This place is great! Deron was super helpful and gave me great deals on what I needed to get done. All the staff were very nice and helpful. They got everything done very quickly and professionally. I have been going here for 4 years because of the great service.When I said I didnt have time to get some work done in champaign because I had to go home, the manager called the store in my hometown to make sure Id get the same deal. Great people!
The staff at the University Avenue Car-X Tire and Auto in Champaign, IL were gracious and kind enough to squeeze me in at nearly the last minute for an oil change and a diagnostic on my car. They were also thorough and friendly as well. I recommend them to anyone needing an oil change or other car maintenance.
Took my truck there after dealing with electrical gremlins for a month or so. Took it there on a Saturday at noon picked it up Monday at noon. They were able to recommend me to a specialist who fixed my truck in about 30 seconds flat! ( very specific issue) Donald is a life saver at y’all’s shop! Definitely need a pay raise
Earlier this week I visited Car-X for a much-needed repair. Both the manager and the mechanic who performed the work were polite, knowledgeable, and attentive. The repair was completed in less time and at less cost than I had imagined. I heartily recommend Car-X on University Ave.
I highly recommend this location. I brought in a tire with a screw in it to be repaired. The staff was very friendly and helpful. I was in and out with a fixed tire in 10 minutes without an appointment. I will continue to use this location in the future because of the great service.
Horrible experience. Mechanics told me my car was ready twice and had me leave when it was unsafe to drive. Also was treated rudely and told not to come back in with that attitude ever again.Another shop had to redo things this CarX did and replace parts that they should have.District manager was told of the problems and never got in touch with me to offer even an apology.I would (and did) drive miles out of my way to avoid this shop.
Oh the madness! After several failed attempts to remove a tire I was referred here and SUCCESS! Not only did they remove the bad tire and get the good tire on they were also very friendly, goofy, and welcoming. I unfortunately didn’t catch all of the mens names but I thank Darren (sorry if I spelled your name wrong) and his crew for helping me out today! Thank you THANK YOU!!
I went to this place 3 years ago in Aug 2019 when my car stopped working because of a bad battery connection. I had it towed and they took few hours to fix it. I paid around $100 for the repair and the car had no issues. Fast forward 3 years and I had an issue with my car battery. I took it to autozone to get it changed. As soon I pulled out the old battery, out came a soda can tab which was inserted between the battery terminal and the wire connector. The autozone guy asked me if I did that, and I narrated the CarX story. Then he showed me a $3 battery sleeve which should have been used instead. And guess what my alternator had gone bad too. I don’t know if it was related to the poor connection due to the soda tab. Anyways this is highly unprofessional. I’m not going back there again.
I did my oil change on 11/03/2021. I also asked them to check the right rear tire and did the tire rotation. I was pretty sure my rear right tire was leaking because I needed to pump the air in every few days when the tire pressure light was on.They didnt do the tire rotation at all and they also didnt check my tire. After the service, my right rear tire was still leaking the air. So they dont even bother to check and just assumed my tire was fine because my tire pressure light wasnt on when I brought my car in. But I told the technician to check it! The right rear tire was not changed to another place, so it means they didnt do tire rotation neither. They are very unprofessional.I will never go to this store again.
Super super friendly and professional!I got a nail in my tire and the pressure went down to 4. When I arrived the receptionist told me that there are several tires ahead of me, and that I could not get it down today. I could not risk to drive home with a pressure of 4.However, the repair guy was super nice. He took the nail out, patched my tire and didn’t charge me a dollar, because “it only took him some minutes”.I would definitely recommend and go to this place for any car issues!
I had an amazing experience at CarX thanks to a gentleman named Darren who kept me updated about the status of my power steering situation. Although I was not happy to deal with this sort of issue l, his mechanics explained the situation to me professionally when the work was over.
My experience with this company has been phenomenal! I had to have my headlight replaced earlier this year and just this past weekend and Chad saved me over $6 hundred dollars. The dealership wanted to charge $175 per hour ( because they said they had to drop my bumper to replace the headlight). I called and spoke with Chad and he got it done both times for little to nothing! And it only took the tech 3mins to replace this last time. I highly recommend Car-X and I they have gained a lifetime customer!
Most terrible experience of our car maintenance ever! We made an online reservation for Tuesday and then they told us they were all full and need to reschedule to Wednesday morning on Monday. When we arrived on time Wednesday morning, they had an excuse again! They told us there was a long line that day and probably need to wait till noon or even later to do oil change of our car. We were departing to a road trip on Wednesday evening, so we called at 1 pm to see if the maintenance was done. Guess what?? They still hadn’t even started checking our car! After we told them we wanted to cancel the appointment, there was another 15 mins waiting until they returned us car key. The scheduling system of this place was a nightmare for us. Endless waiting and poor communication. Will never go there again after being few years of the loyal customer.
Was told need an alignment after replacing my tires.The second pic is after the first alignment. I wasn’t satisfied because the front camber were almost out of specs. So I requested another adjustment.The third one is the result of second alignment. The passenger side front camber got better but the specs on the rear was bad. The manager told me there is nothing they can do unless I buy a pair of adjustable control arm. And the estimate price is around $1.1kI asked if they can make it back to the result of first alignment. They told me “They are not doing three alignments for one alignment price.” “The rear specs is not that bad.”
