfy bed. The next morning I woke up to no hot water for my shower. It wasnt just me it was the whole floor. It seems the gas line that fed 2 boilers had broken because of the cold weather. However, it was fixed by the afternoon and the manager apologized. I imagine this sort of thing can happen to any hotel. The rooms have some interesting touches. In mine, theres a chandelier, lace curtains, and a nice recliner. The staff is friendly and my stay included a good breakfast. The bacon was nice and crispy and the coffee was good and strong. Overall, I think either they have stepped up or the previous reviewers were a bit harsh.
Looks really cool on outside. We got a room in the basement. As soon as we got to the first floor, the moisture hit you and the musty, moldy smell. We mostly came here for swimming, so we went to the pool. The hot tub was ice cold and the pool had a few dead bugs in it. The pool area looked like it may not have been cleaned in awhile. There were hair clumps on the floor. We ended up leaving, and got a full refund.
This hotel has atmosphere. The rooms are a little dated, but comfortable. It is near many restaurants and grocery stores. The staff is helpful. They do have a SMALL breakfast in the morning, but it is just coffee a waffle and some fruit. Nothing big and would not be considered a continental breakfast.
Had to unfortunately cancel after getting the room in the first floor(lowest level)due to a very strong moldy smell. Pool was dirty, dead spiders on the floor, and the upper floor(main level)smelt like old books. I rate it a 3*, because they were very professional at their job and the architecture of the whole building was very cool to look at.
This was a wonderful place! The design of the rooms made it feel like a really high-end hotel for a fraction of the cost! The staff was very friendly. The only downside was the continental breakfast. There wasnt any juice and the only items available were muffins, fruit and cereal.
Although the rooms are a little smaller than a more modern hotel they have a lot of character and are really quite charming. The hotel has the feel of a modern castle and is very clean and well maintained. The staff is great and the attached restaurant is outstanding. Would definitely stay here again.
Somewhat pricey depending on room! Has a very fancy restaurant attached, good food and steaks! The hotel has swimming as well as a hot tub! Its a very beautiful hotel! Definitely one of the nicer ones in town! If you want a place thats nice and friendly and somewhat affordable this is your go to!
The room rate was good, but as the saying goes, you get what you pay for. Cute enough place, however pool wasnt heated and there was no remote for the tv. An issue the front desk was not inclined to resolve. So no TV. Lastly bedding with holes. Pay more elsewhere, you will get more.
The photos of the Chataeu do an accurate representation of the appearance of the hotel. However, this place deserves a 5-star rating solely based on the staff. The employees here are amazing. Everyone I encountered, ranging from the woman at the front desk (I believe she said her name was Mackenzie) to the housekeepers are all very well-mannered and sincere. No place is perfect, but what this place lacks is definitely made up for by the quality of the staff.
I was performing at an event at the hotel and they provided me a room at no charge. Overall it was nice, but I did find a gnat or two in my bed. Expected in the summer, but still a little unnerving. I wish there was am outlet near the bed. For some reason, hotels dont like to provide that unless you unplug a lamp or the alarm clock. Im not sure what the price was, but I have a feeling a I wouldnt spend that amount if I was staying for a night for my own reasons.
Hotel rooms are OK. Front desk are nice. Restaurant food was good. Good furniture. The faucets need redone and the acheat units need a bit of work. Breakfast wasnt really breakfast. Vending machines need updated with card swipes as well. The hotel is half and half. One one end you have a somewhat OK but could be better with a little bit more effort.
The Chateau was beautiful! Our 2-bed room had all the trimmings - mini fridge, coffee, comfortable A/C, nice view, cozy desk chair, etc. Slept great, had nothing but positive interactions with very friendly staff members, LOVED the pool/hot tub area, and got to explore a gorgeous castle-like building without leaving the country. 😀 Excellent overnight stay!
Hotel room was great. Very clean and comfortable. Would absolutely recommend to anyone staying in the area. However, I admit I was let down--upon booking it said that there was a sauna in the pool area, and much to my dismay I found that it was out of order during my stay. Granted I didnt book the hotel solely for the sauna, but I must admit I was excited to relax and unwind in the sauna after a long day of traveling, but unfortunately did not get to indulge in such leisurely activities. All in all though, great hotel, and would still recommend... but points removed for lack of sauna.
The service was excellent. The room was clean, but it smelled like smoke even though smoking isnt allowed in the hotel. Room was quiet. The light automatically turning on when someone got up to go to the bathroom woke others up several times. The location was excellent for where we needed to be.
Stayed at the Chateau due to going on 2 nights of power outage because of a ice storm. The room was spacious, very nice and clean. The pool was too cold for swimming however all in all a nice stay. We were also offered a special rate because of the outage. Would definitely go back.
Cheap night stay, had a pool and under 100$, would be 4 stars but air didnt work. And I had to go back to the front desk four times to get my room key to work. Was a beautiful place years ago... I didnt see it then... but you can tell she was nice. Just to let you know the key issue had nothing to do with having it near my phone it was because it was misprogrammed and the door wouldnt open, also the side door wouldnt let us in with the key card. (It had to be propped open)
