Babcocks is a wonderful place to dine. Their cheese curds are amazing. Pork pie was delicious with the pork very soft and tender. Their chicken sandwhich was also good but wish it had a slightly thicker batter with additional seasoning, but the chicken was cooked to perfection. Had the banana cream pie and was delicious with a crumb crust.
Every time I call this establishment for a takeout orderA- Dont answer the phoneB- Answer phone but cant take your order. Printer is down, card machine is broken. Always an excuse!!!Ive never heard of a restaurant who wont take orders that stays in business. Ive lived here a year and have tried to eat your food 6x now will no success. Tonight was the final straw!!
This place was such a great place to go to! The atmosphere was great and the building was gorgeous! I loved the inside! The food was incredible and you can tell they use fresh ingredients and make everything fresh to order! Ill definitely be back!Update, had the pleasure of visiting again! Had to take some pictures to show how yummy and fun the atmosphere is! I love this place!
Babcock’s Grove House is a gem hidden in plain sight on St. Charles Rd. in downtown Lombard. First, it’s located in a historical building, a hotel built in 1858 and when you step into the dining room, you do feel like you’ve stepped back in time with the décor and layout of the room. Their google description says comfort food and that’s very accurate, but it also has a very creative menu. I looked at their menu online and was instantly drawn to the blue cheese sriracha meatloaf as I was definitely in the mood for this kind of comfort food. After my wife and I got seated, we decided to order the pulled pork pie, a kind of shepherd’s pie with pulled pork, buttermilk potatoes, BBQ sauce, melted sharp cheddar cheese and veggies. It was served in an iron skillet and had great blend of ingredients and very comforting. We also had the Really Gouda Burger. I have to say, this was the best burger I have had. No frozen patties or skimpy burgers here. Also, they layered the good-sized burger perfectly so that there was not an overwhelming taste of any toping and you could really enjoy the burger. To the owners of the restaurant, ENTER YOUR BURGERS INTO A CONTEST—YOU WILL WIN! Finally, a shout out to our server, Luke. He was attentive, friendly, helpful with the menu and made us feel valued. We will be coming back and bringing others.
Fantastic burgers, seared, smash style, to perfection. Fresh cut fries are very tasty but fell short on the crispy factor. Excellent specialty pies, I tried the blueberry with crisp topping and ordered a slice of orange blossom-honey to go; which barely made it out the door. The menu is billed as comfort food, and the atmosphere matches that bill. The staff was genuine, friendly and overly-accommodating, if there is such a thing. they seemed to smile at every guest throughout the visit. There is a fairly new cocktail bar next door associated with the restaurant that was full which speaks well of the restaurant. I’ll be returning next time I travel.
Awesome place- everyone working there was friendly. The owner stopped by our table and made sure everything was great. The burgers we had were delicious. Smashed potato and the Gouda burger - both really flavorable. They also had good vegan / vegetarian options. Really cute interior with a cozy but elegant feel. Definitely a place to go back to.
Literally our favorite restaurant in the area! We havent had a single bad item on the menu, though we always end up getting the same thing over and over again - so Ill strongly recommend the Really Gouda Burger (from my husband) and the Brunch Burger (my personal fave). Curbside pickup has been unfailingly good for the past year+, and after finally making it for a lunch service, in-person was great too. Could not recommend it more!
Always a delicious meal here! I love their smashed potato burger and my wife always gets the blue cheese sriracha meatloaf. They are amazing! And of course we have to get cheese curds when we visit because theirs are the best!!We also always have such great service when we dine in and take out. We are lucky to have Babcock’s in Lombard!
A bourbon peach kombucha beer, carrot soup, and a turkey/shallot/portobello burger for dinner, all for a great price and in a hip-yet-historic environment? Yes, please! Loved everything about this place, including the cool speakeasy room. It was our first time visiting and my husband actually said, lets come back here tomorrow! So we will!
My husband and I very much enjoyed our experience at Babcocks! The food was very delicious and was brought out very quickly despite it being a very busy Saturday evening. The staff was friendly and attentive and the restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating. We will definitely be back again soon!
When you go ask for Amber. She is fantastic! Very pleasant, friendly & helpful. We started with the pretzel trio, great pretzel - soft on the inside but not to doughy with a crispy outside. The mustard dip, fondue & cheese were an incredible paring wit it. My friend had the schnitzel blt & lived it. I had the pulled pork dinner - a twist on shepards pie that is a must try. Will definitely return to try some of the other tempting dishes on their menu
Definitely one of my favorite restaurants! Everything Ive tried has been delicious and tasted very fresh. Ive especially enjoyed the turkey burger, chicken schnitzel, chicken apple brie sandwich, green goddess salad, and the pie. The service is really great and friendly, the owners are very nice too! Great place to get takeout from and definitely worth enjoying indoor/outdoor dining there (once it is safe/warm enough).
