Despite very obviously being in labor, I was told I was not actually having contractions because the monitor couldn’t read them (even though the nurse admitted this monitor was acting up). I was forced to labor ALONE in a triage room, while occasionally a nurse would open the curtain and say “wow, you’re really huffing and puffing in here”. DUH! I’m having contractions 4 minutes apart and I’m lamaze breathing at this point because they’re a 10/10 pain.Let me repeat: I was forced to labor alone in a triage room because they wouldn’t admit me so my husband could come up to the room, all because the monitor wasn’t reading my contractions! How ridiculous! Your medical training and experience of many years should have told you that I was in labor!!!No one checked my cervix until my doctor comes rushing in over an hour later and discovers I’m already at 3cm! I’m only 31w6d at this stage and absolutely terrified for my baby. I was hurriedly checked in and gave birth TEN MINUTES LATER. They rushed me to a room, then checked my cervix again 5 minutes later and I was at 10cm. I AM STILL ALONE. They had 3 nurses come and *literally* run me down the hall to an OR while yelling at me not to push. I get moved onto a delivery table, my doctor wheels herself into position, my husband comes barreling through the door in scrubs, I push twice and voila! Without my doctor coming into the triage area and basically barking orders at these incompetent nurses, I would have had my 31w6d baby ALONE in triage!Because of the incompetent staff at L&D, we missed our window to stop labor, I was forced to labor entirely alone, and made to feel like I was crazy and making it up, let alone earned a 20 day stay in NICU (let’s not even go there!).This was a terribly traumatizing experience and I will never ever ever step foot in this hospital again. Thinking and talking about my experience makes me sob and has induced a genuine panic attack at the thought of getting pregnant again (which is the opposite of how it should be!).Such an awful experience.
No communication with patients whatsoever. Nurses will tell you theyll be right back with your sleep or pain meds and take half an hour or more. I have been shown nothing but disrespect and disregard after having my very first surgery in my life. A nurse told me I had nothing to cry about when I was in pain and overwhelmed after surgery. A doctor told me she was sorry I felt that way after I told her how disrespectful the nurse had been. I was woken up at 4 am to be told that I was a danger to myself because I had said yes to a depression assessment question where the answer was if I had experienced that ever in my LIFE. And they thought the best course of action was to wake up an ALREADY SLEEPING PATIENT IN EXTREME PAIN TO TELL THEM THIS.Pain management is a joke. Medication management is a joke. Bedside mannerisms are a joke. And its only the staff who are laughing. And yes, I am contacting patient advocacy about the absolutely appalling treatment Ive received so far. This is unacceptable, and honestly traumatising, treatment and behaviour. Dont go to this location, especially if you have to go alone and youre a girl. Youll be treated like the classic hysterical female.
I am giving the nurses in surgery recovery high marks. Stephanie, Brenda and Marciela were so attentive and kind. Spent overnight and day recovery from back surgery, and they helped me with anything I needed. My PT, unfortunately I cant remember her name, she was awesome. Addressing all of my questions, and useful information.
IF YOU ARE A YOUNG WOMAN OF COLOR. DO NOT HAVE YOUR BABY HERE. The staff were absolutely terrible last night while my 17 year old sister was in labor. Instead of focusing on her emergent situation they dragged their feet. We’re rude and completely careless and lacked compassion or any emotion at all. I’ve never seen anything like that. After witnessing their just blatant rude and racial prejudice, I will make sure to tell every single woman of color I see to steer very clear of this place. Find a birthing center, utilize home birth. Get yourself a doula or midwife so they can advocate for you because all you are to them is $$$$$$. Which they made very clear. So thankful I was on FaceTime video the whole time filming the situation. They’ll be hearing from our family attorney this afternoon. Ridiculous. Baby is healthy and made it safely with little help from there. Thank god for the inexperienced emergency doctor.
I went to see doctor morad. His very rude nurse told me to put my mask on correct or get out. I was so put off by this I said I couldn’t cover my nose Totally do to a enlarged heart. Hard to breath!!! I also wasn’t sick. she then called in the supervisor Amanada who told me to put mask on right or get out. They would rather I die over a mask policy. I hope I don’t wind up in the hospital it’s going to cost them alI a lot!! I left the room and over heard the nurse telling a trainee it was fine. I never saw the doctor
If I could give less I would. What a joke of a hospital 99.9% of the time, with the occasional nurse to make it just tolerable. In every single way. I visited this hospital twice, totaling about a 2 week stay between my son and sister and we had a total of what I would consider to be 3 competent nurses total. Ridiculous, every staff member was on a different page, and everything had to be re explained just to have that nurse treat the situation in a different way. It seemed we were there so long more for them to get their act together. It really is a shame for a hospital who has potential to have such lazy staff.
Worst emergency experience of my life. I have a history of diverticulitis. I came into the emergency room with the pain level of a 7 and laid on the floor in the emergency room for over 2.5 hours with zero painmanagement. They dont care here. Im now lying in a room with the only person to come in was a nice Cna in 30 minutes.
This is the most unprofessional hospital I’ve ever been to. I was visiting in Illinois and felt sick so was rushed to the ER and right off the bat the receptionists were so rude to not only me but everyone else walking in. The lab results technicians are so rude and won’t help you out with anything. Now I know why this hospital is so poorly rated. I believe if you work in a hospital the least you could be is nice. Wish there was a hotline to report nurses from this hospital.
My fiancé was having horrible back pain. She could barely stand. We waited 6 and a half hours in the waiting room. The nurses kept saying they would get her some pain killers. They never did. They finally bring us back, but they stick her in the hallway near the nurses station. As we are in the hallway, other people are coming back and getting rooms. My fiancé is screaming in pain and the nurses look at her and ignore her. Then finally the one nurse looks at the other and says “I think she needs some pain pills”. They did a urine test, X-ray, and bloodwork. When the doctor came back he said there is nothing wrong with her and sent her home. Then some woman came up to us and said we could not leave until we paid $700. A couple days later my fiancé passed a kidney stone. Apparently the doctors missed a kidney stone.
They did bloodwork for things that my doctor didnt ask for but didnt test for things she actually needed me to get tested for. I then called their billing to understand the charges made to me and she could only tell the amount owed and said that neither she nor anyone in her office could tell me what the charges were for. Absolutely unacceptable and also very questionable.
Zero care for patients. Sent a family member home with a severe head injury, went to another hospital for a second opinion and he has 3 hematomas in his brain. The new hospital couldn’t believe that St Alexis sent him home. I’d you have a family member here, take them to another hospital unless you want them to die. I’ve lost so many people at this hospital due to negligent care. Luckily this time we have a lawsuit. LAWER UP AMITA. You guys are terrible and should go out of business. And don’t bother replying with a cut and dry copy paste response because that truly shows you don’t care.
This is my second visit here in 3 weeks and this is the most unprofessional staff I ever seen first of all when I left I had to learn how to walk again but was giving a walker too short to even used, everytime I called I was put on hold or hung up on and then when I got a catheter removed and didn’t receive any antibiotics causing a UTI now im sitting here with rude nurses that don’t care for my well-being, take 10+mins just to complete a simple task, they pick and choose who can have visits I literally seen a family of 4 visit a loved one but I can only have one visitor how does that make sense. I have never seen such unprofessionalism in a health care unit nurse that are still in high school coming to take vitals not sure what she doing. Cafeteria calling my room for a woman named pat I found via my mom that I wasn’t even in the system When she called wanting to visit this place need to be under review this is actually shameful I wouldn’t recommend this hospital to anyone I’ll rather travel a extra 30 min to get better treatment
Workers are heartless. Left my mom alone while she was having her seizure’s. Pressed the emergency button multiple times, no one came. And when they did check up on her they told her to just breath…..Told her she was faking it. No one checks up on you!!! Our whole family had to curse them out ridiculous
I would like to express my gratitude for care I have received from wonderful medical professionals at this hospital over the course of five days. Thank you Dr. Kokanovic and Dr. Sunkara. The following nurses and techs also deserve recognition; Ryan, Steve, Marta, Maria, Maggie, Candy, Kelli, Diego, Keri, Jel, Diego, Jamie and Ferndando. I am missing one nurses name from Friday evening so I do apologize. My health and life could not be in better hands. So thank you from the bottom of my heart! :)
I took my wife to the ER today because she was experiencing severe back and chest pain and nausea. We waited for 5 hours while people were called in who had gotten there hours after us. We were told that when my wife was called in, I could bring our two small children with us. When she was finally called up, we were told the kids could not come back. The doctor told my wife that shouldnt have happened. All in all, a terrible experience.
Went to ER for stomach pain. Admitted for gall bladder removal. Staff so rude. Kept for a night with no communication regarding surgery information. Terrible communication overall. Next morning asked if I want surgery at a later date. Never given a time for my family to come during procedure or given details to pick me up after. Taken in for surgery @ 8am without ever being told. Rude nurse whenever we had questions. Phone system wasn’t working for family. By fourth try got through to main operator. Had to leave a message for nurse. When call returned, was very rude.
I am writing my second review for the same day that we went in. The staff at the front desk were not friendly at all. The female radiologist tech was not friendly, she raised her tone at my son almost like yelling at him. None of them have any customer service. They need a lot of training. Extremely unprofessional. Now when we went in, where we were waiting for the Dr., in the room, the child Life Team Leticia, was truly amazing. She came to check on us. She asked my son how he was feeling, gave him a squeeze ball to make him feel better, checked on the Dr. for us.The nurse Amy and Dr. Denev were very nice too. I would only give them 5 stars ⭐️.
Was there yesterday and was super disappointed. Was there roughly around 4:30pm all the girls at the desk were SUPER rude to the patients walking in. The only nice person was the guy that was there when I got checked in but he ended up leaving soon after. An older couple had gone in to check on their family member and the way the girl responded to her was so disrespectful so rude.Front desk girl: You can’t see the patient due to COVIDCouple: We are just concerned and want information about him.Front desk girl: Uhm he is 30 years old so he can definitely give you a call and let you know how he’s doing. Are you serious?! She had the nerves to say that to a concerned family member?! SMH!!!!!Next another patient had gone in due to bleeding/miscarriage and when she was taken away in the wheelchair there was a trail of blood and that literally stayed on the floor for more than 20 minutes. No one went back to check if there was blood on the floor after the girl had made it clear “I’m bleeding a lot”So I got up and told front desk, but still took 15 minutes to get cleaned up San when it was cleaned up it wasn’t done very well.Totally understand we’re in a pandemic everyone is short staffed and all but man the amount of things that went wrong in the waiting room was ridiculous!Definitely not going back
I would not ever re enter this EMERGENCY Room. The staff is so pre occupied with chatting to each other and not taking care of anything. They ignore you completely. I had a serious condition and was having excruciating pain. after an hour of wait we left out of desperation. We drove to Good Shepard Hospital and were admitted immediately.I was in serious condition for 5 days stay. luckily we did leave the emergency room at St Alexius when we did!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When we first moved to Streamwood, I had not been feeling well for about a month and a half. I had started a new job and had not been feeling well; dizzy, constant thirst, dizziness. I had first gone to urgent care and was told after taking my blood sugar that i would have to go immediately to the ER because it was 580. My husband took me to the ER and within minutes I was in the back and didnt wait long to see a doctor. He was a really amazing dr with a wonderful bedside manner. I was admitted for 3 days and during that time, I have nothing bad to say about my time there. Everyone was super attentive, very nice and explained everything. Then a few months later, I had to go back because I ended up being in a lot of pain with a kidney infection. Admitted again and was once again impressed with my care. Wonderful hospital!!!!!!! I will definitely return if I need to. :)
My son was brought there because he was acting irrational and having a nervous breakdown. THEY DID NOTHING FOR HIM EXCEPT MAKE HIM WAIT. He was brought there by the police/Emergency services because he was saying he was going to kill himself, run into traffic. He was extremely and obviously distraught and upset but they did NOTHING FOR HIM!!! Just told to wait. When he finally saw a doctor they DID NOTHING FOR HIM. No sedative. No mental evaluation. Just sent him home. Its only a matter of time before they contribute to someones death and are sued. If you can PLEASE ASK THE EMERGENCY SERVICES TO TAKE YOU TO CENTRAL DUPAGE. He went there before and CDH HELPED!”UPDATE. He was transferred to AMITA in Hinsdale.. TERRIBLE place. We know what should be done because he was helped at CDH before. No comparison. He came home more depressed and stressed than he went in.
Zero stars would be a better rating. From someone in the customer service industry the customer service here is garbage. When someone shows up with chest pain you don’t sit them in the lobby to wait for an hour and a half. I left without being seen at this location to be greeted with respect and admitted within 20 minutes elsewhere. What does that tell you when someone with chest pain drives away from your hospital? It tells you that you guys need some serious work with customer relations. Sorry, Not Sorry.
Yes, the waiting room was packed and yes, they clearly were understaffed for the amount of patients. But I saw all the nurses and techs trying their hardest to get around to everyone and make sure everybody was being taken care of. Even though we waited a very long time, the nurses were extremely helpful, extremely nice. And dr. Kawadry was amazing. Even though he was busy, not once did he make us feel rushed. He answered all our questions and took his time explaining everything. Very caring doctor. The staff I had completely made the wait worth it and they took amazing care of my daughter! Keep up the great job, staff! I know times are rough right now. You’re doing great given the circumstances!
I had Cateract surgery and was so nervous on the way to the hospital. I am pretty young to have Cateract surgery so I was very happy that I was able to have my dad with me most of the timeFrom the moment I was greeted at the front door I felt like a family member or close friend was there waiting for me. My feeling of nervousness started to go away!I was never rushed and I never felt like I was just sitting and waiting for someone to check me in or get me prepped.Everyone I came in contact with was very professional and kind. I literally felt like I knew them all on a personal level… even though I have never met them before. I always felt comfortable and safe! .When you are scared and nervous you really appreciate having professionals like this helping you and making you feel comfortable. I highly recommend everyone who crossed my path that day! You can tell they love their jobs! I am so happy that I came here to have my surgery A+++ experience!!
