Bat 17 in other cities:
Small (sport) bar with nice atmosphere, mostly tables and 10ish bar stools. They have a good variety of Beers (with some new ones every now and then) and some good dishes. The burgers are great and they come in really large portions (most of the food is). The wings are also good. The staff are nice and helpful, and overall its a good place to go with friends.
One of My sons favorite burger joins. We see why. He loves the chicken biscuits served on the weekends only. Biscuits are so soft and tasty. Chicken was good and crispy. We also tried the sliders and regular burger. Very juicy and buns were awesome. We tried the sweet potato waffle fries were great as well as the onion strings. They were served in a cute mini fry basket.
This spot represents everything that is great about Chicago dining! The “bar food” is superior to most burgers/sandwiches you find at major steakhouses. Major props to the chef/kitchen staff. All 6 of us that went had phenomenal meals at lunch and will be coming back most definitely. The quality of ingredients was sensational.
Our hotel recommended we try Bat 17 and we were glad we did!!! The food was great. The portions were huge!!!! The beer was nice and cold!!! The staff answered all our questions and was very helpful!!! We had the chicken nachos and some sliders. They were excellent!!! Do yourself a favor and check out Bat 17!!! We loved it!!!
If you complain about service speed, you need to remember that they dont have as much staff on hand as normal and you need to deal with it and support local. Waitresses and bartender all great! The Dude was an absolute beast of a sandwich and I wish I got 2 of them. Plus the selection of local beer is so good!
I can honestly say that the serving size of the meals are more than enough. I didn’t finish my nachos which is out of the norm because I eat like a hog. The drinks were “okay” and the bartender finally loosened up after about an hour or so. If you like table hockey there’s a decent setup in the back.
Bat 17 is the best burger in Evanston, and one of the best burgers that I have ever had. The meat is high quality, the bun is toasted, and it has all of the qualities of an amazing meal. I have also tried multiple other items from the menu, and their sandwiches are all really delicious. My favorite burger is the K2, as pictured. The service is also always very good, even though it is always busy.
Not impressed at all. Proportions on my sandwich were waaaaaay off . If youre into a boatload of kraut with a few puny slices of pastrami, go here. I can appreciate thick bread slices if the rest of the sandwich can stand up to it, but this was like the Sahara desert with cabbage. This is going to be a hard pass for me dawg .Edit to owners response: Im not griping about portion size. Read PROportion. Yes, you have plenty of satisfied review. But not possible that a bad sandwich made its way out the kitchen?
My gf and I came to the restaurant and they were very friendly and we got an awesome seat outside. We started off with the nachos which were really delicious (only critique I can make about them is I wish the cheese was poured on the top of the nachos because the cheese was mostly on the bottom of the tray for some reason as opposed to on top of the nachos). The portion of the nachos was extremely generous though and overall, we really enjoyed them! My girlfriend ordered a sesame chicken salad and tortilla soup. She enjoyed both but the soup was a bit too salty for my tasteIf there was a a bit less sodium, it would have been the best tortilla soup Ive ever had. The Salad was good too but there was a bit too much dressing (our fault for not ordering it on the side) and the chicken had an okay taste to it -- nothing mind blowing but good. I got the double Deuce. This was a fantastic choice and my girlfriend regretted not getting a sandwich. It was incredibly delicious and filling. Eyes rolling to the back of my head type good! This was our first experience here and overall, we really enjoyed it. The portions are generous and the service was great. I would say that if people come here, going with a sandwich for an entree would probably be the best way to go from my first experience here. We definitely left happy though and plan on coming back again soon!