I got take out from here. Was the worse experience with food I’ve ever had! Fries were SO soggy and cold, the bun was stale and cold, the Mac and cheese looked like boiled noodles and some milk poured over it. My salmon quinoa bowl tasted so funky, I was on the toilet all the next day! For real. Thought it would be good because it had 4.8 stars.
Great Menu Selections! The BEST Curds! Loved the Beet & Goat Cheese salad (a meal all by itself!) We also tried the Bourbon Bacon pie, and Blue Cheese meatloaf (different but VERY good)! Everything was great! They are doing a GREAT job with carryout process too! Love that they dont use Styrofoam, thank you!!! Phone in order & easy pickup or deliver to car! Friendly staff too! Well definitely be back!
If I lived closer, I would go broke because I would eat here every day, which would take a long time, because the food is really inexpensive.Update- I go here regularly despite not living close and I still haven’t gone broke. Eat every food item they produce.Definitely my top go-to in the area right now.
Babcocks is the friendliest eats in Lombard. Me and my spouse went and the ambience is nice and the restaurant is small. The food is GREAT. I had a Buffalo Chicken quinoa bowl and the chicken was not overpowering with sauce and the bleu cheese complemented the bowl. We also had fried pickles which were crunchy and not super salty. And the hummus was excellent. My spouse had a Gouda burger and he said it was great. He doesn’t like restaurants but he said he would definitely return. I also had a peach bourbon kombucha beer which I thought was going to be super bubbly, but, it was like drinking an easy to taste Kevita drink….. He had a crafted cola. He said was good. Oh and the customer service was GREAT too! WE WILL BE BACK SOON! (New Date Spot!)
This place is one of the only genuinely beautiful, humble, and delicious restaurants to exist still. I feel like they hold true to the saying, some people make the worst out of bad situations while others make the best out of bad situations. Their food is amazing (and wonderfully priced), their wine selection is great, and their service is like nothing Ive experienced. Being part of a younger generation, I feel like I sometimes get the short end of the stick at restaurants because its assumed I wont tip, or whatever other reason is out there. But the servers here felt like family and just wanted my boyfriend and I to enjoy our time out. Being outside didnt even matter because the heat lamps packed a punch! The gas had gone out once and they ran out to get another one down the street...just for us! I honestly would have been happy to stay regardless. Im disappointed that Ive lived nearby and havent come by until now. If you want to enjoy somewhere that makes you feel like the world is back to normal amidst all the craziness this year and support one of the restaurants that deserves every penny, this is your place.Thank you Babcocks, and keep on keeping on!!!!
We just got drinks for the concert, but saw two things that make me think you have an awesome staff. The men’s room bathroom had overflowing trash, and as I walked out I pointed it out to a very young man. He IMMEDIATELY stepped in and cleaned it all up and apologized for it.A few minutes later I was ordering a drink and a server accidentally spilled a can of coke. He walked away (and said he’s be right back) to serve his table and MOMENTS later a young lady came around the corner with a mop. I asked her how she knew and she said “I just heard a crash and figured there would be a mess” and had it cleaned up minutes later. However you train your people to actually care... well done!Saturday 8/14 at 9:00pm.
Great service! The food was promptly made fresh. The Brunch Burger was excellent with the egg cooked to perfection. The mashroom garlic cream soup delicious. The staff was friendly and accommodating to a larger party than usual. We all had a great time and loved our food orders: cheeseburgers, buttermilk chicken sandwich, really Gouda burger, green goddess salad, cheese sandwich from the kids menu. The fries were made fresh for us.
Easily one of my favorite restaurants! Me and my family have been going since it opened, and the owner will often come out and talk to the costumer, which I find very pleasing! Ive heard he even helps out in the kitchen which is nice to see, showing he cares a lot. The food is wonderful and the environment is very relaxing. They really show off the history of the town and building. I highly recommend going with family and friends. Service is also wonderful, though sometimes you will have to wait on busier nights, but the wait is never long.
Great food and even better desserts. Seriously, their homemade pies are freaking AMAZING! Be sure to order your slice ahead of time because they run out. Food is made fresh and the menu changes seasonally which is cool. I love when they have special menu items using the veggies from their garden! Their comfort food is the best but they have healthy options too and portions are perfect. Atmosphere is hip, cozy and chill. All around love this place!
