Picked up take-out form here tonight... I thought it was a little pricey but thought it would be worth it from the good things I have heard. The food was nice and hot when I picked it up and everything was included. Unfortunately, the rib meat was though and a little chewy and had the lining on the back still there. The chicken leg mean was okay. Chicken was moist but not very flavorful.
Food is to die for but the staff kills it . They are so unmotivated screwing up orders, adding time to your dinner by stalling unNecessarily, I am just blown away by the store obvious it is still in business due the food but how can that service be allowed to passNew update I stoped in for the first time in a while and they served me raw chicken when I called ahead a hour ahead of time giving them more then enough timeNo words can express how angry I am with the owners who owns this store I’m going to contact the department of Illinois health services since this place should really not be open make sure u check your chicken , the cook is always cooking with sunglasses inside it’s a wonder they haven’t killed someone yet with Salmonella poisoning
I had always had a great meal at Broosters. I did not like the cheap shot of adding curry powder to your chicken. I will return to the restaurant when the curry powder is gone. Do you also own the Lombard location? Or can I get good food there? You received two stars for the mashed potatoes and beans...obviously those recipes didnt change. Good luck in Darien.
Ordered a whole chicken to-go at about 2:15pm on a Saturday. Called in my order and was asked to wait 15 minutes. When I arrived , the restaurant was was nearly empty and there was plenty of chicken available. My order was waiting, but Im not sure why there was a 15 minute wait.On to the product...The flavor was the familiar Broosters seasoning. +2 However, this was the driest Broosters Ive experienced from the store. I wouldnt come back on that merit alone. In addition, I didnt quite receive a whole chicken, either-- three thighs, two drumsticks, one breast, one wing. Im feeling a bit jipped since it was a substitution not in my favor.Recommendations for the management:1) Get reacquainted with the anatomy of a chicken and the definition of a whole chicken.2) Give people what they order and paid for.3) Return to the quality product they offered in the past.
Still one of the best chicken places ever. We used to eat here all the time in the early 90s and the chicken is always very tender with an amazing flavor that I cannot describe. We recently were in the area and tried it again and it was amazing. The only reason why I gave it 4 stars is because there were many small bones in my chicken burrito but my wife did not have any in hers. Tasted amazing I would recommend this place still after all of these years.
Even after finding 3 different menus online With different pricing I called to support a local new business. Was told that they are working on the website and online presence , despite opening in February. It doesn’t take 5 months to figure into it.Wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt for sure .Mistake...ordered a whole chicken and a side of cole slaw and corn. Chicken was super over cooked and bone dry. Slaw was soupy and corn was flavorless. Hope the new owners pull it off but I will not be returning.
The place was really nicely remodeled, it feels very cozy inside and perfect for a late cozy dinner. The customer service was really good, staff was polite and I was well taken care of. As far as I know, they are working under new management and so far they’re doing excellent job. I will be coming back for sure!
About the best flame broiled chicken around. Do not pass this place without trying it. You will be hooked for life! They marinate the chicken with very unique seasongs, the potatoes wedges are always outstanding. The baked beans are always wonderful, mashed potatoes are always one of the favorite standbys. We havent tried the ribs yet, only because every time we go, the chicken always looks so good on the nice big grill, we have to have it! We only wish it was a little closer to home!
So so torn on this place. I love the chicken but I always have to plan a backup option. It’s about a 30% chance they will have chicken when you walk in. Typical wait is 40 minutes. Being out of any of the sides is also a distinct possibility. I keep hoping they will figure it all out, but I walk out empty handed more often than not.Update: have left twice without food recently but was pleasantly surprised to get a meal today 1/15/20. Everything was as good as I hoped, except the potatoes. I don’t even know what to say. The color you see I the picture is gray and black. Plus they were so undercooked that they were hard to stick with a fork, not that anyone wanted to eat these.
Update: 2020 new owner has really made the place nicer with outdoor seating!I get the 1/4 white chicken and mashed potatoes. The garlic bread is a nice bonus. Timing is important, popular times can cause a 20 minute wait. Food is made fresh and very delicious. It is worth the wait.
In my opinion, this place has the best chicken I have ever had. The fact that it is a family owned business and has been around for over 20 years is the reason why I decided to try it. I had a half chicken dinner with potato wedges and coleslaw. The chicken was cooked perfectly and the wedges were out of this world. The coleslaw is homemade and is a must have. The customer service was great and the prices were more than reasonable. I read some other reviews on here from a gentleman named Jim M, after looking at his profile I realized he is one of those people who love giving 1 star reviews for fun because my experience was completely different. He also seems to have a little prejudice towards people who cant speak english very well. All in all, the chicken is amazing at this place and I would try it first before you make an opinion.
