They never seem to find the issue to a situation. I use to like this place but its time to ACTUALLY get to see the vet. The technicians are great but I would like to start seeing the actual veterinarian. I understand because of covid that was put on hold. They are supposed to send out reminders when your pet needs their shots this time it didnt happen not happy about that. My dog has had a skin issue that they seem not to know what to do about and now hes losing hair. Just not sure of staying with them unless something changes

Banfield is not my normal vet for my 2 dogs; however, they needed to receive the canine flu shot for boarding purposes and my vet didn’t have availability to get them done in time, and suggested I try another place for the vaccine.I called Banfield South Elgin and explained the situation, and they said that was fine as long as I sent over my records, and scheduled me for both the canine flu shot and the booster dose 2 weeks later. When I arrived for my first appointment, I was THEN told they needed an exam. I explained they already had an exam within the past year from their vet and I sent over that paperwork, this was just the flu shot. They said they couldn’t do that. I was upset because I was clear with my intentions via phone, and I think the person that initially scheduled my appointment felt badly and was able to give me a coupon for a new patient visit which I appreciated, so instead I just paid for the vaccines (which are not cheap).Flash forward to 2 weeks later exactly, I bring them for their booster shot. They said they have to also have an exam. I explained they were just in 2 weeks ago for an exam, this was just the booster shot they were supposed to receive. The lady told me it’s their policy to have an exam EVERY time they come in (and of course be charged the fee!). I told her no one ever said that, and they just had a thorough exam TWO weeks ago there, this was just a booster. She asked if I wanted to talk to the manager and I said yes, of course. The manager then proceeded to tell me no place would give a vaccine without a shot, and told me when I take my kids to the doctor, they wouldn’t give them a flu shot without an exam…soooo, she either does not have kids or has never had a vaccine because you can literally go to a walk-in pharmacy and get a flu shot – that was a concerning statement.I left. I will NEVER take my dogs there again under any circumstances. The lack of communication and “nickel and dime” approach, and ridiculous policies, made me want to share this review on every platform I can to inform others.

Banfield South Elgin 07/23/2022. Banfield refuses to see owners of pets. They refuse to see pets at the Bloomingdale location. Dropped pets at S. Elgin location for annual visit. Discussed with Young lady at desk issues. (Wife gave papers regarding emergency visit of one of our dogs 2 weeks earlier which was scanned into system) they had no record of papers. Received many calls from Banfield medical staff asking questions. Same stuff I gave to receptionist when dogs dropped off. There was no communication between receptionist and Doctor/staff. Received dogs back after visit and payment to same receptionist. Arriving back to car one dogs paw/nails was bleeding badly. Went back in and showed receptionist the bleeding while holding dogs paw in a bloody towel. She grabbed a sheet of paper with a list of Emergency Vets in area and recommended I call and visit one of them. She didnt remember that less than 5 minutes earlier I paid her hundreds of dollars and she turned these dogs over to me. I had to remind her that they did this to my dog. Like someone on downers in a monotone voice sad oh and took dog to back.We will not be using Banfield going forward. Banfield seems to be cutting corners using the Covid protocols to save money and consolidate operations. This is very disappointing since before Covid they were very personable and did face to face visits so there was no miscommunication.

The scheduling at this location is horrible. I was forced to reschedule several times for my dogs ear infection. They cancelled my appointments the day before each time. After waiting for weeks!! I work full time - so when I can get an appointment I like for it to be honored. I WILL NOT go back to this location. Customer service is terrible.... no regard for peoples time.

Several years ago, we began experiencing financial difficulty when my husband was laid off. We had 3 dogs at the time, and found that we couldnt afford to bring all 3 in (yearly exam & shots) at once, as we had in the past. That meant only 1 could go on schedule, 2 would have to wait - 1 for 3 mo, the other for 6....So how do you decide who was going to be protected? Which 2 were going to put at risk? I was frustrated and felt guilty. After sharing this with our daughter who is a dog trainer, she recommended her vet, Dr Boland at Banfield. Not only did she absolutely adore her, but Banfield offers wellness plans ( covers the cost of all routine exams, tests, shots as well as a 20% discount on all non covered services, for about $35 a month).Long story short, we love Dr Boland too, and she has been our vet ever since. Along the way, we lost 2 of the worlds best dogs (both living beyond their life expectancy) and her compassion was beyond words.Although we always schedule our appts with her, on occasion a sick pet means you see another Dr - which is how we met Dr Sitkowski, who is wonderful as well. The entire staff there is outstanding, which leads me to believe that Banfield has made the effort to staff its hospitals with only the best - from front end & office staff, to the vet techs and Drs, the service and care is excellent!

I love Banfield hospitals. They are always helpful and efficient. They also take a personal interest in your furbaby.

Overall, my experience with Banfield at the South Elgin location has been extremely disappointing. I have a 6 month old puppy, so I enrolled in the wellness program. He received some of his vaccination shots during his first visit to Banfield. Being a new pet owner, I asked the vet tech what vaccinations my pup received that day and what they were for. She looked at me with a blank face and told me to ask the front desk. When I asked the front desk assistant, she directed me back to the vet tech. Yet again I went to the vet tech, and she instead directed me to the app. Now, the app was helpful, but I was very thrown off by the service. If that was my only bad experience with the vet then I could forgive and forget. Unfortunately, that was not. I tried to make an appointment not too long ago because my pup had a severe runny nose and tremors. I was very concerned considering tremors could mean a variety of bad things. The assistant who was making my appointment seemed not concerned one bit and scheduled the appointment for a week and a half out. I was upset but understanding. When I finally brought my pup in, they told me they couldnt do anything about the tremors without a video (why they didnt mention that before?), and they said his nose was not very runny but prescribed him medication anyway. Rest assured, I took my pup to another vet for a second opinion, and when I mentioned the tremors, they scheduled me RIGHT AWAY. He was diagnosed with severe allergies and is now getting the medication he needs. The new vet also assured me the tremors are intentional and not something to worry about. At the end of the day, our dogs are our family, so good customer service is VERY important for a vet hospital. Banfield gets 0 stars for that. Also, I heard horror stories from two different friends about their dogs getting neutered at Banfield, so please be careful if you are taking your pup here for that!!