Well we ended up at this spot again (this is the 4th time) and I just wanted to reinforce my review from a year ago. This place is still Great! This time I had my whole family there and all six of us enjoyed our meals. The burgers were outstanding! The fries were not just fries...they were gourmet fries. My wife had the trio this time and it was outstanding. My oldest is my pickiest eater and her plate was empty. OH and the pretzels are the best around! My wife enjoyed her wine recommended by the owner and the kids loved the craft soda selections. Keep up the good work! We will be back to eat there soon.
Always fantastic food and service... whether dining there or ordering takeout, my family has never been disappointed! If you haven’t tried a float, we highly recommend them! They have several flavors to choose from. Even if you order it to go, they still make them special. ❤️
Babcock’s is a lovely little restaurant directly in downtown Lombard, featuring an eclectic but really lovely menu of sandwiches, bowls, and other entrees. Personally, I am partial to the Buffalo chicken bowl, which is to die for! Outdoor seating is available and quite lovely, given the restaurant’s excellent location. The staff is also courteous and attentive, all without hovering.Babcock’s insane hours are the only cause for complaint. Even in pre-Covid times, the restaurant was closed 1-2 days a week, with startlingly early closing times. During the pandemic, the issue has gotten even worse, to the point where I can almost never make it there when they’re open. It’s a shame, because it’s really a lovely place!
A great place to get some drinks and some good tavern style food. Got a nice selection of different drinks, some unique to their bar area, and some unique to their dining area. Every time Ive been here. The meals have been delicious and service has been great. The owners/managers always try to make sure you feel at home which is great because you know they care!
Incredible food, must go!!! We started with the craft sodas, my husband got the birthday cake soda, and made it a float, it was surprisingly delicious! I had the black cherry... it was really good, but I would try something else next time!We really love fried pickles, we got those to start and our server recommended the cheese curds as well... they were both very good, especially the cheese curds (we are really picky about cheese curds, they’re worth it)!!!For dinner, I got the smashed potato burger, the potatoes are really good, therefore the burger was really good! I honestly thought it was going to be mashed potatoes without the beef (not sure why I thought this) so I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived with the patty... super yummy! Fries are also very good! My husband got the buffalo quinoa bowl, but because he doesn’t like blue cheese, replaced it with their buttermilk herb dressing (similar to ranch) and it was fantastic! We purposefully took home leftovers and got dessert, the lemon blueberry crumble, SO good!!!Overall really awesome experience and we’re excited to go back to try other things (like their soup!!!)... also, really charming and historical place, very quaint! We loved it!!!
LOVE the food and beer options. Smaller cozy location but they have a good menu and tap list. Service was excellent. Despite being a little cramped they accommodated children well. Pretty causal inside. Would be a good date spot. I had a burger that was well made. The prices were reasonable as well. Parking on the weekends during the summer can be tough
We waited nearly an hour for a table of 6 on Saturday evening with the car show in full swing, the live band playing outside and the most perfect weather one could ask for. The wait was easy with a sign in process that allowed us to give our name and phone number so we could walk around and enjoy the car show and music until they sent a text message stating that our table was ready. When we were seated our server was prompt to take our drink order and her service never faltered even under the pressure of a fully packed house. She was serving other tables but she had help as they were well staffed to handle the crowd. The menu wasnt elaborate but we had a few appetizers and entrees which were all very delicious. I expected typical bar food but I was surprised with well flavored foods that were pleasing to the palate. I highly recommend this place for the quality of the food, a well organized staff and the great service thanks to our server Katie D.We will return again.
Where do I start....it was just great! Great spin on traditional foods. My wife had the Gouda Buger and she raved about it....I got to try a morsel, which was great! I had the pork schnitzel which was awesome. The Mashed potatoes and roster veggie complimented it very well. I liked the fact that the pork was sliced thin, not tenderized like other places. It had a little more chew to it, like a real piece of meat, which made me happy. We had the pretzel with 3 different dips, it also was very good. All the food came out hot and very well seasoned. The service was excellent. The owner Steve stopped by to see how everything was which was nice. Seating was comfortable decor was nice. Beer, wine and drink selection was extensive. Many gluten free and vegetarian options. I hope this place does not change anything. We will be back again.
This unique place has a nice menuof sandwiches and burgers . I had a blue cheese burger which was very good, except it could have used more cheese. More meat could be used also. Flavors weregreat. Sandwiches looked tasty. We had a teenage girl server. She was awful. Otherwise, Irecommend this restaurant. Iveno idea what its like for the dinner.