I can’t believe how an ER nurse asks questions of patient right very LOUDLY for the entire room to hear. My person I brought was a potential OD and almost passing out. Had to wait while patients who came in well after to get in a room, most likely because of it being OD. We finally left without being seen and this person is still very sick today . Very poorly handled. Would never go back even on my death bed
If you are seeking emergency medical care, I would strongly suggest looking for another hospital. This hospital claims ON THEIR OWN WEBSITE: Emergency is an emergency. Don’t wait. At our Emergency Department, you will see a medical care provider in 30 minutes or less! .. Then why are we still sitting in the waiting room after two hours with an obviously ill patient and nothing but attitude and apathy from the front desk nurse? Its no wonder shes working the waiting room as she clearly has no bedside manner. When questioned about wait times, she condescendingly advised (with a mostly empty waiting room at 10:00 pm) that its been a very busy day, there are 27 patients ahead of you, and we see everyone in the order they come in. So, apparently, this emergency room does not feel the need to appropriately triage and place patients according to the patients needs, they just put everyone in a single file line and even if youre waiting there in obvious pain, suffering, and distress, you have to wait your turn. Its hard to believe this hospital is JCAHO accredited.
I dont know where to start to ER staff that told us to take Tylenol for broken arm pain. Or doctors who were testing the patient for how much pain they can handle. Or to an orthopedic doctor who said surgery is not needed and then says I dont handle surgery like this.so many red flags to this place. Amita should shut down their orthopedics group.
If I could give 0, I would. What a disappointment. This hospital left my grandmother with bed sores because they couldn’t properly take care of her. I’ll be sure to spread the word about this place because I would NEVER want another family to go through this, and if you have, my heart goes out to you.
I wouldn’t recommend this hospital at all! The nurse in the Er was going to have me thrown out because the volume on my phone was to load. Well if your ER was handled like an Er instead of a zoo I wouldn’t have had my volume on 5.The bathrooms are absolutely disgusting where I had to ask for a maintenance person to come clean them. Well thanks for cleaning one but they both were disgusting.Let’s talk about Covid… I literally watch the lady who checks people in touch everyone’s drivers license without wearing gloves and not one time did she put hand sanitizer on🤦♀️ And then ask someone to put a mask on.. seriously common sense has gone out the window.6.5 hours waiting to see a doctor is a-shame and honestly very disheartening when you ask what’s going on you get “Karen” at the desk to tell what what do you want me to do about it? Idk first how about understanding that people have been waiting 6-7 hours and it’s not what you say it’s how you say it!!
My parents and I were brought into the emergency room here after a near fatal car accident on the highway with a semi truck. Majority of the nurses were extremely rude to both of my parents and myself, laughing and gossiping with each other, showing no compassion and no patience as we had just gone through a traumatizing near death car crash. It seemed like the nurses were extra rude to my parents as we are Korean and my parents don’t speak much english. We were all in separate rooms, and anytime I asked for an update on my parents they would say they’ll get an update for me and never came back into my room again. I asked about 4-5 different nurses/doctors. I also asked to use the restroom 2-3 times, waited 40+ minutes, before my brother eventually went up to the desk to force someone to come let me pee. I was not even offered water or anything the 7 hours I was there. It seemed like the nurses and doctors were not communicating with each other at all because someone would tell me a nurse will come to bring me more pain meds to put in my IV, while another nurse would come in 15 minutes later and start taking out my IV? Half the nurses would tell me theyre bringing me new ice packs or blankets and never came back in. When I was discharged I was given no information about how to go about a follow up, if I even needed one, how to take care of myself, nothing. The packet I received didnt even cover all of my injuries and half of the papers were stapled upside down, they clearly do not care about anything. There were only two nice nurses. One was a blonde woman on the younger side who brought me the portable urinal contraption, and a man with tattoos up his arm who helped me with my ankle and crutches. I called the hospital a couple times after I was discharged to ask about my mom who was still there/ask general questions and was hung up on with sass every single time. I will never come back here again. I would rather put my life at risk and drive further for a different Emergency Room, than ever have to go there again. They made an extremely traumatizing experience that much worse. If you don’t want to help people feel at ease following traumatic accidents and injuries, then maybe don’t work in the ER at a hospital. Those two nice nurses deserve a better environment to work in as well.
Summary: Unhelpful staff, unclean hospital, and overall bad experience.Went to the ER and just needed an ultrasound for my fiancé. We had to wait over an hour just to get his vitals checked. Then another hour for the ultrasound. Then another hour for a room. Then another hour and a half to see the doctor. It was ridiculous. I understand that things sometimes get busy, but other ERs Ive been to put you into a room so youre not waiting in the waiting room most of the time. The nursing staff was rude and unhelpful. We got wrong information from one member of the staff about whether or not a urine sample was needed, and then another nurse was extremely rude when asking for one. My fiancé was in pain the whole time in the waiting room, and it wasnt until the very end of our visit that he was offered anything for it.On top of that, the whole place seemed dirty. I didnt see one person cleaning the whole time I was there. Were in the middle of a global pandemic. They should be working extra hard to keep things clean, but it seemed just the opposite. The only dirtier ER Ive been in was in a third world country. There were bits of stuff on the floor in the bay we finally got put in, indicating that it hadnt been cleaned since the last occupant. Maybe for several? Who knows? Also, their vending machines seemed to be sponsored by Frito-Lay and the Society To Increase Type II Diabetes. I dont know--maybe theyre trying to drum up business by making their clientele sick? At least 1 healthy option would be nice.In summary, Ive spent A LOT of time in ERs. A nice waiting area, friendly staff, and a clean and welcoming atmosphere can turn a frustrating 5-6 hour wait full of pain into a tolerable one. This experience had none of that. This is my second or third encounter with this hospital, and none of them have been positive. The only reason its not one star is because the ultrasound tech was really super nice. Ill be finding a different ER for my emergency visits whenever possible. Also, as a woman the fact that they are a Catholic Hospital and let a man in a funny hat in Rome dictate my healthcare makes me even more eager to never, ever trust them with treatment of my body.
The nurses try their best with what they re given but they are unfortunately too understaffed into the pediatric units. My son was there for 3 days and by the last day it took an average of 20min to even see a nurse when ringing the patient room call bell.We had to say enough and rush our discharge because no one was moving the process forward.
Its time Amita Health gets an online chat support feature. Tired of calling 100 people on the phone and being told to call someone else. This way I can have 5 windows open on my computer and multitask rather than waiting 1hr to get no help. Lets just be real here, wth doesnt have online chat in 2022 as a large service provider?
Terrible horrendous job my dad had to wait to get cleaned for 1 hour even after I told the nurses repeatedly and they told me to wait?!!? They where just on their phone?!? Then they gave him a sedative so he would not bother them anymore?!? What the hell is wrong with this hospital?
Dont bother coming here. Three times now in the last year, I have sat and waited 5+ hours and have left without being seen. I had a double ear infection on top of strep and due to covid my physician wouldnt see me and suggested coming here. (Because every illness now is covid.) I ended up leaving here and going to elmhurst hospital and was in and out in 1 hour. This place is a joke and before you think all of their issues are due to covid, its not. Pre-covid my son broke his arm and we waited 6 hours before we could be seen. The nurses are rude and lack compassion. Ive witnessed them yell at patients in the waiting room and talk down to them. Years ago this hospital was great, now its just garbage. Pretty sad that I live in Hoffman, but have to drive all the way to Elmhurst for any type of emergency care.
Went to get an breat ultrasound/ mammogram. The person who registered me when I got in made an error. Because I am under 30, I had to get an ultrasound first. They scheduled me for a mammogram first and made me wait even longer until the ultrasound nurse was ready. When I got in the ultrasound room, the nurse said they could not see me because I had no imagery from my previous ultrasound from another hospital (several years ago). I was never informed that I needed this information. I tried explaining my medical history, why it was extremely needed. For some reason, that and my doctor referral was not enough. I waited over an hour, dressed in a gown, in the patient room just to be told I cannot be seen. This has been the worst medical costumer service I have ever encountered. Extremely unprofessional and rude. I will never use their services again. I reccomed CDH other than this trash heap of a hospital. What a waste of time.
Waited on hold for over half an hour only to be told that the specialist number that the receptionist at my PCPs office had given me was wrong. Not my first negative experience at this facility, by far, in fact the overall level of rudeness (being treated like Im an inconvenience, etc.), incompetence, disinformation, and just plain laziness here is deplorable.
Just had my 2nd non-ER visit to St. Alexius and the care was great as usual. Needed an MRI done (neck issues). Unfortunately, Im too big for even their wide bore machine. But their staff is excellent, and a big thumbs up to the MRI tech Elizabeth H. She would not give up on trying to get me to fit, was polite, kind, and knowledgeable. Between this and my surgery I needed last year St. Alexius is the tops with me.
I arrived at the hospital for my scheduled knee replacement surgery at 6:30am.It’s now 815pm and I’m in my room watchinga hockey gm and am SHOCKED at the Quality of care this hospital and it’s employees provide .No joke ‘ it’s amazing. At 6:30am the check in was a breeze then Maria escorted me up to surgery .Once there I had Roy and Kate as prep nursesAnd they were great . My surgeon Dr Nourbash’ came to visit me twice before my surgery and answered every question I had and just talked for a little bit. After my surgery They rolled into my room which was maybe 50 yards if that .Again Dr Nourbash came to see how I was feeling.I know it’s only my first day but what a guy .His reviews are FIVE stars and his bed side manners are the same .My room was very comfortable and once again the nursing staff was fantastic.Helpful in every way and smiles from everyone. This place was by far the BEST hospital experience I have ever .Thank so you much St. Alexis and your amazing staff . God Bless
Gynecologist and some nurses(Gyne ward) were great professionals and courteous. However few nurses were unprofessional and horrible. Imagine newly born baby and the nurse while fixing umbilical Cord spreads the blood over the baby’s face and then without cleaning hands over the baby to the mom.I politely asked to clean while she had just spread it , I got attitude in response and she DIDN’T clean. The other nurse with ‘ego and I am the busiest nurse in the world’, which was okay until she asked us to get ready in 20 mins to go home and she would be back with wheel chair. After two hours of wait and few calls to helpline, she finally shows up without wheelchair and says let’s go now, not even an acknowledgement that she was late and she kept us waiting and calling. When asked where is wheelchair she said my wife could walk and it is good.We choose this hospital, though far from our home, because we were impressed with the staff and empathy received during our first baby experience and hospital was still St. Alexius. I Guess hospital priorities have now changed. I would NOT recommend this unprofessional hospital to any of my friends.
If you want to live and black please avoid St Alexius Medical Center ER in Hoffman Estates. I went to this ER because I had a bad reaction to an infusion I had received at another facility. Everything started off nice. The nurses were nice and accommodating. I saw the attending doctor. Suddenly I was rushed from a warm room into ice old room like a freezer.I asked for a blanket. I ended up with 3 blankets....Still freezing.I ask the charge nurse why I was moved, she was nasty and murmured something then walked away. Several hours passed .... I still have the needle in my arm. I asked several times to please take the needle out so that I can put on my coat. I then realized this was the room that the ambulance comes through with the double sliding doors, covered with frost that goes directly outside. This was the first coldest day of the winter, single digits. I saw a nurse I called for her to please take the needle out, she did. I put my coat on and then went over to the attending doctor. I directly asked him why didn’t he say something? His answer was “don’t you get Medicaid,” The nurse supervision and charge nurse standing right there. I replied No, I have Blue Cross, Blue Shield and is this why I’m being mistreated! The charged nurse then called over a security guard, The charge nurse was jumpy, shaking like she needed drugs or something. Horrible experiences. This hospital should be shut down!! I clearly was discriminated against. And this is not the first time. My mother died there after being neglected. I reported how I was treated to the person that takes care of situations like that I experience to her assistant, I have not heard from her. I left my phone number..... always in a meeting. I want justice!
Our son had to have his appendix out recently and I am so glad it was at St. Alexius. They were AMAZING!! The entire pediatric wing did an incredible job and made my son so comfortable that even having surgery wasnt as scary as it could have been. We will definitely be taking our other children there if the need arises.
How in the world is it possible for Amita Health to hire such ignorant and rude people to run their ER front desk department !!!???Patients come to ER with life threatening heath issues seeking immediate medical care, but NO first they have to deal with such rudeness front desk employees !!!HR department should overlook their training manual book and add several pages on customer service training before sitting these people at this facility !!!Anyone that is looking for emergency medical attention, go somewhere else !!!
Had my knee replaced on Thursday January 28th and it was the worst experience of my life! Surgery was at 10:30, they pushed me into a room on a bed at 2:30. Nobody came into my room until I hit the call button at 4 to tell them I was in excruciating pain. Finally around 4:30 a nurse came in to give me a shot. I laid there from 4:30 till 9:30 I demanded they contact my doctor. The nurse told me my doctor never wrote instructions for physical therapy which makes no sense at all, Im on a joint replacement floor. My doctor informed me that he left notes on everything and he would speak to the CO of the hospital the next day. I didnt get out of bed till almost 9 hours after being pushed in there, I got up to pee. The nurses and staff were completely useless and uncaring. I was abandoned in my room the whole time. They would write on my board when I was due next for meds and they would come over an hour past the due time. I will be seeking an attorney for this experience.
We were billed twice for the emergency room, but the second bill wasnt even sent to us, it was sent straight to collections. We were told we were paid in full when we left. This is completely unacceptable and unprofessional behavior. I dont even know how to resolve this, and Im considering never using this hospital in the future from now on.
I have had 3 c-sections, my gall bladder removed, and ectopic pregnancy, and recently another surgery at this facility, and I want to commend the staff, from the non-degreed to the doctors, for their exceptional care and respect that I was treated with, in the past and today. This facility and their doctors will continually be the place I and my family go to for our healthcare.