I had 2 nails in my tire and got it patched(plugged) a few weeks ago. They were able to get me in same day which was a life safer to not be driving with those nails back and forth to Bloomington everyday. When I was there, everyone was super friendly and got me in and out.One thing that always makes me hesitant to go to auto shops is because I’m a female and I don’t want to be talked down to, but they did a phenomenal job at explaining everything in a way that was easy for me to understand without making me feel less.Thank you all for making the process easy and quick.
New student, just dropped by to check out a couple light warnings on my dash. They topped off my brake fluid with the good stuff and diagnosed my check engine light for free and gave me some helpful advice. In and out in 5 minutes. Very friendly, great service, Car-X on University has a new loyal customer for the rest of my time in Champaign
The service was great and the staff was very friendly. I really appreciated the cost up front and no hidden costs. I would highly recommend them for getting tires and also suggest the warranty especially if you travel on campus with your car. I always seem to pick up a nail a couple times a year, so the warranty has saved me so much over time.
Id skip this location for anything other than minor and incredibly obvious repairs. Went in for a diagnostic, ended up with about $1500 in faulty (as in broken) parts and unnecessary fixes. Daron the co-manager insisted the vehicle was working when it clearly was not, and was rude and dismissive. Took the car to a different mechanic, who diagnosed a part they had installed as faulty. Got the money back through a credit card chargeback.Chad (other co-manager) seems like a cool guy though, maybe if you get him youll have a good experience.
Let me start by saying I’m very very particular when it comes to oil services. I’ve changed my own oil since i was 16, this was one of the first times i had to let a shop take my car and do it. I had an issue getting the oil filter off because a common problem with the Toyota Prius is that the oil filter canister welds itself onto the oil filter housing if over tightened, that being said, previous owner had it so tight that i could not get it off.Dropped car off in the AM chad informed me that they struggled to get it off as well(so i wasn’t crazy) but finished the job and wrapped it up. Whole process took a few hours while i was at work.Really glad that chad was so understanding and patient with me through all my questions. If i ever did need any other service i would trust these guys, especially chad because he took care of me and that speaks volume
I have never reviewed an Auto Shop before but I have been in this shop several times and let me tell you they’re some of the most ethical mechanics I have ever meet. They do charge corporate rates (it is a car X) but honestly I would pay it because these mechanics are so trustworthy. I’ve never known them to charge more than they need to.
We came in because the tail pipe disconnected from the muffler. We live about 100 miles out and needed to get the problem fixed right away. Even though they were close to closing and super busy, they fixed the problem and gave us suggestions for next steps once we get home. We couldn’t be more grateful for their help in getting us home safely. I highly recommend!
I went to CarX a few weeks ago to get some wiring around my headlight fixed and everyone there was super helpful and knowledgeable, especially Chad. When I had to go in to get something fixed again this past week everything was done in a timely manner and handled very professionally again! I will definitely be returning next time I need something and I am very grateful that Chad was able to fix everything in a timely and affordable manner. Would definitely recommend!
My wifes car needs a simple oil change that ended up with a costly repair thanks to these geniuses. I dropped the car at Car-X and about one hour later got a call from them telling me the hood could not be opened. I was told when they tried to pull the lever, the hood release cable popped out. They tried to pull the cable with pliers but failed. Then they just blatantly told me I had to go to a dealer for repair since they could not fix it. Couldnt or wouldnt? I am not sure. So basically they messed up my wifes car and did nothing to help. I had to go to another garage and had the car fixed. Both hood release cables were too stretched because some genius yanked the cable too hard. The only reason I give two stars instead of one is they are not stubborn enough to keep trying and inflicting more damage. In summary, their service is neither responsible nor competent. There are so many garages in this town. If you can find another place to service your car, do it. For me, a lesson has been learned and price has been paid.
Such a great experience with this company! I recently spun out on the highway due to black ice and just wanted to make sure my car was working okay. They checked my car to make sure it did not have any major issues, which immediately provided me with a sense of relief. Great service in a timely manner - thank you Car-X for going above and beyond!
I had a strange rattling coming from my car and only had a small time frame to get it checked out. Chad from Car-X managed to squeeze me in and take a look at my car. My heat shield was loose and needed to be re-screwed on. Chad was amazing to work with and helped me out in a timely fashion! I had a great experience and I highly recommend Car-X!
Ive been a Car-X customer for about 4 years, and theyve always treated me well. I was overdue for an oil change and tire rotation. Even though the lot was completely packed, Chad was able to squeeze my car in for service and had it finished before I left work for the day. Needed to get my brakes and found out that my front brakes needed to be repaired. Manager, Chad Vail gave me an estimate and it was lower than I thought it would be so I had the repairs done. Chad was very helpful! I just moved to the area, so I was kind of dreading finding a new service place, but my mind was put at ease today when I got an oil change. I was also having some issues with my headlights, and Chad recommended a solution for me and its all good now. Highly recommend them.
I was having an issue having my car turn on. It was super cold these last few weeks, and it had an effect on my car. I brought in my car today, and they were able to help me find the issue. They were able to successfully turn on my car. Their staff were very kind and listened carefully when I was explaining the problem. Solved the problem within the same day, Ill be recommending them to my friends for their car needs.
Shout-out to Chad who rescued my college student daughter today! The tip of the key broke off in the lock to her gas cap, making it unable to be opened, and she was rapidly running out of gas. She went to Car-X to ask for help, and Chad broke out the channel locks and saved the day! Didnt even charge her a dime. Thank you so much for rescuing my kid when she was alone and far from home - youll never know how much it was appreciated! Needless to say, if we EVER need ANYTHING , we will make a beeline back to CarX and see Chad! Thanks again!!