Tried this out after doing some shopping in Lombard and we were pleasantly surprised. We started with the Beer Cheese soup - delicious! Then I had the slider trio which included a great buffalo chicken slider, delicious pulled pork and a juicy burger. All great but I could only eat two and took one home. The fries are good and very crispy. The atmosphere is great and they have outdoor seating. A good place, for sure!
It looks like a boutique store from outside and a coffeehouse when you go in, but its a restaurant that excels in contemporary American cuisine and uses all sorts of artisan foods to get there. The beer cheese bacon burger was so filling that I couldnt finish the fries that came with it, and the beer cheese soup that my friends had is something Im ordering the next time I go. The cheese curds we ordered as an appetizer was excellent as well. And yeah, they have coffee - as well as an ample craft beer and wine list. Highly recommended.
The food was delicious and the owner was wonderful. We ordered over the phone and picked up our food within a half hour. The owner was wonderful and very friendly. I cant wait until we get to dine inside the restaurant once this stay at home order is all over. We will definitely be back again!l
Delicious food (we had the pretzel app with the slider sampler, and chicken schnitzel sandwich for dinner), friendly and attentive staff, and cozy atmosphere. The B**ch Slap vanilla beer was one of the best micro brews Ive had in a while. Our server even brought us a single serving of a grape soda float for my boyfriends birthday that she found out we were celebrating, which was a nice surprise. They dont take reservations so we waited for about 20 minutes on a Tuesday night at the bar trying their variety of beers which were all tasty. Excellent spot! Looking forward to coming back and trying more from their menu.
Its a place where the food and the service is consistently excellent. The menu varies, and its never boring. My favorite foods are the Cheese Curds, the Chicken Schnitzel, and the Turkey Burger. Of course, every one weve ever taken there insists that whatever they ordered was the best. I have many more dishes to explore. Be sure to order the fries, although the side salad you can have as an option is yummy too. You wont be disappointed!
FYI, there is a secret room under that building loaded full of bottles (mostly broken) from the prohibition era. The entrance is a hatch next to the door on the north side in the center (I think the flower pot covers it). Old coal room I believe. The piece of railing from the roof from when it was originally build thats at the historical society was something I pulled outta there with the help of my father and Bruce who had an antique shop there in 1980 or 81. Party on dudes!!!
Super comfy atmosphere. The food was a bit disappointing though. I had the pulled pork pie and there was no seasoning to it, very bland. My husband had the blue cheese sriracha meatloaf and said the same thing about that, there was just creaminess from the cheese without the nice blue tanginess, and no kick from the Sriracha. Our fried pickles were excellent. Well be back to try the burgers since those get the rave reviews.
My first visit today will not be the last, for sure. It started with a welcome environment, greeted by the staff who seemed genuinely pleased for me to be here. Custom orders or changes from the standard do not seem to upset them. On the other hand they try to get your order the way you want.Delicious, completely fresh made food and accompaniments. On offer are reinvented popular pub dishes to enjoy or to share. Small plates, soups and salads, sandwiches, burgers and many more.Nicely executed dishes are aesthetically pleasing to the eyes as well as to the palate. The staff checks up to make sure everything is in order. The environment is wonderful including the historic building that houses the facility. Although small in size, Babcocks does not feel crowded. Outdoor seating in season is an added attraction.
Great staff, great location an d great food. From burgers to salads, everything is very fresh and has great flavor. Always enjoy sitting outside and enjoying a meal and a cold beer. Certainly highly recommend it for anyone looking to spend some time in downtown Lombard.
Five stars for the menu and the service. But I would say that the sweet potato bean patty sandwich could use some flavor. The yogurt sauce makes it even sweeter and avocado makes the texture bit bland. But would go there again. So don’t change anything on my account because everything is delicious there and the service is amazing.
Really nice restaurant in an 1852 building. I had a pulled pork sandwich with gouda, fantastic! The fries were perfect, a little crispy with a perfectly soft inside. Carrot and cumin soup was delicious too. My date had a sweet potato burger that was too mushy. Small but good quality beer and wine menu.
We love Babcocks! I went once just after looking up new restaurants to try and then went five more times within the next month with family and friends. Its a true crowd pleaser with a delicious menu and home like atmosphere. Love love love the quinoa bowls, burgers, fries, and pretzels just to name a few things. Everything is good here and they have a great selection of adult beverages.