Excellent Care; one of the best hospitals in NW Suburbs. JUST DO NOT EAT THE FOOD - it is perhaps the worst food ever eaten in the United States. I totally trust the incredible doctors, nurses and PCTs at this hospital. I dont know what the cooks do to the food (served to patients), but order out and youll heal and go home healthy again!Update: 06-16-2021 - Heres a photo of what they served my wife for lunch. Can anyone tell me what is on that plate???
I was seen today in the emergency room. The nurses, doctors, and PA was caring and did what they could for me. My symptoms returned and I called back asking for advice. I was put on hold and nurse debbie came on. She was dry as a desert no compassion whatsoever.. She didnt even pretend to care. I explained to her my symptoms came back and that I didnt have money to be charged again. She basically cared less. I mean it cost you nothing to be nice even if you cant help. She just blew me off without even trying to help me. Be nice Debbie. You are in the wrong field to be nonchalant
I had to go to the ER on Saturday for multiple infections. The nursing staff was great the ER Doctor was amazing Dr Christopher MCSwanne he was so attentive and thorough . He let me ask questions , he had a great bed side manor . The ultrasound techs and CT techs were efficient and kind. Considering how much pain and misery I was in, it was nice to know I was being taken good care of .
The worst hospital i have ever been to. Just went for a stress test. I have since fired my cardiologist who works for Amita and is nothing more then a salesman for them. The staff as a whole is unprofessional. Dirty facility. The cardiologist and his staff are terrible people. If you value your health then go somewhere else. Amitas billing will kill you if their staff or filthy facility doesnt do it first.
🎯My mother was admitted to the hospital after coming through the ER at approximately 7pm this past week. She has Congestive Heart Failure, some Dementia, and other medical issues and was experiencing extreme shortness of breath and other concerns when I took her into the ER.Upon being able to secure a bed at approximately 2am the next morning, she was taken to her room along with a bag of personal toiletries I brought from home for her use (toothpaste, toothbrush, deodorant, lotion, etc).Prior experience in Amita Healthcare of Hoffman Estates is that help would be given to my mother with her toiletries by the Patient Care Tech.1) Unfortunately, my mother’s large tube of moisturizing lotion was stolen from the bag of other toiletry items in her bag. Nothing else was missing.- This is one of the down sides to not being able to be in the room directly with your loved-one and help them with their ADL’s (activities of daily living).*For the record, It’s despicable to take anything from a patient, period, whatever the item is, which was provided by the family.*Additionally, it’s especially unfortunate that no one else cares too much about it, if at all ....when things go missing...accept the family who is most vested in their family members’ healthcare and their overall well-being.2) The second issue is that there is a large, red rash underneath and across the length of her stomach, which had obviously gone untreated. This was never even mentioned to me by any of the nurses I spoke with during the week my mom was there.🎯Today I spoke with a Lead Floor Nurse, Vanessa on 4-North (where my mother stayed), then, I spoke with the Director of Telemetry, Ms. Blessey Palli about it.**Sadly, neither of these Amita staff members directly addressed it ...in any, way, shape or form. Nor did they offer any apology or concern about follow-up care.**But wait until the same thing or worse happens to them or their loved-ones, and watch how fast they respond with a “sense of urgency” and immediacy in at least an attempt to....”make the situation right”.*This would usually be discovered “if” a Patient Care Tech was assisting with washing/cleaning the patient and any problems discovered would be reported to the attending nurse, then documented and followed up by contacting a doctor for the necessary treatment. NyStop would have helped to clear it.3) The next issue of concern is that she is having bleeding from the rectal area, which I brought up when I brought her to the ER as well as to the ER Doctor & the Nurses treating her.- The floor nurse(s) were also made aware, yet there was no treatment given to stop this from happening.- This was also explained in detail to the hospital patient care contact who called me to go over my mom’s details, medications, concerns, etc.**There has got be more care, concern & thorough attentiveness to patient issues, patient care, patient needs....upon said issues & concerns being discussed in detail with staff by the family member directly.**Checking the patient’s face & body for any marks or bruises, etc., which are out of the ordinary should also be of the utmost importance in documenting when seeing the patient daily, then ensuring the patient gets needed treatment as a follow up.Attentiveness, followed by being helpful, caring & responsive should rule the day...each day of a patient’s in- hospital stay in particular, rather than allowing these serious medical concerns to go unchecked and un-addressed with the proper, timely medical treatment. This does nothing include all staff, but the ones whose heart really isn’t in patient care know who they are and they should just get out of the industry and make room for those who can and will care for patients like they were their own family; with dignity, compassion, empathy, detail-orientation and thoughtful consideration, daily. If it were their family member in need I’m certain it would be different because I’ve seen it happen on several occasions through the years. It’s an extremely sad and deplorable, yet, a true fact.🎯
Recently had my hysterectomy here, from my initial MRI appointments up into my actual surgery date, the staff at registration, the nursing staff during my stay were all professionals, and appeared as if they cared about my well being.. Good bedside manners. I will admit that my doctor who performed my surgery didn’t follow up initially with my family after my surgery and they were worried about me. I would recommend this hospital seeing as though I’ve had two separate hospital procedures, and also stayed here a few days when I caught a stomach virus.
This is the worse hospital i have ever been to. Been waiting 4 hours for my son to be seen. To be told almost every hour there was 3 people ahead of him. His running a 103 fever and this place could careless. So many children in this er waiting room. This hospital could careless about children or the elderly
I came in with covid 19 on late May. I had been so deprived of oxygen I couldnt remember my doctor or my birth date. After just giving them my wallet and getting through the confusion I was brought into the ER. I was brought to 3 different rooms during my visit, I had extreme difficulty breathing at one point and ended up in the ICU. It took a few days for my brain to function properly to actually notice and interact with the staff.I have to say Im extremely surprised at the low reviews as I have interacted with over 2 dozen nurses and half a dozen doctors and while i had one negative experience when i discussed it with a head nurse I had no future problems. The staff was very friendly, helpful, and compassionate. Something I dont normally get while at a hospital and didnt expect during a pandemic. I wish I could remember everyone as I didnt hey to see most of them when I left. I am so grateful for the care they gave me as I fought for my life.I enjoyed Tylers company he was always so friendly and encouraging. Virginia was so sweet, the grandma of your dreams, we had long talks about movies and tv shows. Thank you to all that took care of me, my family and I are very grateful!
I just recently had outpatient surgery at St Alexius and my care was excellent. From the CNA, to the pre-op, surgical, post-op nurses, doctors, and chaplain, I couldnt have asked for better treatment and holistic care. Thank you all for making me feel comfortable for my first surgical procedure. I give you all an A+. Thank you for everything you do. God Bless.
Today I took my nana mass and i had a completely horrible experience. I was harrassed by a aggressive man who had no right to speak to me at all. I told this man dont talk to me I thought he worked there so I asked to speak to someone on that department, that when gina lyke staff chaplain got involved. I explained what happened and her response was passive and then the man came back to the area being aggressive again she walked down the hall talking to him Instead Of Calling Security! So I walked the other way down the hall asked a staff to call security now gina ope8a side door for this person and allowed him to leave the building before security came so naturally I couldnt persuade and pressured charges because I would have. The whole situation was not okay and I was miss treated and the have employees being passive making excuses for the random person is really disturbing and discouraging he kept saying well if you want to fill a complaint then well we might not be able to allow people in the chapel??? Hello that has Nothing to do with the mistreatment I experienced today. So Im waiting to here back from Charles Green whos in charge of spiritual care services and also Mindy Doumani patient experience please note I will be posting a up date about this incident.
Most of the staff was amazing. I definitely favored a couple of them. One that stood out the most was Kim. She is such a sweet lady. The Drs and nurse team I had for my C section were amazing. Respectful and kind. Everyone has definitely tried to make me as comfortable as possible. There was only one problem I had. And its with the kitchen staff. Every time I got my meals things were either cold, super cold, or not even cooked fully. But besides that, I adored Suzie and Kim very much as my nurses! And I hope they know that they are well respected. I had an issue with one of the nurses. And when I expressed my concerns. The charge nurse immediately took action. Im thankful for that!
Im writing this review because of an assistant called Manal. Today, I spoke with her over phone but she was unprofessional and a rude assistant which made me feel crazy by hanging phone suddenly and not answering my questions. If shes busy and inpatient with customers. Better off for her to look for another job. This not the way how to deal with customers. Honestly, by her behavior shes portraying a bad image about the hospital despite the knowledge that could the doctors have at this facility.
I had a terrible experience with Amita. I was sent by my doctor to do two simple HCG blood tests. Just two blood tests. When I checked in, they took my insurance and told me everything is covered. A few months later, I got bills adding up to almost $1,000 - for two simple blood tests. I called their billing department, and of course, they did not care and just want me to pay. Please do not get yourself into this situation by going to Amita.
After going through some serious testing, ordered by her doctor, and performed at one of the Doctors Building, my sister’s doctor felt it necessary to admit her. That admission took over 4 hours! She sat in a waiting room, in pain, for over 2 hours before being moved to an ER room, where she sat again for over 2 1/2 hours, before being moved to an actual hospital room. She had to have additional testing the next morning and ultimately had a heart procedure. After which, she was left to sit in a tiny outpatient room, in an uncomfortable outpatient bed, with a curtain, no tv, and not a lot of privacy or rest, for 8 hours!! How is that taking care of a patient!?
I was rush at emergency by my husband due to i am pregnant for 6weeks and having a spotting bleeding issue. And had a whole left side waist hurting severe. Come in at 9:50am had to wait for half hr. Just to get my vital sign and wait for another half hour and still no doctor or nurse willing to put me inside to check whats going on already. End up going home and came instead to a urgent care to check whats happening to me.- VERY POOR SERVICE- RUDE STAFF MEMBERSDO NOT COME HERE!! I DO NOT RECOMMEND IT!!!!
Where do we go when we have running nose or other flu/cold symptoms but not having fever or cough during this pandemic? The hospital clinic refuses patients with cold symptoms and send them to the ER with overpriced ER bills. I’m currently 28 weeks pregnant. About two months ago I had some runny nose before my regular check and my OB doctor wont see me unless I got checked up by a doctor or physician. So I went to the clinic at AMITA Health St. Alexius Medical Center Hoffman Estates, people there said all patient had cold or flu symptoms had to go to ER, even I didnt have fever or cough, so I had to follow the direction. They only checked me on flu and strep and told me it was just regular cold and sent me home. After two weeks we received a bill showing we have to pay over 700 dollars after insurance adjustment. I called the billing office and a lady told me it shouldnt be such an amount and asked me to wait for them to re-bill. She also asked me to call again if I received the same balance on the next bill. Then the second bill came in with the same balance so I called the billing office again. Another lady answered the phone but just kept saying we have to pay the ER cost. And we’ve called the billing center numerous times but still nothing changed. It is very frustrating that our income has already reduced a lot because of the pandemic.
If you have an issue with your experience here, please give the Nursing Managers and patient advocate a chance to address the problem.Mindy and Laura were amazing. They are inpatient caseworkers that are sIncere and will do everything to solve your concerns.Patricia, Nursing Manager for 2 East, was very attentive and kind during my second stay. She took a personal interest in my concerns, and helped me during my stay.If you have concerns, give the St Alexius staff a chance to address your issues. You will see that they really want this hospital to provide you with the best care. The Nursing Staff on 2 East was much better than the hospitals on the Shore.
Horrible!!! I had the worst experience ever at this hospital’s labor and delivery. I delivered my baby via c section, and being a first time mom I was expecting much more care and attention. However, the nurses that were assigned to me were really rude and didn’t really care to answer any questions. They would only come and check on me when I call them for something. I was also surprised with how cheap they are with providing supplies. I had to call and ask each time I needed any postpartum supplies and wait for at 30 min to an hour for a nurse to come in and bring them. They also acted really stingy with providing baby formula like other things they only bring 2 bottles at a time. I didn’t any instructions during discharge instead i was told to read the packet they gave me. I really regret choosing this hospital for such a special moment in my life.
Review is for the ER nursing staff on night shift, I had surgery there in the evening and got out late. I called with a concern at 2:30am, I was transferred to the ER.When the nurse got on the phone she refused to give me any help or advice to whether I need to be seen tonight. No one available to answer questions to some one that just had surgery there, it’s ridiculous. No wonder it has 2.5 star reviews only. At first I thought people might just be extra picky but to reject help to a patient that just had surgery at the location, what kind of hospital is this.....
Had Day Surgery and every employee encountered very friendly and professional. The nurses that cared for me (Jennette and Roy) did a great job and both had great positive qualities. Not sure about some of the negative reviews but my Day Surgery experience was definitely 5 Stars!
Slowest ER Ive ever been in. Jesus 3 hours and still havent been seen. Just in waiting roomCouple years later edit: definitely dont take family here. Theyll hold them hostage and tell you lies all day long then never call you with updates. DO NOT GO HERE!! DO NOT GO HERE!
Had our first child here in 2013 and returned just because of the amazing people who treated us with such respect and love the we just had to come back. Had our second baby in January 2018 and.... Well... I get why they have 2 stars. The nurses assigned to us had 0 empathy and were very curt with my wife. We couldnt wait to get out of there. A C-section and a low blood sugar baby separated from her but instead of empathy she got an hourly serving of attitude. My one recommendation to any one having a baby, find a better place to have the best week of your life. Respect your partner by not taking her to this hell hole.
My husband went to the ER with signs of a bad infection. From the moment we entered the building until we left, we were treated with respect and care. We were quickly seen. His symptoms were taken seriously. Blood work, IVs and other parts of his care were seamlessly woven together. The doctor was knowledgable, professional, personable. He was experience with infectious diseases from other countries. Every detail was attended to. Can any trip to an ER be pleasant? This one may have been.
