Completely asinine you still require vaccination status or negative tests for people to come patronize your business and give you their money. Hiding behind the when the concerts were scheduled the artists agreed to play based on these rules is also ridiculous because government mandates were in place at that time (and are not now) and also cases were higher (inflated numbers at that, lets be honest) -- but to still enforce it now? Good riddance, Ill take my money elsewhere. Summerfest isnt even requiring this b/s.
While not someplace that I frequent being in a neighboring state, I did find it to be a unique little place. Only giving four stars because of it being a bar, they do not have somewhere for underage patrons to sit/hang out before concerts that are open to their age group. The concert that I took my son to ended up starting later than the ticket time and he was forced to stand outside in the cold for well over an hour past the time the concert was supposed to start because he was a minor (under 21). However, with that aside, it was a nice place. I ended up getting dinner here towards the end of the concert while I was waiting on my son to get out of the concert.Wait staff was friendly, swift, and informative. Offered to keep an eye on my table, as I was eating alone, so that I could run to the restroom before my food came.Food was okay.. its a bar. Ive definitely had much worse from actual restaurants. I ordered their steak salad with no tomatoes. Serving size was big and filling.
Called and asked a question about where we should waiting for a concert and the worker gave me a lot of attitude telling me that it’s not worth doing that. I asked him a simple question, and instead he gave his own opinion. Me and other fans were wanting to know for tomorrow and the worker was just super unhelpful and rude.
Cool vibes, we saw a great show here. I just wish I would have had an option to sit. The show sold out, but could have surely had seats in the back and a standing room only area right in front of the stage. We did not get a chance to try the food but have heard it is great!
After a long year of eating at home I get chances to eat out. And Beat Kitchen is a great place to do this. The food is always good which is tough to do. Ive never had anything bad here, maybe its just okay at worst and the people here are just the best which also contributes to how good the food is.As you feel safer come out and check out their selection of food and drink. And as live shows start coming back, you cant find a better local place to enjoy them than here. I seriously love that this place is still in my neighborhood.
Good food, not great. Some bar staff were either mad to be there or just not very happy in general. Music by faux furrs and temporary pharoahs was awesome-great place to listen to live music. Retro feel in the bar and music venue. Bathrooms left some things to be desired.
I went to the navy pier location which isnt listed online so Im doing the review here. Lemonade was delicious, chicken was seasoned great and the hot sauce was awesome. Could of done without the bell peppers and cheese on it. Also I wouldnt get the quesadillas as its nothing but plain cheese on a flour tortilla. I was expecting some seasoning/sauce with veggies for $12!
Small but very nice venue. Had a few drinks at the bar before a show. Prices very reasonable. Food looked/smelled great but I didnt have time to try. Venue is tiny; basically a box. Bathrooms are inconveniently located in the basement. Sound was great. Id definitely go back.
Went to this place, because it’s near by. Spent about $25 on food that I couldn’t even eat ($8.00 soggy/ wet fries and a $16 “steak” quesadilla with hardly any meat . I picked my order up pretty promptly, but everything was extremely soggy and kind of thrown together. I understand it was around 9:00, but when I called they explained that “it happens with to go orders”... a “hey fries on us next time would have been nice... at least I know where not to get take out from, now on.
Supercute small venue! Sound system is good, and the bands have to walk through the crowd to get to the stage. Events have a more personal feel to them, and theres a bar for those seeking drinks. I cant review the bar itself because I did not partake, but for shows, Id be happy to return to the Beat Kitchen!
I went to see Brian Posehn here and it was a great experience. As busy as it was, the waitresses and staff were pleasant. I didnt order food, but I saw it brought out of the kitchen constantly and it looked and smelled good. Drinks were good, with prices you would expect. I have disabilities and even though it was a standing-only show, when asked they got me a chair and I sat up front on the left corner and had a great time with a lot less pain. I would definitely go to this venue again.
Nice place to go to see comedy or music. Great interior and great service. However, the back rooms lines were filthy and my Oktoberfest beer tasted like there were three different sour beers mixed in that were two weeks old (and there were). If it werent for that, this place would get five stars. Just stick to the main bar.