Got my tires checked here after I noticed a leak. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and gave me honest answers on the issue without trying to charge me extra. Very affordable in my experience. It did take a while longer than expected to get my car, but I think that’s to be expected anywhere.
Ok so I had a blowout about two miles out of Champaign and little did i know i was about to see an angel. AAA told me my tow was an hour away. 30 minutes later, DeAnne towed me and my traveling companion to CarX. This was the best towing experience i ever had. She was so friendly and personable. My tire popped and i thought i was going to die for a full second. My adrenaline had spiked and DeAnne carried me down from my unstable high with her angel wings. Then she dropped us off at taco bell to live mas and hot dang that was a good breakfast crunchwrap, thanks DeAnn!!!!
The guys who work at this particular CarX are always honest, transparent and professional. I have brought all of my cars here for years and have never had an issue. I always feel confident after having my car serviced here and can always trust their advice about current and future car service needs. It is close to campus, so when possible I can drop-off my car and walk to my office. And now, during the time of COVID, I felt very safe leaving my car and doing business with them.
Ive used this Car-X several times and have found them very reliable. Most recently, I took my car in because it was having trouble starting, and the problem turned out to be a lot simpler than Id realized, so they didnt even charge me. Since it was between the holidays and they werent terribly busy, we decided to leave my wifes car with them to look at a different problem -- which also turned out to be so ridiculously easy to fix that they didnt charge us for that, either. Overall, our experiences have been good. On a regular weekday, its a good idea to call ahead to see if they have time to look at your car before you drop it off because they can get busy sometimes.
These guys were so helpful figuring out an issue I was having with my tires. I appreciate how up front they are and I never feel like Im being oversold or talked into extra things I dont need. Daniel is super kind and knowledgeable, and made sure I understood my options with the repair. Id recommend booking an appointment or calling ahead as theyre usually pretty busy. I came all the way from Springfield (because I work in Champaign) in fear that all the auto shops were booked up and Id be dancing the line between a functional car and not. They were booked up but they STILL took me in and helped me. I dont really have a word for how kind they were about the situation but I appreciate them all the same. Thanks!
There was a problem with one of my tires. As soon as I walked in they asked me what was the problem and came to look at my car. I believe it was Daren who helped me and he was absolutely understanding and willing to help me fix my car. Definitely will be going back! Thanks
Got our vehicle back with this gouge in the rim. Didnt notice it right away and of course they did not do it. Had to be a curb. But there is a smaller mark like this on the other side. Sorry, it wasnt a curb, we maintain our vehicles very well and wont be going back...
So I have been to this CarX for 3 years since I had my car. The staffs are extremely helpful and swift in their actions. The prices were also very fair. After I moved out of this town, I requested all my service invoices to be e-mailed to me. The guy I spoke on the phone was sooo nice. He sent me the invoices within 5 minutes and he called to make sure that I received what I want. So professional and that made my day!
They were extremely quick, extremely courteous, and provided the best service I could have asked for. I was very impressed. My right rear door was not closing and this was killing my battery, and I didnt know what to do; I went to Car-X and not only did they diagnose my door and get it to close again, they didnt charge me for it. It was more than kind and I dont know how to thank them to the level that they deserve.
I came in on Monday March 23rd and the three gentlemen working were extremely professional and knowledgeable. They diagnosed my problem, had me a quote within 5 minutes and then had a new alternator installed within 45 minutes and made sure it was working properly before they let me leave. Im going back to this location next week to have my brakes done! This is my new repair shop!
Came in today and worked with Chad, who was very professional, on my oil change and breaks. He told me my breaks were fine and i didnt need any new ones, anywhere else would have probably taken advantage of the situation and re done them anyways for the money. Great place. Definitely recommend this shop.
They fixed my right tail light & gave me an oil change at a reasonable price. Plus they informed me that I was due for a wheel alignment which I appreciate. Why? Because I got a wheel alignment done at Pat & axile a couple of months ago. So they obviously didnt fix it right.Thank you Car x if you didnt tell me about this problem I would have never known. Thank you for putting air in my tires as well I really do appreciate it. Great friendly fast service 👍
I was stranded over the weekend traveling from Michigan to Texas with 5 kids by myself. Chad at Car-X was as helpful and kind as I could have possibly hoped for. He even stayed open a little late to make sure my car was finished and I could keep heading out of town. The work was well done and my time hanging out in the lobby was very pleasant. Super convenient location. I feel like they are honest and dont try to sell you more than you need. It’s very important to me not to feel lied to so that’s another reason I bring my car here and will likely continue to.I initially had a less than satisfactory experience here, but the manager reached out to rectify it, and I appreciate that.
Came in for a check engine light and a few other things, they never sold me anything I didnt need. They are all really down to earth guys and always greet you with a smile.Daniel and his crew went above and beyond to make sure I was set, and their shuttle service driver was nice and prompt.Its hard finding mechanics you can fully trust these days, This is definitely my go to shop for anything, even though there are closer shops by me, I rather drive here for my future car needs.
