The last thing I want to do in the review is get any of the employees at this location in trouble as I believe our issues stemmed from lack of training and knowledge for the staff. With that said, if I had to do this transaction all over again I definitely wouldve gone with another CarMax location. The employees were genuinely nice, and that’s what the two stars are for. The process was a nightmare…. Lack of knowledge, incorrect information on documents, taking hours and hours to process transactions. Everyone from sales, to the sales manager, to the appraiser, to the business office, and whoever handles the loan transactions made some sort of error… from beginning to end it was a drawn out painful experience. They offered a $100 expense reimbursement for dinner for our troubles… which they didn’t have to do that, so again the people were nice, but just inexperienced, poorly trained, and lack of knowledge.
I recently had my first experience with Carmax. I traded in one car and sold them another. I have never had such a smooth and pleasant experience with a car dealership. The staff was friendly and helpful and for both of my vehicles they offered me a few thousand dollars more than CarGurus and a couple other dealerships.
I was able to do 95% of what I needed online. I was unsure of what I was doing so I had to make a few call to Carmax. Each time someone was able to guide me. I was sent texts with information and links for me to review when I was ready.I did my trade in assessment online and it matched when I brought in my car.I requested a specific car and it was transferred from another location within a couple of days. Carmax accommodated my need to wait a few days. I also was given an itemized cost over the phone and it matched the amount that was on the final paperwork,On the date of trade/purchase, I gave them my car & I took the car I was interested in for a test drive. When I returned we completed the paperwork. There were no surprises or hidden costs.Thank you Carmax for taking the time to explain everything and not pressure me. Ms. Perez 2/2022
It went NOTHING like I was told it was going to go. And you guys should NOT be offering online appraisals if you do not honor them. I listed everything wrong with my car and still got $300 less than what I was originally offered. Employees were RUDE! And showed no empathy whatsoever. Cried at the end of it. Will never return. Gratitude.
Jay really stepped up and helped me a lot, I bought a Tesla from CarMax and it didn’t come with a second key, adapter to charge, and the actual charger but after talking to Jay he got it straight the next day and got me the adapter and charger(ordering a key) and even went above and beyond and offered me lunch. I understand how new Teslas are so I wasn’t mad but he made sure I was really happy and loved my experience. I cannot thank him enough for getting me straight.
This place is amazing! people are very friendly. hands down to the service advisors and to the mangers. i bought a car at carmax recently and a week after i noticed the tire wasnt good. they replace it for me for free. they were quick on taking care of it. on top of that l, they replace my wipers too and make sure my windshield fluid was good. i even tried to give them a tip but they wont accept it which i understand. i really appreciate the work and effort they did to my car. again, thank you so much for the car service people who work on my car. im very happy and feels much safer driving the car with better tires.
I had been pre-approved over the phone with an agent they then set me up with the store that was closest to my house which was Oak Lawn at the Oak Lawn store I was greeted promptly the salesman was very helpful and courteous, his name was Gardner Id definitely recommend 👌
I would like to announce that Im very pleased with the transaction of selling my car to Carmax. I was able to get a quote online and in all actuality I received more when I went to the dealership. The finance team did a great job of communication with my initial finance company for a payoff and I was in and out of the dealership in 2hrs. Which in car buying/selling times is VERY fast!!!
Had a great experience up until today. I had test drove 2 cars about a month ago. The guy I dealt with said as long as someone in the car has insurance it is fine. I went back today because I felt I finally found the car for me but suddenly they are asking all these questions, asking for my cell phone number that I dont usually give out and then was told that I couldnt test drive this car because I, myself dont have insurance. I havent had a car for 2 years, they actually bought my old one, why would I have insurance. My insurance man said he couldnt sell me insurance until I had a car to insure. I gave them a page with what my insurance would be for that car and my brother-in-law who was with me the last two times was there with his insurance. But they said I, the person who was buying the car couldnt test drive it because I was not covered under his policy. So that is kind of a catch 22, you cant even test drive a car without insurance but, yet the last two times it was fine? Did something happen between the last time and now? They didnt seem to care either that they lost a sale of $15,000. Very disappointed. I was hoping to give myself a nice Christmas present, but I guess not. I didnt even have to go on the street. There are two connecting parking lots I could have tried the car in. Sadly, this kind of put a bad vibe for me with Carmax.
CarMax is responsible for the single worst customer experience of my life. I tried to schedule a delivery 4 times. 3 of those 4 times it was cancelled within an hour of the scheduled delivery. Each cancellation was accompanied by a new explanation about how the paperwork wasnt done or right or even possible given delivery. On the 4th try I had scheduled and confirmed a noon appointment on a Saturday. I called three times to confirm the time and was sent to a voicemail. On the fourth call, I called and asked for a manager. They then contacted the delivery team on my behalf and informed me that I was not assigned a concierge. I kept calling back for updates because my trust in CarMaxs ability to communicate or follow through with any of the many promises made was in the toilet. When I finally got the delivery person on the phone, they had me sign the same contract I had signed three previous times--once EARLIER THAT DAY. All the while the texting communication was maddeningly inane and bureaucratic and useless. I had no idea who I was talking to at any given point and no one knew what was going on, but they insisted on texting me or calling with me, even though it was absolutely pointless to do so. I bothered to count it up for my own sanity--I spent almost four hours on the phone with different CarMax employees. MOST of that was repeating information I had already told a different person who, apparently, couldnt, or didnt, write it down anywhere. I scheduled a deliver on Dec 11. I received my car on Dec 18 after many failed attempts. The noon delivery arrived at 5:15pm that evening, forcing me to cancel plans. CarMaxs internal communication is absolute garbage--no one I talked to knew what anyone else was doing. AVOID. AVOID. AVOID. Try Carvana? They seem nice.
I purchased a vehicle that only came with one key. They assured me their service department would reach out and provide the other. No one reached out and when I called (three separate times) they said they couldnt program a key and I have to contact the car dealership.
Purchased a 2014 GMC Terrain with 39k miles on it on Jan 2018. The car stopped running on April 13. The engine blew. I was told I should have purchased an extended warranty and there is nothing they can do for me. I have to continue paying for a car that doesnt run. Meanwhile, my mother who drives a Sentra she bought in Oklahoma has 97,000 miles on her car and never an engine problem and my husbands Chrysler 200 (which we purchased used with 50,000 miles on it from Midway Dodge) has 96,000 miles on and never had a engine problem. Im so distraught over it. Dont buy a car from Carmax.
I will like to say the General Manager(Greg Szarzynski)at this location have a very bad attitude. I requested to speak with the general manager and upon his approach Greg Szarynski was very nasty, frowning his face, and showed no concern. He told me if I didn’t like what he was saying I can take my business elsewhere. Very unprofessional, no leadership displayed towards his sales team. I would never want anyone to feel the way I did.