Had a series of tests in January due to covid. Set up payments plans with Amita and first payment was due in Feburary. My wife made payments to Helen the cashier at SAMC who is wonderful and very helpful in Feb,March,April,May,June, July and August and never missed a payment and we keep getting letters from R I medical billing saying we missed payment and if they dont hear from us they are going to send it to collections.. Tried calling the RI medical billing and cant get any info. We stated to them we made all payments and have all Visa receipts.THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. PLEASE PULL ALL RECORDED MESSAGES THAT ARE RECORDED FOR QUALITY PURPOSES AND ALL BILLING RECORDS...PEOPLE BEWARE OF THIS HORRIBLE SERVICE. IF AMITA TAKE ME TO BILLING COLLECTION I WILL FILE A CASE AGAINST THEM AND WIN.
My Daughter had her baby on June 20, 2019. It’s a clean hospital. The delivery was good. However, when it came time to breastfeed, I noticed nothing was coming out of the nipple. I told the nurses I was concerned. They said the baby does not need much to eat the first few days. However one nurse was very concerned that the baby nurse and not loose too much weight. She tried to help with nursing but had to call another nurse. The other nurse gave her a plastic nipple to see if that would help. I stayed with my daughter for 12 hours. In those 12 hours I did not see the my daughters baby eating. Nothing was coming out. I told the nurses I was concerned and I was afraid my grandbaby might get dehydrated. They reassured me everything was normal. I have had 3 children and I breastfed all of them. I know when nothing is coming out. Today my daughter tells me that a nurse came in the morning at her home and told her she was concerned about the baby’s weight. She had lost too much wieght. My grandbaby is only 6 days old. She advised my daughter to feed the baby every 2 hours and also feed with formula. If the baby is not eating enough to bring her to the hospital. I would have thought she should have told her to take her baby to the hospital right away. My daughter and son in law ended up taking her to the emergency room. My grandbaby had to have an IV and given fluids because she was dehydrated. I guess St Alexius hospital felt my grandbaby was not important enough to make sure she was eating. This is my daughters first baby. She followed all of their directions correctly. They did not care enough to follow through on breast feeding and making sure the baby was eating. I am hoping that my grandbaby doesn’t have critical life injuries because of their negligence. I have recorded everything!
Second floor post op ortho unit is the reason I am writing this review so this doesnt happen to anyone else! Some nurses, PCT, PT and OT were so caring and provided compassionate care to my mom however the nurse(Sam) who was assigned on the discharge was extremely rude when I questioned regarding my mom extreme swelling on her surgical and non surgical leg! She flat out told me what do you want me to do? Why didnt you tell the attending Dr. earlier regarding this swelling? Her discharge paper are ready! Do you guys want to just say here what do you want me to do? This is all normal swelling after the surgery she was like I will message the attending Dr.! This nurse never came to check on my mom except to go over the discharge instructions which she pretty much handed the paper to me without talking much! Never asked my mom once how she is feeling! PT even said in the morning that my mom looks exhausted, getting short of breath and wheezing compare to other days! She checked her oxygen while my mom was walking and it was keep going below 90! All the signs were there to not charge her but knowing the health care they dont want patient to stay past 7days so they sent us home! Every single person told me that it is normal to have swelling after the surgery! My moms health got worse when she came home and had to readmitted at the Alexian brothers hospital! Thanks to Dr. Grant in the ER who ordered the right test for my mom and found out she had pulmonary edema! Yes! pulmonary edma caused extreme swelling and shortness of breath not the surgery! She pretty had heart failure! All the signs were present when we got charged from st. Alexius hospital extreme swelling, shortness of breath, wheezing and oxygen dropping below 90! Overload in IV fluid to make my moms creatinine go back to normal was the major cause of extra fluid build up in her body causing lung and putting stress on her heart! On the positive side I am very satisfied with the surgeon Dr. Chhadia who did my moms knee surgery, Dr. Gries the cardiologist and her primary care Dr. Chhabra! Extremely caring and excellent bed side manners! St. Alexius hospital please train your staff properly on caring for patients and dont ignore the extreme signs of patients health!
I spent over 4 hours in the ER today. Worst decision of my life. I should have left and gone to Northwest Community Hospital. I was in so much pain, a migraine, I decided to stay. This hospital doesnt uphold any of their values. They have so many inconsistencies. The nurses were cold, calloused and jaded toward my pain. I asked for certain things to be done with my meds via IV and all I got were excuses. They were irritated when I pressed the nurses button. I was treated like an addict because of the level of my pain. I was told I maxed all of my medicine options. I was told that I wouldnt be able to be treated with narcotics if I kept going in. I would get a letter and referred elsewhere. I asked to speak with a charge nurse and all I got was excuses. This ER is very, poorly run. Not to mention my room was dirty, I had to change my own sheets and the nurse got blood all over the floor from taking blood and didnt clean it. Im extremely disappointed in the quality of care that I received. I was treated, like a criminal and not a patient.
Ive stood by the now AMITA since it was Resurrection Health on the understanding that being at least nominally Catholic, the care is generally better. Wrong!!!Ive learned my lesson, trying to schedule a Covid test at St Alexius. Nobody cares, no one will help. The scheduling service still hasnt called me back after 3 days on the phone. In the meantime, I have symptoms and feel quite sick. The stress of not being able to access AMITA care makes me feel worse.I have never come across such incompetence and lack of care in my life.I cannot even access my primary doctor. No one available. So I will be shifting allegiance. No longer will I pay for shoddy treatment and abuse by neglect.I will also tell all my Catholic friends: stay away from AMITA.You have had your rewards, you will not have my business.
This hospital is prejudice, unwelcoming and I WILL NEVER COME HERE AGAIN!I wish I could give 0 stars, but it wouldn’t allow me to do so.Whee to start, I was called 4-5 times by 4 or 5 different people giving me different pre-op instructions and different times for the surgery. My registration was a disaster and the check in staff are bigots. I was walked back to the nursing station for vitals. I had the most amazing nurse and tech, they were both patient, sweet, kind and genuinely concerned. I wasn’t given any sort of run around from either of them. The nurse (again was amazing) reviewed my medications, history, etc. He went into great detail as to what I should expect from start to finish. This information was great but would have been even better had anyone of the pre-op receptionists informed me of this prior. I was originally told I should expect to be here 2-3 hours after surgery, well no, that was no longer the case, now I needed to add additional, lengthy tests. I even added an extra hour for late start or technical difficulties. Well, now I have to completely change my pick up time by 3-4 hours. My sister was not available to pick me up at that time and also rearranged her children’s schedules and her own work schedule to be available at the time I was originally given.Needless to say at this point I’m furious but trying very hard not to take it out on the nurse or staff. So we go into detail about the times and told him that’s not going to work for my ride and that I’d need to come up with a plan b, and if not, I would have to take an Uber home. He said that wasn’t allowed since someone needed to come in and sign for my discharge papers. And, if I didn’t have a family member come and pick me up, they wouldn’t proceed with the surgery because it’s a liability on their end.So let’s recap, I received 5 different sets of pre op information, I received specific times for the surgery that were changed three times, I never received a call back on pre op clarification, I had to change my work schedule (again) I had to come 5 hours earlier than scheduled (was notified the day before) the front desk staff was disgusting, I received BRAND NEW information about post op testing, I was told we probably cannot do the surgery if I didn’t have a family member come get me.How is any of the information I listed above acceptable in a medical work environment?? You are not doing any of this work for free, you are being paid thousands and thousands of dollars from my insurance, you are paid for every single second of your time, your time is not more valuable than mine, your schedules do not supersede anyone else’s and your disregard to patients and their time is unacceptable. It took me an hour and a half to adjust everyone else’s schedule to make sure someone was available to pick me up. Luckily my sister was still able to pick me up, albeit she had to wait two hours.. since everything was pushed back.I will never, EVER, IN MY LIFE, ever, set foot into this hospital or any of its affiliations ever again. I would rather be treated at cook country or die, rather than ever come here again and pay for this disservice. This type of treatment, lack of regard to my time and lack of communication is a lawsuit and a disaster waiting to happen.I did check the online reviews prior to coming here and I wish I would have listened to my instinct and stayed as far away as possible. If you love yourself or your family members, please seek medical attention elsewhere. And please, I would appreciate it if your generic “reputation management” team didn’t try to contact me at all to try and “get more information to rectify the situation” save that bs for someone who isn’t aware of the garbage-like disservices your facility has to offer. There was a character limit to this post, so you are lucky I wasn’t able to post the original 4 page review I wanted to leave. Please shut down ASAP!Disgusted and alarmed.
I had ALIF (spine fusion) surgery at Amita in Elk Grove and ended up in serious condition at another hospital. The Hospitalist and Surgeon lack of follow-up almost killed me. I begged them to look at my incision and my leg. I was discharged with an incision infection, a large amount of fluid in my abdomen, a DVT blood clot that went from the top of my leg more than half way down my thigh, and untreated Anemia. I had to have emergency surgery at another hospital and they told me the chance I would survive was slim. Please, please rethink any decision to go here! In addition, I tried to get erroneous information in my medical file corrected and the person in Admissions (who I was told were the only department that could update the medical record) made it clear she had no desire to help and just hung up! Nothing about this place is good!
Pediatric Intensive Care Unit-- we were traveling from MD to MN and drove through Chicago to stay the night. Our daughter became extremely ill and I took her to the ER here. It was about 11pm on a weeknight just before Christmas. The ER staff saw her promptly and transferred her up to the PICU within two hours of checking in. The nursing staff in the PICU was the most amazing group of nurses we have ever been treated by.My daughter ended up spending Christmas in the hospital and the nurses went out of the way to make it extra special for her. Could not say enough good things about the team on the PICU floor :)
Used this hospital again for our 2nd. HUGE MISTAKE. Nurses were incompetent and no where to be found in our 3 day stay here. Of the few good ones, they all had complaints about the hours and pay. Wife was experiencing pain and nurses were called twice and still nobody showed after 20 minutes. Went outside and see that theres 6 nurses just chatting and sitting around. Housekeeping was called multiple times through our stay and never came. Through the 3 day stay, they only came once to give us fresh sheets. Complaints to the charge nurse went unheard and there was no compassion in the healthcare that was provided to us. We couldnt get out of there fast enough. Now Ive found out that they processed the birth certificate wrong so having to deal with that ordeal. Seriously reconsider if you plan on using them for labor. We wish we went to Good Shepard.
Terrible place. Came here to have some help with my sister who was having drug induced psychosis and was told her would have to come in and consent to it. My sister was NOT sound of mind and hallucinating and all I got was that, the other nurses just sat there talking to each other. Finally, we got the Schaumburg police department involved (who were total angels and amazing despite my mother and i being hysterical) got her to come in for check up. My sister was severely dehydrated and had no IV drip. We rarely saw the nurses besides when they’re just goofing off and talking to each other. Let’s not forget the attitude either. They didn’t take her seriously and shipped her off to Streamwood hospital which is another story. Got her help at Northwest community hospital and our only regret was not going in sooner there. I will be changing my medical group from this facility to Northwest, that’s how much faith I have in this place.
I gave them 1 star if they had negative star ratings they would get more. I went to the ER at this hospital in an ambulance; it was not my choice. The night staff was Very rude. The place was a dump and not very clean. I was put on a monitor which no one checked ( too busy with their cell phones). I was there for 10 hours. The day staff was much better and finally took care of me. St. Alexius used to be a good hospital then Amita came along. For them its all about the money.
Do not deliver your baby at this hospital. If you deliver early they DO NOT attempt to save your baby. Odd since it’s a “catholic hospital”? If you do have the unfortunate experience of delivering your child here transfer them IMMEDIATELY do not allow their NICU to take care of them. Do not be fooled by their prestigious level 3 NICU status. They are incompetent and unable to care for critically ill babies. I transferred my son out of this hospital and I honestly regret not doing it sooner. Please stay away, do not be fooled by patient services asking to resolve the issue. They do not care. Polly Davenport you should be ashamed as a the CEO of this heath system. I hope the state of Illinois shuts this NICU down for good.
I had a couple of family members who were hospitalized for Covid. They had the best care, many Doctors were involved and a Caseworker kept everyone well informed. They are extremely knowledgeable about the disease and because of their quick actions, our family members will make a full recovery. This hospital treated the first Covid patient in Illinois in March 2020. They have a high success rate. They even sent our family members to a top rated acute rehab hospital, Marianjoy in Wheaton, IL with more great success.
TERRIBLE. I went to the ER last night with my 14 month old who has croup. We sat for 2 hours and were not seen. A police officer came in with a person he arrested for a DUI and that person was seen and released before for us! We ended up leaving at 12:30 AM and went to a nearby hospital were we were seen immediately. DO NOT GO TO THIS HOSPITAL UNLESS YOU WANT TO WAIT FOREVER AND NOT BE SEEN. There is ZERO compassion from the staff as well. I asked for a straw for my son to drink some water while waiting and you would have thought I ask the woman to run a mile and get me a straw and bring it back. TERRIBLE. TERRIBLE. TERRIBLE.
My father brought my mother to the ER on October 5th 2018. Needless to say it took almost six hours for my mother to be admitted and given a bed. She constantly complained about her leg bothering her which the ER staff responded we have to coordinate with the doctor upstairs which they never did. Finally after she was admitted they did the tested needed which discovered some serious problems however it was too late. She fought valiantly up until things took a turn on the 7th only to succumb to complications on the 8th. Too add insult to injury ICU internist basically said we are giving up and its basically a wait and see aspect at this point and most people dont recover from these sorts of things. So instead of giving some glimmer of hope they give up. I will applaud the nurse who took care of her when she was in a regular room because he did all that he could to ensure she was provided the care that she needed and he took it really hard when he found out that she didnt make it. It speaks volumes of his devotion to his work.
I shouldve read others reviews before entering into ER. Visited hospital with extreme ear pain, waited for 2 hours and occasionally visited by nurses asking some questions. There was no proper equipment that is required for the cleaning. Nurses did the cleaning (syringe with water) without the doctor. Doctor finally came to say I can go since there is no infection. When I tried to explain I still feel some discomfort, the doctor said it might be the water that got into ear while cleaning and I will be OK eventually. Overall, its a bad experience.