Excellent little venue! Never had a bad crowd at a show Ive seen here, and have always appreciated the variety and caliber of performers invited to the space. Bartenders, and door-staff are friendly, and drinks are a good price with specials often offered. If youre here for a concert, it isnt too much of a challenge to arrive slightly early and secure a spot with a solid view of the stage. Bonus points for a sound team who nicely balances levels without giving in to the Chicago standard of just blasting the low end until your ears ache and the notes are entirely massacred into noise.
I found myself at the beat kitchen because of a friends band and really enjoyed myself!I like the fact that the venue is separate from the restaurant/ bar area. The music was great, but it got a little loud at times. They also have a great outdoor patio! We had a lovely night.
The Beat Kitchen is one of the best venues Ive ever been to. Great food, fairly cheap beer, and a rotating line up of killer show after killer show. Also, The Beat Kitchen is hands down one of the best sounding venues Ive ever been to. Im not sure if its the room or the way the sound is set up but this place sounds incredible.
An intimate bar with local music. Popular with the hipsters, it is a decent place to eat and listen to music. We were not impressed with the food. People seem to love the pizza, the quesadilla. If you are listening to music, you have to leave the back room and go downstairs. Also the wait staff seems a little slow in getting back to the music room. Also the beer selection could be a little better in this age of fine craft beers. They really need to expand the place, it can get chaotic when a popular band is there. I actually wanted to give the place 2.5 stars, dont really think it deserves 3 stars, but I rounded up because i think it could be a better place.
You know that kind of place where its an all in one friendly neighborhood bar/cafe with regular music in a room in the back and a performance space upstairs small enough to be called intimate where mostly local comics perform....a place you were happy you find on this cold autumn night? Well, I found one! Bus 146 and 77 will take you there from downtown. And back. A mixed fun crowd.
First time visiting this bar/venue spot. Came to see Shwayze perform and dined as we waited for the show to start. We placed an appetizer order for guac and chips, which the guac was beautifully seasoned! We were so glad to find that out. Ordered one of the vegetarian friendly pizzas that had spinach and added mushrooms, which was a great choice! Pizza was thin crust, massive and flavorful. We sat right by the venue doors, so we were able to eat and drink while listening to the opening bands, until we finished and closed our tab to then watch the show. Overall, the Beat Kitchen gave us a solid first time impression.
I love coming here for shows and I can never leave without tater tots lol The sound here for shows is just awesome (Good job sound guy) and the beer and drink selection is just great. One of my favorite spots in the city. I enjoy their menu, the overall feel of the place is relaxed.
I went here a few weekends ago for a show. I didnt eat any food so I cant write about that but they had a great beer special, but ran our of that beer. But the atmosphere was great with a punk rock kind of feel in the back. The front is more relaxed with booths and tables.
Really pretentious service, and the food was clearly freezer to fryer. The waitress was entirely uninterested in helping us, and when I went to the bar, the bartender claimed it had just come up. I found that hard to believe, as it was rather cold. The movie event was fun, but the place is terribly run.
The Kid Cudi Experience was great, and had a cozy atmosphere. But the front door security was unnecessarily rude--even though I had a none alcoholic beverage, and no wristband, they kicked me out of my paid experience because my hand stamps washed off a good amount after using the restroom. One of them pulled me to the front and was dragging my arm. Hopefully they handle things in a more thought out manner.
Always love hanging out at this place, whether it be as a performer or a patron. My main and probably only gripe about this place over the years has been the consistent stream of lacklustre sound engineers. Sometimes its incredibly on point, other times its a muddy mess with seemingly no care or attention paid to the nuances of the acts on stage. Beer selection is great, food is pretty decent bar food and the entertainment variety that comes through is fantastic.
This place has been around forever and myself and all my musician friends have played here at one time or another. Just went back here last night, met friends, and had dinner/drinks. I had a delicious lamb burger with amazing tater tots. Our cocktails were just ok. The soap dispenser was broken in mens room. So, yeah its a pretty loveable dive for a low key and fun night.
Solid place for shows, nice bartenders.bearded door guy sucks. obviously has some power trip complex and is one of the worst human beings that exists on our planet. incredibly rude and quick to love telling you no, for absolutely no reason, other than he just flat out sucks and enjoys ruining peoples nights. theres no way his life is fulfilling.were friends with the band and they told us that the venue even warned them about how bad he would be ahead of time, and they were right.be warned.
Nice friendly part of town easy to find parking. the venue part is threw door in the back of the bar. a open square with a small stage and a bar the they only use for shows. fairly priced drinks, bathrooms are ok, and they allow in and outs. it gets a little cramped when there is a packed house. but over all great part to see a live show