What a great group of people there. Sent my college age daughter there to get service on her vehicle. Very professional and patient staff .She had a lot of questions about her estimate and they took the time to explain everything. Broke it down between safety issues and maintenance items for her .Very helpful . Only took care of the safety issues this visit but will definitely make sure my business goes there from now on. I believe it was Karl and Robert that helped her .Good people there at car-x. Highly recommend checking them out the next time you need your vehicle serviced
I needed to change the oil and rotate the tires. I mentioned it two times, when I book the appointment and when I went there to drop off the car. When I went to pick it up I noticed that the tires were in the same position (luckily I payed attention to some marks). I asked them and they said it was not in the working order. If I hadnt realized and drove another 7000 miles my tires would have uneven wear. Also, they said they would perform a multipoint inspection of the car and give me a paper with the results that was empty. They didnt fill it.
Car-X on University is the best. The guys are very helpful and do not try to sell you things you do not need. I went in for an oil change and was helped in a timely manner and had my vehicle back quickly. Will definitely be going back to this location for further work on my vehicle!! Chad, the manager at the 601 E. University Avenue CarX gave us outstanding service! Very long story short, our daughter lives in Champaign and we live in NJ. Our daughter brought her car to the dealer last week for a recall repair, and they gave her an extensive list of other work which they said needed to be done on the car immediately, including one major repair and several maintenance items. The maintenance items included a transmission fluid flush and a brake fluid flush.Our daughter brought her car to CarX for a second opinion. Chad assured us that the major repair work was not necessary at all, and that the maintenance items were based on the mileage of the car, but the fluids were all clean and did not need to be flushed immediately. He ended up replacing a couple of front parking light bulbs for a fraction of what the dealer wanted to charge us. Chad and CarX have earned our business!
Check engine light has come on after taking it to the shop on two separate occasions (within a month). Each time I was charged $200 to get the problem fixed. The second time, my car was there for a few days and they didn’t call once to give an update or explain the problem with the car. Not going back to this
I couldnt have asked for a better experience. My car decided to have some difficulties in the midst of an already horrible week and the staff here was incredibly understanding and helpful. I had no clue how to describe the issue I was having but the mechanic was able to pinpoint it and create a solution in minutes. I was helped immediately and the fix was administered in a very timely manner, no waiting around for hours. The staff was very friendly and walked me through every part of the process. I cannot see myself going anywhere else for car issues while on campus.
I went to Car-X today to see if they could change my license plates since I couldnt get the rusty screws off myself. Robert warned me up front that if the bolts were to break it could cost me $120/hour for labor to fix it. I had no other option, so I told him to go for it. Robert had my plates changed within a couple of minutes with no complications. He was very friendly and did it for FREE! Will definitely return for future car repairs.
I have taken my car to this Car.X location over many times, and the service and pricing has been excellent. Also, I enjoy that I can speak directly with the mechanics who work on my car. Today, the Manager Terrry greeted me with kindness as I asked him to check my tiires. He indicated that the cold likely lowered the tire pressure. He filled them and invited me to return if the problem returned. Thank you Terry!!
I stopped in the other day to get some prices on some tires. Terry M was very helpful and explained things very thoroughly. He asked if I had any questions after he explained everything to me. I said no. Also explained other things they do oil changes etc. Very Satisfied. Will let my friends know what a great place it is.10/4/18 Went to this CarX store to get some information. The manager was so nice and respectful and answered all my questions in detail. I would recommend this CarX to anyone. They care about peoples feelings. I plan on going to get my oil changed there. I give this place a 5 star for sure. I will be sharing this with all my friends. Call and make an appointment or stop by and ask questions you will be happy you did.
I went to Car X to do a car maintenance and the report says that the brakes are fine. I asked again at the end if my brakes were fine and was told yes. Then when I was driving and braking at low speed, there was always the screeching weird sound. Im kinda worried so I pulled up at the nearest car shop and get it inspected.It turned out that the rotors and pads are completely worn out. I could see it with my eyes when they suspended the car. I just dont understand how come Car X didnt find out when they do the initial inspection. I could have had an accident with the worn-out braking parts.Since its gonna to be too dangerous for me driving the car with the worn-out brakes back to Car X so Ill just get things fixed immediately. And given the result of the maintenance Im not even sure if I want to get it fixed there.But anyway, Ill just post the pictures of the worn-out parts and the new parts along with the car report to show you what I mean.I just went to Car X few days ago to change a rear turn-light it was quick and good (the reason why I gave a two star instead of one) , which was the reason why I went back to get my car maintenance. But, the maintenance result is disappointing.
This is the only place in town Ive been so far that does High Mileage Mobil 1 and that for me is a great plus. However, they do try to nickel and dime you for everything possible. One time I went in after getting my brakes changed and they recommended that I get my brakes changed...I had literally gotten new ones less than a week before from my dealership. Ever since then, Ive been extremely weary about anything that they suggest. I would always recommend that you get a second opinion from a different place if youre set on completing something they suggest you do here. Though I do appreciate that they apparently read my review!-that gets them an extra star.
Took my car in last week because the low tire dummy light came on. I was kinda busy running errands and I explained this to Karl, the manager. He had his crew get me in, fixed up, out and on my way in just a few minutes! I was extremely happy with the service they provided and I will be recommending them to all my friends!
Recently went in for my routine oil change and tire rotation. Told the manager, Karl that I was hearing a loud noise in the front of my car around the driver side tire. He had his guys take a look at it. Honestly I was worried it was gonna be an expensive fix, like maybe more than the car was worth... Turns out, it was just that I needed new tires! They got me fixed up and I had my car back within a few hours! Whew! Saved my bank account!!! Thanks guys!!!