ADDRESSING MANAGEMENTS COMMENT: Our group told our waiter TWICE about our disappointment with the service. He stared at us blankly and said sorry. I hope you realize these types of comments aimed at patrons of 15 YEARS are in extremely poor taste and paint a rather unflattering picture of your management team. The appropriate thing would have been for you to acknowledge our awful experience, profusely apologize for it (again, 7 patrons who have been going to Bat 17 since 2006!) and figure out a way to make it up to us. Tough times are not an excuse for awful service - weve all worked in the service industry - they tell you this before you walk in the door.ORIGINAL REVIEW: Our group of 7 has been coming here since we were college students - for 15 years. It has been going down over the last 5 - I believe thats when it changed ownership. Both the management and the service are atrocious and the food is now mediocre yet ridiculously overpriced. The wait staff and managements disregard for customers is next-level awful. Needless to say, they just lost 7 die-hard, loyal patrons and their families.
We were in Evanston last week. I went to lunch my wife she had a Reuben. I went with the burger omg it was absolutely delicious the fries were piping hot she had waffle sweet potato fries that she raved about for 2 days. Both sandwiches were huge. And the staff was awesome. Thanks for a great lunch staff!
Despite the fact that Bat 17 was crazy busy due to an NU vs. MSU football game happening later that day we were able to snag a 2-top table outside. The servers were working their tails off and were clearly understaffed. We werent in a rush but our server still seemed to get our orders filled in a decent time despite how busy she was. The food is good for local sandwich, burgers and other American fare. They also have a decent selection of beers (tap and bottle/can). Just be aware that if there is popular NU sports happening, Bat 17 can be packed.
Was the first customer at the Lombard location and the Reuben Burger was delicious with large portions. The sweet potato waffle fries are definitely worth the up charge. This is a great addition to the surrounding yorktown area. Cannot wait to venture through the menu.
I have ordered from this place many times and the sandwiches are normally excellent. I went there for breakfast today and the regular French toast as well as the cinnamon French toast is outstanding. The chicken and biscuit sliders were horrible. The biscuits are horribly dry and crumbly and the chicken was over cooked and incredibly dry. When told about this the waitress agreed that the bisuits were very dry and that if she orders this item she substitutes the brioche buns for the biscuits. No asking if I wanted to order something else or anything. I literally had to drink the maple syrup to be able to swallow my food.
We got take out here a couple nights ago. Everything was cooked well and packaged individually. It made it super easy for clean up! The wings were delicious and the burgers were big and cooked the way we asked. Will definitely be back, hopefully when we can dine in again.
I wanted to like this place more than I did. We did take-out for a group (6) and the results were not uniform. The burgers were ok, but the doneness was not as requested (all medium, no rare or well). The sandwiches were also ok, but nothing special. The fries (both regular and crinkle-cut sweet potato) were quite good, and the fried onions were very good, outstanding even. They fell down on the timing though. The food was done about 20 minutes later than promised. Nice and warm, as you might expect, but late.
You gotta love a burger served with a knife holding it together!I heard a lot about this place from friends and the media and had an impromptu opportunity to check it out on a Friday night. I went for the Black & Blue Burger off their very extensive menu of burgers and other options. The menu is upwards of 10 pages! This is a hefty burger! Most, maybe all, the burgers are 10oz. This baby was pure perfection in how it was perfectly cooked to my preference of medium-well. Super tender and juicy meat with tasty toppings that did not overpower the burger made for a great burger between a delicious brioche bun made from a bakery down the street. Our waitress recommended the side of “slightly spicy” bacon potato salad, which turned out to be spicy like buffalo wings and too overpowering to enjoy. Luckily, the burger was served with a side of ranch dipping sauce. All of the burgers ordered were. The menu included a wide variety of amazing sounding breakfast, sandwich and salad options I intend to go back to try. The average price of almost every option seemed to be around $14. Considering the quality and service I had, it was worth it!
I have eaten here twice (I always believe in giving a place 2 or 3 tries before making a decision) and have been disappointed both times. The first time the sandwiches were swimming in grease and had excessive amounts of cheese. (I realize that complaining about cheese might be blasphemous for some people but it was just too much.)The second time, the sandwiches were not nearly as greasy or cheesy but they left the sauerkraut off of the rueben. (I had to add extra mustard to compensate.)Overall, the fries were good and the flavor of the sandwiches were okay but I can’t justify eating here again for the money.