With the very solid reviews I may have gone in with too high expectations. The atmosphere was cool. Well styled. I had the sliders but didnt particularly enjoy any of them. Good fries, though. My wife had the Gouda burger and she enjoyed hers more than I did mine. Shed go back. Im indifferent.
Weve been here several times, dining outside. This place is an absolute gem. From the cold pressed lemonade, and goat cheese and beet salad to any of thier delicious entres. My wife and I found this place and were originally keeping it secret from the kids, but eventually we brought them along. They love it as much as we do. Weve yet to order anything that doesnt make us say, omg this is so good. The staff is pleasant and super attentive, and every time weve been there weve observed the owner taking an active role in the operation, making sure that everyone is satisfied with thier experience.Id give this place 6 stars if it were an option.
This place has a really great atmosphere and some of the best staff ever. Not to mention, their food is to die for! Our group had the pulled pork pie, black cherry cola, the bacon beer-cheese burger, and the pork schnitzel-wich. Everything was amazing and we cant wait to go back to try more!
Some of the best food around! Everything is hand made from the food to the fountain drinks! The owners are some of the nicest people you will ever meet! They make our huge family of 6 feel special and welcome every time we go there! They even stop us on the street just to say hi if they happen to see us! I cant say enough how great this place is! Dont miss an opportunity to eat here!
Great food and service at a nice location. Good outdoor seating area and nice interior for all weather eating. The homemade desserts are incredible and they have a great craft beer menu. Get a seat outside or near a window for a great view of Lombards Cruise Nights while you dine.
Great food, great experience, great people. The food was really good and the service was very quick. Everyone was really kind and the owner/manager even came to ask us about our meal. Definitely coming back. Also, great outdoor seating, a great place for a date night.
We enjoy this place. It is true to the history of Lombard. It offers very tasty, and often healthy, food. While I no longer drink, the beer selection is decent, offering some great local/ craft options. I cant offer up any glaring flaws of the place. I definitely would recommend this restaurant.
I dont typically review anything online but after around 10 visits to Babcocks Grove House I have to leave a review. I cant say that Ive had a disappointing experience, at times there is a wait since its popular but seating usually happens pretty quickly. While I cant speak about the whole menu which offers the regular American fare the quality of the food is always fantastic; the burgers are particularly awesome! Considering the mediocre food everyone eats at a chain Ive always felt like I get a fantastic meal at a very affordable price, the staff is friendly, and Ive often shared my compliments to the owners who take great pride in Babcocks. I highly recommend a visit!
I frequent this outstanding restaurant from time to time as I enjoy the good mood that is outline this restaurant. The team is very loving and experienced. The service is awfully rapid. Not to mention, the food they serve is first-rate. I visited often and I was never disappointed. The rate is decent. I highly suggest this place to to everybody.
Always awesome service & great food. Every time Ive been here, the owner has stopped by the table to ask how everything was and to chat. It is also authentically local, from the beer selection (featuring Noon Whistle beer brewed in Lombard) to the decor. Sets the bar for local dining. Also, make sure to try the cheese curds.
Very friendly staff, Chris our waiter was very polite and courteous, he suggested the cheese curds as an appetizer, excellent choice, they were delicious. Had the Babcock cheeseburger. Hands down the best burger Ive ever eaten. Sat outside with the wife, nice ambience and weather. Good selection of wines and beer. We will definitely be going back in the future. Great little place to eat or drink.
My boyfriend and I had dinner here while looking at places to rent in the area. The food was fantastic, the service was fast and friendly, and they have a great selection of local and craft beers. The owners did a great job of balancing a modern, trendy vibe with the historic charm of the building. Thanks for helping us fell right at home in our soon to be new area.
There are so many things to enjoy about this restaurant. Thank you for bringing another restaurant to downtown Lombard and with a historic flair. I love the art on the wall of local famous residents; check out the portraits. The food offerings are great though Id be more partial to some organic meat options; they do have an organic wine. I havent had anything bad there and Ive had several choices on the menu, but I think I like the firebird chicken best. Cute decor, outside seating and good food. Great!
Had a delicious keto option that made my weekly lunch with co-workers both convenient and delicious. Love the burgers and fries while cheating and the staff is always friendly and accommodating. Little rough on cold days though, the cold breeze of opening the front door hits the entire restaurant.
Cozy little place with healthy and hearty food options. The menu is on the small side but it was hard for my husband and I to choose what to eat, as everything sounded great. They also have a kids menu and highchairs for little ones, as well as local beer options. I would definitely recommend this place and plan to visit again.