I feel like this place has gotten worse and worse over this past year. The service is horrible which is unfortunate cause the chicken is good. I ordered from this place over the phone earlier this year and was told 25 minutes. I went to pick it up and a friend of mine went there also to place a separate order. The guy assumed we were together and pushed my order back so it would be ready at the same time as hers. I waited an hour and watched him give my order to someone who ordered after me. When I asked the guy about it, he said that he thought I would be waiting with my friend and admitted to giving my chicken to another customer. No apologies or anything! I was so mad that I never went back. Well, today my friend wanted chicken from there so I told her to order and I would pick it up. She called broosters and before she could even get a word out, the guy who answered said they only accept cash. She hung up with him and called me to make sure I had cash. Then she calls back to place the order and the line is busy. She attempts to call for another 20 minutes and its still busy. So I decide to just drive there and when I pull up, they are closed. Its 7:30 pm and they are supposed to be open til 9pm. No where does it say they are closing early. I look inside and the guy is cleaning and ignoring me. I dial the number, and its a busy signal. The guy put the phone off the hook so he could close early. Im so sick of the people who work here! They need better service skills or hire people who know how to do the job!
The chicken is really good but I took off two stars due to the horrible ordering experience. The 2 employees working there did not seem to know what they were doing and could not keep up with the customer flow. I called in my order and repeated myself several times as the woman hard a hard time understanding English and she still got it wrong. Waited a half hour for my meal.
Food is awesome, I always get a half chicken. Been coming here for over 5 years, Never disappointed. Healthy food, not greasy like most chicken places. My favorite sides are the white cheddar Mac n cheese and the Zuchinni marinara! Definitely recommend the parmigian dressing & their BBQ sauce!
Being from Darien, Ive driven past Broosters probably a 1,000 times since it opened in 1988! Never tried it until today (thanks to Yelp!). First impression, its probably never been updated since 1988. Not a big deal to me as long as the food is good!We ordered a half chicken and a Malibu chicken sandwich, both with potato wedges. The flavor of the chicken is really good & not greasy at all, but the white meat was a bit dry. My chicken sandwich w/ lettuce, tomato, mayo and cheese was tasty but I found a bone in it! Bummer! The potato wedges were flavorful, closer to roasted potatoes than fries.
Half the time you go there hey are are not opened when they are supposed to be. I have been there at 11:15 and they are not open because the employee who is supposed to run the register doesnt show up. The cook who is a very nice guy does not know how to run the register, so the doors stay locked until the register person shows up.And then what does show up as far as an employee is an embarrassment to the business. Good food when you can get it...but the way this place is run is bad.
Health conscious? Want fresh, real food? Looking for high protein, low carbs? Come here!!Been eating here for about 4yrs. Place is VERY consistent with food and cleanliness. They have marinated chicken both white and dark options. Fresh red potatoes wedges, rice and broccoli to name a few.My “goto” is the chickeb strips which is a REAL (not processed) chicken breast, grilled and sliced into strips with a side of rice. Healthy, fast and delicious!Give it a try!
Back in the early 90s, when this place first open, I dated someone who worked there & she got my friend & I hooked on their Chicken Burritos, which are a chicken caeser wrap that is to die for. Took my daughter over to this area this summer & wanted to see if this place was still there. OH MY! Found out not only is it there, but there is one way closer to me that I didnt even know about.
They have some of the best chicken I’ve ever had, but the service is the complete opposite the gentleman who works there is great but the other employees couldn’t care less, I have called in food ahead to wait 10-15 minutes for it , I have come after ordering food to find out my order was forgotten and not made yet , order can not be taken till like a half hour after they open because the chef opens and doesn’t speak English so he doesn’t answer the phone I could go on and on bottom line if u are in the area and need a good food for the low stop here to get a decent experience or the worst one u have ever had. Perfect example is I ordered a 1/4 dinner white meat like I always do and got 1/4 dark meat and this is not the first time which prompted this review mistakes should be corrected not swept other the rug experience killed my whole lunch funny thing is I placed order inside not over phone and said it many time for emphasisWould to give 2.5/5 food is 5/5 though
Dont waste a dime at this placeI ordered a chicken kabab and I got2 small chicken pieces on a stick that were so dry I couldnt eat it. McDonalds has better chicken then broosters. (dead serious)all the sides are pre made and nothing is fresh. I spent 7$ on **** which I could have spent on much better food across the street.save your money.
If I could give negative stars to them I would, -5. On 2015/06/26 at 17:20 I was there and ordered food for 3 people.... 1/2 chicken dinner, chicken parmesan sandwich, and 1/4 chicken dinner with a salad (it came as lettuce only). I had also noticed a sign on the outside of the build stating they have GLUTEN FREE chicken. However it should also be noted that there are NO disclaimers in regards to the use of common areas OR utensils. While the meals were finishing being prepared I observed the cook using metal tongs to manipulate the texas toast, he then used the SAME tongs to handle the chicken. That IS NOT gluten free, there is/will be cross contamination. And they really should not be advertising GLUTEN FREE. I kindly mentioned the problem to the woman who handles the cash register and she promptly washed the tongs, placed them apart from other tongs used for chicken and informed the cook. Who then would glare at me and defiantly used the same tongs again on the bread and chicken while preparing our meals. In addition to the cross contamination problem the chicken itself was very dry and had little no taste. Btw, they advertise that the chicken is marinated overnight. With two of the meals baked beans were ordered as one of the sides...They were absolutely horrid! They had an overpowering coffee taste and smell. I have never had restaurant baked beans made that way, anywhere! They were nasty. I called the restaurant and spoke with the cashier and asked if coffee was used in the bean recipe. She claimed that it wasnt, so I respectfully asked again (she doesnt speak english very well). And I was told no a second time.Bottom line, I and my friends will never go there again and we will spread the word about the poor quality of the food and the dangerous (and undisclosed) practices they are using in preparing something they claim to be gluten free.