If youre from out of town and looking for a place to watch Da Bears play, this is the place to be! GREAT atmosphere. Fantastic service. Got the Americana breakfast - bacon, sausage, eggs, toast, potatoes. Not a bad thing on the plate! Onion strings? Amazing. 11/10 would recommend!!!
First, Bat 17 is taking COVID precautions seriously. The tables are far apart and masks are worn by waitstaff and they keep their distance. The food is bar food but at a higher level. My husband had an Acapulco Burger which he said was very good. I had a Pretzel Boy Burger which had smoked gouda, roasted red peppers, onion strings and horseradish sauce on a pretzel bun. The flavors blended well. Excellent fries and that means a lot to fry lovers. The menu has a lot of deli sandwich options and I am looking forward to trying them.
First time in this local legend. It was amazing. Great quality tastes in the food with great portions and a fairly decent bar & beer selection. You get what you pay for here. Prices arent cheap but you are getting quality large portions of food. I cant wait to go back to explore more of the menu.
Portion sizes are HUGE. We ordered two burgers. They were good. We also had the Rueben and the Cuban, both were delicious. My son loved the French fries and then ate my Dad’s onion strings. Overall, it was very good, but be prepared to spend some money. prices are steep. It would be a fun place to see a game!
Kind of stumbled upon this place after a Northwestern football game. The most important thing to know is portions are enormous and prices are higher than what most people expect from a sports bar. However, my burger was fantastic and everyone else in our party enjoyed theirs too. Service was good for being immediately after a game and the waitress had a good sense of humor!
OMG such a delicious burger. I ordered the pastrami burger. It was amazing. I have had some good burgers but holy shoot. This is one of the best meals I have had. Tater tots were great as well. Great selection of local brews. Was there on a Monday night and was slow, I bet the place is hopin on a weekend!
Bat 17s chicken salad was a decent blend of mayo chicken and other ingredients. The portions are as described... Even the regular size was more than enough to satisfy. I also ordered the pig skins with BBQ pork and those were well made and delicious. Good selection of beer on hand and was served adequately.
Surprisingly good food for a sports bar. Good selection of beers. But the most surprising thing for me was how good their vegetarian options are I should not have been since this is in a college town, but since I work here I tend to forget that 😁 if you are looking for a place to both eat AND drink, this is a nice place to go.
You cant go wrong with their great selection of craft beer on tap, complimented by a huge selection of sandwiches. My favorite is the griswald pulled pork swandwich, with spicey potato salad on the side. The food is just as good as it was 10 years ago when I first started going there. I love the place and will continue to give them my business. Note that the sandwiches are pretty large, almost two meals for the average person.
I had a turkey sandwich On rye with munster cheese. The bread was cut thick and was very fresh. Overall this was a great tasting sandwich. I also had the corn and bean salad which tasted great. My wife had the pork sliders. These tasted very good along with thec she had as a side. The food coming out of the kitchen was slow but when we visited there was a Northwestern football game going on plus it was homecoming weekend. The place was full of people.I plan on coming back another time to try one of there burgers.
This place is even better than expected. Amazing burgers, sliders and sandwiches, and a solid craft beer list. You can also get four 5oz samplers of beers on tap. Food portions are so big you will likely have some to take home for a second meal. UPDATE: Im in love with their BBQ chicken salad!
I felt obligated to review. I was in town on business for a couple days. The burgers and sweet potato fries were so delicous we came back a second time instead of venturing out and trying another place. Very very good, and filling (serving is quite large). Also had a good beer selection. Nothing to complain about.
Review for the restaurant, and not the bar side:First off, the food is decent. Generous portions of burgers and sandwiches that are generally done well. Good beer selection. Note that they serve onion strings as a side, not onion rings. The thin onion strings were simply too greasy to eat. What really drops the rating down is the poor service. Note that they have a very strict seating policy.. we asked for a table for 6 with 5 people present and 1 friend on the way. They refused to sit us even though the restaurant was empty. Besides, there are no tables for 5 people so we should have been seated at a 6 top anyway.