Customer service was okay, but the price for the services is way too expensive. I do my own maintenance on my car, but I got a $25 gift certificate for this place and thought Id try. Was going to get an oil change and with the gift certificate it was still $90, and they werent even using high quality products. I know that parts and services for my audi are expensive for my car because its foreign, but doing it myself with high quality products was only $50. Also only took me 30 min whereas they said the wait would be 3 hours. They didnt seem very busy though... Maybe if you have a normal car and cant or dont know how to do your car maintenance this would be an okay option. But if you love your car Id consider doing your own maintenance as a lot of car services can mess it up and wont even tell you of they did. Happened to my mom lots of times with this place.
Store Manager Brian Reynolds was excellent. He was very knowledgeable, and informative. Briann gave great customer service, was warm, professional and professional. We were in the midst of a road trip with our three young children when we punctured a tire near the U of I campus. Car-X was the only auto shop that was willing to squeeze us in right away. They were very sympathetic to our situation, completed the repair to our tire in under twenty minutes, and—incredibly—didnt charge us once the work was completed.Its rare to find such efficient and compassionate service in the auto industry. Wish we lived closer so this could become our regular auto shop.
Amazing people and great service. The man who helped me at the desk, Robert, was so kind to explain to me everything about my tires and checked with me before they did anything that would cost me. As a student, Im always wary of being taken advantage of in situations like this and that absolutely did not happen. Amazing service and will go there again if I ever need to.
They helped me install my new license plate for the front of my car that didnt have a mount and even offered to switch out the old one in the back bc I didnt have the tools to do it myself. They dont offer these services but simply helped me out and Im so thankful they did. Everyone was super friendly and helpful!
Great service! I had a tire slowly losing pressure and came in to have it checked. The mechanic said he couldnt find a leak so he just cleaned the seating and the valve which fixed the problem but he refused to take any payment since there wasnt a proper leak in the tire.
One of my tires got a nail stuck in it on a Saturday afternoon. Since the tire couldnt be fixed, Terry and his crew got me and squared away with a new set of four tires for the price of three and an oil change and all in just two hours! He even put in new lights on my license plate for free! Terrific service! Car-X saved the day!
I took my vehicle in for a tune up a few days. They replaced my EGR valve without my consent and attempted to charge me over $400 for the replacement. I took my vehicle to another CAR-X in Mattoon, IL. They told me that the older EGR valve was completely fine as long as my car didnt throw a check engine light for it. Which it didnt. In other words, they replaced a part in my car purely to get money out of my pocket.This establishment has proven itself dishonest and will attempt to pry on the pockets of those who do not know much about vehicles. I will not be going back to this auto body shop and would wholeheartedly recommend against going to this establishment.
Just took my car in to the University store for my regular oil change and tire rotation. I am always completely satisfied with this shop! The manager, Karl is always so courteous and helps me understand what I do and do not need done to my car and why. I recommend this shop to all of my family and friends! I Always tell them to ask for Karl.
Totally disgusted with this shop. My daughter bought tires online and had them shipped to this store for installation. Upon hearing she was a lady, Terry quoted her twice the price. This, I think was very stupid on his part considering he should have known a lady thats smart enough to know she can order online and have it delivered wouldnt fall for that.After she told me what they (Terry) were trying to charge her, I called to ask how much they charge to change and install 4 new tires. Terry kept telling me it depends on different things. I tried answering his questions but he still wouldnt tell me a price. Then asked me if I was calling for my daughter (who I never mentioned). My assumption is he knew this because he had just tried ripping her off. Funny he could give her a price but wouldnt give me one.I told him she would just come and pick up the tires and when she went to pick it up, he just rolled them out and closed the garage without trying to offer her any help. Totally unprofessional.We called another Car-X and was immediately given a price that was more in line with other shops.I have never seen such blatant actions that leaves no guessing what he was trying to do. Please, please, please, stay away from this shop if you dont want to get ripped off.
Ive had a slow leak in a tire for years. Car RX on University was the first place to let me know why and how to fix it. Unfortunately they didnt carry the part, but they diagnosed the problem for free...and I thank them for that and their customer service! Will definitely be back for all my other car needs!
Our car needed new intake and exhaust solenoids. These price gougers wanted to charge over $1200 for this work, which included additional bogus charges for first defense service (huh?) and a new valve cover gasket (because the original, perfectly good one would *supposedly* be destroyed in the process of replacing the solenoids). They were even going to charge over $100 just for the diagnostic computer scan. Also disappointing was the inability of the front desk clerk to answer simple questions about the repairs, and we would have had to wait several days for repairs to begin.Fortunately, we went elsewhere for a second opinion (KCM Auto Care on Cunningham) and ended up spending $700 LESS for the same work (with the original valve cover gasket very much intact)!
I came here 2 separate times.The first time, I dropped off my car int the morning, and received a call that it had not been serviced a half hour before close.The second time, I dropped my car off with a different issue, and they were sent the wrong parts which caused it to not be completed until after they closed at the end of the business day. Its not 1 star because they very nicely were able to finish almost all the necessary service by staying after the second time. But I recommend another CarX or another location until they get the simple logistics figured out.
Even not worth one star. Worst experience with them. First trying to scare me by warning me the car is not safe to drive, and asked for $268 to fix the problem (an electric wire was cut by a mice). Then I refused the service, asking for the car back. Instead, I drove my car to Honda dealer and they only charged me less than $100 to get the problem perfectly solved.