This is a review of the vehicle-selling process. I started the process online, they sent a quote immediately to my email. I made an appointment for the next day (today). When I arrived, they took my keys and inspected and it was over. They offered the exact amount on my quote...no low-balling, no nitpicking, or asking a bunch of questions. My vehicle still had payments, so all I had to do is sign a few papers, paid the difference of what I owed ($64), and I was DONE. It was a very pleasant experience and a weight off my shoulders.
Added mileage to my truck now I cant get a decent trade in! Took my truck in to sale with 120k miles on it they came back with a low ball offer of 700 saying my truck had over 200k miles !!! Whatever they did it now follows my truck! When the Vin is ran it now shows over 200k on it. Do not take your vehicle to sell they will scam you then tattoo your vehicle with whatever miles they see fit! This place hurt the value of my vehicle.
I can definitely say I loved my visit to CarMax. Everyone was extremely nice and the process of getting my car wasn’t easy but the associates helped me every step of the way. They work with all types of people in different situations find something that will fit for them. And as for my experience they definitely did a great job and I love the car I drove off the lot with.
I was very disappointed with the service I received. I would not recommend this Location to anyone for the purchase of a vehicle. I was pleased with the vehicle I bought just not the service. The representative who waited on me and its a shame I cant remember his name ran my credit report across-the-board.I had explained to him that I had already done my research and new 3 credit agencies I wanted to go with that has already pre approved me, Bank of America, Capital One had approve me as well, I had already purchase a motorcycle from American Credit Acceptance with ontime payment history so there was no need to run my credit report across-the-board! Now I have 12 unnecessary reports in my history!Not a good way to do business...
I purchased a car with about 5,000 miles on it only to be told by a Kia dealership 6 days after purchase that the transmission must be replaced. The experience has made me question whether Carmax truly does a thorough inspection prior to sell. Ive spent most of the Xmas/NY holidays without a car. Im working with the Oak Lawn IL dealer while considering whether to return under the 30 day money back guarantee or obtain a replacement vehicle. I have a car being transferred to Oak Lawn and had asked for a walk-around inspection and assessment for any title issues prior to transfer, but did not get an adequate response. The original vehicle which now needs a new transmission had title issues which delayed purchase. Want to avoid that this time. Well see if they can smooth this process and remedy whats been an incredibly disappointing experience.
It’s always a great experience with CarMax. I purchased at CarMax in oak lawn in 2008 and I just recently came back to trade in that car I bought in 2008. I rode out with a new car with all the bells and whistles that I wanted. And guess what Brad B was excellent and patient with me! I came in knowing what I wanted and he delivered excels t service. Thanks Brad B and CarMax hopefully it won’t be another 12 to 13 years before I see you all again, but I’m pretty sure I’ll be back. Great service everyone! Great laughs. And great energy.
Great experience from the first phone made to schedule our appointment to sell our vehicle. We were taken care of immediately, everyone was super friendly and helpful and the best part, we got a great price for our truck! THANK YOU! The whole process from start to finish was easy and stress free. Highly recommend!
My experience at carmax in Oaklawn was so wonderful and such a different vibe than other dealers. Mostly because we had a great salesman Brad! He was so nice and helpful and only wanted what was best for me! I would 10/10 recommend going to Brad for anything you need help with !
This was a surprisingly decent experience. If they were just a little faster with the appraisals. After the acceptance it appears the cashier are quick with their process but the additional slow down was waiting for them to remove and hand over your plates. We offered to remove them but was told we had to wait another hour for that final stage.
WORST & UNPROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE -Sadly to say i would never do business with CarMax in Oak Lawn, IL again. I had a pleasant experience with one salesman and went back to sell my second vehicle to only get an IGNORANT salesman who never introduced himself, then i waited patiently until i had a family emergency and explained to him i had to leave he walked away and LOUDLY said “IMPATIENT” “IMPATIENT” “IMPATIENT” repeatedly from one side to the room to the other whereas i can hear him even outside the first set of doors leaving just to HUMILIATE me because i had to leave in front of my daughter and other customers - NO PROFESSIONALISM at all -
I had an amazing experience. After dealing with another car dealership that I had a horrible experience. CarMax swooped in and made me feel like they wanted to assist. I was thoroughly happy me and my wife both enjoyed our sales rep. Professional very courteous as well and the process was not long as well!
I would say that the 3 stars made it average for our experience. My wife Val and I made an appointment for 3pm to sell her car at your location and it started off fine. We knew that it was going to be busy because of it being on a Friday. We waited for about 30 minutes for someone to come out and appraise our car which wasnt bad, but them they told us that someone will be right out to bring us the appraisal quote in 15 minutes. However that didnt happen and about 40 minutes later I called inside and stated that we are still waiting in our car. They said that they apologize and will send someone out soon. Another 15 minutes later I walked inside and asked if I can speak to someone about whats going on. they all looked confused as to what I was talking about and couldnt locate who we originally talked to. Eventually they had a sales associate talk to us, printed the quote and started the process. Overall it took us over 3 and a half hours to get the process stated. We had our 1 year old daughter in the car and that was a task in itself. We fully understand that due to covid we had to wait outside but it shouldnt have taken that long. I think I was more upset when I asked whats next that everyone looked at me confused and didnt know what to do. What if I didnt come inside? How much longer would we have been sitting out in the car waiting for someone to come out?We really appreciate the purchase of our car but being first time customers it really look bad in our eyes to either come back or recommend someone to check out CarMax.
Dont have options for people with a low budget. The person I spoke to on the phone had terrible customer service skills. Didnt even ask who they were speaking too. Kept calling me by my dead name instead of starting the phone call with hey my name is so and so who may I be speak with it today it was hey my name is Im looking for this person and as soon as I said yes they didnt even let me take the time to correct them. Instead they went on about the loan and what I got approved for and they will look for cars. When they got done giving me their speal I finally took the time to correct them. He gave me the excuse well it says this on here. Which is correct but with it being 2021 there should be a box for preferred name. Unfortunately I have not gotten my name legally changed. So I have to keep using my deadname. I dont see any need to move forward with a loan when theres nothing in my area. As I do not want to pay for shipping fees
Outstanding Salesman in Mark Landingham. I have been buying cars for over 45years, I have never met such a salesperson of his caliber. He knows the product. He anticipated my needs. Wasnt pushy or overly aggressive. List to my concerns and addressed them in a timely manner. Him and his manager Jeff was and will be the main reason I will be returning to CarMax to purchase a car for my daughter on her 16th birthday.