I was the recruitment chair for my fraternity at Illinois State and needed a venue for an invite dinner of 65+ people. The manager was very reasonable and worked great with me to accommodate my tight budget. The servers were very diligent and courteous at dinner and the food was delicious. I would highly recommend having an event at this hotel.
Odd place with a funny smell (maybe due to the fountain in the lobby and plethora of brass bird statues). I enjoyed the kitsch (why not?) - but then they evacuated everyone in the hotel because apparently there were no working fire alarms. Oops.Pool & hot tub looked a little iffy. Attached restaurant (Tony Romas) was very nice - food was insanely salty, but the service was good.
This hotel is gorgeous! Friendly staff, nice rooms. Spacious bathrooms. Theres a gym, hot tub, and pool. Everything is sort-of Victorian style (could be wrong). Only downfall is their complementary breakfast is just like apples, certainly, muffins, and coffee. No actual hot meals. There is a restaurant attached to the hotel however that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner.
I only had a short stay (one night) but the room was very clean and had all the amenities of a more expensive hotel. The bed was comfortable and had night stands with lamps on both sides. The lobby is large and well decorated. Friendly staff. It is off the main road just a bit so you wont have to worry about street lights or sounds of traffic.I would definitely recommend to friends and would return myself. It is a STEAL for under $80. Glad I found it! Lovely place, really. The only knock against it is that the breakfast is sparse. No prepared foods such bacon or potatoes that you might typically get. Only cereal, juice, toast, a waffle maker, etc. But it does have a Tony Romos attached to it that stays open until 10pm most evenings.Oh, and they have an afternoon happy hour where you can buy hot dogs and such for just a few bucks.
Absolutely horrible the first hour i was there got accused of smoking in the room. So they send the maintenance guy down hes smells an inspects the room know one was ever smoking. The beds are very uncomfortable the refrigerator doesnt get cold. An we had coffee in the room but no coffee pot. Absolutely a horrible experience an will never return again.
I really hate to give anyone this low of a rating but overall our experience was not good. It started off fine we had a first floor room as requested but when we got into our room it was filthy and beds were not made and bathroom was very dirty. I called to the front desk and they did move our rooms but all the way to the 5th floor. We did want a 1st floor room but I didn’t complain at that point. The new room was cleaner but by no means clean. I was to worn out to complain again. Only one elevator worked in the whole hotel so it took about 20 mins to get from our room to our vehicle. Staff seemed nice and tried to accommodate but overall I probably would not go back to this dated hotel.
A far cry from the elegant place my wife and I celebrated our wedding reception 20 years ago. Place was obviously not full but my family was put in a room that had not been stayed in in a long time. Nothing worked, spiders in the tub. A real disappointment. Dont let the price fool you. You do get what you pay for. Its like a Motel 6 in a huge, huge building.
It was wonderful! The hotel is located within walkingdistance of the flat top grill and about a 5 minute drive from the mall. The rooms are a relatively decent size, adding in that the entire hotel was recently renovated. Overall Im highly pleased with my stay and will be back in the near future.
If price is your biggest concern than the Chateau can meet your needs. It is safe and centrally located, but offers little else. Its best days have to be twenty years behind it, which looks to be when it was build and last updated. From its stained exterior to its crumbling interior the entire place is just shabby. We observed a crack in the glass of the front door; broken art work in the lobby that was glued back together; missing trim in the elevator and a cracked light fixture as we got off the elevator. Our room had loose shower tiles, a broken towel rack, only two pillows on a king bed and and air conditioner that squeaked and rattled loudly every 10 minutes or so. When requesting additional pillows we had to call the front desk 4 times before someone picked up. There was trash floating in the fountain; room keys that did not open the gym door and vending machines that only worked on your third option. While none of these issues are major by itself, except the A/C issues, they all pointed to a lack of detail and putting money back into the business. I cant imagine anyone using this as a conference center, or staying more than one night, so would strongly recommend exploring other options if at all possible. I hardly ever write reviews unless we had a bad experience, so this is really more a word of caution more than a review
Easy to access, nice venue. There were some technical issues the first night. A bulb burned out in one of the overhead projectors, and they didnt have a replacement. As this was the main projector, they took the bulb from the one in the back of the room as a workaround, but this also meant that those in the back of the room couldnt see very well (the plan was to mirror the presentation at both ends of the room). That aside, everything seemed to go smoothly. Apparently, Tony Romas even prepared special replacement meals for a few vegan attendees who were given vegetarian (but not vegan) meals. This wasnt the venues mistake though; the event forgot to include a vegan option. Its was nice service of the venue to accommodate these attendees nevertheless.
For $150 a night you think there would be working heat. I found out the hard way at 1 in the morning when I woke up freezing that the heat didnt work. The lady at the front desk in the morning could have cared less and totally blew me off. Its a shame because the hotel is beautiful, but the front desk staff need a customer service 101 class asap!