My wife and I came last Friday with two other couples. The staff was awesome; we were all yammering away for two rounds of drinks before ordering our dinners, never once did we feel pressured to order. When we finally did; and the food came, everyone loved what they ordered. I had the bratwurst and mashed; I was in heaven. Bravo Babcocks! Youve got it right! Cant wait to come back, food was wonderful.
Babcock has a friendly atmosphere and delicious food! The Bell’s IPA Battered Cheese Curds are crispy and cheesy and oozing with deliciousness. My favorite item on the menu is the Chicken, Apple, Brie sandwich. It comes on toasted sourdough with a ‘to die for’ balsamic reduction. My husband prefers the Smashed Burger, which is a fresh, juicy, hand made burger topped off with buttermilk and chive mashed potatoes. Add a locally brewed beer to any sandwich for a fantastic, comfy, cozy meal. Oh....and don’t forget to get a delicious slice of home-made pie! It’s the best part of the meal!
Had lunch with my friend and his family visiting from Phoenix. All of us loved the food and were so impressed with the outstanding service by Steve, Kat/Cat, and Kayla! The salad ingredients were super fresh, and the burgers were delish! Keep up the great work, Babcock’s! I’ll do my part to spread the word and will be back with more friends in the near future for sure!
Had a quiet dinner with my cousin last night and was intrigued by all the entrees. They all sound so good I must go back to try them all. I had the turkey shallot burger and it was exceptional. The Octoberfest beer selection was great too. I will definitely go back and bring friends!
Not normally one to rate things, but this place is top notch so I felt inclined to. Cozy and modern feel inside, great patio seating outside. Slider trio is outstanding, couldnt pick a favorite from the 3, decent beer list and an awesome and very hospitable staff. A gentleman who I assume was the GM/Owner even stopped by to see how everything was, something unexpected from a casual lunch spot. Ill definitely have to come back for dinner.
Recently moved to Lombard. Super impressed with Babcock’s Grove House. Really cool environment, small but does not feel cramped for inside seating. Food was extremely tasty. Service was also top notch. Have been twice so far and the burger and chicken sandwich I’ve ordered have been some of the best I’ve had. Prices really good for such quality food Owner Steve also came by to say hi which I appreciated.I see myself coming in to Babcock’s quite frequently. I really don’t have a bad thing to say!
Located in a historical building, Babcocks is a great place to eat a meal. Ingredients are locally grown and organic. Both burger eaters and vegetarians will find something on the menu to please their palate. Brews and flavored colas available. Clean bathrooms. One hitch is finding a close parking place because the block is short and the customers abundant during peak hours.
Secrets of the In-Crowd: Amazing flavorful homemade pies baked fresh daily with love by the owner. (Changes daily, Cannoli pie is a current favorite on nights where it makes an appearance, if you can imagine such brilliance.)Hospitable Young Staff with friendly owner and managers that are always present and chatting with the locals.Unique and functional identity as a restaurant in Lombard. American Food with a German influence- What the people want plus just enough craft specialty. Cuisine and restaurant identity matches the history of the town and the tasteful decor tells the story of Babcocks Grove (now known as Lombard).Food is just the right amount of blue collar and straight forward, while still demonstrating a finer aspect, and showing the love of the chef.Cant say enough good things about this well run, well stewarded, well staffed, restaurant from top to bottom. Theres not a lot of turnover (which is rare!) and thats a definite sign of a well staffed, well run restaurant that takes care of its workers. Busiest times are Thursday-Saturday Night, but theres a good dinner crowd every night. (Closed Sunday and Monday🙌, I whole heartedly approve!) This place is quickly becoming, or has already become one of the best restaurants in the area. They do a few things well, while offering fun changes here and there, and dont try to get too big for their britches. (Have a burger, grab a beer, and be happy.) Guests leave happy and you can even reserve that piece of pie before your meal, if youre nice to your server. Guests also come back to eat or order take out night in and night out...Its a great cozy place to go hang with family or friends for dinner or just to grab a local beer or glass of wine while chatting about your week. (Bar Space is limited to 5-7 seats, so they recently opened a brand new cocktail bar right next door 🍸to solve their lack of bar space!)Ive had the Beer Cheese Burger, Pork and Chicken Shnitzel, the Schnitzel Burger, Homemade Pretzel, Hummus, Smashed Potato Burger, and am steadily working my way through the menu. The Beer Cheese Burger is my favorite Burger, but the signature Shnitzel Dinner is just lights out delicious comfort food. Fries are good, though sometimes I swap out for the grilled and roasted vegetables. You also have the usual option of mixed spring greens. The Chicken Shnitzel sandwich is a staff favorite and has the perfect ratio of ingredients, chicken and bread to create a flavorful well designed sandwich that you can still hold with one hand. Everything Ive had was good.