I went to Bluegrass Brunch a few weeks ago with the lady friend and as soon as we ordered our food, a massively loud sound came from behind us, drowning out the two acoustic musicians at the front of the bar. They had scheduled a KIDS ROCK CAMP at the exact same time as Bluegrass Brunch, and so we were forced to sit through wailing electric guitars for the next 45 minutes as we waited on our food. The musicians up front looked really exasperated, because no one could hear them. Who books two such events at the same time?? Cancel one or the other. (No offense to the child musicians -- keep rocking, kids.)
Words cannot describe how I truly feel about this place, but I will try anyway. The cheeseburgers here are absolutely epic. They are on special on Thursdays for $6 with fries or tater tots. There isnt a ton of seating, so you might have a tiny bit of a wait for a table. There is always live music going on, but you dont have to pay if you stay in the front section of the bar. The beer list here is very respectable with a constantly changing selection of local and craft brews on tap. Oh, the fish tacos are pretty darn good as well.
Im sure the food was good but it came out bro cold. We came to see a show and it was standing room only. We had planned to eat during it. You have to eat outside the show showroom so you cant watch and eat at the same time. Maybe this was just a crazy popular show because I did see tables and chairs stacked but I had an unpleasant experience because it was 2 hours of standing in a poor spot because I was starving and decided to get an appetizer an hour before the show.
Probably my favorite Northside Chicago venue. Amazing beer list with a bunch of locals (yay pipeworks) and great specials, really good food selection with bar bites and some surprisingly delicious and thoughtful dishes (yay portobello burger) and so much indie music MOJO it makes me want to start a band just to play there. Good safe venue for all-ages shows as well (spoken as a dad). Win, win, win!
Really nice venue, good sound, great staff but security sucks! Was there on Saturday for the bombflower album release(great band check them out) and there was some girl there who kept punching people in the crowd intentionally over and over again and the security guard did nothing about it but break up the 15 fights (people defending themselves) multiple people told him she was a problem and needed to leave and nothing was done. Security is there to protect the venue AND PATRONS. They should have dealt with this issue the first time!
A group of us went here to see a friend perform with Movits!, a strangely good Swedish group that mashes hip-hop with swing and gets away with it.Though I was entirely too tired to be at a concert, and wed arrived some 2 hours early, we waited patiently for the show in the bar area.Despite being a restaurants worst nightmare - a table that doesnt order much, but lingers for a good while - we werent pestered by the staff. In fact, the wait staff was rather pleasant. The music venue is small and sounds great. I definitely had a great time here, though after the acts finish up its a free-for-all and generally difficult to move anywhere. The previous act, Boutros, didnt help by obnoxiously trying to hock their latest album and t-shirt by physically preventing people from going back to the bar area.
The Beat Kitchen is the absolute WORST Bar, concert venue in the entire world. Words do not begin to describe how awful it is.First off. Its super gross, smells like somone took a pee on everything, gave you a very dirty feeling.Second. Staff is EXTREMELY rude. Ive never experienced such bad service. My wife and I drove from WI down to The Beat Kitchen on Sept 23rd to see one of our favorite bands. Doors for the venue opened at 7:30 and we were there around 5, planning on having a nice meal and then getting in line for the concert. We walked into the bar expecting to get service right away, but I stead waited around for 10 minutes while the bartender played on her phone, seeing us, and ignoring us. Apparently we werent important enough clientele. After what seemed like forever she finally decided to talk to us. I asked about the concert and the food, etc. And the bartender was so weird! She acted like we were a nuisance and then said Also, you dont look like youre 21. You have to be 21 to eat here.My wife and I are both 21 and able to drink, but we were so put-off by how rude the bartender was we decided to find another place to eat, and come back closer to the concert. After our dinner at another restaurant down the street, we went back to get in line. My wife had forgotten to bring her ID with her, but we werent planning on drinking, had already purchased tickets, and the show was 17 and older. Now any reasonable person would have looked at my ID and been fine with my wife (who was 21 but forgot her ID) coming into the conceet. But Nooo. The man at the door wouldnt give any leeway on the matter. I would understand if it was legally required but no, this was Beat Kitchens own rule and they wouldnt let my wife in. He was also extremely rude about the matter. So the night was successfully ruined thanks to this awful bar. NEVER patronize this terrible place.