Horrible. Went in screaming in pain from 2 blocked kidney stones and damage to my right leg. I was told to shut up by a pregnant doctor stating I was upsetting her ER. She didnt tell a child to shut up. Locked me in a clear room. No phone. No nurses button to press for help. Told me ER is only for someone bleeding n needs stitches n broken bones! Dont go if you are in pain!!!
WORST E.R. ever! You talk your business in the lobby out in the open. The wait time is horrendous! Currently here with my sister. She is pregnant. They brought her back after waiting nearly an hour. Little did I know this was to get her blood work and start an I.v. She was brought back out to wait AGAIN afterwards. On several occasions this hospital has proved it is the worst. I would never consider this hospital for myself. If you can take my advice and go elsewhere. Once another family member came to this hospital via ambulance and still was brought back out to wait in the emergency lobby. Ive seen television hospitals ran better than this. Horrible experience! Front the front desk to the back. They obviously dont even know what HIPAA means. Current time here: 2 hours AND we are still on the emergency wait room, havent made it to the back. This should not be called the emergency room. Turtles move faster! There is no sense of urgency, compassion consideration sympathy or respect. The whole emergency department is pathetic.
I waited two weeks to get lab test results sent to my doctor that should taken 5 days or less. I had to call two times to get the results sent. Go somewhere else to get your lab test.Another bad experience now with my mother in law. She a 94 yr old, has been in the hospital for over a week and if we did not tell the staff that she smells like a homeless they still would not have bathed her.. this is unacceptable care..if you have a choice take your love one somewhere else..
My experience was with my 4 year old daughter; from first being admitted to the Elk Grove hospital and then transported to the Hoffman Estates, without a doubt they treated her with such love and care. We are still sitting in her room, and while this is the Christmas season, she was able to meet Santa via Facetime and then a room visit. The thought that goes behind every small gesture to help make their experience of being sick that much better. I really give it to the hospitality staff and each nurse for all they do. I would hate knowing we might have to come back, but if we did I know that she and any of our children would be in good hands! Hats off to the Doctors, Nurses and staff for helping our Baby get better!
If I could give 0 stars for the ER, I would. My 84 year old father who is not well to begin with came in via ambulance due to a fall. His hand and arm were ripped open requiring stitches. They determined that he didnt have a heart attack, etc...then sent him to the waiting room in a wheel chair for about 5 hours, maybe more... In total he was there for 7 hours. Ridiculous doesnt even begin to cover it.What the hell is going on that the waiting room was so full AND was even more full when we left at 7:00pm? We had good service once we got in the back. Funny thing though...on our side (as we had been told) there was one PA and one nurse and only 3 patients...empty rooms too.Dont tell me that there are too many people needing care...I watched the entire time...few people were called in the back to be seen. And no one seemed to be in a hurry...This should be fixed. Something is horribly wrong and I blame management.
They let my father’s cancer go until it was stage 4 and too late to cure, despite regular screenings. They would have done the same to my mom if she hadn’t fought for a second and third look. She will forever live with health problems because of the treatment they gave her.
Whoever the emergency room nurse was in the morning on February 23rd was extremely unprofessional. There was a police officer trying to calm down an irate individual and she yelled at the police officer from across the room to go to a different area. I’ve never seen such disrespect for law enforcement from a nurse who is supposed to be a professional. Very disappointing.
I want to emergency treatment in Alexian brother hospital Hoffman Estate for my wife. I can able to see doctor after 5 hrs of long wait. Her treatment completed after 6 hours. She is pregnant with twins and She had to sit down on chair for 5 hours. they are not able to provide bed for rest. all staff are being rude with all patient. Two patient went to another hospital after long wait. Such a joke under name of Emergency. i never go again in this hospital. never never..........i give ...0......out of 10...
This hospital saved my dad from dying of COVID-19! My dad is a warrior at 89 years old, but he had excellent healthcare in this hospital, and they were great about keeping his family informed because we were unable to visit him. Jen in the intensive care unit is an amazing nurse! All employees that cared for my dad deserves special thanks from my family! God bless you all!
I used to brag about how wonderful this hospital was. Ever since the Amita merge, I tell people to possibly look elsewhere. Just tonight we had to bring our 4 yr old to the ER. She has had croup and woke up around 11:30pm with a horrible rash from her feet to her waist. We called her DR and they told us that they would feel safer to get the rash checked out right away. Ok, no problem, we got to the ER by 12:10am (The waiting room itself was empty, people came and went very quickly), we didn’t see a nurse or Doctor until 2:30am! We showed the Doctor where the rash was, of course it cleared up for the most part by now, he prescribed a steroid for the croup and had mentioned that “the steroid should help with whatever caused the rash as well, since I didn’t see the rash I can’t fully tell you what may have caused it.” Well maybe if my 4 yr old was seen in a timely manner, the Doctor would have been able to do a better examination! Staff wise most were friendly. There was a woman at the check in who you could tell hated she was working. Other than that the staff was friendly just not aware of time sensitive situations.
4 weeks ago I had a hip replacement at SAMC and cannot give enough praise for each person that cared for me. I have been in healthcare as a nurse for 25 years and can tell you, unfortunately, that there were some hospitals where I worked that I would not have had the confidence to have surgery. I currently work at St. Alexius in the Emergency Room, and I have seen the excellent care with compassion given to patients and their families first hand. This is the reason why I chose to put my life in the hands of St, Alexius for my elective hip replacement. The new Joint Replacement floor is great, everything on the same floor which makes it good for patients and their families. After reading some negative comments here I felt the need to post my positive experience and just how grateful I am to work at St. Alexius as well as choosing it for my medical care.
I came in with the symptoms of diabetes, they sent me to fast track, the nurse and nurse practitioner were SO disrespectful to me, my mom recently lost her job and insurance; being a 21 year old and a single mother of a two year old I had no options. The nurse looked me in my face and said You shouldnt be here, And you dont have diabetes and I guess we can give you a blood test was her exact words. As the lower positioned nurse drew my blood, she put the small cluster of gauze over the needle that was still in my hand and pressed down, waited a few seconds then pulled the needle out (Ive always had the needle pulled out first)After my blood test reading was normal, they didnt ask me any other questions or try to help me find out why Im dizzy / tired 24/7 they truly didnt care about me and I hope Mrs. Natalie Kmetuk finds herself a new job!
The 3 stars I am giving are for the Surgical staff, and to a few select nurses. I had Bariatric surgery here in October 2016 and had a wonderful experience all around. For me the only hiccup was on the day I was discharged when we had one particularly stupid nurse who insisted on having my Primary Care doctors father (yes, her father, not the doctor herself) sign off on my release. In any case I went home happy and recovered well.Right now as I type this Im in a hospital room with my husband, who had his Bariatric surgery 2 days ago. It is currently snowing heavily, so I planned on spending the whole weekend with my husband without driving home in between. Again, the surgical staff was amazing. As for the rest, I dont know how things could have possibly gotten so bad in less than 2 months. First of all, being a Bariatric patient I am on a restricted diet, and the St. Alexius cafeteria has nothing for me to eat other than hard boiled eggs. Every time I have had something other than that, I have vomited. For some reason a hospital cafeteria has a gigantic pizza display and a wide selection of deep fried foods.I am also on restriction to not lift more than 30 lbs. This became a huge problem since room assignments are not given until the patient is out of recovery. We were told to leave our bags in the car until then. This meant that after sitting in the waiting room for 6 hours, when I got his room assignment I had to hike out to the parking garage, strap all 40 lbs of luggage to me, and walk through the hospital to his room. No one is available to help you. I survived, but how do others handle this? When I arrived at my husbands room, we discovered there was no bed in the room. They kept him on a gurney out in the hallway for 20 minutes until they could track a bed down. Our night nurse was one that I had during my stay, and she was great. Our day nurse, however, has been condescending and difficult to deal with. There are also the patient care techs, who this time around have been very poor. One of them refuses to get up from his computer. Another burst into the room while I was in the bathroom vomiting from the wonderful cafeteria food. I was still standing over the toilet and he poked his head in and said Do you know how many ounces he drank? I need to record it. Seriously? Finally there is the cleanliness of the room we are in. The bathroom of this room reeks of urine. We keep requesting that housekeeping come in to clean, and each time they just take the trash and mop the floor, but the smell is still there. Its so bad that we cant even go near the restroom. I had to put a toothbrush and some wet wipes in my purse and find a restroom on the first floor to clean myself up. Its disgusting!Lastly is patient care. My husband has pushed the Call button a couple times and not gotten a response until I got up, opened the door and made eye contact with someone. They are also not progressing with his plan, as hes still hooked up to a pain medicine pump he had not used for hours. They were supposed to transition him to oral medication hours ago. I really hope something here improves, because I literally feel like Im in a third world country.
After spending 3 days in Good Shepard hospital for my epilepsy I got sent home feeling worse then when I went in . Now I know I should’ve just gone to my Doctors hospital but it was where I was. Well very next day another 4 Seizures so my Doctor tells me to go to St Alexius and I am glad I did ! It took them only 24 hours to fix what good Shepard messed up they listened to me they believed me ( yeah that’s a thing with epilepsy smh) and worked with me and my doctor and got me back to work .
In 2010 Early morning I was sent to this hospital unconscious from pneumonia and medications.By 6:00 PM I felt good enough to go home and take care of my service dog.I was never admitted to the hospital so the doctor signed a Refused Treatment form. The E.R. nurse called a cab for me and gave me a taxi voucher, when I say the Taxi I left the hospital.I am disabled and walk with a cane. The sidewalks were icy so I walked slowly. As I turned the corner 2 men jumped out and began screaming at me to; Get on the ground and comply or you will be MACED!I asked if they were the police and they said they were, however when I asked about their missing firearm they then said they were Hospital security.I showed them the paperwork that released me from the hospital.(These guards have no arrest or detaining authority, ESPACIALLY a person that was not a patient.)They just continued to yell at then both pointed MACE at my face. I just continued to walk towards cab.I was tackled from behind by both guards and slammed on the icy curb. I suffered cuts and bruises all over my body.I was then handcuffed and shoved in a wheelchair and brought back to the hospital.I was still very sick now I am injured, I showed injuries to Charge Nurse but was refused treatment. My wife arrived with her Power of Attorney regarding myself. I left ASAP!My attorney tried to subpoena the tapes from the security cameras but security had erased all pertinent tapes!I moved from the area and have not laid eyes on that place. It is not a hospital but a house of horrors with staff that is not only rude but physically dangerous.I would advise ALL to STAY AWAY FROM THERE! As your health and physical well being is at stake!
Ive recently had my son here at st alexius at Hoffman. And had a wounderful stay here. My wife was induce, the nurses and staff Were helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly. They took time to explain everything. And didnt make me feel like im being rushed in and out. Also once moved to our room after delivery. Nurses and staff werent that much of bother. They actually let my wife rest and son. Unlike my past experience at different hospital where they made loud noises and didnt let us rest at all. And with great care of my son and wife. Great food as well. Great staff on all 3 shifts. Thank you all.
After having immediate medical issues, my grandmother was brought here as it was closest. She has been in solid care from the doctors, which is the only reason there is 2 stars on this rating. After not being brought meals, meds being put on her table and left, and nurses refusing to help assist her when needed. It’s absolutely downright sickening to hear and see. If you have any other options, I’d highly recommend looking into them. To top it off, the nurse call button in her room is not even connected. It took 3 adults searching the hall and 20 minutes to bring attention to her room. Out of hand and completely terrible.
I came in for tx into the emergency room around 10am by 11:30 am I was seen. They made me wait for the doctor for a good two hours or so. But they eventually got me looked at. The nurse attending to me was the nicest and patient nurse I have had looking after me. Her name was Laura (RN). She tried to calm me. She told me what she was going to do and why. Making sure I knew what was going to happen next. The only thing I did not like was how long it took the PA to get there to see me.I wish I was not in so much pain that I forgot to ask some important questions. But all in all it was not bad. I liked the PA: Reggie and the RN: Laura. They were nice and friendly. Something I appreciate when I am a patient in the hospital.
Some of the nurses in the labor and delivery have a terrible attitude towards expecting mothers in pain. I gave birth to my son 6 years ago here before they had the new addition and let me tell you their nicu was terrible. They circumcised my son with out my permission. I am currently 34 weeks pregnant and thks is where my doctor delivers besides another one which is too far for me. Hopefully in a vouple weeks when i deliver they are better this time around but so far terrible service in the L&D ER..
Was placed in a room during a pediatric surgeon apt, to find vomit from someone in one of the drawers since my son likes to open and touch everything. Absolutely disgusting. Let alone during coronavirus. The surgeon himself wasnt that pleasant for lack of knowledge and care, his assistant or nurse seemed to be more of a doctor then himself. Do not reccomend this hospital or atleast the pediatric surgeon office here.
Took my son to the E.R., waited about 3.4 hours, less than a week later I had to take him to the ER again with other complications. Thinking that the first time might have been just a busy night I decided to bring him here again, but I was very wrong. He waited 4. 5 hours with pain from a severe strep throat infection. Terrible treatment, terrible hospital. I rather drive further away and get better service.
Why are there flies flying around in the maternity recovery room. A big nasty black flie was hovering over my newborn baby and I tried swatting it down. The only thing that came down was massive amounts of dust. Then I began to notice there were loads of dead flies in the can lights. Not just one or two, but about 15. All different size flies. Disgusting! However, we have had a great experience with the nursing staff so far. They just need to clean the rooms, that means from top to bottom. I bet the health department would have a field day here.
The emergency room is the worst I have ever encountered . The wait time is always long . The majority of emergency physicians and nursing staff are unprofessional. Nurses and nursing assistants are rude at times their behavior towards patients borders on being abusive . The following departments x-ray , respiratory , and lab staff are polite and behave in a professional manner. The emergency room nursing staff should work on improving their communication and people skills .