It seems this place is trying to be 2 things at the same time: simultaneously upscale & affordable. They nailed the affordable bit - on a holiday weekend with AAA rates our room was around $70. At those rates its no surprise they cant keep the place like it looks like was originally intended.Approaching the hotel the exterior is interesting but the roof looks like it is in need of repair. The inside follows the same theme of tying to be well decorated but some of the upkeep is severely lacking. For example, if youre going to have a chandelier in the room the housekeeping staff needs enough time to dust them on a regular basis. Also, Id rather have decent toilet paper in the bathrooms (and not the roughest 1-ply Ive encountered outside of public school) than lovely bookshelves in the hallways filled with books not really intended to be read. The pool was HEAVILY chlorinated and grimy, & the sauna was... non-existent. We headed down for the sauna only to find an empty room where it must have been once upon a time. We decided to try out the hot tub instead despite it looking more grimy than I was comfortable with right around the hot tub area. The hot tub was instead warmish since the air coming out of the jets was cool.On the positive side - the continental breakfast, while not the best Ive ever encountered, certainly exceeded expectations. Honestly, the conditions of the place are not surprising considering the price but if Im staying at a place that inexpensive Id rather it be simpler & clean than trying to appear fancy but being a little dingy.
Great place. Rooms are beautiful and the building is very classy in apperance. Excellent service staff and plenty of amenities. One can tell that there is some ware and tear from the ages of use; however in most cases give the whole place a very charming feel. Great ambience.
Cutest hotel ever! Not ur every day hotel or inn. Especially for the amazing price. The decor, the environment, and THE STAFF were amazing. Yes, some of the reviews call the rooms “dated”. Phhhh. Shut up. Just because it isn’t modern n conformed to millennial needs... doesn’t mean it deserves a low rating. I absolutely love the decor, the room, the everything. And the staff is beyond accommodating n amazing. Super sweet n professional. This hotel is cute cute cute. We travel a lot, n this is by far one of my favorite hotels. So fun. N the restaurant THAT ALSO DOES ROOM SERVICE is awesome!!!!!!!!If ur gonna need a hotel in Bloomington, I recommend the heck outta this one.
This was a clean hotel but that is where it begins and ends ... the beds were terrible as were the pillows. The air conditioner did not work properly and the television was green. This place is in need of serious remodeling. This could be a fabulous hotel because the foundation is there.. This will be taken off my list of places to stay.
The building, especially the lobby, is beautiful but some of the other reviewers were right in saying it could use some updating. The room was a little dated, though clean and typical for the price. There was free breakfast by the way. When we looked it up it didnt say there was free breakfast.
Upon arrival, I asked the hotel clerk a general question about the breakfast buffet flyer at the front desk, she had no answers and didnt even know the even was taking place stating she never looks at what they do here. We were overall unsatisfied and left within an hour of checking in. Thankfully when we asked for our refund, the clerk that had come in was much more informed on what was going on in The hotel and he was very kind In helping us out.
While the rooms are visually appealing, they could stand for an update. The heating and air conditioning unit had no reliable form of temperature control. It was either hot or cold, no in between and the unit ran all night long. The walls are paper thin and simple things like people walking down the hall felt like they were stampeding through your room. There was a dead ladybug on the bathroom floor casting doubt as to whether or not Housekeeping actually cleaned. The towel rack was falling off the wall, and the dome that housed the chandelier was riddled with dust and cobwebs. Better care is clearly called for on the part of Housekeeping.
Attended a wedding reception at the hotel. The dining staff and conference room decor were nice enough, but it seems the hotel has a rustic feeling, but not a modern rustic touch. Also, wish other parts of the hotel had more signage to different locations, we entered one door according to a map, but the conference center was no where to be found.
The Chateau is a wonderful place to stay. There is an elegance to the rooms as well as the main areas. The one issue that my wife and I had is that the main lights in the rooms are entirely motion sensitive. So if you get up to go the bathroom in the middle of the night, you may accidentally wake up your partner.
I was there to see a presentation. I found the auditorium to be comfortable enough. Unfortunately, the speaker was drowned out by the band rehearsing for the wedding next door. The lobby was taken over by a completely different event. So I counted at least 4 different events taking place. The space was not designed to handle this. And one should not be allowed to interrupt another. The restroom I visited was clean, and the staff was polite.
We were in town for my kid brother as wedding and check in was at 3pm and the wedding was at 4 but the groomsman had to be there at 3:30 I went to the counter to check in promptly at 3pm and the lady said hold on and she went and grabbed her purse and left for shift change. The new counter lady said can you give me a second to get organized since I just got in and I said no problem. Now mind you there were 10 people waiting behind me to get checked in. I stood at the counter and the lady made a phone call to her manager and told him that none of the rooms had been cleaned from the previous night. Come to find out the first lady I encountered knew about this and did nothing instead she left promptly when her shift ended terrible customer service. The hotel has seen better days its unkempt and dingy in a lot of the common areas. I will say however the manager refundednus $50 for each room for the hassle. I ask those in management to really consider the condition of your hotel lets bring it back to its former glory and make it the best hotel in Bloomington.