Giving Bat 17 FOUR stars due to food. It was great. Blue cheese coleslaw was so good and sandwiches did not disappoint. Service horrible but Im Not blaming our waitress who did her best to keep up before a Northwestern Michigan game but shame on management for not staffing accordingly. If food was average I would have rated 2 stars.
The only downside is that they did the popular hipster thing where they moved into an old factory space and added no sound dampening. When the sound is up it sounds like Darth Vader being strangled to death at a rave. Well, and they tend to have only one or two mediocre beers on tap so its just bottles.Aside from that, this is one of the best delis in town. Shocking, I know. Always order a full size sandwich, because the bread is too thick for the normal size. Box up the other half of you need to. Their pastrami is heavenly. Lean cuts of meat with just the right seasoning. My wife loves the Philly cheese sliders, which come with jalapeño. Theres always both ketchup and spicy ketchup on the table, and two kinds of mustard, plus hot sauce on request. You wouldnt expect such an amazing sandwich shop in a bar like this, but thats what it is. Order a big pastrami with a bottle of Bells Amber, load up on spicy ketchup until your nose is running from the heat. Heaven. Now if theyd just add some foam or turn down the sound.
Excellent food, big portions! I am a big fan of Bat17! Anytime were in the area, its a no brainer on where were eating. Ive enjoyed everything Ive tried here. They have vegetarian options that are excellent. Im not sure of vegan options though. Just a great place to eat in a great part of Evanston.
These sandwiches are some of the best in Chicago. Not being a native or a student at Northwestern, I can state with less bias that the flavor is really good. The portions can be really big and the balance of bread to filling is perfect.I think of this place when I am looking for a low key place to catch up with good friends in Evanston.
Great casual sandwich place in Evanston. Huge portions and large list of craft beers. The bar seating area is quite cramped so those that dont like getting cozy may prefer a table. The prices are on the higher end hence 4 star rating. 33 dollars for a chicken sandwich and 2 beers is a bit much.
Sports Bar, NU sports!!Huge menu, large and large sandwiches, so not senior friendly unless you doggy bag.Plenty of seating, heads up about grill back log, so service oriented. They do have a cutoff on breakfast: 10 PM.Huge menu, 8 jam packed pages, almost needed my reading glass :)Yes I liked Bat 17
First time here as an Evanstonian...only gave 4 because it was my first time...it was excellent..had their signature burger. Ill be back for the burger based on Pulp Fiction...I forget the name..but the menu is huge..lots to choose from! And our server was excellent as well!
Beware of the restaurant that includes a disclaimer on the menu about why prices are so high. The black and. Bleu burger was good, but $15 good? Me thinks not. I also ordered the Chicken Tortilla soup...only thing under $10?..and it bore a strong resemblance to chili. The saving grace was the free coffee and friendly waiter.
My experience at Bat 17 was wonderful. The food was great - the best sandwich Ive had in a long time. To top that off, I forgot to grab a receipt for my work expense. I called two weeks later, and they took the time to look for it in their system, scan it, and email it to me. Now that is above-and-beyond service!
Food: Enormous, delicious sandwiches! I am a fan of the meatloaf sandwich but I have never been displeased with any of the other offerings. A single sandwich with a side (approx $10) is typically enough for two meals.Drink: Full bar with wide selection of craft beers. I also tried a mixed drink here once and it was good.Interior: Dark floor and walls with warmly lit tables, tight on space but high ceilings so it doesnt feel so cramped. The small amount of space fills up quickly at mealtimes and on busy nights. Snazzy TVs!Service: Friendly but usually slow. Free self-serve tea and coffee are a nice perk though.