From my limited experience, the Beat Kitchen is/was awesome.Additionally, its a great value, for music event tickets (and live music entertainment provided at the event). [But compared to the dirt cheap music/show/concert tickets, the bar charges a decent price for most drinks at Chicago prices, comparatively. For example, the on-tap beer started at $3 or $4. A can of 312 was $6. (Prices vary.)]Back to my recent experience at the Beat Kitchen during last week (on a weeknight, a Thursday [night], of all days/nights!).Anyway, THE FACTS: The Knowmads ROCKED The Roof And Straight Lit The Beat Kitchen On Fire; It Got Hot In There... LOL. WHAT AN INTENSE PERFORMANCE BY THE UNDERGROUND, SEATTLE-BASED, HIP-HOP DUO 0F LYRICAL RAPPERS - FOR THEIR CHICAGO FANS & MEMBERS OF THEIR MUSICAL FAM! An Intense & Amazing Experience at 2100 W Belmont in Chicago (at the Knowmads Live Concert/Show/Performance - [last] Thursday, October 4th, 2018)!!!Wasnt expecting much from the Beat Kitchen, considering it was less than $20 for the tickets, but I was pleasantly surprised - and left wanting nothing more! There was literally an unasked-for-encore, at the end, and then fans began chanting for one more, so they did a second traditional style encore to their original or first, originally surprise/unrequested/unprovoked encore. It was amazing..The Perfect Show. At the Perfect Low-Key Venue.
Cool place, good food, horrible bouncers.Came here for lunch during the day with my family. The bouncer had the nerve to tell me we couldt eat there because I was under 21 at the time, told us we couldnt even eat outside. Meanwhile, theres was a family with an infant eating outside. The whole thing was just insane, like a bad sketch comedy, we couldt believe what this guy was saying us.
I started going to the BK back in the day, when Pat McCurdy played here every Tuesday night, and you could still smoke indoors in the city of Chicago. The place was a bit of a dump back then, but when the management changed they cleaned up the Beat Kitchen. Pat McCurdy is long gone, but they still host small shows where just a handful of people might show up. The food is quite good for bar food and best of all, the staff has always been super-nice and remembers me even though I dont go too often. Check out the comedy shows upstairs!
I saw the lillingtons my favorite band currently on tour. i got the setlist and the band signed the tour poster i have pictures and recorded the 90 min show audio of bands make war lill headlined. i stayed outside and missed the first really poppy band and found out my close friend chin who came and met at the show is a level 6 guide lol cheers everyone happy 420!
So yesterday my entire building caught on fire which is literally 6 houses down from beat kitchen. in between talking to the 10 firefighters and building inspector I had to go somewhere to warm up. My roommate and sister decided to go in beat kitchen to figure out what the hell im going to do. I was in and out of there all day. That had somehow found on it was my place that caught fire and caused all of Belmont to be blocked off. Myself and my family ended up coming there after the fire. Ordered drinks and food and tried to make the best of a terrible situation. We went to pay the bill and to our suprise beat kitchen had covered the entire check. Its the little things in life like this, that proves there is still great people and great establishments like beat kitchen.Thank you guys so much, and if I can ever pay it forward in anyway please let me know.I will be a customer for life
To begin with , if they have any future little concerts. Don’t even bother coming here for that. I was wrongly accused of apperantly smoking a cigarette/vape. Which was not even true . The security guy went from saying I smoke a vape then to a cigarette. When I tried to explain he was very disrespectful to me and my friend. I tried to ask the security to speak to a manager to explain the situation . He said their was no manager working, which is off because their should always be a manager working for things like this. Everyone that was around clearly told him that I didn’t. This escalated to much to where I had to call the cops bc of the way he was talking to us . I was also called a “b*tch”. Of course he denied but also several people heard him. No action was taken from the way he disrespect me and my friend. None of my friends will come here ever again due to the lack of communication and how disrespectful that guy was .
I am a fairly old guy so you gotta take this with a grain of salt.Liked it.I am an Exit, Neo, Smart bar, Union, kinda guy.Hansel and Greta at front are fine, your personal relationship is cool with me, just get me a drink.Doormen are supercool, in fact been around the world and only akihabara dudes were cooler.Venue rocks for the size of the crowds.Parking, pssht I could eat pie and drink a big glass of milk and park backwards with my d**k in my hand and never park so easy. You guys are all right.P.S. Monobody...holy hell are they amazing.
I have call a few times to ask regarding the kids show on March 30th. The person answering phone was rude and had no idea how things work I have an infant and all I needed to know if we had to pay for tickets or not. I have no complains about the place but I do think that the employees answering the phone should have an idea of whats going on in this place and if they don’t maybe be Courteous enough to get the information you are requesting.Thank you