Daniel was amazing in helping my daughter when she went in to check her car battery. He was very professional and let her know the CCC on the battery. He was very honest and that is very hard to find now and days. Thank you very much, Daniel. Id definitely recommend going to the location.
The manager and staff are always very helpful and honest. I brought my vehicle in for a 2nd opinion, after being told I needed a very expensive repair at another local car repair shop. I found out I only needed to replace a part. I will no longer take my vehicle anywhere else and this location is my #1 referral for family and friends.
I always go to this Car X on university and they’ve never let me down.I recently had something fall from underneath my car and was terrified that it was some major damage. Procrastinated for a few days. Then called Car X and they told me I could show up whenever. As promised, they were ready when I arrived and Dan and Damien fixed my car in no time.Huge relief and they ran me through what was wrong as well as the quickest and cheapest way to fix it.It was also clear from the waiting area that other customers were also frequent visitors which increased my confidence in them ten fold. I don’t google review a lot but left there today wanting to do so for their excellent service!
Great experience! I recently moved into the area and this CarX is close to where I live. I knew I probably needed a tune up and had some bad brake noise. I requested an appointment on a Sunday and got a response that day (they arent open on Sundays). Came in for my appointment and they did a diagnostic. There was quite a bit of work on the estimate and the manager Karl took the time to go over everything in detail and told me what could wait and what shouldnt wait. I ended up doing about half of the work they suggested and the turn around time was only a day......will be returning! Pleasant to work with and I never felt like I didnt know what was going on.
If you care about your car or just dont want to get it back in worse shape, dont go here.I dropped my car off to have it checked for a parking break error. I get it back and they had broke the parking break switch in my car and completely denied it (they told me they might be able to fix it for $500 dollars though....). They had pulled the entire switch out, shattering it, and lazily tried to puzzle the pieces back together. I took my car somewhere else (what you should also do) and the $1200 mechanical issue Car-X quoted me for turned out to be a much cheaper electrical issue; Car-X wanted to replace a parking break motor when it was actually a burnt out control module (Car-X wouldnt have even fixed the problem and it would have cost me 4 times as much as the actual issue!).In my experience, the guys at Car-X on University are incompetent, and Karl, the guy at the front desk at the time, is rude and is the person who denied the damage done to my car. I wouldnt trust these guys with an oil change and will never be returning to this or any other Car-X.
If only I could give this place negative stars. I wish I wouldve read the reviews here first before I took our vehicle to CarX. There are many comments of people being nickled and dimed and with that I will share my experience. In August 2017 I was asked to take my girlfriends car to CarX because she had taken it there before and she also had a coupon for a free tire rotation. Knowing she had been there before, I imagined this was the best place to go because they would have all her information. They asked what kind of oil she usually got and I figured since she usually went awhile between oil changes that it was most likely synthetic. The mechanic looked at her info and never objected. They then asked if I wanted a tire rotation. Pointing to the coupon I planned on using, I eluded to the fact I would receive a free rotation with the oil change. When they were finished they handed me a bill for $149 and I handed over the coupon. Without taking the coupon, the man said he couldnt take the coupon. When asked why, he said that it was for conventional oil only. He then took the coupon from me and verified it was for conventional oil only. That mechanic knew what he was doing and intentionally deceived me, but I suppose I am the fool for trusting a mechanic. He knew all along I wouldnt be able to use the coupon but he never said anything knowing I would have to pay when the service was complete. I highly recommend taking your vehicles somewhere else. To make it even better, it is now November and I have been trying to get my money back since August. Managers at other locations have attempted to help me but they never follow up. Good luck getting quality service at a place that intentionally deceives and rips off its customers. (This review will also go on the other CarX locations because I imagine they are all the same and none of them have attempted to help me.)
I want to thank Daniel Nasser, store manager of the University Ave shop, for saving me yesterday, and restoring my faith in humanity!! What a great guy! Can’t thank you enough for letting me leave my busted car in your lot all afternoon and then putting my spare tire on for no charge at the end of your long day. Wasn’t expecting that at all!! Your kindness and generosity was the perfect end to a terrible day and I can’t thank you enough for taking the time to do that!
Shane and his crew have always been very fair with me. I took my truck into two different places before Shane assessed my vehicle. His crew did an unbelievable job repairing my truck and runs like brand new. Ive been taking my truck to Shane consistently because I cant rely on other mechanics. They told us to change front and back rotors and brake pads and then gave estimation of $800. Then we went to other local mechanic shop, and they gave us estimation of $480 for the same service. Plus, the new shop told us we dont actually need to change all rotors. We went there around 11am and got our cars back at 6 pm. 2 stars for actually giving us free estimates.
Fantastic service and great price. I was in town my daughter goes to school there and had to get the car fixed that day, and it was a Saturday. Very accommodating, fast great service, staff very kind, considerate and knowledgeable I recommend this shop to all in the area. They are located on University and 6th in Champaign ILL. My experience was excellent. I went in with a faulty tyre, and it got fixed in no time for a very small fee. The manager was also very cautious and understanding.And of course, I like it that they they have free WIFI and coffee available while you are waiting for your vehicle to be fixed.Keep it up!!