3 stars because the food is spectacular, Ill forget about the cold soggy fried onion strings on my cheese steak sliders that was described as pre made in the morning. They fixed em and brought them back, they were delicious. Server was nice, but we were one of 3 tables, and service was incredibly slow. 5 patrons at the bar, drinks took 7 minutes. First round came out a perfect pour, second round dragged, i went up to grab my own drinks as the bartender had just taken his sweet time to make them and take them to the well, responded that they would bring them over- thats the reason I went up to get them in the first place. So excited to try this place, as the reviews were incredible. Maybe we came on an off day, but I wont return to pay $100 for specialty burgers when service just isnt there. Disappointing
Comfortable and laid back place for a drink and food. This place has a huge menu and a great drink selection. I’m a vegetarian and was pleasantly surprised by all of the options I could have chosen for dinner. The restaurant itself is cozy and all staff I interacted with were very friendly. I’ll definitely be coming back.
The sandwiches are incredible, plus its got a great vibe. The sandwiches are extremely large, and very reasonably priced, so order accordingly. And, if youre in there for the bar, you wont be disappointing by the beer towers. Obviously its popular with NU college kids, but that shouldnt stop you if youre older - its really just a great spot to be.
Food is excellent. Portions are very generous. Great beer selection. Sunday brunches are just as good as evening dinners. Well earned reputation as one of the best restaurants in Evanston. It even opens up on the weekends into a space nextdoor with a pool hall and full bar. Cant recommend it enough
Great beer selection, and sandwiches more than fill you up. Price is very reasonable for what you get. A half sandwich usually takes care of your hunger, and a full sandwich is a kamikaze mission. Nice staff, open late as it is a bar. Slightly on the small side, so, it can get easily crowded.
Good food and beer selection the one time I ate here. Downvoted because tried to eat there today, and would not be seated at one of the three open tables because half our party was parking their car. Tried to downsize and take a smaller table, but wasnt allowed to do that either. Generally unwelcoming attitude, so we just left. Combined with mediocre service and no bill splitting, just generally annoying. Not likely to try again or recommend it to others unless in a non busy time.
This place is really good! The service is great and when I get a chance I always try to sit outside. The place is a little crowded. Amazing beers and their sandwiches and insane! Really good and I can never finish one! Great spot to get some vegetarian good and great beers with friends!
The portion sizes at Bat 17 are ridiculous in the best possible way. If its your first visit, and you feel like ordering any of their sandwiches, I advise you order half a sandwich. They also have plenty of local beers on tap. There are two sides to the place. One is more suited for lunch, while the other has pool tables and is more suited for dinner.
I have had the pretzel boy burger, Pastrami, Pulled pork nachos, Buffalo wings, and even thier cookie and brownie. All were amazing! They also have HUGE portions, even those with really big appetites will get full here. This is probably one of my favorite places in all if Evanston.
I generally like this place and have been eating/drinking here for years but after todays sandwich, I have to say enough is enough. Maybe we just dont agree on how a $13+ sandwich should be built. My opinion: bun up should be, bun/bread, then hot item (meat), cheese (so it melts on meat), then cold items (tomato, lettuce, dressing), bun. Instead, I get bun/bread, cheese, tomato, chicken, dressing, lettuce, bread/bun. It just doesnt make sense to me. Wheres the science?
Sorry, but the steak salad i ordered for delivery was not good. the ranch dressing tasted like store bought french dressing, the steak was not thinly sliced and had gobs of bbq sauce on top of the marinade. the salad itself had that browning look like it was old, or perhaps it was due to the coloring of the dressing, but a bit unappetizing. not worth the price in my opinion, most definitely not with delivery fees either, $26, yikes. but, i ate it, cuz i paid for it and i was hungry.
Nice place to grab a drink and a sandwich in downtown Evanston. The sandwiches are new York style ( piled high and thick with meat) and come in two sizes. I usually get the small size and spit it with a friend. It is a small space and can get a bit tight on weekends.