2022-04-10Went to Beat Kitchen last night to see a live performance. Great experience all around! The venue (located downstairs) accommodated a crowd of us in a smaller, more intimate setting. Drinks were surprisingly affordable and tasty. Looking forward to coming again!

2022-02-11I helped produce an event here and had the next experience. The bartenders are super attentive and helpful. The food is absolutely delicious! We loved the whole experience.

2022-07-01We came to watch The Rare Occasions one weekend. The venue was really easy to find, even being out of state. Staff manning the entrance were friendly and kept foot traffic flowing. The show itself was amazing and the venue was better than some Ive been to. It was a warm Chicago night but inside the temp never got unbearable or even uncomfortable. Wish we had ordered food but we werent too sure how late the kitchen stayed open.

2021-11-20Sat down to have a drink, which was great. Politely asked the staff to turn on the heater while we were sitting and they told me they wouldn’t turn on the heaters and that “I had to go” after serving us within 20 minutes of our arrival. Be more courteous to your customers.

2022-04-18Great venue! The sound is one of the best in the city. Super small super intimate super fun.

2022-04-23Saw the Bouncing Souls here. It was an unusual show, but the band just went with the flow and it made it very special that way. It started as an acoustic set, then an electric set going through an assortment of drummers, one of which was even pulled from the audience.Covid card check at entrance, but no mask requirement at the time. It is a great small venue. . . But . . . A barricade? There typically hasnt been one before at this venue and these things simply ruin the fun of punk shows, especially in this space.

2022-04-25Decent for music and food, but concert staff seemed pretty darn angry and mean tonight. Not used to people coming off so angry and harsh. Maybe it was 3 nights in a row of shows.Id suggest putting out some signs so you dont have to get all angry at people breaking rules they didnt know existed. Over time you will lose goodwill. The kid keeping side wall free as a walkway has an impossible job. Put some tape down and signs up. Still he managed to be friendly while doing it.

2022-06-19Good location on river walk with an interesting menu. Be prepared, its pricey for what you get but you pay for the lactation and a variety of fusion menu items. Shaded seating on the river was fun.

2022-04-29Traveled from Cincinnati to see my favorite band, the Bouncing Souls. We had a technical issue with pulling up my wifes vaccination card on her phone, and due to the artists request, werent able to get in. Door staff was just doing their jobs, and although we were pretty bummed, the owner personally reached out to us and made the situation a whole lot better. Will definitely check them out again.

2022-04-19This venue is really cool and I loved seeing Good Kid but the staff is SO rude. The guys that were working the front door on Sunday seem to really hate their jobs. Come on guys, if you hate your jobs, just quit. Life is too short to hate your job and Id be willing to bet that everyone who had to interact with you wouldve rather not. I can understand it was probably stressful because an 18+ event is risky for the bar, but lawd have mercy you were way too grumpy and rude to people who were perfectly pleasant towards you. It didnt ruin the show for me thank goodness, because Good Kid is amazing. But.. yeah do better.