MY PROBLEM WITH CAR-MAX IS LIKE MY PROBLEM WITH ALL DEALERSHIPS; I THOUGHT I WAS COMING INTO THE CAR-MAX STORE AND GETTING A CHECK FOR $29,400. IT JUST TOOK TOO LONG.................. BUT, I WILL AGREE TO PRESENT ANY OTHER CUSTOMER WITH MY OPINION; AND AGREE TO TELL THE CUSTOMER WHAT TO BRING INTO THE STORE, SO THEY DONT SPEND A FEW HOURS OF WASTED TIME. For the first time I actually enjoyed my car buying experience. Everything was stress free, easy processing and quick, even with the car coming from a different state. I saw what I wanted, connected with the needed staff, went through financing and pick up my car a week later. LOVED IT!!!

CarMax made my life so much easier! The whole process was quick, easy, and painless! Even with a pandemic going on, they still managed to create a safe, clean, and sanitized environment and I was able to purchase my vehicle with no problem. I wasn’t there for no more than an hour and my sales representative, Jose was amazing! I had so many questions throughout my car buying process and he answered them all and was super patient and helpful. I will forever get all my cars through them!
Worst experience I have ever been a part of buying a car. The place is trash, from John Spano to the corporate office. Jeff the manager is so apologetic but low on resolution to make a clear unhappy customer feel better about what was a rushed, low quality experience. They destroyed me taking possession of a dream car by how they handled a vehicle I was forced to pay $1600 to have shipped to my city. Have the lowest standards in the industry for cars they are calling “Certified” that has bald tires on it and to top it off they don’t even have the decency to clean a car before they give it too you & we’re in a pandemic with infectious disease running the country. Wow! Was this bad!!!!
When I got there I was told it was to late to sell my car. But prior to coming I called and asked before heading that way. I was told we close at 9 and as long as your there before that your fine. I got there at 8:20 and stood in the line to speaxk.with someone for 10 minutes and when I got to the window I was told its to late we stop taking people at 8:30 and I replied its 8:29 not 8:30. Even the lady who was supposed to be the manager said they couldnt take me. But after awhile a you lady decided to take me since I was already there.
I will recommend. They were so nice and helpful. Before running my credit I was asked what I was looking for and they gathered all of my information and let me know what I was going to be approved for. They inspect everything on the vehicle and have great warranty options. I love my Truck!!
Went to purchase a car today, and utilized the curb-side pick up. I will say this was thee best car buying experience “ever”. My sales rep was Brad Butts. He was very professional, he listened to my needs, and handled everything. By utilizing the Curbside pick up and by Brad understanding. That I wanted this process to be complete in no less than an hour and a half. I will tell you. I was out of there within an hour and 20 minutes. Granted, I did do the curbside and picked the car online already. I used the car call center which is very helpful. ( just call the dealer number and they pick up to assist you) They also help me figure out what type of car I would like it. They was very patient with me with while helping me pick online. They insured that all of the documentation. I needed was uploaded and sent directly to the dealer already so when I got there the process was smooth. Brad, was able to help me test drive the vehicle and finish the final sign off on all documentation. Brad, had me out of there in less than an hour and a half. The car was test drive, washed , and filled up with gas all in that time frame! What type of car buying experience can give you that!!! 😃Go to CarMax, and ask for Brad Butts you will not be disappointed!
I had a great experience with this CarMax in Oak Lawn. The staff here are so friendly and professional. I worked with Sharman and Bard and they were both wonderful. They made the trade in very easy and I got a great quote. I got a great Jeep that’s 4WD for a great price. Thanks guys!
I bought a car from here April last year and the transmission had to get replaced at 50k miles on a 2016 Nissan Altima SR and it was 3 months after I bought the car. The process to try to get an appointment was very frustrating as well. I called the store and said I have a trans problem and my car can not be driven. They said the next appointment was in a month and I asked for a rental or something So I can go to work and they said no and they would have to see the problem first. I later then got a ride to the store and had to basically annoy them to get them to look at my car because I needed to go to work and it doesnt drive! The lady seemed annoyed that I wanted my car fixed and I wouldnt wait like other people. She then called a Nissan dealer after I got on her about it and had an attitude because again I had the car for 3 months and wanted my car fixed. The second incident happened recently when I had a test drive appointment and the whole experience was horrible. I walked in and I gave them my name and the sales rep took me to sit down but never Introduced himself! I went to go test drive and they had to go get the car for some reason. You would think for a scheduled test drive the car would be clean and ready... that was not the case. I talked to a representative named AJ over the phone and said the car was clean before I went. The cars back left tire was at 15 PSI and the car smelled like smoke. As I drove it the brakes made a clunk sound and I went back and said all the problems and all I kept getting from the sales rep who never gave his name and I had to later find his name in an email he sent and his name was Sami I believe who knows if thats him and I see he has a couple bad reviews on here as well! All I kept getting from my feedback about the car was oh we can fix that no thanks I want the car I buy to be clean and no problems off the lot. Lastly After I gave the feedback he seemed to be mad that I was pointing out the negatives about the car and just changed the subject and said okay what other car did you want to see he went to get the car and obviously looked upset. He got the car and came back and when I test drove it the brakes again made sounds and I came back and walked inside and saw the chair and computer I was at Had new customers! Also he was nowhere to be found and there was a line at the front desk with no workers checking people in and I just handed the keys to somebody because I wasnt going to stand around and wait.
I went to CarMax to sell my vehicle. I had gotten a pre-estimate over the internet from them. When I arrived I was greeted promptly and my assigned appointment time was met. They reviewed my cars condition and after about 1/2 hour lived up to the internet estimate. The entire process was professional and fast!