My husband Mike was diagnosed with Malignant Melanoma Metastasized on Sep 25th (his 79th birthday) We have had our cars serviced at Republic Ford for 20 years. NEVER AGAIN!!!! I have had my Crown Victoria to Republic Ford twice recently. After an oil and filter change the car started leaking a large puddle in garage. Took it back up and asked to check for gasket or oil cooler line leaks. They told me no problem and changed oil & filter. They stated sometimes oil filters leak. Brought car home. Husband on Hospice, and went to a facility for a few days to get a respite and gain better control of pain and an infection. Facility was at 65 and Sunshine, a long drive from Republic. I took our Ford Explorer to visit him, now keep in mind we have been through 4 batteries in as many years and have repeatedly asked Republic Ford to check alternator and belt. They kept telling us it was fine we just needed to drive Explore more often. BULL> Mike, my husband has been in the car business for over 40 years and I started in the car business in 1984. We also had our own lot. So please do NOT pee on my leg and tell me it is raining.Friday I took Explorer to visit. Came out to head home and it barely started, gauges all flat and alternator light on. It was a very cold rainy and extremely windy night, utterly miserable. I got car home and pulled out Crown Vic to see a big puddle on garage floor. NO OIL IN CAR. Added a quart I had in garage and ran up to Oreillys to get more. SEE REVIEW on Oreillys. What is wrong with people these days??Went to Republic Ford to try to buy a car and arrange for service. They treated my like some dumb women who did not have a brain in her body. So I told them they just lost our business, after 20 years. They obviously do not care.Now to Sawyer Tire. I called to see if they did this kind of work. Yes. They found the leak RIGHT AWAY, a stripped gasket from a previous oil change. Imagine that. They also replaced brakes on front and rear. Today I picked it up and dropped the Explorer off. Within a few short hours they called, it was done. WOW. They explained what was wrong with the alternator and why , they also told me the battery we just paid $ 125.00 for from Oreillys Automotive was junk, dead. They also fixed hood shocks that hold the hood up and untangled both seat belts. A note to REPUBLIC FORD, I GUESS YOU JUST CAN NOT FIX STUPID!!!So people from NOW ON it is Sawyer Tire and ONLY Sawyer tire. Honest as well. He explained I had a tire wearing uneven on inside so an alignment might be in order. I mentioned I had plans to replace all 4 tires in spring and he was honest enough to tell me we should hold off on the alignment until I replace the tires or it would be a waste of money, and we would just have to do it again.This is a prime example of an HONEST and fair company that obviously cares about their customers and their reputation.My husband passed away Wednesday, and they made this task just a lot easier for me. Made an appointment for the day after Thanksgiving for an oil change. The day after I noticed my car was leaking fluids, took it to another mechanic, he found that they didnt tighten the oil cap and most of the oil had spilled out. Wont be going back and I wouldnt recommend them.
Went in with a loud clunking noise when I went over bumps and I thought it was going to be a very expensive repair. However, they said it was an end link and it was very reasonable and only took about an hour to repair. Thanks to the nice manager who even offered me a ride from their shuttle service. He explained everything so I could understand the problem. I will definitely be back!
I came here a few months ago to get a tire fixed because there was a nail in it and the workers were very very nice. I had to come back today to get my tires checked because I did not know how to check the air pressure myself and they were very generous and took the time to check them for me. I would recommend this tire place to anyone!

The other mechanic told me they are horrible people, because they not only overcharged me for a minor $200 problem, they also loosen the screws and one of them are missing on the wheel when they reassemble back everything after the inspection, which might lead to potential accidents if the wheel went off. Extremely dangerous!
I came to Champaign early in the morning from Dayton, Ohio for a funeral. On the way there I experienced a lot of noise from the tires. I needed to check the tires out before I returned home but the place was to busy to get an appointment. However, Daniel Nasser, who was working at the desk, checked all the my tires and balanced the ones that were giving me a problem. I cant say enough for his kindness to a guest coming from another city. I was totally impressed with the service I received from CARX at 601 E. University, Champaign, IL.
Got a diagnosis from these guys for a full transmission replacement that would have cost me over a week and $3000+. Luckily, I had the sense to get a second opinion elsewhere; Turned out to be a $150 fix that took under 4 hours.If youre looking for any kind of competent repair work, I would go pretty much anywhere else.
New to the area, they are closest to where I live though they were more expensive an another quote I got they matched it. Karl explained everything to me and was super nice, offered me the wifi password when he noticed me on my laptop. Will be returning for my next regular oil change.
Honest folks out there, didnt charge me anything when they couldnt find the problem after examination. Karl is a friendly manager and listened to all my additional requests. Good place to discuss ones problems, convenient location if in the U of I. In my case, they did the right diagnosis and replacement that solved the check engine light problem.
Love the car x on university ave! My definite go to for all my auto mechanical needs! Karl is always so helpful and thoroughly explains everything that needs to be done to my car! I recommend them to anyone and everyone that asks... sometimes people that dont ask too😂😂
Horrible customer service. Ive been going to this place for sometime because they gave good coupons, but yesterdays behavior prompts me not to go back again. First they get my appointment time wrong, then they start charging me Who did you talk to? We dont have a record of your appointment at that time. Do you wanna leave your car or not ? Basic decency demands that you at leqst apologise for any mixup. But got nothing from them regarding that. Any subsequent question I had was answered very rudely, as if he didnt care. Definitely that was my last visit !
Being a father of college students 3 hours away I did not know where to send them to get the car fixed when they called and said it had a problem. I decided to try CAR-X mainly because it was close to the campus. It turned out to be a good choice. Shane called and told me the problems and the cost and assured me he could be done before my kids would head home for break. All went according to plan. It is nice to know I don’t have to worry about where to go in the future.