If the rating system allowed for giving less then a 1 star review this place would receive it. The total bill I received from this hospital for the less then 20 hours I was under their care exceeds by almost $5000 the bill I received from Rush Presbyterian Hospital (Top Ten Hospital in the Country) for the two nights and two days I spent in Rushs Neurological Intensive Care ward. They use a billing system that seems more like a mob owned establishment where everyone is an independent contractor so they bill you separately for the same services. I recommend avoiding this place unless you have no option except dying because you will need to mortgage your house to pay for limited care. Going to this place is just begging to be hit with thousands of dollars in bills without the successful treatment to go with it.
I have been to this hospital more times than I can count. So that is the reason for 2 stars (accumulation of all my visits here). My most recent visit was 1/1/17. I had abdominal pain, vomiting, migrane. I went to 2 Urgent Care centers for 1 to be closed and the other not accepting my insurance. Instead of driving around in pain I went to ER. Before doing that I went online to wait at home. This gives you the option to basically skip sitting in the ER for hours (which is unavoidable at this hospital) and to select an appointment time to arrive at the ER. Great concept, never works. I selected a time of 5p. It was 3:45. I headed over to ER anyway hoping I could get in before then.Check is usually smooth. Show ID, tell receptionist your issue, get vitals started and then sit and wait. 2 bathrooms in lobby, mostly smelling like urine (because these are the bathrooms you are directed to use when giving urine sample during vitals). Vending machine, water fountain, free coffee and a kids area.I arrived at 4. Around 4:50 I saw the receptionist receive my wait at home notification because he looked at the paper and then at me to confirm my name. I then saw my chart go from standard green clipboard to a red one. I got excited. Thinking now I wasnt going to have to wait. Wrong. Still had to wait another hour. Total of 2 hour wait. Just when your name is called you get excited because now you think you will finally get relief and get to the bottom of whatever bought you in.(FYI I have waited as long as 4 hours in this ER in the past). Wrong again.Once you make it back after sitting in a lobby in pain with many other people also in pain, you are lucky if you get a room with a door. Most just are separated by curtains. Once you get in, you change in a gown and then are forgotten about for another 40 to 45 mins. In my case I had a very high strug doctor who spit all over me while talking and talked really fast too. He refused to move my hair when he was checking my back as if I had lice or something (he asked me to move my hair). The nurses are ok. My nurse Nina in this visit was awsome. Funny and made the visit pleasant. Any requests takes a long time, water, pain meds, blanket. If you have someone with you, you are better off sending them to go get what you need.If test are ordered, thats another couple hours added to your stay. I waited an hour to get a CT. Another for results. Once the results come back, the slow process is now suddenly quick and now the goal is to get you out asap, so the next paitent can come in. If anything is found, they go over results, answer questions, write prescriptions if any and youre discharged. I have been discharged previously 30 minutes after giving a narcotic drug via IV and I had to take a cab home half sedated (smart move Alexian). This was a previous visit not pertaining to this review. While I was given a narcotic during this visit, it did not make me drowsy and I had a designated driver with me. My nurse Nina was swapped with another nurse towards the end of my visit, who seemed to know nothing about my visit and had to go back to the doctor with every question I had.Ultimately, on a serious note you have to be on the verge of death or transported via ambulance to be seen right away. And even that is not guaranteed as I saw and elderly man come in through ambulance and they sat the poor man on a wheelchair in the lobby to sit and wait like the rest of us. The ER is understaffed, so you will see a doctor maybe twice and he or she is onto the next. Not many rooms in ER either. I wouldnt suggest this hospital if you are in severe pain. Your best bet is the newly improved Sherman Hospital on Randall in Elgin or any another hospital for that matter. The drive will be longer but you will cut your ER wait by several hours. I came here and didnt wait more than 20 minutes and was seen. This hospital is busy at any hour of the day and you are seen due to severity of your condition.
I have had work done in the radiology department and been told my results would be sent to my doctor within 2 days. After not hearing from my doctor after a week I called the radiology dept. and was told that they sent them but if the line was busy then they would not have gone through.Dont you think they might try again later? No, they just did nothing.
Worst and most racist hospital ever. My grandma had a stroke they misdiagnosed her. Then the receptionist was rude and wouldnt let my family go visit her in the emergency room. She was racist and was saying racist comments, not what you want to deal with when a loved one is sick. If I could I would give this hospital 0 stars. Not patient or family safe. Patient centered care my ass.
I have never experienced a medical corporation like this and Ive been working in the medical field for over 30 years. Being a physician, I would NEVER say a negative thing about a fellow colleague or a facility but....... MY GOD!!!!! As a patient, I was not impressed. I initially went to your walk in and I was told, we dont do follow-up care and you need a follow up. SERIOUSLY!!!!!! I went to the ER with the same name ( I just moved here, I was giving them the benefit of the doubt) and that was worse than the walk in. One of the nurses actually said to me, You moved here with your issue and didnt have a Dr?. I think my expression said it all, she immediately closed her mouth. Finally, the Dr came in......I explained, I had a pounding headache and Im completely exhausted..... I need a refill on a medication also. The 1st thing he said to me, What type of insurance do you have....it wont cover this. I knew then, I was in serious trouble. I have excellent insurance and can you help me. He said he could write me a script and I said, well, Im not feeling well, could you do blood work and a UA?Interestingly enough, my blood work was thru the roof, Im assuming the ER Dr called a Specialist because before I knew it, I was going for an ultrasound. Medically speaking, I would have admitted a patient with those results but, what do I know. The last thing the Dr said to me in a condescending tone, Where do you work? . I was given a script and paperwork and sent home. WHERE DO I WORK? Oh, yeah, he gave me a referral! Here, Im walking out of this place wondering if my insides are going to SHUT DOWN and he wants to know where I work.St. Alexius, please dont respond, there is absolutely nothing you could say to me to recover from this travesty. I see patient satisfaction survey(s) mean absolutely nothing to you.
The E.R in this hospital is by far the worst in the WORLD as wait time goes. They seem to have spent so much $$ on expanding the hospital that they dont hire enough physicians to accommodate patients in the E.R. It seems like they always have 1 E.R physician on staff per 1000 patients that come in!! And not enough rooms to accommodate patients either!!! I mean seriously the hospital is located in such a densely populated area that your bound to get a huge influx of sick/injured people in the E.R!The city hospitals may be faster compared to this place!!! You gotta wait hours and hours and hours before they call your name only to wait hours and hours on end for a doctor to come see you in your room! And then and eternity to receive results from a blood test etc. !!! Wth?!?!Words cant describe how disappointed I feel. I make it a point that I let anyone I know that has a emergency never to step foot at this hospital because of the wait time. This is the only thing I think this place needs to work on..considering the staff here is great!
I came with a family member to labor and delivery. The receptionist was rude, the OR nurse was rude, then someone came in and kicked us out of the room while my family member was sent to the OR, then we were kicked out of the waiting room because there were too many of us, there were 4 of us. Its not that the staff didnt have to do these things but it was very rude the way the talk to people. I think they forgot thier customer service skills. I had my baby at Sherman and the staff was phenomenal. They made me, my family and visitors feel welcomed. Not at St. Alexius. I wouldnt recommended this place to anyone.
Not one nurse or doctor has asked me what medications I take before administering an IV!!!! Got my CT scan done and have now been waiting 20 minutes for my nurse to come hook my heart rate monitor and IV back up after being disconnected for my scan. Its so dangerous not asking for medications for allergies or drug interactions, and I havent even been to medical school! Get it together or you will open the door for lawsuits! Northwest community next time for sure!
This hospital is in terrible condition there has to be many violations of heath and building this is falling apart it’s past re-model they need to tare this down and build a new hospital with actual room size other new hospitals I’ve been at have large rooms 4x bigger than these and they have long benches for the other people in the room to sleep or to sit. The nurses and doctors are just pair some out standing others very poor (lady at front desk was on her IPhone trying to be sneaking hiding it while I waited in line to find the room I’m suppose to go to).
Receptionist near the lab was rude to me. She acted like I was stupid because I was a bit confused and didnt realize the orders for lab work were on the Rx form along with Rx for medication. I was tired and in pain... Understandably not fully coherent.Phlebotomist in the lab was excellent. She gets 5 stars.Prior to this cold experience, a family member was admitted to ER. Attending Physician in charge (DO Graduate from a 3rd rate medical school) never examined patient. He was standing behind a computer the whole time entering data or something. The treatment was provided by a rude Physicians Assistant of questionable competency and horrendous bedside manner. A nurse carelessly threw away perfectly usuable urine sample by mistake and said will need another from patient in a great deal of pain from kidney stones. What a joke. Scary knowing it wasnt a fictional hospital set for a show like ER.
Had to go there at 4AM, (SUNDAY !) in extreme pain and miserable. Dr Rena Johnson and Adam (Patient caretaker) and Laura (nurse) were absolutely fantastic, trying to cheer me while treating me. Luckily not too many other patients there so I was attended to pretty quickly. The procedure was rather painful, too, but their great spirit and the feeling of caringreduced the physical pain. Thanks!Just wish their uniforms were a bit less dreary... how about a fir tree green?
Doctors take forever to get to you in the ERIve waited for 45 min or more once I have gotten into an ER room. When you ask a nurse for pain pills, or other requests, it takes another 30 minutes to get back to you. Drs dont have a good bed side manner. Nurses are very good.
This emergency room is a joke my husband has thrown up violently about 10 times in 45 min since we been here. He is also in tons of pain 2 ppl in here with heart problems waiting still. Im in shock in the amount of ppl still waiting at least 20 there has to be a beyter system. Next time we will just call a ambulance in case of emergency because then we can be seen not wait now an hour in agnozing pain an be embarassed in front a whole waiting room full of people.
Horrible Mental Health unit. Daughter completely misdiagnosed by Amy. As my daughters own outside therapist as well as 2 OTHER assessments as well as High School Counsler all had stated either rehab for drug abuse or out patient services. She decides to lock us in for 11 hours and have her admitted to inpatient which would be fine if addressing drug issue but Amy decided that wasn’t important right now. Literally said the words ‘we don’t have to address the drug problem right now!’ My 12 year old daughter even knew, address the drug issue first! Complete idiot that doesn’t care!
I was not treated well at the MRI Department. I am a bit jealous that My Husband had an MRI at another place, with the same Tesla MRI and better MRI tech. They are not professional and I suspect its because they have a mean acting CEO. If your going to spend thousands for an MRI get a good1
Before we had our son sent to this facility, I noticed rather poor patient reviews on line. In as much as St. Alexis was closest to his home, he decided to go to the walk in emergency area. To make a very long story shorter, emergency had him stabilized and transferred to an inpatient floor. Found the staff of nurses to be exceptionally nice and helpful with one exception. We had to ask for a different nurse because she was extremely abrasive. Also found and EXCEPTIONAL social worker on the 6th floor by the name of CARIN. Wonderful person ! Extremely helpful in helping us sort through all of the treatments and issues our son was suffering from. Son was treated and released in about 4 days and transferred to SYMPHONY. Also a very nice re-hab facility. Unfortunatetly, complications occurred requiring him to be sent back to St. Alexis. This time he was placed on the 2nd floor. What we saw over the past 4 days was less than exceptional nursing; poor control of the floor operations; poor cleanliness standards; and allowed a family of 5 to stay with our sons neighboring patient all day and night, using the patient bathroom ; making a lot of noise so our son couldnt sleep; eating their patients food, and actually stole food off the nurses counter earmarked for someone. We were awe struck. I finally had to go to a nurse and ask that they be removed. Found that the patient had already been released but stayed to order up more food that they all ate. Then they were finally ushered out. I have never seen such poor regulatory conditions in any hospital. The treatment that our son is getting is very confusing. Multiple doctors changing medications that seem to conflict with each other. We cant wait to get our son out of there. The only saving grace of the entire situation is that St. Alexis was able to do more to get our sons multiple medical conditions under control than all the doctors have done in the past 8 months at NORTH SHORE UNIVERSITY HEALTHCARE. What in GODS name is happening to the medical industry? We pay more and get less.
Came here for back problems ended up bein switch to labor n delivery. Refused to give me an ultrasound and check on my back eager to force me to deliver 2 weeks from my due date. Instead of doing their own research they went off another facility i hadnt been to n months once in labor and delivery i was given a dirty room from the floors, table, and bed pillows. I requested it to be clean no one came then turned me down for a new room request to see a dr for 3hr no one return. This is by far the worse service i have ever delt with.
I hate to break it to you, its a crap hospital. When I went to visit my grandpa, the room reeked. There was pee on the table(in a jar that was open). He was sleeping on a chair. My family member was asked Do you speak English? That was downright rude. She is an immigrant but speaks and understands English. When we called when we couldnt go to the hospital, and they knew nothing. My grandfather is diabetic so we asked about his blood sugar, they couldnt even tell us about that. Then he came down with MRSA after a surgery. If you ask me, I feel bad for anyone who has to go to this hospital.
DO NOT HAVE YOUR BABY AT THIS HOSPITAL!!! I gave birth to twin boys via c-section and I was adamant about breastfeeding ONLY. I told all the nurses to NOT feed my babies formula, and in addition, there were little signs on my babies cribs that said NO FORMULA. I wanted my babies to stay in my room with me so I could be close to them when I needed to nurse them. The nurses told me it would be safer for the babies to be in the nursery because I could not get out of bed yet after my surgery. They promised to bring me my babies for every feeding. That was total BULLSH#&! During the 1st night, I woke up and noticed I had been sleeping for 6 hours!! I immediately called a nurse because I was so worried that my babies were hungry. The nurse brought me 1 baby and I noticed he had a taupe - colored stain around the neck area of his white pajama shirt. I asked what it was, and she replied, probably a formula stain. WHAT?!?!?!? I was so pissed. The nurses were feeding my babies formula after they were told NOT to!!!!!! No wonder I had problems breastfeeding! The next day I asked 3 times for someone to help me or show me how to get my babies to properly latch and nurse. They finally told me the lactation specialist was busy and would come later. Well she came 24 frickin hours later. She spent a whole 10 minutes with me and left. It was a joke. One nurse told me I would just have to accept the fact that I couldnt nurse my babies. I was devastated. My milk dried up a few weeks later. WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. Then they gave me discharge papers even though my babies needed to stay a few more days for jaundice issues. I told them I wasnt comfortable going home because I had a hard time sitting up and getting out of bed after my surgery. I pleaded with them for 1 more day. They told me I would be fine. Thank God my OB/GYN checked in on me that day because he extended my hospital stay for 1 more night. I never got a 2nd chance of giving birth, because twins are enough for this mama. But to this day I feel devastated that I was never able to breastfeed and that I had zero support. St. Alexius Suk$!!!