I bought my first car from Carnax this past weekend with the wonderful help from Travis. I wasn’t exactly sure on what I wanted, but he was able to help me through and find a car that had all the features I was looking for. Travis was knowledgeable and patient and I can tell he actually was there to help me.
Our sales rep, Sharman, was excellent. She was very communicative and answered all of our questions, and she followed up our visit with several calls explaining the process of getting the vehicle we wanted shipped to the local store. On the day we came to pick it up, she had everything in order and processed us for a test drive and completing the paperwork quickly.Then everything fell apart once the finance department took their turn. My fiancée and I sat at Sharman’s desk, while she repeatedly apologized, for almost 3 HOURS, while our paperwork went through the final steps. Finally, when the finance rep came over, she said that she had been at lunch and no one else took care of our paperwork. It was a miserable end to an otherwise easy process and left a very bad taste in our mouths for CarMax.
My car buying experience with THIS CARMAX is starting off super wrong. I paid 449.00 for a transfer of a car that I was suppose to receive on the 19th of May.Come to find out that carmax does not have the title for a car. So a rep at CarMax told me two weeks for a title to come. Two weeks has came and gone.No Communication no transparency.Also I was not told by the rep that CarMax will be running my credit with multiple loan institutions.Now I have 6 enquiries on my credit for 2 years.I will be taking other actions in this matter. I was not notified nor did I authorise such.
My family and I received a warm greeting at the Oak Lawn facility. This was followed by John (Sales Consultant) explaining to us the process for an appraisal in a friendly, professional manner.The experience was capped by the Business Office detailing the remaining steps in the process...well done, CarMax, Oaklawn!!!
Choosing CarMax to purchase a Vehicle was the wisest decision I couldve made! The entire experience from start to finish was very professional and smooth! My salesperson was very attentive and made sure I was provided all details I needed to finalize my purchase! I purchased a 2015 Chevrolet Equinox and I LOVE This Vehicle! It is everything that I need and expected! Very Clean and rides so smooth and quite roomy! I Highly Recommend CarMax As The place to make your purchase!!!
If I could leave no stars I would. Worse car buying experience I have ever went through. No exaggeration. I heard semi good things about this location and thought I would give it a try. But now I see that I should have went with my first mind. No one is on the same page, I literally received different information from each representative I talked with. Unprofessional as ever. Tacky as ever. It’s a recorded line, I wish I had the recordings for proof. I scheduled home delivery on January 27th. Here it is February 1st, and vehicle still isn’t here. It was rescheduled once again. If you all don’t have the access for home delivery, why even have it as an option. Every excuse has been used, short staffing, the delivery driver didn’t show up on time, snowed in & etc. I’m trading in my vehicle for a new. I honestly feel as if they are purposely trying to wait for the appraisal to expire once again. Yes, it has expired once. Had to re-do all type of information. I see no purpose in steady asking me what works best for me, if you keep calling me last minute trying to reschedule. Tell me what works best for you then. They also keep asking the same damn questions, so no one is obviously notating important information. Or passing judgement on me and find the answers hard to believe, nevertheless I’m over it. So at this point, I will not be doing business with CarMax oak lawn location. I don’t recommend business being done with CarMax oak lawn location. Especially if it’s a chance for your experience to be anything like mine.
The overall experience was frustrating. I paid for one car to be transported up from another state, finding out that the odometer reading on the car and the car title were completely different. Then, I had another car transferred from Wisconsin that literally took 7 days. The second car did arrived finally. Part of the final sale, I wanted a new battery installed, which delayed me from picking it up, since the battery was never ordered in a timely manner.
Ive been car searching for a month. I was very detailed and precise on what I wanted. I searched through a lot of name brand dealerships but Carmax was my first and last choice. Not only did I find the exact vehicle I wanted, but it was transferred from another location to the one I was at, for free. I love that. They told me when my vehicle was shipped and when it had arrived in less than 3 days. When I arrived I was in and out in less than 1.5hrs. They let me test drive the vehicle on my own and when I came back the paper work was a breeze. They explained the extended warranty I purchased what it covered, my gap insurance and so forth. I have never been this happy. When I bought my chevy From the chevy dealership, it took about 5 hrs to complete everything and it took about 30 minutes for someone to acknowledge us. I was acknowledged as soon as we stepped through the door and was test driving my vehicle is less than 10 minutes from walking in. Great variety of vehicles, great prices, and great customer service.
When you go see Jaime Serna. Exactly what you want from someone who is selling you a car. I was at Toyota dealership earlier in the day and walked out because sales people we’re too pushy. Not the case with Jaime. He answered all my questions, knew what he was talking about. Can’t say enough.Highly recommend him and oak lawn carmax.
This was ABSOLUTELY the most horrible experience I have ever had in purchasing a vehicle. I have NEVER spent 3.5 hours in a dealership, especially when EVERYTHING was done prior to. I signed up for curbside pickup which was supposed to be seamless.....NOT. After my ordeal today, I can honestly say that i dont think I will NEVER purchase another vehicle from Carmax. They didnt wash my car (stated it was frozen) but what does that have to do with the inside as that wasnt cleaned either. No one showed me how to use any of the features. I had to You-Tube on how to open glove box to make sure the owners manual was in there. After spending all that money on a vehicle, I had to take somewhere else to get detailed....YES, same day that i purchased. This was my 4th vehicle from Carmax but this time there was no pic with me, the big yellow ribbon and my new vehicle. I can say this has been the most unorganized and disappointing experience Ive ever had with purchasing a car. I will definitely be writing a letter to the corporate office.
I was lucky when I walked in an met Bill M. My salesman. Had a great experience. From the time I walked in until the time I purchased my car he walked me through everything. Answered all my questions & if I called him & left a message he would call me back immediately. Even after the sales was completed he gave me his card & told me if I still had some question to call him. Hes the Best!