Everythings homemade. Had a hard time choosing. Menu changes all the time using fresh local ingredients. Beer selection is mostly local. Its small so call ahead to find out the wait time and ask to put your name on the list ahead of time. We were able to have a slice of the homemade pies that the owners wife occasionally makes. If theyre available TRY A SLICE! We had her Buttermilk Chocolate Rum pie. It was PHENOMENAL!
Aside from the outstanding food--the smashed potato burger, the buffalo chicken, the fries--their entire operation is built around providing diners with a positive, family-oriented experience. During one visit, my order came out wrong--it may have even been my mistake while ordering--but they apologized and insisted it was their fault, expedited the dish I wanted, and let my wife and I keep the mistake dish at no cost. Sure enough, even the mistake was tasty. I highly recommend Babcocks. Just walking in, you feel like this restaurant understands the neighborhood its in and the culture that surrounds it.
We called 1.5 hours ahead of our arrival to put in reservations and were told to wait until we were 10 minutes away to get on the wait list. 10 minutes away we called and were told it was not needed. We get here and nobody knew who gave out that info. We are now waiting 45 minutes. Finally we get a text and now we cant bring in drinks purchased on the street (whiskey based, not in competition with what they serve). So fast very unimpressive on how they show customers how valuable they are to their success.
I had such a positive experience here, Im certain there will be many happy returns. The interior is such a classy and clean tribute to the Village of Lombard and the menu is incredible. I had the Chicken Schnitzel sandwich and it was amazing! The menu has so many delicious and creative options, Ill have quite a bit to consider on my next 45-minute drive into Lombard. Babcocks Grove House is well worth any commute, and is a new gem in downtown Lombard!
My friend and I met here for lunch a few weeks ago. Id never heard of it and Im very glad she suggested it. The decor is unusual. Kind of turn of the century with tin ceiling tiles, big ceiling fans and interesting light fixtures. The staff was friendly and helpful and more than anything their food was complex and delicious. If youre looking for an interesting place with delicious sandwiches, salads and burgers give Babcocks Grove House a try. Its down the street from the Lombard train station in downtown Lombard.
We Love this quaint, family owned, local business that is filled with Lombard history and tons of character and most of all delicious home made entrées!!Everything from there smash burger to their quinoa bowls are fantastic. A good selection of local brews and wines are on the menu and there is a good chance that every time you go there you will be greeted at your table by one of the super awesome and friendly owners. We ❤️ Babcocks!!
Tonight was our 3rd visit to BGH and it didnt disappoint. I had their new Fall burger, Shepards pie and it was amazing!! Not sure whats in the mashed potatoes portion, but I was dipping my fries in what spilled off my burger. The kids menu is great too! My kids love the banana split sandwich. We will definitely be back!
Delicious comfort foods imaginatively plated and created! Using locally sourced produce and other ingredients as much as possible, Babcock serves up original and tasty fare every time. My favorite so far was a burger topped with mashed potatoes... Mmmm! Great local find. ❤️
This is the best place to eat in downtown Lombard. For starters, they always have great local beer on tap. The owners operate the restaurant (hostess and chef). Menu is smaller but well put together. Schnitzl sandwich is my favorite! Dining room is not huge so arrive early.
This is THE place to go in Lombard for wonderful, fresh comfort food with a gourmet twist! The owners, Steve and Dana, so graciously agreed to having us host a baby shower for my daughter at their beautiful restaurant. Although it wasnt something they were planning on branching out in doing this soon after opening, they were so accommodating in helping us plan just the right menu for our group of 40. Everything was flawless! Lauren, Rob and Isabelle took great care in serving us and Steve and his kitchen staff made sure that the food not only looked like it belonged on the pages of your favorite cooking publication but it tasted SO-O-O-O GOOD! The BEST turkey shallot burger, French onion grilled cheese, assortment of autumnal influenced salads, Lilac Princess floats and DONT FORGET THE CHEESE CURDS ever! I can say without a doubt that Babcocks gave our party all the care and attention to detail that they give each of their customers on a daily basis and made this special time even more meaningful. Cant wait till the grandchildren are born and old enough to have their first Lilac Princess Float at Babcocks! Only problem I had with this review is that there were only 5 stars to give.... You guys are THE BEST!