Food was ok. Seating situation was ridiculous. No Greeter at the door. No host or hostess. You were on your own for seating. Day of Northwestern game. Super busy. People waiting were forced to be like vultures circling tables. Waiting for people to finish up. Must have been annoying to people eating to have others hovering behind them.
Staggeringly enormous sandwiches and decent beer selection. The beer tower is awesomely unique, although I didnt try it, it looks like fun. Good service. A little cramped. If you use a wheelchair, you might encounter significant difficulty in navigating the restaurant.
We were in town to see MSU take on NU (spoiler, MSU won), and tried to stop by after the game to eat here. My niece is a fan of this place, but it was packed to the extreme, so we could not eat here today. I hear it is good, but it was too busy for me to say. Maybe next time.
Went for a corned beef sandwich, left pleased. Most of the sandwich options involved Russian dressing for some reason. Wasnt too keen on the home style fried potatoes (they seemed undercooked or too starchy) but the food was generally okay and the sandwich was huge. Their beer list is quite impressive. Not quite what Id call a deli, but its worth checking out.
Bat 17 is a fantastic place to have a meal. The food is fantastic because the owner of the place has made it a wonderful place to eat and in Evanston Illinois you will see that they are one of the best restaurants on everybodys paper. The food is always something unique and it was always tasty and always full filling. The volume of unique types of foods surrounded by the hamburger chicken and other beef plus a good soupy or chili makes everyone who goes there have something that they can take to their table and eat it and enjoy it completely. For a very good sandwich and unique sides this is one of the places that you want to go when you feeling really really hungry because the portions are big and the stuff they pack around the burgers and other foods and meats are just what everyone loves. I would say it is one of the most favorite places in Evanston Illinois for college students and everyone else.
The manager/owner is an awful human being who does not know how to treat other humans. He is the guy will see smiling in the pictures on the wall. There’s absolutely no reason that a manager should ever make customers feel like they are doing something wrong by being there trying to give him business. When I arrived with a large group, they made a stand to the side and wait. They then proceeded to blame us for waiting near other tables. It is a small space. The manager rolled his eyes nearly 15 times throughout our very short period of being there. There is no reason to ever talk to humans like this. I hope he gets what’s coming to him because kindness goes further than anything else in this world. If you were looking for great service and to be treated kindly, this is not the place for you.
Nice bar to hang out.Plus side: They got pool tables and a reasonable selection of beers. Nice selection of burgues but a little more expensive than I expected.Negative side: Ive been there on a saturday and around 10 they were already preparing to close (the waiter was rushing for us to close the bill).
Bat 17 was voted the best burgers in Evanston for a reason. Their buns are delicious, their patties are perfectly cooked, and the onion strings are the best accessory Ive ever had added to a burger. Their cocktails are fairly tasty and interesting, and their beers and ciders are a fair price for Evanston.
Bat 17 is an excellent example of how, with quality ingredients and preparation, burgers with somewhat standard dressings can be surprisingly elevated into something much, much more tasty. Sauce lovers with also have something to look forward to, as every table has a tray filled with different hot sauces, BBQ, ketchups, and so on. On one of the walls is also something of a hot sauce shrine, with an impressive array of various flavors and intensities. Beyond the brownie (which is, to me, almost more of a fudge) I havent been disappointed. The space itself is small and kitschy, with a large amount of (deserved) awards displayed on the walls. The service is pleasant and helpful, if not a bit rushed from what I assume is limited staff. Whether you frequent Evanston or are looking for something new and enjoyable, dont miss Bat 17.
Bat17 is at once an excellent bar, restaurant, coffee shop, and hangout spot. Jon, the best bartender ever to wield a bottle, is himself one of the best reasons to go there though; he mixes a mean drink (try a bacon Manhattan) and will keep you so engaged that you wont realize the swift passage of time. The beer selection is excellent and their sandwiches are outrageous.Oh, and free coffee at all hours.
Not the best service, the waiters looked like they wanted to get the hell out of there and failed to put on the typical facade that servers should have to enhance the customers experience. However, it was one of the best burgers Ive ever had, so that alone merits 5 stars.