My experience was horrible. The first person I spoke with was Delores and she spelled my name wrong, and said she would fix it when I corrected her, she and never did. My name is Ramon not Raymond!!! Then she didn’t include the fact that I was getting an appraisal when she ran my financing app, so it had to be ran again. Then when I went to pick up the car, Charles’ attitude was as if I was bothering him the entire time. As if he was mad he had to be there helping me. I asked him for clarification on something, and he actually said to me “if it was on here, I wouldn’t have just asked you”. Like who says that to a customer? I had to stop the process and ask him, “do we have a problem or something...?” Totally unprofessional service from him. The sole bright spot was Aaliyah Cooley who fixed what Delores did, and she was very pleasant to speak with. However, overall this was a horrible, and unprofessional experience.
The sale of my care went about as smooth as it could have. It included needing paperwork sent to another store out of state so the cosigner of my car loan to sign the paperwork to finalize the sale. They stood by their original quote and I was extremely satisfied with the general experience.

I am waiting for another car to replace the one that I have which is due to come in on Tuesday the 27th of this month. I hope that it will get here sooner, as I am having to put air in one of the tires on a daily basis. I stopped to have a tire service put air in and was told the tire was too low and that I would have to purchase a new tire. It’s difficult for me to think after spending so much money for a car I would have to put air in the tires daily. I was told that I could use a new set of tires, that these would be OK for a while. In addition the car smells as though it’s 20 years old, and I have never had an experience like this with Carmax. Carmax has always been very good in this area that’s why it is so surprising to find these problems. If there’s anyway that the car will get to the Chicago location sooner Or if it is at a closer location that I can pick it up, whatever I can do to speed up this process. I must admit every aspect of this process has been excellent with the exception of the car itself.
I recently sold my car through CarMax. Everything was done so efficiently. I got a good price on my appraisal online, I brought it to the physical location, and in about 30 minutes I was done. I highly recommend to anyone who selling their car or looking for a trade-in.
Very friendly people. My car sales person Tamara was great she did all she needed to do to make sure I got my car. I don’t have good credit but, I got a very reasonable down payment that was affordable and a good monthly payment. I highly recommended Car Max to anyone especially first time buyers like myself. ☺️
My experience was just ok. I scheduled an appointment however the rep scheduled it for December and not November. We had to wait more than 20 minutes for a rep but as we waited there were a number of sales agents standing around. It wasnt until I asked them if they were agents that one agreed to help. Once I said what truck I wanted the agent brought the truck but offered no instruction on how to operate a push button start. Maybe obvious to some but not all. Once the sale was made I had to ask for the yellow ribbon as celebration. Seemed to lack enthusiasm.
CarMax is amazing! I bought my first car from this location back in 2010 and this past Saturday (12/22) my husband and I went back and traded in that car for a new car. Maria was amazing!! From the moment we sat down with her until we left it was like chatting with an old friend. She gave us all of the information we needed and made recommendations when we werent sure what to do. She never pushed anything on us and always gave us all of our options. The whole process was wonderful and we drove away in our brand new car. My husband and I were both like kids on Christmas we were so excited!!Thank you Maria for your dedication to your work, not just as an employee at CarMax but also as a nurse. We were so lucky to work with you that day :)
Here is what I’ve observed after sitting in this location for nearly 6 hours...... There is absolutely no supportive help for the car dealers, I witnessed Managers and customer service agents not actually helping. Tamara the associate who sold me my car was very diligent in her efforts to get me out the dealership, this was a pointless effort when she had no help! She had to go get my car take a look at my trade in take me for my test drive etc why aren’t there runners who can do those tedious things!? The more assistance the more sales! Team work makes the dream work! It also took FOREVER for someone to come out and sign the paperwork with me. They also lost the keys to the car I purchased which Tamara had to go find but why!? There should have been someone in the office who can go run around while the sales associates are SAILING. From the start things were off to a delayed start. I couldn’t help but be frustrated with the waiting mainly because it was preventable. I only returned to this location because I purchased My car here nearly 10 years ago and I bought my husband here for his car 3 years ago. This will be my very last visit. The service (or lack there of) was not the same it’s no way I should have been in this dealership from 10am to 2:44 I am STILL sitting here as I post this review. There needs to be a better process this one isn’t working, it’s no way I would refer anyone here after this experience I would be embarrassed to have anyone go through this. Once a bad taste is out in a consumers mouth it’s very difficult to regain their trust.Oh and did I mention they denied my request for new tires 😐 I’m done here........ still here it’s 2:55.