Terrible experience... Had to bring my wife here and she was diagnosed with Ectopic Pregnancy.. was there for 3 days and 7 days later after being dischares from the hospital my wife is having severe stomach pain. We ended up going back again to the same ER hospital and this time my wife fainted infront of the nurses and still havent done anything that would ease my wife pain or to make her feel a little better... during the time of our stay at the hospital the service or nurses were ruse and often very clueless of what is really going on. Doctors are no where to be found when needed. ER nurses are sarcastically rude. As a Nurse their main priority is the patients well being. But no nurses are very laid back IN the ER. I highly suggest and hope that this hospital gets evaluated for their lack of information and service.
Since St. Alexis throws out a standard answer with no opportunity to respond for reviews, I am using my friends acct.I will say it again. I told the MRI repeatedly they were rude and mis handling things. They already said, this happens all the time. Call whoever you want. I will a professional offsite MRI DEPT. So far you lost 3 customers.
Worst phone experience with the ER people. I am a pharmacist and there was information missing on the prescription which SHOULD HAVE BEEN THERE. Talked to 3 people and another was consulted/ NO one would help me, or at least they stated they werent allowed to give out the information. I needed and NPI number which should be on the prescription as well as in the national registry. The physician had not updated their info so it wasnt there. For Petes sake. Come ON people. NO one could even tell me if the MD had moved from the east coast so that I could make an educated guess. They dont even know each other that well. Kind of sad. Ugh. I hope they treat their patients better then they treated me on the phone.
Been waiting to bring my husband in for Covid19 test and as of 2:47pm and many calls to different numbers trying to get this test done and of course with no luck. Our doctor sent the request yesterday morning so I can truthfully say we havent heard anything for 24 hours.
Our family spent the last three days here saying good bye to our mom. They were personable, informative, genuine, and tolerant. Everyone on every level here was amazing. They went out of their way to keep her comfortable and us educated. When the time came to finally say goodbye the staff did everything right. Thank you all of you. You made a terrible day tolerable.
Stacey J , a phlebotomist came in to draw blood for my 76 yr mother , didnt introduce herself, didnt tell her she is going to feel a poke, chided her for not relaxing well enough and then told my mother who had not spoken a word to this Stacey J and is lying in bed with a NG tube down her nose, that she was terrible and will need to be stuck again because of how terrible my mother was. St Alexius Medical Center this is just one of many similar experiences but by far the worst. Another patients toiletries and admission papers were lying in the side table drawers in our room- just a few of the reasons we never leave our family alone at your hospital, unfortunately you are the closest one.And to update the EVS lady who comes to clean the room, didnt clean the bathroom in the morning, just came in to my Moms room, cleaned the door, the tech was taking the blood sugar so a part of the floor was dirty, first waited at the door for 15 seconds then made a face and took the mop into the bathroom, cleaned the bathroom floor and brought the mop back to clean the patient room and walked out to the next room, the commode and sink are still dirty- Hopefully someone from HR at St Alexius is reading this before the Health Dept and JACHO. How many things do we complaint about, does the staff at St Alexius mop their bedroom floors with the bathroom mops?!?!?!
HORRIBLE!!! Not only is the place hard to find. Most of the staff is friendly but, it is to make up for the terrible incompetence. I dare you to try and deal with them over the smallest of issues over the phone or in person for that matter, youll go nuts. From the moment you walk in the door the first person you need to talk to is such a Nasty attitude woman who will tick you off with the first few words out of her mouth. This was my second time taking my children there and I was dreading the visit. First visit, the doctor spent a whole 2mins and only asked the standard questions before setting up a follow up. Next visit, I was 25mins late driving two children to this place. I know thats my bad and fully understood and expected to be sent home because of it. However, they said the doctor would still see us anyway. Over 30mins left in the small exam room with two young children and yes, my daughter falls and smashes her front teeth. Do you have any idea what it is like to be surrounded by 7 nurses and a (so called expert) doctor holding your bleeding/screaming 4yrold and nobody lifts a finger. I bundled up the little ones and got out of that hell hole. Please do yourselves a favor and find another doctor office. Youll wasting your time and money.
Is there someone I can talk to about healthy options to drink?I was at the hospital just now and my options to drink wereWaterFlavored waterSugar waterCoffeeTeaApple juice with vitamin C which is an acidSoda popYou have people at the hospital with sensitive stomachs and ulcers but all they can have is water because your nutrition expert is not doing their jobIn addition to that, when I asked at the cafeteria, two people acted like they couldnt speak English and two of the four young people having a conversation at the reception desk acted acted like they couldnt speak English until I askedThe four young people couldnt help me find someone to ask why they dont have anything except water and sugar water to drink other than coffee or tea or sofa pop and just laughed at meIll bring my own juice in from now onThis also explains why the dietician never returned my phone calls
I traveled from Kansas City to take our 95 year old Grandma that lives here too see Dr. Mark Rosanova. After waiting for 2 hours we were told if we wanted a place that sees patients on time to make an appointment at lens crafters. I am more than disappointed with the lack of respect for elders and how unprofessional he was. Do yourself a favor and ask for someone who has a little more passion about what they do for a living.
I had to call the hospital to get info on my MIL. I am the only physician in the family. A lot depends on my input to the rest of the family. I called and left several messages including my cell phone. The RN would not talk to me and I could not get any info. I gave them the pass code and still couldnt get any info.Once before when my FIL was in the hospital they misdiagnosed him. He was in delirium 2/2 sepsis and fluid overload and they blew it off saying he had dementia.Since I do not work at this hospital I couldnt get the nurses to respond. I had to raise my voice so they would notice. He coded right there in front of them. He needed intubation and emergent dialysis as he is a known case of of renal failure!!Find a better place!!
Only come here if you are dying and have no choice. Then expect an ER services bill, an ER doctor bill, radiology bill, then a bill from a company that analyzes the radiology services. Maybe more depending on your level of need. Seriously, the place is a joke, they attempt to deceive the public and appear to be a religious place, but they find many ways to bill you into debt that makes you question their practices as the Bible warns against oppressing the poor. And you cant simply ask how much something will be. No. You go in and walk out not knowing what tsunami is heading toward your mailbox full of bills. Oh and this is after insurance.
To whom this may concern,I delivered my daughter on August 20th, 2017. As of right now I will never return to this hospital. I called in the beginning of December of 2017 to give the billing department my fathers insurance that I was under (I didnt realize I still was covered under his insurance)... It took them until FEBRUARY THE 13TH of 2018 to submit my charges at the hospital to my other INSURANCE. I called SEVERAL times (which they can see in the notes that have been left on my account) and they said they kept sending it to the billing department. Every time I spoke with someone they would feed me a new line of BS. Now, I called again today to check on my account and whats going on with it and apparently they billed out both of my insurances as PRIMARY and they both paid as PRIMARY. Everything is all SCREWED up and Im extremely frustrated with ALL of this.... and they can NEVER actually give you a true 100% explanation of the situation. We are just the call center for the billing department. We are talking about MONEY here, that is just getting jacked around with. I still have to call the call center once a week to keep checking on my account. Before you know it will be damn near a YEAR before things get resolved. I dont see how it is so hard to get things right. 1. WHAT DID BOTH INSURANCES PICK UP. & 2. WHAT IS MY COPAY GOING TO BE AND from my understanding the hospital now has been over paid by my insurance (Let me add we already started making payments before the other insurance was added) and I still dont know my new copay with my primary and secondary insurance because both insurances PAID AS PRIMARY..... I hope this is resolved very soon. As much as I loved the new maternity area and the NURSES; I will still never go back because the amount of time to figure this out is absolutely ridiculous.... With as many times I have called, I should have been forwarded to someone in the actual billing department. At the end of the day I just want to know whats going on with my account, this was not like some sinus cold. I delivered a baby and the expenses for everything were prolly over 40,000. This is not something you screw up. I JUST WANT TO BE INFORMED & UNDERSTAND whats going on. -Anyone looking into going to this hospital make sure you stay on track with your account!
Had disc replacement surgery their. My doctors and nurses were amazing and now I am able to walk around with only the occasional otc pain reliever when the weather gets real crazy. Im back to being me and not feeling any pain. Only complaint I have is the distance from my home, outside of that the place was perfect.
I was seen at a urgent care center, the Dr told me I needed to go to er immediately, she called saint alexius hosp, to tell them I was on my way and was in need of a CT scan and blood work up, I understand er wait times, I knew it would be awile, but I thought since a Dr called ahead it might be quicker..lol huge waste of money and time, after sitting in ER for several hours in a very filthy waiting area, with only 2 toilets, I was told to give urine sample, 1 restroom as u walk in the floor covered in urine, toilet, stool all over seat, I turn around thinking I will use the other restroom, walk in the smell alone could kill yeah, but the sink full of vomit, no wonder why everyone else is just peeing on the floor next door. Oh wait it gets better, now I get to see DR, who walks in asks a couple questions cuts me off every time I try to talk, writes me out not 1 script for antibiotics but 3, and tells me I should see a DR in 1 day no more than 2 days. OK then. Im pretty sure however little care I got it was better than the large sized naked lady with stool all over her in the room a couple over from us, getting cleaned up by the nurse, no curtain pulled nothing, I was disgusted my husband, child and everyone else seen this poor lady at one of her worst moments. Shame on the staff who have no respect for privacy, and shame on the other staff who walked by a dozen times, never to pull the curtain. I never did get that CT scan, as I sit here in pain writing this knowing I need one and a DR. I got the complete blow off at st. Alexius, but Im grateful I got the hell out of there. I would not bring my dog to this ER.
We had to go in Emergency for my 5 months old baby, they are good but doctor didnt do anything and give prescription at 1am. Requested them to give something now so at list baby can sleep overnight...they kept saying we dont have anything. U can give medicine to her tomorrow.. no satisfied description by doctor..
Havent liked this hospital in over 10 years and still dont. I gave birth to my first child and was disgusted by the rude nurses who try to force you to take medicine even when you request not to. And the food is beyond disgusting 10 years ago and now. Just had a 6 hour test and blood work done for my daughter and not only did no one know anything but took over 20 min of walking around to find the right area but had to come back next day and once again no one knew what was going on after i was told that all i had to do was go straight to labs and nope. They are so unorganized and need better training all overn
Dr. Rittmann creates an amazing feeling of security while speaking one on one which is very comforting and allows for a sense of open communication in an understanding and genuine manner. Also the past few visits there has been a very energetic and personable student named Ally who, for me at least, truly wanted to do anything she could to help with my situation. The pure display of the love for her job shows and made me comfortable while in a vulnerable state. Dr. Rittmann and Ally honesty helped me find ways to overcome my severe depression and anxiety. I would recommend them to everyone. They take pride in helping their patients and it shows tremendously.
I went in because of a pain that wouldnt go away but they found something else wrong. They told me it had nothing to do with the symptoms I was having but they would run more tests the following morning on both. Dr Jankowski told me, no matter what they tell me at first, there will be an opening for me. They gave me hydrocodone and sent me on my way. I called the number for Dr Kagzi (the dr they recommended) the next morning. They were closed until 9 am. I called again at 9 and told them I have a paper with call first thing after the office opens to schedule an appointment, be sure to mention that you doctor in the ER called Dr. Kagzi to make sure you could get in to be seen highlighted on it.They told me May 23 is the soonest they could get me in to see Dr. Hasan. I told them I was supposed to see Dr Kagzi. They gave me the number for the hospital that she is at. I called and the guy who answered said they arent open for calls until 10:15. So I called back at 10:15 and the lady transferred me to another person who said I had to call the same number I had just dialed. She couldnt transfer me back. I called again and had them page Dr Kagzi. They said to call back if I dont receive a call within 15-20 minutes.I didnt receive one, so I called back. The lady seemed annoyed and made it a point to tell me the hospital patients are more important than call ins. We hung up and about 3 minutes later Dr. Kagzi called and told me to call Dr Hasan (the people I called at 9). I told her the earliest they could get me in was a month from now. She then called them and found out May 10 was the earliest available. I asked her why last night, she told Dr Jankowski she could see me right away in the morning. She said because she didnt know how busy they would be. Then I asked what I was supposed to do about the pain limiting me from work. She had no idea about the pain and told me they wouldnt be looking into the pain, just the other issue that doesnt have symptoms. I told her my pain meds wont last until May 10 and its affecting my work. She seemed surprised I had them and basically told me Im not supposed to have them. Now its 11:30 and the whole reason I went to the ER isnt even being addressed. Its like they found something that will make them more money and went that route. Someone from Dr. Hasans office called to get my info over the phone. They couldnt even listen enough to get my info right so I told them I will be going elsewhere. Now its noon and I went to the ER for 5 hours and missed a day of work for no good reason. And I guarantee Im going to pay for this horrible service. Yall are supposed to be taking care of people, not just collecting their money and sending them on a wild goose chase. I could get in a car accident right in front of this hospital and dying but I would tell them to take me somewhere else. What a joke
If I could give 0 stars I definitely would. This ER is awful. It is dirty, there is trash everywhere, empty medical tubes, and gloves scattered throughout. They misspelled the name as they had the information via ID and insurance card. The nurses were cold and not informative. We had a family member brought by ambulance. This a pathetic excuse for a hospital, I’m very surprised they pass code inspections and are able to remain open for business.