2022-06-04I highly recommend The Chateau. It was perfect for our nieces’ baby shower last weekend. Everything was taken care of. The food was delicious, the service was great, and all we had to do was come in and add our shower decor. The room was set up exactly as I requested, and I couldn’t be happier. Thank you to Britney for making this day go smoothly. I have received nothing but compliments since and owe a great deal of that to her. I made all of the arrangements by phone from out of state and Britney was incredibly responsive. She sent me pictures of available rooms and catering choices, and always responded to questions and requests very quickly. I might add, she accommodated every request that I made. I hope the owners at The Chateau appreciate what a wonderful representative they have in you. Very well done!

2022-06-17At the time of this review the hotel is undergoing renovations and is pretty rough. However, you can see hints if its former glory everywhere you look. We have travelled extensively in the US and some international and the two gentlemen at the front desk (check in and check out….sorry didn’t catch their names) provided customer service up there with the best of any hotel at any price point. I hope it can regain its former glory but until then at least you can expect service in line with its reputation from back in the day.

2022-03-01The website did not let us know that the queen rooms dont have a fridge or microwave. Hotel check-in lady treated us as if it was an inconvenience to assist us. After one day, the hotel staff was able to switch our rooms and help us out. Hotel staff exceptionally pleasant after the first night. Hot breakfast on weekends was worth the stay. I love this hotel.

2022-05-04The Chateau Bloomington isn’t your normal commercial hotel where you stay a night, shower, have breakfast and leave. I overheard a sweet couple saying 25 years ago they celebrated their honeymoon at the Chateau. They came back after all those years— maybe their stay was a good omen for the happy couples future. It may look like a castle upon entry, but feels like home thanks to the wonderful staff. I was helped by Julie, Britney and Yaw; each of them made my stay extra special. I felt like the king of the castle... or Chateau. They are currently under renovations— I can only imagine how the improvements will enhance the Chateau Castle. Thanks again to the staff! See you in 25 years!

2022-02-27Overall nice. Bit dated but I think this gives the place charm. Staff mostly friendly. The only thing is they ran out of that hot breakfast they promised and the kitchen staff was not in a hurry to get some more for the rest of the guests. They had a well its not my fault kinda attitude. I dont think they prepared well for the evens the town was hosting. Several state championships were taking place. With wrestling being one of them so ofcourse these wrestlers vacuumed up all the food.

2022-06-08I had to change rooms 4 times during my initial check-in. The first room had no linens on the bed. In the second room, the AC blower didnt work. The third room did not have cable. Finally, the fourth room was usable. The window in the 4th room didnt open, which is a fire hazard. The microwave and mini-fridge are plugged into a three plug, 3 foot extension cord. Not designed for that kind of current. AND the pool and hot tub are closed. WHICH, I had planned to use and was a reason for booking this location. It is not listed on your website as out of service. This is a very distressed property.

2022-06-21Positive: The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly. Negative: The outside of the hotel had construction gear strewn about the outside of the building and the room had a loud A/C and holes in the soap dish in the shower. Our room had dirty wash cloths on the shower certain rod. Lots of potential though!

2022-05-05Had a pleasant stay here when I came to Bloomington for a surprise birthday party. Elyse was AWESOME, excellent customer service. She arranged for an early check in, and let me know a suite was available when it wasnt showing up with the online booking service I originally used. She also recommendeda great Mexican place for lunch where the tacos and margaritas were fantastic. 5 star customer service. The hotel was going through renovations so there was some construction going on, but otherwise it was clean and nice, would recommend staying here

2022-06-02Booked this hotel via Priceline for one night. Rate here was comparable to the Marriott rate we would have received if the block of rooms for our event werent all booked! Location was perfect as our event was 10 mins away. Attendant who checked us in was a hoot and friendly. Made us feel welcomed. We booked a double room for 3 adults and there was plenty of room for three sisters but it was too warm. Air conditioning may have been broken.

2022-04-24Best location to stay, the front desk was really helpful. They gave me an early check in upon request. Rooms were big with clean carpets. It had gym, best buy and restaurants at walkable distance. Would definitely recommend to stay there.