Their social distancing practices are great!..Nice clean environment. However their sales tactics are not so great!..It appears they say whatevers necessary to make the sale, which could cost you greatly in the long run. They also neglected to provide all available options. I would rather paid my first car payment within a week...versus 45 days later which resulted in 90% of my first payment going towards interest...only 10% went towards the actual cost of the vehicle...geesh!..
Easy way to sell a car. Staff was helpful and courteous, and took care of all my questions. It was a few simple steps for the car to be reviewed, an offer given to me, and the sale to be finalized. And all this was done in a smart, socially-distanced way. So important in this time of COVID-19.
Overall, not happy with my experience. Doesnt seem like theyre very good at communicating with each other, and they definitely arent good with communicating with customers.Apparently appointments made online arent being honored, as per the text message I received from my sales person Sami.They arent allowing test drives, which is strange because Ive been to 3 other dealerships and all of them allowed self-guided test drives where the car was sanitized before and after the drive. All they did was photocopy my license and let me know if anything happens my car insurance is required to cover it.The worst part though was when my salesperson, Sami, just stopped responding me. I wasnt happy with my initial financing terms so he suggested I might get better terms with a co-signer. I told him I would think about and he said to call him back on Monday (we were speaking on Saturday right before close, and theyre closed on Sundays).He called me Monday but I was working and was intending to call him on my lunch break. Well, I called him twice, left him a voicemail, and sent him two emails. I even responded to an email from someone named Shamarri. They emailed to let me know that my car had been transferred and was waiting for me at this location. I responded saying I was waiting for Sami to get back to me. I even tried calling the Oak Lawn location to speak to literally anyone else, but had to hang up because I had to get back to work and couldnt spend forever on hold. Still nothing from Sami, no response at all.Finally, I just went ahead and submitted a new pre-approval application with my co-signer in hopes that another, more communicative salesperson would reach out to me. After I receive the automated text saying that we were pre-approved, I havent heard a thing.I dont think that I should have to jump through hoops to get a hold of someone that I want to give money/business to. Honestly Ive worked with CarMax in the past I was super happy with them. Maybe its just this location or maybe its just my salesperson. I dont know.The only reason Im giving this place 2 stars is because of the guy who appraised my car. I believe his name was Chris. He was super nice, and efficient at his job. He was the only positive part of my experience with this location.
Everyone treated with respect and patience. Helped me to understand each step as I purchased my car. The service department helped me to obtain a missing piece I needed to operate the Navigation of the car and they service person did it quickly and called me when the item came in and offered to FedEx to me overnight which she did. Great experience
I loved the ease of finding my car. The car was transferred from another location without any hassle and it took no time! My salesman was patient, friendly, and easy to talk to.I did NOT enjoy the financing portion of the experience. I had no problem with getting financing. When I had to bring in the proof of employment, I felt as if I were treated like a criminal or thief. I was asked questions about where I printed the pay stubs, and other things that seemed odd. I even pulled up the stubs on the Carmax computer. The manager even suggested I have my company MAIL a copy of my pay stub. The company is based on the EAST COAST! It would have taken over a week due to the holiday, etc. We worked past that. When I finally started to sign the final paperwork, I was made to sign some papers 3 to 4 TIMES! I was told that my signature doesnt look exactly like my drivers license. My signature is my signature! It hasnt changed. I pulled out credit cards, etc with all of the same signatures; to no avail. I dont know what your standard operating procedure is, but this put a dark cloud on my purchase. I do love my car. I would refer people to the company. But maybe not to the Oak Lawn, IL location.
Had an appointment for 8pm to test drive a car that was shipped in. I arrived at this car max and had to find someone to assist me. After I asked an employee to check us in we sat down for 50 plus minutes and no one ever checked up on us. Employees were standing around talking, yet never came to assist us. I was very disappointed in their service. How are you suppose to buy a car here if they didn’t want to sell to us?