Consumer Beware! I am writing this review to help others avoid the Mistake that my wife and I just made. Avoid this place unless what you desire is to leave your meal with nothing more than utter disappointment and an empty wallet. I will elaborate...My wife and I decided to give this restaurant a try based off of online reviews, word of mouth, and a supposed best burgers in Evanston rating. Upon parking and entering we were very shocked at how small and cramped the interior actually is. We found ourselves standing awkwardly right inside the door, touching shoulders with another potential customer for 5 to 7 minute with absolutely no recognition from any of the staff before finally deciding with said other customer that they must intend for us to seat ourselves.Upon sitting at a vacant table immediately to the left of the door, we had suddenly appeared on the radar of the manager who promptly walked over to very rudely at the top of his voice inform us that at least we could wait for him to clean and reset the table before we just choose to sit where we wish. Immediately taken aback we stood as the rest of the cramped customers looked over to see what the commotion was about. He took two swipes of a rag on the table, dropped two menus and without so much as an enjoy your meal left with a huff. The poor other customer apologized profusely for advising us to sit down and we tried at this point to just enjoy our meal.We spent the time prior to our food delivery watching as this same incredibly rude, bearded man put almost every customer through the same ridiculous tirade of sarcastic by all means do whatever YOU want speech after they would seat themselves because they had been similarly ignored at the door. Finally to our relief the food arrived, we could now eat and see what was so great about this food. I had ordered the Sunny Side Up Burger, medium rare with the egg over hard, my wife a BLT with a side salad. My first bite was absolutely shocking, not because this was a testament to mans ability to make an amazing flavorful burger, but because the barely cooked egg exploded yolk all over myself and the table. This was in complete contrast to the burger that had been cooked well done and had nothing that anyone could call flavor. Paired with the fatty undercooked bacon and the bland pointless potato side I can say that the best part of this meal was the pickle. My wife was privy to the same treatment with similarly bad bacon, flavorless not fresh tomatoes and coleslaw style lettuce that fell off the sandwich before you could eat it.To top off this landmark bad dining experience, when our check arrived I realized that I had just been hammered with a 35 dollar check. Needless to say, we will not be returning to this restaurant. If you find yourself in the Evanston area and want a burger please head to Tommy Nevins or The Firehouse and you can enjoy an honestly great burger at 4 to five dollars less.
My mother and I ate at Bat17 yesterday, 1st time in two years. We ordered the same corned beef sandwich as previously ordered. To our surprise the sandwich was much slimmer, 3-4 pieces of corned beef only. We made comment to our waiter and the waiter sent the manager to speak with us.The manager returned with a brown paper bag containing corned beef, tossed the bag on the table and told us now never return here again.Serious racist behavior for which has been reported to the Civil Rights Division of the DOJ!!!
I have never personally been to bat 17 but I’ve heard a lot of good things about it. I’ve done a few post mates pick up from there as well and the food always smells amazing the atmosphere is always very chill and easy to vibe with and I would suggest going there for a cool night out
I dont know that I can go back here. I saw a decent sized group hanging out there for a birthday.when they tried to bring in birthday cake, the bouncer said No Outside Food. A birthday cake? Then I saw them taking to the manager (maybe owner) and thought it would get cleared up. Nope. The manager let them light the candles and sing Happy birthday in the vestibule, but would not let them bring in the cake. Who does that? It was one of the most ridiculous rule enforcements I have ever seen.
Now this is a deli sandwich. Inspired by and to a degree connected to the famous Zingermans Deli in Ann Arbor, MI Bat 17 is sure to leave you smiling. With an extensive sandwich menu, free coffee bar (yes I did say free) and awesome desserts you will never be disappointed with a trip to Evanston for a meal here. Great on the weekends and easy access from Purple Line as well.