Horrible ever since AMITA has taken over! Previously St Alexius was great, staff was happy and you could see your Dr. when they made their rounds. Since AMITA they are understaffed causing the quality of care to declined. Now you have to see a house doctor that relays your medical care to your primary doctor. You no longer have choices for your meals, you have to eat what they bring you. If you dont like it you are given one alternative meal, again whatever they bring you. How are you supposed to eat crusted chicken that is overcooked with a plastic fork and knife?
This has to be the most incompetent, if not immoral ER I have ever been to, and I have been to many over the years for many different reasons. They do not know what they are talking about with regards to their OWN policies and procedures. They did not help my son who came in with severe anxiety and panic attacks and who wanted to be admitted to the behavioral facility.I dont have the room or time to point out each and every lie we were told through out the day. After 5 completely embarrassing hours in the ER, all the while my son was WILLING ( had even packed his big BEFORE HE CAME) to go for help and we were lead to believe that we were being transferred, they were working on a COURT PETITION to have him involuntary admitted!Well, all trust and belief that they were going to help him flew out the window. Now we are in even worse shape as he is afraid to let the behavioral facility treat him, but they wont let him out, wont let us talk to him ( even with a signed waiver). Its a prison that really does not care one whit about the person needing help. They did not even have him accessed or petitioned by a licensed pych!! We are working to get him transferred, but without communication, its pretty difficult.Stay away from these places. I wish we had!! What a nightmare.
Horrible experience - Students/Children were put in charge of the receptionist desk. They did not know how to look up information or make phone calls. It took 2 hours to get in touch with an actual staff member to get information about our grandmother. Visitors not permitted to visit! Beware of poor care and lack of attention!
This is a new post, 12/23/2017. Since AMITA has taken over this ONCE outstanding hospital group it seems its become more worried about money, cost cutting of staff and amenities like a padded chair for patients to sit up in, one may as well go to the old cook county hospital. They are also pushing to have hospitalist take the place of your physicians and doctors while admitted. These folks could care less about the patients other than kicking them to the curb as soon as humanly possible. My heart goes out to patients, PCTs and nurses as well as my prayers for all those this inhuman corporation is doing to St. Alexius. They are just trying to make money off a once great name.Deacon Dave Brezinski------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I have been hospitalized there several times both as walk-in through the front doors three times through emergency with heart attacks and once by ambulance for acute pneumonia. I have been there when it has been quiet and at times where we were stacked up in the halls. The PCTs, Nurses and doctors were all and always tremendous, going the extra mile to make sure I got the care I needed.Perhaps if those folks who really think the nursing staff was so awful they should try Shermans ICU or better yet a regular doctor and stop using the emergency room to get a diagnosis on some unknown aliment via emergency services time after time.St. Alexius, THANKS SO VERY MUCH for saving my life on more than one occasion. You and the entire staff as well as those at Northwest Medical Group will always be in my prayers for all you do for your patients. And the food not bad either, thanks Mrs Murphy.Deacon Dave Brezinski
My family doctor ordered a 24 hr. Holter monitor to be installed by St. Alexis. Because his office is next to St. Alexis. So I had his staff phoned St. Alexis to see whether they could install it then so I did not have to come back next day. St. Alexis said they could. So I walked over. Its registration desk called cardiology dept. first time no answer. Fifteen minutes later, at my prompt, registration called 2nd time, ten minutes later, cardiology dept. called back and said they could not put me in that day. I had to set up for another appointment.I had the monitor installed on 11/13/2014, returned it on 11/14/2014. I have not got the result. So I went to the cardiology dept. on 11/25 and they do not know where the monitor was.12/1/14 I have not got the result yet. Other hospital takes no more than 7 days. My inquiry on 11/15 to the hospital gets no reply either.
Each time I come to this hospital to go to the emergency room no matter if its for myself, friends or my child the wait time is nearly two hours or longer. I Usually drive further to Sherman Hospital in Elgin IL if I need to go to the emergency room and never once have I waited close to an hour for my child. It seems that St. Alexian Brothers is understaffed and cant help more then two- three people at a time in the emergency room.I brought my 6 year old here for the first time (again I always drive further to Sherman) because he was throwing up, had diarrhea, couldnt keep a thing down and had a fever. Since this is closer to my house I did not want to risk any accidents and get him help as soon as possible.....We waited two hours and 9 mins.
Came in with two seizures tonight, best thing is they are the ones that prescribed me 6mg a day 2 and breakfest, 2 at lunch, and 2 at dinner. A pretty high dose. They blamed it on me drinking funny thing I have not been drinking at all today. Now I cant leave for at least 4 hours. Or till a ride home. They wont give Ativan to stop withdrawale.
I gave birth to my son at St. Alexius after I found out that I had cholestasis which can be detrimental to the baby. They induced me and he was born nearly 24 hours later. The nursing staff was great. My husband and I felt completely safe and that our baby was in good hands. They tended to us around the clock.
Medical staff was wonderful - the food was the worst i have ever had in a hospital cafeteria without exception. the staff that work in the cafeteria are always nasty. not sure who is overseeing this department but it needs a lot of work. Other hospital facilities need attention - coffee machine on floor - broken, microwave on floor - broken, water/ice machine always out of cups constantly.
Wish I could not rate a star at all.But I wanted to put this review of how boujee this place is along w/ the nurses negative attitudes. Cant even fake smile like my aunts do because theyre nurses as well. Ik how it goes. But the fact that we had to sit just so many hrs in there/(here because Im still sitting here for my boyfriend who had a seizure ) trying to kill sometime & make him laugh a little. They also didnt do a thing when we arrived and let my boyfriend seize because they didnt know what to do.

2022-03-10Very surprised by all the negative feedback. I get it. You never want to be here. Our son had a fever of 102.8 and our regular Dr advised we should take him in to the pediatric unit here. It was a very pleasant experience. Everyone that we worked with was very friendly and compassionate. We were assigned a room quickly and a very nice nurse brought my son a toy to keep him occupied. Follow ups and testing were prompt and my son is doing much better. Thank you!

2022-02-14My mom was recently seen there for the first time. She was always treated at the University of Iowa until we moved here. First experience turned out to be the worst. Coming from a hospital such as the University of Iowas and seeing how a certain nurse here treated my mom- such a disappointment. Lack of professionalism. And unfortunately, we had to see this nurse (Tech) again for an EKG. I finally had to tell her to stop talking because she was making my mom agitated with how rude she was being. I was proud of me for standing up since she said she had never been treated like that and by that she meant me telling her that she needed to be more professional and absolutely not rude to any of her patients especially if they are old and dont understand the English language. At the end I told her I observed behavior for a living and her demeanor completely changed. She is such a disgrace to the amazing medical staff that work so much to meet and provide the very best care for patients.PS- If I could give this a zero star I would.

2022-04-12Unless you are having a heart attack, it is worth driving the extra time it takes to get to Northwest Community or Good Shepherd.Care has gone down considerably since they switched from Saint Alexis to AMITA. The staff seem to hate their jobs now, which reflects on their treatment of their patients. I have been told twice now that I would be “refusing care” if I did not consent to unnecessary testing before receiving basic nausea medication. Even after I consented, I had to receive the medication before I was able to take the test because I kept throwing up in the MRI room and they were unable to do the test until I was able to stop. I made it clear that I was not paying for this unnecessary testing as the reason I was there was because I moved and was unable to get to my old doctor for a refill on my zofran - which was literally all that I needed. Unfortunately, the ridiculously long wait time and arguing back and forth about taking a test that I didn’t need required me to need more medication - because of the trauma they could blatantly see and continued to put my body through. They watched me puke in the waiting room for hours while showing no compassion and not offering the easily prescribed oral zofran to call my stomach while waiting for a doctor to verify that was all I needed.Basically, because of their mistreatment, I ended up needing more medications to calm my stomach. The threatening to kick me out if I did not agree to unnecessary testing, cost me almost $700 after insurance.I won’t even go into the time that I had a minor procedure done here and wound up with SEPSIS. They had to put me into a quarantined room for several days…In conclusion, just stay away if you value your health. These people only value $$$$ and want to scam you out of it.

2022-04-30Everyone is saying it got worse with Amita and I think its actually gotten better. Over a decade ago my wife was here twice and I once, and in all three cases we were misdiagnosed. I quit going. Wed head over to Elk Grove instead. Then, last fall, she had an emergency and the ambulance took her to St Alexius because its the closest. I went in dreading what I expected to happen and was shocked at how different the experience was. She got top quality care. She was admitted for observation overnight and all of the staff was very friendly, answered all of our questions, and treated us very well. She recently went in again for an infection on a wound, and ended up spending 10 days there and having 4 different procedures. Complicating this, she has early-onset Alzheimers and cant always understand or follow instructions. Every time the staff interacted with her they did so with the utmost patience and care. She needs assistance eating, which a lot of places will not do properly, but the couple of times I came in while she was being fed, they were being very gentle and going at her own pace. All in all the staff was exceptionally friendly, caring, and answered our questions cheerfully. I couldnt have asked for a better experience. I dont want to disparage the other reviewers, as there may well be problems we never saw or encountered. Our experience was just a complete world of difference.

2022-01-31There are a bunch of great nurses here and they do an excellent job!! But understandably, the hospital is short staffed right now especially the ICU. Since they are not allowing any visitors right now they only way to know what is going on with a loved one is to call the hospital and ask. Either nobody answers the phone at reception or if your lucky and they do nobody answers in the ICU. I shouldnt have to call 20+ times a day to be able to speak to someone, that is ridiculous especially because I cant even visit to see how my husband is doing. Before my husband was admitted to the hospital for Covid, the nurse and doctor in the emergency room kept telling me, well more like mocking me repeatedly its only a matter of time until you get Covid, ha ha - Im sure you already have it ha ha not sure what was so funny, but still dont have Covid by the way and my husband is still there. Instead of mocking people who arent even patients maybe they should put all that energy into taking care of their patients!!

2022-01-09There Wednesday morning for an Outpatient Cardiac procedure. Welcoming and Registration staff were polite and helpful. Medical staff listened to my pre-procedure inquiries and concerns and responded accordingly with no further issues on my part. Staff doing procedure and post procedure were very professional and concerned for my comfort. Thanks to everyone involved.

2022-07-05I am writing this review on my experience with the labor and delivery unit at St. Alexis in Hoffman Estates.I arrived for my scheduled induction on June 23rd at 2pm. My induction was scheduled through my OBGYN on that Monday before. When I arrived the shock on the intake woman’s face was undeniable. She looked over at another nurse and proceeded to say “No one called her”. As I was puzzled I said, excuse me? The response was that they could not take me anymore. That someone was supposed to call me earlier in the day to let me know that they didn’t have a bed/nurse to take care of me. I never knew which was the truth because first it was a bed and then it was staff. Later came to find out from my OBGYN’s office that someone from the unit was supposed to call me. They didn’t want my doctor to give me the information. My doctor was informed at 7:30am that that wouldn’t be able to take me but I was never informed until my 2pm arrival. They then proceeded to blame it on me telling me I was didn’t follow their protocol and call 1 hour before coming. I never received these instructions from them or my OBGYN that I was suppose to call prior to coming in. Never once did any of these woman apologize for their dropping the ball! I delivered two other babies at this hospital.I have 2 other children that I needed to have childcare for and the day of the induction was my deceased mother’s birthday. St. Alexis ruined that for me! Luckily good Sheppard was able to take me. Had I’d been induced at 2pm I would of had my baby before midnight since I didn’t arrive at good Sheppard to start my induction until 3:30pm. My baby was born at 1:14am on Friday June 24th.Here is the kicker! I was called on Friday while I was in labor at Good Sheppard for these so called instructions for my new induction date of Friday at 7:30am (which I never received the day before for my original scheduled induction). I didn’t answer because I was in labor. At 6:30am I was called on Friday to be told again by message that they couldn’t take me again for my “2nd scheduled induction”.What a lack of care for the individual. The hospital should be ashamed for the way they treated me. Making me feel as if it was my fault. Never once was there an apology out of either of the women’s mouth. St. Alexis might be the closest hospital to me but from now on I will travel just a bit farther to get the care that I deserve.

2022-05-13I strongly advise you to NOT come here no matter what the reason! Worst hospital I’ve ever know! I’ve had only unethical, miserable, and demeaning experiences at this hospital. The final straw was when my dad broke his tibia bone recently and was mistreated terribly. Terrible communication between staff and patients. If you ask for a pillow, expect it to be thrown on your broken leg. If you ask for your bed to be adjusted, expect to wait thirty minutes. If you receive your meal while in excruciating pain and can’t reach it, expect to wait thirty minutes to eat your food. If you take medicine, expect to not be given your medicine. If you are receiving an incision, expect to not be numbed. No empathy. No patience. This hospital staff is heartless and this place should be SHUT DOWN.

2022-04-21Was OK considering the ER has 70s drapes & 80s wallpaper. Treated well & fast in the beginning. I evidently shrunk 2 since my last hospital visit. I felt better & out fairly fast I guess for an ER visit. They did call to follow up which showed some future concern for my health.

2022-05-12We went to E.R. Yesterday , 5/11/22, at about 6:30p.m. My daughter is positive for covid and has a temp. Of 102.2, coughing, very weak from vomiting for 2 days. We waited for 2 hours hoping we get medical attention. We did not even know that she was seen by an N.P. because , the N.P. did not introduce herself at all. She just asked my daughter if she has other medical conditions. Is that how a hospital should examine their pt? We were not able to asked questions nor explain her situation because we did not even know who she is nor did she perform a physical assessment. The nurse who took her vitals was not wearing gloves. I told her that my daughter is positive for covid and she just told me;” I know”. She then without washing her hands touch another pt. The nurses never wore gloves nor wash their hands when handling one pt. To the next. This is a very inefficient and incompetent service. So we left without getting our daughter help. We will never come back to the E.R. Of this hospital. Public health should investigate this E.R. And close it down until they follow infection control.