Third vehicle purchased through CARMAX. easy transaction. Only MAJOR issue was that the vehicle I bought only had less than a 1/4 tank of gas. Youd figure for the amount of money is spent. Theyd at LEAST throw in a full tank.Spoke to my sales rep about it; said hed speak to his manager. Two weeks later; still waiting.

It was good but took a long time to finally drive out the door.This time I found my car online and a sales rep worked with me to get it transferred, provided me with test drive (as they all should) and took a couple of pics for me with the car. The sales rep worked with me and was really helpful. This was a good experience.
I have to say that this was the best car buying experience I have ever had! My salesman David was very friendly and I felt very comfortable selecting the car I really wanted. I was able to test drive two cars that I had narrowed it down to. The numbers process was also very easy as they actually show you on their screen the payments and interest you qualify for. Way better than at an actual dealership where they go to the back room or talk to a manager. Once all was said and done, the rest of the paperwork took about 30 minutes to finish. From start to finish was about 2 hours. I would highly recommend Carmax as a place to buy a car. Just do your research on the car and price you want to pay and you will leave with a great deal!

The initial sale process was fun and easy, but it got a little sticky when I was ready to review concerns raised by my personal mechanic. The service team was awesome after we worked out the glitches with my courtesy privileges between the initial 7-day money back guaranty period.
Well my experience started with a phone call to CarMax. My Intrepid was officially diagnosed junk by the mechanic who originally said I needed a $200 hose. I then made a call to CarMax to see if by any chance they have the car I was looking for in their lot in Oak Lawn. The guy told me yes you have several of the Honda Accords available, so I should just have my car towed to your store. I get to your store and I was told there were no Honda Accords available. I had just recently fallen and hurt my tail bone badly, so I really didnt want to look at any other cars. The boy talked me into looking at a few cars, and I did purchase one. I was there almost six hours, because this kid didnt seem to know what he was doing. My friend who went with me had enough cash in his bank account to use his debit card but was told that they dont take any form of credit cards. Well he had a debit card! Anyway after a lot of running around back and forth to Banks Etc. I finally got the car. I still know nothing about the car because no one showed me anything other than how to start it! I left there a nervous wreck and sick! I know a lot of people have great experiences with you, but this was the worst experience in my life buying a car! I was extremely disappointed!!!

I can’t say anything bad about the service they provided good service but the car (2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee high altitude)that was transferred from Naperville location had 6k miles but half of the tire thread was gone and it was all rusted on the bottom of the car, I was expecting quality and inspected cars... didn’t even go for a text drive. I feel bad for whoever buys that car....
We went to our test drive for the vehicle that they brought into the Chicago area for us expecting to go home after the test and think about the decision. However, they made the experience so seamless, financially and pragmatically, that we felt comfortable writing a check immeidately. It was our second excellent purchase experience with Carmax. I highly recommend them!
Customer service was horrible.They lied about the state of my car. Accused me of wasting money when I said I wanted to have my mechanic friend confirm their findings. Offered $500 less than KBB online instant offer. They offered me 1k for a 4.5 k car! When I asked what it was worth they said they didn’t know! What?! This is a scam for people who desperately need money right now. I’m sorry you wasted my morning. I sold my car the next day to a private owner for 4K!
Should have stuck with the hillside location. I owe a huge thank you to Keisha in the service department, she went above and BEYOND, but ill never return to this location, ever. Id heard awful things about this location but decided to give them a shot anyway. Never again. Had my car from hillside for 6 years with ZERO issues, had my car from this location for 4 mos and already having service light come on.In response to Carmaxs response: No. No one has reached out to me regarding the issues about my vehicle after only having it for 4 months! You guys come under these reviews with that generic response, not expecting the reviewer to reply. Well, I am. No one reached out and no one was helpful besides the above mentioned employee! I understand that my vehicle was used, but I should not be having issues with it ALREADY. I got it in April. I had my 2012 from Hillside for 7 years, no issues, especially not after 4 months. Anyway, I am grateful for Keisha for helping me the best way that she could, but I will not be returning to this location to purchase a vehicle in the future. I just hope that the car that I have now (which I do love besides the on and off issues) will last.

I was able to get a great Trade In for my old vehicle and leave with a new vehicle at the interest rate, car loan length and car note that we wanted. After doing homework on the type of vehicle, I ordered my VW online and it was transferred from FL. My salesperson, Travis, kept me updated on the progress and informed me when it arrived in Oak Lawn. Test drive went smoothly as did the sales transaction. Before I left the sales manager felt there were water stains on the car and he arranged for me to have the car buffed out in Hillside. All went well and Im enjoying my purchase. Thanks.
The buying process was smooth but them it comes to car cleaning.. The guy told me that the car is all cleaned up from inside and out. But from the inside, it was very dirty. It felt like my car is 4 years old with all the dust (brown marks) on the sun shade. I had to call them again and asked to get it cleaned up. Finally, I scheduled an appointment at Hillside and they cleaned it like as good as new.
We had an excellent experience from start to end. service was great and very prompt and courteous. very straight forward and fair. we couldnt have gotten the price anywhere else and also no hassle of selling a car which is usually a nightmare. Terrible. I had booked an appt online to buy a car. Once I arrived, it took the sales person 1hr to meet. The SUV looked nice until I took it home. The radio knob was missing,brakes squeaking, & door handle piece missing. The sales rep told me someone would call & the part should be in a week later. I still havent head from no one!

Went for to get a new family vehicle and a work gas saver. Mahmoud and Jose helped through the process to make sure I got what I was looking for. For the most part the purchase was ok..had alittle misunderstanding regarding the financing. Also I never got a chance to test drive the car or wasnt able to ask any questions regarding the operation of the vehicle. I felt rushed after I left I had to figure out how to operate the vehicle without the assist of the salesperson, and calling back with any questions was impossible . My first experience with CarMax was back in 2006 I believe and it was a great experience....but this time I was not happy at all!!!!!
2 stars are for the car that we purchased. It was a good price, and an overall good deal. The lack of the remaining three stars are for the lack of customer service and general business comport with the sales people. The salesman that helped us had the charisma of a potato at the bottom of a garbage can. As with any car salesman, you are never getting the entire picture and they are not there to help you. Good place to buy a car, do your homework, be firm with what you want, dont get their warranty, and deal with the sales people as little as possible.
My husband and I have 2 GREAT experiences with CarMax in Oak Lawn, Illinois. Always have the nicest people working there. We checked out all the cars online that we were interested in went into CarMax with 3 or 4 choices . Our first choice was at another CarMax they brought it to the Oak Lawn store for us . Wonderful experience, I will go back when the time comes to get another car.

