Sharon does the most amazing color. I get highlights and last time we also did low lights. My hair is hard to lift but she does an amazing job. I absolutely love it!
Amazing place, I recommend it to anyone who asks. The haircuts are very reasonably priced, the service is great, and the quality of work is high. Every barber/hair stylist Ive seen when I go there has given me a great haircut. I also really enjoy the old-school barbershop feeling that I get when I walk in.I intend to keep coming here for as long as I live in Evanston, and will go out of my way to come here for as long as I live in Chicagoland.

Andrea is the best! Ive gone to numerous salons for a haircut but none even come CLOSE to Andrea. She listens to what I want and gives me the perfect cut every time! Highly recommended
I have been going here for years, and wouldnt go anywhere else. I get my hair cut by John, the owner. He is an expert barber - happy to do whatever you want, but skilled enough to make suggestions that make sense. We have experimented with traditional cuts and more modern styles. And while I always go to John, I find everyone who works there is super friendly and welcoming. Great haircut at a great price at a great place with a great vibe. Cant go wrong!

Best value! Best style! Best service! I still drive 25 miles each way to get my hair cut by John and have for 36 years. There is nowhere I know where you can go and get a wash, style and dry for just over $20.

I have been to Avenue Hair a few times over the last few years and did not have a bad experience until I met the owner. While he was giving me a haircut (circa October 2020, before the late fall/winter resurgence of COVID), he was trying to engage me in a conversation about the epidemic with some very ignorant talking points. This was easily the most uncomfortable I have felt with a hair stylist.A few weeks later my wife re-shared a meme about COVID on her Instagram. Avenue Hair was following her on IG, and made another ignorant comment about COVID, exactly like the owner had a few weeks prior with me.I am incredibly sympathetic to small business owners during this pandemic. However, the owner of Avenue Hair has misdirected his anger to those who want to limit the spread of the virus. He should be upset about the lack of stimulus from the government to keep his business open, and should be trying to keep not only himself, but his employees and customers safe. Needless to say, we will not be giving him any more of our business.
Service is always great. The beautician listens to what I need in my haircut & cuts it just right. The price is right for services rendered. The wax jobs are thorough.
It was my first time at Avenue Hair, My cousin who usually cuts my hair wasnt available to I decided to try this place out, AMAZING!!! To start off- everyone is so nice and welcoming! Andrea washed my hair and did exactly what I asked her to.. she didnt cut off too much but still made it look like I got a haircut because of all the height and volume from the layers she gave me. Even though I told her she didnt have to dry it because my hair is thick and would take long for her she didnt mind at all! Girls- if your even looking for a nice blowout I recommend going there! I got many compliments when I got back to work and sent them Avenue Hairs number and location.Definitely going there again next month to see Andrea and Becca for hair!

Just went to this place for the first time and got a great haircut for a great price ($29)! They take walk-ins so I called to make sure someone was available, walked over and was taken care of right away. I was apprehensive to get a haircut bc the last one I got elsewhere was awful but the stylist at Avenue followed my instructions exactly and fixed any remnants of the bad previous cut. I will definitely be going back!
My mom, dad, sister and I have been going here for some time and always have a great experience. My friends and I come in to get our hair done for dances and all the stylists have done a good job every time. Great place for the whole family
No matter what I have had done, cut, color - I have been beyond happy with the results. I highly recommend the shop period, and more so Sharon - she is terrific!
Worst haircut in my life: Not personalized to the individual head form, no questions asked during cutting, put styling products without asking, you will face the mirror at the opposite wall several feet away (no chance to see whats going on), and at the end they give you a little mirror to view the damage. Apparently charging different rates to different customers, have a big Northwestern logo in the window but no Wildcard discounts?, cash only without receipt to save on taxes. $18.5 for 10 minutes of work.
John is the greatest. He gave me good tips for my hair type, and was very thorough on top of being a super interesting lady. I walked out feeling beautiful and recharged. 5 stars

This is the best haircut joint in Evanston, period. The Emrich family (me, my 3 kids and my wife) have been getting awesome haircuts here for more than 15 years. Everyone does a fabulous job, so ignore the haters and give it a try!!!!
Great walk in service and appointments. They have a wonderful playroom in the back, do not fear coming in with the kids while you get an amazing haircut. This is definetly the place to come with the entire family.

If you go in dont have linda cut your hair. I went in asking for a small trim of 1 inch or less and walked out with about 4 inches of hair cut off. Very VERY dissapointed as I have been growing out my hair for 4 years for cancer, and now I am back to square one.

2022-05-15Ive tried multiple barbershops, and Ive been largely disappointed by their results. Not the case at Avenue Hair. Theyre all great at what they do, the environment is healthy, family friendly, and they dont waste time like so many other places.

2021-04-02My wife and I had an excellent experience with Gaby. My wife is Asian, and its difficult to find someone who can cut her hair well, but she was very pleased with Gabys cut. My hair is more straightforward. I simply showed Gaby a photo, and she did a terrific job. She paid extra attention to the thinning I requested, and she added her own touch to ensure my cut looked great, and that I would be happy. The price of cuts were very reasonable, and there is plenty of street parking available. If you drive a block in either direction of Chicago, its free. I highly recommend Gaby and we were lucky to find her working on the day we make an appointment. Make sure you ask for her appointment schedule when booking. I hope you enjoy your cut as much as we did!!

2021-09-07One of the worst hair cuts I’ve ever had in my life. I’ve showed her the hair cut I wanted in a picture which was faded sides 0 from the bottom. And I’ve had nothing looks like the picture I’ve shown. I never left a place crying or feeling down about myself. Which will end up with wearing a hat for the next couple weeks. I do not recommend this place at all.

2021-07-08Good place if you’re going for a really simple cut. Lower price than others in the area, but it is cash only. Would not recommend for skin fades or other more complex men’s cuts. I was out within 15-20 minutes, but wasn’t up to par with the other fades I’ve gotten from more traditional barbershops

2020-11-10Got a good-looking hair cut for a reasonable price. Cant recall the name of the woman who cut my hair, but she was quite friendly and professional. Since I only got a simple buzz cut I cant speak to the quality of more complex stuff, but for simple hair cuts as a good price, I would recommend here.

The stylists and barbers at Avenue Hair are truly talented, and my hair always looks great, for a good price. They always do a great job washing hair and recommend products that help my hair look great everyday. The people there are from my own heart, and the salon has a strong sense of community.

2021-02-06I have had good experiences previously, but the haircut I received today (now about a year ago) was poor. I had to go home and try to re-cut my hair to minimize the defect made during the cut. Maybe it was an off day, but it felt rushed and overall left me feeling very dissatisfied. I did make the mistake of not checking the hair at the location, albeit she did not offer the mirror, and now I know why.Since the bad haircut, I have only reserved ahead of time with people I know offer good haircuts; if you have a person who you know gives a good haircut, always book with them. Since then, I have had no complaints.