I am from Tennessee and my sister and I were in town for my nephews graduation. I drive a 2012 Ford focus and my car was acting up no one could help because I have a closed transmission but car-x did not turn me away and actually fixed the issue. So thanks guys!!!!FromThe Tennessee girls
I went in to replace my headlight bulbs. Later when I drove my car at night, I noticed one bulb was still really dim. I found out that the wiring was bad and went somewhere else to fix it. For $80 installation, I wish they wouldve checked to make sure the new bulb was working before sending me on my way.
Disrespectful of client’s time; poor communication, with no apology or explanation for making us wait almost an hour (to change a tire!) when they estimated 20 minutes. Anyone can have a delay, but this level of delay without any explanation or apology—for such a simple thing!—is disrespectful and unprofessional.
Terrible place to get car repaired!! They spent 2 month on my car, charged me $1600 and still didnt fix it. They tried to charge me another $600 for a problem that wasnt even there! It turned out the real problem was actually the battery and could had been fixed for less than $200. Completely ripped off!!!
When I went to pick up my car, one of the workers looked at me and said, “WOW you’re really good at speaking English!”First of all, I am American. Just because I look Asian doesn’t mean that I am an international student or that I can’t speak English.Second, throughout the entire conversation I explained that it offended me when random people came up to me to speak to me in Chinese, which I am not, and he continued to say, “well that’s still cool though.”I just called back because I had a question and decided to mention it, and they “apologized” and hung up immediately.Yes, they may do their jobs well but they were racist, unapologetic, and had no regard as to how their customers felt. I don’t recommend at all.

2022-01-08I made an appointment for an oil change here a couple days in advance. I was told that the earliest they could make the appointment was at opening on a Saturday, which I agreed to since I thought that would put me first in line and make the service faster. When I came in (on time), I was informed that there were two customers in front of me, and that it would take some time to finish with my car. I was confused on why they would triple book an appointment slot if they didn’t have the resources to get everyone out in a reasonable time, but I complied. I mentioned at this point that my car needed a windshield washer fluid refill, and was assured by the worker that it would be taken care of within the oil change and inspection service. I was then told that it would be best to come back later instead of waiting at the shop, so I went home on public transport in 15° weather. It took them over 2 hours for just an oil change, despite me making an appointment ahead of time. When I picked up my car I saw they didn’t even have the courtesy to refill the windshield fluid like they said they would. I feel like this wasn’t much to ask considering I paid over $120 for the service. They may have done a lovely job on the oil change, but the customer service at this location is lacking. If you choose to go here for repair, don’t bother calling first. They will either double book your appointment or take walk ins before you. And leave a note with any special requests you may have, lest they forget.

2022-05-05The manager and technicians were very friendly and knowledgeable. I had two tires changed very quickly and had my 4 year old twins with me. The manager even came out and put cartoons on the TV while we waited. It was the best experience I could imagine and they catered to all of our needs. Words cant express how grateful I am for how amazing it was. This is the place to go, especially if you have kids. A big thank you to the staff, they were amazing!

2022-08-09Don and James saved the day, in record time! My wife and I and our 4 kids were in town from the Chicago suburbs to tour the university. On our way out the alternator died on our Acadia. They stayed until they were able to replace it. Don was managing the front desk but still managed to help James get a head start on the work so we wouldnt be stuck there another night. And a fair price compared to Midas. Thanks guys!

2022-05-17I went to this CarX because I happened to get a nail in my tire and I needed it fixed ASAP. I called and was able to get an appointment very soon, and was greeted by very kind people! The service was quick despite many people and cars needing to be worked on, and the people who worked on my car, as well as the gentlemen in the front who I talked to! I received great service on my car as well as felt like a valued customer! Thank you guys!

2022-07-20While everyone here was nice, I question the knowledge of the staff. I was talked into changing spark plugs and other maintenance services when my check engine light came on. The check engine light came back on the next day. When I brought the vehicle back I was told there was a water leak, but they didnt have the equipment to check for the leaks or the potential head block issue that could be the ACTUAL problem. So, after spending $1200.00+ with them I took it down the street to someone who actually knew what they were talking about and could check the things they apparently couldnt. Long story short, I spent over 1200.00 for nothing because the entire engine needed to be replaced. Please note I was also told at the other shop that anyone who actually knew anything about vehicles would have known what the issue was when I was describing the problems I was facing. Oil change and tires? Maybe. Anything else that could be more serious? Please go to Dave at Midas down the street and save yourself the money on unnecessary repairs at Car-X where the knowledge is lackluster at best.

2022-03-09I only called, but whoever I spoke with was not only rude but also completely unwilling to even give me a ballpark idea of how much money I would need to put aside to get my brakes and rotors replaced. I drive a Honda Civic, hardly a unique car, and wasn’t expecting to have a price to hold them to. Just needed a ballpark idea of how much to save, which I couldn’t even get from them. Called another shop, a local shop at that, and they were able to provide me with us so I just wound up going there instead

2022-03-07My daughter noticed her car tire was flat and she took it to this location where they immediately provided a reasonable estimate for a patch and repair. They called her within an hour or so and let her know it was fixed and she could pick it up. Responsive, reliable and reasonable! Great customer service. Highly recommend.

He diagnosed it as a tire wear issue which put us at ease and we were in and out very quickly. Peace of mind is everything on the road and we are so glad we took our Rav4 here. Thank you!!!