I was able to have the vehicle transferred, making this a smooth transition. I knew the vehicle that I wanted and when I found it, there was no issue with having it shipped. Customer service was refreshing and every employee spoke when I entered the establishment on West 95th. I would, and have recommended this place to others.
The worst car buying experience I have ever had!! Completely incompetent in dealing with title transferring. Bought my car in August and they werent able to produce a title to my bank until mid December. The resolution to their delay was that I return my vehicle to them!!! What?! So you dont want business? It has been nothing but a headache dealing with these used car salesmen. Never again will I use any Carmax dealer.
What I was thinking was going to be a long and stressful day turned out to be a quick and excellent experience. Everyone we encountered was friendly and helpful but the core reason for such an amazing experience was Sara Kaminski. She was incredible! She took the time to walk us through the process and even sat with us in the car once it was purchased to assist with setting up the different options. I would high recommend CarMax and make sure you ask for Sara!
We brought our car to Carmax to sell and it was hassle free. We bought the Car from Carmax 8 years ago and when it was time to let it go we thought of the service we received 8 years ago and brought our car back to the Oak Lawn store. The experience was fast, the people were kind , and courteous.
From the minute I walked in, every need was met with a smile! My sales person Bill Matariyeh took me through every step, unloaded my old van and made sure I had everything I needed. He didnt rush me, was clear with the instructions, he really went above & beyond for me! I LOVE my Jeep!!
I am reaching out to to express my disappointment of the prep Carmax did on my car before my pick up. I heard noise and car was not cleaned , I took it back to CarMax who says they could not find anything- I took it to Subaru and they found a recall on the vehicle that was not addressed and to top it off oil was not changed when the says it was due in 500 miles.Not what I expected from CarMaxI do love my Outback
I just recently sold my 2007 Dodge Nitro to carmax and my experience was great. The appraisal was contactless and quick. I was very satisfied with the offer.The associates kept me up to date with each stage of the process with phones. They even give you a fresh sealed pen to sign. I am so glad my friend suggested to bring my car to carmax!

2022-01-12Normally, CarMax is my jam. I say that because most of the cars there have some updates that I could never afford. For instance, this car has a remote start. What!?!?! Ive been wanting remote start forever. I also have my push button back and butt warmer back. Now, on to why I gave it two stars. When I traded my original car, it needed repairs, and it would have cost more to repair my vehicle, so I went from my dealership toCarMax because I usually get. The young man I worked with was super sweet, but he missed so many things on that car that I had to go back almost every day for a week to get that car actually ready for sale. It was sold too soon. The driver side door was not flush with the body of the car, pretty much no gas. The windshield blades were jacked up because there was a wire coming out of one, and the driver side was barely getting cleared at all. Also, there was a slow leak in the back tires, and I could barely see images on the key fob. I was thinking about switching out the car even though they fixed most of the issues, but I missed the 30-day return by 1 day. FRUSTRATING!!!! I will give them a chance again, but it would not be that one again in Oak Lawn. This turned out to be one of the most unprofessional and untrained staff Ive encountered. Oh and when I asked to speak to the operations manager, he never came out from wherever he was hiding out and did not return my call. NOT COOL!!!!! I also looked at what I could have done better, so Im more prepared the next time. Have a great day everyone!!!🤓

2022-05-17The process of being approved was great. Customer service (Carmen) and the sales rep (Travis) were great. My only issue was how long it took for the transfer of the car to be received from another state and the wrong information I received as to when the car would arrive. Other than that the transaction was smooth.

2022-07-01I had been to several dealers and felt like I was in the lions den each of them trying for their pound of flesh. Then I went to CarMax in Oaklawn and met Sharman! She was just friendly, not fake. No pressure no haggle and the price was right! You have 30 days to bring up any issues and I thought it was running a little loud so I brought it in. Jesus looked it over, said there was some uneven wear on the tires, BAM, 4 new tires! No cost! They dont want to just sell you a car, they want a happy customer. Got one here!!

2022-06-29I had several FLAWLESS experiences with CarMax. Within 2 months, my son and I sold a car outright, traded in a car and purchased a new (to me!) vehicle. I could not have asked for a better experience. All staff members were very knowledgeable, friendly and answered all of my questions. The entire process was completed in a very timely, efficient manner. I would definitely deal with CarMax again.

2022-07-08My offer was $3,000.00 less than what had been offered on the online offer. The reliable auto shop of 30 years that had fixed my car said that I had no structural damage only cosmetic and wrote a statement. CarMax mechanics claimed otherwise. I was not allowed to discuss it with the CarMax mechanics nor would they tell me where my car had structural damage.

2022-05-18Saleman was nice but didn’t know about the features of the vehicle. Completed everything on my end for express pick up however it took over 2 hours to gain possession of my vehicle. No one did a walk around with me to ensure I was satisfied with the detailing that was done. Upon my inspection, I was not satisfied with the detailing & the person they sent to clean what I was not happy with had major attitude. I must say that so far I am happy with the vehicle I purchased but not happy with the experience. Not sure I will be purchasing another vehicle or recommending CarMax to others.

2022-01-29Although the car buying experience was quite easy. I paid for a car to get shipped to my nearest location which took a few weeks. They proceeded to run my credit to get the best rate, running it through four or more companies. Only to find out they wouldn’t have the title to the car for another two months. So they had to rerun my credit for the next car I wanted again another three times. Nevertheless I ended up with multiple inquires which made my credit score much lower, causing a higher payment for the second car, a year less model of car, and 20k more miles. I was highly upset and disappointed.

2022-07-13Very courteous helpful service, although lots of cars were unavailable as other people had appointments at some future time to take them out for a test drive. It seems like the person standing in the lot ready to go would be able to test drive Ive and buy on the spot, rather than wait for some future possibilities. The whole bird in the hand thing... Odd business model, IMO

He took care of me in three transactions over the course of two weeks and nothing less than 100% effort and hard work. 2022-03-10I was there for over 5 hrs for a car in which the terms had already been worked out prior to delivery. The paper work was done incorrectly 3 times. They got my address wrong. I spent of 75k on a vehicle that didn’t get delivered with floor mats. When I inquired about floor mats, I was told that they would only purchase the front set. When I finally got the car in my possession and was out the door I noticed how filthy it was. They washed the car but it wasn’t cleaned. I immediately had to take the car that I just purchased from a dealership to get cleaned and detailed properly. Not the level of customer service that I had expected from a reputable company. Worst car experience ever.