2022-06-01Going to give them 5 stars again. After a good amount of time avoiding this one due to possible previous owners who overcooked it. Seems there are new owners. One gentleman is still there and has been forever. Anyways, chicken is back to being juicy. Prices have crept up over the years. I grew up in Darien, have probably gone here for at least 20 years. Definitely recommend, some of the best chicken when cooked well.

2022-06-15First and last time here. Ordered a full chicken dinner with slaw, Texas toast + a kabob. We were Really most interested in some great char grilled chicken. Unfortunately it was dry and flavorless. The kabob was genuinely terrible - the only flavor came from an odd sauce which appeared to be made from ketchup. 🤮 we threw most of the food away.

2022-05-19Im not sure what everyone loves about this place unless they were paid to comment. My friends said this place was thumbs down but I didnt believe them so I tried it myself. Horrible! Got the chicken kabob with roasted potatoes and coleslaw. The sauce on the kabob was not barbecue, it was a cross between sweet/sour sauce and something else and it looked like it was just plopped on the kabob. You could even see the syrup in the sauce. The potatoes were boiled with absolutely NO flavor and no seasoning. The slaw tasted fine until the aftertaste kicked in. The worst dinner, worst waste of money. I threw the whole thing out. Horrible flavor. This is not barbecue. This isnt even American food. Friends were right, disgusting.

2022-06-28Haven’t been to a roosters in awhile. I used to go to the one in Lombard quite often but the Darien location is very close to my residence. Went there at 4:30 and ordered 1/2 chicken and it was so dried out that I threw most of it out. For 20 bucks for chicken and then to throw it out I wasn’t happy. Maybe because it was not prime time that it sat too long. Toast and beans as always were very good. Staff was very polite and I’ll try again

2022-02-27Love Broosters chicken - always fresh and great flavor unique from ubiquitous fried bird found everywhere. Sides are also tasty and a bit less common (broccoli rice & potato wedges are a favorite)

2021-12-14First time visitor, had excellent chicken, great flavor and not dry. Also tried the house burger, it was one of the top 10 burgers I’ve ever had. The new owner was kind enough to make it himself personally, so service is top notch.