I would have gave this place 5 stars because the food is amazing! But we drove all the way here for the food and pool hall and they do not have pool tables like advertised! They should change their website and let people know that they no longer have pool tables available
Terrible service! Do not recommend! Not first come first serve for seating! It’s seat yourself but you must fill a table or else they move you! One window seat with a big table. Will not let you sit there without filling table! Only 2 tables were taken! Place was empty! Ridiculous!

2022-06-16Was in the mood for some wings and beer bat17 offered but so decided to have lunch here. I really enjoyed my meal ordered a burger and it was amazing one of the best burgers Ive had in a while. Our server was very attentive made sure we where taken care of. Another thing I liked the prices are just right now to expensive.

2022-03-11The food here has always been good, especially the sandwich bread. But it’s disappointing the owner has chosen to discriminate against immunocompromised people even after the mandate was lifted. (Feb 28, 2022 - this photo taken 2 weeks later) I will not be going back. They close way too early now anyway - there are other bars in Evanston.

2021-08-16The best meal deal in Evanston and conveniently located right by the Davis station. We ate outside and the burgers are huge! The drinks were strong and priced right. And if you like corned beef, you have to eat here. The Reduced Portion of the Reuben was still too large for me and my healthy appetite! I highly recommend this place!

2022-04-29Really enjoyed catching up with a friend who is in graduate school at Northwestern while at Bat 17. 🦇👨🏻🏫It was quiet and relaxing on an overcast Friday afternoon and felt like the perfect college bar for the occasion. Decked out in Wildcats purple, it seems like a fun space to visit on a gameday and I’m sure I will go back at some point. 🐱 🏈I left very satisfied after their Evanston “award-winning” burger and two Tecate tall boys on happy hours. 🍔🍺🍺Spent $25 even with tax and tip which seemed reasonable for the Chicago area. There’s no Au Cheval in Evanston which means the “K-2 Bat 17 Burger” is not playing in the big leagues, but it was a very solid burger, nonetheless. 🍔

2021-09-19Yummy food and friendly staff. Tried Bat 17 for the first time and liked the food. I got reduced size portion and it was sufficient for me. Their burgers are huge which comes with fries and pickles. Come hungry to eat all of the regular size sandwiches.

2022-06-18Corned beef sandwich! This is the spot. I only wish they opened the original half. Has a better feel and a nice bar atmosphere when eating in.

2022-03-16The burgers are huge and delicious. Great thing is they don’t make you sluggish after eating them. The parmesan tots and sweet potato waffles are good too. We received amazing service from Briana and will definitely return.

2021-05-16I started with the pretzel bites and beer cheese. I split The combination mini slider and it was so good. I picked the chicken salad with bacon, pulled pork, fried chicken, and sriracha chicken. The mini sliders are pretty big and you could easily cut each one in half. The portions are huge, indoor and outdoor seating, and an extensive drink menu. Nice spot in Evanston for good food

2021-05-20My wife saw the menu online so we swung by to give it a try. Place was clean and waitstaff prompt and courteous. Food came quickly and the plating on all dishes was fantastic.I ordered essentially a guacamole burger. Burger was huge but lacked seasoning. Multiple slices of cheese was nice but the guacamole was barely discernible. It really would be better with avocado slices to boost the flavor. I would not order this unless they made changes specified.Fries are 5 starsWife ordered the Philly which is her favorite sandwich. This was nothing like a Philly as the photo shows. It came on a french baguette with onion straws. Again a beautiful plating and artistic looking sandwich. Just not a Philly.Like other reviewers I wanted to like this place. The staff is excellent and the place is appealing. But at the $$$ range they roam in everything needs to be 5 stars and this just wasnt our experience.

2020-07-20So glad we found this gem! Delicious deli style sandwiches and amazing burgers. We had the VooDoo and the Reuben. The bread is so fresh and amazing. Very generous portions and fresh ingredients! The sweet potato and regular fries were the perfect starter. Loved their outdoor social distancing seating. This is a must stop when in Evanston.