Food was excellent although the overall layout is terrible. Counter service seems like a good idea on paper but they would have made more money and I wouldve been happier with my experience with a standard server setup. Wouldve been five stars if not for counter service.
We just left resturant with intentions of never going back . A family of 5 with 2 kids were told there would be a 25 min wait. After seeing a party of 7 and 2 smaller parties sit minutes after they arrived we started to ask how much longer. We were told to go to the coffee shop across the street if the kids needed to run around. 35 minutes and counting and a very hungry 4 year old we were told the people in front us had reservations. We have been told multiple times they do not take reservations. We were looking to spend a good amount of money including 3 to go orders for out of town guests. We have enjoyed the unique food and personable service in the past but I cant even express my disappointment in tonights experience .
This is the BEST FOOD IN THE WESTERN SUBURBS. Sorry for the caps but it cannot be stressed enough. Because of this - it is busy busy busy, but worth the wait. Their seating is extremely limited and they do the best they can with the small space they have. Believe me when I tell you - it is worth waiting for.
Fabulous new addition to downtown Lombard! Great, unique burgers, sandwiches and salads along with impressive wine and beer lists will make this restaurant your new go-to! Im a big fan of the sweet potato burger with a glass of Frogs Leap Sauvignon Blanc. The dishes are filled with interesting and fresh combinations. The owners Dana and Steve make you feel comfortable and at home. A definite plus!
Staff was unbelievable accomondating for my family of 6. We had a wait and they were extremely nice and always making sure we were taking care of. Most restaurants don’t care that there is wait, not here they were so pleasant and made the wait worth it.Food is amazing and just a great atmosphere.

2022-02-25The burger had good flavor. Its like a smash burger so its thin. The burger is a bit over priced though. I didnt like the fries, the were kind of soggy. Definitely be better if they par cooked/poached them first to add a crisp. I really like the bacon alot. I probably wouldnt come back but I did enjoy the food.

2022-03-31My husbands and my favorite Lombard spot! I always go for the Unity Vibration Kombucha Beer, but their wine selection is usually good too. You also have to get their cheese curds. so good. All of their food is awesome. The place has a great ambiance. The owners and staff are super nice! Weve been coming here for 6 years and will definitely miss it when we move.

2021-09-09First time eating here I always drove by and it’s busy in the summer. The place looks really cute from the outside! We ordered beef sliders and salmon quinoa bowl my fish so tasty and I really loved the sesame dressing with the cucumber and avocado my two favorite! We each had a glass of wine and the total was $60 so it’s not cheap lunch. But there are really healthy and delicious options as well as bar food.

2021-08-04This was a great place to grab an early dinner with my folks! We sat outside- their outdoor seating is really pleasant. They dont do regular sit-down service; we went inside and told thdm we were sitting down, got our own menus, and went back in to place our orders and pay. The waitress did bring the food out (we carried our drinks after ordering) but no one checked to see if things were ok. Thats ok, just make sure youre not expecting a full service place. The food was amazing (it always is) and the plates were cleared before we left. The food is just fantastic, and its pretty reasonable priced. Definitely somewhere you should try if youre in the area!

2021-12-01My wife and I are house hunting in various suburbs and we ran into this gem in downtown Lombard. Service was super friendly, loved the atmosphere and music. The food and drinks were spectacular. If we end up finding a reasonably affordable home in Lombard, my wife and I are convinced we will be frequenting this place weekly. The meatloaf was incredible with the blue cheese and sriracha.

2022-04-23The food was so good as always! Mediterranean salad, and bacon burger! The outside patio is just opening. Remember to go inside and put your name on the list to sit outside. So people dont just walk up and claim your table like they did to us and 2 other people after we have been waiting for it to be cleared. 🤦♀️

2022-03-17An amazing place! Our waiter, Luke, was helpful, friendly, and seemed to know just when to make an appearance. The food was delicious, our appetizer arrived within minutes of being ordered, and our food shortly after ordered as well. They have a respectable craft beer selection, and the prices were very reasonable!

2022-05-17Our food & the service was great! I had the Asian Salmon Salad; which was delicious. And my fiancé had a classic cheese burger with bacon and really enjoyed it. I also had the garlic mushroom soup, and was awesome. I forgot to take pictures.

2022-04-19We came from Georgia for me to have a procedure done and we stopped by here for dinner. The food was AMAZING and the staff was so personable! The owner gave us a tour of the place and told us about the history of the building. It was such a great experience! If we’re ever back in the area we will definitely be coming back!
