2022-06-02Great museum and general store. Was disappointed that the state-owned buildings, like the colony church, were not open.

2021-09-07Interesting historical town in the great state of Illinois. Swedish heritage, culture and pride in this town. Genealogy museum is great for anyone to trace and discover their family.

2018-07-12I did a day trip here about a year ago and it was great. The whole towns cute as a button and if you enjoy antiquing and/or unusual off the beaten path historic sites youll have an excellent time. The volunteers are generally people whose families have lived there for ages and know a ton about the towns history. The church is particularly beautiful.

2018-07-26Very interesting history here in a quiet little country town. We were disappointed that we took a trip there and several of the little shops there were closed for vaca till Aug. 1. We had lunch at the Filling Station which was a cute little cafe with good food. Planning to go back during the Christmas season.

2019-04-13I really love visiting here. My parents used to come here quite often years ago. Make sure you visit the museum and eat at a local restaurant. I found the Old Post Office a real treat was its old PO Boxes the big church and the cemetery are also worth visiting. They have several events during the year I would try to plan to see it then. A wide variety of trees in the local park which I had trouble identifying. Super nice place

2018-10-12Truly historically preserved community, settled by Swedish immigrants, creating a destination that led future Swedish settlers to the surrounding communities, including Victoria, Galva, and Galesburg. The original settlers arrived by boat in Chicago, and the walked to Bishop Hill. They lived in dugouts on the Edwards River, while creating their prosperous community. The community is still remote, and beautifully charming. Whether youre here for a quick stop, or you are able to visit numerous times, its well worth your time.
